Vin Diesel Provides RIDDICK Sequel Updates

$
0
0

Ain't It Cool News points out an interesting update on Vin Diesel's Facebook page regarding his upcoming Riddick movie...or should I say, "movies"?

Diesel and writer/director David Twohy recently wrapped production on the newest Riddick film (see a photo here), and Diesel sent the following message out to his fans:

The studio said the earliest they could release the new "Riddick" is in January... was hoping for 2012... but, it's on the horizon.

/smile

P.s. I think they are liking what they are seeing... haha, cause they asked when both Underverse and Furya would be ready to make and release... haha... now that's a ways in the future but it is exciting.

Fans will probably be a bit bummed that they'll have to wait until 2013 to see this movie, but at least they're planning a January release instead of dropping it back later in the year. If Diesel is being serious here (which isn't clear, based on his constant use of "haha" in this message), then this is the first we've heard that the studio is actually interested in continuing the saga further than this upcoming film.

AICN did some digging and found that "Underverse" is a promised land for the Necromongers, the celestial people Riddick fought in the second film. "Furya" is Riddick's home planet, a dark, dead place with a violent landscape after the Necromongers killed most of the Furyans in an epic battle. Interesting...it seems that Twohy and Diesel still have a LOT of story to tell in this universe, but it remains to be seen whether studios (and audiences) will shell out enough cash to make that happen.

I saw Pitch Black and wasn't too impressed, but I still haven't visited Chronicles of Riddick. Are you looking forward to seeing this newest Riddick movie, and do you think you'll be wanting more from newer sequels after that?

New DARK SHADOWS Featurette Highlights The Collins Family

Warner Bros. has released a brand new featurette for Tim Burton's upcoming vampire comedy Dark Shadows, which hits theaters on May 11th, 2012. In the video (courtesy of Yahoo!), we get a peek at the dysfunctional Collins family, the kooky servant Willie (played by Jackie Earle Haley), and Tim Burton suggests that Eva Green might actually be a witch. Take a look below!

I'm pretty lukewarm about this film, but I actually really like that last gag we see about Barnabas (Johnny Depp) being trapped in the coffin. Are you looking forward to Dark Shadows?

Luke Evans to Play Villain in FAST AND FURIOUS 6

Immortals star Luke Evans has been offered the role of the main villain in director Justin Lin's Fast and Furious 6. This is the same role that they wanted Jason Statham to play, but because he couldn't do it they moved on to Evans who is also a pretty solid choice. Sure, he's no Statham, but I think he'll end up doing fine in the role if he ends up accepting the offer. The actor can currently be seen in The Raven, and he also has a role in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, which comes out later this year.

Evans would join Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriquez and possibly Gina Carano in "their most dangerous adventure yet" which is going to be a heist film.

New LOVELACE Poster Features Amanda Seyfried in Porn Star Biopic

Thanks to Latino-Review, we've got a brand new poster for the upcoming porn star biopic, Lovelace. The film stars Amanda Seyfried as Linda Lovelace, the actress who rose to fame for her performance in the 1972 hardcore porn film Deep Throat. Coerced into the industry by her husband, Lovelace eventually got out of the porn business and became an advocate against pornography.

Seyfried looks almost unrecognizable on this poster, not so much because of the brown hair, but because of the brown contact lenses. Her eyes are so big that it's always easy to spot her, but seeing them a different color threw me off a little bit.

(Keep in mind that this project is not to be confused with a competing Linda Lovelace story called Inferno, starring Malin Ackerman and Sasha Grey.)

Anyone out there looking forward to Lovelace? Wait a minute - what am I saying? It's Amanda Seyfried as a porn star and James Franco playing Hugh Hefner. Is anyone NOT looking forward to Lovelace?

Elijah Wood to Star in Film Described as SPEED at the Piano

Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood has been cast in an interesting sounding new indie thriller called Grand Piano. As the title of this article states, it's described as being like the movie Speed only it takes place at the piano. And yes, the Speed movie I'm referring to is the one that starred Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock

Here's how the story plays out according to THR, "The story concerns a once-great concert pianist who suffers from stage fright and comes back to perform after a five-year hiatus. Just when he's about to play the first bar, he notices somebody has written a threatening note on his music sheet. He's now forced to play his best concert ever to save his life as well as his wife's."

So basically if he doesn't play the notes a 55mph the Piano and everyone watching him is going to explode. The best thing the character could do at this point is to play the notes at 88mph, go back in time and prevent himself from being put in a situation where he would be murdered. All kidding aside, I'd watch this movie. It should make for an interesting role for Wood.

Grand Piano was written by Damien Chazelle and will be directed by Eugenio Mira. What do you think about the plot of this little film?

THE EXPENDABLES 2 - Explosive Teaser Trailer for Trailer

A new teaser trailer has been released for over-the-top action film The Expendables 2, which is loaded with a ton of action stars that includes Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The teaser is excitedly introduced by Terry Crews. It's like he's trying to intimidate us into watching it. I felt like if I didn't watch, he'd break down the door to my place and beat the hell out of me. Oh yeah, and this is a trailer for the actual trailer.

The movie was directed by Simon West, and it looks very entertaining. I had fun watching the first movie, but this sequel should be even better.

THE AVENGERS has a Second End Credit Scene!

We all knew we would get an end credits scene for The Avengers and those of you who have already seen the film know this, and it's pretty awesome. We have now learned that there is actually going to be a second end credits scene added to the very very end of the credits. This scene has been added to prints of the movie that will be shown in North America, which gives me even more of a reason to go see the movie again! I was already excited to see it again anyway.

I will give you a slightly spoilerish description of what the end scene involves directly below if you want to know. and below that I'll add a full on spoilerish description if you're curiosity is over flowing with super soldier serum, and it has nothing to do with super soldier serum. The picture above has nothing to do with it as well. In fact, it won't ruin any story details of the movie for you. It's just a fun conclusion.

.

.

.

Slight spoiler....

The clip has something to do with what Tony Stark says near the end of the movie.

.

.

.

Full spoiler....

It's the entire Avengers team post-battle quietly eating shwarma for about a minute, no dialogue. And if you're wondering, it's Bruce Banner there, not Hulk. For those that don't get it, it's a reference to a line Tony Stark says in the movie about how he knows of a shwarma place nearby.

Meet Rex Velvet: Arch Enemy To Phoenix Jones

We used to think real life super villains all around were a fail, then we found Rex Velvet. Seattles first super villain, RV, has one mission; erasing Phoenix Jones and other "real life super heroes" from existence. He is "the people's villain" and wishes to let the hero work return to the policeman and not the costumed vigilantes roaming the U.S. currently. Given the arrest of the super hero in Michigan for a shooting, and of course Phoenix Jones' own legal troubles, Rex Velvet just may be the villain this country needs.

CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS II - Awesome Reveal Trailer!

Activision has revealed an awesome first trailer for Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which is sure to spark some excitement within you. I enjoyed playing the first Black Ops game, I thought the Cold War setting was very cool. But, I love the fact that they are taking players into the near future of warfare in this sequel. It opens up so many more doors, and there's no limits to what can be done. As you'll see in the trailer, the military technology they created for the game looks extremely badass. For some reason though people are still riding horses into battle in the year 2025... that's going to be an easy battle win, unless your future weapon technology is taken away from you, and if that's the case the game is not as cool as I thought.

Here's the official description:

Pushing the boundaries of what fans have come to expect from the record-setting entertainment franchise, "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" propels players into a near future, 21st Century Cold War, where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare.

The game is set to be released on November 13th, 2012. Check out the trailer and give us your first initial thoughts!

Geek Art: G.I. Joe Art by Tom Whalen

Here's a couple of great pieces of G.I. Joe Geek Art from artist Tom Whalen. These were created by IDW Publishing last year. Here's some thought's from the artist on his G.I. Joe fandom...

As much as i loved comics and toys and animation as a child, it was the comics that had toys that had an animated series that spoke (yelled) the loudest to me. and none of those properties was more exciting than gi joe. the basic concept of military superheroes who fought a "ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world" was too much for my adolescent brain to handle. the endless hours spent reading those comics, playing with those toys and watching those animated episodes (sometimes simultaneously) had a profound effect on my imagination.

I'm so thankful for the opportunity to revisit something that meant (means) so much to me.

I'm also a huge G.I Joe fan, and these are some pretty kickass designs.

Poster for Simon Pegg's A FANTASTIC FEAR OF EVERYTHING

Here's a new poster for Simon Pegg's new comedy A Fantastic Fear of Everything. The movie looks pretty funny, and as a fan of Pegg's work I'm looking forward to seeing it. Pegg looks like a crazy mess in the poster, he looks a lot like how I feel. The movie also stars Amara Karan, Clare Higgins, Sheridan Smith and Alan Drake.

Pegg plays "a children's author turned crime novelist, whose research into the lives of Victorian serial killers has turned him into a paranoid wreck and perpetually in fear of being murdered. When a Hollywood exec shows interest in his script, his big break rapidly turns into a big breakdown."

If you haven't seen the trailer yet, check it out here. Have you ever been overly paranoid on the verge of craziness?

Here's an awesome live-action recreation of the Star Wars: The Old Republic cinematic trailer called Hope. It comes from French filmmaker Michael Schaack who directed and edited the fan-film. It turned out extremely well. I just wish he would have taken the effort he put into this, and created an original story or action sequence from the Star Wars universe. I've included the original animated cinematic trailer as well so you can compare the two.

THE LOVED ONES Trailer - Prom Night Can be Torture

$

Paramount Insurge has released a new trailer for their prom horror thriller The Loved Ones. This looks like an insanely jacked up movie, with crazy people doing crazy things. In the film a daughter and father team up to kidnap and torture the guy she wanted to take to prom. I guess he shouldn't have turned her down when she asked him, because it looks like the prom he ended up being forced to attend, sucks.

Here's the Synopsis:

Lola Stone asked Brent Mitchell to the prom, but Brent said no, and now he's screwed. What happens when Lola doesn't get what she wants? She enlists Daddy's help to throw a prom of her own, where she is queen and Brent is king -- whether he likes it or not. THE LOVED ONES is what happens when puppy love goes horribly, violently wrong. Brent should have said yes...

There's still no release date set for the film yet. If you enjoy watching horror films then maybe this will be something you'll enjoy. I'd just like to add that I hated prom, but I guess it's better than having your toes smashed in with a hammer by an evil dad.

Cobra Troopers Featured in new G.I. JOE: RETALIATION Photo

Paramount Pictures has released a couple of new pics from Jon Chu's awesome looking film G.I. Joe: Retailiation. One of the pictures give us a good look at a group of Cobra military troopers, the other is a boring pic of D.J. Cotrona as Flint. When are they actually going to show us something exciting of Flint? He's looking like a throw away character in this movie.

Here's the Synopsis:

A follow-up to the 2009 release of G.I. JOE: RISE OF THE COBRA, which grossed over $300M worldwide, Paramount Pictures, MGM and Skydance Productions, in association with HASBRO and di Bonaventura Pictures, commences production on G.I. JOE: RETALIATION. In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.

The movie is set to be released on June 29th, 2012!

First Trailer for the Sundance Hit BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD

$

Beasts of the Southern Wild blew up at the Sundance Film Festival this year. It was the one film everyone was raving about. I thought the movie was good, but I didn't think it was as good as everyone was hyping it up to be. I honestly think Sundance had a little taste of mass hysteria with this movie. I will say that the performances from the young Quvenzhané Wallis as Hushpuppy, and Dwight Henry as her father Wink, were great. It's a very artistically poetic film that's beautiful to watch, but for some reason I just wasn't able to connect to it.

The movie was directed by Benh Zeitlin, and I wondered how they would market it to the masses, because this is not a traditional story. The trailer gives you a good sense of the film's visuals and poetics, but it struggles giving you the details on what it's really about.

You can read our full review of the film here, and watch our video review of it here

Here's the synopsis:

In a forgotten but defiant bayou community cut off from the rest of the world by a sprawling levee, a six-year-old girl exists on the brink of orphanhood. Buoyed by her childish optimism and extraordinary imagination, she believes that the natural world is in balance with the universe until a fierce storm changes her reality. Desperate to repair the structure of her world in order to save her ailing father and sinking home, this tiny hero must learn to survive unstoppable catastrophes of epic proportions.

The movie will be released on June 27th, 2012. Watch the trailer and let us know if you think it looks good to you or not.

Sony Pictures has released the first two film clips for Barry Sonnenfeld's Men in Black 3. Both clips feature some fun action from the film with Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin. I'm looking forward to seeing how this new MIB story plays out.

The movie also stars Jemaine Clement, Emma Thompson, Nicole Scherzinger, Alice Eve, and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Here's the synopsis:

Agents J and K are back... in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K's life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him -- secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.

The movie hits theaters on May 25th, 2012. Enjoy the clips!

Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is sure to be an awesomely entertaining movie! It's such an incredible concept that I think everyone can and should get behind... Abraham Lincoln assassinating vampires? It's brilliant! Twentieth Century Fox has released a brand new featurette for the film giving us a hell of a lot of great new footage that you'll all enjoy! Bekmambetov, Tim Burton, Benjamin Walker and Seth Grahame-Smith basically talk about how Lincoln is like a classic superhero, and this is his origin story.

Here's the synopsis:

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter explores the secret life of our greatest president, and the untold story that shaped our nation. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of Wanted) bring a fresh and visceral voice to the bloodthirsty lore of the vampire, imagining Lincoln as history's greatest hunter of the undead.

Honest Abe will wield his Ax of death on June 22nd, 2012.
