Bad Robot Developing A Film About Thomas Edison at Paramount

J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions has a very strong track record when it comes to making movies. They've been responsible for Joy Ride, Mission: Impossible III, Cloverfield, Star Trek, Morning Glory, Super 8, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, and Star Trek Into Darkness so far, and they also have a little film called Star Wars: The Force Awakens coming out this year. Now we can add one more movie to their upcoming slate: The Wrap reports that the company is developing a movie about inventor Thomas Edison.

Edison, of course, invented the motion picture camera, the record player, a long-lasting light bulb, and about 1,000 other things over the course of his career. There aren't any details about this film project at the moment, other than the fact that the film "will depict the legendary inventor as a rugged eccentric genius." The report notes that The Weinstein Company also have an Edison biopic in development, so we'll see which of those studios beats the other to the punch on this. Could there be dueling Edison biopics in theaters at the same time, sort of like how The Prestige (in which Edison was an unseen villain) and The Illusionist came out in the same year? With the fierce competition in Hollywood, I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Witness a Bizarre Conversation in BUBBA HO-TEP Writer's BAR TALK Short Film

We've got a very entertaining an odd short film for you to check out today that comes from Bubba Ho-Tep writer Joe R. Lansdale. It's called Bar Talk, and it centers around two men sitting next to each other in a bar, and one of them strikes up a comically bizarre conversation about spies from Mars.

In a dusty Texas bar, a chatty stranger insists on striking up a conversation with the man sitting next to him. The more this out-of-towner talks, the more obvious it is he's not from 'round here. Heck, he's not even from this planet! Based on the short story by legendary author Joe R. Lansdale

It's a simple film that has no big special effects, but it still offers some great sci-fi entertainment that I think you'll enjoy. Especially if you're a fan of Lansdale's previous work.

Dan Aykroyd Says a "More Conventional Third Sequel" to GHOSTBUSTERS Might Still Happen

$

Dan Aykroyd has spent so many years talking about a new Ghostbusters movie, and now that one's actually happening, I can't imagine what that feels like for him - especially when the project won't see him, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson donning the proton packs as the main characters again. Paul Feig's all-female Ghostbusters sounds like a great idea to me - it's 2015, after all, and there's nothing about the Ghostbusters that demands they be men - but it seems like Aykroyd just won't give up the idea of stepping into the suit one more time.

On the Sirius XM show Unmasked with Ron Bennington (via /Film), Aykroyd says he still thinks a "more conventional third sequel" is in the cards:

Oh I’ve written… well, we have…I’ve written, well, there’s three drafts of the old concept that exists. And we’re going to be able to salvage some of it and use it. Yeah, we’re gonna be able to use it some day. Let’s get this one made and that will reinvigorate the franchise and then we’ll go on to maybe doing a more conventional third sequel as we were planning and another idea I have for it.

This guy just won't let it go, will he? If this were about anything other than a new Ghostbusters movie, I'd probably be commending his tenacity and can-do spirit. But I'm so tired of hearing about Aykroyd and the old gang coming back (or not) for more adventures that I've completely lost interest in seeing that version of the story at this point. He does have some nice things to say about Feig's upcoming movie ("I’m very happy with what [Feig’s] done. It’s very tasteful...he establishes the voices beautifully in these characters"), but from the sound of it, those of us who were hoping that this new movie would mean the end of Aykroyd's prophesying, I think we're out of luck.

10 Annoying Cartoon Characters From the 80s and 90s

$

Just because there are a ton of great cartoon series from the 1980s and 1990s that we enjoyed watching, doesn't mean they didn't have annoying characters that we didn't like. Some of these characters range from being completely meaningless to having voices that are like nails screeching across a chalkboard.

Recently, my kids were watching some kind of cartoon on the Disney Channel that was full of irritating characters. It got me to thinking about what characters I found annoying in animated shows I watched when I was growing up. So I came up with a list of ten of them that bugged the hell out of me. Look over my list and then let us know about any other character you found annoying.

Prince Adam and Cringer - He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

He-Man and Battle Cat were freakin’ badasses in Masters of the Universe. But it was pretty awful when they walking around in the series as Prince Adam and Cringer. I couldn’t wait for them to transform into He-Man and Battle Cat. Cringer was just such a cowardly comic relief with a terribly annoying voice, and Prince Adam was just insanely uninteresting. They should have just stayed He-Man and Battle Cat the whole time. Why would they even want to change back if they could be He-Man and Battle Cat?!

Starscream - Transformers

As much as I loved Transformers when I was growing up, I never could understand how an imbecile like Starscream was Megatron's right hand man. All he did was whine all of the freakin’ time, and he did it with that bloodcurdling screeching voice from hell. Yeah, he turned into a radical jet, but he was always trying Megatron’s patience and the patience of the viewers. Thankfully he eventually met his demise in Transformers: The Movie.

Kid Icarus - Captain N: The Game Master

This show was already pretty lame, but Kid Icarus took it to an even more obnoxious level. The character sounded like he was going through puberty, as his voice was constantly cracking. He also would end words and sentences with “-icus” all the time, which got really annoying, really fast. For example if he were to say my name he’d say “Joeyikus is Dopeius Maximus.”

Elmyra Duff -  Tiny Toons Adventures/ Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain

She just had the kind of personality that’d you love to smack the shit out of. Whenever she popped up in an episode of Tiny Toons Adventures, I would have to leave the room. Even the rest of the characters in the series didn’t like her! After all, she was always squeezing the life out of them. I know they were trying to make her funny, but I didn’t find her funny at all. This is just one of those characters I could have gone without.

Scooter - Challenge of the GoBots

This was such an insignificant character, who really did nothing for the GoBots. He was a weak and cowardly character that hardly contributed his team. He had a human friend Nick that always had to coax him into action when they found themselves in a tight situation because Scooter was too scared. I wasn’t a big fan of his voice either. He was all around completely worthless.

Angelica Pickles - Rugrats

I didn’t watch Rugrats that much, mostly because I thought the entire show was kind of irritating. If I had to pick one character from that show that stood out above the rest as being aggravating, though, it would have to be Angelica. She’s just a nasty, bossy, manipulative brat. As Garfield the cat put it best, she’s the kind of cartoon character that should be “drug out into the street and shot.”

Snarf and Snarfer - Thundercats

Even though I loved ThunderCats doesn’t mean I liked all of the characters in it. Snarf was one of those character I always cringed at when he came up on screen. He was just a terribly obnoxious character. You know who was even worse than Snarf though? His nephew, Snarfer. This character was always screwing up, and I don’t know how you make a voice more annoying than Snarf had, but they managed to pull it off with Snarfer.

Gary Oak - Pokémon

This bastard was a vindictive and conceited asshole. There’s nothing wrong with a little friendly rivalry, but this douche would drive around in his sports car filled with cheerleaders tearing down Ash’s self-esteem. What in the hell was his problem!? On top of that, his voice was annoying as hell.

Daniel Witwicky - The Transformers

Daniel was the son of the Autobots' human friend Spike. The kid was just annoying and a huge liability to the robots in disguise. He was always running off on his own and getting himself into trouble. So the Autobots would always have to abort whatever mission they were on to save his stupid ass from whatever mess he got himself into. Hey! He sounds a lot like Carl from The Walking Dead! Sorry, I couldn't find a clip featuring him.

Jubilee - X-Men

Not only was she a nuisance always getting in the way, but her mutant power was ridiculous. She could generate bright bursts of multi-colored energy from her fingertips that looked like fireworks. The effects of the power were pretty pointless as well. For some reason she also got some of the worst one-liners in the series. She was a very 80s character in a 90s show. She was my least favorite X-Men character.

Jerry Lewis Will Join Nic Cage and Elijah Wood in Cop Drama THE TRUST

We already knew that Nicolas Cage and Elijah Wood were teaming up to play corrupt cops in The Trust, but now Deadline reports that film legend Jerry Lewis has signed on to play Cage's father in the movie.

Lewis, who has appeared in films ranging from The Nutty Professor to The King of Comedy, is one of cinema's remaining living legends. He's currently 88 years old, and though in the later years of his life he's become more famous for hosting the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Labor Day Telethon, he still occasionally acts in film and television. This is a big "get" for directors Ben and Alex Brewer, and aside from the fact that a corrupt cop movie starring Cage and Wood sounds weird and kind of awesome, it'll also be great to see Lewis playing Cage's father. Will he try to mimic any of Cage's strange acting tics, I wonder? How great would that be?

A Rare Look Inside Warner Bros.' Secret Prop Archive

I recently went on a tour of the Warner Bros. studio lot in Burbank, California, and while it wasn't the best studio tour I've ever been on, they definitely have some cool stuff to offer. (See some photos at the bottom of this post, as well as the image above.) But across the pond in London, the studio has a secret archive warehouse that houses some of the coolest props from some of the biggest franchise in film history - from Harry Potter to The Dark Knight and beyond.

CNN's Max Foster (via NerdApproved) is the first reporter who's been allowed access with a camera crew, and you can see some of the props and costumes they have on display.

I'm really jealous he was able to stand in that Edge of Tomorrow mech battle suit. So cool. Anyway, here are some of my photos from the studio tour in Burbank, which had an awesome Batman exhibit on display with a ton of props and costumes from all of the modern era films.

Will Smith to Star in Original Action Thriller BOUNTY

Original concepts are at such a premium these days that when a new movie is put in development that isn't based on a comic, video game, book, or other existing property, I occasionally feel like I need to put that information in a headline. It's kind of sad when you think about it, but that's just the way our film culture is right now.

THR reports that Will Smith has found a new project. He's attached to star in Bounty, an original spec script from Sascha Penn that sounds like it has shades of The Fugitive, perhaps mixed with a little of Smith's own Enemy of the State.

The story is set in Boston and centers on a man (Smith) who is wrongly convicted of murder. He escapes from prison determined to prove his innocence—a nearly impossible task after the widow of the man he supposedly killed puts a $10 million bounty on him, dead or alive.

It'll be interesting to see Smith take on a comic book movie role in Suicide Squad (and its presumed sequels, spin-offs, and other DC movies that particular role could bleed over into), and then bounce back over into projects like this. I'm still a fan of his, even though he's had a few misses in recent years, but Bounty sounds like a cool project and one that could hearken back to his best days of being a blockbuster action star.

I would have never thought of mashing together Star Wars with the horror film Scanners, but Drew Krotzer did, and the scenes that he combines for this video work perfectly together. If you've ever wanted to see Darth Vader use the force to make someone's head bloodily explode, then this is the video for you! I've gotta say...this is pretty fantastic. Enjoy!

DEADPOOL Movie Casts its Leading Lady

Homeland and Gotham actress Morena Baccarin has landed the lead female role in director Tim Miller's Deadpool movie. She will star opposite Ryan Reynolds, who is playing the title character described as "an assassin who undergoes a procedure to cure his cancer that ends up leaving him twisted and scarred but also imbued with superpowers."

According to THR, Baccarin will be Deadpool's love interest in the story and her character "grapples with falling for a man with a hideously scarred face."

There is no solid information on who exactly she will be playing in the movie, but there's speculation that it's Vanessa Carlyle, a.k.a. Copycat. She was featured in the script that leaked out a few years ago, but the script could have changed between then and now.

Other actresses that were up for the role included Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black), Crystal Reed (Teen Wolf), Rebecca Rittenhouse (The Red Band Society), Sarah Greene (Vikings), and Jessica De Gouw (Arrow).

Baccarin is a solid actress, and I've been enjoying her character in Gotham. Regardless of who she'll be playing in the more, I'm sure she's going to be great.

Reese Witherspoon's WILD - Oscar Movie Review Special

I have been told all of my life to “enjoy the journey." My reply has ever been, “I can’t. I am destination oriented. I just wanna get where I’m going.” I freely admit that that is indeed a truly sad philosophy. Our lives, if you think about it, are all journeys, made up of moments great and small which ultimately make us who we are. I believe that that is the overarching message of the movie Wild. Once, some time ago, when I was bored, I asked my friend, “What shall we do now?” Her smart aleck reply purposely made to sound like new-agey balderdash was, “Let’s put on the ‘Cats’ album and be with the moment.” So, I suppose the key to "being with the moment" is to go ahead and be okay with who you are at any given moment, even if you are doing something rather stupid.

We have a nauseating hymn in our church called “Improve the Shining Moments." I loathe this song because life isn’t always a happy dance replete with a big fat bowl of cherries, though there is something to the tune's message of making our life moments count when we are in them, and if you screw up, try making the next moment better; “acknowledge, move on”, as they say. Wild certainly mirrors that philosophy.

Wild is a dramatic biographical film based on the 2012 memoir by Cheryl Strayed, “Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail.” Reese Witherspoon brought a stark gritty realism to the screen in her portrayal of Cheryl Strayed, whose life crashes and burns after the death of her mother, Bobbi Grey, played with a natural ease and warmth by Laura Dern. Her deep despair over the death plunges her into a rabbit hole of self-destruction - drugs, meaningless sexual encounters, etc. - which ends her marriage. When she finally realizes she has lost herself and has become a person she neither likes nor recognizes, she, with the encouragement of her ex-husband Paul and best friend Aimee (portrayed respectively by Broadway veteran Thomas Sadoski and actress/writer Gaby Hoffmann), decides to heal herself and get her life back by traversing some 1,100 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail. This was how Cheryl Strayed summed up her trek: “It was a huge physical undertaking for me to hike the PCT for 94 days, but it was also very much a spiritual journey. I turned to the trail as many people turn to the wilderness — at a time when I felt lost and desperate, when I was in a place where I didn’t know how to move forward. In many ways the trail taught me to literally just put one foot in front of the other again.”

Strayed’s 1995 journey of self discovery on the PCT began at the California/Mexico border, and ended in the Pacific Northwest. It was a trek in which she threw down a gauntlet and challenged Mother Nature to a duel. Mother Nature’s thrusts and parries included blistering heat, rattlesnakes, near starving hunger, freezing temperatures, snow, intense fatigue, the primal urges of a would-be rapist, thirst, and raging streams. She fought back with sheer iron will and a burning desire to finish what she’d started. Occasionally though, when things got rough, she was plagued with doubt by an inner voice that kept telling her it was okay to quit. Strayed’s is basically a story of a phoenix rising from the ashes. She successfully braved Mother Nature’s slings and arrows, accomplishing a feat that was light years away from her comfort zone. In her quest, Cheryl became a bit of a folk hero among fellow PCT hikers, not only for her determination, but also for things she wrote on notepads left at hiker checkpoint stations along the trail. These included not only her own thoughts, but snippets of poets like Emily Dickinson, Henry David Thoreau, and Robert Frost.

The moments of Cheryl Strayed’s life were captured masterfully as a stream of consciousness by Canadian director Jean-Marc Vallée. His brilliant editing is filled with dogged precision, zig-zagging back and forth between flashbacks, nightmares, dreams, and her experiences on the trail, and it grabs the viewer by the proverbial shirttails so that he is made also to feel her emotional pain, physical aches and pains, weariness, sickness after imbibing too much, her gratitude for little things like a hot shower, home-cooked food, a cool breeze, a song from a child, and joy in her ultimate triumph.

I must mention how very much I enjoyed the music in this film, and how well it fits each scene it accompanies. The soundtrack is more a collection of songs by varying artists than anything else, and includes, “El Condor Pasa” by Simon and Garfunkel, “Walk Unafraid” by folk duo First Aid Kit, “Suzanne” by Leonard Cohen, Billy Swan’s rendition of “Don't Be Cruel,” “Something About What Happens When We Talk” by Lucinda Williams, “Tougher Than the Rest” by Bruce Springsteen, “The Air That I Breathe” by the Hollies, and “Knowing What I Know About Heaven” by Guy Penrod.

Wild's Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominations for Witherspoon and Dern, respectively, are well deserved. They were both nominated for SAG Awards, but came away empty-handed from that awards ceremony. Reese Witherspoon also received a nod from the Golden Globes, a no-win for her as well. Other performances I enjoyed in Wild were provided by W. Earl Brown (Dan Dority from HBO’s Deadwood), playing a farmer named Frank whom Cheryl asks for food; Kevin Rankin (Breaking Bad and CBS’s Unforgettable), who plays a hiker in a state of nature, whom Cheryl happens upon bathing in the river, and who becomes a supporting voice for her; and one of my favorites, child actor Evan O'Toole, who plays Kyle, a young boy Cheryl encounters on the trail, who brings her to tears by singing “Red River Valley."

Wild, rated R for language and sexual content, is a decidedly good story, and a well-made cinematic effort. Cheryl Strayed, who consulted on Wild, felt it was snubbed by the Academy because it did not garner a Best Picture nomination. While I do agree it's a good story, I can also understand how it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Anyhow, that’s the way I see it.

Neill Blomkamp Says He Thinks An ALIEN Movie "Is Officially My Next Film"

I was just sitting here thinking about Prometheus again, because even though it's deeply flawed, that movie still has images that stick with me. But now it appears that a new entry into the Alien mythology is coming soon, and it's not Prometheus 2 - well, not yet, anyway. This is one that fans of the franchise should be super excited about.

District 9 director Neill Blomkamp released a bunch of concept art from an abandoned Alien project he'd been developing early this year, and then just last week mentioned that he might actually make a movie based on those designs if he felt up to it. Well now it appears that he's feeling up to it and has had some conversations with the folks at 20th Century Fox, because he just put the following image on Instagram with a telling caption:

Um... So I think it's officially my next film. #alien

This is excellent news, and I can't wait to see what he does with the property! We'll keep you updated with more information as it becomes available, but this should be a happy day for Alien fans everywhere.

Why Arcades Are Making A Comeback

When I was 14, I could often be found in malls. No, I never set foot in a clothing store. I dodged the perfume-wielding kiosk workers like they were Pac-Man ghosts, and we all know food court offerings are not what lured people to malls. Yet there I was, from open to close - in one spot. The mall arcade, playing Cruis'n USA.

This may sound sad to you, but it defined my childhood.

This may sound sad to you, but it defined my childhood.

If you were also a kid in the 1990s, chances are you spent at least one birthday party at an arcade or similar venue with at least a few cabinets featuring the hottest games. As soon as year 2000 hit, though, these places seemed to all but die off. Perhaps kids were too busy playing games at home (Duke Nukem, anyone?) No matter the reason, my favorite hangout met the same fate of so many other arcades..

Total destruction, leaving nothing but tumbleweeds of dust from what technology left behind.

Total destruction, leaving nothing but tumbleweeds of dust from what technology left behind.

Fast forward 20 years, now there's a growing trend that takes the kid-friendly environment out of the equation and combines the venue with something everyone over 21 can appreciate.

Enter the barcade, which is just what it sounds like: a hybrid of a bar and arcade, a.k.a. a place to enjoy and spend money on beer and video games at the same time. As small-town Nevada paper Elko Daily pointed out, barcades have been more of an East Coast thing over the past few years. Specifically, there are several you can find in New York and the surrounding area—like this one. Barcades are clearly headed on the Oregon trail, creeping west across America like a pixelated wagon train (with less dying of dysentery, I assume).

How Meta: I've drank a beer while playing the arcade classic, Beer Tapper.

How Meta: I've drank a beer while playing the arcade classic, Beer Tapper.

To those who have kept an eye on the arcades of the web, this rise in real-life arcades is nothing new. Most recently, the almighty Internet Archive leveled up their status as a digital library. In addition to finding all things web-related there, the site is now home to a slew of gaming options including, yes, a virtual arcade. The Internet Arcade is home to more than 900 games in total, all of which can be played in your browser, for free, whenever you want. I played Marble Madness for the first time in more years than I want to admit.

Before the Internet Arcade's existence, though, there were other options that provided even more serious gamers with the chance to raise the stakes. At the arcade section on Betfair, players have the chance to dig into a number of titles, some of which even hearken back to the best arcade games of the '90s. In particular, there's a Street Fighter II-themed slot that allows you to pick your favorite fighter and watch as he or she battles M. Bison.

You're not a real gamer until you've built a 2001: A Space Odyssey version arcade cabinet.

You're not a real gamer until you've built a 2001: A Space Odyssey version arcade cabinet.

Possibly most exciting (for me, at least) is the the DIY community of arcade aficionados that's been thriving for quite some time! For those unfamiliar with the premise, geek tyrants of arcade cabinets have started building them for use in their homes. In addition to costing less than buying an actual cabinet, this approach allows gamers to create any kind of machine that they want. You can take a look at some truly interesting DIY arcade projects on Instructables.

Could it be that we're all in the middle of another arcade boom that's doomed for destruction? Could Barcades be exactly what arcade gaming needs after all? Perhaps this hybrid approach will keep arcade games back in the public eye and, even better, breathe new life into them. That would make me happier than getting the high score on Space Paranoids.

New Trailer for Adam Sandler’s THE COBBLER

$

I used to be a huge Adam Sandler fan, but over the years his movies just seem to get progressively worse. I know a lot of you feel the same way, but I think his next film, The Cobbler, looks like it could actually be a decent movie.

He plays a shoe repairman who isn't happy with the life that he’s leading. While he’s feeling down on himself he comes across a magical sewing machine in the basement of his shop. He starts to repair shoes with the machine, and he comes to realize that each pair of shoes that he wears that is repaired by the machine gives him the ability to live in the body of the original owners of the shoes.

This seems like a very odd and offbeat type of movie, but that’s one of the things that I like about it.

The Cobbler is a warm and character-driven comedy that plays to the strengths of Adam Sandler’s and Thomas McCarthy's most commercial successes. Sandler plays a 4th generation shoe-maker who discovers a magical sewing machine in his father’s basement that allows him to transform into other people by wearing their shoes. Similar in theme to Tom Hanks' Big, Trading Places, and 13 Going on 30, The Cobbler provides the perfect vehicle for Sandler to exhibit his endearing and selfless boyish charm, taking him on a voyage of self-discovery and learning the importance of family via the magic of “walking a mile in another man’s shoes.” A journey that results not only in changing himself, but the world around him.

The film was directed by Tom McCarthy (The Station Agent, Win Win), and it also stars Steve Buscemi, Dustin Hoffman, and Ellen Barkin

Look for The Cobbler to hit theaters in a limited release on March 13th.

Beautifully Insane Japanese Trailer for MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

beautifully-insane-japanese-trailer-for-mad-max-fury-road

We've got a very high-energy Japanese trailer for George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road for you to watch today! It's basically a shorter version of the last trailer we saw, but there are some brief new shots included, and it's still crazy fun to watch! One of my friends has already seen the movie, and he says that it's even more badass than these trailers show.

The movie stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron as they embark on a large-scale adventurous chase sequence. The movie also stars Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Hugh Keays-Byrne, and Nathan Jones. Here's the synopsis:

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is the fourth film of George Miller‘s Road Warrior/Mad Max franchise co-written and directed by Miller. The post-apocalyptic action film is set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life.

Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order… There’s Max (played by TOM HARDY from The Dark Knight Rises), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos.

And… Furiosa (played by CHARLIZE THERON from Prometheus), a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.”

Mad Max: Fury Road opens on May 15th, 2015.

2 New Clips from CHAPPIE - “Burn to Ash” and “Not My Fault”

Sony Pictures has released two clips from Neill Blomkamp’s upcoming sci-fi robot thriller, Chappie. The first one features an intense conversation between Hugh Jackman and Sigourney Weaver that leads to a decision to take Chappie out and burn him to ash. The second clip gives us an action sequence involving a raid of military robots.

Now, as excited as I am for this movie, I'm way more excited about what Blomkamp will bring to the new Alien film that he's going to direct! If you hadn't heard already, he confirmed the news yesterday.

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there's one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.

The great looking movie comes out on March 6th, 2015.

Female Stormtrooper Cosplay Photo

Here's a cool cosplay photo featuring a female Stormtrooper. The model is actress Stacey Bender (TK-6683) from shows such as General Hospital and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The photo comes from Movie Pilot and the photo shoot was done by Ryan Crain and Mark Edwards. This is what they said about it in a statement:

"We are thrilled to present to you our take on an imperial 'FEMTROOPER.' Our goal was to portray this character as an attractive yet strong, battle-hardened member of the Star Wars Universe."

I don't think George Lucas would have called a female Stormtrooper a "Femtrooper," but it makes me wonder if he had any woman in those Stormtrooper costumes in the original films. You can find more Star Wars Girl photos on a fan page here, which Bender is also a part of.

SPAWN Might Be Included in MORTAL KOMBAT X

Looks like the roster of characters that we’ll be able to play with in Mortal Kombat X could include Spawn! As a long time fan of both Mortal Kombat and Spawn, this is some incredible news! It’s not set in stone at the moment, but according to Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, he has a deal with Warner Bros. to put him in the game if they want.

This is a universe that Spawn perfectly fits into, and this is what McFarlane had to say about the matter in a interview at Toy Fair 2015 with GamerFitnation:

“I need the brand of Spawn to be bigger than it is right now.” … “We actually have this short deal with [Warner Bros] so they might put him in there. But after the movie we'll pick and choose and do some really cool stuff.” “I'll be doing the movie. [...] I'll write, produce and direct it and we'll see where it goes from there.”

Yes, McFarlane is still talking about getting that new Spawn movie made. I would love to see it happen, but I gave up on it awhile ago. It just seems like there has been absolutely no movement on his Spawn film for several years. He has been writing that thing for-ev-er.

As for the character’s possible inclusion in Mortal Kombat X, Warner Bros. Interactive and NetherRealm have an option to include him in the game. Apparently. they have access to Spawn for a few other games as well. The ball is in their court on whether or not they want to use him. I hope they take advantage of the opportunity, because they could seriously do something badass with Spawn in this franchise.

Apparently there are around 720 Pokémon characters that have been created, and all of them have pretty whacked out and strange names. Have you ever wondered how the creators of these Pokémon characters come up with those names? Well, Pickled Comics/Mike Royer created a comic that offers us an amusing theory, and it brings together the Swedish language and Mexican restaurant menus.

Six character profile videos have been released for the fun looking sci-fi series reboot of Thunderbirds Are Go! They give us a rundown of all the International Rescue members that consist of the Tracy brothers as well as a new female pilot named Kayo.

All of the effects in the series were created by Weta Workshop, and so far from what I've seen, it looks like it's going to be great. You can see some of the practical effects that they've done of the movie here.

The cast is led by Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) as Lady Penelope, and David Graham (Thunderbirds 1965) is reprising his role as chauffeur and International Rescue agent Parker. Other characters include the unstoppable inventor Brains, who will be voiced by Kayvan Novak, while Tracy brothers Gordon and John are both played by Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Love Actually, Game of Thrones). Both the youngest and oldest Tracy brothers, Alan and Scott, will be voiced by Rasmus Hardiker, and the fifth brother, Virgil, will be played by David Menkin. Tracy Island matriarch Grandma Tracy is voiced by Sandra Dickinson, and master villain The Hood is played by Andres Williams. Some new characters will be introduced in the series, including Kayo, the Tracy brothers’’ friend and fellow island resident, who will be played by Angel Coulby, and Colonel Casey, voiced by Adjoa Andoh (Doctor Who).
