I came across a clip and trailer for a new anime film called Patema Inverted on io9 recently, and it looked cool enough to share with the rest of you. I've been watching a lot of anime recently, so I'm kind of keeping my eye out for new and different things.

The story follows a princess who lives in the deep subterranean area of the earth. She accidentally falls into a deep pit that leads to the surface world, where she discovers a race of people for whom gravity is reversed, and now she's in danger of completely falling off the planet.

You can watch the trailer for the film below, and to watch the clip, click here. Here's a more detailed synopsis of the film:

If you can't trust gravity, then what can you trust?

An exhilarating tale of star-crossed love and overcoming impossible odds, Patema Inverted is the richly inventive new film from young gun of the anime scene, Yasuhiro Yoshiura.

In a distant future, rebellious teenager Patema lives underground in a grim industrial complex. Exploring the outer boundaries of her home one day, she stumbles into a hole and starts falling ... up. Caught upside down in the branches of a tree, she is discovered by thoughtful surface-walker Age. Realising that gravity works on each of them in different directions, the two embark on a perilous mission to uncover the dark forces ruling the world they thought they knew.

The full-length film get a limited U.S. release starting in New York City's IFC Center on Friday, August 29th. Make sure to check out the film's Facebook page here for more upcoming release dates and locations.

We've got a creepy extended red-band trailer for all you horror fans out there for the upcoming thriller As Above, So Below. This may be one of those found footage films that audiences seem to be getting annoyed with, but regardless of that this actually looking like it will be an interesting and entertaining flick.

The fact that the story takes place in the catacombs that are deep under the city of Paris is a cool selling point for me. It makes for such a nightmarish setting. The new trailer is full of all kinds of violent, blood-drenched footage. Here's the synopsis:

Miles of twisting catacombs lie beneath the streets of Paris, the eternal home to countless souls. When a team of explorers ventures into the uncharted maze of bones, they uncover the secret of what this city of the dead was meant to contain. A journey into madness and terror, As Above, So Below reaches deep into the human psyche to reveal the personal demons that come back to haunt us all.

The movie is set to be released on August 15th.

Ridley Scott Says BLADE RUNNER 2 Script Is "Damn Good"

Ridley Scott continues to kick ass as a director and is prepping for the release of his next film project Exodus: Gods and Kings, which comes out in December. He's also started developing his next movie, The Martian, which stars Matt Damon. After that, Scott has two sequels in the pipeline — Blade Runner 2 and Prometheus 2

During a recent interview with EW, the director opened up about both of those sequels, revealing that the script for the Blade Runner 2 has been completed and seeming convinced that Harrison Ford will be back and that the sequel will happen.

"It's written and it's damn good. Of course it involves Harrison, who is a survivor after all these years - despite the accident (referring to Ford's Star Wars injury). So yes, that will happen."

Scott also revealed that he will probably start working on the film after The Martian. That really doesn't leave a lot of time to make Prometheus 2, as it's currently set to be released on March 4th, 2016. The director said,

"That’s the problem. I’ve got a lot of ducks in a row. But they’re all written."

I hope that Scott does take on Blade Runner 2 next. I'm much more excited about that than I am for a Prometheus sequel.

Blade Runner 2 was written by the writer of the original, Hampton Fancher, as well as Michael Green. Prometheus 2 was written by Green and Jack Paglen. Which sequel are you most excited about?

Neil Marshall Wants to Make a Black Widow Movie for Marvel

There are a lot of fans out there who would love to see a stand alone Black Widow movie. Marvel studio president Kevin Feige has admitted in previous interviews that the studio has been discussing ideas for a solo film, but that it also wouldn't happen anytime soon. When it does eventually happen, Game of Thrones director Neil Marshall would love to make it! In an interview with Vanity Fair, he said,

"I would love to do a Black Widow movie. That’s perfect, I would love to do that. That character is really interesting, she doesn’t have any superpowers, she just has extraordinary skills, and the world that she comes from, being this ex-K.G.B. assassin, I find that really fascinating, yeah."

As you already know, Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow doesn't have any superhuman powers. She's just a natural badass, and that's what Marshall says he likes about her.

"I think I’d like to do a big movie with a strong female lead, whether or not she would be a superhero. [...] I’m less interested in people with superpowers because I can’t identify with them. Very rarely do they get killed off, and when they do get killed off, chances are they’re going to be back… somehow. Yes, I’d love to do a big splashy movie with a great female lead, but it has to be someone I can believe in."

Black Widow has been such a great character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I think there's a great story to tell with her. It's just a matter of finding the right story and time throw it into the mix of films.

I also think that Marshall would be a great director to develop the project. He's definitely the kind of director that Marvel would bring on board. Marshall's not a big, well-known director yet, but on top of Game of Thrones he has also directed The DescentCenturion, and the pilot episode for NBC’s Constantine.

#LacesOut this Fall.

I've seen some clever editing in my day, but never have I imagined you could spin footage of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective into a horror prequel. This fan made trailer, titled Finkle, follows the Miami Dolphins kicker who botched the Super Bowl XVII game winning kick. Now he has only one thing on his mind... revenge. Very creative work from Casey Preskitt.

The classic anime Akira and the classic comic The Dark Knight Returns gets mashed together in this spectacular cover art by artist Uwe De Witt. It's called "Akira Tetsuo Shima Returns," and it's the first thing I've ever seen that has made me think about what a sequel to Akira might be like.

Will Hawkeye Appear in CAPTAIN AMERICA 3?

Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye character is finally going to be explored a little more in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and now it sounds like there's a chance that he'll also be included in the storyline for Captain America 3

In a recent interview with Collider, Renner told the site that he might have a role in Captain America 3. While talking about some of his upcoming projects that actor said:

"There are rumblings of Captain America 3. I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man (laughs). I’m trying to stay home and I can’t."

Black Widow played a huge role in Captain America: The Winter Solider as did The Falcon, so it's not hard to believe that they would find a place for Haweye in the sequel. He was actually supposed to be in The Winter Soldier but was written out of it in the process with Black Widow taking on some of the things Hawkeye would have been involved with.

I think it would be really cool to see Hawkeye working with Cap and Falcon as they try to find Bucky. Hawkeye and Cap have always had a fun relationship in the comics, and I'd like to see that explored on the big screen.

Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day to Join VACATION Sequel

Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Charlie Day (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) are in negotiations to join New Line Cinema's Vacation reboot/sequel. If cast, they will join Ed Helms and Christina Applegate on the project.

Horrible Bosses writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein will direct the movie from a script that they wrote. The new Vacation film will follow the adventures of Clark Griswold's grown-up son Rusty (Helms). He takes his own family on a road trip that will be full of all kinds of crazy antics.

According to Variety, Hemsworth will play Audrey’s husband, and Day will play a river raft touring guide. It will be really interesting seeing Hemsworth take on a comedy like this. Thor can be a bit comedic, but it's pretty dry. This will be a very different kind of film for him, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they utilize him. Day is always hilarious, though, so he's going to fit in perfectly.

Hemsworth will shoot Vacation before taking on Universal Picture's The Huntsman, which is a spin-off of Snow White and the Huntsman, in the first quarter of 2015.

Action Movie Kid is back and kicking ass in a new volume of adventures created by DreamWorks animator Daniel Hashimoto, and his son James. It's cool to have a dad that knows how to play around with special effects. My dad was the same way, but it was more of the old-school practical effects stuff because computers weren't as awesome back then.

There's a lot of really fun stuff included in the video below that you're all going to enjoy. In case you missed the first video click here to check it out!

A new trailer for David Fincher and Ben Affleck's murder mystery thriller Gone Girl aired last night during the Emmy Awards. That trailer is now available for you to watch online in case you missed it. The movie is an adaptation of the novel written by Gillian Flynn, and there's a awesome team of talent that is bringing this intense story to life.

The story "unearths the secrets at the heart of a modern marriage. On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick’s portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?"

The movie also has a strong supporting cast that includes Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit, Emily Ratajkowski, Casey Wilson, Boyd Holbrook, and Scoot McNairy. The film is set to open in theaters on October 3rd.

First Superman Comic Book Sells for $3.2 Million

Action Comics No. 1 is the first Superman comic ever, and a pristine edition of it recently sold for $3.2 million in an auction that was conducted on ebay. The bidding ended on Sunday night with a total of 48 bids.

The comic was auctioned off by collectibles dealer Darren Adams who called it, “the Mona Lisa of comics and stands alone as the most valuable comic book ever printed. He also said that it is "The finest known copy of the most sought after comic book in the world. A 1938 museum piece with PERFECT WHITE pristine pages." It received a grade of 9.0 from the Certified Guaranty Company.

The comic was put up for auction on August 14th, and the bidding began at $1 million. Apparently there are only about 50 unrestored original copies of Action Comics No. 1 still in existence.

The final selling price makes this the most expensive comic book in the world. I can't even imagine what it would be like to drop $3.2 million on a comic book.

Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy is rockin' the '80s tunes in this fun fan art created by Augie Pagan. That extra scene of Groot dancing at the end of the movie really seemed to resonate with audiences. I'm so excited to see what's in store for these Guardians of the Galaxy in the sequel. We've got a long way to go, but it's coming.

With the comic book run of Kick-Ass 3 concluded, fans have been wondering if we will ever get another sequel to the film franchise. According to Hit Girl herself, Chloe Moretz, a Kick-Ass 3 movie isn't going to happen. She has given up on the character she so awesomely portrayed, and the franchise that fans have enjoyed. She was asked about the movie in a recent interview with Digital Spy, and this was her reply:

"Sadly, I think I'm done with the character. Hit-Girl was a very cool character, but I don't think there will be any more movies. You make these movies for the fanboys, but nowadays everyone seems to pirate them rather than watch them in the movie theatre. Kick-Ass 2 was one of the number one pirated movies of the year, but that doesn't help us because we need box office figures. We need to prove to the distributors that we can make money from a third and a fourth movie - but because it didn't do so well, we can't make another one."

Moretz violently sliced her way into the hearts of fanboys everywhere back in 2010, and it's kind of a shame that we won't see her play this amazingly awesome character again. It sucks that Kick-Ass 3 won't get a movie adaptation, but at least we have the comic book.

10 Ridiculous Obscure Marvel Characters - Part 1

Marvel has a crazy number of characters in their comic book library — over 7,000 of them. We will never see the majority of these characters on the big screen. There are so many obscure characters out there, and a lot of them are absurdly silly. I've set out on search to find some of the most ridiculous Marvel characters that you might not have ever heard of. Here are the first set that I discovered, and there will be more to come. A lot of these would make hilarious movies!

Orb

Orbmarvelmaess47755

Real Name: Drake Shannon

This guy wore an eyeball motorcycle helmet that contained a specialized micro-circuitry, capable of firing laser blasts and hypnotizing his victims. The helmet was designed by They Who Wield Power.

Without the helmet he was just a guy with "normal human strength, for a man of his size and build and he was criminally insane as a result of the accident which disfigured his face." He was also capable of hand-to-hand combat and was an expert motorcyclist.

White Rabbit

White-rabbit-marvel-yep886768

Real Name: Lorina Dodson

Aliases: Mistress of Mayhem, Queen of Crime, Thumper

White Rabbit is a criminal whose powers are listed as having the "normal strength of a human female that engages in regular exercise." She's got the hand-to-hand combat down, but what good is it if it's just normal human strength? And who doesn't have hand-to-hand combat in the Marvel universe?

As for weapons, she utilizes a wide array gadgets and technology, most notably razor-tipped umbrellas. It's looks like she'd get along with The Joker and Harley Quinn.

Orka

Aliases: Killer Whale, the Human Killer Whale, Weapon One

Orka is a mercenary with tremendous superhuman strength. He has stamina and durability, as well as enhanced speed and agility both on land in in water. He can lift up to 95 tons while wet and up to 75 tons while dry.

Why is he called Orka? Because he can communicate with and command killer whales using different sounds. He can control up to 100 whales at once. Even though he can survive outside of water, if he's out of it too long he starts to become emotionally and mentally unstable.

Frog-Man

Real Name: Eugene Paul Patilio

Basically, the guy's frog suit has electrical coils that give him the Ability to leap great distances and internal padding that allows him to bounce off objects without getting hurt. He's kind of an annoying character, but I guess he was meant to be funny.

Bi-Beast

Bi-beast-marvel-996986

Alias: Skull-Brother

The Bi-Beast is an advanced android that has superhuman strength, stamina and durability. He also has an extensive knowledge of Avian warfare and culture, but has no knowledge of science. Oh! And he has two heads. His upper head has extensive knowledge of Avian warfare and his lower head has knowledge of the culture.

The character is described as "just another idea for something powerful/impressive enough to fight the Hulk."

Skein

Skien-Marvel-78686986

Real Name: Sybil Dvorak

Aliaes: Gypsy Moth, Sybarite

Skein is a Romanian actress and terrorist who not only started a cult, but also owned a sex club. This is one bad girl who dabbles in all kinds of wicked hobbies. She possesses the power of telekinesis, but is really restricted to just manipulating fibrous materials and soft-textured, malleable, yielding substances such as fabrics, silks, and human tissues.

Needle

needle-marvel-yep-9687986

This guy is a mute tailor who can paralyze people with his hypnotic gaze. One of his listed abilities is that he's "remarkably spray, considering his age." Of course, we can't forget that he carries a three-foot long giant needle as his weapon!

That's not all, folks. He would stalk young men who made the mistake of walking at night in the vicinity of his tailor shop. He would then proceed to petrify them with his gaze, and sew their mouths shut with the needle. Don't mess with the Needle!

Gorgolla

Gorgolla basically led an invasion of Earth centuries ago and arranged for the Stonians to hide out as gargoyles. Yeah, they basically hid out on all the stone churches and no one seemed to notice or care. His name also sounds like a delicious Italian cheese!

Owl

owl-marvel-yep-9585787443d

Real Name: Leland Owlsley

Before he became a criminal mastermind, the Owl was a financial advisor. After his criminal ties were exposed to the IRS, though, he started distributing Mutant Growth Hormones in the criminal underworld, because that's just what you do when life gets hard.

He has the ability to glide over short distances with a cape, acute hearing, and the best part — he can rotate his head 180 degrees and his eyes can move independently from each other. He also has retractable metal talons. That's a huge change from being a financial advisor.

Matador

Matador-marvel-yep-95878958959

Real Name: Manuel Eloganto

So this guy is really just a Matador. He has no special superhero abilities. He's just extremely fit and agile and is trained in the art of bullfighting. Like all Matadors, he carries a sword with him.

He pissed a lot of people off due to his cruelty and brutality towards the bulls, and at one point a riot broke out during one of his performances. Manuel was rushed to the hospital, and after his recovery, he swore revenge upon all mankind. From that moment on, he vanished from sight, starting to make evil schemes. Oooooooo… scary. Better watch out for The Matador!

Funko obviously has a good relationship with Marvel and they are currently releasing lots of cool toys based on the studio's most recent hit, Guardians of the Galaxy. Yesterday we showed you the dancing Groot toy, and now today we have Howard the Duck!

This was one of the coolest and most surprising cameos from any Marvel film. The character was voiced by Seth Green, and I hope that it's not the last we see of him. The toy was revealed by Executive Editorial Director of Marvel Digital Media, Ryan Penagos. There's no exact release date yet, but it will be released soon.

THE OMEN TV Series Gets a Full Season Order from Lifetime

I never watch Lifetime, but they are starting to develop things that I'm actually interested in watching. First it was Stephen King's Big Driver, then it was that Unauthorized Saved By The Bell Story, now it's a new TV series based on the 1976 horror film The Omen

The thriller is called Damien, and it comes from former Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara. The network ordered a six episode season that is targeted to air early next year.

According to Variety, the series "picks up from the movie’s storyline by focusing on the adult life of Damien Thorn as he realizes he is the Antichrist."  Lifetime executive and VP Rob Sharenow had this to say in a statement:

"Glen Mazzara has re-imagined him as a dark, romantic, anti-hero and this fresh take blends complex characters with premium storytelling to make something truly original."

I'm a big fan of the original horror movie, and they are definitely taking it in a direction I didn't expect. That's not necessarily a bad thing, and it will be interesting to see the story of Damian continue.
