Video Tribute to '80s Teen Movies

$

This week marked the 30th anniversary of John Hughes' teen classic The Breakfast Club, so YouTuber Robert Jones took the opportunity to create a video tribute to the teen films of the 1980s to celebrate. The '80s really were the best decade for teen films, because it was a time when studios largely weren't as risk-averse as they are now and they felt like they could allow young actors to carry entire movies on their shoulders without always having to rely on ridiculously over-the-top premises. Also, while there were definitely a fair amount of sequels (the late 70s ushered in the era of the blockbuster, after all), not every movie was eyed as a potential franchise, and young adult novels weren't being written for the sole purpose of being source material for an eventual movie.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver has quickly become a staple in my house, not only because of Oliver's enjoyable humor, but because of his incisive and revealing "big issues" he covers every week. From blowing the lid off the Miss America pageant to detailing why net neutrality matters, Oliver presents information in an in-depth, detailed way that even people like Jon Stewart don't have time to match. It's one of the elements that makes Oliver's show stand apart from its contemporaries, and while he can admittedly be a little grating on occasion, it's totally worth it when he ramps up and really gets going on a topic he's passionate about.

So I'm glad to relay the news that HBO has renewed the series for two more seasons of 35 episodes each, with the third season airing in 2016 and the fourth in 2017. Do you watch the show? Are you a fan? Let us know below.

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 17, 2015 – HBO has renewed LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER for its third and fourth seasons, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. Consisting of 35 shows apiece, season three will run on HBO in 2016, to be followed by season four in 2017.
“We are incredibly proud to have John as part of the HBO family,” said Lombardo. “His unique ability to deliver socially significant commentary week after week, along with his innate comedic brilliance, puts John in a class by himself.”
Presenting a satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events, as well as addressing broader issues, LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER returned for its 35-episode second season Feb. 8, debuting new showsSunday night (11:00-11:30 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO.
The show is the only weekly news-oriented comedy series to be presented on Sunday night. Taped in New York a few hours before it debuts on HBO, the show features a mix of Oliver’s topical commentary on the previous week’s events, pre-taped pieces and occasional guests.
In the first season, which concluded last November, Oliver covered a wide range of topics, from net neutrality and Uganda’s anti-LGBT laws, to Miss America, climate change and civil forfeiture abuse by the police.
LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER has just received a Writers Guild Award in the category of Comedy/Variety (Including Talk) – Series.
Hailing LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER as “2014’s best show,” the Huffington Post called it “one of the defining conversation starters in both popular culture and news media,” praising “a winning star, astute tactics and a self-awareness that’s remarkably on point.” In addition, it was named to “best of” lists for the year by the AP, the Los Angeles Times, the Hollywood Reporter, TIME, Vanity Fair, the Boston Globe, the Detroit News, Rolling Stone and theSan Francisco Chronicle, among many others. AMERICAN SNIPER - Oscar Movie Review Special

If you live in either U.S. entertainment hub - Los Angeles or New York - you just might hear folks humming “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” in January and February. Why? Not because the “ethical atheists” are celebrating solstice, nor is it Christmas freaks who can’t let go of the holidays. It’s simply awards season, that lovely time of year when the entertainment industry rolls out the red carpet for itself, and pats itself on the back for all its doubtless great contributions to humanity during the previous year. There’s the Golden Globes, the People’s Choice Awards, the Grammys, the SAG Awards, etc., but the Queen Mother of all the awards ceremonies is the Oscars; awards for excellence in cinematic achievement. Up ‘til 2013 the actual name was the Academy Awards. It was then the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences changed the official name to The Oscars. “Oscar” for some reason makes me think of hot dogs, and lunch meat. Hmm, I wonder why? The term “Oscar” for an Academy Award has been around since the early '30s. Actress Bette Davis claimed credit for the name which she supposedly garnered from her first husband, Harmon Oscar Nelson, a band leader. I wouldn’t doubt that since Ms. Davis was a truly pushy broad. Most likely though, “Oscar” came about via Margaret Herrick, then Academy Executive Secretary, who upon seeing the statue for the first time, said it brought to mind a cousin of hers. No matter which is the real scenario, the name certainly stuck. The Oscar trophy itself is made of gold-plated britannia on a black metal base, it is 13.5 in tall, weighs 8.5 lb and depicts a naked knight with amorphous genitalia rendered in Art Deco style holding a crusader's sword standing on a reel of film with five spokes. The five spokes represent the original branches of the Academy: Actors, Writers, Directors, Producers, and Technicians.

The first Academy Awards ceremony took place in 1929 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, and lasted only fifteen minutes, as there were only twelve categories. The “Outstanding Picture” award went to the silent 1927 WWI epic, Wings, starring Buddy Rogers (3rd husband of Mary Pickford) and Clara Bow (the “It Girl”). It was also the film that launched Gary Cooper’s career, though he only had one scene. This picture was controversial and groundbreaking for a number of reasons. First, it cost two million dollars to make - the most expensive film ever made at that time - featured some 3500 extras, 300 planes, and was six months in the making when most feature length silents were in the can after just one month. It was lauded for its special effects and the realism of the battle scenes, and was long the standard by which subsequent war movies were measured. It was the first wide-release motion picture to contain nudity, exposing the hindquarters of a group of men, lined up for physicals (the first step in becoming WWI fighter pilots), and there is a brief glimpse of Clara Bow’s bare breasts in a scene where she is changing clothes. Another thing that raised eyebrows was the fraternal kiss between Jack Powell (Rogers) and David Armstrong (Richard Arlen), when David lies dying in Jack’s arms. In the scene where all the ace pilots are celebrating in a Paris night club, they used actual champagne in the filming. Rogers, who was not a drinker and had never had champagne previously, became actually roaring drunk very quickly; a case of method acting taken to the extreme. “Wings” would probably be rated PG today...maybe PG-13 for violence.

Let’s move ahead 80 odd years to the present, and two or three blocks east of the Hollywood Roosevelt to the Dolby Theater at Hollywood and Highland, where we are just days away from Oscars 2015. One of the movies nominated for Best Picture is American Sniper, yet another war movie. Sniper is based on the life of Chris Kyle from his autobiography, “American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History," and was adapted from the book by screenwriter Jason Hall. It stars Bradley Cooper (Kyle), who is a Best Actor Oscar nominee for his work in this picture. The film also stars Sienna Miller (Foxcatcher) as Chris Kyle’s wife, Taya. Not only is it nominated for Best Picture and Best Actor, it is also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing. The film was ignored by the Golden Globes, and the SAG Awards, but that is most likely politics more than anything else. Many in the oh-so-pretentious and politically correct filmmaking community consider Clint Eastwood, one of the producers and the director of American Sniper, a pariah. In my own case, if I see Clint Eastwood’s name on a project, I want to see it because he is a master storyteller and has an uncanny knack for reaching an audience.

The backdrop for this film is the Iraq War. The viewer is engaged from the first scene where Kyle, a Navy SEAL has his gun sites on a couple of insurgents. As he takes the shot we are immediately transported back to his boyhood, a brilliant piece of editing, where he fells a deer, hunting with his father, showing us that he was a crack shot from a young age. Next, we find him somewhat older riding the rodeo circuit with his younger brother. In this same period, he sees the news of the 1998 bombings of American embassies in Tanzania and Kenya, and feels duty bound to join the armed forces. He soon goes into Navy SEAL training. After completing his training, he meets Taya Renae, who subsequently becomes his wife. Their time together after the nuptials is short-lived as he is deployed to his first tour in Iraq. Chris ends up fulfilling four tours in the Iraq war. One thing that kept him reupping, other than his patriotism and sense of duty, is his desire to exact revenge on an enemy sharpshooter dubbed “Mustafa,” played adroitly by Sammy Sheik. In the final battle scene of the film, Kyle obtains his desire and takes Mustafa out with a million-to-one shot of some 2100 yards. Unfortunately the kill shot tips off a large contingent of armed enemy to their whereabouts. They realize it’s highly unlikely they will survive the attack. In the midst of this, Kyle makes a tearful call to his wife telling her he is ready to come home. The unit ultimately escapes under cover of a sandstorm. By the time Chris Kyle comes home for the final time, he has become a legend in the U.S. armed forces, having 225 kills under his belt; 160 confirmed by the Department of Defense. This gives him the dubious distinction of having been the deadliest sniper in all of U.S. military history.

Wings and American Sniper join the ranks of other war films such as The Hurt Locker, Saving Private Ryan, Pearl Harbor, and Catch 22 in portraying the devastating personal toll war takes on soldiers and their families. Some may take the simplistic view that Sniper is just a "hurrah for our side, kick the crap out of the bad guys" motion picture. I admit to having a liking for those type of flicks, but American Sniper is so much more. If you take a really hard look at it, it is an anti-war movie if ever there was one. It is a very personal look at the Iraq War through the eyes of war hero Chris Kyle and his family. The emotional toll on them was immense; he suffered post traumatic stress, and familial withdrawal, etc. Realizing he could lose his family, he opted for therapy to heal his war wounds. Part of his healing process included counseling and lending a helping hand to other returning war veterans, which eventually cost him his life in February of 2013.

Eastwood was the perfect director for American Sniper, and in this writer’s opinion the film certainly deserves the best picture nod. It is rife with just the right amounts of humor, pathos, and spine-tingling adventure. Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller were absolutely great as Chris and Taya Kyle. Their performances rang a crystal clear truth of people conflicted, torn by war with duties to country, to family, and ultimately to themselves. There is also a quick glimpse of the same type of conflict on the other side between Mustafa and his wife, as he is taking off to have a go at Kyle for the last time. There is no dialogue, but the body language between the two speaks volumes. Cooper’s performance in this picture has garnered him his third Oscar nomination in a row. 87 years earlier, the Best Actor Oscar was presented to Emil Jannings at the first Academy Awards ceremony at the Hollywood Roosevelt. This Sunday night we shall see how Bradley Cooper, Clint Eastwood, and American Sniper fare at the Dolby Theater when the envelopes are opened.

Colin Firth May Return For KINGSMAN 2

(Major spoilers for the first Kingsman film ahead.)

I really enjoyed Kingsman: The Secret Service, Matthew Vaughn's send-up of spy movies that is currently in theaters. You can read my full review here. Vaughn's been talking about the idea of a sequel, but one thing I didn't expect was for Colin Firth to return in any capacity. He was great as Harry Hart, and I'd love to see more of him, but it seemed pretty clear that he was shot in the head by Valentine in the first movie.

Vaughn spoke with USA Today about the possibility of Firth returning:

“A lot of people are very upset that Colin might not be in the sequel but I’m coming up with ideas at the moment. If people buy tickets in America, I’ve got a feeling we’ll figure out a way for having Colin back.”
“The sequel will be ‘This is the modern-day gentleman spy.’ Because Harry isn’t. Harry even says, ‘There is a reason why we’ve developed weak chins.’ He said that meaning, ‘Look at us, we need to get new blood into this system,’ and that’s what Eggsy is. I joke that we’ve made the prequel to the Eggsy movie.”

Hey, if Phil Coulson survived what appeared to be a fatal stabbing in The Avengers, I suppose just about anything is possible. But it would take some serious explanation as to how Hart survived a headshot in a parking lot to convince fans that he's still alive. And this is assuming A) a Kingsman sequel is even greenlit in the first place, which it currently hasn't been, and B) that Firth himself would sign on to reprise his role. So there's a lot that remains up in the air at the moment, but I think everyone who saw Kingsman - which should be everyone, because it's great! - would be down to see more of Firth kicking ass.

Director Bryan Singer has announced that Kodi Smit-McPhee (ParaNorman, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) has officially been cast as a young version of the mutant Nightcrawler in X-Men: Apocalypse

Smit-McPhee is a talented young actor who seems like he would do a fantastic job in the role. He will join James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Rose Byrne, and Nicholas Hoult who are set to reprise their roles in the film, as well as newcomers Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, and Tye Sheridan, who will be playing young versions of Storm, Jean Grey, and Cyclops. Oscar Isaac will be taking on the role of the villain Apocalypse.

Nightcrawler was created by Len Wein and Dave Cockrum and made his first comic book appearance in 1975 in Giant Size X-Men #1. Alan Cumming previously played an older version of Nightcrawler in Singer's X2, and he was awesome.

X-Men: Apocalypse is being written by Simon Kinberg from a treatment by Mike Dougherty, Dan Harris, and Simon Kinberg. The movie hits theaters on May 27th, 2016.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES Plot Synopsis

Disney has announced that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has officially moved into production, and they’ve also released the first official plot summary for the film.

Kon-Tiki directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning are at the helm of this project, which gives me a great deal of hope that it will be good. Johnny Depp will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, and he will be joined by Javier Bardem, Kaya Scodelario, and Brenton Thwaites on his new adventure.

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

The movie sounds like it has potential to be fun, and I hope that it turns out to be better than the last three movies. I know a lot of our readers might be turned off by this franchise, but the directors developing it are extremely talented, which is why I hold out hope.

Dead Men Tell No Tales is set to be released in theaters on July 7th, 2017, and here’s the press release with some additional information:

QUEENSLAND, Australia (February 17, 2015) – Production has commenced on location in Australia on Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ epic comedy adventure “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” directed by Espen Sandberg & Joachim Rønning (“Kon-Tiki”), the fifth entry in the blockbuster franchise inspired by the classic Disney Theme Parks attraction, which has reaped $3.7 billion in worldwide box office. “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” will film entirely at Village Roadshow Studios and on locations within Queensland, Australia.
Johnny Depp returns to his iconic, Academy Award®-nominated role of Captain Jack Sparrow, one of the most beloved characters in motion picture history, newly joined by Oscar® winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Skyfall”), rising young stars Kaya Scodelario (“The Maze Runner,” British television’s “Skins”) and Brenton Thwaites (“Maleficent,” “The Giver”) and Golshifteh Farahani (“The Patience Stone,” “Exodus: Gods and Kings”). Rejoining the action are Academy Award winner Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs and Stephen Graham as Scrum.

“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and written by Jeff Nathanson (“Catch Me If You Can,” “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”). The executive producers are Chad Oman, Joe Caracciolo, Jr. and Brigham Taylor.
Joining Bruckheimer, Sandberg & Rønning for the swashbuckling new voyage is a first-tier group of award-winning behind-the-scenes artists—many of them new to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” family—including director of photography Paul Cameron (“Gone in Sixty Seconds,” “Déjà Vu,” “Collateral”), production designer Nigel Phelps (“Pearl Harbor,” “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” “World War Z”), costume designer Penny Rose (all four “Pirates of the Caribbean” films), visual effects supervisor Gary Brozenich (“The Lone Ranger,” “Edge of Tomorrow”), Oscar®-winning special effects production consultant John Frazier (nine Jerry Bruckheimer films and dozens of others) and special effects supervisor Dan Oliver (“Mad Max: Fury Road,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”), supervising stunt coordinator R.A. Rondell (“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1”) and stunt coordinators Thomas Robinson Harper (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) and Kyle Gardiner (“San Andreas,” “Kingsman: The Secret Service”), Academy Award®-winning makeup and hair designer Peter Swords King (“The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” trilogies, “Into the Woods”) and film editors Joel Cox ( “Unforgiven,” “Million Dollar Baby,” “American Sniper”) and Gary D. Roach (“American Sniper”).
The exciting filmmaking team of Sandberg & Rønning directed “Kon-Tiki,” the critically acclaimed story of famed explorer Thor Heyerdahl, which was nominated for both an Academy Award® and a Golden Globe Award® for Best Foreign Language Film from their native Norway. Following their work as award-winning commercial and music video directors, Rønning and Sandberg directed the World War II action drama “Max Manus: Man of War” before taking on “Kon-Tiki.” Most recently Rønning and Sandberg served as executive producers and directed the first two episodes of Netflix’s big-scale mini-series “Marco Polo,” which they filmed on exotic locations in Malaysia, Kazakhstan and Venice. A second season was recently announced for “Marco Polo,” with Rønning and Sandberg continuing on as executive producers.
First in partnership with Don Simpson, and then as the chief of Jerry Bruckheimer Films, Bruckheimer has produced an unprecedented string of worldwide smashes, impacting not only the motion picture and television industries, but mass culture as well. His film and television productions have been honored with numerous awards and nominations, including six Academy Awards®. In addition to his prolific television credits, Bruckheimer’s films include “Top Gun,” “Beverly Hills Cop,” “American Gigolo,” “Flashdance,” “Bad Boys,” “The Rock,” “Armageddon,” “Remember the Titans,” “Pearl Harbor,” “Black Hawk Down,” “National Treasure,” “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,” “The Lone Ranger” and “Deliver Us From Evil.” He is the producer of all four previous “Pirates of the Caribbean” films.

Here's an entertaining video that mashes together scenes from the films Predator and Forrest Gump. The result is a scene in which Predator looks on as Dutch and his team of mercenaries take on Gump and Lieutenant Dan in a heavy gun battle in the forrest. The video is a few years old, but this is the first time that I've seen it. It was sent in to us by its creator, Drew Krotzer. It's a fun mashup that I think you'll enjoy.

Scarlett Johansson to Star in Thriller THE PSYCHOPATH TEST

scarlett-johansson-to-star-in-the-psychopath-test-thriller

Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment are developing a psychological thriller called The Psychopath Test. It will be an adaptation of the book written by Jon Ronson (The Men Who Stare At Goats), which Kristin Gore (former Harvard Lampoon editor and SNL writer) is set to write the script.

Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, Austin Powers) is attached to direct, and Scarlett Johannson is set to star in the Brain Grazer-produced movie. This seems like an interesting project for everyone involved, especially Roach, who is mostly known for directing comedies. This seems like it will be a very different kind of project for him, which is good. As for Johansson, I have no doubt that she’ll be fantastic. This could really be a really great role for her.

Here’s the description of the book to give you an idea of what the movie will be about.

They say one out of every hundred people is a psychopath. You probably passed one on the street today. These are people who have no empathy, who are manipulative, deceitful, charming, seductive, and delusional. The Psychopath Test is the New York Times bestselling exploration of their world and the madness industry.
When Jon Ronson is drawn into an elaborate hoax played on some of the world’s top scientists, his investigation leads him, unexpectedly, to psychopaths. He meets an influential psychologist who is convinced that many important business leaders and politicians are in fact high-flying, high-functioning psychopaths, and teaches Ronson how to spot them. Armed with these new abilities, Ronson meets a patient inside an asylum for the criminally insane who insists that he’s sane, a mere run-of-the-mill troubled youth, not a psychopath—a claim that might be only manipulation, and a sign of his psychopathy. He spends time with a death-squad leader institutionalized for mortgage fraud, and with a legendary CEO who took joy in shutting down factories and firing people. He delves into the fascinating history of psychopathy diagnosis and treatments, from LSD-fueled days-long naked therapy sessions in prisons to attempts to understand serial killers.
Along the way, Ronson discovers that relatively ordinary people are, more and more, defined by their most insane edges. The Psychopath Test is a fascinating adventure through the minds of madness.

It’s a little hard to tell what exactly is going on with this figure, but it looks like it's going to be an extremely awesome toy! Especially if it actually moves around like that.

We don't know much else about the toy other than what is in the video. According to Spin Master, the figure should be released sometime in the fall of 2015.

Huge SPOILER for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Regarding a Main Character

Well, you clicked on a link with the words "HUGE SPOILER" in the title, so you know what you are getting yourself into. Before I go any further, I'll give you you one more chance to turn back. It involves the death of a major character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and how that character dies.

Still here? Ok. None of the following information has been confirmed by the studio, but it comes from the site Making Star Wars, which has offered a ridiculous amount of information regarding the highly anticipated film. They say that this intel comes from their most "trusted source," and then they say the scene that has been revealed has been verified "as having been shot at Pinewood."

This is something that I've seen fans speculate about, but now it looks it it will actually happen. I have to admit, I wasn't really surprised by this news, but here we go....

.

.

.

.

"Han Solo is killed off in the film, and here are the details:

  • This sequence takes place on the ramparts of The Evil Castle.
  • Han Solo is hiding.
  • He decides to reveal himself to Kylo Renn [sic].
  • Finn, Rey, Chewbacca and BB-8 stop in their tracks.
  • They watch as Han Solo confronts Kylo Ren. Kylo Rnn [sic] silences the conversation forever.
  • Chewbacca lets out of a barrage of angry roars and laser blasts.
  • Kylo Ren flees the scene.
  • Explosions.
  • Stormtroopers file in and Finn and Rey are forced to flee.
  • More explosions.
  • BB-8 and Chewbacca flee to the Falcon.
  • Han Solo is never in a scene after this. Those are the facts."

The scene seems to kind of mirror the death of Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope. It looks like Harrison Ford finally got what he wanted. If you recall, Ford famously wanted George Lucas to kill off Solo in Return of the Jedi saying, "That would have given the whole film a bottom," but that obviously didn't happen.

The site goes on to say that the scene in the teaser trailer in which we see of Kylo Ren in the forrest actually takes place shortly after murdering Han Solo.

I'm sad to learn that Han Solo really does die, but like I said earlier, I kind of suspected that it was going to happen.

Marvel Movie Villains Enjoying the Bar Life in Fan Art

Check out this cool piece of fan art that features several Marvel villains hanging out in a bar and enjoying the night life. Looks like a lot of harmless fun...for now. The illustration was created by Patrick Brown and it features several villains that we’ve seen in several Marvel films over the last five years. I love that it centers around Loki and Thanos locked in an armwrestling match, and Magneto is cheering them on.

I've been eager to get this one posted up, it's taken a loooong time to create! I've been wanting to do something like this for a long time, I was inspired by the idea my brother-in-law Joel had of putting all the villains together in one picture, so I thought what better way to do it than giving them some bonding time at their local club, Stan's Bar! I would also like to give credit to one of my best mates and oldest friends, Brent Jago, who helped me with some of the cool ideas.
I've thrown in most of the villains from the Marvel movies of the past 5 years or more, take a look and see if you can recognize them all and what movie they're from. ALSO look closely and you will find a lot of items that tie into other characters and heroes. CAN YOU SPOT THEM ALL! Dun dun dunnnnn...

Can you name them all?

Is Disney Developing a New TRON Video Game!?

is-disney-developing-a-new-tron-video-game

Tron is one of my favorite Disney franchises. I've thoroughly enjoyed all of the movies and video games that they've made over the years. There was also that awesome animated series that they made that I wish wouldn't have been cancelled.

I'm confident that one day we will see another Tron sequel, but we haven't heard any concrete news about that in a long time. While we wait to see what is going on with that, news has surfaced that a new Tron video game could be in development.

The news comes from an interview with Oscar-winning songwriter and composer Giorgio Moroder, who says he will be working with electronic music producer Skrillex on the music for the new Tron video game.

The interview was conducted by Clash Music  (Via: AICN), and here's the quote:

“I’m going to meet Skrillex next week when I’m back. I’m doing the music for a game for Disney’s ‘Tron’. We have about five themes, electronic stuff and let’s see if he’s interested in remixing or re-working one of the songs.

Now, AICN does point out that Tron has recently been added to Disney Infinity 2.0, so this could be for that. But it could also be for a standalone Tron game, which is what I'm hoping for. The fact that they have five themes to work on tells me it is more likely a standalone Tron game. We'll keep you updated on things as information becomes available.

I have to admit that even though I've enjoyed the video games that have been made, none of them have lived up to their full potential. The classic 1980s version is still my favorite. If Disney Interactive is working on a new game, I hope that they go all out and give fans the badass and definitive Tron game we've been looking for.

Smosh Games has released another amusing "Honest Game Trailer" for the awesome and popular video game franchise, Gears of War. This is one of my favorite video game franchises, and I'd love for Epic Games to develop another one for Xbox One. The honest trailer does a great job poking fun at the game. Especially with the online multiplayer issues. This is one of the more entertaining videos that Smosh Games has made, so I hope you enjoy it.

From CliffyB, the developer of your favorite games’ game engine, comes the franchise brave enough to wonder, why can’t a machine gun be a chainsaw too – Gears of War.

Interesting New ANT-MAN Details Revealed Thanks to LEGO

interesting-new-ant-man-details-revealed-thanks-to-lego

Thanks to some Ant-Man toys being released by LEGO, and some photos taken by MoviePilot, we have some interesting new information regarding Marvel's upcoming action-adventure film. What these toys reveal could be considered a SPOILER, so if you don't want to know any more about the film than you already do, don't read any further.

If the movie features what is indicated in this LEGO play set, then there's a big twist that reveals there may not only be one, but two Ant-Men in the movie. There's Paul Rudd's Scott Lang, and then it looks like Michael Douglas' Hank Pym could be suiting up as well in a different Ant-Man costume. According to the playset, it looks as though he will be fighting alongside Lang to help defeat Corey Stoll's villainous Yellowjacket. Or maybe that is a costume that we will see Pym wear in some flashback scenes of the movie. Maybe it's both!

We don't know if we will actually see Pym wearing an Ant-Man costume in the movie - after all this is just a LEGO playset, and sometimes manufacturers like to make toys featuring characters, vehicles, and costumes that don’t show up in the film itself. That being said, in the past, the Marvel toys that have been released are pretty spot-on when it comes to their corresponding movies.

Look over the photos for yourself, and tell us what you think.

Here's The Biggest Problem With BETTER CALL SAUL

I don't envy Better Call Saul co-creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould. Their new show has been in a practically impossible position from its very inception: a spin-off of Breaking Bad would inevitably draw comparisons to it, and because Breaking Bad is arguably the greatest American television show of all time, calling it a "tough act to follow" would be an understatement. But Better Call Saul's biggest problem doesn't involve living up to the Breaking Bad legacy. It's still only three episodes in, so I imagine viewers will give the show a little bit of time to come into its own before completely passing judgment. No, I think it's biggest problem so far is the forced inclusion of Mike Ehrmentraut (Jonathan Banks) and his relationship with Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk).

Their banter in the first two episodes, especially, pushed my patience past the breaking point. Mike is working as a parking lot attendant at the courthouse where Jimmy works, and Jimmy is constantly forgetting to acquire the proper amount of stickers to provide proper validation when he wants to leave. Mike asks for the stickers, Jimmy says he doesn't have them, and Mike sits there stone-faced as Jimmy becomes furious with him and eventually has to go back inside to get the stickers. Rinse, repeat.

This same sequence of events happened an unthinkable number of times in the first couple of episodes - so often, in fact, that it completely undermines the intelligence of the show's main character. Are we to believe that Jimmy is slick enough to talk himself out of being murdered (and to talk his various clients out of terrible sentences), but he's too stupid to remember the hard-ass attendant isn't going to budge when he forgets the validation stickers? This may sound like a small gripe, but the way the show has relied on it so many times already in its short run time has been inexcusable.

And then in the third episode, it happens AGAIN. Jimmy tries to leave and says he's in a hurry, but Mike is there, unflinching and stone-faced as ever. Eventually Jimmy reaches past him and raises the bar to free himself from the parking lot, leading to a confrontation with Mike when he returns. From there the show tries to show you how Mike and Jimmy could eventually become friendly and maybe even work together, but the damage has already been done. Jimmy, who the audience is supposed to be rooting for because he's smarter and wittier than everyone else, has already been depicted as an absolute idiot. Seeing a character do something that only a film or TV character would do is one of those things that instantly yanks me out of a movie or TV show, like when a protagonist does something especially stupid in a horror film that no one would ever actually do in real life. It's a sign of bad/lazy writing, and when there's a cognitive break like that, it's tough to re-engage with the story.

The show has other issues, to be sure. Montage sequences drag on for what seems to be an interminable amount of time, and oftentimes those sequences aren't even visually interesting - think of Jimmy refilling his coffee cup at the courthouse, or simply walking through the desolate area behind the Kettlemans' house in episode three. There are definitely some Breaking Bad-level touches to the framing of certain shots - no surprise, considering Gilligan, Michelle MacLaren, and Terry McDonaugh all directed episodes of that series as well - but it doesn't have the pacing down yet.

It's still early in the show's life, so I'm not ready to write it off just yet. But if the first three episodes are any indication, the jury's still out on whether or not Better Call Saul is worth sticking with for the long haul.

Doug Jones Joins ARROW as a Villain!

I'm excited to report that fan favorite character actor Doug Jones has joined the cast of Arrow! He will be taking on the villainous role of Jake Simmons a.k.a. Deathbolt.

The character was first introduced in the comic book universe in 1983 in All-Star Squadron #21. He has the power to manipulate electricity, and because of that he was also called “the living battery.” According to IGN, in the series, Simmons will be "a metahuman with the ability to harness and weaponize plasma energy."

Jones has appeared in several comic book-type movies over the years include Abe Sapien in the Hellboy films, as well as Batman Returns, Tank Girl, Mystery Men, Men in Black II, and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

It's always fun to see Jones pop up in films, TV series, and shorts. You'll be able to see him as Deathbolt in the 19th episode of Season 3, which is called “Broken Arrow.”

This is What SCARFACE Would Look Like as a 1980s Video Game

Brian De Palma's 1983 movie Scarface is beloved by many, but all of the people who love and idolize its rags-to-riches story seem to forget about its ending. They remember the catchphrases - I can't count the number of times "say hello to my little friend!" has been parodied in pop culture - but not the bloody conclusion. I actually think that Scarface is a terrible movie in general, but that it's undoubtedly a cultural touchstone and iconic piece of filmmaking from De Palma and writer Oliver Stone.

The gang at Cinefix has put together a new 8-Bit Cinema video to celebrate the movie, and as someone who doesn't like the movie, this is a much more fun way to trace the highs and lows of this story.

Creepy Trailer for BATES MOTEL Season 3

I checked out of Bates Motel a few episodes into the first season, but this new trailer for season three reveals that things have gotten absolutely bonkers since then. Norman (Freddie Highmore) and Norma (Vera Farmiga) have taken their relationship to completely crazy levels, and things have become increasingly sexual and creepy between the two of them. This new look at the show promises even more insanity in the coming year, with strong hints toward the eventual Psycho ending that we all know is coming.

Bates Motel re-opens on March 9th on A&E.

The Fine Bros. have released a video in which they spoil fifty movies from 2014 in only five minutes. It's an impressive feature, especially because they pull it off in one take. They start off with the eight Best Picture nominees for the Oscars, and then keep it rolling with an additional 42 other films.
