THE MAN FROM NOWHERE Remake Being Written By Shawn Christensen

The Man From Nowhere is the latest South Korean thrillers to get a remake. Deadline reports that Dimension Films has acquired remake rights from CJ Entertainment. Shawn Christensen has been hired after Harvey Weinstein read his spec script for Abduction.

Lee Jeong-beom directed the original film, which follows "a quiet pawnshop keeper with a violent past who takes on a drug- and organ-trafficking ring to save the child who is his only friend." It opened at No. 1 at the Korean box office in August 2010 and held the top spot for five weeks in a row, becoming that year’s highest-grossing Korean film.

Christensen co-wrote Enter Nowhere with Jason Dolan, which is being released by Lionsgate. He also penned the Black List spec for Karma Coalition, which sold to Warner Bros.

I am not sure how I feel about this remake, as the original is simply amazing. If you have not seen this film, check it out now. Do you think that this movie should get the remake treatment?

Writer Christopher Storer is set to make his directorial debut with a new relationship comedy called RelanxiousDeadline reports that Olivia Wilde, Jason Sudeikis, Brie Larson, and Fred Armisen are set to star in the film set to start shooting this summer in Chicago. The comedy is being produced by Daniel Dubiecki and Lorene Scafaria (writer/director of Seeking a Friend for the End of the World).

Here is a description of the film:
The story follows Barrett (Wilde), an anxiety-ridden woman who meets and is smitten with George (Sudeikis), who is agoraphobic. Their courtship is limited to phone conversations in which they discuss the dates they would go on if their phobias didn’t stand in the way. As the fantasies develop, the two must decide if they can put aside their fears in order to find real-life romance. Larsen plays Barrett’s sister, and Armisen plays George’s friend and only contact with the outside world.

This cast sounds like a perfect combination to me. Does this sound like a movie you want to see?

A bunch of new hi-resolution stills have arrived for Wrath of the Titans. The film stars Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson, Danny Huston, Edgar Ramirez, Bill Nighy, Toby Kebbell, and Rosamund Pike

Here's the Synopsis:

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington) --the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson)--is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity's lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus' godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans' strength grows stronger as Zeus' remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon's demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Check out the stills, thanks to Kino Gallery via Comic Book Movie.

The movie arrives in theaters on March 30th, 2012. I am not planning on seeing this movie in theaters after being burned by Clash of the Titans. The trailers and TV spots that have been released have not sold me on the movie. Are you planning on seeing this movie in theaters?

New TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Movie To Be Released 2013

In the process of rearranging their movie line-up, Paramount Pictures set the release date of Platinum Dunes' reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Christmas Day in 2013.

As of right now there are no story details, but I think it's safe to say that it will end up being a Ninja Turtles origin story, and they will end up fighting Shredder and The Foot. We've also heard that it will be a dark, gritty, violent, action film, unlike any other TMNT production we've seen before. At least, that's what I'm hoping for! There's no director attached, but it was previously reported that Wrath of the Titans director Jonathan Liebesman could end up taking on the radical challenge.

The script is being worked on by a team of writers that includes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man) who wrote a first draft, and then Josh Appelbaum and Andrew Nemec (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol). Michael Bay is set to produce the film.

As a fan of the ninja turtles franchise, I'm incredibly excited to see what comes of this. TMNT began as a black and white comic book series in 1984. It then blew up into mainstream popularity when it became a hit animated series in 1987. After that, we got an awesome live-action film in 1990, and that ended up spawning two live-action sequels, a live-action TV series, a second animated series, and a great CGI feature film.

I have no issues with seeing this new updated reboot of these classic characters. There's so much more they can do with them these days, especially with the technology we have. I really hope this turns out to be a badass TMNT film.

SIN CITY 2 Will Finally Start Shooting this Year

While at South by Southwest, filmmaker Robert Rodriguez was on a panel in which he talked about a few projects that he's been developing and in the process revealed that Sin City 2 would start shooting this year. After 7 years, he's actually going to get this sequel into production. There have been tons of news and rumors surrounding this film over the years. He said that it would most likely start this summer after he's finished with Machete Kills, which he's shooting in April.

As far as casting for both movies goes, nothing is set in stone, but he revealed that he's been in discussions with potential stars that "will be of the same caliber and eclecticism as the first films, which featured Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, Josh Hartnett, Don Johnson, and Steven Seagal."

Rodriguez also talked about his new Quickdraw Animation company that will be a separate entity from his Troublemaker Productions and will focus on creating CG animated feature films. The first two films he will be developing are Heavy Metal and a family film, which both have scripts and are headed to the storyboard preproduction phases. Rodriguez went on to explain "that he has found a way to streamline the animation process that will greatly shrink the amount of time it takes to produce one." He doesn't explain how he's going to do this, but "he will keep a core group of 6-8 animators in-house at his Austin-based Troublemaker Studios to mastermind all the story and visual elements before using sister companies to finish the animation."

The big question I have is... will the animation for these films be good? I've enjoyed about half of the films Rodriguez has made over the years, but the CG animation and effects he's used in his films have always looked cheap to me, and his family films have always sucked. It will be interesting to see what exactly he ends up coming up with.

What are your thoughts on Sin City 2 finally going into production, and this new animation studio that Rodriguez has created?

24 Movie Stalled, but it Might end up being a Trilogy

$
0
0

Oh, come on! Just as soon as the 24 movie is gaining speed, and everyone is getting excited that it's actually happening, a wrench was thrown into the well oiled gears. Looks like we might have to wait a little longer for our 24 movie to get made, but thankfully it's not dead.

The film was supposed to start prepping up for production in March with shooting to commence in April while Kiefer Sutherland's new TV series Touch is in hiatus. There was a possibility that Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) was going to direct it as well which would have been great! Unfortunatley 20th Century Fox has decided to hold off on rushing this film into production this year.

According to Deadline there are rumors that this was due to budget issues, and that Sutherland is upset that it's not happening, because he was excited about reprising his role as Jack Bauer for the big screen. But, studio insiders say "that Fox wasn’t convinced it had enough time to complete the film before Sutherland has to go back to work on Touch‘s second season, and didn’t want to rush and neither did Sutherland."

Brian Grazer and Sutherland are producing the film which has a complete script that everyone is excited about, and is ready to go when ever the studio is ready to make it happen. Chances are the studio will wait until Sutherland's next hiatus which will be next year.

The report goes on to reveal that the script was constructed "to play out in a three-picture arc. Maybe it was the real-time format, or perhaps the writing and endless cliffhangers, but the twists and turns and intensity created a blood pressure-spiking viewer experience." It would amazing if that was true! A 24 film trilogy would be incredible! I could see this turning into a big action-film franchise.

I really wish they wouldn't have put the the brake on for this project, this is a movie that needs to come out sooner rather than later, but I guess it's better late than never.

What do you think about the film being delayed, and the possibility that it could end up being a trilogy?

SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN - Trailer for the New Trailer

$

These trailers for trailers are pretty ridiculous. Just release the damn trailer! I predict that two to three years from now there will be trailers for the trailers of trailers. Screenwriter Damon Lindelof recently tweeted out a great little statement about this saying,

Although I have no shame in being a complete sellout with no artistic integrity, trailer for trailer are bullshit.

I couldn't agree more. That being said, here's the trailer for the upcoming new trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman, which looks like will be an entertainingly action-packed movie. The teaser is introduced by Chris Hemsworth, and it shows a bit of new footage.

The movie will be released on June 1st, 2012. What do you think about all this trailers for trailers business?

Here's the synopsis:

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White's beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

Dear Kevin Smith, Batman Vs. Vader? I Got An Answer

$
0
0

Dear Kevin Smith,

I was inspired by your recent contest offering money to whomever animates the best depiction of two of the "Darkest Knights" in geekdom squaring off. Unfortunately, I suck at animation, but I've done some research over the past couple days to come to a conclusion on who would be the decisive winner of the bout between galaxies.

Before I get into that, I have to lay down a very obvious ground rule. Vader cannot call upon the power of the Empire to take down Batman. I'm talking one on one, Vader takes a Tie Advanced X1 down to Earth and starts laying waste for whatever Sith reason he has. Batman gets word of it, observes, and is on the scene.

A lot of people I talked to called Vader right off the bat, and who can blame them? He has the force, the all encompassing life force that surrounds us and is within everything. A quick force choke or hard enough hit into a wall and Gotham's finest is done for. Furthermore, bat gadgets would easily be deflected, so even if he were able to avoid harm how could he even get close enough to land a punch? The answer, my good man, came after a bit of digging.

Batman must learn to use the force.

Impossible you might say, but it isn't. While he isn't a card carrying citizen of the galaxy far, far away, Batman is a living organism, which means he must have some midi-chlorians in his body, whether he was aware of it or not. Even if he doesn't, it is possible to infuse him with it, as shown by Darth Plaguies in the battles of Naboo. This might require a sample of Vader's blood which would be hard to obtain, and if that were to prove impossible for Bats, then he has a final option of finding a "force sensitive" object which likely exists somewhere on Earth.

I think we can all agree that once Batman obtains the force (one way or another) he is indeed "force sensitive." He has focus, strong will, and high concentration, all traits of a Jedi. There is an issue with his age. As we know from the movies, most Jedi are trained from a young age and require much training to fully develop their powers. The few exceptions include Luke Skywalker and of course, Darth Vader himself. Given that he has no Obi-Wan, can Batman train himself in the ways of the force?

The answer comes from the Star Wars books. Wayyyy way back in 36,453 BBY a bunch of monks, scholars, and scientists at a mystical sharing of knowledge convention on Tython discovered the force. Once aware of it, they were able to study and manipulate it to ultimately do good, and thus the Jedi order was formed. While he is no monk, Batman can certainly be described as scholarly and a bit of a science nerd, so it's safe to say his age will not bear on his ability to learn the force.

OKAY! Now that we've established that is is indeed possible for Batman to acquire, learn, and use the force, we can have Batman arrive in downtown Gotham where Vader just happens to be Force Choking Nightwing who arrogantly ran into battle. Vader senses a disturbance in the force and tosses the lifeless Dick Grayson aside and turns to his foe. Vader, sensing his ability, draws his saber but notices some difficulty. It seems he has lost the ability to use his mechanical hand.

Batman, you tricky bastard. Of course he's going to use any trick he's got, and we all know he is capable of hacking anything electronic. This instantly puts Vader at a disadvantage. If he wants to use the Force, he's going to have to sheathe his lightsaber. His ability to not utilize both is a huge score for Batman, but don't count out Vader yet.

While The Dark Knight has been known to swing a sword or two in his day, I doubt he can touch Vader's light saber prowess.  Furthermore, while I will concede humans on our planet can obtain the force, I will not grant the magical ability for Batman to develop a lightsaber, as that's a little bit of a reach even for Batman. Batman can hide and wait for his chance to strike, but his newfound force ability will make it impossible for the well-tuned instincts of Vader. It seems the playing field is again level as the two jump rooftop to rooftop, black capes aflutter in the wind.

Vader can't fully utilize the force, but can hold Batman at bay with the use of his saber. Batman, while able to utilize the basic powers of the force to ensure his survival, is not on Vader's level of Force mastery and cannot beat him on that alone. In addition, the Sith is slicing through every gadget he throws. So what can end this deadlock? We need an X factor to decisively say who can win this battle.

That X factor is a large body of water. Batman will eventually tire, and Vader will be able to prevail if the battle wears on for too long. Mr. Wayne's knowledge of the force is too weak and it would drain a lot of power from him to be constantly utilizing it, whereas Vader has training in controlling his output. If Batman were to be able to utilize all his strength, however, to successfully to knock Vader off the roof and into Gotham Harbor, that's a game changer.

Because he isn't on good terms with Kit Fisto, Darth Vader's lightsaber would short circuit underwater, and with a bum arm, swimming would be a challenge. Vader would be forced to save himself using the force to push himself out of the water, and boom open season for Batman. Saberless and force utilized for survival, there is no foreseeable way for the Dark Side to prevail in this scenario.

So there's my answer. If Batman can get Vader to Gotham Harbor and knock him inside, it's a victory for Gotham's newest Jedi. If they confine the fight downtown however, looks like Vader is going to walk away with a spare cape for his wardrobe.

Did I do all right?

ARTHUR & LANCELOT May Move Forward With Colin Farrell

$

Arthur & Lancelot may make it to the big screen after all. Earlier we reported that the David Dobkin film was put on indefinite hold by Warner Bros. because of a ballooning budget. Deadline is reporting today that the studio is reconsidering the movie with Colin Farrell in the lead.

It is not known where Farrell would fit in, but the earlier version had cast Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington to play Arthur and The Killing's Joel Kinnaman to play Lancelot. One thing is for sure, the budget will not be the $130 million previously projected. The studio was concerned about spending that much on two unproven stars for the contemporary reimagining of The Sword In The Stone. I can understand their concern with John Carter failing, which can partly be attributed to Taylor Kitsch in the lead.

I loved Excalibur and would love to see this movie become a reality. I am excited to see Farrell in Total Recall and think that he would be good in either the role of Arthur or Lancelot. Which role would you prefer to see Farrell play?

Awesome Trailer for Hostage Thriller THE ASSAULT

Check out this awesome trailer for an intense as hell looking film called The Assault. The movie is based on a true story that took place in 1994 when an Air France plane was hijacked. France ended up deploying a badass SWAT team a.k.a. GIGN to shut down the terrorist threat and save the hostages. The movie was directed by Julien Leclercq, and it looks great!

Here's the Synopsis:

An action packed thriller, "The Assault" is the gripping true story of the hijacking of a Paris-bound flight on Christmas Eve 1994, and the 48-hour effort to rescue the passengers. When four heavily armed Islamic terrorists hijack a Paris-bound Air France flight on the runway, 227 innocent lives hang in the balance. Their only chance of rescue is the determined French GIGN's (the elite counter-terrorism paramilitary unit of the French National Gendarmerie), called on to break the standoff and storm the plane. "The Assault" is a harrowing tale that captures the claustrophobic tension on board, and in strategy sessions with the government and the GIGN, until 48 hours later it reaches its final outcome, played out during an intense battle onboard the narrow confines of an aircraft.

The movie is set to be released on April 6th, 2012, and I'm looking forward to watching it. Check out the trailer, and let us know what you think!

Here's a collection of character banners/wallpapers that Disney has released for Pixar's new Scottish fairytale fantasy Brave. I absolutely love what I'm seeing from this film. Pixar really needs a good movie after we were let down by Cars 2. That was by far the worst movie they have made. I'm sure Brave will end up washing that bad taste out of our mouths.

Brave comes out on June 22nd, 2012, and features the voices of Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson, Robbie Coltrane, and Julie Walters. Check out the new images, and click here to watch one of the most recent trailers.

Here's the synopsis:

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In "Brave," a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida's actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it's too late.
