Sam Raimi in Talks To Direct POLTERGEIST Remake

A remake of the classic film Poltergeist has been in the works for a few years. At one point the movie was actually given a release date that has since come and gone. The last thing we heard is that screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole) might be writing the film. Things have been pretty quiet since. But today we've learned that director Sam Raimi is in talks to direct the movie!

Look, Poltergeist is one of those films that I don't want to see get remade. When I first saw that Raimi was in talks to direct it I was both hit with sadness and joy. I know he would make a great Poltergeist movie! I just wish it didn't have to be a remake of the Toby Hooper and Steven Spielberg classic. This is some crazy bittersweet news. But, if the studio is going to move on making the film with or without Raimi attached, I have to say I'd rather see Raimi do it than someone else.

The news came from MGM CEO Roger Birnbaum, as reported by Movies.com. This is far from a done deal and nothing is set in stone, but I think there's a good chance he could end up directing, and if he doesn't direct, maybe he'll stay on as a producer. If it does happen it's not going to happen anytime soon. Raimi is currently directing OZ, The Great and Powerful, and hopefully after that he'll start production of his World of Warcraft movie.

What do you think about the possibility of Raimi directing the Poltergeist remake?

Niel Gaiman's THE GRAVEYARD BOOK To Be Adapted by Disney

Disney has confirmed that they have acquired the rights to Niel Gaiman's young adult book The Graveyard Book, and they will adapt it into a feature film. I'm actually reading this book right now with my kids, and so far, it's really good. It will definitely make for a solid movie, and Disney seems like the right place for it to be.

The Graveyard Book is a dark tale that tells of the last surviving child of a murdered family who is raised by ghosts in a graveyard.

When the book was first released, UK effects house Framestore nabbed the rights to the novel and set The Crying Game director Neil Jordan to develop it. Obviously, the movie never got off the ground even though they kept renewing the rights. In the end Disney beat out a lot of other studios that wanted to take it on. There's no word on whether Jordan will still be directing the project, but the studio is making it a priority. This would make for a great project for Tim Burton to take on, but he's got a pretty busy schedule.

Who would you like to see direct this movie?

Here is a little description of the story for those who haven't read it yet.

Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead. There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy-an ancient Indigo Man beneath the hill, a gateway to a desert leading to an abandoned city of ghouls, the strange and terrible menace of the Sleer. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from the man Jack—who has already killed Bod's family. . . .

Here's a few new images of Johnny Depp's Tonto on the set of Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger. I have no idea what to expect from this movie. I hope it's good! It's got a talented team developing it, and I love a good western. But for some reason, I don't think this is going to be the kind of movie we're expecting. Are you looking forward to this movie? Disney thinks Depp is going to bring in some major box office dollars, but will you go see it just because Depp is in it?

Universal Developing a Sequel to SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN

Universal Pictures must have confidence that Rupert Sanders' Snow White and the Huntsman will be a hit, because they are ready to jump in and get to work on a sequel as soon as they can. They are already in discussions with Men in Black III screenwriter David Koepp to write the script. The reason they want to jump on it so fast is so that Sanders can make it his next directing project.

The movie doesn't come out until June 1st, but I suspect it will end up doing very well. It's got a great cast, and it doesn't hurt that the film looks awesome! I'm excited to see the movie, and it will be interesting to see what kind of plans they have cooking up for a sequel.

There's always a chance that it won't happen. The movie could end up bombing at the box office, but I don't think that will be the case. What do you think about Universal planning a sequel to their action-packed version of Snow White?

The film stars Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Charlize Theron as the queen, and Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman. Sam Claflin, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Stephen Graham, Ray Winstone, Lily Cole, Sam Spruell, Liberty Ross, and Noah Huntley.

Heres the Synopsis for the upcoming film:

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

PIRANHA 3DD - New Revised Trailer with More Hasselhoff

Dimension Films has released a new "revised" trailer for their upcoming bloody big boob feeding frenzy film Piranha 3DD. The trailer has got a few new clips in it, some of which include more David Hasselhoff, which I'm sure is the main selling point of this movie for most of you. You all know what kind of movie you're going to get from this. So if you had a good time watching the first film, then you should enjoy the sequel, as it looks like it's going to be even more over the top.

The movie was directed by John Gulager and stars Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, Clu Gulager, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, and Paul Scheer.

The Piranha horde will be released in theaters on June 1st, 2012.

Here's the Synopsis:

Having awoken from their spring break extravaganza at Lake Victoria, the swarm heads upstream where they look to make a meal out of Big Wet, a local water park where when it comes to fun, nobody does it wetter! Thought they came to get wet, get loaded and get some, the staff and patrons get more than they bargained for when they must face the fiercest, most bloodthirsty piranhas yet. Lead by the strong-willed, studious Maddy and her friends, Barry and Kyle, the trio must dive in and take on these man-eating creatures using every ounce of their being...but can they be stopped?

IRON MAN 3 Movie Details - Tony Stark will be Isolated

We've got some interestingly cool Iron Man 3 movie details to share with you! Empire recently sat down with Marvel President Kevin Feige for a podcast, and during that interview he started talking about Iron Man 3 and offered some insight into what direction they're taking the story. He makes it very clear that the main goal of the story is to isolate Tony Stark so that he can't call for help from his Avengers team. Here's Feige's explination...

So Iron Man 3 has been structured specifically to be the antidote to The Avengers... Circumstances in the story separate Tony from having access to anything.

We wanted to take Tony back to, metaphorically speaking, the cave from Iron Man, the first half of Iron Man, when he's cut off from the world and needs just focus on his intellects to get himself out of his situation.

So he's not calling Thor, he's not calling Captain America, he can't press a special button to have the helicarrier come rescue him, so I think that'll be a nice complement to the team up of Avengers.

I was wondering how that might address the Avengers team situation, and cutting Stark off from them is the perfect solution to make the story just about Iron Man. It's a little weird that Jon Favreau wont be back to direct the movie, but I'm excited about Shane Black taking it on, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he's going to deliver to the fans.

What do you think this Iron Man isolation concept that they are building the Iron Man 3 stoy around?

Guillermo del Toro to Co-Write Hotel Murder Film THE BLOODY BENDERS

$

Guillermo del Toro, one of the busiest men in Hollywood, has just added another film to his plate. The director of the upcoming monster/action film Pacific Rim will co-write a movie called The Bloody Benders with Adam Robitel, who wrote the project on spec.

Those who remember the lyrics to the Eagles' classic song "Hotel California" may find this project especially interesting, since it involves a real-life Kansas hotel in which 20 guests (begin Eagles quote) "could check out any time [they] liked, but [they] could never leave." Why couldn't they leave, you ask? Because they were murdered by the Bender family, owners of the hotel back in the 1870s. Del Toro was drawn to the story because of its unique time in American history, when expansion was the name of the game and communication on the westward lines would often take weeks to make it back to civilization.

Del Toro isn't planning on directing the movie, but he'll polish up the script with Robitel before they get it into production. Deadline broke the story, and peg this as a set-up project for At The Mountains of Madness, the expansive horror thriller del Toro wanted to make with Universal and Tom Cruise before it fell apart due to concerns it would end up with an R rating. A company called Angryfilms is backing that project with del Toro, and they're also involved with The Bloody Benders. Frankly, I'm down to sit through whatever del Toro has to do in order to get At The Mountains of Madness made, because if he's able to achieve his full vision for that movie, it's going to be incredible.

Do you like the concept of The Bloody Benders? Who do you think would be a good pick to direct it?

RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Sequel Hopes to Hit Theaters in Summer 2014

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was one of the biggest and best movie surprises of the year for me. Despite some godawful trailers, director Rupert Wyatt was able to provide a thrilling and personal story that put the apes (and WETA's visual effects) in the foreground. Whispers of a sequel have danced through the internets since the film's release, but in a recent interview with Fox head Tom Rothman, Collider was able to confirm its development and revealed their target release date.

I loved Rise of the Planet of the Apes.  What’s the status of the sequel?

Rothman: That’s very much on the tracks.  We’re developing a script.  Rupert Wyatt, who directed the first one, will direct the second one.  We’re pushing forward aggressively, so the script’s being written now.

Do you have an idea of a time frame you’d like to release it?

Rothman: Yeah, I think it would make sense if we can, you know we serve no wine before it’s time, but the goal for us would be summer of 2014, if that’s possible.

I find it refreshing that Rothman isn't rushing things on this movie. Far too often, we see studios setting release dates for tentpole films before scripts are even written, and we've seen a lot of examples (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Pirates 2 and 3) where that tactic has come back to bite them in the ass because the finished product feels sloppy. I've gotta admit: as a whole, I haven't been too impressed with Rothman's greenlight choices at Fox over the past few years...but if he continues to make smart decisions like this one, then I'm sure he'll turn things around quickly.

Do you want to see a sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes?

Could Leonard Nimoy be in the STAR TREK sequel?

$

Leonard Nimoy was in the middle of making his final scene in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek. He knew not only would this be his last scene in the film, but also his last as his universally beloved character Spock. The scene as shot was Spock simply overlooking young Kirk's promotion to Captain of the USS Enterprise. He was then to simply walk away, without a word. Nimoy asked for one last take to try out something. Abrams obliged and, as cameras rolled, Nimoy smiled at the sight (to be added below him later) and said, "Thrusters on full." Months later in the editing process, Abrams called Nimoy back and was thrilled to tell him how well the line had led into the final scene of the film with Sulu starting up the Enterprise's thrusters. When asked about the line, Nimoy simply said it was his way of telling the new cast, "Go ahead. Take the torch and go!"

Leonard Nimoy Actor Leonard Nimoy arrives at the Premiere Of Paramount's "Star Trek" on April 30, 2009 at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, Hollywood, California. (Photo by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images) *** Local Caption *** Leonard Nimoy

Months after the film's release, Nimoy announced his retirement. However, it does not seem like he's been sticking much to it, by voicing roles in Land of the Lost, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and The Big Bang Theory. But the one thing that he has been adamant about is not returning to play Spock. He felt that Zachary Quinto was so well cast as the young Spock that there was no need for him to return. Even George Takei, the series' original Sulu, has said there is no need for any of the original actors to return in the new movie series. However, from the sound of recent comments, it looks like Nimoy might still make a return to the final frontier.

Fittingly, Nimoy attended the landing of the Space Shuttle Enterprise in New York. CNN, covering the event, recieved the opportunity to interview the man welcoming home the real-world namesake of his starship. Of course, the question of appearing in the next Star Trek sequel came up. But rather than saying a flat-out "No", Nimoy apparently replied, "We're talking. We're talking." He had visited the set of the new Star Trek film, so maybe Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman have found a way to bring the most famous Vulcan back in a way that pleases Nimoy. One thread that was left open from the last film was the beginnings of a new Vulcan colony. Spock Prime (Nimoy) encouraged young Spock (Quinto) to remain in Starfleet so he could go and help recolonize the Vulcans. Perhaps we will see Spock Prime in the middle of this process? We can only wait until May 17th, 2013. The new Star Trek sequel will feature Chris Pine, Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin and Bruce Greenwood reprising their roles with Alice Eve and Peter Weller joining them. Do you think Nimoy will return or is he merely teasing us?

DAREDEVIL Reboot Getting Rewrite From David James Kelly

David Slade's (30 Days of Night, Twilight: Eclipse) reboot of 20th Century Fox's Daredevil has found a new writer. Deadline reports that David James Kelly has been tapped to rewrite the script, his first big writing gig. The studio is reportedly basing the screenplay off of Frank Miller/David Mazzucchelli's story arc Born Again, "as The Kingpin uncovers the superhero’s secret identity, and uses it to turn blind lawyer Matt Murdoch’s life upside down."

Fox has another cool superhero reboot in the works for Fantastic Four from Chronicle helmer Josh Trank. It will be interesting to see how a newcomer like David James Kelly brings a fresh perspective to the story. I am not sure if there is really a need to reboot Daredevil, but am interested to see how it turns out.

Star Wars-themed Land To Open in Disneyland Paris in 2015?

$

When Disney announced that James Cameron had agreed to help develop "Avatarland", fans were divided. While the diehard Avatar fans were thrilled that Disney's Imagineers were going to bring the world of Pandora to life, there were others who were less than pleased. Some even questioned why join up with Cameron when they already had a franchise cash-cow to deal with: Star Wars. In 2010, Disney relaunched their Star Wars-themed attraction, "Star Tours" into "Star Tours: The Adventure Continues" featuring Anthony Daniels reprising his role as C-3PO in the middle of an all-new 3D adventure. Fans were overjoyed. But what if Disney put their resources into building a full-length Star Wars-themed environment for one of their parks? It could be sooner than you think, but not where you might expect...

That's right! Disneyland Paris! Apparently, some Imagineers have revealed plans for a "more expansive Star Wars experience including a Jedi Academy and possibly an eatery that looks like Mos Eisley Cantina". This would also replace another Lucasfilm attraction at Disneyland Paris, the George Lucas-produced Francis Ford Coppola film "Captain EO", starring Michael Jackson. Apparently, Disneyland Paris is now the only place in the world with the original 1987 "Star Tours" attraction. This upgrade would retire the old attraction with the new version and set up the expanded experience.

It's the rest of the world that gets all the cool Disney rides and attractions! Supposedly, a TRON: Legacy-themed roller coaster and a Marvel-themed land are going to be put into Shanghai Disneyland as well! Would you make the trip halfway around the world just to get closer to that galaxy far, far away?

Actress Michelle Rodriguez has officially signed on to return to two film franchises she's very familiar with, Fast and Furious 6 and Robert Rodriguez's Machete Kills. It's no surprise that she'll be back in these films. Well, it's kind of a surprise with Fast and Furious as her character was believed to have been killed off until the end credits scene in the last movie showed us that she wasn't.

She will be joining Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson who are all confirmed for the sixth installment of the franchise. I suspect we'll see a few other familiar faces as well. Haywire's Gina Carano is also in talks to join the movie as part of Johnson's squad. The next film will be a heist film and is set to shoot in Europe this June.

Machete Kills will start shooting in Taxas very soon. She will once again join Danny Trejo who teams up with the U.S. Government to take on a Mexican drug cartel and a villain who wants to take over the world with a satellite weapon.

Fast and Furious 6 is scheduled for release on May 24th, 2013, and Machete Kills' release date is to be determined.

BATTLESHIP - Six New Film Clips

$

Universal Pictures has released five new film clips for Battleship! The clips feature some cool action, a look at some of the characters, and more insights into the story. I'm actually kind of excited to see this movie, it probably won't blow me away, or even come close to what The Avengers is, but it should still provide some fun entertainment. I'm definitely feeling a lack of enthusiasm for it from a lot of people though, which is probably one of the reasons why the studio is unleashing a bunch of clips. They are trying to win you over!

I know one of the main reasons I was turned off by it at first is that it had nothing to do with the boardgame, which is something I was hoping I would be able to connect with the film with. They then added an alien threat to it. Since then I've looked beyond it, and I'm willing to accept the film for what it is and give it a chance.

The movie comes out on May 18th. What are some of the reasons you are or are not looking forward to this movie?

Here's one from MTV
