Disney's animated series Gargoyles is one of the greatest animated series to come out of the '90s. It was such a cool show, and it's a shame that we still have yet to see a feature film adaptation. In celebration of Halloween, one of the producers and directors of the series, Frank Paur, created this awesome image of the character Demona "Wishing You a Terrorificly Demonaic Halloween."

THE CROW Creator James O'Barr Offers More Details on New Movie

An in-depth interview with The Crow creator James O'Barr was recently released by Korsgaard Commentary, and it offers up some big updates on the remake that is currently in development.

A lot of fans of the original film aren't too happy with this new movie being made, but with O'Barr's involvement in bringing it to the big screen and Luke Evans playing the title role, I've kind of warmed up to the idea. One of the first things that O'Barr clarifies in the interview is that they are not remaking the first movie:

"[W]e're not remaking the movie. We're readapting the book. My metaphor is that there is a Bela Lugosi Dracula and there's a Francis Ford Coppola Dracula. They use the same material, but you still got two entirely different films. This one's going to be closer to Taxi Driver or a John Woo film, and I think there's room for both of them. Part of the appeal of The Crow comics, after all, is that they can tell very different stories."

O'Barr goes on to explain the differences between the Eric character that will be played by Evans, and the Eric Draven character played by Brandon Lee in the first movie.

"If you read the comic, Eric and Shelley never have their last names revealed. Hopefully, this is one area the new movie being more faithful to the comic will come into play, and Eric won't be going by Eric Draven in the new film. Luke Evans may play Eric, but Brandon Lee will forever be Eric Draven... [N]o one understands that fear more than me. Brandon Lee was a friend and I'd never do anything to hurt his legacy."

O'Barr then reveals that one of the requests he made before joining the film project was that he would have control over its soundtrack. This is the same deal that he made for the 1994 Alex Proyas-directed adaptation. So I guess we might see some similarities in that aspect.

"We're including some music I'd wanted to originally, but just couldn't get the rights to. Some actual Joy Division songs. Some vintage Cure songs. I'm still pretty active in the music industry, and there is a lot of neo-goth bands out there, that have that same sound, and I've talked to some of them about contributing, and they're very excited about it."

The creator of the comic has already seen Evans in the make-up for the character, and he has signed off on the look. It sounds like he really likes what they've done with it.

"I've seen him in the make-up, too, and he looks great... I think the studio understands that if they want a Crow ‘franchise,' they have to get it right. We're hoping to begin production later this month, and start shooting in the spring."

The movie is set to be directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez, and the more I hear O'Barr talk about the movie, the more open I am to the project. This new film could actually turn out really freakin' good.

Joel Schumacher is Making a BATMAN & ROBIN Comic Book Sequel

$

So, uh… for some reason filmmaker Joel Schumacher is looking to make a sequel to his terrible 1990 Batman & Robin movie! This is one of the most ridiculous things that I've ever heard. I don't know why, but apparently DC comics will purposely publish a 12-issue comic that will continue that terrible story. I have absolutely no desire ever to revisit any of the Batman movies that Schumacher made, not even in comic book form.

Schumacher will write the comic, and it will be based on the script for a fifth Batman movie he was supposed to direct, called Batman Triumphant. That movie was apparently going to close out a Batman trilogy that Schmacher had planned. Lucky for us, Warner Bros. didn't waste their money on it.

In case you're wondering what we missed out on, according to Batman Wiki the main villain of Batman Triumphant was going to be the Scarecrow, and his sidekick would have been Harley Quinn, who was the Joker's daughter looking for revenge in this version. The Joker was also set to return as a fear toxin-induced hallucination in Batman's mind.

The news comes from Bleeding Cool, who also says the art will be done by comic artist Dustin Nguyen. So there is an upside to this. I love Nguyen's work. The big question is... will the bat suit include the nipples that everyone loathed in the film!? I still don't understand why they ever had those nipples on there.

George Clooney recently attended New York Comic Con and while he was there moderator Chris Hardwick kind of teased him about his portrayal of Batman. Clooney said with a smile,

“I’ve seen all the comments sections on all you guys… I met Adam West back there just now, and I said, ‘Hey, I’m really sorry.’ We fist-pumped and I was like, ‘Just hit me.’ I’m sorry about the nipples on the suit. And he was like, ‘Oh, it’s O.K., old chum.’"

Are any of you excited to hear that Batman & Robin is getting a comic book sequel, and will you be reading it when it comes out?

The Goonies Meets X-Files in Jason Eisner Directed Video THE BELIEVERS

Hobo With a Shotgun director Jason Eisner directed this magically imaginative music video called "The Believers." The song is titled "Want to Believe," and it comes from Rich Aucoin. The music video for it offers an amazing mix of nostalgia for me, as it was heavily influenced by The Goonies and The X-Files. It features group of BMX-riding kids who are looking for an adventure with a burnt-out looking Fox Mulder-type character who is obviously obsessed with exploring the supernatural and unknown. He even has the classic "I want to Believe" poster hanging up on his wall. Together they end up getting into some crazy hijinks. On top of the awesome music video, I really like the song! It's a great, feel-good, upbeat tune. I think you're all going to love this.

Kevin Smith Offers More Details on CLERKS III

For those of you Kevin Smith fans looking forward to Clerks III the director offered some new details in a recent episode of his "Smodcast" podcast. In the update he reveals that his podcast guest, Jeff Anderson, will return to play Randal in the film; the first ten minutes of the film will be shot in black and white; and he confirmed that Jay and Silent Bob will be back. Of course, it wouldn't really be a Clerks film without Jay and Silent Bob. This is what Anderson said about the script,

"I like the script. It’s being introduced to these characters that are friends. Friends of mine. Friends of ours. Whether or not I was going to do the movie, I wanted to read the script. Just for closure for myself! Fuck the fans, I just wanna know! Yeah, it’s a very different movie and that’s what I like about it. Clerks II was a very different movie from 1, but it wasn’t THAT different.Clerks III . . . still not THAT different, but different in a different way. Different, different, different, different. Clerks to me was a gritty movie. Clerks II became this brighter movie. Clerks III to me feels somewhere between 1 and 2. It feels a little gritty and we go back to the beginning stages, but we do see the progression."

Smith then chimed in to talk about his vision of the movie and compared it The Empire Strikes Back.

"The first ten minutes are in black and white. We do enough black and white that kinda makes sense. But I like where [the story] f*cking goes so much. It's my favorite soap opera now. It's kinda like The Empire Strikes Back of the Clerks movies. It doesn't tell the middle story, but it has that kinda feeling."

And in case you are wondering how much Jay and Silent Bob will be in the film, he said, “They’re in the movie as much as they were in Clerks and Clerks II.”

Smith looking to start shooting the film in June, after he finishes Yoga Hosers, and the production on his holiday horror anthology Comes the Krampus is complete. It will be fun to revisit these characters again.

This kid doing the Annie Potts role is fantastic. He is my favorite thing in the whole trailer.

A lot of geeks (somewhat understandably) have their panties in a twist about the all-lady Ghostbusters reboot/remake in development, but if it is half as cool as this shot for shot remake of the original trailer for Ghostbusters, then we are in for a good time. Interestingly, this entire thing is gender-swapped, with girls as the Ghostbusters and boys playing Janine and Dana. And I say girls and boys rather than men and women because this whole thing was made by middle schoolers. Yeah, you read that right. I don’t know what you guys were up to in middle school, but I was mostly buying nail polish at the dollar store and writing names of cute boys on my shoes. I was nowhere near this enterprising or cool, so hats off to these kids. Luckily, Paul Feig, director of the new Ghostbusters movie, has definitely seen this, so hopefully he'll poach some ideas. Like sweding the whole thing. I'd watch the hell out of that.

"Love is the one thing that transcends time and space."

We won't have to wait much longer before we finally get to see Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated sci-fi epic Interstellar. Paramount Pictures has released three new TV spots for the movie, and they offer up a bit of new footage from the movie for you gaze your eyes upon.

I'm kind of surprised that a more detailed plot synopsis for this movie hasn't been released. The only thing we've really had is the following brief plot summary:

Interstellar chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

It's kind of crazy to think that a week before this movie comes out, we still know very little about what the full story entails.

The movie stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn, and Michael Caine. it will be released early on November 5th at select theaters and on November 7th everywhere. All three spots are in the video embed below.

Perfectly Chilling Halloween Horror Short - BOXGIRL

Just in time for Halloween, here's a creepy horror short called "Boxgirl"for you to watch. The movie was directed by Rocky Curby, and it centers on two kids who discover a mysterious box that is dying to be opened. The short begins with a wonderfully eerie background story about a witch who spits magic out of her mouth and makes people's nightmares real. A witch hunter traps her head in a box and she goes to sleep. After many, many years, the witch is awakened by a "child's curiosity." The film is extremely well made, and I absolutely loved the story. It's a perfect Halloween film, and I hope you enjoy it! It's very violent and bloody, so you might not want to watch it at work. Thanks to the director for sending this to us!

STAR WARS: GALACTIC DEFENSE — Mobile Tower Defense Game Trailer

Developer :DeNA has released a launch trailer for Star Wars: Galactic Defense, which is a tower defense game I'm sure to get addicted to. It's available on iOS, Android, and Amazon devices.

I've only just installed it, but so far the graphics, music, and sound effects are all authentically Star Wars. If the game is worthwhile, I'll write an in-depth review for it. However, if you're already a fan of tower defense games or Star Wars, give this one a try because it's free-to-play. Unfortunately, that could also mean it'll be a long grind with incentives to buy "gems" to ease or hurry gameplay. I miss the days when I could buy a mobile game and have it be a complete and balanced experience.

20 Fun Facts about John Carpenters HALLOWEEN

20-fun-facts-about-john-carpenters-halloween

Today I will conclude my horror film Fun Facts series with the classic John Carpenter film Halloween. I know it seems like the obvious choice since today is Halloween and the film is one of the most iconic horror movies ever made. I'm sure some of you think you know everything about the movie, but there still might just be a few things that you don't know. I thought I knew a lot, but as I did the research I found there were plenty of things about the production of the movie that I had never heard about before. So here are twenty fun facts about John Carpenter's classic horror flick.

  • For years people would tell Carpenter how horrified they were by Michael Myers grotesquely disfigured face, which we get a glimpse of when Laurie pulls his mask off for a brief moment near the end of the movie. What's interesting about this is that all audiences saw was the ordinary face of the actor playing the part. He had a perfectly normal face except for the small knife wound inflicted by Laurie during their struggle in the closet. Carpenter has said that this is evidence of the power of suggestion in cinema, that the audience saw a monster on-screen so assumed that he must look like a monster underneath the mask.
  • Jamie Lee Curtis was so disappointed with her performance on the first day of shooting that she thought she would be fired after the day was over. Carpenter called her that night, and Curtis was certain it was the end of her movie career. Instead, Carpenter congratulated her and told her he was very happy with the way things had gone.
  • A book was written by Curtis Richards prior to the release of the movie that reveals more of the story behind Michael's rage. However, the book is very rare.
  • Carpenter originally wanted Peter Cushing or Christopher Lee to play the Sam Loomis character that was played by Donald Pleasence. Both actors obviously turned him down, and Lee later said it was the biggest mistake he had ever made in his career.
  • Dr. Sam Loomis is Michael Myers' psychiatrist. Sam Loomis is also the name of Janet Leigh's character's secret lover in Psycho.
  • Carpenter "considered the hiring of Curtis as the ultimate tribute to Alfred Hitchcock, who had given her mother, Janet Leigh, legendary status in his film Psycho."
  • Carpenter's intent with the character of Michael Myers was that the audience should never be able to relate to him. Rob Zombie tried to do the exact opposite in his remakes by giving him a white trash background, and it was awful.
  • The movie playing while Laurie is babysitting is the 1951 film The Thing from Another World. What's interesting about this is that Carpenter went on to direct the remake  of the that movie in 1982.
  • One of the most well known facts about this movie is that the filmmakers used a William Shatner Captain Kirk mask for Michael Meyers. What you may not know is that the first mask they wanted to use was a Don Post Emmett Kelly smiling clown mask that they put frizzy red hair on. This was an homage to how he killed his sister Judith in a clown costume. They tested it out and it appeared very demented and creepy. They went with the Shatner mask because it was emotionless, which made it more creepy.
  • Curtis was the only actual teenager while shooting the film. She was paid $8,000 for her work on the film.
  • The original script for the film was called The Babysitter Murders, and the events took place over the course of several days. It was a budgetary decision to change the script to have everything happen on the same day, and they decided they would set it on Halloween, which is the scariest night of the year.
  • When they were shooting the scenes for the start of the film with Michael's point of view, they couldn't get the 6-year old child actor until the last day, so the movie's producer, Debra Hill, volunteered to be Michael for any scenes where his hands come into view. This is why the nails on young Michael's hands look so well manicured and varnished.
  • "The fact that Michael Myers could drive a car despite having been committed to an asylum at the age of six inspired many guffaws. The first movie novelization came up with a simple but effective explanation: when Doctor Loomis drove Michael to sanity hearings over the years, Michael simply watched very closely and carefully as Doctor Loomis operated the car. Remember, even if Michael sat in the back seat and there was a screen of bulletproof glass partition, Michael could still look over the Doctor's shoulder without Loomis realizing the significance."
  • The killer is referred to as "The Shape" in the script and credits for this film. "The word 'shape' was used by Cotton Mather and Nathaniel Hawthorne in reference to the Salem Witch Trials to describe specters (or spirits) of the accused doing mischief or harming another person.'
  • The opening shot seems to be a single, tracking, point of view shot, but in reality there are three cuts. "The first when the mask goes on, and the second and third after the murder has taken place and The Shape is exiting the room. This was done to make the point of view appear to move faster."
  • The Michael Myers character was named after a European distributor for Carpenter's previous film, Assault on Precinct 13. This was considered kind of "thank you" for the movie's overseas success.
  • It was revealed in a 2010 documentary that five different people dressed as The Shape. "Nick Castle (throughout the movie), Tony Moran (during the unmasking by Laurie Strode), stuntman James "Jim" Winburn, production designer Tommy Lee Wallace (due to his knowledge of how much force would be needed to break things during action shots in a single take), and co-writer/co-producer Debra Hill (in the external wide shot when Tommy sees The Shape for the first time). Tony stated that no one told him until he arrived on set that he would be wearing a mask; Debra explained that she happened to bring the costume with her that day and no one else was available for the shot."
  • Michael Myers' full name is mentioned in the final film. In the scene where Dr. Loomis asks to have him moved to a maximum security hospital, the doctors he is speaking to say his full name as, Michael Aubrey Myers
  • Carpenter had a cameo in the movie as the voice of Annie's boyfriend, Paul, who we hear on the phone while talking to Annie.
  • All of the actors wore their own clothes, since there was no money for a costume department. Curtis went to J.C. Penney for Laurie Strode's wardrobe. She spent less than one hundred dollars for the entire set.

Below you'll find the original trailer for the film, along with some deleted scenes. Thanks to IMDb for the info!

Is an All Female Spiderverse Movie Being Developed at Sony?

$

0

We still have yet to see what Sony Pictures plans on doing with Spider-Man. We've heard rumors that the character will possibly be rebooted yet again with Sinister Six as a Dirty Dozen kind of story. We've also heard that Marvel might be in negotiations with the studio to introduce Spider-Man into the Marvel cinematic universe. Who knows what's really going on with Spider-Man at this point other than those who are directly involved with making things happen?

We've got another rumor to add to the pile today that comes from Badass Digest, who is a trusted site, but we will still consider what you are about to read a rumor.

According to the report, the studio is looking to build a new Spiderverse based on an original concept that doesn't come from the comic books. It involves a team-up of several female characters from the Spider-Man universe, and the project is being developed under the name Glass Ceiling.

We heard that Sony has plans for a female Spidey character to get her own movie, but what if the plans were for all the female Spidey characters to come together in one movie? That's the premise of the project they're calling Glass Ceiling (likely not the actual title) - a team-up movie that would bring the female Spidey characters together.

There are no specifics to report, but there are a lot of female characters in the Spider-Man universe that could be used in a project like this. Just a few of those could include Spider-Girl, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Silk, and Firestar.

It seems like Sony Pictures is throwing around all kinds of Spider-Man ideas right now. Marvel has a Spiderverse comic book series event coming out that brings together every iteration of Spider-Man, and I could see something like that being what sparked an idea like this. I'm sure there's some truth to this rumor, and it will be interesting to see if anything comes of it. What do you think about the possibility of an all female Spiderverse movie?

Christopher Nolan May Not Be Done with Superhero Movies Yet

Christopher Nolan won the hearts of fanboys and fangirls everywhere when he directed the Dark Knight trilogy. He also was a producer on Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. When he was finished with those projects though, we weren't sure if he would ever return to the comic book superhero genre again. Especially since he has no involvement with the upcoming slate of DC universe movies that Warner Bros. announced.

During an interview with Time Out, Nolan talked about his experience working in the world  of superheroes, and even though it might be hard for him to come back to it, he's not taking it out of the equation.

"I think I had a great experience with the superhero genre and got to explore a lot of things, but it was a good decade of my life and I find it hard to imagine returning to it. But never say never."

I would love to see Nolan come back and direct another comic book film, but even if he doesn't he's still going to bring epically awesome stories to the big screen. There's several films lined up in the DC universe that he could have his pick of if he wanted. But, wouldn't it be crazy if Marvel was able to harness the power of his talent? I don't think it will ever happen, but like Nolan said… "never say never."

What other superhero besides Batman would you like to see Nolan bring to life?

Channing Tatum's GAMBIT Movie Moves Forward with Writer

20th Century Fox is officially moving forward with Channing Tatum's solo Gambit movie. Tatum is officially on board to star in it, and they've just hired RoboCop remake writer Josh Zetumer to to write the screenplay.

According to Deadline, the story for the film will be based on a treatment that was written by legendary Marvel Comics writer Chris Claremont, who co-created the character in 1990 with comic artist Jim Lee.

As of now, no plot details have been released, but fans have been waiting to see the badass character properly brought to life for the big screen. Taylor Kitsch played the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but I think most X-Men fans would like to pretend that that movie never existed.

I'm happy to see that this movie is moving forward. I've always liked the idea of Tatum playing the character. He's become quite a talented actor over the years and it will be cool to see him portray this Marvel character.

Neil Gaiman Would Love to Write Another Episode of DOCTOR WHO

Neil Gaiman, beloved author of geek classic Sandman, told an audience in New York that he would love to write a third episode of Doctor Who, but he’s just too busy. Gaiman wrote 2011's "The Doctor's Wife" and 2013's "Nightmare in Silver,” which are both landmark episodes of the series. And, apparently, he frequently meets with Doctor Who’s producers, who have left the door open for him to return.

"Whenever I'm in the U.K. ... I sneak into meetings with [the production team]. They say, 'Can you do another one?!' and I say, 'Yes! But not yet!'"

Fans would love to see another Gaiman-penned episode of the show, but he has his own reasons for wanting to return.

"Now I'm just sort of hoping that I can get one done while Peter Capaldi is still the Doctor, because it would be a very sad thing if I lost my chance to write for a grumpy, Scottish Doctor.”

Gaiman even talked a little bit about what he would want his new episode to look like.

"I haven't done an episode set on Earth yet, and I haven't created a new monster. So there are boxes left to tick. And there's part of me that feels … I haven't scared anybody yet. I'd love to do something that sends adults behind the sofa too and makes them wee."

No disrespect to the author, but although he didn’t create any new characters, he did succeed in making the Cybermen scary again in “A Nightmare in Silver,” and that is definitely an accomplishment. I hope his schedule clears up soon, so we can see what else he has in store for the Doctor and his companion.

Trailer for Indie Space Adventure Sci-Fi Movie - THE LAST SCOUT

You've got to check out this trailer for an incredible looking film in development called The Last Scout. This is an independent film directed by Simon Phillips, and he made it on a shoestring budget. He is currently trying to raise funds through Indiegogo so that he can finish the VFX and other post-production work. The movie is a sci-fi space thriller, and from what I've seen in this trailer this looks like it could be an incredibly impressive movie for what they've had to work with to make it.

The story takes place in the year 2065, and earth has been destroyed after a nuclear war between the East and the West. It kind of has the same vibe as Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, as mankind is forced to leave earth to try and survive by finding a new home.

The movie stars Rita Ramnani, Peter Woodward, Simon Phillips, Rebecca Ferdinando, Deji LaRay, Paul Thomas Arnold, Petra Bryant, and Blaine Gray. There's no release date yet, but I hope that the filmmakers are able to finish the project so we can see it!

Here's a charming piece of Disney Star Wars fan art created by Deviant Art artist Luxris. The illustration of Han Solo and Princess Leia was inspired by Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from the movie Tangled. If you look at the "Wanted" posters you'll notice that that they got Han's nose all wrong. That's obviously a little parody of the running gag in Tangled, and how the "Wanted" posters of Flynn never got his nose right.
