Awesome Marvel Cinematic Universe Trailer Will Pump You Up

0
0

Yesterday, I wrote about a musical supercut of all of the modern Marvel films, including X-Men, The Punisher, and even Howard the Duck. Today, we have an awesome trailer for only the movies in Phases One and Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which includes some footage from Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man.

I know there are some people who think audiences might be feeling some sort of "superhero movie fatigue," but when you watch this and think about all of the awesome moments Marvel Studios has brought to the big screen over the past few years, it doesn't look like audiences are going to stop showing up to these movies any time soon. Even as someone who occasionally feels a little jaded when it comes to these mega-blockbusters, this trailer got me pumped up and made me want to rewatch all of these films. (But if you don't have the time for that before Age of Ultron hits American theaters this week, check out this recap.)

Just what I needed to get pumped up for a day of writing GotG2.

GEARS OF WAR Being Remastered for the Xbox One

0
0

I'm a huge fan of the Gears of War video game franchise, and as much as I wanted to see more games developed, I don't think it will ever happen. You know what is happening though? A remaster for the Xbox One.

The game will include upgraded lighting and texture graphics and will run at 60 frames per second. The cinematics are also being recreated by an animation studio named Plastic Wax.

The news was confirmed by Kotaku, who says "three different people playing tonight’s test build tell us that it’s just the first Gears of War. This test build is multiplayer-only, featuring the following modes: Team Deathmatch; King of the Hill; 1 Life 1V1 Shotgun TDM; 1v1 Sudden Death Gnashers Only; 4v4 TDM Single Round; and 4v4 KOTH Single Round."

There were rumors that the Gears of War game collection would be coming to the console, but it looks like they are just working on the first game...for now. Who knows what the future plan of the franchise will be, but I image that if this first one does well then maybe we'll see more. Maybe it will even pave the way for a new chapter.

Xbox head Phil Spencer talked about Gears of War last year, saying that Microsoft was looking to get back to basics with the franchise:

"The thing that was great about the early Gears of War games, to me, was just the epic scale of the settings that I was in. The story, the setting was a lot more what I would call soulful and maybe even a little dark. I think the game over time became almost more of a parody of itself; not for any kind of horrible reasons. It's hard to continue to manage the IP."

Can you believe that Gears of War turns 10 years old in 2016!? I can't believe it has been that long. Seems like just yesterday that I was spending long sleepless night fighting the Locust Horde, and yelling obscenities at other gamers I was playing against. Good times!

This Guy Might Be The First SUICIDE SQUAD Joker Cosplayer

On Friday, director David Ayer shared the first full look at Jared Leto in costume as The Joker for the upcoming film Suicide Squad. People quickly lit up our comments sections with their thoughts — I think it's fair to say that most of you weren't really feelin' it — but while most of us were mulling over the character's new look, a cosplayer named Mad Tony immediately got to work. The day after the photo hit the internet, he showed up in costume at Wizard World Las Vegas. You've gotta give it to him: that's an extremely impressive turnaround time. I'm certain we'll see thousands more iterations of the Suicide Squad Joker in cosplay form over the years, but I think this guy might be able to legitimately lay claim to being the first one to do it.

Here's Leto's Joker for comparison:

James Cameron Has a Script For a Fifth AVATAR Movie

We already know that James Cameron is developing three more sequels for his Avatar franchise, and he has a team of writers working on them. If everything stays on track, these films will be released each year beginning in 2017.

Now it seems like the story of Avatar has spilled over into a script for a fourth sequel. The news comes from composer James Horner, who worked on films with Cameron such as Titanic, Avatar, and Aliens. So is there a chance we might end up seeing five Avatar films? Well, probably not.

Horner revealed that Cameron is trying to take the story for this fifth film and condense it back into the planned three sequels that he's working on. Here's the quote from an interview with Hey U Guys:

"Right now Jim has four sequels, script wise. And he’s trying to make it into three. And that is where, I think, his effort is going right now. To keep it to three sequels. Because he’s got so much going on how do you keep it from expanding into a fifth movie, total. And he’ll get that sorted out."

One of the last things that we heard from Cameron about these movies is when he enthusiastically said:

“I can tell you one thing about them. They’re gonna be bitchin’. You will shit yourself with your mouth wide open.”

Cameron's writing team consists of Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno, and I'm sure they are all hard at work trying to figure out how to make what Cameron wants work. If you can, check out the video interview with Horner below:

Josh Hartnett Regrets Turning Down Batman Role for Christopher Nolan

josh-hartnett-regrets-turning-down-batman-role-for-christopher-nolan

Josh Hartnett has had his fare share of offers to play big superheroes in movies. He was not only up for the role of Superman at one point, but Christopher Nolan also offered him the role of Batman in Batman Begins. The actor ended up turning down the part, and as you know it went to Christian Bale. This was a decision that he says he regrets. In an interview with Playboy Magazine (via Variety), the actor explains:

“I’ve definitely said no to some of the wrong people. I learned my lesson when Christopher Nolan and I talked about Batman. I decided it wasn’t for me. Then he didn’t want to put me in ‘The Prestige.’ They not only hired their Batman for it, they also hired my girlfriend (Scarlett Johansson) at the time.”

The actor went on to explain that the reason why he didn’t take on the role was because he didn’t want to be boxed into being a superhero-type actor. He said:

“I was so focused on not being pigeonholed and so scared of being considered only one thing as an actor. Watching Christian Bale go on to do so many other things has been just awesome. I mean, he’s been able to overcome that. Why couldn’t I see that at the time?”

It’s weird to think that Hartnett’s career could have been insanely different had he taken Nolan up on his offer. He’s had an OK career and is currently starring in the awesome Showtime series Penny Dreadful, but taking the role of Batman would have been huge for him! I wonder what his take on the character would have been like.

I can understand why at the time he didn’t want to take the part. Superhero movies were still somewhat risky at the time, but that’s all changed now. Sounds like he’s kicking himself in the ass for that one.

Rumor: X-MEN: APOCALYPSE and WOLVERINE 3 Will End Bryan Singer's X-MEN Movieverse

0

Take this one with a grain of salt, but scoop master El Mayimbe (who has left Latino Review and is apparently prepping a new site of his own) is reporting an unconfirmed rumor that X-Men: Apocalypse and the upcoming sequel to The Wolverine will be the final films in Bryan Singer's X-Men universe.

#RUMOR I'm being told that X-MEN: APOCALYPSE & WOLVERINE 3 will mark the end of the Bryan Singer X-MEN universe he started back in 2000. Makes sense since Hugh Jackman also said Wolverine 3 will be his last film playing Logan. The end of an era. #XMEN #APOCALYPSE #Wolverine #bryansinger #HughJackman

A photo posted by Umberto Gonzalez (@umbertogonzalez) on

The point about Hugh Jackman makes this rumor sound legit to me, because I can easily see Singer and Jackman having a discussion about bringing this franchise to an end together (James Mangold is helming Wolverine 3, but still). Jackman has been the face of these movies for 15 years, and the idea of recasting someone to play Wolverine and interact with all of the already-established characters seems like a daunting one.

But at the same time, from 20th Century Fox's position, it doesn't make a ton of sense that they would just cut the cord on this universe they've spent years building. The studio has signed some of the hottest actors in Hollywood to headline this franchise (Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, etc.), but with Jackman bowing out and Apocalypse being Lawrence's last ride, they admittedly find themselves in the position of losing at least two of their biggest stars in the very near future. (I'm not sure about Fassbender, McAvoy, and Hoult's deals, but I assume they mirror Lawrence's.) Still, there's a lot of money to be made with these characters, and even with these hiccups, I find it a little tough to swallow that a studio would shut down the whole cinematic universe over this.

We already know that Deadpool takes place in Singer's X-Men universe, and with Channing Tatum's Gambit coming up, it just seems like a waste if he didn't interact with Sophie Turner and whoever else remains in the X-verse by the time we get to that film. I don't know, maybe now is as good a time as any to completely recast everything and start telling different stories with different versions of these characters. What do you all think?

Cowherd Has a Problem: It's Being Out of Touch, Not HEROES OF THE DORM

0

Colin Cowherd, host of the ESPN morning sports radio show The Herd, took to the mic to give his rather, let's call it "out of touch" opinion on E-Sports, specifically the Heroes of the Dorm tournament that played on ESPN 2 recently. Here are some of his comments.

“Here’s what’s going to get me off the air: If I am ever forced to cover guys playing video games, I will retire and move to a rural fishing village and sell bait. You want me out? Demand video game tournaments on ESPN, because that’s what appeared on ESPN2 yesterday."

It keeps going. About midway through the video he throws out this fantastic quote.

“Somebody lock the basement door at mom’s house, and don’t let them out.”

Wow, nice. If that wasn’t enough, here are a few other choice nuggets.

“I tagged out at Harry Potter.”

I have no idea what that means.

"I tolerated Donkey Kong."

Kind of like most people tolerate the ESPY's, but okay.

"I'll tell you what that was the equivalent of, there. Of me putting a gun in my mouth, having to listen to that."

All right, well we passed hyperbole awhile back and evidently entered the valley of complete what the hell? Comparing the mere thought of covering a video game tournament to an experience that would make one put a gun in his mouth is really a bit too far, and I’m being very kind with “a bit."

The fact is E-Sports are growing whether you like it or not, and while ESPN2 showcases some great shows, it also has 2 and a half hours of SportsCenter daily, while also replaying shows that already aired earlier in the day (First Take, His And Hers, etc). You don’t think there is some room on your schedule for something new? Truth be told, no one was really discussing ESPN2 much at all as a brand until Heroes of the Dorm. Shouldn’t that say something about the validity of this kind of tournament?

Look, I have enjoyed Colin’s show many a time over the years, and his podcast as well. Didn’t always agree with him, but that doesn’t matter. He is allowed to have an opinion, popular or not. That said, he sounds like an ass here: an ignorant and outdated ass to boot. There is no reason —none — to belittle a group of people in this way simply because you don't "get" them or their preferred activity. There are many, even in your vaunted area of professional sports, that love video games, and I’m pretty sure that most of them aren't sitting in their moms' basements with Cheetos and Mountain Dew in hand. Granted, even if they love Cheetos and Mountain Dew, it still doesn't make them the societal outcasts you proclaim them to be.

Above all else, at least do some research before you rant like that. Good God, Donkey Kong? That was the most recent thing you or your producers could dream up?

At about 60% of the way through the above video, you will see Colin (before he insults another hosts work ethic) talk about how he approaches mistakes. I promise this is related, just stick with me. Here is what he says.

"I do live television and radio every day. I’ve made huge mistakes and I’ll keep making them. I’ve had horrible segments, and I’ve said irresponsible things. I’ve been an idiot. Then after a commercial break I have to go back on the air. Like a quarterback, I’ve got to keep producing. Feel crappy about it, feel terrible about it, critics are right, I’m wrong, but I’ve got to go back on the air. Can’t sit and dwell on mistakes. I’m doing 40 columns a day.”

Okay, that’s fair. The thing is, if a quarterback keeps making the same mistake, he gets benched, and if he keeps doing it, eventually he gets cut. That doesn’t happen to you does it? You’re not a quarterback, and you’re not in charge of deciding what is allowed to air on your precious network. You are on the radio, and are quite privileged to be doing what you do. It's not the mistakes that people have a problem with. It's that you keep making the same ones, and never seem to apologize for them. No one cares how many columns you write a day. I get it, it's live radio, but that’s not an excuse. Think before you generalize an entire group of people next time, and maybe don’t compare commentating on an E-Sport as tantamount to suicide.

Common sense is free. Please use it.

Honest Trailer for Ang Lee's HULK

Ang Lee's Hulk gets a bad wrap from fans, but I actually liked the movie. I can see the issues that people have with it, but I thought it was really an innovative film that was beautifully shot. I'm used to hearing people tear it apart, and the team at Screen Junkies do a helluva job at it in their latest Honest Trailer. They almost make me not want to like this movie anymore!

Before he was everyone's favorite Avenger, the Hulk was introduced as a poorly-rendered, moody Shrek in Ang Lee's Hulk!!

Bryan Singer on X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Being a "Big Monster of a Movie”

Earlier today we posted some concept art for Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse, along with set photos giving us our first look at Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Lana Condor as Jubilee, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler.

Empire Magazine has now released a statement that the director made to them regarding the film, and how huge it's going to be. They also released higher resolution images of the concept art, which I included below.

“It’s a big monster of a movie. The stakes are so high and global and the villain is so mythic. It’s definitely an X-Men movie, but it really feels different.”

Damn! He's really hyping up the epicness of the story in that statement. The movie is set in 1983 and as you know it will introduce young versions of several characters, some of which I mentioned above. Writer Simon Kinberg talked about these characters and made it clear that they are going to be more than just cameos in the story:

“They’re as much a part of the movie as our main cast. Scott is not yet the squeaky-clean leader. Storm is a troubled character who is going down the wrong path in life. And Jean is complex, interesting and not fully mature. It’s fun to see someone struggling with their powers when you know one day they’ll become the most powerful person in the world.”

I think it's great that they are exploring these characters in X-Men: Apocalypse, and it sounds like there's a good chance that this movie is going to be even better than Days of Future Past. It's set to be released on May 19th, 2016.

What If Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, Michael Bay and Other Directors Made You Dinner?

This comic strip from Cheekylicious wouldn't be the first thing to ever compare directors to chefs, but it may be one of the most visceral comparisons I've seen. The way that the artist contextualizes the movies of Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, the Coen Brothers, and more is admittedly simplistic, but it works very well in comic form. I especially agree with the commentary on the movies of Tim Burton (although Big Eyes is his most important film exactly because it doesn't adhere to his normal stylistic trappings), and the part about Uwe Boll was predictably disgusting. Do you think these are accurate comparisons? Let us know in the comments.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD — New Trailer Saved The Best For Last

0

Mad Max: Fury Road continues its onslaught of awesome-looking trailers, and it appears that director George Miller was able to create a hell of a movie out there in the Namibian desert. This newest (and presumably final) trailer showcases more of Charlize Theron's Furiosa character, and shows off tons of mind-blowing footage that looks like it was shot practically (that quick glimpse of Max's head hanging dangerously out of a car while he's upside down is nuts). I'm convinced that this is going to be the surprise hit of the summer. Visually, it's unlike anything I've ever seen, and I can't wait to see what Miller, Tom Hardy, and the rest of the filmmakers were able to come up with.

The movie premieres at this year's Cannes Film Festival, and opens in the U.S. on May 15th.

Ben Affleck Spotted On SUICIDE SQUAD Set, Seemingly Confirming Batman Cameo

About three months ago, rumors began popping up that Ben Affleck's Batman would appear in WB/DC's upcoming Suicide Squad movie as more than just a cameo. By this point, it was all but assured that we'd see him pop up on computer monitors at some point as other characters talk about him, but the rumor said Affleck himself would be making a more traditional cameo in the movie. For the past few months, everyone's been more concerned with the casting and with Jared Leto's take on The Joker, but now there is a set photo from a Twitter user (via ComingSoon) that puts Affleck on the set in Toronto while filming is underway.

eTalk had reported that Affleck was in the Canadian city, but that could mean anything. This is the first photo of him on the set (that we're aware of, anyway), so it's very, very likely that we'll see him in the flesh (either as Bruce Wayne, Batman, or both) in the film. Early word said that he'd have a scene with Leto's Joker that would ideally set up a solo Batman film down the line, and that prior to the events in the movie, The Joker was the only person who has ever met Batman. We'll keep our eyes and ears open for more as production on Suicide Squad continues.

Behind The Scenes of Universal's FAST & FURIOUS: SUPERCHARGED Ride

Furious 7 continues to make money at the worldwide box office, but the film has already surpassed pretty much everyone's expectations: in just four weeks, it's become the fifth highest-grossing movie of all time. That's pretty insane for the seventh entry in a series of films that began as a cops and robbers movie about street racing. I happen to think it's the best film of the franchise so far, but your mileage may vary.

We've heard a little about the Universal Studios ride Fast & Furious: Supercharged, and now there's a new behind the scenes video that shows Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese, and Dwayne Johnson creating the footage that you'll see on the ride when you visit the park. The ride opens on June 25th, but I'm hoping to get a chance to preview it before that, so if I do, I'll write about it here. Stay tuned.

Is Sony Developing an All-Female 21 JUMP STREET Spinoff Film?

0
0

First Sony Pictures announced that they will be making an all-female Ghostbusters film, and now according to the Tracking Board, it sounds like they might also be making a female 21 Jump Street spin-off movie.

According to the report, Comedy Central’s Broad City scribes Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs are developing the script for project. This is just a rumor at the moment, but if it’s actually happening, it’s probably in the very early stages of development.

Their are no plot details to report at the moment, but the story is said to have the same tone of the Phil Lord and Chris Miller movie that starred Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. I guess one scenario could follow the rival undercover team featured in the first movie, who were played by Dakota Johnson and Rye Rye.

This franchise is a huge deal for Sony, so it makes sense that they would want to move forward with a project like this. They are also developing an MIB and Jump Street crossover film, and 23 Jump Street is in development with screenwriter Rodney Rothman taking on the script. Hill and Tatum are expected to reprise their role in both projects.

Do you think an all-female 21 Jump Street film could be a big hit?

HALO 5: GUARDIANS Box Art Revealed, New Promo Video

halo-5-guardians-box-art-revealed-and-promo-video1

Microsoft has released the box art for Halo 5: Guardians along with an animated promo video dramatically introducing the art design.

The design establishes the "Master Chief vs. Spartan Locke" theme. There is also the addition of two four-person fireteams that you see in the video. Each one is led by one of the game's main characters.

Microsoft describes them as "new Spartans,"  and it makes me think that maybe there's a chance that a 4-player co-op could be included in its campaign this time around.

Halo 5: Guardians continues the story of the Master Chief, and introduces a brand new central character to the Halo universe – Spartan Locke (as seen in the liveaction series “Halo: Nightfall”). Peace is shattered when colony worlds are unexpectedly attacked. And when humanity’s greatest hero goes missing, Spartan Locke is tasked with hunting the Master Chief and solving a mystery that threatens the entire galaxy.

Halo 5: Guardians will be released on Xbox One on October 27th, 2015. To watch the most recent trailer for the game, click here.

Asa Butterfield Frontrunner for SPIDER-MAN?

0
0
asa-butterfield-frontrunner-for-spider-man

Last week a shortlist of young actors reportedly up for the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Marvel and Sony's upcoming co-production hit the internet. They included Nat Wolff, Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet, and Liam James.

All of them seem like great contenders to take on the role of a young teenage version of the webslinger, but I'm personally a fan of Butterfield, who has starred in films such as Hugo and Ender's Game, and I'm rooting for him to get the part.

According to Latino-Review, Butterfield is the frontrunner for the role, which is pretty exciting! He would be amazing in the role. It has not been confirmed by Marvel or Sony yet, so this is just a rumor for now, but it's a rumor that I obviously want to be true.

The site reached out to the actor's reps, but they were met with a, "no comment”  response. They also reached out other industry sources who have confirmed that he "is indeed the frontrunner," and one source told them that the actor had already landed the role, saying:

"Marvel had liked him since day one."

An actor needs to be cast soon since he will first appear in Captain America: Civil War, which starts production very soon. After that, work will begin on his solo film, which is set for release on July 28th, 2017.

What do you think about Butterfield possibly playing Spider-Man?

The Science of How Daredevil Can See Without Sight

About a week ago we brought you a video from a web-series that The Nerdist distributes called Because Science with host Kyle Hill. It explained the scientific reasons behind why Tony Stark's suit doesn't kill him, and it was awesomely interesting.

They've released a new fascinating episode for us to check out that explores the science behind the badass hero Daredevil and how he can see without sight. Here's the description that they offer for it:

How does DAREDEVIL protect his neighborhood despite being blind? Kyle tells you all about echolocation and how we can all be more Daredevil-like on Because Science.

Will Jared Leto's Joker Appear in BATMAN V SUPERMAN?

0
0

Last week we got our first look at Jared Leto all decked out as the Joker for Suicide Squad. The tattooed look of the character seemed to divide fans, but I've heard reports that the photo was just a promotional shot, and that all those tattoos might not be included in the version of the Joker that wee see in the film. That photo might have been something just to get fans all worked up and talking. If that was the case, it worked.

Yesterday we heard that that Ben Affleck was spotted on the set of David Ayer's Suicide Squad leading many to believe that he will make an appearance in the film as Batman. Now it seems that Leto's Joker might first be introduced to audiences in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

The news comes from Latino Review, who seems to have some details on the story, and I will throw out a SPOILER warning just in case. Proceed with caution.

According to the report, the Joker will appear in a flashback scene in Batman v Superman, and it will show us just how the Joker ends up in prison, and it also will give us some insight into why the Batman we see in Zack Snyder’s film is such a screwed up individual.

Apparently, the flashback scene will feature the Joker beating the hell out of Robin and killing him, which comes from the 1988 Batman comic story arc "A Death In The Family," which focused on the Jason Todd version of Robin. The site says,

We will also be seeing the Jason Todd Robin costume in a glass casket somewhere on Wayne property, which would possibly trigger this flashback. Regardless of what triggers it, the complete story of how the Joker ended up behind bars at the beginning of Suicide Squad will get explicit context in less than a year.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released on March 25th, 2016. Below you'll find an image that Leto recently posted showing off his physique while wearing a Superman shirt.
