While the brooding hero archetype was around before Cloud rose to prominence, Final Fantasy VII's main protagonist has since become synonymous with the role. Ironically, he wasn't as much so in the original game, and in fact he even had a pretty decent sense of humor. As time went on, however, he embraced the solemn and slightly guilt ridden identity that we know so well today. Whichever version you prefer, he is one of the most identifiable and popular Final Fantasy characters in the franchise's history, and is more than deserving of the quality cosplay we've collected here. Plus, he's got one of the coolest weapons ever, so that doesn't hurt. Without further ado, here is some of the best Cloud cosplay around.

THE WALKING DEAD Season 5 Key Art Hints at the Story Ahead

$

AMC has released new key art for The Walking Dead's upcoming fifth season, featuring Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes brandishing a weapon in the woods accompanied by the tagline, “Hunt or Be Hunted.” Not much to go on at first glance, but there are some strong hints at what the season will hold. I guess that what follows could be considered spoilers, so don’t keep reading if you don’t want to have what you see on your screen described to you.

First of all, and most obviously, Rick has escaped from the “A” car at Terminus. You can tell because he isn’t locked in a train car. Second of all, he has made his way to the woods behind the compound and reclaimed the weapons he buried — he’s holding his trusty old Colt Python revolver. The last clue is the seemingly innocuous tagline, “Hunt or Be Hunted.” Which is actually a major clue that the people at Terminus are, in fact, the Hunters, the group from the comics who stalk, kill, and eat other survivors. This has been speculated on so much that it was probably already taken as fact, especially considering the piles and piles of human skeletons we saw in the fourth season finale.

So to sum up, Rick has momentarily escaped but is still in danger. That sounds like the show we all know and love. The Walking Dead returns on Sunday, October 12. What do you hope happens this season?

YouTube Elite Can Team Up With Guillermo del Toro and Legendary to Create Horror Movies

$

Guillermo del Toro, in partnership with Legendary, has announced that they will be taking pitches for horror movies from YouTube creators. The requirements to enter are super steep: you need to have a YouTube channel with over 10k subscribers and be a YouTube Partner. This will likely exclude 99% of people who would want to enter. But the quality of submissions should be very high, which is likely what Legendary is looking for. Two elite YouTube filmmakers who I think could dominate his contest are Ryan Connolly of Film Riot and Freddie Wong of Rocket Jump.

Details via Legendary:

YouTube creators will have the opportunity to create original videos on terrifying cinematic sets inspired by Guillermo del Toro at YouTube Spaces in Los Angeles, London,Tokyo and New York, as part of a special global programming event on YouTube.
From September 22 – October 28, 2014, YouTube creators will write, shoot and edit their scariest videos at the YouTube Spaces. As well as appearing on individual creator channels, all content will appear on the YouTube Spaces channel, the official Legendary YouTube channel and promoted through social media platforms. Videos are slated to go live between October 21 and Halloween.
In celebration of his return to horror with the upcoming Crimson Peak, master of ceremonies, Guillermo del Toro, will select his scariest videos to come out of each region and provide a personal rough-cut creative consultation with the creators.
The program’s finale will see Legendary offer one lucky YouTube creator a development deal to realize the full potential of their idea.
The effort is part of YouTube Spaces’ tent-pole programming initiative that furthers the Spaces’ mission to bring together the most creative people in the world around celebrated cultural events

Meet Long Ma, the Fire-Breathing Horse-Dragon

Nuzzle up to Long Ma, and fire-breathing “horse-dragon” kinetic sculpture by François Delarozière and his art group La Machine. The 46-ton, nearly 40 foot tall sculpture has an expressive face, articulating limbs, and fire-breathing capabilities. It is seriously cool. The french artist recently debuted the work in Nantes, France, but it will be shipped to China as a gift commemorating the 50th anniversary of French-Chinese diplomatic relations. I’m going to start my own country and make diplomatic ties to France so that I can get one. I've included some videos so you can see Long Ma in action.

Fan Edit BROTHER OF THOR Puts Loki Center Stage

$

Good hell, Loki has some dedicated fans. It's understandable. He is, thus far, the most interesting villain in the Marvel cinematic universe, and the only one to be a major antagonist in multiple movies (I don’t think Thanos’ post-credits appearance in The Avengers counts as major, so don’t come at me). He is also played by Tom Hiddleston, possibly the most charming man on the planet. He’s definitely in the top ten. Hiddleston has made Loki a highlight of Thor, The Avengers, and Thor: The Dark World. I’d even be willing bet that if you added up all his screen time you could make a full-length movie.

Okay, so that’s a pretty safe bet, because someone did that. I told you, Loki has some dedicated fans. A Vimeo user going by the name Loki Odinson has cut all of Loki’s footage, including deleted scenes, into a 2 hour and 15 minute movie called Loki: Brother of Thor. He even worked in the test footage from Hiddleston’s audition to play Thor, and in a way that actually works. This isn’t just a supercut. Loki Odinson cut the scenes into a narrative with a coherent story arc. This is what he said about the project.

“I created this fan edit just for fun, because I wanted to watch one movie with all of Loki's scenes combined (Thor, Avengers, Thor 2).
“My goal was to chronicle the character development of Loki into a single narrative. You'll notice I took out a lot fluff and even some beloved fight scenes, only because I was trying to focus the film on Loki and his relationships. I also inserted all of the relevant deleted scenes (you'll notice that they haven't been fully rendered and mixed), several of which add great depth to his story and family dynamics. A big challenge was bridging the end of Thor and the beginning of The Avengers, explaining Loki's exile and involvement with the Tesseract *before* he portals to earth. I created a montage to kinda show all that, even pulling a clip from Guardians of the Galaxy.”

This was an intensive (and awesome) project, and I think it’s fair to say, well-done, Loki Odinson.

UPDATED: Warner Bros. Registers Domain Names That Point to Their DC Plans

$

UPDATE: Looks like we're all in a tizzy over nothing. We reported that these registrations were old, but we didn't realize how old. ComicBook.com is reporting that the studio has held WonderWomanTheMovie.com since 1999, while ShazamMovie.com and AquamanMovie.com were picked up in 2001. So it does point to their plans, just their really old, out of date plans. Carry on. Here is our original story:

The geek world is buzzing over news that last year Warner Bros. registered domain names for movies about the Justice League, Wonder Woman, Shazam, and Aquaman. The domain names, which are JusticeLeagueFilm.com, WonderWomanTheMovie.com, ShazamMovie.com, and AquamanMovie.com, all redirect to the studio’s main page.

None of this is exactly groundbreaking news. The studio has claimed a slew of release dates for unannounced movies, we already knew that Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice would introduce various superheroes to lay the groundwork for a Justice League movie, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been not-so-subtly hinting that he is going to star in a Shazam movie for what seems like years. Maybe it’s a little surprising that they seem to be planning an Aquaman movie before they get around to slightly better known heroes like the Flash and Green Lantern (well, it’s not surprising that they aren’t pulling the trigger on a Green Lantern movie), but it’s not as surprising as if they were planning a Martian Manhunter standalone. And it is definitely not surprising that they are moving forward with a Wonder Woman standalone, as fans have been clamoring for one for years.

What other films to you think they’ll add to their slate?

Tigger's Revenge by Dan LuVisi

Dan LuVisi has created a tough, hard knocks Tigger. LuVisi's character rendering looks like a screen cap from a high budget CGI animated movie.

LuVisi also created an story around his art:

Tigger awoke from a dream, his eyes readjusting to the moon-lit motel-room he was staying in. He preferred the dark, as it reminded him of his previous housing in Ashdown's Prison.

“Hey Tig,” said a soft voice. Tigger looked around, only to see a familiar silhouette, outlined by the fluorescent moon. Suddenly a flame erupted from a lighter, illuminating the figure's face: a once beautiful kangaroo.

Kanga smiled, as the flame left with the click of the cap. She put the lighter in her pouch, making her way to the broken tiger as she handled her dangling cigarette . “It's been a while, Tig. You look old. Tired.”

Tigger didn't move, his thoughts a cocktail of sadness and regret. “How'd you find me, K?”

Kanga continued to smoke, puffing it against the blue-lit window. “Owl told me you may need a friend to talk to. And we all know how much he loves to ramble, so I figured I'd come stop by and say hello.”

“You didn't come to say hello, K. Stop playing with me.” Tigger said, his tail slowly shifting back and forth. Kanga noticed, knowing of his uneasy temper.

“I came to ask what you plan to do? Are you...”

“Going to kill him? Yes.” Tigger said, quickly cutting her off.

Kanga's smile faded. “You can't bring him back, Tigger. Christopher is gone.”

Tigger looked away from her, still keeping his focus on the sickly-green painted wall ahead. It was battered, beaten by days of working his infamous tiger-tail on it. Drawn on the wall, a stencil of the monster responsible for his current predicament; The Bear.

“But there is someone you could bring back,” Kanga muttered, her voice cracking from being nervous. “Someone who still has time to grow and learn.”

Tigger raised his head to her, his battered face now more apparent. “What are you asking me?”

Kanga handed him an envelope, written on it: TIG. Holding his old head, Kanga kissed the top of it. “You won't see me for a while, so I'll leave the choice in your hands. I love you Tig,and I hope you can pull yourself together.”

Kanga bounced to the entrance of the motel. Before leaving, she turned once more, looking at an old love who had faded over the years. “Remind these son's of bitches why you're the only one.”

Kanga closed the door behind her—taking what history they had with her. Tigger looked down at the envelope, questioning if he should open it. The anticipation over-swept the best of him, and Tigger quickly tore the top off, revealing a single letter. Tigger opened the note, reading the tear-drop stained goodbye-letter.

After finishing it, Tigger dropped the letter on his table and begans to make his way over to his desk, on it, a folder given to him from Owl. Tigger tore through the folder until suddenly, his eyes caught a faint object out of his peripheral. Something else fell from the envelope. He made his way back over, picking up the item: a folded photograph. On the photo was Tigger, bouncing with ex-wife Kanga, and their child, the young joey named Roo.

Tigger knew at that very moment what kept him alive all those years in prison. Tigger sighed, placing the photo down on the table before making his way over to a manilla dossier given to him by Owl.

He opened the folder, revealing a plethora of information and photos of targets he once called friends: Pooh and his Pals. This information would be the key Tigger needed to help push him towards his only goal. The one he had since he entered the prison five years ago. For it was there that Tigger realized Christopher Robin was gone, and there was no way he could bring him back.

But Tigger would fight through Hell before he allowed Pooh to take his son Roo as well.

I don't know about you, but I would watch this as a movie.

Stan Lee Confirms BLACK PANTHER Movie Plans, James Gunn Talks GUARDIANS 2

At Dragon Con in Atlanta this weekend, director James Gunn put the kibosh on any nascent speculation that Captain Marvel, aka Carole Danvers, might appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. According to Collider, Gunn said that he would be steering clear of “earthlings” and will be keeping the focus on Star-Lord. He does plan to include more female characters from the Guardians side of Marvel comics, hopefully as more than just Peter Quills’ bedmates.

At a separate convention this weekend, Fan Expo Canada in Bermuda (just kidding, it was in Toronto), Stan Lee dropped some major Marvel news when someone asked him about whether Marvel has any plans for a Black Widow movie. CBR quotes him as saying, “The chances are she will have her own movie because eventually all the superheroes are going to have their own movies. They are already working on Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and the Black Panther, and there are others I am not allowed to talk about.” Psst. Stan. I don’t think you were supposed to talk about the Black Panther thing… But since you did, great news!

Let's get the casting rumor mill started. Who do you think should play Black Panther?

Trailer for Beguiling Animated Adventure THE TALE OF THE SEAS

“We're too late. And a storm is coming.”
“That’s not a storm.”

You should watch this trailer for a wonderfully animated feature, The Tale of the Seas. Directed and animated by Yoram Benz from a script by Allen Warner, this is an entirely self-funded passion project. I really love the somber, atmospheric tone, and the fact that it is an animated adventure drama is different and intriguing. The animation style is a refreshing break from the perfectly smooth 3D animation we’ve grown accustomed to, and the story definitely piques my curiosity. Here is the synopsis:

THE TALE OF THE SEAS [is] a coming-of-age fantasy following a mysterious sea creature that washes up on the shores of an isolated fishing village. MERI, the childless wife of fisherman NEREUS, finds the creature and secretly nurses it back to health, but the knowledge of his existence becomes the talk to the town and creates uneasiness among villagers weary of change. The village’s destructive ways pushes their spirit world to a breaking point, and it’s up to two outcasts to steer them away from a path of self destruction.

THE BOY WHO CRIED LITERALLY - Modern Take on The Boy Who Cried Wolf

“Are you familiar with ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’?"

“Yes, I experienced a childhood on the planet Earth.” — Frank Toy, KINGS OF SUMMER

The Boy Who Cried Wolf” is a tale that everyone knows. Aesop's fable about a shepherd boy who falsely cries wolf so often that when real danger comes no one believes him is how most kids first learn that they shouldn’t lie. College Humor has updated the cautionary tale with "The Boy Who Cried Literally," making it less about lying and more about wrong word usage and exaggeration. How I Met Your Mother covered this topic during its run, and while misusing a non-hateful word isn’t as damaging as lying, this video proves just how annoying it can be.

Hot Toys’ Batman Armory from THE DARK KNIGHT

In The Dark Knight, Bruce Wayne has a secret underground lair that stood in for the Batcave while Wayne Manor was being rebuilt. It was a well-lit, rectangular room that was a stark contrast with the more familiar, cavernous and moody Batcave which would be finished in The Dark Knight Rises. The makeshift Batcave wasn’t without its charms, though. It was clean and functional, and Bruce Wayne’s armory housed all the badass Bat gadgets one could ever want. Every piece of that armory is faithfully recreated in Hot Toys’ 1/6 scale version that comes with both Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth.

Summary of Disney's Animated Short Film FEAST

disneys-animated-short-film-feast-is-absurdly-adorable

While I was visiting Disney Animation Studios for the Big Hero 6 press day, they showed the animated short film that would be playing before Big Hero 6 in theaters. The short is called "Feast," and it was absurdly adorable. The movie was directed by Patrick Osborne, who was the head of animation on "Paperman," which was another amazing short film.

The story is officially described as "one man’s love life as seen through the eyes of his best friend and dog, Winston, and revealed bite by bite through the meals they share." Here's a more detailed breakdown of the story that I wrote up after I saw the short.

The story follows the life of a dog named Winston who was picked up off the street when he was just a pup. The guy that took him in lured the dog to his home with food. Throughout the rest of the dog's life we see all the different foods that the dog eats. It's starts off with dog food, then moves on to dog food topped with bacon and eggs, then dog food topped with spaghetti. Eventually, dog food is no longer a part of the meal, and Winston is just eating regular food. As time goes on the man finds a girlfriend and all of a sudden all of the junk food the dog enjoyed eating turns into green healthy food. Winston isn't very happy about that. We see the relationship of the man and woman in the background of the story through the eyes of the dog, and they eventually break up. The dog begins to see something is wrong with the man after the girl leaves, and he's clearly depressed. The dog puts two and two together when he is reminded by the healthy green food. He then takes it upon himself to try to bring the man and woman back together again. The actual human people in the movie aren't even in focus until near the end of the story.

I also really loved the animation style. It was done in the same style as "Paperman," only it's a bit more polished and detailed. You can get a little glimpse of that style in the two stills from the film that were recently released

Until recently I haven't been a fan of dogs. I've had a bad past with dogs that you can read about here. My kids have a dog that has actually warmed up to me, which is really weird. The damn thing seems to really like me, though, and because of that I think "Feast" is the first dog movie that I've really ever been able to connect to in a positive way.

Disney fans are going to love this.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 3 Delayed By a Year

How to Train Your Dragon 3 has been moved from its June 17th, 2016 release date to June 9th, 2017. It's possible that the previous release date that put it head to head with Pixar's Finding Dory and possible script development trouble gave DreamWorks Animation reason enough to move it. Dark Horizons observed that this now puts How To Train Your Dragon 3's opening only two weeks after The Lego Movie sequel.

I really love both How To Train Your Dragon films. They are my favorite DreamWork Animation movie. The sequel really raised the bar, and I hope they will be able to create a strong third film.

Funny Clip from BIG HERO 6 - "On a Scale From 1 to 10"

funny-clip-from-big-hero-6-on-a-scale-from-1-to-10

Disney Animation has released a great clip from their upcoming animated adventure film Big Hero 6. It features a wonderfully amusing moment between the two main characters — Hiro and Baymax — early on in the story. It gives you a great glimpse at some of the fun humor that you will be seeing in the movie, and gives you an even better idea of why audiences are going to love Baymax.

Big Hero 6 is a heartfelt comedy adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, clean freak Wasabi No-Ginger, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a cutting-edge robot named Baymax—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action and all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios.

The film is being directed by Don Hall (Winnie the Pooh) and Chris Williams (Bolt), and it hits theaters in 3D on November 7th, 2014. Enjoy the clip, and stay tuned for more Big Hero 6 details being released later today.

The internet is loaded with tons of great stuff, and here's a little gem that I think some of you will enjoy. It's a few pieces of art that show us what Iron Man's armor might have looked like had it been designed by renaissance artist Leonardo Da Vinci. The illustrations were created by comic artist Axel Medellin for CBR's The Line is Drawn art challenge. There are a lot of beautiful little details in these, and what's great is that it looks exactly like something Da Vinci would have come up with... if he came up with it.

BOONDOCK SAINTS 3 Has a Title and Plot

boondocks-saints-3-has-a-title-and-plot

Regardless of the terrible reviews and poor box office performance, Troy Duffy's 1999 film The Boondock Saints became a cult classic. It was a fun movie that even spawned a sequel called The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day. Unfortunately, the sequel didn't hit the same level of popularity as the first film, mostly because it was an inferior movie. That hasn't stopped hardcore fans from wanting to see a third film, though!

During a fan Q&A on Facebook, the director talked about his plans for a third movie, revealing the title and the plot of the film. The new movie is currently titled The Boondock Saints 3: Legion.

If you watched the sequel, then you already know that it ended with the McManus brothers, played by Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus, in prison. The Boondock Saints 3: Legion will show that while in prison they’ve gained notoriety. He also explained that the story will give us some insight to the McManus brothers’ past and offer a flashback of the very first crime for the criminal killing duo.

The "Legion" part of the title refers to the legions of people who have taken the law into their own hands and become vigilantes just like the now infamous brothers.

Duffy went on to admit that he blames himself for the long delay between the second and third films, saying, “It’s my fault. It’s taken awhile… It’s cause I want to get it right.” I'm sure it will take even longer as there's no shooting or release date in sight.

Reedus and Flanery are expected to return to the franchise, but there's nothing set in stone at this point so anything could happen. Who knows if the movie will ever be made. Are you excited for the possibility of this third Boondock Saints movie?

5 Things I learned About Disney's BIG HERO SIX, Plus 2 New Photos

$

Disney invited me over to their animation studios not too long ago to get an early look at their upcoming animated feature Big Hero 6. While I was there I got to watch about 20 minutes of footage from the film, and I had the opportunity to speak with the directors Don Hall (Winnie the Pooh) and Chris Williams (Bolt), along with several other members of the crew bringing this story to life to the big screen.

The footage I got to see was straight up awesome. This is truly going to be Disney's biggest, most action-packed animated movie to date. I saw a great scene in which the main characters — Hiro and Baymax — aree led to a factory where they find an invention that Hiro developed, called microbots, being mass produced. They're confused about what's going on, and it's in this scene that the villain revealed himself. The villain attacks the two heroes with the microbots, and they end up escaping from the factory. It's a really fun scene, and you get a glimpse of it in the full trailer.

Not only is the movie going to be action-packed, but it has a heartfelt emotional side as well. One scene that they showed us was actually pretty heavy. I really don't want to get into it at this point because it was a pretty big spoiler they showed. It's kind of alluded to in the international trailer, but that trailer doesn't really go into any details of what happened. It happens early on in the film, though, and it kind of throws the whole story into action. It packed quite an emotional punch for everyone that saw it.

I loved everything that they showed us, and it got me even more pumped up for the movie. The stuff they revealed in the trailers has been great, but there's so much to the story. I think Big Hero 6 has the makings of a classic. I even learned a lot more about the movie by talking to the crew of people who are in the process of making it. I've included five things that I learned while talking to these talented individuals that I thought you might find interesting. I also included two new photos from the film for you to check out. The one above features Hiro and Baymax, and the one below features the villain Yokai. I've also included some photos of the press day event.

  • Big Hero 6 is inspired by the Marvel comic, but it has completely been changed. The only things they really took from the comic are the names of the characters, and then they basically built everything else from the ground up. So if you're a fan of the comic and you're looking for a direct adaptation of it, that's not going to happen. In all honesty, the movie looks like it going to be more entertaining than the comic, but each is its own thing. Marvel also recently distanced themselves from the comic, and they have no plans to feature the characters of the film in any upcoming comics projects. None of the characters will be featured as guest stars in the comic universe, and there are no plans to reprint any of the earlier stories that inspired the movie.
  • This is the largest cast of characters in any Disney animated film. The average Disney animated film has two to three main characters, and three to four secondary characters. Big Hero 6 has 15 main characters. They have six team characters, each one with their own unique style of motion. There is also the super form of each characters as well, again with their own layer of specificity. They have to maintain that all of the time. This is one of the main challenges that they had deal with when developing this movie. In the process they developed 701 background characters for the movie, and they had to provide all the animation for those characters.
  • The movie is also the biggest action movie they've ever done, with seven big action sequences throughout the film. They usually only have two or three action scenes. These are also the biggest scale action scenes they've ever done.
  • Baymax is a very simple character, and they came up with him when they came across a medical robot during their research trips. The medical robot was made out of vinyl cloth, which is how they came up the the design. Because the design was so simple they wanted to keep the animation style simple as well. As you've seen in the trailer, all he really has is the two eyes. So they had to figure out various ways to portray his emotions, and thoughts with just those eyes, and also by using his body language. For example, a blink from Baymax could mean a million different things depending on the context that you give the audience. This allows for the audience to engage with Baymax unlike any other character. They are allowed to project onto him what they think he's thinking. The movement pattern that they came up with for Baymax was based on penguins. Their faces are very blank, but they get a lot of character out of their essential movements. It has the simplicity for the robotics, but it also has the cuteness factor going for it. It makes the audience more active participants.
  • There was almost a rocket cat included in the film, but it didn't end up in the final product. Even though it would have been a great character, and everyone loved it, the cat just didn't really fit in with the story.

Here's the synopsis:

With all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Big Hero 6 is an action-packed comedy-adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a robot named Baymax—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action.

The movie will be released in theaters in 3D on November 7th, 2014.
