Review: HOT TUB TIME MACHINE 2 Fails to Make a Splash

$

The original Hot Tub Time Machine had a catchy hook, but once the insanity of the premise wore off, it ended up being a mostly passable comedy with a handful of decent jokes. Bereft of the first film's originality, Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is just a tired riff on what we've already seen. It's a standard, by-the-book sequel: take the same basic characters and put them in essentially the same situation they were in before, then tweak a few details to try to spice it up. Sure, it has a few funny moments, but does that justify spending another hour and a half with these characters? In this case, I don't think so.

After the events of the first movie, Lou (Rob Corddry) has become filthy rich after becoming a rock and roll god and "inventing" Google (in a move fitting for his massive ego, he calls it "Lougle"). Nick (Craig Robinson) is a famous musician, but through no talent of his own - the hot tub time machine has allowed him to simply beat other artists to the punch. (His rendition of Lisa Loeb's "Stay" got a big laugh from my audience.) Jacob (Clark Duke) wants approval from Lou - his father - serving as his butler at expensive parties but otherwise lounging around and getting high and jerking off all day. After Lou sustains a serious injury at one of his parties, the gang jumps back in the hot tub to track down his would-be assassin, but instead of going back in time, they wind up in the future - an uninspired version of 2025. Let's just say that in ten years, no one is going to be celebrating this fake future like they are with Back to the Future Part II this year.

The film's funny moments are few and far between, mostly relegated to clearly improvised bits like a game of "You look like..." that's ripped straight from Judd Apatow's "Know how I know you're gay?" thing from The 40-Year-Old Virgin. (The guys just stand around and make fun of each other's appearance for two or three minutes.) Adam Scott, who plays a relative of John Cusack's character from the first film, has some nice moments as an uptight cheeseball nerd, but his character isn't nearly as endearing as his dorky Ben Wyatt on Parks and Recreation. Here, he's the kind of guy who gets talked into doing crazy hallucinogenic drugs and almost ruining his wedding to his fiancee (an underutilized Gillian Jacobs).

And because this is a studio comedy produced in the modern era, it must be contractually obligated to have some sort of gross-out physical humor scene. After Melissa McCarthy dropped a deuce in a sink in Bridesmaids and Rose Byrne shot milk out of her bulging breasts in Neighbors, how do you top that? Hot Tub Time Machine 2 tries (and fails) with a scene in which a character's balls are filled with a medical substance, punctured with a needle, and then squirts liquid directly into the faces of two other characters. In another effort to be edgy, there's a rape sequence that plays out between two of the main characters...but the film tries to argue that it's OK because it takes place in a virtual environment.

Aside from those two instances, the movie is mostly unobjectionable, and plays out just as you think it will. Lessons are learned and bro hugs are given, but it doesn't take any real chances or cover any thematically interesting territory. It's a dumb, shallow comedy that doesn't have much to say, and if that's all you're expecting, then you'll probably laugh a few times and be fine with it. I was just hoping for something a little bit better than that, and now I wish I had my own hot tub time machine so I could go back and avoid spending time on a sequel that didn't quite do it for me. But if you do go see this in theaters, be sure to stick around for a 22 Jump Street style ending that does a good job of serving as either a set-up for a potential sequel or a wrap-up for the franchise.

See The Launch Trailer for THE ORDER: 1886

The Order: 1886 is available for the PlayStation tomorrow, and Sony has released a new launch trailer for the game. It has a very cinematic look, and I'm digging the insanity of the premise: men use futuristic technology in a centuries-old war in an attempt to defeat an ancient enemy of werewolf-looking creatures. It has a little bit of a steampunk vibe to it, along with the secret society aspect of something like Assassin's Creed, and the gameplay looks like it could be fun (although maybe slightly repetitive, if this trailer is any indication). 2 Stunning PRINCESS LEIA #1 Comic Covers By Alex Ross

Marvel Comics' relaunch of Star Wars has been a pretty big hit. I especially like all of the variant cover art that has been created for the series! I recently came across two variant covers by Alex Ross for Princess Leia #1, which is the first comic ever to be headlined by Leia. Both illustrations are freakin' amazing. I especially like the the one above though, with Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker.

The five-issue limited series comes from writer Mark Waid (Daredevil, S.H.I.E.L.D.) and artist Terry Dodson (Avengers & X-Men: Axis, Uncanny X-Men), and here's the story description:

When Princess Leia Organa was captured by the Empire as a Rebel spy, she never betrayed her convictions, even in the face of the complete destruction of her home world, Alderaan. When her rescue came, she grabbed a blaster and joined the fight, escaping back to the Rebel Alliance and helping strike the biggest blow against the Empire—the destruction of the Death Star. But in the aftermath of that victory, the question remains...what is a princess without a world?

The variant cover above will become available for pre-order on February 20th at 10am EST, exclusively at AlexRossStore.com. The site also offers variants for Star Wars #1 and Darth Vader #1.

Jay Hernandez Cast in Mystery Role in SUICIDE SQUAD

$

The Wrap reports that Friday Night Lights star Jay Hernandez has joined the cast of David Ayer's upcoming supervillain movie Suicide Squad, although exactly who he'll be playing is still unclear. Their report states that "it’s possible that he could be playing an inmate on the same cell block as The Joker," but that seems speculative at best.

Hernandez has been in a wide array of films including The Rookie, Torque, Hostel (and Hostel: Part II), and Quarantine - among others - but I've always found him to be a solid presence on screen. Here's hoping he's given a role that allows him to make a big impression and hopefully move up to bigger and better things. If nothing else, it should be cool for him to appear in a such a star-heavy cast opposite Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, and Jared Leto as the Joker. Viola Davis still seems to be in negotiations to play Amanda Waller, and rumor has it that Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor will show up in some capacity.

Are you looking forward to Suicide Squad?

Two Lovers Fight for Their Lives in Fantasy Animated Short - CLOUDRISE

two-lovers-fight-for-their-lives-in-fantasy-animated-short-cloudrise

Cloudrise is a breathtakingly touching and inspirational animated short film that was created by Denver Jackson. The film has a fantasy steampunk type of vibe to it, and the story follows two characters named Miko and Tenku as they are faced with the greatest challenge of their lives by fighting to stay together as their burning airship plummets out of the sky after it's attacked.

The project was created over the course of four months, and the creator had no illustration or animation training. His main focus and drive for the project was to tell a great story, and he certainly succeeded.

Set in a fantasy world above the clouds, Cloudrise follows a pivotal moment in the lives of two lovers as they face a great challenge. Watch as Miko and Tenku fight to survive an attack on their new airship and take the necessary measures to help each other. Hold on to your seat as you witness how far someone is willing to go to rescue the one they love. This is an action-packed short film that ties together various fantasy/science fiction influences.

I really loved this short, and I hope you do too,

Bruce Campbell Says ASH VS. EVIL DEAD Could Go 5 Seasons, Plus New Plot Details

Ash Vs. Evil Dead just might end up being one of the greatest things to happen to TV. Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Rob Tapert are currently in the process of developing the series, which will continue the dark and horrific adventures of Ash battling the Deadites.

Dread Central recently talked to Campbell about the series, and with it comes a few more details about the plot and Ash's current state of mind. The basic plot of the series was described as following Ash, who is forced to face is demons as the Deadites threaten to destroy mankind, but Dread has some additional information from the report that expands a little further:

“Having had a chance to read an early version of the pilot episode last year, I can concur. In it we are introduced to a nomadic Ash, a figure who’s not only haunted by traumatic memories but also terrorized by the unwelcome continuance of Deadite attacks, which have followed him to the myriad Midwestern trailer parks he’s been forced to call home. In an effort to eke out an existence and in keeping with his previous choice of career, the character spends his days working at Ted’s Superclub as a stock room trainee and, in true Ash fashion, his evenings chasing skirt in roadside bars.”

When talking about his character, Campbell says,

“I’m bringing everything to the table. It’s a feisty version of Ash, who’s grizzled and just wants to be left alone.”

But as we recently learned, Ash won't be left alone. He will be joined by two younger characters played by Ray Santiago and Dana DeLorenzo. Here's a brief description of those characters:

“Santiago will play the role of Pablo Simon Bolivar, an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash’s loyal sidekick and believes in Ash’s heroism even if Ash himself doesn’t.  DeLorenzo will play Kelly Maxwell, a moody wild child trying to outrun her past and who is reluctantly dragged into the fight against Evil with Ash and Pablo. Kelly finds a different kind of family with her fellow Deadite slayers.”

Campbell goes on to say that their presence in the show includes a larger plan that could possibly span five seasons!

“I was there during the casting process, and they’re very talented. Aside from the ensemble [aspect], they each needed to be able to hold their own because they’ll have their own series of missions. It’s an epic tale. How could you not [plan for that]? I’m a strong proponent of the ‘big picture’ plan, and we are planning for five seasons.”

Sam Raimi is directing the Ash vs. Evil Dead pilot, and the ten-episode series will premiere on Starz later this year. We'll fill you in on more details as they become available.

We've got an amusing parody video for you to check out that gives us a Princess Bride-themed parody of Karate Kid’s ending song, “You’re the Best” by Joe Esposito. Only this song is called "You're the Man (In Black)," and the lyrics have been cleverly changed to fit The Princess Bride

Princess Bride + Karate Kid = nostalgiagasm. This is a a parody of the ending fight song on Karate Kid set to clips from Princess Bride, and it made me feel like a 10-year old as I created it. Memories…

I also included their previous musical parody video that brings together Breaking Bad and Toto’s classic song "Africa".

Marvel's A.K.A. JESSICA JONES Adds Three More Cast Members

As the premiere date for Marvel and Netflix's Daredevil approaches (all episodes in the first season are available on April 10th), the studio's next TV project, A.K.A. Jessica Jones, is building up its cast. We know that Krysten Ritter will star as the title character, Mike Colter is playing Luke Cage, Rachael Taylor will play Jones' best friend, and David Tennant is playing the villainous Killgrave, and now THR brings word of three new names who have been added to the production.

The Originals actress Eka DarvilleThe Kings of Summer love interest Erin Moriarty, and All Saints and Once Upon A Time alum Wil Traval have signed on to join the Netflix series.

Darville will play Malcolm, a neighbor of Jessica’s whose life will cross with the private detective's in a surprising way. Moriarty will play Hope, a young girl who becomes a client of Alias Investigations, Jessica's business. Traval is playing a by-the-book New York Police Department officer.

Those of you who have read Alias, the comic on which A.K.A. Jessica Jones is based, might have a better sense of who these characters are than the rest of us, but my initial reaction to this news is that I'm really glad to see Erin Moriarty get some work on a high-profile show because she was fantastic in The Kings of Summer. We'll keep you posted with more on A.K.A. Jessica Jones as we get closer to that show's debut, which will happen at an undisclosed date later this year.

Oscar-Winning Movies Recreated Using Stock Footage

Dissolve has a fun video series in which they recreate movies using only stock footage from their service. It's self-promotion, sure, but it's done in a cool, quick way that doesn't make it feel like an advertisement. Instead, it serves as almost a trivia game of sorts; they provide fake titles for movies and the year they were released, and then it's on you to make the connection of which movie they're trying to recreate. Since the Oscars are coming up this weekend, they take aim at award-winning films throughout the years in this video.

Can you name all of the movies referenced?

Red-Band Trailer for Simon Pegg's Dark Comedy KILL ME THREE TIMES

red-band-trailer-for-simon-peggs-dark-comedy-kill-me-three-times

Simon Pegg takes on his darkest role yet in the upcoming dark comedy Kill Me Three Times. Pegg plays a ruthless assassin in the movie, who is hired to kill the wife of a rich man. More people with their own agendas end up getting involved with the situation, and it turns into a clusterf**k. This looks more like a thriller to me than a comedy, but it looks like a solid flick that I'll definitely check out.

The film was directed by Kriv Stenders, and produced by Laurence Malkin and Share Stallings, which is the team behind Death at a Funeral and A Few Best Men. Here's the synopsis:

Pegg plays the mercurial assassin, Charlie Wolfe, who discovers he isn’t the only person trying to kill the siren of a sun drenched surfing town (Alice Braga). Charlie quickly finds himself at the center of three tales of murder, mayhem, blackmail and revenge. With an original screenplay by James McFarland, the film also stars Sullivan Stapleton (as a gambling addict that attempts to pay off his debts through a risky life insurance scam), Teresa Palmer (as a small town Lady Macbeth), Callan Mulvey (as a wealthy beach club owner simmering with jealousy), Luke Hemsworth (as a local surfer fighting for the woman he loves) and Bryan Brown (as a corrupt cop who demands the juiciest cut).

Kill Me There Times will be available on iTunes/On Demand on March 26th and will hit theaters on April 10th.

Mondo Poster for GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH by RHYS COOPER

Artist Rhys Cooper created this magnificent piece of poster art that pays tribute to the 1990 film, Gremlins 2: The New Batch. This was such a fun horror movie franchise that the whole family could enjoy! I actually wouldn't mind seeing another sequel, but I hope to hell that it never gets remade like Hollywood has been trying to do. The last we heard about that remake is that it ran out of steam. Hopefully it stays that way.

The poster was made for Mondo, and it even has a glow in the dark variant edition. I included the original trailer of the movie below, along with more images of the poster.

First Trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's Event Series WAYWARD PINES

We've all been burned by M. Night Shyamalan so many times by now that when the trailers for Devil came out in theaters a few years ago (a movie he produced, not directed), there were audible groans from audiences. Shyamalan hasn't made a great film in years, so it makes sense that he'd turn to television to try to get his mojo back, and that's exactly what he's done with the upcoming Fox event series Wayward Pines.

The show's first trailer reveals a very Twin Peaks-esque vibe, telling the story of a federal agent who visits a small town to try to track down some missing fellow agents, but encounters some push-back from the local community. Matt Dillon, Melissa Leo, Terrence Howard, Carla Gugino, Toby Jonesand Juliette Lewis star, and the show premieres on May 14th, 2015. LUCIFER: Fox Orders DC Comics Pilot From UNDERWORLD Director

$

0

With Gotham being renewed for a second season, it looks like Fox wants to continue the trend of adapting comic book material for the small screen. Variety reports that they've ordered a pilot for Lucifer, a comic spin-off of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, with Underworld and Total Recall remake director Len Wiseman directing the pilot and Jerry Bruckheimer executive producing.

In the comic, Lucifer abandons his place in Hell and moves to Los Angeles, where he owns and operates a piano bar and opposes God's predestination. But in the show, he's going to help the L.A.P.D. punish criminals. What else did you expect from a network series? They turn practically everything into either a medical drama or a cop show, so it's not too surprising that they're looking to make Lucifer an aid of the police...despite the fact that it makes almost no sense for his character to do that.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't have a ton of faith in this. If it was on FX or AMC or a cable channel that allowed it to really tackle some of the comic's more interesting thematic material instead of trying to appeal to the broadest possible audience, then maybe I'd be looking forward to it. But Fox? I'm not convinced. What do you think?

James Marsden’s 13 Love Triangle Films - Cinematic Calling Cards

$

0

Cinematic Calling Cards is a new column on GeekTyrant that takes a fun look at actors and filmmakers with recurring themes or character types in their films, whether they be coincidental, serendipitous, or otherwise.

Today we shine a light on the Cinematic Calling Card of James Marsden. The actor has carved out a niche for himself (or has been pigeonholed, if you wanna be mean about it) as “The Other Man.” The average moviegoer can probably name three or four films where Marsden has gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to love triangles, even though he's never played a clear villain or a one-dimensional, cliché jerk. Despite almost always playing attractive, goodhearted, and well-intentioned characters, he has been in (at least) 13 films where someone is romantically caught between two people — and he has mostly been on the losing end of the situation, with only a few exceptions.

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for just about all of these films!

X-Men Franchise (2000-2014)

Marsden's work as the mutant Cyclops in the X-Men franchise spans 14 years and four films — X-Men (2000), X2: X-Men United (2003), X- Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). The first X-Men film serves as ground zero for Marsden's career as the good-natured and responsible guy who has the girl, and who, for some reason, audiences root against.

In a Love Triangle with: Famke Janssen, Hugh Jackman

Winner: It's a bit tragic for all three of the characters in The Last Stand, with Janssen killing Marsden in the opening minutes of the film, and Jackman killing Janssen at the end of it. Thankfully, the slate was wiped clean with the events of Days of Future Past, which brought back Janssen and Marsden, who make a brief appearance at the end of the movie, alive and once again in a relationship — let the love triangle recommence (sequels permitting)!

The Notebook (2004)

The film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' novel The Notebook taught us that love can create miracles… unless you’re James Marsden, of course. His character, Lon Hammond, is “handsome, funny smart, sophisticated, and charming,” but ends up in a body cast, cheated on, and without the girl.

In a Love Triangle with: Rachel McAdams, Ryan Gosling

Winner: Gosling, who also got the girl in real life, for a time.

The 24th Day (2004)

In The 24th Day, Marsden is once again "the other man," but in this case, Marsden is involved in a homosexual encounter with a married man that has some serious consequences and dire repercussions. After his wife dies in a tragic accident after learning that she is HIV positive, Tom (Scott Speedman) holds Dan (Marsden) responsible for infecting him and, in turn, his wife with the virus. He lures Dan to his apartment and holds him captive while he takes Dan's blood to be tested.

In a Love Triangle with: Scott Speedman, Thea Chaloner

Winner: Sadly, nobody wins in this R-rated after school special.

Heights (2005)

Heights isn’t the typical love triangle, it’s more of a love spider-web. Amidst the complicated and coincidental tangle of former, secret, and potential lovers that Marsden and his fiancé (Elizabeth Banks) are caught in, the bottom line remains the same: Marsden doesn’t end up with the girl — he gets the guy, though.

Love Web: Too many to name in this interconnected drama

Winners: Just watch the film, it's actually quite good. It definitely beats the hell out of Marsden and Banks' most recent outing together, Walk of Shame (2014), which nearly qualified for this list.

Superman Returns (2006)

Usually Superman swoops in to save the day, but in Superman Returns, he comes back after a five year absence from Earth to steal the girl. Marsden plays Richard White, the fiancé of Lois Lane and nephew of Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White. Richard's a pilot, a great dad to his and Lois' son, and an all around standup guy... he's just not Superman. Also, not to get all Maury Povich in here, but he is NOT the father.

In a Love Triangle with: Kate Bosworth, Brandon Routh

Winners: Amy Adams and Henry Cavill

Enchanted (2007)

In Enchanted, Marsden and Amy Adams embody the entire catalogue of Disney princes and princesses, only in this live-action/animated self-parody, they don't ride off into the sunset together. Even though Marsden doesn't end up with Adams, the story sets up a love square that lets everyone involved live happily ever after.

In a Love Square with: Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel

Winner: Everybody! Adams and Dempsey end up together in New York, and Marsden takes Menzel back to his kingdom of Andalasia.

27 Dresses (2008)

This cookie cutter rom-com is one of the few movies where Marsden is the underdog that the audience roots for. He also finally ends up with the girl... it’s just too bad that girl is Katherine Heigl.

In a Love Triangle with: Katherine Heigl, Edward Burns

Winner: Marsden marries Heigl and gets the TKO. I think Burns took a fall, though.

Straw Dogs (2011)

This remake of the 1971 film of the same name is yet another film where Marsden is in a relationship with Kate Bosworth (married this time) and must fight off her ex-boyfriend — only this time around Marsden is the one sporting Clark Kent glasses and saving the day.

In a Love Triangle with: Kate Bosworth, Alexander Skarsgård

Winner: Marsden takes down Skarsgård and his friends.

Best of Me (2014)

In Best of Me, Marsden rekindles a romance with his now married high school love and is caught in another Nicholas Sparks adaptation where he ultimately doesn’t end up with the girl. And in this case, it ends much more tragically for Marsden.

In a Love Triangle with: Michelle Monaghan, Sebastian Arcelus

Winner: Monaghan's son, whose life is saved by Marsden's organs.

The D Train (2015)

Premiering earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, The D Train marks Marsden's third film playing a bisexual or gay character in a love triangle. The film revolves around Jack Black, who comes to Los Angeles to convince Marsden, the most popular guy from their high school and star of a national ad campaign, to attend their 20-year reunion to boost attendance. Black gets more than he bargains for when a drunken night takes an unexpected turn for the straight, married man.

In a Love Triangle with: Jack Black, Kathryn Hahn

Winner: Audiences, when they get to see this movie.

Last month we learned that writer Gary Whitta finished the first script for the first Star Wars standalone film set to be directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), and then he stepped away. There's no official information on what the movie will be about, but rumor has it it could be a bounty hunter heist story.

gary-whitta-on-his-experience-developing-the-star-wars-spin-off-film

In a recent interview with Yahoo!, Whitta opened up a little bit about his experience of working on the project. He doesn't go into any detail about the film itself, but apparently it was the experience of a lifetime. This is what he said:

“It was absolutely surreal. I loved every minute of it.
“Star Wars was undoubtedly one of the most important formative influences on me as a child. It’s absolutely one of the main reasons why I became a writer and pursued a career in film, so to have had an opportunity to contribute something to the next chapter of its on-going legacy is just insane. I feel incredibly privileged to have worked on it.
“Every movie is a collaborative process. Star Wars was a little different in that I got to collaborate with people who are heroes of mine, who were part of creating the Star Wars movies I grew up loving. So that was a very special and unique experience for me.”

I hope we get some information on what exactly this spin-off movie will entail soon. I'm really curious to see where Lucasfilm's head is at with these movies outside of the "Episode" saga.

THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL - Oscar Movie Review Special

the-grand-budapest-hotel-oscar-movie-review-special

Usually, comedies get very little attention from the Academy for Oscar consideration. One might suppose Academy voters' mantra to be, “If it isn’t melodramatic, it can’t possibly be worthy of an an Oscar." Despite that, The Grand Budapest Hotel seems to be the exception to that rule. It is not only nominated for Best Picture, is up for an Oscar in the Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup and Hair categories as well. This film is definitely 3M: part Mel Brooks, part Marx Bros., and part Monty Python. I found myself laughing a lot as I watched. It is absolutely madcap in places. This picture was shot in Germany, and was written and directed by American screenwriter/director Wes Anderson. It is loosely based on the writings of Austro-Hungarian author Stefan Zweig.

GBH begins with a young girl visiting the grave of “The Author” (Tom Wilkinson), a national hero in Zubrowka, a fictitious Alpine republic. She then opens a book by the Author, and starts reading. The book is a narrative of the Author’s stay at the Grand Budapest and his visit with the hotel’s mysterious owner, Zero Moustafa (F. Murray Abraham) in 1968, when the hotel is way past its prime. The younger version of “The Author,” interviewing the hotel owner, is played by Jude Law.

Ralph Fiennes stars in The Grand Budapest Hotel as its first, and very foul-mouthed concierge in 1932, Monsieur Gustave H, who does absolutely anything and everything for the monied hotel guests. One of these guests is 84-year-old Madame Céline Villeneuve Desgoffe und Taxis (Tilda Swinton), with whom he spends the night on her last visit to the hotel. Madame is fearing for her life, and is in sore need of comfort from Gustav, but the first thing out of his mouth when he sees her is that he is physically repulsed by her new color of nail polish. This is just one of the many comedic moments carried out with great aplomb by Fiennes. Madame dies under mysterious circumstances shortly after her liaison with Gustav. Her evil son, Dimitri (Adrien Brody), and his equally evil henchman, J.G. Jopling (Willem Dafoe), manage to frame Gustav for Madame's murder, and he is subsequently imprisoned. Gustav is aided and abetted in his antics, and also freed from prison by newly employed Lobby Boy, young Zero Moustafa, an orphaned war refugee, aptly portrayed by Tony Revolori, who draws his pencil mustache on his upper lip every morning.

Another of my favorite roles in GBH is feline-loving lawyer Deputy Kovacs, who fits Jeff Goldblum like a glove. Goldblum is the ultimate master of deadpan looks and throw away lines. I could not stop laughing when, with an incredulous lifting of the finger, Kovacs asks, “Did he just throw my cat out the window?”

My favorite thing about the piece was the myriad cameos by both European and American film stars. Actors love to have fun, so it’s as if they lined up and begged to be in this movie; Harvey Keitel, Mathieu Amalric, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, and Owen Wilson are part of the list.

Although I found myself guffawing all through this movie, I am rather on the fence about recommending it to just everybody. I have spent a good long time involved in journalism and show business, and so I am no prude, but in The Grand Budapest Hotel, there is a lot extremely foul, foul language, and strong verbal, albeit non-visual sexual content, which left me cringing a bit. The “R” in its rating most definitely stands for raunchy! In my view, most of this was patently unnecessary for carrying the story forward. It takes more creativity maybe, but great - and, I might add, hot and steamy - adult stories can be portrayed without the crutch of gutter-speak and graphic content. Be that as it may, this picture is funny, funny, funny!  I hope it does well at the Oscars this Sunday! Anyhow, that’s the way I see it.

MAD MEN - Trailer & Images For The Show's Final Season

Matthew Weiner's highly acclaimed AMC drama Mad Men is coming to an end, and now we have our first look at the trailer and some images from the last half of the final season. It looks like 1970s style has invaded the show in a big way, and the flowery garb is a sharp contrast from the slick, cool suits of the early '60s. The fifth season was my favorite, and that's where I think the show may have hit its peak, but each episode contains at least one aspect that's worth discussing, and I feel like that's one of the signs of a truly great television show. The cinematography is gorgeous, the characters are well-drawn and compelling, and I'm glad that Weiner was able to end the show on his own terms and have enough time to properly bring this story to a close.

Mad Men returns on April 5th, 2015.

Director Zack Snyder has unleashed a photo giving us our first look at Jason Momoa as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. You can't deny that the guy looks completely badass in the role. I like the character design. It's pretty cool and different than what you might expect from this character. It definitely fits the style of the cinematic universe that Warner Bros. and Snyder have created.

The image came along with the caption, "There is only one true King. #unitetheseven." The "Unite the Seven" hashtag most likely refers to the Justice League characters who will come together to help save the world from villainous forces, but it could also be in reference to the seven relics of Atlantis.

Aquaman will first appear in the March 25th, 2016 release of Batman v Superman, then will be in Justice League Part One in 2017, followed by the solo Aquaman movie in 2018 and then in Justice League Part Two in 2019.

What do you all think of Momoa's Aquaman look? This could be the first of several character posters to be released, so stay tuned.
