Chewbacca Has Been Turned into a Furby!

chewbacca-has-been-turned-into-a-furby

Hasbro has announced possibly one of the most annoying Star Wars toys that has been made. It's a Chewbacca Furby. Sure, some of you might think it's cute, but does the world really need a Chewbacca Furby? I can see an Ewok being a Furby, but Chewbacca is just too much of a badass for this kind of ridiculousness.

Mashable got a chance to play around with "Furbacca" and they shared a Vine of it humming the Star Wars theme song. His eyes change depending on his mood, and he "gets cranky" if you pull his tail. Oh yeah, the toy is also controlled by an app because that's the future we live in.

#StarWars fans, this #Furby toy is for you. Hasbro revealed its next-generation Furby, and it's everyone's favorite furry wookiee!

Furbacca will be available this fall for $79.99. Anyone of you planning on spending $80 on this? Don't worry, I won't judge you.

Samuel L. Jackson's Run as Nick Fury Might Be Coming to an End

It has been awesome seeing Samuel L. Jackson in the role of Nick Fury over the past several years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it looks like his time could be coming to an end. During an interview with IGN, the actor revealed how many more films is in his contract, saying:

Yeah, I’ve only got two more movies in my contract. [Laughs] That might be the end of it, unless I get an extension.

The big question is...will Marvel extend the contract? Do they want to keep the character around in the universe a little longer? If they do, they'll obviously have to renegotiate the terms, and I imagine, things are going to get a bit pricier.

Of course there's the option of wrapping up Fury's place in the story over two more films, and then let him ride off into the sunset of retirement. If he's still alive, there's always a chance that somewhere down the road they could bring him back for another adventure. I would hope that they don't kill him off if they wanted to get rid of him. But it sure would create a powerful plot point to propel the the story of our heroes forward.

What would you like to see Marvel do with the character? Have Marvel extend the contract and keep him involved as long as they can, retire him, or kill him?

Infographic: How To Zombie-Proof Your Apartment

This is one of the most detailed and informative infographics I've ever come across. Though a zombie apocalypse seems pretty unlikely to actually happen, this infographic from ForRent.com (of all places) actually gives you some useful, practical information about how to survive the onslaught of the undead. It gets pretty dark, recommending that you keep a sledgehammer or axe in your place so you can tear through your neighbor's walls to avoid zombie-infested hallways if the situation gets bad enough. But hey, I guess if it's a zombie apocalypse and it comes down to me or them, sometimes tough choices have to be made.

If you're thinking, "Crap, I don't live in an apartment, I live in a house," we've got you covered on that front, too. Let us know what you think about this below!

Harrison Ford Seems To Actually Care in Trailer For THE AGE OF ADALINE

$

We don't often feature trailers for romantic dramas on GeekTyrant, but The Age of Adaline deserves mentioning for one simple reason: star Harrison Ford seems to actually give a sh*t about what he's doing in it. In recent years, Ford has leaned on his gruff persona and has - let's admit it - basically coasted through roles in films like Firewall, Cowboys & Aliens, Paranoia, Ender's Game, and Anchorman 2. (I still haven't seen 42, but I have it recorded on my DVR waiting for me to get a free two hours.) The brief glimpse we get of Ford in this trailer makes it look like the old Harrison Ford, the one from the 80s and 90s who put real power behind his performances and was just as believable as an action hero, a father, or a husband.

We haven't yet seen any of Ford's work in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but based on his rather testy relationship with that franchise, I'm guessing we're going to get a much more nuanced, impassioned performance from him in smaller movies like this than Abrams' upcoming blockbuster. The Age of Adaline stars Blake Lively as a woman who doesn't age, and Ford as an older man she once had a relationship with. Lee Toland Krieger (The Vicious Kind, Celeste & Jesse Forever) directs, and the movie opens on April 24th, 2015.

GOD OF WAR Cartoon Fan Art - Kratos Vs. Death

It's not every day that I come across a cool piece of fan art for the hit video game franchise God of War. This digital illustration comes from artist Santiago Betancur, and he called it Kratos Vs. Death. It features the character in a fun cartoonish style. It's like if Pixar or Disney were going to make an animated God of War film, this is what it would look like.

Speaking of the God of War movie, I have no idea what is happening with it. There have been no updates since 2012 when the Pacific Rim screenwriters were hired to do a re-write of the script.

Matthew Vaughn Says A KINGSMAN Sequel Would Introduce American Kingsmen

$

I'll have my review of Kingsman: The Secret Service for you later today, but in the meantime, director Matthew Vaughn recently gave an interview to Moviefone in which he talks about plans for what he and Mark Millar (who wrote the comic) would do if the film earns a sequel at the box office. A sequel hasn't been given the green light yet, but the first film is so much fun that I'd absolutely love to see one if the same creative team came back on board. When asked if he'd do another Kingsman movie, here's what he said:

I'd love to do another one. This movie really is the origin story of Eggsy. And Eggsy is really the real, true modern gentleman spy. It really isn't Harry Hart. Harry Hart is the old cliché of what you think a gentleman spy is. Eggsy will be taking on a whole new way. But it's up to the audience. If they go see it and want another one, I would absolutely love to do it. We had so much fun making this movie. And you wouldn't believe what we've got in store. Poor Mark Strong will be going on a journey that he never imagined. And we've got this idea to introduce the world to the American branch of the Kingsman.

Kingsman is facing off against Fifty Shades of Grey at the box office this weekend, so unless there's good word of mouth for Vaughn's film or it does tremendously well overseas or on home video, I'm not sure that we'll ever actually get a chance to see this sequel. But I don't doubt that he and Millar have come up with some truly insane stuff, and I'm really hoping we get a chance to check it out one day.

Dana Carvey Impersonates The Beatles Talking About Kanye West

While being interviewed by THR, comedian Dana Carvey busted out an impression of The Beatles band members John Lennon and Paul McCartney. In his little on-the-spot sketch, Lennon is talking to McCartney about his recent collaborations with Kanye West. As you've probably heard, West recently has been at the center of some controversy because he almost took Beck's moment away at the Grammys and then later said some stupidly ridiculous things about Beck and the Grammy he won. West should just stop being invited to these award shows. The guy is completely disrespectful. Anyway, this video is hilarious.

Miles Teller Joins Jonah Hill in ARMS AND THE DUDES

The Hangover director Todd Phillips is working on a movie called Arms and the Dudes, based on a crazy-but-true Rolling Stone article that tells the story of two twenty-something Miami Beach stoners who worked the system and earned a $300 million weapons contract from the U.S. government to supply guns to allies in Afghanistan during the war. The story is absolutely nuts (I read almost all of the article - it's insanely long and I didn't have time to finish it before I had to write this up), and Jesse Eisenberg and Shia LaBeouf were once in talks to play the leads.

Now Deadline reports that Whiplash star Miles Teller will join Jonah Hill in the film, with Teller playing David Packouz, a 25-year-old college dropout who was working as a massage therapist before joining his friend Efraim Diveroli (Hill) in beating out massive US companies and scoring hugely lucrative international arms deals. This seems like a great project for Phillips, and Teller and Hill are both super talented young guys who should have no problem pulling this off. If you have the time, you should read the full Rolling Stone piece, but I'm guessing the movie will be out sometime next year.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 - Making-Of Documentary

I'm still a little steamed about the lack of an Oscar nomination for The LEGO Movie. I mean, seriously: how does that movie not only NOT win an Oscar, but fail to even get nominated? It was the best animated film of last year to come out of the U.S. by a long shot. OK, rant over. Anyway, How To Train Your Dragon 2 was also pretty solid, and since that one was nominated for an Academy Award, it's in the middle of campaigning for Oscar voters. The film is available on Blu-ray and DVD right now, and DreamWorks has released one of its special features online for all to see: an hour-long making-of documentary called Where No One Goes.

You'll have to click here to watch it, but for those who love seeing Hiccup and Toothless soar through the skies, this is a cool way to see how it all comes together. Director Dean DuBlois has some cool video footage from ridiculously early on in the development process, and you can see everything from discussions about the emotions of the story to the visual effects process. Check it out and let us know what you think.

James Franco has been cast in J.J. Abrams and Stephen King's upcoming Hulu series 11/22/63. This will be Franco's biggest series commitment since General Hospital. The actor got his big break on television in Judd Apatow's beloved series Freaks and Geeks.

I was already excited for this series when it was first announced, but I never thought they'd get a star as big as Franco to bring it to life. He's perfect for the part he's playing, though, so I'm glad that they got him.

The story follows a high school English teacher named Jake Epping, who will be played by Franco. He travels back in time and tries to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. This comes along with several challenges and his mission is threatened by Lee Harvey Oswald, falling in love, and a past that doesn’t want to be changed.

Bridget Carpenter (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood) is writing the script and she will executive produce the drama alongside King and Bad Robot's Bryan Burk. There's a lot of great top-notch talent involved with this project, and it's sure to be a big hit.

We've featured the art of Orlando Arocena on the site before. He created some awesome Batman vector art, as well as making a piece specifically for GeekTyrant (which is fantastic). Check out more of his stuff right here on our site and then here at Behance. He's back with a new piece, via his Facebook page, and this one is a fan-made poster for Zack Snyder's upcoming blockbuster Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. I'm a big fan of this piece, and I especially love how Batman looks like he could have come straight over from The Animated Series. Great work as usual, Orlando!

THE HARVESTER #1 Review - Dawn Of A New Myth

$

Written by Brandon Seifert

Drawn by Eric Battle

Colored by Lee Loughridge

The start of The Harvester plays out like a horror movie you’d catch at 2am on WGN - you know, the one they show after Road House finishes. It has that same vibe, starting at some dive bar full of rapscallions that you know will either get sliced up, eaten, or if they are lucky, just die off-screen. True to form, that is pretty much what happens here, as an unkillable (at least at this point) urban myth comes to life and eviscerates a biker gang, and then disappears into the ground. While that setup might not shock anyone, that isn’t the most intriguing part of the character. That honor belongs to the man in grey, who acts as a harbinger of sorts to the Harvester’s appearances. Later in the book, you catch a glimpse of what could be a more direct relationship between the two, as opposed to just a Fringe-like recorder of events or an Uatu “I just watch things” kind of guy.

There was one more element of the story that caught my eye, which served as the tail end of the legend, in which the Harvester takes the souls of sinners back with him to Hell. It raises the stakes from a vigilante who ate some bad cheese and turned into a super-powered badass to something of more supernatural origin, and that happens to be right in my wheelhouse.

Later, we meet what seem to be the main protagonists of the book. First we have Vicki, whose interests are in chronicling people who tell the stories of the Harvester (believing there is no truth to the legend), as well as Justin, a journalist who has a direct interest in the Harvester and the trail it is leaving behind. Without getting too spoilery, it is a tried and true setup for a fun buddy cop thriller, and the target just happens to be an urban legend mythical figure. That's enough to get me intrigued.

The subject matter of this book makes it a difficult tightrope to walk dialog-wise: take yourself too seriously, and everything becomes laughable, but if you don’t take it seriously enough however, then without a joke-a-minute the tale becomes trite and boring. Writer Brandon Seifert toes the line pretty well, as there is just enough humor to break up the talk of legends and myths, yet you still feel legitimately invested in the trip you and the characters are about to embark on. Hopefully it is something that sticks through the rest of the series, and this was certainly a good start.

The one thing that cannot change is the artist. Eric Battle’s pencils along with Lee Loughridge’s colors help bring the story to life, and even when the dialog occasionally dips, the art helps keep the reader engaged until the next interesting tidbit is revealed. There are times though, especially in the opening brawl scenes, that the page seems a bit cluttered. There is so much going on and you feel as if everything was done one size too big. It wasn’t detrimental to the story overall, but during those scenes I did have to look at panels a few times over to make sure I understood the events that were playing out.

Overall, while there were not many surprises so to speak, the potential for a fun mythological thriller has my interest piqued. I’m definitely in for issue 2, but I will need some additional character development to stay for issue 3. That said, I would recommend you give it a try, and you can grab issue 1 at your local comic shop today.

STAR WARS Bladebuilders — Customizable Lightsabers From Hasbro

$

As a kid, you've only got one option when it comes to officially licensed lightsabers and that's to get a replica from the Star Wars movies or animated shows. This fall, Hasbro is releasing a line called "Bladebuilders" that lets kids custom build lightsabers to the extent that a cross-guard looks unambitious.

Kim Boyd, senior director of the Star Wars brand for Hasbro, spoke to USA Today about the new toy line:

"Star Wars is such a magical property and in particular the lightsaber is — and I think everyone would agree — the most iconic weapon of all time. This is the first time we've given kids the chance to customize through an entire system."

Hasbro's research showed that kids are very interested in customization and Bladebuilders will give kids the ability to create their own unique lightsabers. There is a kind of builder starter kit that comes with some interesting handles and extensions. The basic movie replica lightsaber is also part of Bladebuilders, but it can be broken down into components and remixed with others.

This seems like the perfect Christmas gift for creative young Star Wars fans who lack the skills and tools to build one from scratch.

Review: KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE Is More Entertaining Than Bond

$

Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service is a sharp, stylish, spectacular spy film that offers more pure entertainment than any Bond film ever made. It's the antithesis of its overly serious contemporaries, a rare combination of action, humor, and character building that left me wanting to immediately see a sequel.

This project is a reunion for Vaughn and comic book writer Mark Millar, who penned both the comic on which this film is based and the comic Kick-Ass, which Vaughn also adapted for the big screen. Though Millar didn't write this screenplay (Vaughn and his longtime collaborator Jane Goldman share that credit), you can feel his influence all over this film: the irreverent humor, the meta-awareness of genre conventions, and the hyper-stylized violence are Millar calling cards. Vaughn excels at breathing life into all of these elements, and he tackles this story with the same fast-paced fun that he did with the excellent X-Men: First Class. Some of the story beats are similar - a group of talented young people solving complex challenges at a secluded, ornate mansion - but mostly, the film allows Vaughn the opportunity to pay homage to the James Bond franchise...and does he ever.

I've seen people favorably comparing Kingsman to the Roger Moore-era Bond films, but having literally just watched every single one of the Moore movies over the past few months, this is, in fact, everything those movies wanted to be, but failed to achieve. As with all movies, the most important elements are character and story, and while I won't spend time recapping the plot for you, suffice it to say that Taron Egerton's Eggsy and Colin Firth's Harry Hart are terrific characters that you instantly care about. I never cared about Moore's Bond as a person, and the (mostly) terrible scripts he was given put more focus on stupid one-liners and bad puns than character moments. The difference here is that this movie has it all: the humor actually works, the characters are relatable and captivating, and the villain's plan isn't some idiotic scheme just to take over the world. It's shaken, not stirred. There's a full-fledged story happening, and Vaughn's love for spy films shines through in the best possible way.

The movie is also a playground for its actors. When I first heard that Colin Firth would be playing a badass super spy, I rolled my eyes. "The King's Speech guy? Come on." But he totally nails it, bringing sophistication and physicality to the role in equal parts. (There's a brutal brawl sequence in a church set to the epic guitar solo from Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Freebird" that will rock your world.) Samuel L. Jackson, armed with a cocked baseball cap and a lisp, has a ton of fun as a tech billionaire, while Michael Caine and Mark Strong put a modern spin on the M and Q templates, respectively, from the Bond franchise. And Egerton, an actor I haven't seen in anything else, brings a great Attack the Block-style swagger to his character.

From a henchwoman who has swords in her prosthetic legs to a plethora of awesome gadgets, from a villain's mountain lair to the hero's impeccable sense of style, Kingsman delivers everything you'd expect in a genre movie. In a year packed with spy films - Mission: Impossible 5, Spectre, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Spy, and Spielberg's untitled Cold War spy movie, just to name a few - this one might be the most balls-out, action-packed, and enthusiastic of them all.

Trailer for Reese Witherspoon’s Comedy HOT PURSUIT

Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara star in an upcoming new comedy called Hot Pursuit, directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, 27 Dresses), and today we have the first trailer. I know this isn't the first comedy that Witherspoon has made, but it’s weird to see her do a movie like this, especially after reaching a milestone with Wild and being nominated for a second Oscar for her role in that movie. Hot Pursuit just seems like a step in the wrong direction after an accomplishment like that. I’m just not into movies like this, but there are plenty of people out there who are. I just think anyone could have played the character she plays. Here’s the synopsis:

An uptight and by-the-book cop (Witherspoon) tries to protect the sexy and outgoing widow (Vergara) of a drug boss as they race through Texas pursued by crooked cops and murderous gunmen.

The movie also stars John Carroll Lynch, Rob Kazinsky, and Richard T. Jones. It will be released on May 8th, 2015.

The gang over at How It Should Have Ended has released an enjoyable animated video that offers us their version of how X-Men: Days of Future Past should have ended.

One of my main issues with the movie was the fact that they didn’t utilize Quicksilver enough. He stole the show! Had the other X-Men actually allowed him to help them out through the rest of the movie, things would have been a lot easier for them. This video plays around with that concept.

Sinister Teaser for REGRESSION with Emma Watson and Ethan Hawke

sinister-teaser-for-regression-with-emma-watson-and-ethan-hawke

We have an international teaser trailer for you to watch for a great looking horror thriller called Regression. The movie stars Emma Watson and Ethan Hawke, and the story is set in the 1990s. It centers on a father who is accused by his daughter (Watson) of a crime that he has no memory of committing. Hawke plays the detective investigating the matter, and David Thewlis plays a psychologist who helps with the case.

The movie was directed Alejandro Amenábar, and it’s an intriguing story that is inspired by actual events. As you may have heard, back in the late 80s and early 90s there were a lot of kids accusing their parents of Satanic ritual type abuse. There was also a lot of mass paranoia about this stuff. It was seriously the Salem witch hunt all over again, and like Salem, most of it involved false accusations. The movie will explore whether or not Watson’s claims are true, or if there’s something more to her story that she’s not telling.

Minnesota, 1990. Detective Bruce Kenner (Ethan Hawke) investigates the case of young Angela (Emma Watson), who accuses her father, John Gray (David Dencik), of an unspeakable crime. When John unexpectedly and without recollection admits guilt, renowned psychologist Dr. Raines (David Thewlis) is brought in to help him relive his memories and what they discover unmasks a horrifying nationwide mystery.

The movie will be released on August 28th, 2015, and it also stars David Dencik, Lothaire Bluteau, and Devon Bostick.

NASA has released the official poster for the International Space Station mission Expedition 45, a.k.a. "Expedition XLV: The Science Continues." It features the six person astronaut crew dressed up as Jedi warriors and wielding lightsabers. It's always awesome to see these badass scientists geek out like the rest of us.

The expedition crew is an international team that includes Commander Scott Kelly and flight engineer Kjell Lindgren from NASA. JAXA flight engineer Kimiya Yui from Japan, and Cosmonaut flight engineers Oleg KononenkoMikhail Kornienko, and Sergey Volkov from Russia.

It looks like there's one person on board the space station that the other five have to worry about. Lindgren is holding a red lightsaber, which as you know is traditionally the Sith saber color. Maybe his objective is to turn the space station into a real Death Star.

Will Smith and Margot Robbie Talk SUICIDE SQUAD, David Ayer's Secrecy

will-smith-margot-robbie-talk-suicide-squad-david-ayers-secrecy

Will Smith and Margot Robbie are currently making the press rounds for their upcoming film Focus. The two talents will be teaming up again soon for director David Ayer's Suicide Squad, which I'm really looking forward to. Smith will be taking on the role of Deadshot in the movie, and Robbie will be taking on the the role of Harley Quinn, which she is perfect for.

During an interview with Flicks and the City the two actors talk about Suicide Squad, how their relationship in that film will be different from their characters in Focus, and Ayer's secrecy surrounding the project.

They are both obviously looking forward to making the film and Smith says, "I'm looking forward to it too, but I don't know what it's going to be character-wise." Margot added, "We don't know what our characters' relationship is really gonna be [because] it's ever-changing."

Talking about how Ayer works on his films, Smith says, "It's really cool, the way that David Ayer works. It's all images, all ideas, and he holds the screenplay [pretty close] and he just keeps sending you things about your character. He just wants you to be prepared for anything."

They go on to say that one thing they do know is that Harley Quinn and Deadshot will be allies in the story, but they also admitted that they don't know what exactly the movie is going to be like yet. Robbie says, "We're not being secretive, we just actually don't know," and Smith added that "[Ayer] only sends your character's stuff so you don't know what's going on with the other characters; I think he wants it to come alive on set."

That definitely sounds like an interesting way of making a movie. You would think the actors would want to know what exactly they are getting themselves into. Smith then spoke about why he took on the role.

"I guess I like the concept of dubious morals. I always liked to play in that area [...]. With Suicide Squad, we just started on that. I think I haven't explored the psychology enough of Deadshot, somebody who could take money to kill people; how he justifies that for himself. So, I still have a little bit of work to do on that, but in my life in general and in my career, those are the type of roles that I'm pushing more towards; those kinds of questions."

Out of all the DC comic book movies being made, this is the one I'm most excited about. It's full of great characters and has the potential to be an incredible film, especially with the talent involved in bringing it to life. The movie will be released on August 5th, 2016.
