Check out this great series of poster art for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that was created by Phantom City Creative. The television series has gotten so much more interesting since Captain America: The Winter Solider came out. I can't wait to see what they have planned for the season finale, and how the story will carry on into the second season.

Clip from Disney's MALEFICENT - "Awkward Situation"
Here's a new clip from Disney's Maleficent, and it shows us just how amazing Angelina Jolie is going to be in this film. The clip is from the scene in which Maleficent invites herself to the christening of baby Aurora. It's interesting to see how much they used from the original 1959 Sleeping Beauty, particularly the dialogue in this scene. The great-looking movie is set to be released on May 30th!
John Goodman and Ken Watanabe Join TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION
John Goodman and Ken Watanabe have been cast in Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction. They will provide voices for two of the Autobot characters. Goodman will take on the role of Hound, and Watanabe will play a character named Drift. Both of those characters are pictured above.
Peter Cullen will also reprise his role as the voice of Optimus Prime, and Frank Welker provides the voice of Galvatron. Bay announced the casting on his blog, saying,
“I am pleased to welcome two gifted and versatile actors, John Goodman and Ken Watanabe, to the world of Transformers. And to reteam with Peter and Frank, who have brought Transformers characters alive from the beginning. I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the best voice talent in the business, and together we will introduce several exciting new robots to fans of the franchise around the world.”
As far as the rest of the voice cast goes, John DiMaggio will play Crosshairs, Mark Ryan is Lockdown, Robert Foxworth is back as Ratchet, and Reno Wilson returns as Brains. The movie is set to be released in theaters on June 27th!
NORTHMEN: A VIKING SAGA - International Teaser Trailer
You've got to check out this teaser trailer for an incredibly cool-looking film called Northmen: A Viking Saga. This trailer definitely got me pumped up to see this! I love the end of the trailer because it features one viking after another yelling at the top of their lungs! It may be a bit silly, but it's still kind of badass. I love the history of the vikings, so I'm very interested in this film. Here's a description of the story that the movie will tell:
A band of Vikings are stranded behind enemy lines on the coast of Alba as their longboat goes down in a dreadful storm. Their only chance of survival is to find a path to the Viking settlement, Danelag, traversing an unfamiliar and hostile land they have never known. The journey becomes a race for their lives when the King of Alba sends his most feared mercenaries after them. But when the Vikings meet a kind Christian Monk who preaches with his sword, the hunters become the hunted as the Vikings set deadly traps, mercilessly decimating their pursuers one by one, culminating in a final and deadly encounter.
I'm not sure when this movie will be released, but as soon as a date is announced I'll let you know!
Horror Campout Experience Complete with Monsters and Killers
Now you can live out your own horror movie fantasies with a camp experience built around scaring the shit out of you! It's called Great Horror Campout, it's based in Los Angeles, and it will cost you $231 to be a part of it. If you go on this campout you will be harassed by fake monsters and killers from 8pm to 8am, so it's a good bet that you wouldn't be getting much sleep. The monster and killers also have permission to touch you, bag you, kidnap you, and drag you around! They don't say whether or not you can fight back. This sounds like it could be a ton of fun, but also a disaster waiting to happen. Can you imagine if they actually started really killing people!? Here's some additional information on the event:
Camping (and your tent) is included, with just-added, specially marked tents for two people, and for two zones: the fair-game "blue zone" pictured below, and a "yellow zone" that's for people who don't want any interaction with creatures at all...
Instead of a park Downtown, this year they're doing it in the abandoned zoo up at Griffith Park -- also the site of their yearly Haunted Hayride. The location includes abandoned monkey cages, now-still animal pens, and a never-before-explored-by-the-public, super-dark house that the organizers describe as a "house of wax"
The abandoned Zoo at Griffith Park is a pretty creepy place as it is. I think it would be fun to actually try this out. I love this kind of stuff! Would you do it? Thanks to Thrillist for the heads up!
X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST - New Clip and TV Spot
There's a lot of really great buzz out there for X-Men: Days of Future Past. The movie not only looks amazing, but so far the press that have seen the it are gushing about how it's the best X-Men movie yet. Today we have a new clip from the film that shows Wolverine preparing to go back in time to gather the X-Men together. We also have a new international TV spot with a few bits of new footage. The rest of us will get to see the movie when it comes out on May 23rd!
ABC Picks up Marvel's AGENT CARTER and Renews AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.
ABC has announced that they've ordered a full season of Agent Carter, the series based on Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers' love interest in Captain America: The First Avenger. The network has also renewed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a second season. There are no surprises here folks. Of course ABC was going to pick these shows up. Everything Marvel is gold right now.
THR reports that the Hayley Atwell (Captain America) will reprise her role as Agent Carter. They also say that the show is set a year after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger, and the story follows Carter as she builds her career as a secret agent while Captain America is frozen in ice. Here's a more detailed summary.
"The story is set in 1946 and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life -- Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, along with the short Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter."
This sounds like it could be a very intriguing and fun series. The script was written by the Captain America team Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley. So we know the writing is going to be decent.
According to inside sources, this will be a "short-order series and likely used as a 'bridge show' to air during the second season hiatus of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, with both series ultimately being tied-in together."
I'll also remind you that the studio is currently prepping to shoot their four new series for Netflix… Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage, which will all lead to a Defenders movie. I'm excited for everything that Marvel is doing. I love the universe they are building, and I really hope that they can keep pumping out solid entertainment.
Totally Tubular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Art
Michelangelo, Raphael, Donatello, and Leonardo are all featured in this extremely cool set of Ninja Turtles fan art created by Coran "Kizer" Stone. I absolutely love his designs for these classic characters. I would definitely much rather see these Ninja Turtle designs in the upcoming movie than what they currently have.
New Photos from Ryan Gosling's Fantasy Thriller LOST RIVER
Ryan Gosling's upcoming film, Lost River, is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival later this month. In anticipation of that, a batch of new photos have been released online along with a statement about the film from Gosling, who directed the trippy fantasy thriller. The images feature some of the film's stars, including Eva Mendes, Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan, Ben Mendelsohn, Matt Smith, and more. Here's the synopsis to give you an idea of what the film is about.
Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, BILLY, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while BONES, her eighteen-year-old son, discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive.
I'm really excited about this movie. Gosling is a talented individual, and I think this could be a great movie. Thanks to The Film Stage for the heads up!
Supergirl Fan Film - GIRL OF STEEL
Here's a fun Supergirl fan film that was sent to us. It's called "Girl of Steel." The concept behind the film was to produce a short story that empowers female role models. The movie was directed by Vincent Tran, who says, "The Girl of Steel isn't just a superhero, but a freedom fighter inherited in all young women."
The story follows a rebellious teenage drifter who is given a choice to help save Earth from a threatening alien colonization.
They filmed another part of movie that fans will be able to watch only at select film festivals and Comic Cons this summer.
First Red-Band Trailer for SNOWPIERCER
"We control the engine, we control the world."
I know we've already seen a ton of trailers, clips, and featurettes for Joon-ho Bong's sci-fi thriller Snowpiercer over the years, but today we give you the first U.S. red-band trailer! It seems like we have been hyping up this movie forever, but the Weinstein Company is finally going to release it in theaters on June 27th. The movie has screened at several film festivals already, and people seem to really love it. I think it looks awesome, and I can't wait to be able to finally watch it for myself.
Snowpiercer is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.
The film has a great cast of actors that includes Chris Evans, Ed Harris, Jamie Bell, Alison Pill, John Hurt, Oscar winners Tilda Swinton, Octavia Spencer, Ewen Bremner, Kang-ho Song, and Luke Pasqualino.
Ridiculously Insane Trailer for WITCHING & BITCHING
This trailer for a movie called Witching & Bitching is bat-shit insane! This might be one of the greatest things you'll see all week. The movie was directed by Alex de la Iglesia, and the story follows two guys who decide to rob a bank dressed up as Jesus Christ and a toy army man. Things start to get crazy out of control when they cross paths with a coven of witches.
The movie is set to be released in theaters and on VOD June 13th. I'll definitely be watching this madness. Enjoy the trailer!

At GeekTyrant we post an indulgently huge amount of Disney Princess art, mashups, cosplay, videos, and more. We've been called out a few times by readers saying that Disney princesses aren't geeky. I want to make the case that they are.
Let's start by defining what "geeky" is. Usually it's something nostalgic from our youth, and it's something that was fairly popular among you and your friends. Also, despite what anyone else thinks about it, you think it's cool.
I believe Disney Princesses and Disney characters at large fit into these criteria. I think some readers are perhaps subconsciously excluding princesses from the geeky because they are female characters. Let's be honest, most popular geeky characters from our beloved comic books, movies, and TV shows are dudes.
It's true that there are are outlier examples of popular female characters, but there are still too few, and they don't get enough attention. Wonder Woman doesn't have a standalone movie, whats up with that?!
There is a movement to geekify things once only thought of as girly. At the far end and bravely breaking boundaries, is the Brony group. While I've never owned anything Disney Princess, I did grow up with them as the only popular media with female central characters.
Perhaps the balance we need will come off the creative side. In comic books there seems to be a shift toward more female writers and artists. But in movies and TV we've yet to see that. The only examples I can think of are Deborah Snyder, Gale Anne Hurd, and Jane Espenson. There are more, I'm sure, but I could name 4 times more men in equivalent positions.
I have a 2 year old son who loves Frozen's "Let it Go" equally as much as Spider-Man's web-swinging. Perhaps the hangups of our and previous generations' gender normification will one day be left in the past.
To those Disney Princess haters I say that the princesses are geeky and GeekTyrant will keep posting them. Especially one of the newest ones, Princess Leia.
Disney Princesses — Post ArchiveQuicksilver Shows off His Powers in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Clip
Here's a fun clip from X-Men: Days of Future Past that highlights Quicksilver's mutant powers. It includes some really cool new footage of the character showing off his abilities. It's actually really awesome to finally get a good look at what they've done with this character. They show quite a bit of footage of him breaking Magneto out of prison, which is one of the most buzzed about scenes from the press screening the other night. The movie is set to be released on May 23rd, and I hope you enjoy the footage below!
Popular Cartoon and Comic Book Characters Get X-Rayed
Have you ever wondered what the skeletal structures of popular cartoon and comic book characters look like? No? Me either, but apparently artist Chris Panda did.
These X-ray views have real dimension to them, these are not just simple overlays. For example: in the Batman Vs. Superman piece, look at Superman's forearm and how the radius and ulna interact.
Another example of how dimensionalized these skeletal structures are is Spider-Man's pelvic bone. You can tell exactly where his hips are pointed and thanks to the shading you get a sense of his mass.
Whenever I think of mermaids, subconsciously I think they have legs tucked into a fish body and fins, I know that's wrong but that just how my brain processes it. The Little Mermaid X-rayed piece makes her fish half more apparent and makes something I already know more consciously apparent and creepy.
Despite how creepy or weird they are, ultimately this art by Chris Panda is just so damn cool. He's got a few pieces for sale and he takes commissions. Shoutout to Geek X Girls who found this cool art.

Joker Confirmed for GOTHAM - Showrunner Discusses the Show's Visual Style and Villains
The upcoming Batman prequel Gotham looks like it's going to be an insanely good series. That first trailer that was released blew me away and got me incredibly excited to see it. In a recent interview with EW, Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller discussed the DC comics-based series, and he had some compelling things to say about the world they are creating.
"This is a world that's going to become that familiar world of Batman, but it's not there yet. It's an embryo. A lot of the work was reverse engineering the story to look at what these characters were like when younger. Penguin, for instance, is not a powerful gang leader, he's a gofer for a gangster. It's about giving the world room to grow, but at the same time giving the fun and pleasure and drama of that heightened world. One of the great things about the Batman world is [the characters] have no super powers. Nobody flies or leaps over buildings. You start with psychology and that's where we build from."
He goes on to talk about preparing to develop the series, and the comic books that he read to get into the mindset,
"I read everything I could and then — I didn't throw it away, but I started fresh. I would hate to pick a particular Batman iteration because I would be dismissing others. But for me, The Killing Joke was one of the great ones in the comic books. Obviously the [Frank] Miller version [The Dark Knight], as well.
When it comes to the visual style for the series, he seems confident in saying that he thinks it will be better than what was done in the previously released films. That's a bold statement, but it could be true.
"I would say in terms of what [director and executive producer Danny Cannon and director of photography David Stockton] are doing — visually — Gotham will surpass the Batman movies. The movies are a very rigorous, kind of Germanic take on that world. They're visually stunning, but not particularly visually pleasurable. I would say this is much more on the street level of Gotham. There's more people, it's a more colorful place, it's a more vivid place, it's more crowded. The inspiration for me and Danny was New York in the '70s, because we both remember that as a seminal moment, coming to the city for the first time."
He makes some great points, and I think they might actually be able to pull it off. Heller moves on to discuss the villains. Some of the villains that will be included in the show are Oswald Cobblepot, Selina Kyle, Edward Nigma, Poison Ivy, and more. I'm sure we'll see even more villains introduced including The Joker, which he confirms here,
"Obviously, the Penguin, Riddler, young Catwoman, Alfred. Possibly Harvey Dent. Poison Ivy. Um … and then there will be others, but I hate to — I’m so used to doing a police procedural, so I’m used to telling, 'Next week he’s going to go there.' With this, it’s very much storytelling. So I would be remiss to tell you who will show up when. I will say we’re not going to skimp on giving people the characters they want and expect from Gotham. But when and how they’re going to show up is half the fun. Penguin is one of those guys that, as soon as you see him, you go, 'Oh, that’s the Penguin.' It would be hard to disguise him as somebody else.
When asked about The Joker he said:
He's the crown jewel of the Batman villains. He will be brought in with great care and a lot of thought."
I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with the Joker. He's one of the greatest comic villains ever, and it will be cool to see what they do with his backstory. When asked if he was concerned about the story being limited because it’s a prequel he replied,
"No. Because there’s lots of other people in the world, and one of the conceits of the show is, where did they get all their ideas? There's precursors to that for the villains and the heroes. They got inspiration from other people, and it's about how they got to that point in the world. It's invigorating and expansive how many stories you can tell once you get away from the gravity of Batman."
When talking about the characters Harvey Bullock and Jim Gordon he says,
"Harvey Bullock, for the comic book fans, he’s an iconic early Batman character. I always liked him just because he encapsulates the moral ambivalence and corrupt-but-fun quality of Gotham. He’s very much a Gotham figure. Gordon is a complicated figure, but he’s very much a good guy. He’s an old-fashioned American hero. So it’s important to pair him with someone who has a darker and funnier side, and someone who personifies that ambivalence of Gotham. And we got Donal Logue playing the character. As soon as we got him, I was able to write the character with much more edge and comedy and wisdom because Donal has all those things in spades. And frankly, I love double acts — buddies, whether it’s Laurel & Hardy or Starsky & Hutch or Holmes & Watson."
It looks like they are going to make a great on-screen team. Heller confirms that the series will end with Bruce Wayne putting on the cowl and officially becoming Batman. He then says that it won't happen for "six or seven years down the line. Hopefully."
Make sure to read the full interview over on EW, there's a lot of other great stuff that you might be interested to know.
Nat Wolff Set to Star in Stephen King's THE STAND
For those of you who regularly read my posts, in the magical words of one Joe Esposito, You are the best around; no one is ever going to keep you down! Also, you know that I am a huge Stephen King fan. The man is a true wordsmith and should be praised from on high. However, the problem is that his writing induces such imagery that bringing his stories to the big screen has been a challenge for many film makers. Yet, they try.
There have been many names attached to direct the film adaptation of The Stand. Names like Affleck and Yates. The discussion ended when King himself picked Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars, Stuck in Love). In fact, King has such faith in Boone’s directing ability that he has also given him permission to adapt another King novel, Lisey’s Story.
THR had an opportunity to speak with Boone, and they found out that he is currently writing a part for his “lucky rabbit’s foot,” actor Nat Wolff. This would be the third time that Boone and Wolff have worked together. There is no word as to which role Wolff would play. It is kind of up in the air whether it will be an established character or one made for the movie.
Being a fan of the book, there is only really one role that I can see him filling, and that would be the role of the love-struck teen turned complete ass-hat, Harold Lauder. I am sure there are other roles that he could be considered for, but they seem to be much older than Wolff can play.
If you saw the original incarnation of The Stand, then you know this will not be an easy task for anyone to take on. When I first saw the mini-series I was entranced because I was young and had just finished the book for the first time. Now that I am older, I have tried many times to watch it in its entirety, and I just can’t do it. It has great actors like Gary Sinise and Rob Lowe who do a great job with what they are given, but the scale of the story is too large to fit in such a limited time frame.
I think that The Stand should have been a series, but no one asks me. So, since King is happy with what Boone is doing and Boone feels that Wolff is what the story needs, then who am I to argue?
Roberto Orci Frontrunner to Direct STAR TREK 3
Screenwriter Roberto Orci has been pushing really hard to replace J.J. Abrams as the director of Star Trek 3. A couple weeks ago we learned that he was in talks with Paramount Pictures to direct it, but now according to Deadline he has "emerged as the clear frontrunner."
If he wants to direct the film, and the studio has pushed him to the top of the list, then I guess Orci is going to be the guy who brings the third Star Trek film to the screen. This means he beat out the likes of G.I. Joe director Jon M. Chu and Attack the Block director Joe Cornish.
The report goes on to say that Paramount’s partner, Skydance Productions, has been fighting for Orci to direct, but Paramount needed convincing. I guess they managed to convince them! This would be the first film that Orci has directed, but he worked on the first two films, so he has a solid idea of the story, characters, and how everything works. I'll admit, I was rooting for Cornish to get the gig, but I think Orci is a good choice.
The first two Star Trek movies were pretty awesome, so I can't wait to see what they have in store for part 3!
FROZEN Trailer Recut as a Horror Film
Here's a great recut trailer that shows us what Disney's Frozen would look like as a horror movie. If you think about it, there were some pretty frightening moments throughout the movie, so this trailer worked out really well. It was created by YouTube user Bobby Burns. I hope you enjoy it!
Han Solo Considered a Co-Lead in STAR WARS: EPISODE VII
We already know that Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill are all officially back to reprise their roles as Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode VII. What we don't know is how big their roles will be. In the recent issue of Entertainment Weekly (via: Jedi News) we learn a little bit about that, and they confirm some previous rumors as well.
The report says that Hamill, Fisher, and Ford will all have "significant" roles, but make a point of saying that Han Solo is considered a co-lead in the film alongside three of the younger actors. So it seems that his role will be larger than Hamill's and Fisher's, which makes sense. After all, everyone loves Han Solo!
Then we have the following details and confirmations that EW provided "from sources with direct information about the project who spoke on condition of anonymity."
- Casting began in earnest in January.
- At press time, several roles have yet to be filled, including a major female lead.
- Michael Arndt's initial script has been significantly overhauled by [J.J.] Abrams and [Lawrence] Kasdan, which led to a delay in casting.
- Hamill, Fisher, and Ford had been secured to return for Episode VII before the Disney sale in 2012.
All of those things have been rumored, but this confirms it all. The coolest part about this, other than Solo having a big part in the movie, is that the three original stars were all set and ready to make this happen before Disney owned the franchise. The fact that we are going to see more Star Wars movies in the near future makes me so damn happy.
