New Trailer for HBO’s SILICON VALLEY Season 2

HBO has released a second trailer for the second season of Mike Judge’s fantastically funny series Silicon Valley. The first season was such a joy to watch. I’ve really come to enjoy these characters, and I couldn’t be more excited to see them return for another great looking season.

The series is set in the “modern-day epicenter of the high-tech gold rush, where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success.”

It has a talented and amusing cast that includes Thomas Middleditch (The Campaign, The Wolf of Wall Street), T.J. Miller (Cloverfield, How to Train Your Dragon), Zach Woods (In the Loop, The Other Guys), Kumail Nanjiani (Life As We Know It, Sex Tape), Martin Starr (Party Down, Freaks and Geeks), Josh Brener (The Internship, Glory Daze), Amanda Crew (Sex Drive, Charlie St. Cloud), Matt Ross (Magic City, American Horror Story), and Jimmy O. Yang

The series comes back for a ten-episode second season starting on Sunday, April 12th at 10pm.

WAYWARD PINES Pilot Review - WonderCon 2015

Wayward Pines (or The Rock-Bottom of Matt Dillon’s Career) is a very predictable, unsatisfying piece of television drivel that the Geektyrant gang and I subjected ourselves to for no apparent reason. Wait, let me back up here. We are currently in Anaheim for WonderCon 2015 and Wayward Pines was one of the first things on our lists to check out. Wayward Pines is an upcoming “thriller” that will be hitting FX in May this year. The show stars Dillon, Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Melissa Leo, Terrance Howard, and Juliette Lewis. M. Night Shyamalan is the Executive Producer of the series and director of the pilot episode that we screened. Unfortunately, he was the draw for me. I am holding out hope that one day the genius that he displayed in the beginning of his career will reemerge. This did not happen with Wayward Pines.

The story follows Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Dillon) as he tries to track down two missing agents in the Pacific Northwest. They immediately establish that Burke has a loose grip on reality, at best. While searching for his fellow agents, Burke and his partner get into a car accident and Burke ends up in the town of Wayward Pines, Idaho.

I am going to keep this a spoiler free post, but if you have ever seen an M. Night movie, you know that not everything is what it seems. The show had a very student film feel too it. The writing, acting, and production value were sub-par. I haven’t decided which performance I disliked the most: Melissa Leo’s crazy nurse routine or Shannyn Sossamon’s portrayal of Ethan Burke’s wife, Theresa. Leo was so over the top it was distracting, and Sossamon seemed like she was having a hard time just acting like a human, let alone a character on a television show.

In the end, the worst part is not the acting, writing or the production value. It is that when the episode is all said and done, it is the disappointment that you feel when you realize that M. Night just took a story line that he had done before, shined it up, changed some names and places, then tried to shove that bitter little pill down our throats once again.

Unsettling SINISTER 2 Trailer Tease - "Warning"

During WonderCon this weekend, Blumhouse Pictures had a panel in which they surprised fans  with a little tease of their upcoming horror film, Sinister 2. This is the first footage that has been released, and now it's on line for all of you to watch. This is just to prime us for a full trailer that will be released later this week on April 9th. Stay tuned for that, because we’ll get it up on the site for you as soon as it goes live. The teaser my be brief, but it effectively offers a powerful nightmarish punch.

I really liked director Scott Derrickson’s Sinister, which starred Ethan Hawke. It ended up being pretty damn terrifying. This sequel is being directed by Ciaran Foy (Citadel) from a script written by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. Here’s the synopsis:

The sequel to the 2012 sleeper hit horror movie. In the aftermath of the shocking events in “Sinister,” a protective mother (Shannyn Sossamon of “Wayward Pines”) and her 9-year-old twin sons (real-life twins Robert and Dartanian Sloan) find themselves in a rural house marked for death as the evil spirit of Buhguul continues to spread with frightening intensity.

The movie also stars James Ransone and will be released in theaters on August 21st.

Marvel has released a new trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron that is said to be the last one before the movie is released, but we'll just have to wait and see about that. The trailer features a lot of footage that we've already seen in the first part of the trailer, but near the end the attention is shifted to Black Widow, and we are treated with some cool new footage of her helping out Captain America action as he is battling Ultron.

We'll be able to enjoy the movie in less than a month! It comes out on May 1st.

This is "sexy" Tyrion Lannister, and it's the most absurd Game of Thrones cosplay that I've ever seen. As amazing as that mask of Tyrion is, the whole concept of cosplay is amusingly disturbing. It's just so unnatural! The photo was posted on Reddit, and I came across it over on Geeks Are Sexy.

INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 Clip and Poster - "This is How you Die"

According to director Leigh Whannell and producer Jason Blum, Insidious: Chapter 3 is going to be the scariest film in the franchise. That's what they stated during a panel for the film this weekend at WonderCon, adding that James Wan (The director of the first two films) thinks the exact same thing. Apparently, when Wan and Whannell pitched the first two movies, they also pitched the idea for this third film that they’re on the verge of releasing. It's a story that they are very excited to tell.

They showed two clips from the movie during the panel, and one of them has been released online. It’s called “When You Reach Out to the Dead,” and in it a terrified Lin Shaye warns that speaking to the dead could have some frighteningly awful consequences.

The newest chapter in the terrifying horror series is written and directed by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell. This chilling prequel, set before the haunting of the Lambert family, reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.

The movie will be released in theaters on June 5th.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Says TERMINATOR: SALVATION “Sucked”

McG’s Terminator: Salvation unfortunately turned out to be a terrible movie. The fans hoped it would be good, and the director did a great job of hyping it. But, when all was said and done, it turned out to be a turd.

In case you’ve ever wondered what Arnold Schwarzenegger thought of the movie, he thanked God that he wasn’t involved with it, and said in an interview with Good Morning America that “it sucked.” The actor wasn’t able to be a part of the movie because he was busy being the governor of California.

Schwarzenegger went on to talk about the first three films in the franchise, and say that he enjoys them all for different reasons. But, he wouldn’t say which one he thinks is the best:

"I think that the three that I was in, they all three had their own personalities and interesting storylines.”

I really didn't care for Terminator 3 either. It was better than Salvation, but it still had its own issues. I’m looking forward to seeing Schwarzenegger back as a Terminator, though, in director Alan Taylor’s Terminator Genisys. I like what I’ve seen so far, and I’m sure we’ll see some more footage from the film before its released on July 1st. You can check out the interview below.

GOTHAM Season 2 Will Bring in Clayface and Mad Hatter

While I was at WonderCon this weekend I got to see the first seven minutes of the next episode of Gotham, which returns on Monday, April 13th. There’s a lot that happens within that seven minutes, and it would have been nice to actually have been able to watch the full episode, but fans were treated to a Q&A instead.

I left after the footage screened, but during that Q&A a few exciting pieces of information were revealed regarding season two. Executive Producer John Stephens talked about the new villains that will be introduced in the upcoming season, and I think you’re going to be pleasantly surprised. Here’s what he said thanks to Collider:

“We always want to walk the fine line of the reality of our world. Walking right up to that line where super-villains live. So there are a lot of characters from Batman lore that fit that bill. People like Victor Freeze – who’s a science villain. You can play a lot of his abilities without going into the world of superheroes.
“Clayface and Mad Hatter are both villains we’re going to bring in [as well]. They both have great backstories and great personalities.”

He went on to say that he’s especially excited to explore the origin of Clayface. I think it’s awesome that these characters are going to be developed in the show. I’ve always been a fan of Clayface as well, and it will be really interesting to see how he’s portrayed in the show. They might not be the only new villains that pop up though. Later on he was asked if the Court of Owls will ever make an appearance, and he replied,

“The Court of Owls is something we’ve discussed a lot. We keep digging up very close to it without quite pulling the trigger. It’s clear that there is a group of shadowy individuals that control and influence Wayne Enterprise and have great power in Gotham and may or may not be connected to Carmine Falcone. Is that The Court of Owls? Maybe… Keep watching and those questions will be answered.”

Oh, I’ll definitely keep watching! The talented people producing this series sure seem to know what they’re doing. As for Bruce Wayne’s character development in the second season, Stephen said:

“That’s one of the fun things we’re looking forward to next year. The Bruce Wayne we all know — there’s a duality to his persona. There’s ‘Batman’ and there’s ‘Bruce Wayne’. That fake playboy carefree Bruce Wayne [persona]. In season two, you’re going to start to see that ‘Bruce Wayne’ persona develop as he starts to create a public face to hide who he actually is. So we get to watch that schism take place.”

Thats going to be really interesting to see. I’m completely hooked on this series, and I couldn’t be more excited to see how this first season ends and how season two plays out.

In anticipation of the released of Mortal Kombat X next week, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released a completely ruthless launch trailer for the game that features some insane fight moments of bloody brutality.

The trailer was directed by System Of A Down’s Shavo Odadjian, and cut to their hit song "Chop Suey!" On top of the merciless fight sequences, the trailer shows off the cast of characters in the game that includes new and returning Kombatants. Make sure you watch until the end because...holy shit!

I also included another trailer that focuses on the DLC character Goro, who is making his first appearance in a Mortal Kombat game in over eight years.

Mortal Kombat X is NetherRealm Studios’ next highly-anticipated installment in its legendary, critically-acclaimed fighting game franchise that propels the iconic franchise into a new generation. The game combines cinematic presentation with all new gameplay to deliver the most brutal Kombat experience ever, offering a new fully-connected experience that launches players into a persistent online contest where every fight matters in a global battle for supremacy.
For the first time, Mortal Kombat X gives players the ability to choose from multiple variations of each character impacting both strategy and fighting style. Players step into an original story showcasing some of the game’s most prolific characters including Scorpion and Sub-Zero, while introducing new challengers that represent the forces of good and evil and tie the tale together.

Mortal Kombat X will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 14th, and for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this summer.

Watch John Oliver's Important Dick Pic Interview with Edward Snowden

$

On last night's episode of Last Week Tonight, host John Oliver ended his show with a surprise video segment in which he flew to Russia to interview Edward Snowden, the man who single-handedly blew the lid off of the story of how our government has been using illegal surveillance tactics on not only its own citizens, but pretty much whoever else they felt like spying on across the rest of the world. Snowden is a very polarizing figure — he's the subject of the Oscar-winning documentary Citizenfour, as well as Oliver Stone's upcoming movie, in which Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play him — but regardless of what you think about his actions, it's easy to see that he's an intelligent, well-spoken, genuine guy who thinks that he's doing the right thing.

Oliver's interview with him is pretty brilliant, pushing Snowden to answer for what he did while also framing the entire thing around the concept of dick pics to make it easy for the American people to understand. As he mentions multiple times, this is a complicated issue, but it's definitely a conversation that we need to be having as a country. I'm not sure the place we need to be having it is in the comments section of an entertainment website (please keep it civil), but I felt it was important to share this with all of you so we can all be better informed about what's going on right now.

David Lynch Drops Out of Showtime's New TWIN PEAKS Episodes

About six months ago, word came out that writer/director David Lynch was reteaming with Mark Frost to bring new episodes of their cult classic TV series Twin Peaks to Showtime. Actors had already signed on, fans were pumped, and it looked like this was a done deal. But now it appears that Lynch won't be involved with the new episodes after all.

I've seen a lot of speculation that this is just Lynch's way of negotiating in public. That's a tactic that's used all the time (Robert Downey Jr. is a master at it) to try to get more money or control from studios or networks, because then the creatives can point to articles like this one and the fan outcry and basically say to the executives, "Look at this reaction. There's no show/movie without me." Is that what's happening here? Well, it's not that exact scenario, because Showtime released a statement in response:

We were saddened to read David Lynch’s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points. SHOWTIME also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.

So Showtime is saying the right things in public, but you have to imagine that they're at least considering continuing the show without Lynch's involvement. They've probably put a bunch of money into these new episodes already, and since the network could definitely use a boost in terms of relevance and being a touchstone in the pop culture conversation, it might make sense for them to give Lynch what he wants and let this thing move forward as intended. But that's easy for us to say — we don't know all of the particulars.

Regardless of your feelings about his style, Lynch is one of the few guys out there who has a truly unique and distinct voice as a filmmaker and creator, and it'd be a shame if he wasn't able to return to the world he helped create. What do you think?

2 New Thrilling Trailers for Marvel’s DAREDEVIL

"Get up! Time to stop taking a beating and start giving one."

Marvel and Netflix have released two new full trailers for their highly anticipated series Daredevil, and they offer up some new fantastic action-packed footage from the show. You can watch both of them back-to-back below!

The new trailers show off lots of new footage from the series as Matt Murdock/Daredevil sets out on a mission to make "life difficult for bad men.” The baddest of these men in the story is of course Kingpin, who believes that “the city must die before it is reborn.” This is going to be an intense story to watch, and I'm really happy that we finally get to see a very dark toned Marvel production.

The series follows the journey of Murdock, "who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City."

All 13 episodes of the series will be released on Netflix on April 10th, so we don't have to wait much longer!

SUPER MARIO BROS. Opening Screen Recreated With 14,000 Toothpicks

If you grew up in the '80s and '90s and had access to video games, the opening screen of Super Mario Bros. is probably seared into your brain forever. Twitter user BitBlt_Korry decided to recreate that image in a very unusual manner: using 14,000 colored toothpicks, he made a 3D version that really pops. It's sort of surreal to see a classic video game image brought to life in the real world like that, and it's undoubtedly a cool, unique love letter to one of the most classic video games in history.

Lord and Miller Wanted For THE FLASH and a New GHOSTBUSTERS

$

Take all of this with a grain of salt, but El Mayimbe from Latino-Review and The Wrap's Jeff Sneider say that The LEGO Movie and Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are on the top of Warner Bros.' wish list to direct The Flash standalone film that's scheduled for 2018. On his podcast, Sneider also adds that Sony also wants the directing duo for a new Ghostbusters film. No deals have been made yet, and this is all early in the process, but let's break these two options down just in case one of them pans out.

First up, The Flash. Lord and Miller have been the kings of taking bad ideas and turning them into enjoyable (and even occasionally brilliant) movies. Some have said that having Ezra Miller star as Barry Allen in the film when there's already a perfectly good actor portraying the character on a popular TV show is a bad idea, so this would sort of keep the directors' streak alive. Warner Bros. and DC's Cinematic Universe appears to be extremely dark and humorless, which goes against everything Lord and Miller stand for, but if the studio really does want them for The Flash, maybe they're finally looking to embrace some of the lightheartedness and comedy in some of its superhero movies. By having creative control over this movie (they'd have to write it as well, I'd imagine), these guys could completely change the conversation about the DCCU, and that might be an appealing opportunity for them.

As for Ghostbusters, we assume that the film Sony wants them for is the recently-announced companion piece to Paul Feig's all-female Ghostbusters movie that may star Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt (and likely a few female counterparts as well — the film was initially misreported as an all-guy version). The Russo brothers were supposed to be directing that movie, but as you know, they're now attached to direct the two-part Avengers: Infinity War films, so that means that they might not have enough time to direct this Ghostbusters project after all. Enter Lord and Miller, who have worked with both Tatum (Jump Street) and Pratt (LEGO) before. This movie sounds much more in line with their sensibilities, and it's essentially still a blank slate right now with plenty of room to make this however they'd like.

If this tug of war between studios is actually happening, which would you rather see Lord and Miller direct: The Flash, or a new Ghostbusters movie?

DEADPOOL Creator Compares New Movie to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

While we sit around excited about the upcoming Deadpool movie, and anxiously wait for some new photos and footage, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld did an interview with ComicBook.com in which he discussed the upcoming R-rated movie. He compares it to Guardians of the Galaxy, and also says that it will challenge the superhero movie genre, and that Ryan Reynolds is going to own the character of Deadpool in the same way that Robert Downey Jr. owns Iron Man.

As you'll see in the following quote, Liefeld is obviously excited about the movie, and he thinks its going to be a big hit with fans.

"I'm telling you with great conviction, and great anticipation for the satisfaction everyone is going to experience, that the Deadpool film is tremendous. It’s tremendous fun. It has everything. In the same manner that Robert Downey Jr. co-opted Tony Stark/Iron Man and now seems to "own" him in that way that you can't imagine Iron Man without him, that's what will happen with Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool. The Tony Stark I grew up with wasn't as snappy and as quippy as Downey Jr. made him, but now I only think of his performance. That is what is going to happen here with Ryan and Deadpool. You can see it happening already. It's a complete ownership of a role that we are all going to rally around. This Deadpool film will establish Deadpool on a global scale. In addition to being brilliantly raucous, crazy, violent, and action packed, the Deadpool film has tremendous heart and soul. Prepare for an experience that you haven't encountered yet. It’s new template in the way that Guardians of the Galaxy established a new tone for the franchise. Deadpool will do the same."

We got our first glimpse of Reynolds as Deadpool in action in a April Fools' Day video that was released by the studio last week. The character was perfectly portrayed in the video as he kills Mario Lopez by smashing a chair over his head, and exclaims, “Don’t worry Jesse, he can’t hurt you anymore.”

Deadpool is currently in production, and it hits theaters on February 12th, 2016.
