Daniel Radcliffe to Play Michael Caine's Son in NOW YOU SEE ME 2

0

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is set to star in the magician heist film Now You See Me 2. The news come from Michael Caine, who reveals in an interview with HeyUGuys that Radcliffe will be playing his son in the story.

"There's a sequel to Now You See Me and we're shooting in London. I shoot in December, the whole of December in London, and my son is Harry Potter. I thought it'd be funny, me and Daniel Radcliffe as father and son."

That's pretty cool that these two talented actors will be playing father and son. I'm sure they'll make a great on-screen team. I liked the first movie, even though it was utterly ridiculous, I thought it was entertaining. I'm also just a sucker for magic, heist movies, and Isla Fisher

Jon M. Chu is set to direct the sequel, which also sees the return of Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Morgan Freeman, and Fisher.

The first movie followed a team of illusionists that go by the name, The Four Horsemen, who pull off a series of daring magical heists against corrupt business owners during their stage performances.

The sequel is set to be released on June 10th, 2016, and I'm looking forward to it. I wonder if Radcliffe will use any of his Harry Potter magic skills in the movie.

First Teaser for Pixar's INSIDE OUT Is Emotion-filled and Charming

0
0

I've been intrigued by Pixar's next movie, Inside Out, since I first heard about it, and excited about it since some of the GeekTyrant gang saw some very rough footage and storyboards at D23 last year. Now everyone can finally see how awesome it is going to be in this new teaser that is about 50% clips from previous Pixar movies. Inside Out is set inside the mind of an 11-year-old girl, and the main characters are her emotions — Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust — so the trailer begins by reminding us of all the times Pixar has made us feel those emotions ourselves. It is so great, but the first time you watch, you are going to get to the point where you think it is entirely made up of old clips and you aren’t going to see anything new. I want to assure you that eventually it will introduce the characters and show a tiny bit of footage. What small amount we see is pretty charming, and I am officially super-stoked for this movie. It is such an inventive concept, and an 11-year-old girl's emotions are going to provide plenty of plot.

Here is the official synopsis:

From the tepuis of South America to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In 2015, he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all – inside the mind of an 11-year-old named Riley.
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith).
The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

The “major emotion picture” (adorable!) will be in theaters on June 19, 2015, accompanied by the short “Lava,” which you can peek at here.

20 Fun Facts about A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET

0

a_nightmare_on_elm_street___retro_vector_wallpaper_by_elclon-d598b3f.png

A Nightmare on Elm Street was such a fun and entertaining horror movie. The amazing concept of a monstrous character who haunts and kills teenagers in their dreams has scared audiences for years! I don't know why, but this is a movie that never really scared me, even though I saw it at such a young age. I might have been 9 or 10 when I first saw it, and I thought it was the coolest horror flick ever. It holds a special place in my heart. This is one of the horror movies that I enjoy revisiting during the Halloween season, and I've put together a list of 20 fun facts about the movie that you might not know.

  • The first time Robert Englund put on the iconic Freddy glove, he cut himself.
  • Johnny Depp went with his friend Jackie Earle Haley who was auditioning for the film. Depp was spotted by director Wes Craven, and he asked Depp if he would like to read for a role. Depp did and he landed the part. I wonder if that put a kink in Depp and Haley's relationship. It's ok though because Haley went on to play Freddy in the remake 26 years later.
  • The movie's success saved New Line Cinema from bankruptcy, and that's how the studio got the nickname "the house that Freddy built".
  • The film was shot in 30 days.
  • Over 500 gallons of fake blood was used during the making of the feature. Most of it was probably used in Depp's epic death scene!
  • Craven is the guy who came up with the idea of the glove. He wanted the character to have a unique killing tool, but also wanted something that could be made on the cheap, and wouldn't be hard for the character to carry around. The director was studying primal fears embedded in the subconscious of people of all cultures and discovered that one of those fears was being attacked by animal claws. Apparently around the same time, he saw his cat unsheathe its claws, and the two concepts merged.
  • In the original script, the blades on the gloves were fishing knives, but they ended up being stake knives in the finished film.
  • Wes Craven first came up with the basic idea for the movie from several newspaper articles printed in the LA Times over a three year period. They were about "a group of Cambodian refugees from the Hmong tribe, several of whom died in the throes of horrific nightmares. The group had come to America to escape the reign of Pol Pot, and within a year of arriving, three men had died, with the situation the same in each cases; the young, otherwise healthy, man would have a nightmare, then refuse to sleep for as long as possible. Upon finally falling asleep from exhaustion, the man awoke screaming, then died. Autopsy results revealed that they had not died because of heart failure, they had simply died. It was this lack of cause which intrigued Craven so much. Medical authorities have since called the phenomenon Asian Death Syndrome, a variant of Sudden Unexpected Death Syndrome (SUDS) and Brugada Syndrome."
  • The movie playing on Nancy's TV when she falls asleep in her bedroom is Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead.
  • Jennifer Grey, Demi Moore, Courteney Cox, and Tracey Gold all auditioned for the role of Nancy in the film before it was given to Heather Langenkamp.
  • The very first time we are introduced to Freddy in the first scene, he's not being played by Englund. Instead he's being played by special-effects artist Charles Belardinelli, because he was the only one who knew exactly how to cut the glove and insert the blades.
  • Freddy Krueger has under 7 minutes of screen time.
  • In the original draft of the script, Freddy was a child molester. It was changed into him being a child murderer to avoid accusations of exploiting a series of child molestations in California during the time of production.
  • Langenkamp spent 12 hours in the bath while filming the the scene in which she's attacked by Freddy.
  • Englund said that he based the physicality of Freddy on Klaus Kinski's performance in Werner Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre. The actor also says that in his mind, the back-story for Freddy was based on a childhood experience. Apparently Englund went to elementary school with a boy who didn't get any Valentines Day cards from any of the other kids on Valentines day. He theorized that this boy went on to become Freddy.
  • Charlie Sheen, John Cusack, Brad Pitt, Kiefer Sutherland, Nicolas Cage and C. Thomas Howell were considered for the role of Glen.
  • The sparking glove effect was achieved by attaching the glove to a car battery. These days they'd just use digital effects. As for the famous scraping noise, it was created by scratching a steak knife on the underside of a metal chair.
  • According to Langenkamp, the melting staircase scene was shot using pancake mix. But according to Craven, it was oatmeal and glue. The fact track on the DVD says that it was Bisquick. So two out of three says it's pancake mix… lets go with that. It sounds more effective and cheaper than oatmeal and glue. Craven didn't even direct that scene. It was actually directed by Robert Shaye, who was a producer on the film.
  • There's an omen given when Depp's character is about to die. It occurs as he is laying in bed listening to his radio. The broadcaster announces, "It's midnight and you're listening to station KRGR." KRGR is "Krueger" without the vowels.
  • The movie ended on a happy note in the original script. "Nancy kills Krueger by ceasing to believe in him, then awakes to discover that everything that happened in the movie was an elongated nightmare. She then says goodbye to her mother and drives to school with her friends. However, producer Robert Shaye wanted a twist ending which would leave the way open for sequels. He suggested fooling the audience into thinking Krueger has been defeated, only to reveal that the final scene itself is actually a nightmare, and then end the film with Freddy driving the car away from the house and the kids screaming. Wes Craven hated this ending, and ultimately four endings were filmed; Craven's happy ending, Shaye's 'Freddy ending', and two versions of a compromise ending Craven and Shaye had reached in which Nancy's mother is pulled back into the house, but it is left slightly ambiguous as to what is going on. Craven has always maintained that the film should have had the happy ending he originally wrote."

I've also included ten minutes of deleted scenes from the movie for you to watch below:

I AM LEGEND Is Getting Rebooted

i-am-legend-is-getting-rebooted

Warner Bros. has been trying to figure out a way to get a sequel for I Am Legend off the ground for years. Well, they've finally given up on that sequel and they are looking to just reboot the damn thing.

The news comes from Deadline, who says that the franchise reboot will not include Will Smith. The actor doesn't seem very interested in doing any sequels these days anyway. He's been dodging that Independence Day sequel for years.

The studio is basically taking an already existing spec script that they acquired earlier this year called A Garden At The End Of The World, and changing it up to fit the I Am Legend story. The script was written by Gary Graham, who worked at the Apple store in midtown Manhattan before his script was picked up.

The original script is described as "a sci-fi version of John Wayne’s The Searchers." The studio executives and producers felt that there were enough similarities to the themes and mythology of I Am Legend in the script that they asked Graham to redraft the script so that it would fit the franchise.

That's too bad. I would have much rather seen a movie made based on the original script than have it changed to fit a property that they want to reboot.

8 New Photos from THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - PART 1

Lionsgate has released eight new images from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1. They feature various cast members starting off into space. Each Hunger Games movie looks better than the last. Mockingjay was my least favorite book of the series, and I'm hoping the movie cleans up some of my issues with the book.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 launches its offensive on November 21st (USA).

We have a stunning fan made Sith Lord character design to share with you today. It's an original design that was created by Simon Fetscher. It has nothing to do with Star Wars: Episode VII, and this is what the artist said about it:

"Had a painting-day together with my buddy Oliver Fetscher the other day. We went back to the things that inspired us when we were kids so I designed this Sith Lord. Really fun!"

Behind the Scenes Featurette for NBC’s CONSTANTINE

“The one guy who can save us, happens to be the last guy you’d ever want to trust.”

NBC has released a “first look” featurette for their supernatural series Constantine. Considering a trailer and clip were released earlier this year, and a special Comic-Con trailer was released not too long after that, this isn’t quite a “first look.” It does, however, take us behind the scenes and features some new footage from the fantastic looking show. It also includes interviews with star Matt Ryan and executive producer David S. Goyer.

Based on the DC Comics series Hellblazer, Constantine is one of four new shows DC Entertainment is currently rolling out. Gotham premiered earlier this month on Fox, and Flash will debut on October 7th on The CW. iZombie was also picked up by The CW and will premiere sometime in 2015. Constantine premieres on NBC October 24th.

Method Studios is one of many special effects studios that worked on helping Marvel and director James Gunn bring Guardians of the Galaxy to life. They've released a visual effects reel highlighting the work they did on the movie, and it's cool to see how all of these elements are combined to form the completed epic images that we saw in the film.

STAR WARS REBELS Already Renewed for a Second Season

star-wars-rebels-already-renewed-for-a-second-season

On the eve of the Season 1 premiere of Star Wars Rebels, Disney and Lucasfilm have announced that the series has been renewed for a second season. Lucasfilm VP of creative development, Kiri Hart, said in a statement:

"We all love making Rebels, so we couldn't be happier that it's moving into a second season. Our fantastic creative team is dreaming up new stories for the crew of the Ghost that will expand their experience of the galaxy and deepen their heroes' journeys. The fan response to the show has been amazing, humbling and inspiring. We're looking forward to the adventure ahead."

I'm excited about this new series. Everything I've seen looks great, and it will be fun to kick back with the kids and watch it. There aren't many shows that I actually enjoy watching with them. Most of the cartoons on TV suck these days.

The series takes place between Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, which spans about two decades. The animated series is set in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.

The crew of the Ghost starship — Jedi Kanan, pilot Hera, street-smart teenager Ezra, the "muscle" Zeb, warrior Sabine and droid Chopper — are only among the few brave enough to stand up against the Empire. They'll face new villains (see: Inquisitor) and adversaries and go on adventures as they become heroes with the ability to ignite a rebellion.

Freddie Prinze Jr., Taylor Gray, Steve Blum, Tiya Sircar, Vanessa Marshall, Jason Isaacs, David Oyelowo and Billy Dee Williams are the voice stars. Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg and Carrie Beck created the Lucasfilm Animation production.Greg Weisman is an executive producer alongside Filoni and Kinberg.

Star Wars Rebels will launch with the one-hour TV movie called Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion, on Friday, October 3rd at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Disney Channel and on Monday, October 6th 6, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Disney XD. The series then continues on Disney XD starting on Monday, October 13th, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

"One of Hitler's U-boats is just sitting on the sea bed, full of gold."

Focus Features has released an intense trailer for a new treasure hunting thriller called Black Sea. The movie stars Jude Law, and was directed by Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland). This flick seriously looks freakin' awesome, and it seems like Law gives a helluva performance.

The story centers on a "rogue submarine captain (Law) who, after being laid off from a salvage company, pulls together a misfit crew to go after a sunken treasure rumored to be lost in the depths of the Black Sea. As greed and desperation take control on board their claustrophobic vessel, the increasing uncertainty of the mission causes the men to turn on each other to fight for their own survival."

The film is set to be released on January 23rd, 2015.

David Fincher Video Essay Explores his Technical Precision

One of the reasons why David Fincher is a favorite director of mine is because his shots are so perfect and concise. He has an incredible way of setting up his shots and shooting them. He simply blows me away with his visual style.

I've got a great Fincher video essay for you to watch that was created by Tony Zhou. What's so awesome about this video is that it focuses on all the things that Fincher doesn't do as a director that makes him stand out above the rest. For example, it points out how the director rarely uses a handheld camera to shoot his scenes, and Se7en is the film that uses it the most with only five shots. It also reveals out how his staging reflects the relationships of his characters. It's a fascinating watch. Here's a description that came along with the video.

For sheer directorial craft, there are few people working today who can match David Fincher. And yet he describes his own process as “not what I do, but what I don’t do.” Join me today in answering the question: What does David Fincher not do?

If you're an aspiring filmmaker, maybe you will learn a couple things from this. We've also recently posted two other video studies of Fincher's work that are both worth checking out as well: "The Fincher Effect" and "The Films of David Fincher."

Johnny Depp's new film Mortdecai looks like an amazingly entertaining movie. If you haven't seen the trailer yet, be sure to check it out here. The movie is based on a series of 1970s novels by Kyril Bonfiglioli, and it seems like a very refreshing character for Depp to play. We've got four new character posters for the film featuring Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, and Olivia Munn, all sporting awesomely silly mustaches.

Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

The David Koepp-directed film also stars Jeff Goldblum, and Paul Bettany. It hits theaters February 6th, 2015.

“Use The Front Door, Luke” - Lightsaber House Keys

An elegant key for a more civilized age.

Over the years, we’ve posted an absurd quantity of Lightsaber themed gadgets and gizmos. Here’s a small sampling:

All of those are fine pieces of Star Wars-themed gear, but most of them aren’t things that you would normally carry on your person. If you want to keep the Jedi weapon of choice on you at all times, this 2 piece red and blue Star Wars inspired Lightsaber key set is the most convenient and "elegant" way to go. They're not as clumsy or random as those keyless entry remotes. So uncivilized.

You can purchase the set for $9.85 on Guitar Shaped Keys. Thanks to Geekologie for the find.

Confirmed: DRACULA UNTOLD Is The First Part in Universal Monster Cineverse

0
0

It seems like every studio is trying to create a connected cinematic universe in the same way Marvel Studios has. This was something Universal Pictures did from the 40s-60s with their monster movies. We previously reported, nearly a year ago, that Universal was planning to reboot their cineverse.

Producer Alissa Phillips, at the UK premier of Dracula Untold, confirmed rumors that it is the first part of the Universal's monster cineverse.

Alissa Phillips via Hey U Guys:

I was really excited to be part of that. When we started out we weren’t [part of the series], but then we found out that they were going to do it.
Working with Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan who are very much a part of creating The Mummy and the other ones…it’s been fun to be a part of that.

I wonder at what point in development this decision was made and if anything in Dracula Untold plants the seeds for the other monsters. Van Helsing had been announced and The Mummy is coming in 2016. There's no word yet on when or what a crossover movie might be right now.

My hope is that these movies stay period and don’t move to modern times. The movies I, Frankenstein and Underworld are modern takes on the classic monsters and have been somewhat mixed in their success.

Thanks to CBM we also have over seven minutes of B-Roll footage. I always find these videos interesting, and they pretty closely replicate what it’s like to be on a film set.

Dracula Untold opens in theaters October 17th (USA)

TERMINATOR: GENISYS Will Tell a Love Story

0
0

Terminator: Genisys is sure to include a ton of action and robot killing machines traveling back in time to assassinate people. But there's another story that the movie will tell, and it sounds like it won't just be another hollow big budget large scale action movie. Apparently, it's also going to involve a deep love story.

The news comes from J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man) who is currently making the press rounds for his new film, Whiplash, which is amazing by the way! He has a role in Terminator: Genisys, and he discussed it a little bit in an interview with Coming Soon

Simmons will be playing an aging, alcoholic detective who has been tracking Sarah Connor for years and has witnessed all of the strange things that have happened to her over the years.

The actor said that he started reading the screenplay expecting your standard "formulaic yadda-yadda-yadda then cut to the stuff blowing up," but he was completely surprised with what it actually ended up being. Here's what he said,

"I found the script to be really much more intelligent and fun and funny and well-rounded and heart-felt. It's a love story. It's a really interesting script…. That was another movie that ended up being really satisfying on all levels. I have a much smaller part in that, but it was really a fun thing to be a part of."

Now, before some of you freak out about this whole love story thing, you've got to remember that at the core of James Cameron's original film we saw a love story about Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese. Of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger was there to cause absolute chaos and kill a ton of people while that story was being told.

The film also stars Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, Jason Clarke as John Connor, Dayo Okeniyi as Danny Dyson, and Schwarzenegger, who returns as T-800. The movie also includes Doctor Who’s Matt Smith and G.I. Joe: Retaliation’s Byung-hun Lee. The film will be released in theaters on July 1st, 2015.

31 Horror Movie Shorts Teased in FUN SIZE HORROR Trailer

31-horror-movie-shorts-teased-in-fun-size-horor-trailer

I have an enjoyable trailer for you to watch today for a set of horror themed shorts called Fun Size Horror.  There are 31 horror films in the anthology, and many of them are teased in this trailer. All the shorts were made by a collection of filmmakers who had to follow two rules: The movie had to be horror themed, and it had to be five minutes or less in length.

The short films were self-financed and produced by the talented individuals who made them. Zeke Pinheiro came up with the concept, and he said,

“It occurred to me that I know all these great filmmakers, who are always wanting to create their own thing and all love horror, but were never given a platform. So I figured, why don’t we pool our skills, equipment and resources, and create a collective with the goal of each of us creating a short film that runs less than five minutes for Halloween.”

How awesome is that! From what I saw in the trailer it looked like they come up with some great little films that audiences will enjoy. Each short will only be up for 24 hours before being replaced by the next so you don't have much time to watch them. The shorts will be distributed across the following five sites: Dread CentralBloody-DisgustingShockTilyYouDrop, Colider, and HitFix. I love seeing this kind of stuff happen.

Trailer for Bradley Cooper and Clint Eastwood's AMERICAN SNIPER

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for director Clint Eastwood's American Sniper, and holy crap! This is going to be an amazing film. Bradley Cooper stars as Chris Kyle, who is known as "the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history." But there's a lot more to his story than just that, and this movie will tell it. This trailer is intense as hell and very unique as it leaves you in complete suspense. I don't recall ever seeing a trailer that left me on the edge of my seat like this. It looks like Eastwood and Cooper have made an amazing movie.

U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle is sent to Iraq with only one mission: to protect his brothers-in-arms. His pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield and, as stories of his courageous exploits spread, he earns the nickname “Legend.” However, his reputation is also growing behind enemy lines, putting a price on his head and making him a prime target of insurgents. He is also facing a different kind of battle on the home front: striving to be a good husband and father from halfway around the world.

Despite the danger, as well as the toll on his family at home, Chris serves through four harrowing tours of duty in Iraq, personifying the SEAL creed to “leave no man behind.” But upon returning to his wife, Taya Renae Kyle (Sienna Miller), and kids, Chris finds that it is the war he can’t leave behind.

The movie also stars Sienna Miller, Jake McDorman, Luke Grimes, Navid Negahban, and Keir O’Donnell. It's set to be released in theaters on January 16th, 2015.

Edgy ALIEN Poster Art by Joao Ruas

Hollywood just doesn't make movies like Alien anymore. I didn't see Ridley Scott's Alien until after I saw James Cameron's Aliens. I was just as blown away by it, though, just in a completely different way. Aliens was more action-oriented, while Alien played out more like a horror movie.

As a tribute to Alien, artist Joao Ruas created this very cool illustration featuring the terrifying Xenomorph that wreaks havoc on the crew of the Nostromo ship. The art is a private commission, and there is a regular and variant edition.
