Jason Statham Kicks Ass in Las Vegas in Trailer for WILD CARD

jason-statham-kicks-ass-in-las-vegas-in-trailer-for-wild-card

Jason Statham is back and getting violent with a bunch of Las Vegas thugs in his latest action thriller Wild Card, which is called Joker in the the UK. The movie is a remake of the 1987 film Heat with Burt Reynolds, and it was supposed to be directed by Brian De Palma before The Mechanic and The Expendables 2 director Simon West took it over.

It looks like an awesome action flick, and I imagine Statham fans won't be disappointed in what they see in this trailer. He just goes on a Vegas rampage kicking all kinds of ass! Here's the synopsis:

Nick Wild, an ex-marine and gambling addict, goes into the protection business but plans to leave Las Vegas for a better life. When his last girlfriend, Holly, is found beaten and left for dead, he agrees to help revenge her. He will soon discover that the guilty man is Danny DeMarco, a member of a powerful mob family.

The film also stars Michael Angarano, Hope Davis, Milo Ventimiglia, Stanley Tucci, Jason Alexander, Sofía Vergara, and Anne Heche. It comes out in the UK in January and in the US sometime later next year.

Even though Star Trek writer Alex Kurtzman has been hard at work developing a Venom feature film for Sony Pictures, at this point it seems like there's no guarantee that it's going to happen. The studio doesn't seem to know what they want to do with the Spider-Man characters that they hold the rights to. In the meantime. fans are creating all kinds of awesome stuff that we would love to see brought to life on the big screen, like this illustration featuring Venom fighting Anti-Venom. The piece was created by Isuardi Therianto, and it's pretty badass.

31 Screenshots from the STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Trailer

Earlier today Lucasfilm unleashed the long awaited trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. If you haven't seen it yet... why?! Especially since you can watch it right here. Of course, a few Star Wars fans are complaining about the first trailer, but you won't hear any complaints from me! I freakin' loved it. It hit me in all the right spots. The trailer is short, and it's got a lot of quick shots, so I thought I'd take a bunch of screenshots breaking it down for you, so you can spend a little more time looking at what the trailer has to offer. There's not much hidden in these trailers, the visuals are pretty self explanatory. The look of the film is amazing; The stormtroopers look badass; the villain with the lightsaber seems awesomely menacing; and the Millennium Falcon at the end engaging with the Tie Fighters is the icing on the cake. I will point out that a lot of fans think the villainous voice narrating the trailer sounds like Benedict Cumberbatch, who was rumored to be cast in the film a long time ago. But it could very well be Andy Serkis, who was actually cast in the film. What do you think? Then in case you were wondering who that guy is in the Rebel Alliance wingsuit, that's Oscar Isaac.

JURASSIC WORLD Director Discusses Movie and Trailer Details

jurassic-world-director-discusses-movie-details

Hold on to your butts. Earlier this week Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures released the first trailer for director Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World. It seems like a lot of fans were disappointed by its lack of dinosaurs. I'm sure there are going to be plenty of terrifying bloodthirsty dinos in the film, though, so I wouldn't worry.

Trevorrow recently did an interview with Empire to discuss movie and the trailer that was released. A few of the questions that the trailer raised were: Why would these people genetically create a new dinosaur, has Chris Pratt's character trained the Velociraptors and will we see the iconic Tyrannosaurus Rex? About this new dino creation, he said,

“This new creation is what gave me a reason to tell another Jurassic Park story. We have the most awe-inspiring creatures to ever walk the Earth right in front of us, but for some reason that’s not enough. We’re always hungry for the next thing, and those who profit from it are always looking to feed that hunger. The focus groups want something bigger than a T-Rex. And that’s what they get.”

Then it obviously kills a ton of people and destroys the park that they had built. Trevorrow went on to talk about the Mosasaurus, which came out of a pitch meeting with producers Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall, who hadn't really considered an aquatic dinosaur.

“I thought it would be cool if we had this massive animal and the park used one of our most fearsome modern predators as food. There could be a whole other facility where they used shark DNA to mass-produce them to feed the bigger beast. It’s a bonkers idea, but I’m comfortable going to Crazytown, because I used to live there when I was a kid.”

Hey! I used to live in Crazytown too! It's a great place to visit if you've never been there. The director then spoke about Pratt’s character, Owen, who has apparently trained the Velociraptors of Jurassic World to help him hunt down the dinosaur that was “cooked up in the lab.” Of course, things are a little more complicated than that.

“Owen’s relationship with the raptors is complicated. They aren’t friends. These animals are nasty and dangerous and they’ll bite your head off if you make the wrong move. But there are men and women out there today who have forged tenuous connections with dangerous predators. That’s interesting territory to me.”

Trevorrow was then asked if we’d be seeing the iconic T-Rex in Jurassic World, and he replied:

“You bet your ass you will.”

Of course the T-Rex is going to be in the movie! It wouldn't be a Jurassic Park movie without it!

Universal also recently launched the official site for the film, which has been updated since the trailer was released. It now includes some new and details about the actual park, including photos of the main street/gift shop/petting zoo, a video guide of Isla Nublar’s Hilton Hotel, and more. As we get closer the the release of the film, more details will be unlocked on the site.

There are also some cool Easter egg references to the original Jurassic Park film on the site for fans to enjoy. There's a restaurant named Winston’s, which is named after special effects artist Stan Winston, who developed the animatronics for the series. Also the top item on the menu for the restaurant is the Chilean Sea Bass, which, as you may or may not remember, is the same meal the group scientists ate before heading off for their deadly tour in the original movie. Then, of course, there’s a meet-and-greet with the Mr. DNA!

Jurassic World will be released in theaters on June 12th, 2015.

5 HOBBIT Empire Magazine Covers, Plus Bilbo and Frodo Chillin' in Photo

Empire Magazine has released five new covers featuring characters from The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. They also have a great photo of Bilbo and Frodo actors Martin Freeman and Elijah Wood just chillin' out. The two actors never share screen time in these films, so it's kind of cool to see them together like this, even if they aren't in character. The movie is set to be released on December 17th, 2015, which is a date that can't get here soon enough! I also included an international TV spot just for the hell of it!

BATMAN: THE MAKING OF A HERO - 1989 Tim Burton Batman Documentary

batman-the-making-of-a-hero-tim-burton-batman-documentary

Here is a great 25-minute 1989 "making of" documentary special that was made for Tim Burton's classic Batman film. The doc is called Batman: The Making of a Hero, and apparently it's something you can't find on any of the home release versions of the film. The doc features interviews with Burton, Michael Keaton, Kim Basinger, and Batman creator Bob Kane. It also includes some great behind-the-scenes footage from the movie. I've never seen this before, and it was a really nice treat to watch, especially since I'm such a big fan of this flick.

Brenton Thwaites Cast in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5

brenton-thwaites-cast-in-pirates-of-the-caribbean-5

Brenton Thwaits, who recently starred in The Giver, has been cast alongside Johnny Depp in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Thwaites is a very talented young actor, and if cast, he will take on the role of a character named Henry.

The report also says that Javier Bardem will be playing the film’s villain, Captain Brand. According to The Wrap, Brand is a ghost that is hellbent on getting revenge against Captain Jack Sparrow. Apparently he blames Sparrow for his brother's death.

Geoffrey Rush is returning to the franchise as Captain Barbossa, and there are rumors that Orlando Bloom could return as William Turner as well.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is set to be shot in Queensland, Australia, and it’s being directed by the talented Kon-Tiki helmers, Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg

I’m actually looking forward to this one because I think the directors will be able to give us something different and fresh. The movie is set to be released in theaters on July 7th, 2017.

There's another hilarious episode of Bad Lip Reading for you to enjoy! This time they take on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and they make Katniss look like a completely insane person! It is ridiculously funny, and if you have fun watching these videos, you're going to love this one. They even made a music video that I included as well.

You can watch some of the previously released videos for the first The Hunger GamesThe Amazing Spider-Man, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and Twilight. I hope you enjoy the latest installment! I'm surprised they haven't done any videos like this for any of the Marvel movies yet.

Patrick Stewart Is a Ballet Instructor in MATCH Trailer

Patrick Stewart has been a starship Captain, a leader of a team of mutant superheroes, a skinhead neo-nazi leader, and now a ballet instructor. This guy is so diverse in the roles that he chooses, and it’s always fun to see him act. He looks great in this fantastic looking film. Stewart is always awesome even when he's not making geeky films.

IFC has released the first trailer for his next film called Match, in which he plays an aging ballet instructor in New York City who is hired to work at Julliard. He is “interviewed by a woman and her husband for her dissertation on the history of dance in 1960's New York. It becomes increasingly clear they're prying into his sordid past in this explosive drama of sex, secrets, and lies.”

The movie also stars Carla Gugino, Matthew Lillard, and Maduka Steady. It is based on the Tony-nominated play, and it will be released in limited theaters starting January 14th, 2015 and VOD starting January 16th.

Read Ridiculously Positive Reactions to STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE Teaser Trailer

0
0

Yesterday Lucasfilm released the first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and fans were overcome with blissfully happiness. I found myself overcome with emotion when I watched the trailer. I just hoped to hell that the movie will reach its full potential of epic awesomeness. I trust this franchise in the hands of J.J. Abrams, but back in 1998, a ton of fans trusted George Lucas with Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace only to be completely let down. Now, I understand that there is a small group of fans that like the prequel movies, but I'm not one of them.

The Phantom Menace teaser was released on November 18th, 1998, it was the first Star Wars trailer to debut in 20 years, and also the first to be released during the Internet age. So, needless to say, Star Wars fans at the time were extremely excited to get their first glimpse at what Lucas had in store for them, and they ate it up! Here are some reactions from fans at the time that you can read through for a few laughs. After seeing how The Phantom Menace actually turned out, these are actually quite hilarious. I came across these on Dorkly, and it offered some good entertainment.

The Tuscaloosa News:

reviewphtnaommeancegt

TheForce.net:

At an afternoon screening of "Meet Joe Black" yesterday at the Uptown Theater in Cleveland Park, fans -- mostly male -- sat in anticipation, reading comic books and scholarly texts about cinema. But at least a dozen people left before the film started. It wasn't the thought of three hours of Brad Pitt as Death that scared them away: They had come just for the trailer.
"Unbelievable," said a visibly elated Rob McNeese, 24, an Arlington college student. "I consider myself a harsh critic, but after the trailer I was applauding."
"It's going to be incredible," said Jim Herr, 31, after quietly escaping from "Meet Joe Black." Herr, who predicts the film will knock "Titanic" off its No. 1 worldwide box office perch, heard about the advance screening at a funeral.

FilmThreat:

From the moment the "Lucasfilm Ltd." logo appeared, the crowd was cheering. From the serene, opening shots of (presumably) Naboo, Tatooine, and Coruscant to the action shots from all over, we were glued. As this is one of probably 8 thousand reviews to be posted in the last 24 hours, I'll stick to the highlights:
- A lot of Japanese influence with Coruscant and the young Queen's (Natalie Portman) costume and make-up.
- Darth Maul is one incredible looking villian. Dressed all in black, his head is coverend in a demonic red and and black pattern and he fights with a short staff with a light saber at either end.
- There's a shot of R2D2 and C3PO together where C3PO has no outer shell.
- Jar Jar Binks, the all CGI sidekick looks pretty cool.
- The folks at Kenner will be busy as we see a whole bunch of future action figures and ships.
- Yoda's still a muppet, but a younger, more cherubic one. (Isn't he only around 40 years younger than in "Empire" here? He's supposed to live for centuries so should he look that different?)
- Thankfully, we don't see much of the actual plot.
So, does it appear to live up to our expectations? Yup. As "Jedi" was an indication Lucas was burned out on the whole thing, he seems to have spent a great deal of time considering why "Star Wars" worked as well as it did. I think he figured it out. "Episode I" feels like "A New Hope", only on a grander scale. While there are some comic relief CGI characters on display, it doesn't appear anything like "Jedi: the Muppet Movie", and while "Empire Strikes Back" is a fine film with more character depth, you can't get lost in it like the first one. That's what I see the man in the back of the theater going for, right here. I can't wait to see it. I hope he went home to the ranch a happy man, tonight. His job is done.

AintItCoolNews:

All around me, there were actual tears of joy. There was excited hollering. There were hugs, people laughing uncontrollably. As the haze passed and I realized there was a movie playing, one thing kept going through my head.
Thank you, George. Thank you, George. Thank you, George.
As I prepare to sleep now, visions of the prequel dance behind my eyes. I am exhausted, but I know sleep won't come easy. Now that the worst wait is over, the final stretch begins. Six months. I could do that standing on my head. Whatever we're going to see in those theaters next May, it's going to be something special. More importantly, the experience of seeing it with all of you will make it even more special. I am thankful I saw it with that crowd tonight. There was love pouring out of everyone in that theater. There was joy, pure and simple, over the viewing of the footage. I felt like I was among family.
It was a wonderful, magical night, the kind that keeps me going to the movies, and all I can say to sum it up is what I said before.
Thank you, George. Thank you, George. Thank you, George

Hell, I was excited when I first saw The Phantom Menace trailer, so I can't blame other people for being excited. We were all just hoping for something so much better than what we ultimately ended up getting. They also posted parts of a script review for The Phantom Menace from AintItCoolNews that definitely had me laughing. I totally remember reading this!

On the story as a whole:

You can't possibly know how textured and wonderful the story Lucas has to tell is going to be. The thing that makes THE PHANTOM MENACE possibly my favorite STAR WARS story so far (on paper, mind you) is the details. The time off has done something unexpected to Lucas as a storyteller -- it made him better. Considering how he's always doubted himself as a writer, I think it showed remarkable confidence in not putting this script through another writer, someone who might have diluted our return to this place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

On Jar Jar Binks:

This script balances the humor with honest, direct writing that gives Jar Jar (dare I say?) a soul. He may be a sidekick, but here's betting that Jar Jar Binks becomes one of the biggest EPISODE I stars once audiences get their real introduction.

On Anakin Skywalker:

God, I love this kid. It makes me feel sick from grief when I realize that he's going to be Darth Vader someday, hated, feared, a symbol of evil. This kid is a good, pure spirit, beloved by the people around him. ...If he works, this will be one of the most textured kids roles in history.

On the ending:

The new technology is nice, but these films feel more like your average indie than a studio action blockbuster.

I'm still insanely excited for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and I loved that trailer that was released for it. I think Abrams and LucasFilm are going to give us a Star Wars film that we're all going to love. Of course, that's exactly what a lot of us thought when we saw the trailer for The Phantom Menace, so who knows what we're actually going to get.

Trailer for FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD with Carey Mulligan

A trailer has been released for a sensational looking period movie called Far From the Madding Crowd. The film is based on the literary classic written by Thomas Hardy. Carey Mulligan stars in the film as Bathsheba Everdene, who seizes the hearts of three men in this romantic tale. The rest of the cast includes Tom Sturridge as Frank Troy, Michael Sheen as William Boldwood, and Matthias Schoenaerts as Gabriel Oak.

FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD is the story of independent, beautiful and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (Mulligan), who attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak (Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching wilfulness; Frank Troy (Sturridge), a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood (Sheen), a prosperous and mature bachelor. This timeless story of Bathsheba’s choices and passions explores the nature of relationships and love – as well as the human ability to overcome hardships through resilience and perseverance.

Far From the Madding Crowd will be released in theaters in 2015.

Double Trouble is an amusing slapstick comedy short created by Swedish filmmakers Andreas Climent and André Hedetoft. It tells a story about "a shy young man who misses the opportunity to talk to the girl of his dreams. When he finds a mysterious pocket watch that can turn back time, he gets a second chance…" The short was inspired by the great adventure movies of the '80s and was funded in part through Kickstarter. The short turned out to be very charming and entertaining, and I hope you take the time to give it a watch. I think you'll enjoy it.

Trailer for the Animated Comedy SHAUN THE SHEEP

The first trailer and poster have been released for Aardman’s animated comedic adventure, Shaun the Sheep. This comes from the production company that brought us Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run. I’ve enjoyed the films and shorts that Aardman has made over the years, and this looks like it will be just as fun as the stories they've told in the past.

When Shaun decides to take the day off and have some fun, he gets a little more action than he bargained for! Shaun’s mischief inadvertently leads to The Farmer being taken away from the farm, to the Big City…

Join Shaun, Bitzer and The Flock on their hilarious, action-packed, big screen adventure as they make plans to rescue the missing Farmer. A story about how we sometimes forget to appreciate the things we have in life, and the people who love us. Shaun the Sheep The Movie introduces us to two new Aardman characters; Trumper the animal warden who rules the city’s animal shelter with a rod of iron and Slip, an inner city orphan dog who helps Shaun save the day.

The movie comes out sometime in 2015.

Jake Gyllenhaal Is Ripped in Photo from SOUTHPAW

0
0
jake-gyllenhaal-is-ripped-out-in-photo-from-southpaw

Damn! Jake Gyllenhaall is completely ripped in this first photo from his upcoming boxing film, Southpaw. This is the complete opposite from the character he played in his last movie, Nightcrawler, in which he played a nocturnal adrenaline junkie camera man. He looked sickly thin that movie, and now he’s looking like he could kick anyone’s ass! He’s a freakin’ beast! Apparently he gained fifteen pounds of pure muscle to play this role.

Gyllenhaal plays Junior Middleweight Champion Billy “The Great” Hope, who is a "lefty champ who loses everything in a personal tragedy and is forced to fight his way to redemption." The movie is being directed by Antoine Fuqua, and this is what he said about Gyllenhaall in an interview with Deadline:

“I’m so pumped, man. Jake is going to change how people see him. I had him training twice a day in the boxing ring, he did two-a-days seven days a week. I pretty much had him with me and my trainer every day. I took him to almost every fight. I had him train at Floyd Mayweather’s gym in Vegas and we watched Floyd’s fights, and the Manny Pacquiao fight. He trained in New York at Church Gym with real fighters. We literally turned him into a beast… Jake, my god, he’s a very electric, powerful fighter in this movie, and a guy who fights for his daughter. I’m confident that this will change how people see Jake, as a leading man.

“He sure has grown up. I love this guy. I met Jake years ago before he did End of Watch, and I saw something in him. I told him he needed to do more masculine films because I could see he had this power in him, and good size, and great expressive eyes. When I met him I said, ‘You’ve got to start doing that.’ And I watched him start. Working with him was a great experience because he’s so committed and gives his heart. You’re going to see in this movie, how far he has come. I asked this guy from day one, ‘I need you in the gym every day. I need you to train every day.’ And I said, ‘The word is sacrifice.’

“Literally. I think he broke up with his girlfriend because he was just in the gym every day. He was training like a fighter. I had him sparring, really getting hit. I put him in situations where I wanted to see what he was made of. No one but fighters understand the sacrifice it takes to be a fighter.”

I can’t wait to see this. I’ve been a fan of Gyllenhaal for a long time, and it’s been cool to see him grow as an actor over the years. I loved him in Nightcrawler, and I’m hoping this one will be just as amazing.
