Hot Toys has pulled back the curtain on its latest 1/6 scale Star Wars collectible action figure. It's Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the Jedi warrior has never looked so freakin' badass. The resemblance to Sir Alec Guinness is eerily stunning. Hot Toys' recent line of Star Wars figures has been amazing so far, and this is one of my favorites yet.

"The Force will be with you. Always." – Obi-Wan Kenobi

The legendary Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most memorable and crucial characters in the Star Wars saga. As the mentor of Anakin and Luke Skywalker to train them in ways of the Force, Obi-Wan has played a significant role in shaping the fate of the entire galaxy. Following the official introduction of Darth Vader, the “circle is now complete” as Hot Toys is proud to present today the Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope 1/6th scale Obi-Wan Collectible Figure!

The movie-accurate collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of Sir Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the film featuring a newly developed head sculpt, specially sculpted hands, finely tailored Jedi costume, LED-lighted lightsaber, and figure stand.

This “is” the legendary Jedi Master you are looking for.

Nightmarish Trailer for the Horror Thriller WE ARE STILL HERE

nightmarishly-cool-trailer-for-the-horror-thriller-we-are-still-here

I'm always up for a good monster movie, and this film, We Are Still Here, looks like a spectacularly terrifying horror thriller.  I guess you could consider this a red-band trailer due to its blood, gore, and language. Here's a brief synopsis that should spark your interest a little further.

In the cold, winter fields of New England, there sits a house that wakes up every 30 years and demands a sacrifice.

The teaser trailer will give you a much better idea of what's in store for us horror fans, and I seriously loved every minute of it.

The film is set to play in the Midnight lineup at SXSW in Austin, TX in March. Unfortunately, I won't be attending. I wish I could, though, just so I could at least check out this flick! The film stars Barbara Crampton, Andrew Sensenig, Larry Fesseden, Lisa Marie, and Monte Markham.

Sci-Fi Short Film THE BRAIN HACK Has A Super Meta Twist

I’ve got a fantastically clever short film for you to check out today called The Brain Hack. It’s a sci-fi horror film that centers on a computer science student who recruits a film student to document an experiment he's conducting. The science student is attempting to trigger hallucinogenic visions of God, and in the process gets the attention of a mysterious and deadly religious sect. Then there’s the ending, which has a super meta twist.

This is an incredibly cool and well-made short, directed by Joe White. I think you’re going to enjoy this.

INTERSTELLAR Returns to IMAX with 12 Minutes of Behind-The-Scenes Footage

Christopher Nolan's Interstellar is one of the filmmaker's most ambitious movies to date, and its soaring visuals are best witnessed on the largest possible screen. Luckily for those of you who missed the movie the first time around - or for those of you who loved it so much you want to see it again - Paramount is putting the movie back in select IMAX theaters. The bad news? It will only be in theaters for one day: this Saturday, February 21st, 2015.

But there's good news, too. The press release says the along with the theatrical cut of the movie, the screening "will feature more than 12 minutes of never-before-seen exclusive behind-the-scenes content." And if that wasn't enough, it also promises that at some locations, "Moviegoers who purchase a ticket at a participating AMC Theatres box office to see “An Encore of Interstellar: The IMAX Experience®” can receive an additional ticket free." Sounds like a decent deal.

Even though I'm a big Nolan fan, I have to admit I was disappointed by Interstellar. I went into it having avoided every trailer and TV spot, and while I liked the first half of the movie, I thought it went off the rails near the end. Seeing it again in IMAX free of the lofty expectations I had for it might be a good way to come to terms with the movie. And I'm always a sucker for making-of featurettes on Blu-rays and DVDs, so I'm guessing I'll like the new behind-the-scenes stuff. What did you think about the film? Did it live up to your expectations?

Don't Mess With Michael Rooker When It Comes To Quidditch

Post by Wizard World.

Heads up for anyone running into Michael Rooker on the Wizard World Comic Con circuit: he don't play games. Of course, one would expect the actor to be a bit gruff after his portrayals of Merle Dixon on The Walking Dead and Yondu in Guardians of The Galaxy...BUT DAMN! This unlucky Quidditch seeker at the Indianapolis Con got put into the ground when he tried to catch this especially gruff Golden Snitch! On the flip side, it's super cool of a celebrity to participate in some of the geekier things cons have to offer, and who wouldn't want to say they got taken down by this guy?!

THE WALKING DEAD Season 5 Trailer and Clip - "The Distance"

Last night's episode of The Walking Dead was one of the dullest episodes I think I've seen. I understand that it was there to show us what the mental state of the characters are, but there could have been a more entertaining way of doing it. It did end with the introduction of an interesting new character, though, and like almost everyone else that Rick and his team have come across in this post-apocalyptic world, something is off about him. I'm sure he will lead them to more bad things.

The next episode is called "The Distance," and we have a promo spot and clip from it to share with you.

"After withstanding a spectacular storm, Rick and the others meet what appears to be a friendly person, but find themselves mistrustful."

What did you think of the last episode?

Listen to Eddie Murphy's New Reggae Single

Some of you may be too young to remember this, but back in 1985, Eddie Murphy and Rick James collaborated on a song called "Party All The Time" which became a massive hit. I still occasionally listen to that song (it's super catchy!), and now it appears that I'll have another Murphy track to jam along with - only this one has a much different vibe to it. Murphy has released a new reggae single (via The Dissolve) called "Oh Jah Jah."

The actor/musician spoke a bit about the song with the Associated Press:

"I was watching CNN about two or three months ago and all this craziness was going on with the terrorism and chopping off people's heads and then St. Louis, Ferguson. A bunch of police brutality going on (at the) same time and I had that progression, but I didn't have any lyrics, but I had that groove," he said. I'd been playing that progression for about a month and then I was watching the news and it all came together one day."

Take a listen below, and then at the very bottom, take a trip back to 1985 and get a load of the video for "Party All The Time." What do you think?

GAME OF THRONES Season 5 Will Kill Off Characters Still Alive in the Books

game-of-thrones-season-5-will-kill-off-characters-still-alive-in-the-books

It looks like HBO's Game of Thrones is going to stray even further from the George R.R. Martin books in a big way. During an interview with Showbiz 411, Martin teased that the upcoming fifth season of the series is going to kill off characters who are currently still alive and well in the books he has written. Don't worry! He doesn't say who, so there are no spoilers.

“People are going to die who don’t die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy. So everybody better be on their toes. David and D.B. (David Benioff and D.B. Weiss co-creators of ‘Game Of Thrones) are even bloodier than I am.”

That should definitely make things interesting. I wonder who they will kill off. Will the death of these characters put the TV series on a completely different trajectory than the books? I guess we'll just have to wait and see. When asked how many more seasons Game of Thrones we'll see, he said:

"Not really certain yet. This is the fifth season, the sixth season HBO picked up last year. We will have a 7th, 8th or 9th, no one knows. They only renew one or two seasons at a time. After we do season 6, maybe we’ll get a renewal for 7th and 8th. That all depends, Television is a very changeable medium.”

He then adds:

“It’s the hottest show on TV now, but will it be the hottest show on TV two years from now? Hot shows come and go and television changes, and I’ve lived through that before. I certainly hope that we get to tell the entire story. Because whatever happens with the show I’m going to finish the books, it will be seven books. But each of these books are 1500 pages long and they each have enough material in them for several seasons. I have two more books, the one I’m writing right now, ‘The Winds Of Winter,’ and after that the last book, ‘The Dream of Spring,’ so those will be the two final books. But we’re talking 3000 pages of material. How many seasons that translates too? That’s up to D.B. And David.”

I hope we get to see the entire story brought to life as well! HBO better follow through all the way with this series, or fans are going to be pissed. As for the changes being made from book to series, I'm actually OK when they don't completely follow the story in the books. It makes the series more surprising and interesting.

Samuel L. Jackson on Why Marvel Movies Are Better Than DC

During an interview with MTV, Samuel L. Jackson talked about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and in the process he gave his opinion about why Marvel movies are better than DC's, saying:

"I think Marvel has figured out a way to make those movies accessible to the public that DC hasn’t. I don’t know what that is. I don’t know why you can’t get Batman and Superman or people to get as juiced up to be a part of that."

It's incredibly interesting to see what Marvel has been able to accomplish, and how the fans have just been eating it all up like the most delicious candy in the galaxy. I'm really curious to see if DC can hit that sweet spot with fans with their upcoming movie line-up. They've come up with a plan, and they are in the process of executing it. It will really all start with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. I really hope they can deliver the level of awesomeness that fans are expecting.

If they do succeed, they will win the trust of the fans. You have to remember, Marvel is already 10 films deep into their plan and they already have earned that trust. DC is just beginning, and it might take some time. As long as they make great films, the fans will increasingly get excited as Warner Bros. continues to release one after another.

Robert Downey Jr. Discusses CAPTAIN AMEIRCA: CIVIL WAR

Captain America: Civil War is probably going to be just as epic as any of the Avengers movies. Maybe even more so due to its subject matter, and the huge shift in the direction that it will take the cinematic universe. There are events in Avengers: Age of Ultron that will lead to Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark squaring off against Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers in Civil War. This is a storyline that fans have been waiting to see, and I think a lot of us were surprised that it would happen so soon.

While talking with Empire, Downey discusses aspects of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, his future role in the Marvel cinematic universe, and more!

Here he talks about why he wanted in on the Captain America: Civil War action:

"I’m crazy about Evans. I really am. I don’t know why or how to explain this particular kinship we have. By the way, he hasn’t called me in six months. Honestly, in order for this whole thing to have worked, I did my part, Hemsworth knocked it out of the stadium and then it fell on Cap. That was the riskiest. It was the one that had the highest degree of difficulty in making it translate to a modern audience. It was the Russos and Chris who, I think, really hit the line drive and won the series. I remember glancing through it going, “Wow, that’s a different way to go”. They said, “If we have you, we can do this or Cap 3 has to be something else”. It’s nice to feel needed."

When talking about whether or not Tony Stark would be the main antagonist, he said:

"Yeah. Again, it’s natural to change your views. The main thing to me is, and this is where I think the Russos are quite brilliant and where Kevin backed the play, is what sort of incident could occur and what sort of framework could we find Tony in? The clues are in Ultron about where we might find him next. But what would it take for Tony to completely turn around everything he’s stood for, quote-unquote, because he was the right-wing guy who could still do his own thing. When the first Iron Man came out the liberals and conservatives were both like, ‘You’re our guy’. Yes! Score! But the idea of Tony being able to march into Washington and say, ‘I’ll sign up’, wouldn’t have made sense if the political climate in the real world hadn’t shifted the way it has. It’s a little bit of things following a real world continuum in, ‘What would you do?’ There’s always the bigger overarching question, that Joss brings up all the time - it’s kind of weird that these guys would have all these throw downs all over planet Earth and it looked like a little collateral damage happened over there, and yet when the movie’s over, it’s like nobody minds. You have to figure, ‘Were you to ask the question, what would the American government do if this were real? Wouldn’t it be interesting to see Tony doing something you wouldn’t imagine?’"

When asked if he sees Iron Man as the villain in that movie, he said:

"I wouldn’t put it that way. Ultimately it’s Steve’s story; it doesn’t say ‘Iron Man 4: Civil War’. I think that’s great too. I think Chris [Evans] has been hungry to bring even more of an underside and some shadow to that. I remember the comics - on the surface you got the sense that Cap was baseball and apple pie, but underneath there was all this churning stuff of being a man out of time. Now we know he’s made his peace with that. What’s the bigger issue? It can have a little something to do with the past, but it can be about someone becoming more modernised in their own conflict."

He also talked about his role in the MCU moving forward:

"At this point it ceases about being about announcements of contracts and deal points and Forbes and all that. And to see Chadwick being announced for Black Panther, I go, ‘Wow, man, Marvel is making all the right moves and they’re not doing it because it’s PC, they’re doing it because it’s exciting’. So why would I be the one to go, ‘I’m not going on the road. I don’t get along with the keyboardist’. Who cares? Who cares? And look, I also recognise that I’ll be turning 50 by the time I promote this movie. The clock is ticking down on the amount of memories and participation that I would allow myself and not embarrass the medium with. And when they pitched it to me and when I had a couple of ideas and when they said we like those ideas, let’s do those. Then there’s all this competition too. I don’t do this because I look at it as a competition, but I look at the marketplace and go, ‘Maybe if these two franchises teamed up and I can take even a lesser position in support, with people I like and directors I respect, maybe we can keep things bumping along here a little longer than they might have’."

When asked if he'll miss Joss Whedon directing the two part Avengers: Infinity War film, he responded with:

"It’s funny, nobody really ever goes away entirely from the Marvel universe. I’m sure whatever’s going on in ten years, whether I’m receiving a red cent or whether anyone still associates me with the product, there’s still always going to be a level as long as anybody from the original team is there, where you’re connected. More than I would miss him, I would be remiss to say that these are such Herculean gigs, so it’s important for Joss to take all the leverage he’s earned and to apply it to something else. Ultimately he’s a creator, and I think what he did is he’s very aptly taken pre-existing material and spun it into something that feels like a creation.

He then talked about The Vision being introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and what it was like seeing him for the first time:

"[Jon] Favreau was visiting the set and went, ‘JARVIS, what did they [frick]in’ do to you?’ I would maybe see Bettany on the street or at a premiere party, maybe. And the suit? Everybody has to pay their pound of flesh. I remember on Iron Man 2 when Cheadle came out in the Mark II, it’s the least comfortable suit, by their own admission, designed for any movie and he came out and stopped the party. I looked at him and it was right before lunch and he’d been in it for three hours. I thought, ‘Poor Don’, but you gotta do it. And for Bettany, they did a number on him with this absolutely awesome Ultron look, and it also reminded me of the times when I’ve been in special effects make-up. The very first thing he had to do was perch on the end of a precipitous ledge and stand up at the right time with the wind blowing and look right down the barrel, and 20 other things were happening, and it was like, ‘Yep, welcome’. But when - and I won’t give much of anything away - Vision gets to express and enter and find his place in earnest respect on the playing field, it was like an exceptionally well-executed, poetic, badass, “Aha!” moment for all of us. Joss was very particular about that in a different way than he was with Jimmy. I think people are going to get a kick out of the creative decisions about how Vision fits in."

You can read more of the interview here if you want, but this was more of the interesting stuff that was discussed.

Downey and Evans will be joined in the film by Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Daniel Bruhl possibly as Zemo,  Frank Grillo as Crossbones, and maybe Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. Oh yeah! Spider-Man will be in it too! We just don't know who's playing him yet. Captain America: Civil War will be released on May 6th, 2016.

Last week Netflix accidentally released ten House of Cards episodes two weeks before their original premiere date on February 27th. They pulled them down pretty quickly, but not before fans were able to grab screenshots of the episode descriptions. The official House of Cards Twitter account then posted the following statement:

We have a new promo spot for you to watch today called "White House Portrait." It features quite an uncomfortable moment as Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) and Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) are having their Presidential portrait taken.

If you are curious about the episode descriptions, I've included screenshots for them below the trailer, thanks to Huffington Post.

JOHN WICK Kill Counter Cranks Up The Carnage

For action fans, John Wick was one of the biggest surprises of 2014. Keanu Reeves kicked some serious ass, dropping bad guys with headshots left and right and participating in beautifully choreographed action sequences that were basically an action movie fan's dream come true. Not only that, but co-directors Chad Stehelski and David Leitch put the time and effort into building a compelling universe around their lead character, with an intriguing mythology of gangsters, criminals, a mysterious hotel where violence is off limits, and a cleaning crew that wipes everything up in exchange for a special type of currency.

But you probably knew all of that already. You're here for the John Wick kill counter by Nick DiNizio, a supercut of every kill in the movie as Wick exacts revenge for the murder of his adorable little dog. Behold:

Matthew Vaughn's X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Would Have Recast Wolverine

I thought Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past was the best X-Men movie yet, but for those of you who were looking for something a little bit different, here's some fuel for your imagination. X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn wanted to direct Days of Future Past, but ended up making Kingsman: The Secret Service instead. (I think that decision resulted in the best possible scenario for fans, but that's just me.) And even though Hugh Jackman has played Logan/Wolverine in all of the X-films so far, Vaughn had a treatment worked out in which Jackman would have been in the same movie as a younger version of Wolverine. The director told MTV:

“I had a whole different idea of how X-Men should go. I thought Days of Future Past should be the next one and it’d be set in the ’80s. So, when I wrote the treatment, I then wrote Kingsman and got confused about which film I should direct next. I said to Fox, ‘Let me do Kingsman now, get somebody else in and we’ll do the ’70s version, recast Wolverine, and then we do Days of Future Past with the new Wolverine and Hugh [Jackman], and make it the biggest spectacle we’ve ever seen.”
“That was my idea but Fox, quite rightly so, I mean, you know, they’ve got a bottom line to look after and went ‘no, we’re doing it.” And Bryan [Singer], it’s Bryan’s franchise. I think he proved it’s his by knocking it out of the park.”

Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: Days of Future Past will forever be one of those geek properties that people look back on and wonder about, like Guillermo del Toro's The Hobbit or J.J. Abrams' Superman: Flyby. Like I said, though, I'm happy with the version of Days of Future Past that Singer created. Still, it raises an interesting point about the longevity of Hugh Jackman's run as Wolverine. Right now, I believe he's lined up to appear in X-Men: Apocalypse and then Wolverine 3 for James Mangold, and that might be the end of his time as the character. Vaughn's version would have at least eased audiences into the idea of a new actor eventually replacing Jackman, and the timing might have worked out well by blending the new actor in with the younger cast from the films and carrying the story forward from there. We also might have gotten a version of the movie that stayed closer to its comic source material, with Kitty Pryde being the one who time-traveled, not Wolverine. But now we'll never know.

Vaughn has been kicking around ideas for a Kingsmen sequel, a Hit-Girl prequel, and even Kick-Ass 3, so hopefully we get a chance to see one of those from him sometime soon. (My vote is for a Kingsmen sequel.)

Video Essay: The Evolution of Movie Trailers Over The Years

For a couple of years, I wanted to be a movie trailer editor. There's an art to cutting a trailer, and there's something amazing about seeing a perfectly crafted one that conjures excitement and anticipation without giving away the entire film. Eventually my love for writing about film and television overtook my desire to edit trailers, but I still love that rare sensation of seeing the perfect trailer. (The one for Cloud Atlas stands out as a recent example of one of my favorites.)

The Playlist points us to a video essay from Steven Benedict that tracks the evolution of film trailers throughout the years, from the very first movie advertisements all the way up to the proliferation of red-band trailers. It's an interesting watch, and certainly contains information that I didn't know before. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Conan Heads to Cuba, Episode Will Air March 4th

We're big fans of Conan O'Brien at GeekTyrant. I remember hanging out with some of the other writers/editors in the rain during a big rally when Conan was being ousted by Leno as the host of The Tonight Show, back when "Team Coco" was a rallying cry and not a branding element. But the big red-haired dude has done just fine over at TBS, and now he's working his way into the late-night record books. Just weeks after President Obama announced America's intentions to normalize relations with Cuba for the first time in decades, Deadline reports that O'Brien took a small crew to Havana this past weekend to film one of his famous remote segments from the country. This is the first time a late-night host has ventured to that territory since Jack Paar interviewed Fidel Castro on The Tonight Show in 1959.

The episode will air on March 4th, and representatives from the show said it's "intended to give O’Brien’s audience a rare glimpse into Cuban daily life." I expect O'Brien will bring his usual wit and ridiculousness to the situation, even though he has to be aware that the nation's eyes will be on him in this situation more than it would be on any regular broadcast for him. Now we'll just have to wait and see if this lives up to Conan's adventures in Finland.

Scarlett Johansson on Why She Joined Marvel’s MCU as Black Widow

When Scarlett Johansson was first cast as Black Widow in Iron Man 2, I was a bit skeptical. I wasn’t really a big fan of anything she had done up to that point. Turns out she was perfect for the part, and it has been awesome watching her kick ass in these Marvel movies.

Speaking to W Magazine, Johansson explained why she was attracted to the role of Black Widow and why she ultimately wanted the part. She also teases what we can expect from the character in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and how we'll learn more about the sadness of her past.

"People were surprised that I wanted to play a comic book heroine. But I loved Iron Man, and I met with Marvel to see what was possible. I had done my research, and the Black Widow character resonated with me. She is dark and has faced death so many times that she has a deep perspective on the value of life. In the sequel, you learn more about the sadness in her past. I think of her that way. Black Widow is a superhero, but she’s also human. She’s small, but she’s strong. It’s hard not to admire her."

Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released May 1st, 2015, and there’s no doubt Johansson is going to be great in it.

“I’m consciousness. I’m alive. I’m Chappie!”

A series of poster art has been released by Poster Posse that was inspired by Neill Blomkamp’s upcoming sci-fi film Chappie. Several artists have contributed to the art project, and there are several great pieces here for you to enjoy.

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.

The art looks like it features some kind of cool high-tech alien type ship. Maybe it’s something that Apocalypse uses to get around in? Seems to match his color scheme.

The film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Rose Byrne, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, and Nicholas Hoult. Apparently, this will be the final installment of a trilogy that began with X-Men: First Class.

X-Men: Apocalypse will start shooting in Montreal beginning in April. It's set to hit theaters on May 27th, 2016.
