Hasbo has unveiled their huge line of Jurassic World dinosaur action figures and other toys. A lot of these things actually look incredibly cool. The figure above is the genetically engineered dino, Indominus Rex. This thing looks absolutely insane! We got a pretty good tease of it in the Super Bowl spot, which you can check out here. The Indominus Rex is 40 feet tall and can run up to 30 miles per hour. The toy Indominus roars, chomps, and even has color-morphing skin on its back. If I were a kid I would want to collect these!

The Colin Trevorrow directed film takes place 22 yeas after the event's of Steven Spielberg's classic film, which was adapted from the Michael Crichton novel. Jurassic World hits theaters on June 12th, 2015, and it stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Jake Johnson, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, BD Wong, Omar Sy, Judy Greer, Katie McGrath, Lauren Lapkus, and Andy Buckley. Thanks to EW and Comingsoon for the photos.

explosive-firestarter-trailer-for-just-cause-3

Avalanche Studios and Square Enix have released the first trailer from the upcoming Just Cause 3 video game. The trailer is called "Firestarter," and it's a fiery hot mess of explosive awesomeness. The trailer is described as taking "a look inside the mind’s eye of Rico Rodriguez, the most explosive action hero in gaming." The new rendition used of Prodigy's "Firestarter" song is pretty cool too. I've also include several screenshots from the highly anticipated sequel for you to check out.

In the new video game, the Mediterranean republic of Medici is suffering under the brutal control of General Di Ravello, a dictator with an insatiable appetite for power. Enter Rico Rodriguez, a man on a mission to destroy the General’s hold on power by any means necessary. With over 400 square miles of complete freedom from sky to seabed and a huge arsenal of weaponry, gadgets and vehicles, prepare to unleash chaos in the most creative and explosive ways you can imagine.

Just Cause 3 will be released for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC during the holiday season this year. Looks like a blast!

You've got to check out this hilarious Harry Potter parody from YouTube user PistolShrimps. It's called Harry Potter and the Magic Show, and it shows us what it would be like if Harry and his friends came across Muggle magic. You know, the kind of magic we enjoy watching in Las Vegas and other magic venues around the world. I really enjoyed how this video came together. It's a lot more entertaining than I expected it to be.

Trailer for the Thriller BACKCOUNTRY - Worst Camping Trip Ever

trailer-for-the-thriller-backcountry-worst-camping-trip-ever

It's man vs. nature in this trailer for Backcountry, a film based on an intense true story of the worst camping trip of all time. The story follows a young couple as they leave their busy big city lives behind to embark on a camping trip, which quickly turns into a tale of survival as they face the darkest side of nature: a man-eating bear.

The movie was written and directed by Adam MacDonald, and it stars Missy Peregrym and Jeff Roop. It screened at TIFF and received a lot of positive feedback. This is a solid trailer, and it looks like the kind of film that I would enjoy watching. It's always fun to watch other people go through a complete and utterly miserable experience.

The film will get a limited released in theaters on March 20th. Now...who wants to go camping!?

Animated Video Traces The History of Valentine's Day

I haven't actually stopped to think about why we celebrate Valentine's Day since...well, probably since around elementary school when we were given a watered-down lesson to explain the holiday. But this animated video from Ya Bo (via LaughingSquid) shows that there's a much darker history to it than I remembered. Watching this should give you a little shift in perspective when you're out buying flowers and candy for the one you love to celebrate this weekend.

"Welcome home, kid."

The CW has released a new TV spot for the upcoming episode of Arrow called "The Return," and it teases the return of Deathstroke. It looks like Oliver and Thea will embark on one of their most intense challenges yet as Oliver returns to Lian Yu. Here's the description of the upcoming episode:

THE RETURN OF DEATHSTROKE AND TOMMY MERLYN - Malcolm (John Barrowman) puts Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Thea (Willa Holland) in a dangerous situation that lands them on Lian Yu with Oliver's former enemy, Deathstroke (guest star Manu Bennett). A flashback reveals when Oliver and Maseo (guest star Karl Yune) returned to Starling City to retrieve the Omega bio weapon, and despite being under strict orders from Amanda Waller (guest star Cynthia Addai-Robinson) not to reveal himself to anyone, Oliver looks in on his family, Laurel (Katie Cassidy) and Tommy (guest star Colin Donnell). Dermott Downs directed the episode written by Marc Guggenheim & Erik Oleson (#314).

Real-Life Batman Patrols the Streets of San Diego in Batmobile

real-life-batman-patrols-the-streets-of-san-diego-in-batmobile

San Diego resident Chris Banner might be one of the biggest Batman fans you could meet. The guy dresses up as Batman and drives around the city streets in his very own custom-built Batmobile. When talking to NBC San Diego, he says:

“I’ve got a problem. Everything I have is a bat. All my tractors have bats; my trucks, bats. Socks, underwear, you name it. I’m bat.”

Banner says his obsession with the superhero started when was seven...just like most of us. That was when he got his first Robin costume. He has since stepped into the role of the Caped Crusader and puts on 40 shows a year.

When he’s not playing Batman, Banner works in real estate and weed trimming. Just like Bruce Wayne.

Capcom has announced that they are officially developing an Attack on Titan arcade game! Unfortunately, that's all we really know about it at this point.

The news comes from Inside, and during the Japan Amusement Expo, Capcom showed off a title card revealing the project that you can see below. The first one says "Capcom" and "Attack on Titan." There was another image that said, "An arcade game project begins."

There's no information on whether or not this will get an international release, but I hope it does because I want to play the damn thing! Expect more details on the game later on in the year. We'll keep you updated.

An Attack on Titan game has a ton of potential, and could be seriously freakin' awesome!

20 Actors Who Played The Same Character as a Co-Star

Actors who are cast in a film together often posses a certain quality or look that make them suitable as co-stars. And in this world of sequels, prequels, remakes, and competing franchises, it can be those same characteristics that also make them fitting for the same roles. Here are ten sets of actors who had played, or ended up playing, the same character as their co-star - but in a different movie (with a couple of television series exceptions):

Co-Stars-Who-Played-the-Same-Character-de-niro-brando.jpg

Vito Corleone - Robert De Niro, Marlon Brando

Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro both earned Oscars for their portrayals of Vito Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather trilogy. Decades later, the two Vito Corleones starred together in the 2001 heist thriller The Score, which was directed by the voice of Yoda himself, Frank Oz — an offer they couldn't refuse, he must have made them.

Betty Ross - Liv Tyler, Jennifer Connolly

In the 1997 film Inventing the Abbotts, Jennifer Connolly and Liv Tyler played sisters who are seduced by the same man. They would both go on to be seduced by the same role, that of Elizabeth “Betty” Ross, the love interest of Bruce Banner/Hulk, and the daughter of one of Hulk’s greatest threats, General Thaddeus Ross. Connolly played Ross opposite Eric Bana in Ang Lee’s Hulk (2003). Five years later, Tyler took over the role in The Incredible Hulk, Marvel’s reboot which starred Edward Norton in the title role.

Hannibal Lecter - Brian Cox, Anthony Hopkins

Five years before Anthony Hopkins’ award-winning turn as Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs (1991), the cannibalistic doctor was first portrayed by Brian Cox in ManhunterMichael Mann’s adaptation of Thomas Harris' novel Red Dragon. The film received some critical acclaim but failed to catch on with audiences. The Silence of the Lambs, on the other hand, was a box-office hit and would go on to earn the director, screenwriter, and lead actors Academy Awards. Hopkins reprised the iconic role in the 2001 sequel, Hannibal, and the 2002 prequel, Red Dragon. In 2013, Hopkins and Cox co-starred in RED 2, but apparently the topic of Dr. Lecter never came up during their one day of production together.

Lana Lang - Kristen Kreuk, Annette O'Toole

Look! It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s two Lana Langs! Playing the role of Clark Kent’s adoptive mother on the television series Smallville, Annette O’Toole starred alongside Kristen Kreuk, who played Lana Lang, a role O’Toole herself played nearly two decades before in 1983’s Superman III. O’Toole’s Superman III co-stars Christopher Reeve (Clark Kent/Superman) and Margot Kidder (Lois Lane) later made guest appearances on the Superman prequel series, which ran for 10 seasons.

Quicksilver - Evan Peters, Aaron Johnson

Before both taking on the role of the super fast Quicksilver, Aaron Johnson and Evan Peters played normal, powerless high school students in the DIY superhero action-comedy Kick-Ass (2010). Peters’ American-raised Quicksilver was a major highlight of Bryan Singer’s 1970s-set X-Men sequel/prequel Days of Future Past (2014). While we've only seen glimpses of Johnson’s Quicksilver in action in trailers for Avengers: Age of Ultron, we do know that he will have an Eastern European accent. Other major differences have to do with the shared rights to the character between Fox and Marvel. Marvel can use Quicksilver and his sister Scarlet Witch, but their paternal link to Magneto can’t be mentioned. Also, in the Marvel Cineverse, the characters aren't mutants — you can read the spoilerish origins of their powers here. As for what Johnson thought of Peters' take on the character, he said in an interview: "I didn't watch any of it while making Avengers, but I did see it recently, and it was fantastic."

Robin Hood - Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner

Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner didn’t share any screen time together in Zack Snyder’s gritty Superman reboot, but they played Kal-El/Clark Kent’s biological and adoptive fathers, respectively. Prior to playing Supes' dads in Man of Steel, the two actors had both played Robin Hood. Costner first suited up as the skilled archer who “steals from the rich and gives to the poor” in 1991’s summer romp Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Crowe took on the role in 2010 for director Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood, which served somewhat as a prequel to the legendary tale.

Doc Holliday -  Dennis Quaid, Randy Quaid

In the 1980 Western The Long Riders, real-life siblings Dennis and Randy Quaid played brothers in a gang of bank robbers led by Jesse James. During the ‘90s, the estranged brothers each portrayed the famous gunfighter and dentist John Henry “Doc” Holliday. While the real-life gunslinger passed away when he was only 36 years old, Dennis was 40 years old when he played Holliday in Wyatt Earp (1994), and Randy was 49 years old when he portrayed him in the made-for-TV movie Purgatory (1999).

Gwen Stacy - Bryce Dallas Howard, Emma Stone

When Emma Stone got the call that she had won the role of Peter Parker’s love-interest, Gwen Stacy, in Marc Webb’s reboot of the Spider-Man franchise, she just so happened to be working alongside Bryce Dallas Howard on the movie The Help (2011). Howard had previously played the character in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. Howard said of Stone, “She's like Gwen Stacy 2.0! Faster, funnier, sexier - like more awesome! She's gonna kill it.” Stone would indeed earn praise for her incarnation of the character in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Agent K - Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin

Even though Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin have starred in three movies together, they have yet to share any screen time. In 2007, both appeared in the Coen Bros’ neo-Western thriller No Country for Old Men, as well as Paul Haggis’ murder mystery In the Valley of Elah. The parameters of this list dictate that the actors have to play the same character in different movies, but their work opposite Will Smith in Men in Black 3 (2012) technically counts: Jones was merely reprising the role of Agent K from the two previous installments in the franchise and the then-44-year-old Brolin was playing a 29-year-old version of the same character.

Jeanie Bueller - Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Grey

In 1995, Jennifer Grey made a guest appearance on Friends as the former best friend of Jennifer Aniston’s character, Rachel. Years earlier, both Jennifers played Jeanie Bueller — Grey in the 1986 John Hughes classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and Aniston in the short-lived ‘90s sitcom adaptation simply titled Ferris Bueller.

Will Smith returns to the big screen in Focus at the end of this month, and the mega-star could use a hit to get him back on the right track. If you're a big fan of his, I highly recommend this new interview he did with Esquire, which gives an insightful look into his life, career choices, acting style, and much more. It's an excellent read. In the meantime, check out a new trailer (via Collider) for the con man film in which Smith stars opposite The Wolf of Wall Street's Margot Robbie.

Focus opens on February 27th.

Everything Wrong with the James Bond Film GOLDFINGER

Uh, oh. Cinema Sins is starting to take on classic James Bond films in their "Everything Wrong With" web series. James Bond is a badass, and the Bond films that have been made over the years have been incredible. I know they aren't perfect, and Cinema Sins exists to make sure we all know that. They've released a video that tears into Goldfinger, which is easily one of my favorite Bond films.

Before Skyfall came along and won the hearts of many Bond fans, Goldfinger was long considered one of the best Bonds--if not THE best. So we thought, with Kingsman: The Secret Service coming out, maybe it was time to spend some more time with Mr. Bond. Sure found plenty of sins though.

Menacing Trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Horror Film CRIMSON PEAK

menacing-trailer-for-guillermo-del-toros-horror-film-crimson-peak

The first trailer for Guillermo del Toro's upcoming gothic horror film Crimson Peak has been released, and it looks freakin' awesome! I'm a big fan of del Toro's work, but it's his horror films that have intrigued me the most. This seems to have the makings of a true horror masterpiece, and it's going to give fans something to remember.

I absolutely love the gothic, nightmarish tone of the trailer, along with the music that slowly gets more and more unsettling as the trailer plays through. The movie stars Jessica Chastain, Tom HiddlestonMia Wasikowska, and Charlie Hunnam. Here's the synopsis:

In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers. Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, del Toro and Callum Greene produce, and Jillian Share executive produces.

In an interview with STYD, del Toro had this to say about the movie:

“Crimson Peak is a much, much, much smaller movie, completely character-driven. It’s an adult movie, an R-rated movie, pretty adult. Shockingly different from anything I’ve done in the English language. Normally, when I go to do a movie in America for the spectacle and younger audience, for Blade or whatever. This movie’s tone is scary and it’s the first time I get to do a movie more akin to what I do in the Spanish movies.”

The movie will be released on October 16th, 2015. You can see what's in store for you in the trailer below!

Recut Version of Darren Aronofsky's THE FOUNTAIN Uses Graphic Novel as Inspiration

I consider The Fountain to be Darren Aronofsky's best work. It's a masterpiece of visual storytelling infused with emotion, heart, amazing practical effects, and a colliding narrative that spans thousands of years. It also doesn't fully spell things out for the audience, leaving enough room for multiple interpretations of the film. If you haven't seen it, or even if you've only seen it once, I'd highly recommend checking it out, because it definitely rewards repeat viewings.

The Film Stage tracked down a fan cut of the movie (via Reddit) that reworks Aronofsky's film to fit more in line with the graphic novel that accompanied its release back in 2006. Here's a brief statement from Paul Herrin, who released this version on YouTube:

Darren Aronofsky's "The Fountain" recut/remix following the graphic novel storyline.

I hope this provides an additional perspective of the film to better understand the impact of non-linear narrative in post-literate visual storytelling experience.

Thematic, structural, and spatio-temporal philosophic shaping motifs make rich analysis alongside deeply spiritual and transcendent audio-visual poetics in "The Fountain".

Marion Cotillard Will Star Opposite Michael Fassbender in ASSASSIN'S CREED

$

0

At one point, the Assassin's Creed live-action film starring Michael Fassbender was scheduled to come out this year, but it's since been pushed back to December 21st, 2016. In my article talking about that rescheduled release date, I mentioned that the film could use something like Inception as a template for translating the pretty out-there story elements from the game to the big screen, and now Deadline reports that the filmmakers may be taking that suggestion to heart: Inception star Marion Cotillard has just signed on as the film's female lead.

They're keeping her role under wraps, but I could see her playing tech guru Rebecca Crane, or maybe a female assassin. I doubt she'd play Lucy Stillman, since the game's version of that character is so closely tied with Kristen Bell (the actress provided both the voice and her likeness for the character). It's tough to speculate, since the filmmakers haven't released a logline for the film and we aren't sure which game (or games) the movie will be based on. I just hope Cotillard isn't relegated to a boring "love interest" character - she's much too interesting to get stuck in a role like that.

As Deadline notes, this project is now a full-on reunion of Macbeth, the upcoming film that stars Fassbender and Cotillard and was directed by Assassin's Creed helmer Justin Kurzel. That project will be released later this year, and filming on Assassin's Creed reportedly begins in early fall. Are you excited to see Fassbender and Cotillard in this movie?

SUICIDE SQUAD: Joel Kinnaman in Negotiations to Replace Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg

A few weeks ago, it seemed as if there was a new rumor about Suicide Squad every day. Tom Hardy was initially cast as Rick Flagg, then he bailed, and guys like Jake Gyllenhaal, Jon Bernthal, Joel Edgerton, and Karl Urban were being considered as replacements. But now The Wrap reports that The Killing and Robocop star Joel Kinnaman is in negotiations to take over the role in David Ayer's upcoming Warner Bros./DC supervillain movie.

The movie centers on a group of supervillains who work on secret government operations in exchange for a reduced sentence. Kinnaman will join Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, and Jared Leto as the Joker. (Click here to hear Smith and Robbie's latest comments about Suicide Squad from earlier this morning.) Viola Davis is in talks to play Amanda Waller, while Jesse Eisenberg is rumored to be reprising his Batman V Superman role of Lex Luthor in this movie.

I have to admit it: Kinnaman isn't exactly a guy that gets me super excited about any upcoming project. He was really solid in Snabba Cash a few years ago, but to me, he's in the same league with his future co-star Jai Courtney - one of those Sam Worthington-type actors that Hollywood seems to be actively trying to turn into a star. Hopefully the role of Rick Flagg will be meaty enough for him to make a lasting impression.

Suicide Squad blasts into theaters on August 5th, 2016.

Freddie Wong has released a new insanely funny action-packed short film called London Brawling. The short was inspired by Kingsman: The Secret Service, which opens up this week in theaters. I've heard nothing but great things about this movie, and it can't wait to see it for myself! You can read our review for it here

If your familiar with Wong's YouTube videos, then you have an idea of what you are about to get yourself into. This might be one of the most high energy and action-packed shorts that he has made. The fight choreography is freakin' spectacular, and there's also a lot of great humor thrown into the mix. I have no doubt that you're going to get a kick out of this, so enjoy!

After kicking Magneto's (Michael Fassbender) ass in Steven Soderbergh's Haywire, it looks like MMA fighter-turned-movie-star Gina Carano is going to mix it up in the X-Men universe for real. THR reports that the actress has signed on to star opposite Ryan Reynolds and T.J. Miller in Deadpool, the long-brewing comic book movie adaptation that's finally heading to the big screen next year.

Carano will play a mutant named Angel Dust, and though the X-Men films have often tweaked story elements to better fit their own narratives, here's what Marvel.com says about the character:

The young woman known only as Angel Dust is a member of the small group of outcast mutants living under the streets of Chicago known as the Morlocks. These Morlocks made a pact to stay together to help each other fulfill one last "wish" left over from their lives on the surface.
In Angel Dust's case, her parents were frantic as to the whereabouts of their daughter. Seeking to provide them with some form of closure, the Morlocks helped Angel Dust reach her parents' house where she revealed to them that she was a mutant. Fearing the worst, Angel Dust was stunned to find her parents were more accepting than she gave them credit for. However, she couldn't stay with them, thanks to the threat of the giant mutant-hunting robotic Sentinels that loomed over all Morlocks.

You don't cast Carano unless you want to see her brawl on the big screen (Fast & Furious 6 can attest to that), so I'm guessing we'll see her throw down a few times. Before filming gets underway, she'll first star opposite Bruce Willis in a new thriller called Extraction. Also, THR's report says that Russian mutant Colossus will appear in Deadpool, though it's still unclear if actor Daniel Cudmore, who played the role most recently in X-Men: Days of Future Past, will reprise his role.

Carano did great work in Haywire, and I'm looking forward to seeing her career continue to bloom with her work in a comic book movie. It was only a matter of time before she was cast in one, and I'm hoping she has some nice comedic banter with Reynolds that might test her acting range a bit more than usual.

TURBO KID Video Review - Sundance 2015

We did a few video reviews while we were up in Utah for the Sundance Film Festival, so over the course of the next month or so we'll be releasing these for you to watch. We only did them for movies that we were really passionate about.

Turbo Kid was a film that we all loved, and was one of our favorites at the festival. It was just an extremely fun and violent flick that I know you would all enjoy watching. You can check out our video review for it below, or you can click here to read my written review.

The film was directed by Anouk Whissell, François Simard, and Yoann-Karl Whissell. Here's the official description:

It's 1997. In a ruined post-apocalyptic world, the orphaned Kid survives on his own through drought-ridden nuclear winter, traversing the Wasteland on his BMX, scavenging for scraps to trade for a scant supply of water. When his perpetually chipper, pink-haired new best friend Apple is kidnapped by a minion of evil overlord Zeus, the Kid summons the courage of his comic book hero and prepares to deliver turbocharged justice to Zeus, his buzzsaw-handed sidekick Skeletron, and their vicious masked army.

There is a brief advertisement before the video review starts. It is for the Walker Center building in Salt Lake City, UT. They allowed us to shoot our videos there while we were at the festival. I hope you enjoy the review!

A new trailer for Russell Crowe's directorial debut The Water Diviner has dropped, and I must say that while it looks a little Oscar bait-y, I can't deny that I'm interested to see it to find out how this true story plays out. It has some shades of Saving Private Ryan, and a sweeping scope that has already earned the film a bunch of awards in Crowe's native Australia.

Olga Kurylenko and Jai Courtney co-star, and The Water Diviner arrives in theaters on April 24th, 2015.
