Lionsgate has released a teaser and motion poster for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. It's exactly what you would expect the teaser and motion posters to be for the film. They've already done this a few times before by lighting the logo on fire.

This is the final chapter in the story. That is, until the studio tries to turn the franchise into more films. In this movie, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) now fully realizes the stakes are no longer just for survival, they are for the future.

With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends – including Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Finnick (Sam Claflin), and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) – Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her. The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 was directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Peter Craig and Danny Strong. The cast also includes Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Willow Shields, Jena Malone, Stanley TucciJulianne Moore, Mahershala Ali, Natalie Dormer, Wes Chatham, Elden Henson, and Evan Ross.

The film will be released in theaters on November 20th, 2015.

It features Calvin and Hobbes reenacting the sequence during the Battle of Hoth in which Luke Skywalker takes down an AT-AT with his ship's tow cable.

Will J.J. Abrams Also Direct STAR WARS: EPSIODE IX?

It looks like Star Wars: The Force Awakens won't be the only film in the franchise that J.J. Abrams will direct. According to our friends at Latino-Review, there's a good chance that Abrams will be back to direct Star Wars: Episode IX

It was recently announced that Rian Johnson (Looper) will write and direct Star Wars: Episode VIII. That film is set for release on May 26, 2017. Then there's Star Wars: Rogue One, which is being developed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla).

Although Abrams isn't involved with those productions, that doesn't mean he won't be back for more Star Wars action. According to the report, everyone at Disney who has seen footage from The Force Awakens are extremely happy with what Abrams has done. They go on to say,

"There are enough conversations about J.J. Abrams returning to direct Episode IX that we’ve been able to independently verify it four times that his name is the front-runner for the last trilogy installment and the movie isn’t due until 2019.

It's no secret that Abrams has a deep love for the Star Wars franchise just like the rest of us. But it has got to be a very different experience being behind the camera and developing these films. The filmmaker has talked about how crazy the process has been to bring The Force Awakens to life. So Disney wanting him to direct the movie doesn't necessarily mean that he'll do it.

As much as I love Abrams' films, I'll hold off on my excitement of him directing anymore Star Wars films until I see how The Force Awakens turns out. It's encouraging to know, though, that Disney and Lucasfilm like what he has delivered!

A first trailer has been released for for the fun looking Samuel L. Jackson and Hailee Steinfeld action comedy Barely Lethal.  The story centers on a teenage special ops agent who wants to have a "normal" adolescence. So she fakes her own death and enrolls in a suburban high school, where "she quickly learns that surviving the treacherous waters of high school is more challenging than international espionage."

The movie was directed by Kyle Newman (Fanboys), and it also stars Jessica AlbaDan FoglerJaime KingSophie Turner, and Thomas Mann. There are some talented individuals who played a part in bringing this movie to life, and regardless of the poorly cut trailer, it looks like it could be an entertaining flick

Barely Lethal is being released by A24 FIlms, but no release date has been set yet. I image it will hit theaters sometime this year.

Over the years we've seen lots of different costume changes for DC Comic superheroes. But artist Stephen Byrne has created some very different character designs for Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. These are unlike anything I recall seeing before, and they are very simple, modern costume designs without really having a costume. What do you think of the outfits?

Watch Vin Diesel Offer a Touching Tribute to Paul Walker at FURIOUS 7 Screening

watch-vin-diesel-offer-a-touching-tribute-to-paul-walker-at-furious-7-screening

Vin Diesel recently appeared at an advanced screening of Furious 7 to introduce the film to the audience. When he got up in front of the audience he mentioned how this was one of the hardest projects he ever worked on, and started talking about Paul Walker. Diesel ended up offering a very heartfelt and touching tribute to the actor, who tragically passed away in 2013 in a car accident.

Director James Wan and his crew have promised that the movie will give Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner, a proper sendoff. As Diesel described to the audience:

Every time when I saw the movie at the premiere, Paul Walker and I would go off to the side and he would always tell me, ‘Vin, the best one’s still in the can.’ Well, I hope tonight that you let Pablo know that this, this is the best one for you guys.

T.J. Miller Might Be Playing Weasel in DEADPOOL

Director Tim Miller and Ryan Reynolds has just started production on Deadpool, and there's still a lot that we don't know about how the movie is going to turn out. We're all obviously hoping it's going to be the awesome Deadpool movie that we've all been waiting to see.

As far as casting goes, we know that Ryan Reynolds will be reprising his role as the Merc With A Mouth, and he'll be joined by Morena Baccarin (Gotham), Gina Carano (Fast & Furious 6), T.J. Miller (Transformers: Age of Extinction), and Ed Skrein (Game Of Thrones).

We know Carano will be playing Angel Dust; it has been said that Skrein will take on an unknown villain role; and Baccarin will play Deadpool's love interest in the story. She "grapples with falling for a man with a hideously scarred face," and we assume that is character is Vanessa Carlyle, a.k.a. Copycat, but that has not been confirmed.

As for Miller, it seems he revealed his role in a hashtag in a tweet that he sent out. His character was previously described as a comedic character who will compliment Deadpool's sense of humor. It looks like that character will be Weasel.

For those of you not familiar with the character, Weasel is a friend of Wade Wilson's Deadpool, and he also takes on the roles of a sidekick, information broker, and arms dealer.

Weasel is perhaps Deadpool's best friend. However, because of his frequent mood swings and tenuous mental state, Deadpool still often abuses or mistreats him, although Weasel has also displayed an opportunistic streak against his friend on occasion.

I've seen a few people speculate that this was going to be the character that Miller would play, and it looks like they might be right! The actor definitely fits the role, and if he really is playing Weasel, he's going to be great.

Cool Video Shows The First & Last Shots of Films Played Side By Side Simultaneously

When I watch movies, I'm always on the lookout for repetition. Filmmakers often use the same framing or sometimes even the same shot to help tell their story, whether it's as visual shorthand to help establish the passing of time, to hammer home the themes of the movie, or to show character growth by actively breaking that repetition. Sometimes the first and last images we see in a movie have a thematic resonance, and now editor Jacob T. Swinney has put together a supercut of dozens of first and final shots of various movies.

It's an interesting way to reexamine some of our favorite films, and putting them side by side can reveal some fascinating things - like the fact that the show of Rosamund Pike's head that opens and closes Gone Girl is not actually the same exact shot, like I previously thought it was. Take a look below, and see for yourselves.

John Williams Replaced on Spielberg's BRIDGE OF SPIES, Will Score THE BFG

$

Not too long ago, I wrote about how Steven Spielberg's Cold War spy thriller was titled Bridge of Spies, and that his longtime collaborator John Williams would be providing the score for the movie. Today, Disney and DreamWorks sent over a press release confirming the title, but now there's a bit of bad news for fans of Williams' music (and who isn't a John Williams fan?): the composer has been replaced by Thomas Newman "as John Williams’ schedule was interrupted and he was unavailable to score the film due to a minor health issue, now corrected."

I'm glad to hear that Williams is OK, but it's sort of a bummer that he won't be able to put his spin on the sound of Spielberg's newest movie. I was looking forward to hearing his take on the 60s-set spy genre, but as far as replacements go, getting a 12-time Oscar nominee like Newman to take over isn't half bad. And there's still some good news to come out of this: the release says that Williams will return to score Spielberg's next movie, The BFG, so it sounds like he thankfully really has recovered from that health issue after all. Bridge of Spies stars Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance, Amy Ryan, and Alan Alda, and opens in theaters on October 16th. Here's the official synopsis, followed by a new image from the film:

A dramatic thriller set against the backdrop of a series of historic events, “Bridge of Spies” tells the story of James Donovan (Hanks), a Brooklyn lawyer who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible task to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. Screenwriters Matt Charman and Ethan Coen & Joel Coen have woven this remarkable experience in Donovan’s life into a story inspired by true events that captures the essence of a man who risked everything and vividly brings his personal journey to life.

First Photo From PEE-WEE'S BIG HOLIDAY

Paul Reubens has offered us our first look at his new Pee-Wee movie, Pee-Wee's Big Holiday. The movie has been shooting for the last couple of days, and Reubens has started blogging about his experiences. One of the first things he posted was the image above, and it came along with the following comment:

"Wow, am I tired! Just finished the second day of filming. Hitchhiked yesterday all day. Got a ride, hitchhiked some more, then got another ride. A lot of traveling in two days!"

The story centers around "a fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger [that] inspires Pee-wee to take his first-ever holiday in an epic story of friendship and destiny." There's also an interview that he did with Entertainment Weekly that offers up a few additional bits of information regarding the film. Here's what he had to say:

"We’ve been writing it for five years almost, on and off. It was just announced, but the offer from Netflix came a year ago. It took a really long time to get from there to where we are now. I went on Jimmy Fallon before Halloween—the announcement was going to be made on his show—and at the last minute they weren’t ready. I just thought people had stopped believing me when I told them it was happening. Now people are like, 'Oh my god, you weren’t a liar!'"

He then goes on to discuss the idea of the movie, saying:

"It’s a road-trip movie across the country. It’s very similar in style and tone to Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. But it’s not about a bicycle. I never really thought of Big Adventure as a family movie, but I didn’t try to make an adult movie or a kid movie. We wanted to make something that appealed to a wide age range, and I think that’s the case with this movie also."

He then talks about 2015 being the 30th anniversary of the character:

"I don’t think it’s real different. But it can’t be the same because nothing’s the same. I’m older—physically, mentally. But I want to rise to the occasion. I don’t want it to be a movie where people go and say, 'Wow, should he have made this movie?' I haven’t put the suit on other than for costume fittings, but that’s been the amazing thing about Pee-wee Herman over all the years, even right from the get-go when I first did it: It’s just something that’s inside me somewhere, and I’ve always been able to switch it on and switch it off. So it feels the same way to me in that respect. I put that suit on, I make a certain face and get in a certain mind frame, and there he is."

The movie is being produced by Judd Apatow, and directed by John Lee. It's set to officially premiere on Netflix on a date that has yet to be determined.

Hear Paul Feig's Idea For a FREAKS AND GEEKS Reboot

$

Before Paul Feig made Bridesmaids, The Heat, and became synonymous with Ghostbusters, he was responsible for one of the best "cancelled-before-its-time" shows ever made: Freaks and Geeks. With a cast that included James Franco, Jason Segel, Seth Rogen, Martin Starr, Samm Levine, John Francis Daley, Linda Cardellini, Lizzy Caplan, and Ben Foster, the funny, emotional, realistic high school series was practically a breeding ground for amazing talent that would go on to become big names in Hollywood. If you haven't seen it, the whole thing is on Netflix right now, and I'd recommend seeking it out.

But that was a long time ago. The show went off the air fifteen years ago, and Feig has moved on to other things. In a new interview with Esquire, though, the writer/director is asked about a potential reboot, and while he doesn't seem too keen on the idea right now, he does have an idea for a way he'd like to see the show adapted today:

Yeah, I want to do it as a musical. I think it would make a great musical, if we figured out how to do it great and not just as some blatant grab for money. It feels like the kind of thing that could be a fun, interesting, musical stage show because the emotions are so conducive to having musical numbers that are either very sad or very thought-provoking or very funny and goofy and weird. Music was such a big part of the series that it just feels very much like it could fall into that pocket. But this is something I've talked about wanting to do for years and years, and in order to do it right, you've really got to spend some time and figure it out.

And based on this next quote, it doesn't seem like he's interested in returning to revisit the series as a sequel or reboot on television until he gets the idea absolutely perfect:

I don't want to do anything to revisit Freaks and Geeks that isn't awesome, and so in general, I personally have stayed away from it. I still haven't had that idea where you're like, Oh my God, that's it. This is gold. This is the way to do it. People are going to love this. I'm so proud of what it was, the last thing I ever want to do, or want any of us to do, is ruin the memory of it. It's like every time I would watch—especially in the '90s, they did a lot of those kind of reunion shows. You know, you became more sad [watching them] than anything. That was different because our cast is still young and vital. Now if you do it, they're all movie stars and stuff, so it probably adds a different thing. But those other shows, you'd watch and go, Oh, they look so old. You know? I didn't want to visit them now, because I liked them back then. That's probably partly why I wanted to do a reboot of Ghostbusters as opposed to doing it as a sequel. It's saying, look, let's just let that thing exist. It's awesome. So let's not suddenly try to revisit it.

I see where he's coming from, especially with the Ghostbusters comment. While there's definitely a segment of the population that would love to see Murray, Aykroyd, and Hudson don the proton packs again, so much time has passed since the original film that no matter how hard the filmmakers tried to recapture that original magic, it just wouldn't be the same. It's the same reason I'm a little worried about the original trilogy cast showing up in The Force Awakens (although I do have faith in J.J. Abrams, so we'll see how that turns out).

What do you think? Would you like to see some kind of Freaks and Geeks reboot? Would you go see a musical version of the cult classic series?

GRAND THEFT AUTO Drama Being Developed by BBC Television

grand-theft-auto-drama-being-developed-by-bbc-television

The BBC is developing a really interesting drama based on the game Grand Theft Auto, but not in the way you are expecting. It will be a 90-minute feature that will focus on the story of the individuals who brought the hit video game franchise to life.

According to the report, the series is part of an initiative program to “increase digital skills among young people and help to fill the digital skills gap.” Apparently the UK is facing a significant skills shortage in that area, and it’s estimated that they will need 1.4 million "digital professionals" over the next five years.

Last year, GTA founders Sam and Dan Houser accepted the Fellowship Award at London’s BAFTA, and in regards to bringing GTA to life, this is what they said:

“Rockstar was founded [in Britain] with a mission statement that video games were the next mass-market entertainment medium, that they were uniquely interesting and powerful. And that we as a company would serve two masters to prove this fact, combining the production values of movies with an obsession of gameplay above all else. Back in 1999, we began shouting this to whoever would listen. A few people laughed at us for our hubris, both in ourselves and in the medium. Most people simply ignored us.”

I enjoy a good behind-the-scenes story, and I know nothing about the story behind GTA. It must be a pretty interesting one if they plan on making a movie about it.

We are excited to announce that GeekTyrant has officially partnered with the epic geek convention FantasyCon. They represent everything that we stand for, and everything that we are passionate about in the world of geekery.

Just to give you an idea of what we mean, Josh Patel, the founder of FantasyCon, had a 30-foot-tall dragon built for the convention. Once it was completed, the first thing that he did was ride the dragon, because what real geek wouldn't do that?

FantasyCon is an interactive fan experience that merges the renaissance and fantasy realms for an experience that is part amusement park, studio back lot, circus filled with incredible art, and entertainment such as masterwork paintings, live performances, battle tournaments, archery, gaming, and all kinds of other fun geek events!

This partnership between GeekTyrant and FantasyCon goes beyond anything we've ever done covering events like Comic-Con, WonderCon, or D23 Expo. GT will be interviewing world renowned artists creating the experience of FantasyCon (2016) and previewing the games, events, and performers. We will have also have exclusive access to all of the actors, directors, and stars that will be coming to FantasyCon.

It’s so cool for us to say that we can call FantasyCon our own, and that we are a part of something that’s so mind-blowingly awesome! On top of all this incredibly fun stuff, our partnership allows GeekTyrant to be heavily involved in the charity work FantasyCon does. On the first day of FantasyCon (2014) they bussed in kids from wish foundations, children's hospitals, and various charities so these kids and their families could experience FantasyCon for free. I can't think of another convention that's done that. They are always holding events throughout the year to support and raise money for several different causes.

This partnership will not change GeekTyrant; we've just unlocked the next level of awesomeness. There's more insane news coming soon, so stay tuned!

The next FantasyCon will take place June 2nd-4th in 2016 in Salt Lake City, UT.

New Trailer For EX MACHINA, Starring Two STAR WARS Actors

I have extremely high hopes for Alex Garland's sci-fi film Ex Machina, but I also fear it's going to be one of those movies that not enough people see or even know about. A24 is releasing the movie domestically, and though they're an awesome company, they're still relatively small compared to some of the bigger studios out there. In an effort to build awareness for the film, I put that Star Wars bit in the headline in the hopes of attracting some attention from people who may have otherwise not known that this movie ever existed.

The film, which received terrific reviews out of the South By Southwest Film Festival, stars Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac (both from the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens), and Alicia Vikander, and it arrives in theaters on April 10th. Check out the newest trailer below, and see some photos and clips from the movie here.

Alex Garland, writer of 28 Days Later and Sunshine, makes his directorial debut with the stylish and cerebral thriller, EX MACHINA. Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson), a programmer at an internet-search giant, wins a competition to spend a week at the private mountain estate of the company’s brilliant and reclusive CEO, Nathan Bateman (Oscar Isaac). Upon his arrival, Caleb learns that Nathan has chosen him to be the human component in a Turing Test—charging him with evaluating the capabilities, and ultimately the consciousness, of Nathan’s latest experiment in artificial intelligence. That experiment is Ava (Alicia Vikander), a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated––and more deceptive––than the two men could have imagined.

sharknado-3-gets-a-ridiculous-title-and-a-premiere-date

The SyFy Channel has announced that the title of Sharkanado 3 will be Sharknado: Oh Hell No! What else did you expect from the title? It fits the absurd over-the-top franchise. Chris Regina, SVP of program strategy at SyFy had this to say:

"We wanted this third title to boldly go where no shark movie has gone before. Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! embraces the larger-than-life irreverence that has made these movies so popular and entertaining.”

They also revealed that the two-hour premiere will be on Wednesday, July 22nd at 9pm. Anthony C. Ferrante is directing the movie, which is based on the screenplay by Thunder Levin. In this next chapter, the sharknadoes will be causing chaos in Washington, D.C. and then devastate the Eastern Seaboard moving toward Florida.

Sharknado 3 will cause mass destruction in Washington, D.C. before roaring down the Eastern Seaboard and into Florida, and stars Ian Ziering as Fin, Tara Reid as April and Cassie Scerbo as Nova. Joining them will be David Hasselhoff as Fin’s father, Gil; Bo Derek will play April’s mother, May; Ryan Newman will play April and Fin’s daughter, Claudia Shepard, and Jack Griffo will portray Claudia’s friend, Billy.

Additional cameo roles include Mark Cuban as the President of the United States; Ann Coulter as the Vice President; Michele Bachmann as herself; Jerry Springer as Mr. White, a manic tourist; Washington Redskins tackle Tom Compton as a reporter; *NSYNC singer Chris Kirkpatrick as a pool lifeguard, and Chris Jericho, who will portray Bruce the roller coaster ride operator.

Will any of you be tuning in to watch this thing? Also, I'm not sure if the poster above is legit or fan made.

Original Nintendo Console Cake Looks Real

The internet always seems to be flooded with crazy and cool wedding cake designs, but this creation featuring an original Nintendo Console is insanely radical. The cake doesn’t look like a cake at all! This thing looks like the real deal, and it comes complete with two controllers and a Tetris game cartridge, all of which is edible.

The cake was made by Cara Mia Cake located just outside of Melbourne, Australia. The couple it was made for have been together for over 10 years, and they say Nintendo was one of the first things they ever bonded over. They said:

“We spent hours playing Tetris when we first started dating 10 years ago. But our favourite game would have to be Super Mario Bros. I first got the Nintendo NES when I was a kid and I still have it today.
“We’ve always had a little healthy competition between us, although I’m pretty sure I used to beat him in Tetris more often than not.”

In case you’re wondering what’s on the inside, it’s a chocolate cake, filled with a cookies and cream white chocolate ganache. So not only does it look cool, but it sounds delicious!

Trailer For MAX, About A Dog Trained To Fight With The Marines

"We’ve got the Air Jordan of dogs.”

This is the trailer for Max, which is based on the true story of a dog that was trained to work with military units in Afghanistan. The story follows the dog's journey as he starts a new life with a new family in the U.S. after his handler is killed in action. If you're a dog lover then this trailer is really going to pull on your heart strings.

This is the kind of film that you see Disney making, but this movie is coming from Warner Bros., which is a little surprising. That studio isn't known for making movies like this. It was directed by Boaz Yakin (Remember the Titans), and  stars Josh WigginsLauren GrahamThomas Haden ChurchRobbie AmellLuke Kleintank, and Jay Hernandez.

Inspired by true events, Max tells of a military dog that is traumatized after his handler’s death in Afghanistan and is sent home where it is adopted by the bereaved family. He bonds with the soldier’s troubled 14-year-old brother, and together, they begin to heal one another and discover a secret about the soldier’s death.

Max opens up in theaters on June 26th.

COMMUNITY Is Back, But Is That A Good Thing?

$

0

When Community was cancelled by NBC, fans thought they had entered the darkest timeline. Dan Harmon's meta sitcom was always on the brink of cancellation because of its ratings, but "six seasons and a movie" went from a joke to a rallying cry as the show managed to, against all odds, be saved by Yahoo Screen on the final day before the actors' contracts expired. Now the first two episodes are available to watch (with a new episode coming every Tuesday until the season ends), and the results are...pretty mixed so far.

The first episode, "Ladders," wasn't an instant classic or anything, but I thought it did a solid job of re-establishing the status quo and introducing the character of Frankie, played by Paget Brewster. The show's cast members have been dropping like flies over the past couple of years, and it was no small feat to find a new addition to the group. I thought her personality fit well with the gang, exemplified by when she burst into their makeshift speakeasy accompanied by guys dressed up like Prohibition-era policemen (and one carrot, because they ran out of cop costumes). It was a fun, if familiar, dynamic: she's the straight woman trying to bring some sense of normality to the ridiculous whimsy of the group.

But the second episode...yikes. It's a known fact in the show's universe that Britta is the worst, but do her episodes have to be the worst, too? I was excited about this episode during the opening credits, because I saw that Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (who also plays Dean Pelton) were directing, and they helmed one of the best movies of the past few years, The Way Way Back. But they were saddled with a pretty lackluster script, and while I don't expect every episode of a show to be brilliant, Community has set a higher bar for quality in my mind because even its mediocre episodes are often better than this. I dug the introduction of Keith David's character, and the virtual reality gag was amusing enough, but the rest of it? Man, I could not have been less into it if I tried - and this is one of my favorite shows of all time!

So my answer to the question posed in the headline? Yes, I think it's a good thing Community has returned. I still love Greendale and the characters we've gotten to know over the past few years, and when Harmon and the writing staff are at the top of their game, the show reaches legendary status for me. I know they have some good stuff planned (another paintball episode is on the way), so I'm hoping that they just hit a bit of a rough start and will continue to improve as the series progresses.

What did you think of the first two episodes of season six? Do you think it should have returned, or would you have rather seen it go out earlier?
