CAT-AT - Star Wars Joke Gone A Bit Too Far Far Away

0
0
Get your cat liquored up and let's go destroy some rebels!
Let's try to break this down. 'Loser' and 'Cat Freak' isn't a hard combination of titles to have to your name. But
'Cat Freak,' 'Star Wars Geek,' aaaand 'Talented Carpenter'... That's a much rarer breed. One of the two is creepier than the other, havent decided which one though. I think it really depends on the smell. That'll have to be my deciding factor... anyway...
Luckily for BillyAppletini (hopefully not his real last name), the creator of the CAT-AT scratching post, it seems he's neither of those; he's just really "committed to a joke."
Here's what he had to say about creating this as a joke for his cat loving friend:
I wouldn't consider myself a great woodworker or an artist - but I will take credit for being committed to a joke. I wrecked my house for a month building this, which was about 27 days longer than I wish it would have taken. The trickiest part was keeping any of my friends from coming inside my place for that whole time - I knew they wouldn't be able to keep it a secret!
The inside of the CAT-AT has a fully furnished luxury cat condo.
I was originally going to forge an Amazon receipt and make it look like my buddy's cat ordered it on his Amazon account and have it delivered while he was at work, but enough was enough - when it was complete, I had to get it out of my loft and clean up.
You'll spend a month building something, with crap all over your house, but you draw the line at forging a receipt and ruining the good name of Mr. Whiskers??? Not so committed after all, eh?
I'm definitely a proud Star Wars geek/nerd/lover/mistress. I own more than a handful of Star Wars toys; some expensive, some just cherished and overplayed with. But I've never gotten this creative. So you, Sir Appletini, walk away the better man.

DARK SHADOWS - Vampire History Featurette with Lots of New Footage

0
0

Warner Bros. has released a great new featurette for Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, which focuses on the history of vampires, taking a look back at several of the classic vampire films that have been made over the years. It also includes interviews with Johnny Depp and Tim Burton where they talk about their vampire inspirations for the film, as well as showing a ton of never before seen footage. One of the scenes shows Depp hypnotizing Christopher Lee, which is pretty cool. It seems like one of the main points of the video is to show us that there's no other vampire like Depp's Barnabus, and it's hard to argue with that, because it really is such a different take on the dark creature. Hope you enjoy the featurette! When you're done watching, let us know who your favorite movie vampire is!

Synopsis:

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet-or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better...

TWILIGHT: BREAKING DAWN Part 2 - Two New Images

0
0

There's a reason this post is going up at 6am in the pacific standard time. Summit Entertainment has released two new images from the Bill Condon directed film The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2. It's not like we haven't seen images of these same characters over and over again over the last four years. Only now Bella's got red contact lenses which passes her off as a vampire.

The movie hit's theaters on November 16th, and I can't wait for this franchise to finally die! That is, until Stephanie Meyer decides to write another book, which she's probably doing right now. Damn.

Here's a short synopsis:

After the birth of Renesmee, the Cullens gather other vampire clans in order to protect the child from a false allegation that puts the family in front of the Volturi.

The movie stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Peter Facinelli, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone, Elizabeth Reaser, Nikki Reed, Billy Burke, Rami Malek, Maggie Grace, and a ton of other people.

Can You Smell What The Rock Is Cookin' in This New Image from PAIN AND GAIN?

0
0

Michael Bay is hard at work directing his next action thriller Pain and Gain with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Mark Wahlberg. At $20 million dollars, this is probably the lowest budget movie that Bay has ever made.

The script was written by Captain America scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It's based on a true story that follows a pair of Florida bodybuilders who get caught up in an extortion ring, as well as a kidnapping scheme involving a wealthy businessman that goes terribly wrong. It also stars Rob CorddryRebel WilsonTony ShaloubAnthony MackieEd Harris, and Bar Paly.

A new image has been released from the film giving us a whole new perspective on what Bay actually has in store for us. As you will see in the image below Johnson is having himself a little BBQ, cooking himself up a little slice of... human hand!? Yeah, that's pretty hardcore. It would have taken things to a whole new level had they released an image of him eating it. You see what steroids do to you, kids? They turn you into cannibals! Don't do drugs.

Adam McKay To Direct Remake of UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT; Will Smith and Denzel Washington To Star?

I won't pretend to have ever heard of Uptown Saturday Night until right now, but the 1974 film starring Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier is the latest film to fall prey to Hollywood's remake cycle. But perhaps this isn't a bad thing.

Deadline has the news, and they report that Anchorman director Adam McKay is signed on to sit in the director's chair for this version of the story. That's a big plus in my book, and the casting they're looking at would be two more huge marks in the positive column for this film: Warner Bros. is hoping to lock down Will Smith and Denzel Washington to star together. Talk about dream casting - pretty much everyone in America will go see this movie if those two are in it, regardless of the plot.

Speaking of plot, though, the original "starred Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier as pals who visit an illegal nightclub, and are forced to hand over their wallets to thieves. Turns out one of them contains a winning lottery ticket, emboldening the duo to bump up against the criminal element to get back the wallet." Sounds like a ton of potential for some great comedy in there. Smith, as everyone who grew up in the 90s can attest, is already pretty familiar with comedy from his rap and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air days, not to mention a ton of action comedies over the past twenty years. But the biggest selling point for me is the opportunity to see Washington - someone who has played it straight and serious in most of his films - cracking jokes in a high-profile comedy, something we haven't seen from him before.

Sounds like a perfect opportunity for three A-listers to work together and maybe call some attention back to the original film while they're at it. I just added it to my Netflix queue. Have you seen the original movie, and are you excited about the possibility of Smith and Washington working together in a comedy?

THE WOLVERINE To Film in Japan

0
0

We already knew that The Wolverine would be set in Japan, but it looks like 20th Century Fox plans to shoot the film there as well. CEO Tom Rothman revealed the news to MTV (via SuperHeroHype).

Here is what Rothman had to say:

"We're doing the stage work in Australia," he explains of the recent announcement that will take the production work down under. " ...the location work will be in Japan.

"It's set in Japan, A great number of Japanese actors will be in it and it's based on the very famous run of the comics... I can just tell you on behalf of [Jackman], his goal is to make the ultimate, bad ass, berserker rage Wolverine."
Rothman seems to be referring to Frank Miller and Chris Claremont's 1982 Wolverine miniseries. It is not known if the film will be shot in 3D or not at this time, I hope that it is not. James Mangold is directing based on a script by Christopher McQuarrie and Mark BombackThe Wolverine is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 26, 2013.

FRINGE Renewed for Fifth and Final Season

0
0

Fringe will be able to hit 100 episodes! THR reports that the cult show has been picked up for a fifth and final season by Fox. The renewal deal is for 13 episodes, which is a critical syndication threshold for the series' studio, Warner Bros. TV.

Fox Chief Kevin Reilly had this to say about the decision:

Fringe is a remarkably creative series that has set the bar as one of television’s most imaginative dramas. Bringing it back for a final 13 allows us to provide the climactic conclusion that its passionate and loyal fans deserve. The amazing work the producers, writers and the incredibly talented cast and crew have delivered the last four seasons has literally been out of this world. Although the end is bittersweet, it’s going to be a very exciting final chapter.
Showrunners Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman had this to say about the news:
This pickup means the world (both of them) to us, because we love sharing these stories with our enthusiastic fans. On behalf of the cast and crew, we applaud our fans and Fox for allowing us to imagine the impossibilities together for so long. Season five is going to be a conclusive thrill ride for all of us.
The series has had a number of lows this season in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demo (0.9). It's currently staying at 3 million viewers, according to Nielsen. Despite low ratings, the show is a huge hit with the fans, and has received critical and awards support, including two Emmy nominations in technical categories.

I have to admit that I tuned out in the third season, and I am not interested in returning for the final season. I am happy that the show will be able to make it to the milestone. Have you stuck with the show from the beginnning?

Need To Audition for STAR TREK 2? Benedict Cumberbatch Says There's an App for That

0
0

In our world of microtechnology, it's not uncommon for actors to audition in front of casting directors with Flip Cams and other small video cameras. But "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch says he locked down his part as the "not-so-good guys" in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek sequel with a rather unusual method - he recorded his audition in a friend's kitchen using an iPhone.

In an interview with the NY Times, Cumberbatch detailed the story of his audition. A few interesting quotes:

I got a call before Christmas Eve saying that they’re very interested in you playing the not-so-good guy in the next “Star Trek” film. Can you get yourself on tape? So I rang some friends of mine – and when I say friends, I mean the top casting directors in England who were all on holiday because we observe this little Judeo-Christian cult holiday called Christmas...And the demands were coming in so fast, I was like, This is terrifying. And by the 27th, people were knocking on the door, literally, and saying I’ve got to put myself on tape.

My Flip wasn’t working, I couldn’t get any kind of recording device. I said, I’m going to do it on my iPhone. It’s high quality, it’s HD. It will be fine. And so I ended up squatting in their kitchen, at about 11 o’clock at night. I was pretty strung out, so that went into the performance. And his wife, Alice...she’s balancing two chairs to get the right angle on me and desk lamps bouncing light off bits of paper, just trying desperately to make it look half-decent. Because it’s going to go into J.J. Abrams’s iPad. So we did it, and then it took a day and a half to compress it. I sent it to him, and then I got told, “J.J.’s on holiday.” I was furious.

To see how the story ends - spoiler alert, it's positive - read the whole article at the NY Times website.

Are you pumped for Star Trek 2? I definitely am!

THE AVENGERS - EW Reveals Special Edition Covers

It's been another long week of never-ending news for Marvel's The Avengers. The streak continues with three new magazine covers for the upcoming special edition of Entertainment Weekly. The only image that's kind of new is the one of The Hulk, showing his hairy chest off to the world.

The Avengers is currently playing overseas, and so far everyone seems to be freakin' loving it! We have every reason to be excited for this movie, it's what we've all been waiting for, and it's going to deliver everything we want from it. The movie is already breaking box office records. I can't wait to see how it ends up doing when all is said and done.

Will a NEW MUTANTS Movie Be Announced This Summer?

0
0

Unfortunately, Fox owns all of the rights to Marvel's mutant characters, which is why you'll never see them in the same film together with any of The Avengers characters. It's kind of a sad thought that Marvel might never get to adapt any of their mutant characters for the big screen. I'd love to see what they would do with them. Fox got the last X-Men movie right, so hopefully the streak continues with the X-Men: First Class sequel, Deadpool, and The New Mutants. That's right, it looks like Fox might be announcing a New Mutants movie in the near future.

Fox CEO Tom Rothman recently did an interview with Collider and here's what he said when the New Mutants was brought up as being a potential film...

Steve: I know you guys have New Mutants and a lot of characters in the X-Men universe.  Obviously you guys are moving forward on an X-Men sequel, you’re moving forward on Wolverine, do you envision New Mutants or some of these other characters as franchises that the door can be open to?  It does seem to me that the superhero genre is bigger than it’s ever been, and you guys have some of the crown jewels.

Rothman: (smiles) Yes.

When can fans expect an announcement on some of these other properties?  Before Comic-Con, after Comic-Con, at Comic-Con?

Rothman:  In the summer.

Are you talking to filmmakers right now?

Rothman: Let me just say this.  All I have to say is, I agree with you in your assessment of the potential in a lot of these characters.

Adapting The New Mutants into a feature film is definitely a step in the right direction for the studio. There's a ton of potential there, and like any of these Marvel character it could make for a great movie if the studio gets the right team of talent to bring it to life. I guess we'll find out for sure what's happening with these characters this summer.

The New Mutants are a group of teenaged mutant superheroes-in-training with Professor Charles Xavier, and are a spin-off of the popular X-Men franchise. The original team consisted of:

  • Karma (Xi'an Coy Manh), a 19-year-old Vietnamese girl and the team's original leader, who could mentally possess other people's bodies.
  • Cannonball (Samuel Guthrie), a mild-mannered Kentuckian and eventual co-leader after Karma's "death," who became nigh-invulnerable when rocketing through the air.
  • Wolfsbane (Rahne Sinclair), a Scot who could transform into a wolf-like creature.
  • Psyche (Danielle Moonstar, also called Mirage and Moonstar), a Cheyenne and eventual co-leader after Karma's "death," who could create visual empathic three-dimensional illusions.
  • Sunspot (Roberto da Costa), a Brazilian who gained superhuman strength fueled by sunlight and could store solar energy in his body to use his super strength during the night.

What are your thoughts on Fox possibly moving forward with an adaptation of The New Mutants?

Here's a nice series of geek art created by Lily's Factory. The art features DC Comics female superhero and villain art. The concept behind this set includes the shadows of their former selves. It's a unique style of art and I kinda dig it. To see another great series of awesome superhero art from the same artist click here.

Hammer Developing WINCHESTER MYSTERY HOUSE Movie!

We're finally going to get a movie based on the legendary Winchester Mystery House! I've been wondering when we would get to see an awesome movie based on this creepy old mansion. Hammer has announced that they've optioned the rights to develop a feature length horror film based on what's considered to be the “world’s most haunted house.”

It's fun to explore the realm of the supernatural world, and I took a trip up to the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, CA a few years back to check it out for myself, and I really had a great time. It's such an incredibly creepy house with an intensely awesome and interesting history. I had an absolute blast taking the tour.

The Winchester Mystery House has a startling history and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists annually. Popular belief holds that Sarah Winchester, heiress to the Winchester Rifle fortune, was convinced she was haunted by the spirits of those killed by “the gun that won the west.”  Following a Medium’s advice, Sarah built a massive house in Northern California to appease the spirits.  For the next 38 years, she never stopped building believing that if she continued, she would live forever, and if she stopped, she would die.  Known as the “house built for the spirits,” there have been many inexplicable ghost sightings and to this day, visitors share their terrifying stories of having been in the presence of these departed souls who continue to roam the grounds of the intricate and enigmatic house.

What's cool about this is that the movie will be shot on location at the mansion. That will take the quality of the film to a whole new level. It's not clear what the story will be about but I hope that it tells the actual story behind the legendary haunted house.

President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions, Tobin Armbrust, had this to say in a statement,

The Winchester House has a rich and compelling history.  The story behind how it was built has attracted a great deal of attention over the years and we are excited to bring that mythology to film. We are also thrilled, and terrified, that the House has allowed us to film on the premises.

Brett Tomberlin, President, Imagination Design Works added,

We are extremely excited to be partnering with Exclusive Media to bring the story of the Winchester Mystery House to a global audience.  For many years, the mystique and history of this unique venue, and its owner Sarah Winchester, could be experienced only by those visiting the site. Now, with a film shot in and around the House,Sarah's spirit will be brought back to life, and the audience will see first-hand this stunning and bizarre house.

I'm looking forward to see what they end up doing with this film. I have complete confidence knowing that Hammer is behind the films production. What would you like to see them do with a movie based on the Winchester Mystery House?

Here's the full press release:

In the first deal of its kind, the San Jose, California based Winchester Mystery House considered the “world’s most haunted house” is authorizing Hammer, an Exclusive Media company, the use of its unique property for a feature film based on its legendary story.   Hammer has optioned all rights to develop and produce the feature film with Imagination Design Works (IDW) and Nine/8 Entertainment, it was announced today by Simon Oakes, Vice-Chairman of Exclusive Media and President & CEO of Hammer, and Guy East and Nigel Sinclair, Co-Chairmen of Exclusive Media.

Production on the supernatural horror film currently in development will be overseen by Exclusive Media’s Tobin Armbrust, President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions, and Shira Rockowitz, Director of Development and Production.  Brett Tomberlin and Antonia Lianos will produce for Imagination Design Works, Inc along with Andrew Trapani and Brian Gilbert for Nine/8 Entertainment.

“The Winchester House has a rich and compelling history.  The story behind how it was built has attracted a great deal of attention over the years and we are excited to bring that mythology to film,” said Tobin Armbrust.  “We are also thrilled, and terrified, that the House has allowed us to film on the premises”.

"We are extremely excited to be partnering with Exclusive Media to bring the story of the Winchester Mystery House to a global audience.  For many years, the mystique and history of this unique venue, and its owner Sarah Winchester, could be experienced only by those visiting the site.  Now, with a film shot in and around the House, Sarah's spirit will be brought back to life, and the audience will see first-hand this stunning and bizarre house," said Brett Tomberlin, President, Imagination Design Works.

Imagination Design Works, Inc. organizes the famous “Fright Nights,” a special ticketed event held at the Winchester Mystery House during the month of October, providing a true Halloween experience to visitors.

Andrew Trapani of Nine/8 Entertainment previously produced THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT for Lionsgate.  Released in Spring 2009 and starring Oscar Nominee Virginia Madsen, HAUNTING opened as the #2 film in the U.S., generating over $23M at the box office in its opening weekend of release and is now amongst the top grossing films in Lionsgate history.  Trapani also recently produced THE CHOSEN ONE, an animated film for the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers.

Upcoming projects include executive producing the TV series, “Wallace,” based on the life of Scotsman William Wallace, created and written by Mick Davis, the original supernatural thriller CANDLE, and a biopic about famed auto-maker John DeLorean. Trapani began his entertainment career as a video game designer and producer for Crystal Dynamics, Inc where he oversaw the development and production of some of the first Sony Playstation games.

Brian Gilbert most recently produced Warner Bros. Premiere/Cartoon Network’s “Scooby Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster” and “Scooby Doo! The Mystery Begins.” His past film credits include the horror film WRONG TURN starring Desmond Harrington, Eliza Dushku and Jeremy Sisto released by 20th Century Fox and nominated for Best Film at the Sitges Catalonian International Film Festival, as well as THE DEATHS OF IAN STONE starring Mike Vogel, Jaime Murray and Christina Cole released by After Dark Films.  Gilbert is also executive producer alongside Trapini on “Wallace” and produced as well as directed THE CHOSEN ONE.

Recent production titles include the box office hit THE WOMAN IN BLACK starring Daniel Radcliffe, and George Clooney’s THE IDES OF MARCH produced by Smokehouse Pictures and co-produced by Exclusive Media with Cross Creek Pictures.

Other Hammer productions in the works include THE QUIET ONES to be directed by John Pogue starring Jared Harris, BONESHAKER to be produced with Cross Creek Pictures, GASLIGHT written by newcomer Ian Fried and the newly announced THE WOMAN IN BLACK: ANGELS OF DEATH, to be produced with Talisman, Cross Creek Pictures and Alliance Films.

Exclusive Media’s current production slate includes Ron Howard’s epic RUSH starring Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl and produced with production partners Cross Creek Pictures, Imagine Entertainment, Working Title, Brian Grazer, and Revolution Films; END OF WATCH starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Peña, Anna Kendrick and America Ferrera set for release through Open Road Films on September 28; SO UNDERCOVER starring Miley Cyrus and SNITCH starring Dwayne Johnson and Susan Sarandon in post-production.

Other recent titles from Exclusive Media’s documentary film division, Spitfire Pictures, include the Academy Award winning UNDEFEATED currently in release through The Weinstein Company, the Grammy Award winning FOO FIGHTERS: BACK AND FORTH produced in association with Allentown Productions and Martin Scorsese’s award winning GEORGE HARRISON: LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD produced by Martin Scorsese, Nigel Sinclair and Olivia Harrison.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN - New International Poster

What you see here is obviously a new international movie poster for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man. The movie looks awesome, but there's been rumors that the executives over at Sony Pictures haven't liked it. They're executives though, and they have different tastes in films than the rest of us geeks. It would be hard for me to trust the opinion of most studio executives on what they thought of a movie. All this talk is just rumors anyway. I've loved everything I've seen from Spider-Man so far, and I can't see it being a bad movie. What are your thoughts on the movie opinions of studio executives?

Some guy used his precious time to build his own working Star Trek phaser. If our world is ever invaded by evil balloons, this guy's got it under control. As for me... all I've got is a pin. It'd be interesting to know how he build this thing because it is pretty cool.

Geek Art: Assassin's Creed Set in China

Here's some awesome concept art giving us a glimpse of what Assassin's Creed might look like if the story was set in the ancient empire of China. There's no doubt this would make for an incredible setting for a new Assassin's Creed game. The art was created by Deviant Art artist ChaoyuanXu. What do you think of the concept? Would you like to see an Assassin's Creed game like this end up getting made?

Steve Jobs Movie Gains Book of Mormon Star Josh Gad

The Book of Mormon star Josh Gad is in talks to to join the new Ashton Kutcher Steve Jobs film Jobs. He will end up playing Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in the Joshua Michael Stern-directed film. Wozniak was the one who created the Apple I computer and co-created the Apple II computer in the mid-1970s.

The film was written by Matt Whiteley, and the story will follow the ups and downs of Steve Jobs' life from the years 1971 to 2000. As you know, he became one of the most revered creative entrepreneurs of our time.

The film will start production in May. It will be interesting to see how this turns out. Sony Picture is also developing a Steve Jobs film based on Walter Isaacson’s bestselling biography Steve Jobs. Do you think Gad is a good choice for the role of Wozniak?

Stunning Ben Kenobi, Desert Nomad Statue

Check out this incredibly awesome statue of Ben Kenobi, Desert Nomad. The statue was created by Joe Allard and Tom Gilliland, and it's a representation of Obi-Wan in the years between the films Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The concept for the artists were to "imagine the life of Kenobi as he became the reclusive, mystical figure of Tatooine." They also went on to explain,

It also allowed us to have fun imagining both Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness as the character, but at different ages than we have seen them in the films.

The statue was sculpted in castiline and wax, with a sculpey base. Some of the lightsabers were sculpted by hand, and Tusken Raider weapons were output from digital models (which is why they look clear).

There's a lot of great detail, and I love how they managed to combine the look of both McGregor and Guinness. What do you think of it?

Marvel Will Eventually Replace Robert Downey Jr. as IRON MAN

0
0

So what's Marvel going to do when Robert Downey Jr. decides he doesn't want to be Iron Man anymore? He originally signed a contract to do four films for Marvel, and after Iron Man 3 that contract will be fulfilled. This is the actor that took Marvel to a whole new level and brought the studio to point where they are today. But he can't and won't play Iron Man forever, so when he decides that he's done, or Marvel doesn't want to pay him what he's worth now, what's Marvel going to do when they want to make another Iron Man movie? Replace him of course. It never stopped them before; they've replaced Edward Norton as the Hulk and Terrence Howard as Rhodey

Badass Digest caught up with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige at CinemaCon and asked him about this. He went on to describe that they will treat Tony Stark like James Bond in this situation...

I think Bond is a good example. Let’s put it this way: I hope Downey makes a lot of movies for us as Stark. If and when he doesn’t, and I’m still here making these movies, we don’t take him to Afghanistan and have him wounded again. I think we James Bond it.

By "James Bonding," he means the character can be replaced with an actor as many times as they need to do it to get their movies made. So 20 years from now, maybe we'll all be having a conversation about who our favorite Iron Man actor was. It's kind of weird to think about, but I can see it. That can also be applied to every other actor portraying a Marvel Superhero as well. As long as the studio keeps wanting make these films they'll need actors to fill the roles. It's something that we'll just have to accept, and I'm OK with it.

All that matters to me is that they keep the stories moving forward. I'll be pissed if Marvel decides to reboot everything they've done. That just seems stupid. What do you think about the fact that all of the actors in these Marvel films will eventually be replaced? What are some alternative actors that you think would be good in the roles of some of these superheroes?

Internet Culture Compromised: Memes Go Corporate

0
0

It's official, online universe, the trend has died. Not dead in the traditional sense as everyone is making Memes nowadays, but it seems as though the once strictly geek expression has gone mainstream and is now in the money-grubbing jowls of corporate America. Yes, how very uncouth of me to gripe about the ruin of our generations Mr. Smiley or peace sign, but maybe it's because people haven't realized that's exactly what's happening.

Memes are the pinnacle expressionist art form of our generation. Simple as modern art, and less work intensive than a screen print design, anyone can make a meme and convey an expression everyone can understand. Using the faces we've copied, pasted, and come to love, pop culture and politics can be explained in one picture (occasionally several panels) and a blurb of words. Memes are so simple anyone can make them, or can they?

That's coming from the LA Lakers page...which is following suit with several other organizations who have supposedly hired 6th graders to write random phrases in impact font with no relevance whatsoever. It's enough to make me want to flame congress unmercifully until they pass a CISPA or SOPA or something that stops these atrocities from happening again. Maybe I'm just that geek hipster who wants to say he was meme'ing before it was cool, or maybe I'm just a concerned 20-something who doesn't want a good thing to die so quickly. Whatever the case, you can sympathize right? What say you Mr. President?

Trailer for Judd Apatow's Comedy THIS IS 40

0

Universal Pictures has released a great new trailer for a funny looking new comedy called This is 40, from director Judd Apatow. The movie stars Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann, and it's a spin-off of Apatow's previous comedy Knocked Up, focusing on the characters Pete and Debbie. It looks like another solid comedy from Apatow, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out! I think you'll be able to relate more to the movie and the characters if you're married and have kids.

The film also features apperences from Jason Segel, Lena Dunham, Megan Fox, Chris O’Dowd, Melissa McCarthy, Charlyne Yi, Albert Brooks, John Lithgow and Annie Mumolo.
