Denzel Washington's THE EQUALIZER Has a New Trailer and Poster

denzel-washingtons-the-equalizer-has-a-new-trailer-and-poster

Columbia Pictures has released a great new online trailer and poster for director Antoine Fuqua's action drama The Equalizer. The trailer features new footage from the film along with Eminem's new single with Sia, "Guts Over Fear." This movie looks like it's going to be awesome. Denzel Washington is the man, and it looks like this could have turned out to be a great film project for him.

In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a man who believes he has put his mysterious past behind him and dedicated himself to beginning a new, quiet life. But when McCall meets Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can't stand idly by – he has to help her. Armed with hidden skills that allow him to serve vengeance against anyone who would brutalize the helpless, McCall comes out of his self-imposed retirement and finds his desire for justice reawakened. If someone has a problem, if the odds are stacked against them, if they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer.

The Equalizer opens in theaters and IMAX on September 26th.

Dwayne Johnson Set to Play Black Adam in SHAZAM

Dwayne Johnson has been teasing his role in Warner Bros' big screen adaptation of Shazam for awhile, and it looks like his role has been officially confirmed, and fans are going to love it. Johnson will play Black Adam in the movie! The actor confirmed the news himself earlier when he tweeted the following:

"Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot." My honor to become.. #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics

The actor could have had whatever role he wanted, but I'm really happy that he took Black Adam because he's perfect for it. He's also said himself that he's a huge fan of the character, so it make sense that he is bringing that character to life. This is the role that fans hoped he would take.

Variety then reports that Darren Lemke is writing the script for the film. He worked on the script for the upcoming Goosebumps movie for Sony, and also wrote Jack the Giant Slayer and DreamWorks Animation’s Turbo. Those last two scripts made for weak films. Maybe he'll be able to do something better for Shazam though.

Black Adam is Shazam's arch enemy, but he has also been imagined as a corrupted antihero. It will be interesting to see how they portray him on the big screen.

A Comprehensive Guide to Which Doctors You Should Trust

0
0

Not all doctors are created equal. Some are actually supervillains, some are formerly respected cardiothoracic surgeons who turned into TV hacks peddling snake oil, and some don’t even have any qualifications. Luckily, Shea Strauss is here to help us figure out who we can rely on. He created this matrix rating each doctor, or “doctor” as the case may be, on both their trustworthiness and their qualifications. I would quibble with some of the placements — why does he trust the Spin Doctors so much? — but his suggestion that we should trust Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable and the Doctor an equal amount is pretty spot on.

Gory Red-Band Trailer for ABCs OF DEATH 2

very-red-band-trailer-for-abcs-of-death-2

I really enjoyed the first ABCs of Death horror anthology film, and the sequel looks like it will be at least as equally insane. 26 short films directed by 26 talented directors make up the ABCs of Death 2 and those films are disgustingly brutal, disturbing, and very funny. Each film corresponds with a letter from the alphabet, and the directors had complete freedom to do what they wanted with the letter assigned. This first red-band trailer for the movie gives you a little taste of the complete madness that awaits horror fans.

ABCs OF DEATH 2 is the follow-up to the most ambitious anthology film ever conceived with productions spanning from Nigeria to UK to Brazil and everywhere in between. It features segments directed by over two dozen of the world’s leading talents in contemporary genre film. The film is comprised of twenty-six individual chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were then given free rein in choosing a word to create a story involving death.

Provocative, shocking, funny and at times confrontational, ABCs OF DEATH 2 is another global celebration of next generation genre film making.

The movie will be released on October 31st, and I've included a list of the 26 directors that were involved with the film below the trailer. This looks like it's going to be a ton of fun!

World War II Style STAR WARS Photos

I came across a badass series of World War II Star Wars photos that I had to share with you! As you can see they put iconic elements from the Star Wars universe into photos from World War II. The results are pretty stunning. If you're interested in buying any of these prints, head on over to Thirteenth Floor

I really enjoy seeing art like this that places things from the Star Wars universe into real life. Maybe it's because ever since I was a kid I just wanted Star Wars to be real so bad.

Original Stan Lee GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Cameo That Was Denied by Disney

Stan Lee could have had a much more amusing cameo in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy if Disney hadn't forbade what director James Gunn had originally pitched. During a panel at Dragon-Con, Gunn revealed the concept of what that cameo would have been, and it was so much better than we we ended up seeing. The following info comes from Collider:

"One of the losing battles regarded Stan Lee's original cameo in the film. Originally, Gunn had planned to have Lee in one of the Collector's exhibits. Groot would then look at the exhibit aghast, to which Lee would flick off the large tree creature."

That would have been freakin' hilarious! Having Lee in The Collector's collection is such a brilliantly fun idea. I guess the reason is didn't happen was because it was too similar to the flipping off joke with Peter Quill and Nova Corps. The movie was still great though!

Evolution of Catwoman Cartoon Style Tribute Art by Jeff Victor

Artist Jeff Victor has created another fantastic piece of cartoon style "evolution" art. This time he puts the focus on Catwoman and gives us the different iterations of the character that we've seen over the years on TV and film. Here's a note from the artist:

"A tribute to one of the greatest comic characters of all time: Catwoman! I can't decide who I like better- Michelle Pfeiffer or Julie Newmar. Which Catwoman is your favorite?"

My favorite Catwoman was from Batman: The Animated Series, but if I had to go with live action it would be Michelle Pfeiffer

OLDBOY Director Park Chan-wook to Direct FINGERSMITH Thriller

oldboy-director-park-chan-wook-to-direct-fingersmith-thriller

Park Chan-wook has chosen his first film project since his English-language debut film Stoker. The director will be returning to South Korea for his follow-up movie that will be an adaptation of Sarah Waters‘ 2002 novel Fingersmith.

The story is set in Victorian London, and it focuses on young women are who work as petty thieves called "fingersmiths”.  This isn't the first time the book has been adapted. Back in 2005 the BBC made a two-part miniseries, which is where the photo above comes from.

Park's version of the story will be set in Korea sometime during the Japanese occupation (1910 – 1945).  Casting is currently underway, and production is set to begin in the first half of 2015.  Here's the synopsis for Waters’ novel that gives you a better more detailed description of the story.

Sue Trinder is an orphan, left as an infant in the care of Mrs. Sucksby, a “baby farmer,” who raised her with unusual tenderness, as if Sue were her own. Mrs. Sucksby’s household, with its fussy babies calmed with doses of gin, also hosts a transient family of petty thieves—fingersmiths—for whom this house in the heart of a mean London slum is home.

One day, the most beloved thief of all arrives—Gentleman, an elegant con man, who carries with him an enticing proposition for Sue: If she wins a position as the maid to Maud Lilly, a naïve gentlewoman, and aids Gentleman in her seduction, then they will all share in Maud’s vast inheritance. Once the inheritance is secured, Maud will be disposed of—passed off as mad, and made to live out the rest of her days in a lunatic asylum.

With dreams of paying back the kindness of her adopted family, Sue agrees to the plan. Once in, however, Sue begins to pity her helpless mark and care for Maud Lilly in unexpected ways…But no one and nothing is as it seems in this Dickensian novel of thrills and reversals.

This will be a great project for Park who has directed other great films such as Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, and Thirst.

It's Always Sunny on Tatooine - STAR WARS Comedy Sketch

"Now lets talk about our orders! Can we talk about our orders? Please TK772!"

Our friends over at Sneaky Zebra have made an awesomely entertaining comedy sketch called It's Always Sunny on Tatooine. If you couldn't tell by the title, it's a parody mashup of Star Wars and Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I'm a huge fan of both of these things, so I thoroughly enjoyed how this sketch came together. They did a great job!

The short shows us what happens when one over worked Stormtrooper stumbles upon a major conspiracy. The parody is based on the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Pepe Silvia/Mailroom sketch, which you can watch here.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller Adapting THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO for the Big Screen

I know this news might be kind of old, but I've been on vacation for the last week, and one of the greatest pieces of news that I saw while I was gone was that Phil Lord and Chris Miller would be developing a big screen adaptation of the classic 1980's TV series The Greatest American Hero

These directors are the perfect fit for this project too! Just in case you need a refresher, these are the same guys who gave us such films as The LEGO Movie, 21 Jump Street, and 22 Jump Street. They have the storytelling talent and humor to turn this thing into an amazing movie. The script is currently being written by Rodney Rothman (22 Jump Street).

I absolutely loved watching The Greatest American Hero as a kid. It was one of those shows that I just couldn't miss. I remember that if I did miss it I would get pissed off and throw a tantrum. I appreciated the brilliance of the series even more when I rewatched it as an adult.

The series starred William Katt as a goofy high school teacher who has an alien encounter in the desert one night. He ends up in possession of a red jump suit that gives him superpowers including the ability to fly. He loses the instruction manual for the suit and falls in love with an FBI agent who persuades him to help fight crime despite his trouble in figuring out how to work the suit.

I just couldn't be more excited that this movie is in development. There's an amazing team of funny talent developing the project, and because of that I'm confident that this movie is going to be amazing. I wonder who they will cast in the roles of the lead characters.

Home Built Elysium Exoskeleton that Works

A Youtube user by the name The Hacksmith has built an awesome Elysium-inspired exoskeleton that actually works. In the video below he tests out the exoskeleton by curling 170 pounds, and he does it like it's nothing. I love how fans like this go out and attempt to make these things we see in movies a reality! This is just the beginning, and it will be interesting to see how this suit evolves.

Thanks to Gizmodo for the heads up!

Dax Shepard Developing CHiPS Movie for Warner Bros.

dax-shepard-developing-chips-movie-for-warner-bros

Dax Shepard is set to develop a big screen adaptation of the classic motorcycle cop series CHiPS. He will write, star, and direct the movie, which will also co-star Michael Pena (End of Watch). Like the TV series, the movie will revolve around two California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers.

Shepard will play Jon Baker, the "by-the-book officer" played by Larry Wilcox in the TV show. Pena is set to play Frank Poncherello, Baker's "wild partner," who was played by Erik Estrada.

CHiPS was such a cool show to watch, and always managed to entertain. It ran on NBC from 1977 to 1983 with 139 episodes. Fans of the series might be happy to know that creator Rick Rosner will be an executive producer on the series.

This has the potential to be fun movie if it's done right. But, I've never been a fan of Shepard or his work. The guy was just never funny to me, so I'm not expecting much. Phil Lord and Chris Miller managed to do some hilarious stuff with 21 and 22 Jump Street so we know it's possible for these kinds of TV to film adaptations to be successful. Shepard isn't Lord or Miller though.

Clip from Joe Dante's Zombie Romantic Comedy - BURYING THE EX

clip-from-joe-dantes-zombie-romantic-comedy-burying-the-ex

Gremlins director Joe Dante has always made entertaining films. One of my favorites is The 'Burbs with Tom Hanks. Dante has jumped into the world of zombies for his next film called Burying the Ex, and today we have the first clip from the zombie romantic comedy.

The movie stars Anton Yelchin and Ashley Greene, and it's set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival. It seems to have an entertaining story that is perfect for Dante's style, and the clip that was released gives us a fun look at the what this movie will be like.

The film follows Max (Yelchin), an all-around nice guy, and his overbearing but incredibly beautiful girlfriend, Evelyn (Greene). Their relationship takes a nosedive after they decide to move in together and Evelyn turns out to be a controlling, manipulative nightmare. Max realizes it's time to call it quits, but there's just one problem: he's too afraid to break up with her. Fate steps in when Evelyn is involved in a freak accident and dies, leaving Max single and ready to mingle. Several weeks later, he has a chance encounter with Olivia (Alexandra Daddario), a cute and spirited girl who just might be his soul mate. But that same night, Evelyn returns from the grave as a dirt-smeared Zombie and she's determined to live happily ever after with Max... even if that means turning him into one of the undead.

I'll be looking forward to watching this flick. Thanks to Deadline for the clip!

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 - Honest Trailer and Everything Wrong Video

the-amazing-spider-man-2-honest-trailer-and-everything-wrong-video

Screen Junkies and Cinema Sins switched places recently to give us an "Honest Trailer" and "Everything Wrong" video for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Basically Cinema Sins did the "Honest Trailer" this time around and Screen Junkies did the "Everything Wrong" video. It's a fun little crossover that's a little weird at first, but I think you'll enjoy the videos they released. They really have fun tearing into this film. I enjoyed the movie, but it was definitely not without its problems.

Full Synopsis and Spot for Marvel's AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2

full-synopsis-for-marvels-agents-of-shield-season-2

Marvel and ABC have released a full detailed synopsis for the upcoming second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It provides fans with information on what we can expect to see from Coulson, Skye, May, Fitz, and Simmons as they continue their battle with Hydra. I really liked where they ended up taking the first season, and I'm excited to see what they do for Season 2. I also included a recently released promo trailer for the series below the synopsis.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns for a dynamic, action-packed second season, with newly appointed Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) - now the keeper of the secrets -- charged with rebuilding and restoring government and public trust in S.H.I.E.L.D. in the wake of the events of "Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier," where it was revealed evil Hydra agents had infiltrated the organization. Ever since the existence of super heroes and aliens became public knowledge after the Battle of New York, the world has been trying to come to grips with this new reality. Agent Phil Coulson, who had died at the hands of Loki during the battle, was resuscitated and brought back into action, assembling a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division). S.H.I.E.L.D.'s mission: to protect those who cannot protect themselves from threats they cannot conceive.

But the biggest threat was growing from within, as S.H.I.E.L.D.'s old enemy, Hydra - a dangerous extremist group Captain America fought against in World War II - had secretly infiltrated and infected the organization at the highest levels. Once revealed to the public, S.H.I.E.L.D., including Coulson and his team, was discredited and made to look like the enemy. The world now views S.H.I.E.L.D. as untrustworthy, and it's Coulson's job to change that opinion.

After helping to thwart Hydra, Coulson was appointed as Director and tasked with rebuilding the agency. This won't be an easy job to accomplish with the majority of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents either killed, secretly working for Hydra or free agents. Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), expert pilot, martial artist and longtime friend, will continue to look after Coulson in the wake of the mysterious etchings he's been carving into walls. What do these etchings mean, and can Coulson be trusted? Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, was found to be a Hydra mole and a traitor to S.H.I.E.L.D. and locked up away from the world and his former teammates. But this isn't the last we've seen of him... After being left to die in the middle of the ocean by Ward, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), brilliant engineer, and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), genius bio-chemist, found a way to escape their watery grave. But all did not go well for Fitz, who was left in a coma and may never regain his full cognitive functions; a devastating blow to Simmons. And computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet), now a full-fledged S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, discovered her origins as a 0-8-4 -- an object of unknown origin - and that her parents were considered "monsters." Could Skye have darkness lying dormant inside of her? Also joining Coulson's core team is Lance Hunter (Nick Blood), a dashing mercenary sharp shooter with a quick wit. Since he didn't rise up through the ranks, does he have an ulterior motive for helping out the team?

Who can Coulson trust?

The series is set to return on Tuesday, September 23rd!

Margot Robbie in Talks for GHOST IN THE SHELL Movie

The Wolf Of Wall Street‘s female lead, Margot Robbie, is in talks to star in in the live-action big screen adaptation of the Japanese anime Ghost In The Shell. Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) is currently attached to direct the film for DreamWorks from a script written by Bill WheelerSnow White and the Huntsman looked great visually, and I'm sure he'll bring some visual awesomeness to Ghost in the Shell. But let's wait and see how he tells the story, because he failed in that aspect with Snow White

The story follows the exploits of a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission that specializes in fighting technology-related crime. If you haven't seen the anime yet, you really need to watch it to really appreciate the greatness of the story.

Robbie was great in The Wolf of Wall Street, and on top of her acting talent she is absolutely beautiful. Throw some dark hair on her, and I could totally see her doing in the role of Motoko. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if they change that name for American audiences. Robbie would be an awesome choice though, and I hope things work out with her.

This is going to be an American made film. I understand that there are a ton of very talented Japanese actresses out there that could take on this role, but the studio is already looking to cast a white woman in the part. This is just how Hollywood works, and I think Robbie is a solid choice under the circumstances.

Quentin Tarantino's THE HATEFUL EIGHT Will Shoot in January

quentin-tarantinos-the-hateful-eight-will-shoot-in-january

The Weinstein Company announced that Quentin Tarantino's upcoming western The Hateful Eight will start shooting in January 2015, and it will be released later that year. The movie is being shot in Super CinemaScope (70mm) and they also revealed that the movie will have the largest 70mm release in over 20 years.

There was a teaser trailer released in theaters recently, and even though it had no actual footage from the film as it hasn't started shooting yet, it was still enough to get me excited. I love westerns, and this has the makings of a great one.

The Hateful Eight follows the steadily ratcheting tension that develops after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route, and traps a pitiless and mistrustful group which includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier, and a female prisoner in a saloon in the middle of nowhere.

No stars have been officially confirmed yet, but Bruce Dern, Kurt Russell, Michael Madsen, James Remar, Walton Goggins, Samuel L. Jackson, and of course Jennifer Lawrence have all been mentioned as being involved. The Weinsteins had this to say in a statement:

“We are incredibly excited to begin production on The Hateful Eight, as we know this picture will be as innovative, brash and of course fun as all Quentin projects prior. There is, quite simply, no other filmmaker like him, and we are as proud as ever to continue this partnership that started over twenty years ago.”

This is gonna be great.

On Friday, September 5th, the classic Best Picture-winning Tom Hanks movie Forrest Gump will  be released in IMAX for the first time to celebrate the film's 20th anniversary. As a special reward for the fans who go out to see the film, they will get this poster that was made especially for this occasion. These are a limited edition set of prints so they will only be available while supplies last

Forrest Gump is considered by a lot of people to be one of the most overrated films ever. But you know what? I don't care, I love that movie and it's one of the films that should wear its stamp of overratedness proudly.

Robert Downey Jr. Discusses BLACK WIDOW Movie

0
0

There has been a lot of discussion recently about female superhero movies, and how Black Widow should get her own spin off film. During an interview with USA Today Robert Downey Jr. was asked about what he thought of the possibility of a Black Widow movie. He starts off by joking, "Doesn’t Scarlett deserve a break?" He went on to say:

"Look, I think that the interesting thing particularly after [Guardians of the Galaxy] with Zoe [Saldana], even from the first Iron Man where Pepper was kind of this really – to me the Iron Man franchise would never have taken off without [Gwyneth] Paltrow. There’s something about her that grounded the story. She’s not your typical lady in a superhero movie, and then by Iron Man 3 she’s swallowing serums and putting on suits and kicking [butt] and all that stuff. It would be kind of more appropriate for a character that already was like a Black Widow [to lead a movie]. It just seems like whatever Scarlett does people want to go see it."

Downey Jr. also thinks that everyone in the Avengers world deserves a franchise saying:

“The funny thing is honestly at this point everyone deserves a franchise. I think Jeremy Renner is — when folks see the Avengers: Age of Ultron he’s just a rockstar, a badass. And Ruffalo is pumped. He does great (work). I’d like to hear them talk even more seriously about a Hulk franchise, because that’s been one of the toughest ones to get right. But I’m sure that my parent company is feeling expansive [and] bold after the summer they’ve had."

Did Joss Whedon actually turn Hawkeye into a badass in Age of Ultron?! I hope so, because he was the weakest part about the first Avengers movie. I would love to eventually see a Black Widow film. I'm sure one day it will happen, but I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon.
