While we all impatiently wait for EA Games' Star Wars: Battlefront to be released, here's a great video showing off a Star Wars mod for the video game for Arma 3 that was created by McRuppertle. First it features a Stormtrooper taking down an AT-AT Imperial Walker, and then it cuts to an amusing scene that features a Stormtrooper riding a mini version of an AT-AT. I think it's awesome that people have the talent to make these kinds of things. I have no idea how they do it, but I sure do enjoy the fruits of their labor. Here's a note from the creator:

"This is an old Mod project I made over a year ago and never finished. I wanted to share some impressions of the first ingame test. This Walker was never finished and was just a test! The walk Animations are very poor done with o2 but it does the job. I dont think i will ever finish so enjoy the video hope you guys like it."

Joss Whedon on How Marvel's AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Complicated the MCU

Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon seems to have some issues with the TV series that Marvel is developing. We already posted an article regarding his thoughts on Agent Coulson being brought back to life for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and that rant continued in an interview with IGN when he was asked if Phil Coulson is indeed still dead as far as the movies are concerned.

“Yeah he’s dead. The entire television series is just a fever dream. It’s a Jacob’s Ladder moment he’s having at the point of death, but we don’t give that away until after season seven. And there’s a snow globe. Now I’ve given it away. Bollocks!
“It’s a weird little yes and no. As far as I’m concerned in the films, yes he’s dead. In terms of the narrative of these guys [The Avengers] his loss was very important. When I created the television show, it was sort of on the understanding that this can work and we can do it with integrity, but these Avengers movies are for people to see the Avengers movies and nothing else. And it would neither make sense nor be useful to say ‘Oh and by the way remember me? I died!’”

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has clearly caused some complication in the Marvel cinematic universe. What's interesting about this is that Whedon is the guy who helped bring this series to life. I'm sure there were certain rules he had to abide by when developing it, though. The filmmaker went on to say,

“I think actually the movie people were a little bit cross about the TV show. They were sort of like ‘Well you can have this but not this. And this but not that.’ It’s complicated enough as it is without me adding another layer of complication. We also created a TV show called S.H.I.E.L.D. right before they made a movie where they destroyed S.H.I.E.L.D.. So everybody’s having a GREAT time!”

I know he's throwing in some sarcastic remarks in these comments, but as you know, there is truth in all sarcasm. Sounds like juggling all of this stuff that Marvel is developing has become a headache for some people. I guess that's to be expected from such a world as the one they are trying to build.

Marvel seems to be on the right track though, because fans are eating up everything that they are creating for us.

Pixar's INSIDE OUT Emotions React to AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Trailer

Since Disney owns both Pixar and Marvel, they are able to cross-promote films, and someone at the studio saw the opportunity to do this with Inside Out and Avengers: Age of Ultron. These are two completely different kinds of films, and it's interesting that they found a way to pull it off in an adorable way. They cut together a video that features the emotion characters from Inside Out reacting to an Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer.

The characters shown here include Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), and Disgust (Mindy Kaling). Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1st, and Inside Out comes out on June 19th.

STAR WARS REBELS Might Cross Over With STAR WARS Live-Action Films

We've heard time and time again that Star Wars Rebels is set in between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. With the Star Wars AnthologyRogue One standalone film being developed which takes place in the same time period, will we see Rebels crossover with any of the live-action films being made?

According to Rebels producers Simon Kinberg and Dave Filoni, it could very well happen. During an interview with /Film, it was revealed that the show is not bound to any timeline, and that there could be crossover with the films on the animated show itself. There's also a possibility that we could see characters from Rebels show up in the live-action movies!

When asked if there was talk of the animated series crossing over with the live-action film, Kinberg said:

"Absolutely there’s been conversation about it. That this story could be a story that crosses over into other films, whether it’s A New Hope or other movies. And that movies could potentially even enter into our timeline and our moment. It’s a big galaxy. So, you know, things are happening all over the place that don’t necessarily have to react to each other, the way we react to news around the world. We never meet the Chilean miners that are trapped in that mine. We know about it and the world reacts to it. So each of the different stories has to acknowledge the reality of what’s ever happening in that moment in time.
"But sure, and I think one of the things that’s really fun about Rebels, and potentially some of the films, is there’s a sort of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern version of these stories. I mean, the stories that George [Lucas] told were stories about specific characters in a massive galaxy. And so there are a lot of other characters’ stories that he hasn’t told."

Filoni is then asked if we could possibly see the animated characters in live-action form, to which he replied:

"I would never say never to that. I mean, now that Lucasfilm is so integrated in story from top to bottom in all different forms of media, we already have had our characters cross over into novels. We’re gonna have our crossover into comic books. I would say it’s entirely possible. And I would encourage it.

He went on to say that he has talked to the the creators of the films being made, and he's made it clear to them that if they want to use any characters from Rebels, they just need to let him know. He thinks that it will make the experience stronger for the fans. It's something he would love to see eventually happen, and I'm sure the fans would love it too.

Just because there has been talk doesn't mean that it's going to happen for sure. But the seeds of the idea have been planted, and if someone wants to pull the trigger on it, it sounds like everyone involved would be on board to push it forward.

Jeremy Renner Sings as Hawkeye on THE TONIGHT SHOW

With Avengers: Age of Ultron opening stateside this week, Jeremy Renner went on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote the movie. While he was there, he dressed in character as Hawkeye and sang a parody song to the tune of Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" that tried to prove why he's a worthwhile character who should be able to stand alongside people like Thor and Captain America on the superhero team.

Hawkeye fans out there must have been as disappointed as Renner himself when the character spent most of The Avengers as a mind-controlled bad guy. But Joss Whedon must have felt bad about having to use him like that the first time around, because Hawkeye has the best and most surprising storyline of any character in Age of Ultron. Anyway, check out the video below. It's pretty funny.

Joss Whedon Fought For Marvel to Make a DAREDEVIL Movie

joss-whedon-fought-for-marvel-to-make-a-daredevil-movie

Joss Whedon has yet to see Marvel's Daredevil Netflix series, but before that was made, he was fighting for Marvel to make a movie instead. While talking to IGN, the director admitted:

“I fought for Daredevil to be a film instead of a TV show. Then under the auspices of Drew Goddard and Steve DeKnight… I’m dying to see the show but they released it just as I started the press tour!"

I'm really curious to see what he thinks of it when he finally gets around to watching it. I loved the series, and a lot of other fans seemed to enjoy it as well. Whedon has heard the buzz and he said:

“If the show’s working, the show’s working. Comic books are serialised entertainment and a lot of them lend themselves to TV shows as much or more than they do to movies."

The filmmaker goes on to to discuss why he likes the character of Daredevil, and why he thought it would work better as a movie:

“I like him because he’s basically Marvel’s Batman, thanks to Frank Miller basically. So for me I didn’t think they’d be able to sustain that sort of mood on TV but TV has changed so much. It’s come up so much that I think it might just be the right place.”

I think the series did an awesome job sustaining that mood, and I'm sure they'll be able to carry it on through its second season. I think TV is the perfect medium for Daredevil, but I do hope that one day he does make it back into the feature films. There's a chance that could happen if the rumors turn out to be true.

LEGO MARVEL SUPER HEROES Gets An Honest Game Trailer

The gang at Smosh and ScreenJunkies is back with a new Honest Game Trailer, and this time they turn their attention to the LEGO video game phenomenon: specifically LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. Most of this video is fine, but they apparently just couldn't resist throwing in their completely unnecessary stupid bro humor at the very end with a comment about Black Widow and Wonder Woman making out. Really, guys? Are we still doing this? Grow up. It's 2015, for God's sake.

JURASSIC WORLD Will Ignore The Previous Two JURASSIC PARK Sequels

I haven't heard from anyone who has seen the film yet, but from the comments I've seen, Jurassic World has received a mixed response from movie fans so far. The nostalgia of trying to recreate Steven Spielberg's original has some people excited, but one of the biggest criticisms I've seen has been the idea of "why didn't they learn from the mistakes of the previous movies?" Well, now at least part of that question has been answered.

In an interview with Yahoo, director Colin Trevorrow said that Jurassic World is a direct sequel to Jurassic Park, skipping over the two previous sequels:

Of course, Jurassic World isn’t a mere re-creation of Jurassic Park; it’s a direct sequel to the original, set some 20 years after the events of Spielberg’s film. (According to Trevorrow, the previous sequels aren’t being written out of continuity so much as placed to the side, as they both unfolded on a different island.) In that time, a functioning theme park has been constructed on Isla Nubar, overseen by operations manager Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) and employing hundreds of staffers, including velociraptor trainer Owen Grady (Chris Pratt).

OK, so let's say the events of the previous two sequels are "placed to the side." Even though a majority of the action admittedly took place on a different island, The Lost World still brought a freaking T-rex to San Diego. Is no one going to mention that in this movie? Are all of these characters — many of whom are working to build a dinosaur-inhabited theme park — going to be blissfully unaware of that time that the world's most dangerous killing machine made landfall in the contiguous United States and stomped his way through a major metropolitan area? That seems inexcusable, doesn't it? I hope that's not the case. Trevorrow seems like a smart guy, so maybe his quote was taken out of context.

And speaking of Trevorrow, there's a good piece over at /Film about how he got the job, and while the whole thing is worth reading, it basically boils down to Brad Bird not being able to direct Star Wars: Episode VII because he was busy with Tomorrowland. There was a brief time in which Kathleen Kennedy considered bringing Trevorrow on to prep Star Wars as a sort of stand-in director while Bird finished Tomorrowland (with the intention of Bird being able to make the two films back to back), but when that didn't work out, producer Frank Marshall introduced Trevorrow to Spielberg and he ended up making that movie instead. Pretty cool stuff.

Jurassic World arrives in theaters on June 12th.

Ryan Phillippe In Talks With Marvel to Star in Netflix Series

Ryan Phillippe was a guest on the Howard Stern show this morning, and while he was there he revealed that he was in talks with Marvel to star in one of their upcoming Netflix series. For those of you who don't know or remember, the actor was up for the role of Captain America a few years back. It seems like Marvel kept him in mind for something else.

The 40-year old actor is currently starring in ABC’s drama Secrets And Lies, which he's great in. He didn't say what role he was specifically up for, but seeing that Iron Fist is the only main character that hasn't been cast yet, I think it's safe to say that could be the role he's up for.

There have also been unconfirmed rumors of Marvel developing a series based on The Punisher, so if that's true there's also a chance that maybe he could be up for the role of Frank Castle.

Of course there's always the possibility that he could be up for a villainous role like Bullseye, who could very well be introduced in the second season of Daredevil.

The fact that the actor was so willing to give up this information tells us that the discussions he's been having with the studio have likely been going on for awhile, and they are serious about bring him on. Phillippe is a solid actor, and it'd be cool to see see him join the MCU regardless of what character he plays.

SUPER CLOWN: A GRAND THEFT AUTO Slasher Movie

Using GTA V's director mode on the PC, YouTuber Boris the Blade (nice Snatch reference!) has created a slasher movie called Super Clown, which follows an invincible clown (rocking a Joker-esque purple jacket) who can leap massive distances as he straight up murders people for no discernible reason. It's a pretty dark film, made even more so by the clown's creepy unblinking eyes. It showcases some of the cool stuff you can do with GTA now that it's hit the PC and more mods are becoming available, but like I said, it's dark: characters are slashed with knives, blown up with grenades, and shot in the head, all while somber music plays in the background. I look forward to seeing what other GTA-ers come up with, and hopefully future efforts will be a bit on the lighter side.

David Duchovny Says THE X-FILES Series Will Play Like a Six Hour Movie

In a recent interview with THR, David Duchovny talked about the upcoming X-Files six-episode series event. This is one of the most highly anticipated series revivals being developed, and I can't wait to see how they move the story of these characters along. According to the actor, it was never the original plan to bring the series back to the small screen.

"When I was doing the show, I always assumed – because we started to do the movies – that we would naturally transition to not carrying the load of doing a full season of the show but doing a movie every four or five years."

Unfortunately the movies didn't do as well as they had hoped, but I couldn't be happier that it's coming back as a TV series. As much as I wanted to see a movie get made, I think bringing it back like this was the perfect idea.

"That didn't work out with the movies. … [The second movie] did well, but I guess not well enough. Fox made some mistakes with that movie that hurt the franchise and they didn't seem to want to do another movie. So as the TV landscape changed and as it became conceivable to do this show without doing 22 or 25 [episodes] of them on television, then it seemed like a natural thing.
"We all started to think, 'I don’t mind doing it on TV if we don’t have to do a full season.' We just could make it like a six-hour movie."

I'm up for a six-hour X-Files movie! What fan wouldn't be? Duchovny goes on to talk about coming back to reprise his role, and jumping back into the world of X-Files saying:

"It's been awhile since I've played Mulder so it's going to be strange for sure the first couple days. Luckily Gillian [Anderson] will be there and we'll be there for each other to say, 'That doesn’t seem right or something like that.' All the principals are back. Chris [Carter] will be there, Gillian will be there, I'll be there and we can all check on each other and say, 'Is this the show?' Because we'll find it. It's just a matter of relaxing and letting it happen."

He then explained that the series is going to be the same show it has always been, except for the fact that the the times have changed and the characters are older. I'm looking forward to seeing how this all comes together. I do hope that they involve the sci-fi UFO conspiracy elements, though.

When Will Marvel Start Making More Black Widow Toys and Other Female-Friendly Merchandise?

$

0

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an unstoppable money train at this point, churning out (mostly) great films and seemingly gaining more fans with every new movie. And while it's easy to crap on DC's output in the film department in comparison, they're certainly dominating Marvel in one area where it matters: merchandising. DC just announced that they're creating a superhero line for young girls, while Marvel — a company that has otherwise been relatively progressive over the years — still can't seem to wrap its head around the fact that if little girls are digging your movies, comics, etc., it might be nice to create some toys that are geared toward them. Hell, it's not just "nice," it's financially beneficial to them! Girls are actively looking for Black Widow merchandise to buy, but there aren't very many options out there for them. Similarly, there was a big dust-up when Guardians of the Galaxy came out about how Gamora was excluded from a lot of the merchandising.

I don't want to get too far off topic here, but with the riots in Baltimore, I've seen this Junot Diaz quote passed around a couple of times over the past few days:

If you want to make a human being into a monster, deny them, at the cultural level, any reflection of themselves.

I think to a lesser degree, that sentiment can apply to young girls growing up loving modern geek culture. There was a time when it was (sadly) considered the norm to reject and shun women who were into geeky stuff, but as geek culture has slowly turned into mainstream culture over the past couple of decades, there's been a big shift toward openness and inclusion of women. That's awesome, and absolutely necessary. It shouldn't have ever even been an issue in the first place, but progress is undoubtedly being made. But when one of the stars of Marvel's biggest movie takes to Twitter with a statement like this, there's a problem:

Come on, Marvel: when the Hulk asks you to do something, you should probably do it. He asked nicely that time, and you wouldn't like him when he's angry.

Concerning Info on How Warner Bros. Is Handling the DC Cinematic Universe

$

inside-details-on-how-warner-bros-is-handling-the-dc-comics-universe

According to Greg Silverman, President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production at Warner Bros., “We’re on track to deliver a slate of films that will delight audiences everywhere thanks to the efforts of the many exceptionally talented people invested in the success of this universe.”

This is exactly what fanboys and fangirls around the world want to hear, and we all hope that the studio will deliver awesome superhero films that we will all enjoy. They have control of some of the most popular and beloved superhero characters of all time, and the fans want to see them get the movies they deserve. Who knows if that's what we are going to get, though?

THR has a very interesting article that sheds some light on what is going on behind the scenes of the development of these films, and it's kind of worrisome. BTIG analyst Richard Greenfield pointed out the obvious:

"Marvel has been an unbelievable platform for Disney to build and foster franchises. The question for Warners is, can they replicate that strategy using DC."

It has been pretty amazing to watch what Marvel has done. They have a great collaborative team over there developing the stories for their films. Everyone seems to be on the same page with what is happening, and they have a clear direction of where they are taking things. It doesn't sound like Warner Bros. has that same synergy.

It seems like the studio is trying to play catch-up and rushing things along without really thinking things through, other than they just want to make a bunch of superhero films to properties they own. A perfect example of this is how they handled Wonder Woman. They implemented an unorthodox strategy in which the studio hired five writers to compete for the writing job. Here THR explains how it went down:

"Each [writer] was given a treatment and asked to write a first act. Based on those efforts, the studio winnowed the number to two: Jason Fuchs (Pan) and another writer whose name the studio declines to reveal. A source not involved in the films but with close ties to the studio says the process on Wonder Woman 'felt like they were throwing shit against the wall to see what stuck.'"

That really doesn't inspired much confidence. The studio is handling Aquaman the same way, and they have commissioned three writers to develop scripts. Those writers include Will Beall, Jeff Nichols, and Kurt Johnstad. The film is currently on hold, but these writers will be available to them as soon as they are ready to proceed. I'm sure this is what they are planning to do with all of their upcoming slate of films.

I understand not everyone can be Marvel, and maybe this way of doing things will work out. I want to see Warner Bros. make spectacular superhero films. It's what all of us want to see. Only time will tell if that's what we'll get.

I hope it does! It just doesn't seem like the best way to form a universe because it tells me that they don't have any clear vision of where they want to take things. Make sure to check out the full article because it's really quite fascinating.

Do you think how they are going about scripting these films will work?

Watch Old People Play MORTAL KOMBAT X and React to Fatalities

We've already seen a video featuring elderly individuals playing Grand Theft Auto V. Now the Fine Bros. have released a new video featuring a small group of old people playing Mortal Kombat X and reacting to the brutally bloody fatalities that the game offers. It's hilarious watching them playing these games, and their reactions are priceless. This game is obviously not meant for their generation.

Get ready for fun.  We had senior citizens not only watch the over the top violent fatalities from the new Mortal Kombat game, we also threw them into the fray and had 8 elders square off in a tournament!
This is pretty great stuff seeing them get into defeating each other, and then of course their horror at the violence. And continues the interest in seeing older people actually have fun playing games that they traditionally would be so adverse to playing.  Hope you enjoy and thanks for your time!

Vin Diesel's THE LAST WITCH HUNTER Gets First Trailer and Poster

I can buy Vin Diesel as the macho leader of a band of drivers in the Fast & Furious movies, but I'm not so sure you can drop him into any movie genre and have an instant hit on your hands. Case in point: the new trailer and poster for The Last Witch Hunter (via MTV), in which Diesel plays the title character. The film is directed by Breck Eisner (The Crazies), and it also stars Rose Leslie (Ygritte from Game of Thrones), Elijah Wood, and Michael Caine. My only hope is that Diesel and Michael Caine became friends on set and Caine eventually ends up playing Jason Statham and Luke Evans' father in the Fast movies. Let us know what you think about the trailer below. The Last Witch Hunter opens on October 23rd.

Fox is Developing a Sequel to KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE

Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service was such an incredible, entertaining, and badass movie. There was some brief talk about a sequel after the movie blew up at the box office, but now it looks like Fox has started the process of developing one. The director said that he would love to do another one, and teased:

"You wouldn't believe what we've got in store. Poor Mark Strong will be going on a journey that he never imagined. And we've got this idea to introduce the world to the American branch of the Kingsman."

The news comes from The Wrap, who says that there will be a sequel to the action-packed comic book adaptation that was created by Mark Millar and Dave GibbonsThere's no word though on if Vaughn will offically direct or if Colin Firth will be back to reprise his role.

If you've seen the film then you know the fate of his character, and it will be interesting to see how they plan on including him in the sequel if they do. There is a possibility that it could happen though. In regards to that, Vaughn has said:

“A lot of people are very upset that Colin might not be in the sequel but I’m coming up with ideas at the moment. If people buy tickets in America, I’ve got a feeling we’ll figure out a way for having Colin back.
“The sequel will be ‘This is the modern-day gentleman spy.’ Because Harry [Firth's character] isn’t. Harry even says, ‘There is a reason why we’ve developed weak chins.’ He said that meaning, ‘Look at us, we need to get new blood into this system,’ and that’s what Eggsy [Taron Egerton] is. I joke that we’ve made the prequel to the Eggsy movie.”

The first movie also starred Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Caine, and Taron Egerton, who took on the lead role. If anyone comes back for sure, it will be Egerton.

Vaughn is currently developing another comic book adaptation for Fox called The Golden Age, which is about superheroes in a retirement home. He's also in talks to direct the Flash Gordon remake.

Spider-Man Joins The Avengers in Exuberant "Spidey Reunited" Art

A little over a year ago, we wrote about a piece of art from artist Mauricio Abril that featured Spider-Man not being allowed to play with The Avengers. The image ended up going viral and even reached the halls of Sony Pictures, where it was reportedly sent around on an e-mail thread between some of the studio's top executives.

Now Abril is back with a new piece called "Spidey Reunited," which features the triumphant return of the web-slinger to his Avenger friends. There are so many great details in this piece, from the two businessmen making the deal in the background (one wearing Mickey Mouse ears) to Tony Stark creating a sand sculpture of Ultron to the sheer joy on the kids' faces at the sight of their friend coming back into the fold. Whether the character is eventually played by Asa Butterfield or not, I hope the movies are able to incorporate some of this sense of magic of seeing these characters hang out together. Thanks to Mauricio himself for sending this in!

Trailer For Woody Allen's Newest Film IRRATIONAL MAN

Woody Allen has had his fair share of controversy off screen over the past few years, but that's not stopping him from continuing to make movies. His newest film, Irrational Man, stars Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, and Parker Posey. The first trailer has been released, and it's a little strange in that it seems incredibly surface-level, but I have a hunch that this is going to have a Midnight in Paris-style twist that's being left out of the marketing. (Maybe something akin to the hypnotism in Office Space?) There are some tiny hints here that suggest things might not be what they seem, and EW says Allen was so paranoid about the script being leaked that he didn't even let his lead actors see more than 20 pages of it. Take a look below and let us know what you think.
