Cool Video Recaps MAD MEN Through Don Draper's Social Media Profiles

AMC's Mad Men returns to TV this Sunday night to begin its final run of episodes before the series finale. The saga of advertising executive Don Draper (Jon Hamm) has evolved into a larger story with the supporting players becoming arguably as important as Don himself, and the series has continued to be one of the most critically acclaimed shows on television.

For those who are looking for a cursory refresher of the major events of the series before tuning in this weekend, Vanity Fair has a cool video that essentially recaps the show through modern social media profiles for Don Draper, with Betty (January Jones) commenting on his Facebook statuses and a look at some pretty funny references to the crazy antics of Roger Sterling (John Slattery). Watch it below:

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST's "Rogue Cut" Will Have More Than 17 Extra Minutes

One of the criticisms I saw of Bryan Singer's excellent X-Men: Days of Future Past last year was that there was simply too much going on. Multiple timelines were being handled at once, and with a cast that included a ton of actors from the first three X-films as well as the newer members from X-Men: First Class, there were some people who were lucky to get five minutes of screen time in the final movie. Anna Paquin's Rogue was one of those characters, and at one point Singer even said that he was going to cut her out of the final film (I could have sworn she still appeared in the theatrical cut, but very briefly).

Yesterday, Singer took to Twitter to let fans know what to expect in the upcoming director's cut:

From everything we've heard about this from Singer and producer Simon Kinberg, the Rogue subplot sounds like a cool addition that they simply didn't have time to include in the theatrical version. I'm looking forward to checking it out when the "Rogue cut" is eventually released, although there's no date set in stone for that as of now other than the vague time frame of sometime this summer.

New Supercut Highlights the Best of Pixar Animation

Editor Casper Langbak from CLS Videos sent over this awesome supercut that celebrates some of the most gorgeous and thrilling scenes from Pixar Animation. It's a nicely edited piece that takes us through the history of every Pixar from Toy Story all the way through 2013's Monsters University, and it even includes some footage from the upcoming Inside Out, which hits theaters this summer (and looks phenomenal, by the way). I like the music from the first half of the supercut better than the second, but it's still a moving tribute to some of the best films of the past twenty years.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON — Ulysses Klaw and Tony Stark's Connection Revealed

Andy Serkis' villainous character Ulysses Klaw will be introduced in Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron and it sounds like his role is going to play a bigger part in the Marvel cinematic universe than some of you originally thought.

Marvel has a new press release that offers up some information on the characters in the film. Everything included in it is pretty standard stuff, but then there was this new description regarding Ulysses Klaw that stuck out:

A black-market arms dealer, smuggler and gangster operating out of South Africa. He is a former acquaintance of Tony Stark’s from his weapons-dealing days and a powerful new player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

So not only is his connection to Tony Stark revealed, but he's also going to end up being a "powerful" player in the MCU. So I guess we can expect him to show up again somewhere down line in other Marvel films. One of those I'm sure will be Black Panther's solo movie.

The character is somewhat cut from the same cloth as Stark only he's much more sinister. He is a brilliant scientist that invents awesome breakthrough technology. There's fan speculation that suggests Klaw’s involvement in Age of Ultron will be directly connected to the resource vibranium. He needs it to help fuel his technology. In case you didn't know, vibranium is the same metal that Captain America’s shield is made out of.

There's also a good chance that Ultron wants vibranium as well so that he could use it to make his robotic body virtually indestructible. Maybe Ultron obtains Klaw’s contact info from Stark’s contacts list.

I'm excited to see Serkis in this role. He looks great in the shots that we've seen of him in the trailers, and it seems like he fits the character perfectly.

Easter Egg-Filled INDIANA JONES Art — "The Desk of Dr. Jones"

This is one of the coolest pieces of Indiana Jones fan art I've seen in a long time. Artist Robert Loukotka — who made a similar Iron Man-themed piece called The Desk of Mr. Stark — is back with the latest in his "desk" series, this time taking a look at the office of Dr. Henry Jones, Jr. There are a ton of Easter eggs to be found in this piece, even if they don't always align with the established canon of the character. I'll let Loukotka explain:

Few movies (or trilogies) are as rich in detail and beautiful objects as the Indiana Jones trilogy. (This poster assumes Crystal Skull was never made, and that there are only three Indiana Jones films. Because duh.)
The illuminated golden fertility idol from Raiders of the Lost Ark, the sacred stones from Temple of Doom, the Holy F***ing Grail from The Last Crusade. The magnitude of amazing objects in these films is second to none. I realized this as I was taking notes to build my drawing list, and I could not stop. This unofficial kind-of-a-movie poster packs over 40 items from the films into one scene.
Like my previous (and future) Famous Desk Posters, this illustration is anachronistic. Not only does Indy’s desk have items from all three films, he straight up has things that do not belong on his desk. The holy grail, the sacred stone, I put an actual bazooka from Raiders on his wall. The items are accurate, but please excuse the blatant mish mash of the canon. Haha. This is meant to be a collection of gorgeous objects, so a lot of artistic liberties were taken.

The Ending of The Horror Film IT FOLLOWS Explained by Director

$

I loved the concept behind the horror movie It Follows, but I wasn’t a big fan of how it was executed — especially the second half of the movie. After it started blowing up in theaters, and more and more people were talking about how much they loved it, I decided to go and see it again to see if I missed something the first time around: Nope. I still feel the same way about it. Regardless of what I think, though, the indie film is a hit with audiences and the buzz is growing.

For those of you who have seen the film and want an explanation of the ending of the movie, the director, David Robert Mitchell, offers it up in an interview with Vulture. If you haven’t seen the film, then you should know that there are SPOILERS ahead.

As I explained in my full Sundance Film Festival review, the movie "literally revolves around a sexually transmitted demon that follows the people who it becomes attached to, and its purpose is to kill them. The demon can look like anyone, and it just slowly walks and follows the person it's attached to." The climax of the film includes Jay (Maika Monroe) and the other characters banding together to attempt to rid herself from the demonic curse that haunts her. They come up with a ridiculously stupid plan to electrocute the demon in a local pool. The director even admits that it’s a stupid plan in his explanation of the ending:

“It’s the stupidest plan ever! It’s a kid-movie plan, it’s something that Scooby-Doo and the gang might think of, and that was sort of the point. What would you do if you were confronted by a monster and found yourself trapped within a nightmare? Ultimately, you have to resort to some way of fighting it that’s accessible to you in the physical world, and that’s not really going to cut it. We kind of avoid any kind of traditional setup for that sequence, because in more traditional horror films, there might be a clue that would lead them to figure out a way to destroy this monster. I intentionally avoided placing those. Instead, they do their best to accomplish something, and we witness its failure. It’s probably a very non-conventional way of approaching the third-act confrontation, but we thought it was a fun way to deal with it.”

In the final shot of the film, Jay and Paul are walking down the street holding hands, with someone walking behind them, that we all assume is the demon. In regards to that scene, the director says,

“We had a couple variations on it — I think we had some where he was really far back, and then some where no one would ever miss him — but we settled on the one where he’s there, but not too close. It allows people to make up their own mind of what it means.”

Meh. It’s pretty obvious what it means. They'll just continue to pass the demon back and fourth to each other from having sex, and deal with evading it together. That is, until the day they get in a major fight with each other, and one of them just decides to let the demon kill the other.

Potential STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE Actor on His Love for the Franchise

Ben Mendelsohn is reportedly in line to take on a role in Gareth EdwardsStar Wars: Rogue One. This guy is an incredibly talented actor. I just watched the Netflix series he starred in called Bloodline, which was intense as hell! He also starred alongside Ryan Reynolds in an indie film that I saw at Sundance called Mississippi Grind.

I really hope he iscast in Rogue One, because he’ll bring a lot of weight to whatever character he plays. EW caught up with the actor and asked about his involvement with the film. Here's what he said:

"I’m absolutely not sure about any of this at all. It sounds great, and certainly — Wouldn’t that be nice?"

It would be nice! While he plays coy about being involved with the movie, he did talk about his love for the franchise. He was asked about the original trilogy, and if it was a touchstone for him growing up, and this was his reply:

"Enormous. Enormous! I mean, enormous! I’m the kid who had the whole set of trading cards. Enormous! I mean, I was born in 1969. The first one comes out in what, ‘77? The first Star Wars film was an enormously important. I grew up right smack-bang in the sweet spot of all of those. It’s true cinema magic. It’s fair to say that as a kid I would have been very happy to be Han Solo, and I would have been happy to have gone out with Princess Leia. If I could have had Chewie at my side through some difficult times, forget about it."

It will be great to see him in the movie if he’s actually cast. It’s set to be released on December 16th, 2016.

DOCTOR WHO Art Series Drawn on Starbucks Coffee Sleeves

Here’s a set of Doctor Who fan art that was drawn on Starbucks coffee cup sleeves by an artist that goes by the name of Kahahuna. Each one features one of the 12 Doctors who have been in the series over the years, except for the War Doctor. But there is a portrait of a Dalek thrown in there. This is a note from the artist:

These are hand-drawn Doctors …on up-cycled Starbucks cup sleeves. I got the idea while I was at work (I work at Starbucks) and randomly handing out drinks with decorated sleeves to my customers. They loved the idea so much that I decided to put my own love of Doctor Who into colored pencil. These are made on recycled cardboard sleeves that would otherwise have been thrown away. Each sleeve has been sprayed with a matte fixative to keep the pencil in place. I have priced these at $12 each and shipping is included for the set. (within the US) I’m not selling these particular pieces individually at this time.

The sleeves are sold in sets of 4 via the Kahahuna Shop on Etsy. To see some previously posted Starkbucks coffee cup art with superheroes, click here

A Major Character Is Set to Return for THE RING Sequel, RINGS

$

I’m actually kind of excited for the upcoming sequel to The Ring. We previously reported that it would be a prequel, but that’s not the case at all. Rings is indeed a sequel, and there’s a big character from the first two films who will play a major role in the story.

The following information comes from STYD, and it does contain SPOILERS:

The character Aidan Keller, who was played by David Dorfman in previous movies, will be back. In case you don’t remember, he’s the son of Naomi Watts’ Rachel Keller. According to this new report, he will tie into the plot of the new movie, and will obviously appear as an adult. There’s no word yet on if Dorfman will reprise the role himself, but it would be kind of cool if he did.

Rings is currently in production. It takes place 13 years after the first film and stars Alex Roe as Holt, who is described as a young man who begins to become distant from his girlfriend (Matilda Lutz) after watching the infamous deadly videotape the horror franchise is known for. There are no other details on the movie.

It’s being directed by F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall), from a script by Academy Award-winning writer Akiva Goldsman. It would be great if it turned out being just as scary as the previous films.

Rings is set to be released on November 13th, 2015.

Trailer for Jack Black and James Marsden’s THE D TRAIN

Jack Black and James Marsden’s upcoming comedy The D Train was actually one of the more entertaining movies that I saw at Sundance this year. The first trailer has been released for the film, which tells the story of a loser named Dan Landsman (Black), who thinks he can be accepted by the “cool” club if he can convince the most popular guy from high school to come to their high school class reunion. In the process of accomplishing this feat, comedic and surprising insanity ensues.

All his life, Dan Landsman (Jack Black) has never been the cool guy. That’s about to change – if he can convince Oliver Lawless (Marsden), the most popular guy from his high school who’s now the face of a national Banana Boat ad campaign, to show up with him to their class reunion. A man on a mission, Dan travels from Pittsburgh to LA and spins a web of lies to recruit Lawless. But he gets more than he bargains for as the unpredictable Lawless proceeds to take over his home, career, and entire life. Showcasing Jack Black and James Marden’s most outrageous performances to date, THE D TRAIN serves up the question: how far would you go to be popular? Co-starring Kathryn Hahn and Jeffrey Tambor.

It was really a great dark comedy that I think many of you would enjoy. You can read our full review for it here. The movie is set to be released on May 8th, 2015

HEROES REBORN - Masi Oka Returns as Hiro Nakamura

As Heroes Reborn prepares to start shooting, we’ve learned that another original cast member will return to the franchise. NBC has announced that Masi Oka will reprise his role as time-traveler and teleporter Hiro Nakamura. He is the second original cast member to jump back in on the fun. Jack Coleman is also set to come back on as Noah Bennet.

Oka was a regular cast member on the original four seasons of the show, and he was a favorite character among fans. But in this limited series he will only have a guest-starring story arc. The actor had this to say about returning to the franchise in a statement:

“I’m excited to return to my Heroes roots. Hiro Nakamura was such an inspirational role to play, and I’m hoping the fans will enjoy seeing him back on TV.”

Series creator/executive producer Tim Kring added:

“We are thrilled to have Masi back in the Heroes family. The character of Hiro Nakamura was such a huge part of the first series’ success, and a gigantic fan favorite. We felt the fans would really love seeing him back in action again.”

It will definitely be fun to see Hiro make an appearance, even if he doesn’t play as big a part in the story as he did the first time around. I’m sure he’ll still have a pivotal role in what happens in the story.

Heroes Reborn also stars Zachary Levi, Ryan Guzman, Robbie Kay, Danika Yarosh, Judith Shekoni, Kiki Sukezane, Henry Zebrowski, and Gatlin Green. Peter Elkoff and James Middleton join Kring as executive producers, and Matt Shakman will direct the first episode.

Specific plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but here’s the official description:

The saga behind the 2006 breakout series Heroes will continue as creator Tim Kring returns to the fold and develops new layers to his original superhero concept. This highly anticipated 13-episode miniseries will reconnect with the basic elements of the show’s first season where ordinary people were waking up to the fact that they had extraordinary abilities.

The series will debut this fall.

Paul Blart Gets Some FAST & FURIOUS Action in New Promo

A funny new promo trailer has been released for Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, and in it we see Kevin James’ Blart character enter the world of Fast & Furious. The trailer is called "2 Blart 2 Furious," and it might be the most entertaining thing that I’ve seen from this franchise — that’s not saying much, though.

This weekend, we know things are going to get very furious very fast… but let’s face it: a street race is dangerous business. Especially when it takes place in a mall parking lot. When safety calls, only one man has the confidence, the enthusiasm, the can-do spirit, and the tools to keep America safe. And that man’s name is Blart.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 comes out on April 17th.

Mark Wahlberg Developing Boston Marathon Bombing Movie

There are currently two movies in the works about The Boston Marathon bombings. 20th Century Fox has begun work on a film called Boston Strong, with Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) directing. CBS Films has also recently announced that they will be making a movie called Patriots' Day, which comes from screenwriter Matt Chapman (Bridge of Spies) and will be produced by Mark Wahlberg and Scott Stuber.

Patriots' Day is based on the personal account of Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, and the studio has secured Davis' life rights to tell the story. Wahlberg will most likely come on board to play the character. According to the press release:

“Commissioner Davis played an integral role in working with the FBI, Watertown Police Department, Boston Police Department, Massachusetts State Police and local first responders to track, identify and apprehend the suspected bombers. Their tactics included the use of sophisticated identity technology and giving the historic order to put the city of Boston under lockdown as they rushed to apprehend the suspects.”

CBS Films president Terry Press added:

“There is nothing more compelling than a real story populated by real heroes. The team that we have assembled for this project is determined to give audiences a very personal look at what occurred during the days when the eyes of the world were on the city of Boston and how a group of contemporary patriots faced this crisis.”

There’s no director attached to the project yet, but it seems like a film that Wahlberg will put his heart into.

METAL GEAR SOLID Movie Finds a Writer

Sony Pictures has hired Jay Basu to write the script for their live-action adaptation of the hit video game franchise Metal Gear Solid. Basu is an up-and-coming writer, who is also working with Universal Pictures to help develop new films based on their classic movie monsters. He also co-wrote Monsters: Dark Continent

I’d like to think that Metal Gear Solid has a really good chance of being a great film, especially with The Kings of Summer director Jordan Vogt-Roberts at the helm. The guy seems like a talented storyteller, who seems to have a knack for solid character development, which is exactly what Solid Snake needs.

This is a great gig for both Vogt-Roberts and Basu, who are two young filmmakers that are still trying to prove themselves in Hollywood. I hope they use this opportunity to give us fans a movie that we can be excited about. They will be developing the feature under the guidance of producers Avi and Ari Arad (Spider-Man, Daredevil).

Metal Gear Solid was created by Hideo Kojima, and the game became popular on the PlayStation when it was released back in 1998. It follows Solid Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from Foxhound, a renegade special forces unit. Snake must liberate two hostages — one the president of a major arms manufacturer — confront the terrorists, and stop them from launching a nuclear strike.

The latest TV spot for Jurassic World offers up new footage from the film that teases some of the chaos that is in store. I imagine that it’s not the best idea to genetically modify dinosaurs, but the scientists of Jurassic World obviously couldn’t help themselves. In this spot, Chris Pratt’s character points out that the new dino is killing for sport, and you get to see a few more glimpses of it in action!

Steven Spielberg returns to executive produce the long-awaited next installment of his groundbreaking Jurassic Park series, Jurassic World. Colin Trevorrow directs the epic action-adventure based on the novel “Jurassic Park” by Michael Crichton

G.I. JOE 3 Nabs a New Screenwriter

Paramount Pictures has hired a new screenwriter to pen the script for director D.J. Caruso’s G.I. Joe 3. The new writer’s name is Aaron Berg, and he is the writer behind a spec script called Section 6, which details the origins of the British intelligence agency MI6. Apparently that spec helped Berg become a hot commodity in Hollywood.

According to THR, the studio is hoping to turn the franchise around with the new talent they have on board to develop this film. Fans of the franchise haven’t been too happy with what the studio delivered so far with the first two movies.

I personally think that the film franchise is beyond saving with the way Paramount is handling it. I think the only way to turn things around would be to wait three or four years and then start fresh and reboot the franchise with talented filmmakers who know what they’re doing.

The fact that they’re still dragging out what they started just doesn’t make sense to me. As much as I’ve enjoyed some of the films that Caruso has made, I’m not very hopeful that this third G.I. Joe movie will be any good.

Intense Trailer for the Chilean Miner Movie - THE 33

The first trailer has been released for The 33, which is based on the true life events of the 33 miners who were trapped in a mine in Copiapó Chile five years ago. A lot of people were glued to the TV, waiting to see what would happen to these poor guys, and now we get to live it all over again in the form of a movie.

The story is set over the course of the 69 days that the men were waiting to be rescued while they sat 2,300 feet underground. It shows what is happening both above and below the ground.

The movie features a solid cast of actors that includes Antonio Banderas, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Juan Pablo Raba. They play the miners Mario Sepúlveda, Luis Urzua, and Darío Segovia, respectively. It also stars Rodrigo Santoro as the Chilean Minister of Mining, Laurence Golborne; Gabriel Byrne as the engineer who leads the rescue mission, Andre Sougarret; and Juliette Binoche plays María Segovia, the sister of Darío.

The film was directed by Patricia Riggen, and even though we already know the outcome of the story, it still looks like there’s going to be enough drama and tension to keep audiences on the edge of their seat.

There’s no U.S. release date yet, but it will open up in Chile on August 6th.
