This year's Star Wars Celebration is going to be huge for a number of reasons, but mostly because 2015 is the year of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and you can bet that the movie will have a huge presence at the fan event. GeekTyrant will be there, so you can expect updates about all the coolest stuff that happens, but while we wait for April to roll around, StarWars.com has released a sneak peek at some pieces of art that will appear in a gallery at the event. A lot of these are outstanding, and you can see more by clicking here and scrolling down. I've included some of my favorites below.

I haven't been watching The CW's The Flash, but I've heard decent things about the show so far. One thing that is sort of shocking to me, though, is that they're actually going all-in on showing Gorilla Grodd as a villain. He's literally a hyper-intelligent gorilla, which doesn't exactly seem like the most practical thing for a superhero TV show to use in its arsenal. But while Gotham continues to introduce classic Batman villains (some might say that show has too many villains already), I'm happy that The Flash is embracing the absurdity of its Rouges Gallery and that they're going to find a way to make this character work. These are the funniest videos I've seen today. Kotaku points us to a series of machinima videos from Commandoflauge that feature a Grand Theft Auto superhero named Pig Man doing all of the mundane things that you don't see in superhero movies. How do you think those guys get to the top of those skyscrapers for those epic helicopter shots? And what goes into organizing and executing one of those flaming superhero symbols into a giant building? It also takes a brief look at the sometimes sad implications of being a pedestrian in a world full of superheroes. These are just the first two videos in what I hope becomes a long-running series, because these cracked me up. Hopefully you enjoy them as well.

Kumiko the Treasure Hunter is based on a true story of a young Japanese woman who was found dead in the US in 2001. Apparently she had come to America to travel the States in search of a treasure. What makes the film so fascinating is the fact that she used the Coen Brothers film Fargo as a map.

The movie definitely blurs the line between fact and fiction, as it tells the dark and comedic story of this girl and her struggles to find the treasure she is seeking. This is a surprising story that looks incredibly intriguing. Here’s the synopsis:

In this darkly comedic odyssey, Academy Award nominee Rinko Kikuchi (Babel, Pacific Rim) stars as Kumiko, a frustrated Office Lady whose imagination transcends the confines of her mundane life. Kumiko becomes obsessed with a mysterious, battered VHS tape of a popular film she’s mistaken for a documentary, fixating on a scene where a suitcase of stolen cash is buried in the desolate, frozen landscape of North Dakota. Believing this treasure to be real, she leaves behind Tokyo and her beloved rabbit Bunzo to recover it – and finds herself on a dangerous adventure unlike anything she’s seen in the movies.

Kumiko the Treasure Hunter opens March 18th in NY, then hits LA on March 20th.

Reynan Sanchez created this badass piece of fan art for Keanu Reeves’ action-packed film John Wick. That movie was so insanely awesome, and it’s cool to see that it’s actually getting some fan art. The piece you see here is called “Point Blank,” and it pretty much speaks for itself. 

If you haven’t already heard, you’ll be happy to know that the directors of the first film are in the process of developing a sequel. So that should be a fun time!

Marvel Entertainment has announced The Sopranos and Sons of Anarchy star Drea de Matteo has been cast of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She will take on a character by the name of Karla Faye Gideon, who is described as “a Gifted woman with a grudge to bear against S.H.I.E.L.D. who joins forces with Skye’s father, Cal.” 

Even though she shares the same name with a character from Daredevil: Redemption, this is a completely different character. Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, had this to say in a statement:

“We’re thrilled to have Drea join us as yet another great villain to challenge our cast. We relished the opportunity to work with her in such a menacing role.”

Matteo is a talented actress, and there’s no doubt she’s going to make a great villain in this series.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios. The series returns on Tuesday, March 3 at 9:00 p.m. ET on ABC.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a cool-looking geek cake. Now we have this crazy detailed Star Wars-inspired cake of the Millennium Falcon. 

The cake was made by Cup a Dee Cakes in Georgia, and it’s amazing to see the amount of detail that they were able to put into it. Jenniffer White explains the process that they used for creating the special cake on the Cup a Dee Cakes blog. 

"Since the “real” Millennium Falcon is fairly flat and pizza like, we decided to sculpt it at an angle to get more cake servings. We made the ships “stand” a little smaller and covered it in black Fondarific. The idea is that it kind of disappears and isn’t very noticeable."

A year ago, it was announced that Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage would star in an R-rated comedy that centers around a man who tells people he is a real leprechaun. 

Deadline has an update on the project in which they reveal the title as being O’ Lucky Day. The site also says that the movie will be directed by Adam Shankman (Rock of Ages, Hairspray) from a script written by Andrew Dodge (Bad Words). 

The report goes on to offer a brief update on the story saying that Dinklage's character is a con man “who may or may not be a real Leprechaun.” Even though the movie is said to be “deep in R-rated territory,” it is also “wrapped around an emotional heart.” Are you looking forward to seeing it?

There’s a lot of buzz revolving around the third season of the sci-fi series Orphan Black. I’m still in the process of catching up on the show, but I’ll be ready to go by the time Season 3 is unleashed on April 18th. This is such a great show, and now that I’m deep into watching it, I can see what all the hype was about. If you haven’t jumped on the band wagon yet, you should! In addition to Maslany, season three of “Orphan Black” features returning cast members Jordan Gavaris, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Dylan Bruce, Kevin Hanchard, Ari Millen, and Kristian Bruun, with Ari Millen, Jordan Gavaris, Dylan Bruce, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Evelyne Brochu, Kevin Hanchard, Zoé De Grand Maison and Michiel Huisman in supporting roles.

The series is co-created by Graeme Manson and John Fawcett, with Manson also serving as writer and Fawcett as director.

I'm love the direction that Gotham is going, and in the next episode, called “The Blind Fortuneteller,” there are a couple of big things going on. The first is that we get to meet the Flying Graysons, and the second is the introduction of a character who will most likely become The Joker.

We've got two clips from the upcoming episode for you to watch along with a behind-the-scenes video that offers some insight into the Graysons and what lies ahead. We also have a featurette that teases the eventual return of Jonathan Crane.

In the “The Blind Fortune Teller,” Gordon takes Dr. Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) to the circus, but the day turns quickly when the circus comes under attack. Then, Falcone enlists Butch Gilzean to help Penguin with the night club, while Fish Mooney is otherwise occupied. Also, Bruce Wayne schedules a meeting with the Wayne Enterprises board.

"The Blind Fortune Teller” is set to air February 16th.

One of the events that I'm most excited about attending this year is Star Wars Celebration. This will be my first year attending the fan event, and I've been hoping that Disney and Lucasfilm will show off a new trailer, or some kind of new footage.

Lucasfilm has announced that the director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy will be kicking off the event "in a big way." They also say it "will be a day long remembered." I'm pretty sure that means that anyone attending will be seeing some of that new Star Wars: The Force Awakens footage that we've all been excited about and hoping for.  

For  J.J. Abrams, the Star Wars Celebration circle is now complete.

StarWars.com is thrilled to announce that the director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens — who once attended Star Wars Celebration as a fan — is confirmed to appear at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim this April. Abrams and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy will kick off the show in a big way on Thursday morning, April 16, at 10:00 a.m. This will be a day long remembered.

Kennedy attended Celebration Europe in July 2013, where she had an in-depth chat with host Warwick Davis, and revealed that John Williams would return to score Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She also toured the show floor, checking out the work of the R2 Builders Club — which led to members of the fan group joining the production of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is scheduled for release December 18, 2015.

Whatever it is that they show off is going to be something special, and probably something only people attending the event will get to see. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up bring in the whole cast of the upcoming film as well, which would make things even more amazing! This is just speculation, but they are hyping it up to be something to that effect. The anticipation is killing me!

Star Wars Celebration takes place April 16-19 at the Anaheim Convention Center. GeekTyrant will be in attendance, and we'll let you know how it all goes down!

Warner Bros. is moving forward with their Space Invaders movie. Deadline is reporting that the studio has hired Black List writer Dan Kunka to write the script for the film, which is based on the classic arcade game.

Kunka made the Hollywood Black List by taking a 52 page spec script called Yellowstone Falls and converting it into a film about wolves battling zombies. Sounds like my kind of writer! Since he has worked on a project like that, I'm sure he's going to have a blast bringing Space Invaders to life.

Kunka is working on several other projects at the moment, including an adaptation of Winston Groom's (Forrest Gump) novel Patriotic Fire: Andrew Jackson and Jean Laffite at the Battle of New Orleans. He also recently sold a one hour drama to SyFy Channel with Robert Zemeckis producing. Then there's Yellowstone Falls, which is set up at Warner Bros. 

The studio obviously likes his style. I'm actually looking forward to seeing how this Space Invaders adaptation comes together.

Here's a fun piece of cover art that was created by artist Aleksi Briclot for Marvel's New Avengers #4. As you can see, it's a new take on an old classic, and it turned out pretty radical. As cool as the updated version is, I still like the old cover art more.

LEGO unveiled their new Star Wars TIE Fighter at the New York Toy Fair, and it's freakin' awesome! Yeah, LEGO has released several TIE Fighter play sets over the years, but none of them have been as amazing as this one. Universal Pictures has released a TV spot for Furious 7. it seems like a lot of people are excited for the seventh movie in this adrenaline-fueled franchise. I find it fascinating that when it seemed like this franchise was going to fade away, it completely blew up, and now we're getting the best movies out of it. One of the things I'm most excited about for this next chapter in the story is the fact that they got Jason Statham as the villain. He's the perfect actor to play a villain in this series!

Continuing the global exploits in the unstoppable franchise built on speed, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Johnson lead the returning cast of Furious 7. James Wan (Insidious, The Conjuring) directs this chapter of the hugely successful series that also welcomes back favorites Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black.

They are joined by Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak, The Protector), Kurt Russell, Nathalie Emmanuel(Game of Thrones), Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy), John Brotherton (The Conjuring) and a cameo by Iggy Azaela.

The movie races into theaters on April 3rd, 2015.

Wayne's World has always been one of my favorite things to come out of Saturday Night Live, and last night on SNL 40, Mike Meyers and Dana Carvey returned to their roles as Wayne and Garth. In the skit they break down a Top 10 list of what they think is awesome about SNL. There is also a hilarious running gag throughout the segment that involved keeping Kanye West in his seat so that he couldn't storm the stage. 

The 40th anniversary of SNL was an incredibly fun and nostalgic experience, and this was one of my favorite parts of the show. Enjoy!

We've got five new TV spots for director Neill Blomkamp's upcoming sci-fi action thriller Chappie. There's some new footage featured in some of these spots, and they are worth checking out if you're excited about seeing the movie. Blomkamp is a talented director, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this latest project of his turns out.

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.

The film opens in theaters on March 6th, and it stars Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver, and Hugh Jackman.

I've never been on a cruise. There's just something about being trapped on a boat in the middle of the ocean for several days with hundreds of people that doesn't appeal to me. Maybe one day I'll give it a try, and if I do, it will have to be Disney Cruise Lines new Star Wars Day at Sea.

Darth Vader, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker, C-3PO, R2-D2, and other characters will be taking a break from cruising the galaxy to cruise the ocean. According to to EW:

Star Wars-related activities include a Jedi Training Academy, meet-and-greets, a night club that will make clubgoers feel like “they stepped into the Mos Eisley cantina scene,” and—because this is a cruise, after all—screenings ofStar Wars  films as well as Star Wars Rebels.

The Star Wars event will begin in 2016 on select dates January through April. It will only be a part of the Disney Fantasy cruise ship, on select Western Caribbean sailings. Would you be down to take a Star Wars cruise?

The Magneto breakout sequence in X-Men: Days of Future Past that featured Quicksilver was so incredibly fun. It was perfectly envisioned and brought to life, and I don't know one person who didn't love it. Producer Matthew Vaughn had another version of the scene that he would have done had he directed the film and not Bryan Singer. Vaughn was recently a guest on the Empire Podcast, and there he revealed his plan to break out Magneto:

“I had Juggernaut being thrown out of a plane at 20,000 feet, and using his head to go down a hole to get to the bottom of [The White House]. I had Beast saying, ‘I have a plan,’ and him replying, ‘What’s the plan? What’s the plan?’, and they go higher and higher and Beast was going to go, ‘This is it!’ and chuck him out the window. Then he goes smashing through [The White House] with his and Magneto goes, ‘Who the fuck are you?’”

Juggernaut was ultimately taken out of the story completely, and Evan Peters’ Quicksilver was basically used in his place, which was completely the right choice. Everyone ended up loving Quicksilver. I'm sure had we seen that alternate scene described above, we would have loved it, though, because we wouldn't have known about Singer's vision of Quicksilver. We just would have enjoyed what we got.

Vaughn went on to say that Singer's take was “the best scene in the movie.” Then he laughingly said, “I would have made the movie worse. The Quicksilver one was better.” What can you say? It really was.
