Trailer for Rob Riener's THE MAGIC OF BELLE ISLE with Morgan Freeman

Here's a charming trailer to a feel good movie called The Magic of Belle Isle. It's nice to see a well made finspirational movie every now and then. The movie was directed by Rob Riener and stars Morgan Freeman and Virginia Madsen. I'm a fan of the work that both Riener and Freeman have made over the years, and this looks like a solidly good movie worth checking out. These are the kinds of films I watch to make sure I still have a soul.

Here's the Synopsis:

Reuniting with his director from the hit film, The Bucket List, Morgan Freeman plays Monte Wildhorn, a famous Western novelist whose struggle with alcoholism has sapped his passion for writing. He takes a lakeside cabin for the summer in picturesque Belle Isle, and befriends the family next door--an attractive single mom (Virginia Madsen) and her young daughters--who help him find inspiration again.

The movie comes out on Juy 6th, 2012. Watch the trailer below and let us know if it's something you'll be seeing!

International Teaser Poster for Tarantino's DJANGO UNCHAINED

Here's our first look at some poster art for Quntin Tarantino's new movie Django Unchained. The poster comes from the twitter feed of Sony Pictures Spanish division. I love the minimalist design, and it awesomely conveys that classic spaghetti western tone.

As a fan of Tarantino I can't wait to see what he's got in store for us with this movie. It sounds like it's going to be pretty amazing. The story follows the character Django (Jamie Fox), a freed slave, who, under the protection and care of a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) becomes a hardcore bounty hunter himself, and after assisting Waltz in taking down some villains for profit, Waltz's character helps him track down his slave wife and liberate her from a villainous plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio). One of the thing's I'm looking forward to most about this movie is DiCaprio playing a bad guy, I think he's going to be awesome as one.

Django Unchained also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Sacha Baron Cohen, Gerald McRaney, Dennis Christopher, Kurt Russell, Laura Cayouette, M.C. Gainey, Don Johnson, Kerry Washington, Anthony LaPaglia, RZA, Tom Wopat, James Remar, James Russo and Todd Allen.

It's set to be released December 25th, 2012. What are you looking forward to seeing most in this movie? What do you think of the poster design?

We have an updated English poster for the film now...

First Look at SERENA, Starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper

I must admit: I've never heard of Serena until five minutes ago. But the combination of Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence has me intrigued, and the fact that the film is directed by Oscar winner Susanne Bier doesn't hurt, either.

The story, based on Ron Rash's critically-acclaimed novel, sounds fascinating; apparently, this is yet another film that will allow Lawrence to play a strong female character after her work in Winter's Bone and The Hunger Games. The first look photo above and the synopsis below both come courtesy of ComingSoon:

The film follows newlyweds George (Cooper) and Serena Pemberton (Lawrence) who travel from Boston to the mountains of North Carolina where they begin to build a timber empire in 1929. Serena soon shows herself to be the equal of any man: overseeing crews, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving a man's life in the wilderness. Together, this king and queen rule their dominion, killing or vanquishing all who stand in the way of their ambitions. But when Serena learns that she can never bear a child, she sets out to murder the woman who bore George a son before his marriage. And when she starts to suspect that George is protecting his illegitimate family, the Pembertons' intense, passionate marriage begins to unravel as the story moves toward its shocking reckoning.

Sounds pretty great to me, and with a solid supporting cast including Toby Jones (Captain America) and Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man), Serena is definitely one to keep an eye on in the coming months. Production just began, and a 2013 release date is expected.

THE HULK Graces the Cover of Muscle and Fitness Magazine

Next week Muscle & Fitness Magazine will be releasing a special Avengers themed issue, and as you can see they appropriately gave the cover to Mark Ruffalo's Hulk. The issue will break down all of the workouts that the actors went through to get in shape for their roles. I think this is the first image I've seen of the Hulk where he has hair on his chest.

The only movie workout that I tried was the one that the actors of Zack Snyder's 300 went through. I followed it for over a year and was in the best shape of my life. I doubt The Avengers was as hardcore as that. Have you ever been motivated to go workout because of a movie you saw?

Joss Whedon Answers Reddit Questions, Talks DR. HORRIBLE Sequel, FIREFLY, and More

Joss Whedon has got quite the week ahead of him. The world premiere of The Avengers is Wednesday, April 11th, and he also co-wrote and produced Drew Goddard's fantastic new horror film The Cabin in the Woods, which is out this Friday the 13th. (It's awesome - go see it!) The filmmaker recently took some time out of his busy schedule to talk to fans during an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, and The Hollywood Reporter took the time to pull out some highlights of the conversation that we'll feature for you guys below. For the full session, click here.

The director spoke about his highly anticipated follow-up to Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog, offering up some details about when they plan on filming:

We're not shooting right now, we're still in the early stages of writing. But we hope to make a great deal of progress this summer. And you can expect the death of someone you love...

And as for Firefly, his cult classic sci-fi western, Whedon was less than hopeful about the possibility of bringing the series back to life - mainly because the stars of that show have moved on to other things:

Step 2: Cancel Castle. Step 3: Cancel Homeland. Step 4: Generally destroy everybody's careers. Step 5: Avoid Step 2.

He also seemed to be a little disappointed at being labeled "the guy who kills people," even though many of his main characters are killed off in his various TV shows and movies. He was asked who was the hardest to kill:

I actually find it refreshing... delightful.... vaguely arousing....

Actually, I'm, no offense, very tired of being labelled as "the guy who kills people". Shakespeare (he's this hot new writer) does it way more than me, and everyone's all excited about how he, as it were, holds a mirror up to nature, while I'm like the Jason Voorhees of the writing community. Unfair.

Also, probably Buffy's Mom.

Whedon has dipped into musical territory before, helming an episode of "Glee" that starred Neil Patrick Harris a few years ago. Would he ever consider doing a full-scale musical?:

Full scale musical? The biggest non-spaceship-involving dream of my life. But it's a huge life commitment...

He's also built a career on a unique screenwriting voice and crafting memorable characters with great dialogue. But who were his favorite to write?:

Favorite characters? Jeez. Spike, Andrew, Illyria, River, Captain Hammer, Loki, the Cheese Man... hell, I love them all, or I wouldn't write them. But I tend to the left of center.

The hardest was always Angel. How to make a decent, handsome, stalwart hero interesting -- tough. Angelus, on the other hand..

Were there any questions in the session that you would have liked answered? What's your favorite Joss Whedon property?

PIRANHA 3DD - 7 New Images

Dimension Films has released seven new images for the John Gulager directed horror thriller Piranha 3DD. This sequel looks like it will be a bit more over-the-top than the first movie. I thought the first film kind of took itself too seriously for what it was. I was expecting something a bit more silly, this looks like it might be a bit more entertaining. To watch the fun red-bad trailer for the film check it out here

The movie stars Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, Clu Gulager, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, and Paul Scheer.

Here's the Synopsis:

Having awoken from their spring break extravaganza at Lake Victoria, the swarm heads upstream where they look to make a meal out of Big Wet, a local water park where when it comes to fun, nobody does it wetter! Thought they came to get wet, get loaded and get some, the staff and patrons get more than they bargained for when they must face the fiercest, most bloodthirsty piranhas yet. Lead by the strong-willed, studious Maddy and her friends, Barry and Kyle, the trio must dive in and take on these man-eating creatures using every ounce of their being...but can they be stopped?

Did you like the first movie, and are you looking for ward to watching the bloody sequel?

New Poster for Andrew Niccol's THE HOST Continues Focusing on Saoirse Ronan's Eye

$

I doubt fans of Andrew Niccol (Gattica, In Time) would ever have expected him to team up with the writer of the "Twilight" novels, but that's exactly what's happened. The acclaimed director and writer of The Truman Show is directing the big screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's science fiction novel, The Host. MTV has a first look at the new poster (above), which - as you can clearly see - continues their marketing trend of focusing on Saoirse Ronan's eye.

For those of you just joining us, The Host is about an alien parasite that takes over the body of Melanie (Ronan) who is torn between loyalty to its own race and the feelings its host has for the humans around her.

Niccol has done some truly fantastic things behind the camera, but I was very surprised when he announced he'd be writing and directing this film. Anybody plan on checking out The Host in theaters, or does the "Twilight" connection throw you off?

The Interesting Story Behind the ANCHORMAN Sequel

$

Anchorman 2 was technically never supposed to happen. Director Adam McKay and Will Ferrell were pushing for a sequel to happen for years, but Paramount Pictures just kept telling them no. The fact that the movie got the green light shocked the hell out Mckay and Ferrell! They weren't expecting it, three months ago the prospect of it was dead in the water, yet here it is prepping up for production. Mckay goes into detail on how this dead project was brought to life in a recent interview with THR,

Everyone said no, it was dead, a long road to get it made. And then finally Old School hit and, boom, DreamWorks was like, “We want to make it now.” We came in, and Goodman was our day-to-day guy on it. That movie was one of the funnest movies we’ve ever made, and he had a great time and got to see our process. And then the movie came out and did really good but then got even bigger on DVD and cable. So then, when he was at Paramount, he said to me, “Would you ever do a sequel?” And at first we were like, “No, we don’t want to do sequels, we have too many ideas. Why do sequels?” And then finally, we kept hearing the question so much from fans, and we’re like, Shit, man, there’s almost something original about doing a sequel, like, can-we-do-a-sequel suddenly became an interesting challenge to us. We got our heads around on it and said, “All right, we’ll do it,” and Goodman was really excited. But then it went in the numbers machine over there. And their numbers machine purely looked at the box office. It didn’t project off of DVD sales and TV and cultural influence. It stopped at the box office.

Obviously the main issue for Paramount with making the sequel was money. The original film was made for about $26 million dollars and brought in $90 million world wide. That's not really a blockbuster kind of movie that warrants a sequel. To make the sequel Paramount set a budget of $35 million which seemed impossible to do. McKay explains why,

They kept saying, “We’ll give you $35 million.” And we’re like, “Wait a minute, if we do it for that, we’re literally not getting paid!” And they weren’t doing back end… I said, “Look, we want to do it, we don’t need to get rich off of it, but you’ve got to give us something!”

Originally, I was saying, ‘Hey, $80 million budget because it’ll be period, and you gotta pay the stars,’ and they were, like, ‘Are you crazy?’ And then quickly I was, like: ‘All right, fine, $60 million, and we can make it work. We’ll all take pay cuts,’ and they were still, like, ‘Are you out of your mind?’

Basically the careers of the actors in the film blew up since 2004 and became big box office draws. Stars such as Ferrell, Steve Carell and Paul Rudd. There was no way $35 million would cover their salaries. So how did everything work out the way it did? Basically a project Paramount was working on fell through and they need to fill the gap with something... why not that sequel to Anchorman?

Two things happened. We tried to set this other movie up for Will and Vince [Vaughn] that ended up being, once again, a crazy low offer, no back end, at Paramount, and that didn’t happen. And then the other thing that happened was I did some work on The Dictator for Sacha [Baron Cohen], kind of helping out. And I think the combination of those two things with a movie falling through, I think they saw the numbers on the other one and were like, “Wait a minute, if we’re looking at these numbers for an original Will/Vince one, and we have this other franchise that’s guaranteed to at least get you to here, why wouldn’t we do this for just a little bit more?” I think some of the numbers suddenly started rubbing against each other. And I think the other thing was, I suddenly was working with them again as a writer and as a little bit of a producer/director. They started looking at The Dictator and having fun working with me on that, and I think all three things kind of perfect stormed into, You know what? Let’s do this.

They ended up getting a budget of $50 million that they would be able to work with.

It was perfect. We wanted $60 million, they were saying $35 million, $50 million we can get it done for. We came up with a — we’re not going to get rich — but a fair little back end sweetener on it.

Everyone in the original film is coming back for the sequel, because they all had so much fun with the orignal. As of right now they're in negotiations working on closing the deals with all of the actors. The next step is to write the script which they will be starting next week. They have the concept and ideas, they just need to get it in script form. He even talked about the tone of the film and Christina Applegate's character,

Yeah, kind of in the Austin Powers tradition, they always flip out the lead lady. No, we haven’t written it yet, but we have an idea for her that we think is pretty cool. So tentatively right now she’s in. But obviously we kind of have to let it be what it’s gonna be, we don’t want to handcuff ourselves, but we love Applegate, so any chance to work with her is always fun. So, yeah, that’s it. The last couple weeks we’ve been sitting down and banging out the story and putting it together.

We have a basic idea. I’ll tell you we’re staying roughly period, and I would just say it’s the next stage in the development of American media and news. The fun of these characters is they confront change very poorly. [laughs] So they’ve got some more change coming their way. I can say that pretty safely.

As for any cameos in the film they definitely plan on packing them in,

I would guess there’ll be some other cameos happening in this. That’s always the trick with the sequels, is how much do you repeat from the first one. Because we all get bummed out when you go see a sequel and it’s beat for beat. And you’re like, Awww… And the spirit of the first one was such a three-chord garage band kind of spirit. The funny thing is we re-watched it for the first time in four or five years the other day. I had seen pieces of it on TV. But Will and I actually sat and watched the whole movie. When it was over with, we were like, “We’ve gotten a lot better than that!” [laughs]

I enjoyed the first Anchorman film and there's no doubt it will be a blast to see all of these characters back up on screen again doing their comedy thing. The question is will it end up being better and more funny than the original? I sure hope so, I imagine that's what they're going for.

Are you excited about Anchorman 2?

Warner Bros. Passes on Mel Gibson's JUDAH MACCABEE Script

$

Last year it was announced that Mel Gibson would be developing a movie based on Jewish warrior Judah Maccabee with screenwriter Joe Eszterhas (Footloose, Basic Instinct). This was pretty shocking to a lot of people, because of his past issues with the Jewish community. For those of you who aren't familiar, Maccabee was a warrior who teamed with his father and four brothers to lead the Jewish revolt against the Greek-Syrian armies that had conquered Judea in the second century B.C.

The script was completed and turned into executives at Warner Bros. who apparently didn't really care for it. According to Deadline The studio hasn't completely rejected the script, but they're trying to figure out what exactly they want to do with it. I don't think it will happen. Hell, it may not have happened had the script been good. There's just so much controversy surrounding the actor/director that there's a lot of people and studios who don't want to work with him. If they do end up passing on it I don't think the project will die. Gibson has the means to make the movie himself. If he really wants to make the movie then he might end up funding the whole project himself like he did with Passion of the Christ

This seems to have been a passion project for the director so if he feels he can turn it into a success I'm sure he'll find a way to get it made. Regardless of Gibson's issues, I think he's a very talented director, who has a very unique eye at bringing these old world stories to life on the big screen. I wouldn't mind seeing this movie get made, but I'd rather see the Viking film he was planning get made more.

Would you like to see Gibson make this movie? Or any other movie for that matter?

SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH getting a Superhero Movie Makeover

Sony Pictures is bringing Sabrina the Teenage Witch to the big screen, and here's the twist... they are turning her into a superhero. According to the report it will be a live action film, and it will the "origin story in the vein of Spider-Man, about a young girl coming to terms with her remarkable powers." The new adaptation will have an edgier tone, but it will still include her talking black cat Salem, who's a "transformed prince creating unique love stories for Sabrina."

Sabrina originated back in the 1960's in the Archie comics, and eventually became a animated series. But, most of you will probably remember the character from the 1999 Melissa Joan Hart TV series that ran for seven years. I'm not a big fan of the character so I could care less about what the studio does with her. This is a priority project for the studio, and they are on the hunt for a young actress to take on the lead role.

What do you think about what Sony is doing with Sabrina the Teenage Witch? Is this something you'd be interested in seeing?

Thanks to the upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly we have six new images to show you for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. The photos include images of Batman/Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale), Catwoman/Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway), Bane (Tom Hardy), Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman) and John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). It looks like Batman got an iPad of his own.

I think the one thing I'm most interested in finding out about this movie is who the character John Blake actually turns out to be. His character is the one who's been most shrouded in mystery. Do you think there's more to his character than what we've been told?

Here's the synopsis:

Last night Marvel and Disney held the world premiere of Joss Whedon's The Avengers. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it out, and I'm incredibly bummed out about that because there's no doubt it was an awesome experience. One of our writers Ben P. attended the premiere though, and here's what he had to say in a tweet after he saw the movie...

THE AVENGERS was fantastic. Whedon crushed it, guys. It’s everything you’re hoping for.

Here's some more Twitter reactions from some celebrities and other movie bloggers around the web. Read them over and let us know if it gets you even more pumped up for the movie.

First Look at the Munsters House in MOCKINGBIRD LANE

Here's our first look at the house of 1313 Mockingbird Lane in the upcoming new “imaginative reinvention” of The Munsters which will be called Mockingbirg Lane, and have a small resemblance to the classic ’60s show.

The series is being developed by Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller and filmmaker Bryan Singer. The look of the new series is going to be a bit edgier with a slightly darker take exploring origins of Herman and Lily Munster, and how they arrived at the famed 1313 Mockingbird Lane address.

Here's a few things Fuller had to say about the series in a recent interview with EW that you might be interested in reading,

We want this show to be an American Harry Potter. To have that sense of a magical world that you get to go to with your family and find stories told in a fantastical way that are instantly relatable. It’s an American Horror Story that the whole family can watch.

He went one to discuss the title change saying,

The script is such a dramatic departure from the tone and style of the original show. If we continued to call the show The Munsters, people are just going to to think we’re doing The Munsters. We’re doing a reinvention and re-imagination of this property. I love the Universal monsters. I love the Creature from the Black LagoonThe Invisible ManThe Wolfman,Phantom of the OperaThe Mummy. There’s so many great characters we can run through this metaphor of family storytelling that it just felt it was ripe to do as a one-hour dramedy. Having all those elements to play with, the toy box is really really full.

He talks about other monsters being added to the show,

Absolutely. There’s some great stories going forward in the series. Any story you can tell onParenthood we can run through a Universal monster prism and tell it in a very twisted off-kilter way. What I love about the pilot story is it’s about a family who loves each other and they have a child [Eddie, the werewolf] with a disability and they’re trying to craft a path for that child so he can have a happy life — they just happen to be monsters. And, unlike in the original, we’re going to see our monsters do monstrous things.

Fuller is asked about the costumes of the series, and here's what he says about them,

We’re not doing bolts in the neck and Bela Lugosi. It’s almost the Real Housewives of Transylvania. These are a blinged-out representation of what monsters would be doing if they lived in our society today. How they would look, how they would interact. Our wardrobe is heavily influenced by Alexander McQueen and his use of animal textures. For instance, with [the vampire] Lily, all of her wardrobe comes from nature. The first time we see her this nest of spiders weaves her dress on her body as she’s standing there. We’ll see ravens come in and assemble her blouse out of their feathers. We won’t see animal skins because the animals are donating as opposed to dying for it. She has domain over nature and nature has a fantastic esthetic.

This sounds like it will be an entertaining series to watch. I've enjoyed most of Fuller's TV series like Pushing Daisies and Dead Like Me. I like what he's saying about his vision for this series, and it will be fun to see it come to life. What do you think about what Fuller had to say about what he's doing with the series?

Will Ferrell and Mark Whalberg's Football Comedy gets Writer and Director

Last year is was announced that Will Ferrell and Mark Whalberg would star in a comedy based around the sport of Turkey Bowl football called 3 Mississippi. The movie was previously called Turkey Bowl. That film has now landed a the writing and directing team of Sean Anders and John Morris who are currently in negotiations to re-write the project. The is the same team that brought us films such as Hot Tub Time Machine, She’s Out of My League and Mr. Popper’s Penguins. It was originally scripted by by 30 Rock executive producer Robert Carlock and Friends veteran Scott Silveri.

The movie tells the story of the feud between two families over an annual Thanksgiving touch football game that has existed for 50 years. Producer Adam McKay gave a more detailed synopsis in a previous interview saying,

It’s about these two rival families from — we’re thinking Philadelphia but we need to check in with Wahlberg and Ferrell and see what kind of accents they want to do. [Laughs] Alec Baldwin is the patriarch of one of the families, and Wahlberg is his son. He saw the Kennedys playing football on their front lawn at Thanksgiving, and boom, that’s it: “Anything the Kennedys do, we’re doing.” His family starts playing the other family that lives across the park from them. Over the years, Baldwin’s family hasn’t done too well — they own a crappy little bar in town — while the other family, which Will’s character eventually becomes the patriarch of, becomes really successful. The game gets nastier and nastier as the years go on, and Ferrell’s family starts just destroying the other family. After a massive heart attack, Baldwin’s character’s dying wish is that his estranged son, Mark, take over the game and finally win one. So Wahlberg has to put this ramshackle, convict, gambling-addict family back together again and beat the richies. The whole spirit of it is that it’s just a giant, fun ensemble comedy. We want to populate it with people we love. There’s a funny subplot with Rob Riggle where he’s a gay cousin that Wahlberg’s family sort of turned their backs on but he played football at Fresno State and they need him. We’re going to try to get Jeremy Renner to play an ex-con. The idea is to bring in, like, 15 people that we love in and just do a big, funny holiday movie.

The idea behind this film has a ton of hilarious possibilities, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with. I play in a Turkey Bowl with friends every year, and I think it's a great setting to base a comedy around. The studio is hoping to start production in September.

Do you think this could turn out to be a solidly funny comedy?

Zack Snyder's MAN OF STEEL to have Edgy DARK KNIGHT Feel

I think it's safe to say that from the very beginning we knew the new Superman movie that Zack Snyder is directing was going to have a darker tone and edgier feel. The studio saw it work for Batman, so why not do the same thing for Superman?

Actor Dylan Sprayberry, who plays a young teenage Clark Kent in the film, has completed shooting his scenes in Illinois and British Columbia. Here's what he had to say about the movie in a recent interview when he was asked what people will love about the film...

When Zack [Snyder] and I were talking about it the first time, he was saying how Superman, they want to give it a more edgy feel like The Dark Knight but also make it more realistic and emotional so it's not just the all-American superhero that saves everyone. He has dilemmas and love and struggles throughout the whole movie, especially when he's a kid.

I have faith that Snyder's Man of Steel is going to give us a badass version of Superman that we'll all enjoy seeing. This faith is strengthened by the fact that Christopher Nolan help develop the story. I'm very excited to see what they are creating for us!

The movie also stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Russell Crowe, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix, Laurence Fishburne and Richard Schiff.

The film will fly into theaters on June 14th, 2013. Do you think the team of Nolan and Snyder will give us the Superman movie we've all been waiting for?

DISTRICT 9 Star Sharlto Copley Offered Villain Role in OLDBOY

District 9 and A-Team star Sharlto Copley has awesomely been offered the role of the villain in Spike Lee's remake of Chan-wook Park's South Korean revenge thriller Oldboy, which was based on a comic.

This is a role that actors Clive Owen, Christian Bale, and Colin Firth we're considering taking, but it looks like it will finally land with Copley in the role of the mysterious billionaire who's out to destroy the life of a man that wronged him. If he ends up taking it, which I'm sure he will, he'll join the previously cast Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen in the two other lead roles.

Brolin plays a man who's kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years for reasons unknown to him. When he is released from the hellish prison, he sets out on a journey to find out who imprisoned him and why. Olsen plays a caseworker who helps Brolin investigate his past.

This is a hard remake for me to wrap my brain around. I love the story and the original film. I don't see the reason for the remake, but I want to see it. It's got a great cast, and I'm interested to see another persons vision of the story on the big screen; even though I don't see it being better than the original. Basically curiosity is getting the better of me.

What do you think about Copley possibly taking on the villainous role in the film?
