Screen Shot 2014-04-15 at 1.49.20 PM.png

NBC has released a new full trailer for their horror thriller mini-series Rosemay's Baby. This looks like it's going to be really good. You get to see Zoe Saldana go into crazy intense mode in this new trailer.

In the story, "Rosemary is the iconic young wife and would-be mother who, with her husband, moves into a Paris apartment that has a darkly storied past. After finally getting pregnant, she becomes increasingly suspicious that both her husband and their mysterious neighbors have ulterior motives about the future of her child."

If you haven't seen Roman Polanski's original film, I suggest you check it out. It's creepy as hell. I know this TV version won't be as good, but it still looks like it will be entertaining to watch. It premieres on May 11th.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has a new clip featuring a slow motion action sequence in Times Square, shot entirely from Spider-Man's perspective to show off his lightning fast instinct, or as fans of the comic would know it: "spidey sense." It's a well-choreographed sequence and shows the inventive and precision web skills of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield).

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in Belgium, Spain, UK, and Ireland today and opens in Austria, Australia, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Israel, New Zealand, Portugal, and Uruguay tomorrow… What the hell! It doesn't open in the USA until May 2nd, so everywhere in the world except China gets to watch it before us… Whatever happened to worldwide release dates?

Hey Sony! Pay David Fincher What He Wants to Direct Your Steve Jobs Movie

hey-sony-pay-david-fincher-what-he-wants-to-direct-your-steve-jobs-movie

Earlier this week it was announced that David Fincher was no longer attached to direct Sony Picture's Steve Jobs biopic. The script was written by Aaron Sorkin, and to have the two guys who brought us The Social Network develop this movie would have been a dream team of awesomeness. They would have delivered one hell of an incredible film.

So why isn't Fincher going to direct it anymore? Because he wanted $10 million up front in fees, as well as control of the marketing. The studio won't agree to that, so the director walked. Fincher is one hell of a talented individual, and the guy makes virtually perfect films. Knowing that he is going to deliver a high quality film that they know is going to be good, I say give it to him. The guy isn't going to let you down, and more importantly, he's not going to let the fans down either.

Apparently Sony, let him have "considerable input" into the marketing of their 2011 film The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, including honoring his request to use the tagline "The feel bad movie of Christmas" in its campaign. According to the report, a source says "Fincher also had the studio create metal, razor-blade-shaped one-sheet materials for the film that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce but were not suitable for display in theaters."

I'm sorry, but the marketing built around The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was freakin' brilliant! I loved every bit of it. It's a shame that we never got to see those razor blade shaped posters. Studios spend all kinds of money on marketing for movies that never sees the light of day, so that's hardly an excuse to not let Fincher direct the movie or have control over marketing. The guy is smart and talented and the movie just won't be as good without him.

The report goes on to say that  Fincher could re-enter negotiations, but that his fee is ridiculous. The source says, “You’re not doing Transformers here. You’re not doing Captain America. This is quality — it’s not screaming commerciality. He should be rewarded in success but not up front."

Why not up front? As I said before, the guy would deliver the studio the best possible product. Isn't that what they want in the films they make? And one final question… Why would they want anyone else to direct it? There's still hope that he could end up making the movie, and I hope they can reach some kind of agreement.

The biopic is based on Walter Isaacson's bestselling authorized biography. That book was based on more than 40 interviews that the author had with Jobs, as well as interviews with friends, family, and colleagues. Fincher wanted Christian Bale to play Jobs in the film, which would have been brilliant casting.

The film itself is said to consist of three long scenes that feature the launches of some of Apple's most buzzed-about product launches, including the Mac, NeXT (after Jobs had left Apple), and the iPod.

Then below you'll find a new image and four posters for Channing Tatum's weird-looking sci-fi adventure film, Jupiter Ascending. Out of these two movies, I'm definitely more excited for The Expendables 3. Which movie are you more excited to see?

First GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY TV Spot Takes Us Behind the Scenes

Last night the first Guardians of the Galaxy TV spot hit the air during Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (You gotta love that Disney synergy machine.) It features footage from the film and some behind the scenes action, as well as Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige explaining where it fits in the Marvel Universe and the main cast — Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel — talking about what makes it different. My favorite part is about 40 seconds in, when director James Gunn does a really big head nod at Diesel. I could watch that all day.

Guardians of the Galaxy makes it way into theaters on August 1. Here's the synopsis:

Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” finds space adventurer Peter Quill the object of a bounty hunt after stealing an orb coveted by a treacherous villain, but when Quill discovers the power it holds, he must find a way to rally the quartet of ragtag rivals hot on his trail to save the universe.

Someone Made a Documentary about Bronies

someone-made-a-documentary-about-bronies-male-my-little-pony-fans.jpg

First of all, for those of you who don't know what a Brony is, it's a hardcore male My Little Pony fan. This is a fairly new thing to me. My first encounter with a Brony was at a comic book store when my little girl wanted to buy a My Little Pony comic. The big, burly guy behind the counter was very excited about this and was talking to my daughter excitedly about the animated series. He then proceeded to roll up his shirt sleeve to reveal a Rainbow Dash tattoo on his forearm. For those of you who are Bronies, I'm not knocking ya! I just don't get it, but if that's your thing, good for you!

A documentary has been made called A Brony Tale, and it revolves around this Brony phenomenon that's sweeping the nation. It follows the journey of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic voice actress Ashleigh Ball as she travels to BronyCon, which is the largest My Little Pony fan convention in the world. I had no idea this Con existed until I saw the trailer for this doc.

If you haven't been exposed to the world of Bronies yet, this trailer is your first look into that world.

GAME OF THRONES and X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Mashup Art

With HBO's Game of Thrones back in full swing and FOX's X-Men: Days of Future Past a hot topic of discussion since the final trailer was released, I thought I'd post this fun piece of mashup art for the two franchises! It a Game of Thrones illustration based on the comic cover of Uncanny X-Men #141, which is what X-Men: Days of Future Past is based on. The illustration was done by Comfort Love and Adam Withers, and this what they had to say about it on their site:

"So, this was an idea that Adam was shocked - SHOCKED - had not been done yet. When it occurred to him, he scoured the Googles to see whether anybody else had done it, but nothing came up. So here he is, sitting on this goldmine idea. In case anybody isn’t getting the reference, this piece is an homage to the classic John Byrne cover to Uncanny X-Men #141 - the start of the Days of Future Past storyline. With the upcoming movie, you’ll probably be seeing this cover more often. Adam selected Dany, Tyrion, and Jon for the front because they seem to have the strongest “Plot Armor.” Whatever else might appear to happen to them, I suspect we’ll be seeing them through to the end of the story. Though god knows I could be wrong. That Martin SOB loves toying with our emotions."

Trailer for GOD'S POCKET Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman

Here is the trailer for God’s Pocket, which was one of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s final films. This is one of a few films he had finished before he died in February, along with A Most Wanted Man and Mockingjay. God’s Pocket is the first of those to hit theaters, with a planned release on May 9.

I saw God’s Pocket at Sundance. It is a very dark, very funny movie about a working class neighborhood in Philadelphia. Hoffman plays Mickey, a man who is trying to find out what actually caused his stepson’s “accidental” death. Hilarity ensues. So does a lot of weeping. And violence. It has gotten mixed reviews, but I liked it.  Directed by John Slattery, it also stars Christina Hendricks, John Turturro, and Richard Jenkins. You can watch our video review here.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Featurettes "Magneto's Helmet" and "A Fitting Story"

Last night, the final trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past gave us a glimpse into the film's overall story with a heaping amount of epic action. Today we have 2 featurettes the studio has released. One is about filming a sequence in which Magneto recovers his helmet, and the second is about the massive amount of period costumes required for an airport scene.

The video marketing for X-Men: Days of Future Past has been restrained compared to other recent and upcoming major releases, and lots of readers have said that they wish more movie marketing campaigns would do the same.

X-Men: Days of Future Past retcons the X-Men franchise May 23rd (USA).

Will the Final HOBBIT Film Get a More Exciting New Title?

$

It's looking like the third and final film in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy could be getting a new and more exciting sounding title. The current title is The Hobbit: There and Back Again. Now thanks to Theonering.net, we've learned that the title could very well be changed to The Hobbit: Into the Fire. The title was registered by New Line at about the same time that they registered The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which was shortly after it was announced that the original two Hobbit movies would be stretched to a trilogy.

There are several reasons for changing the title, and the site offers a list of potential reasons. Some of those reasons include that the current title is inaccurate to where the third movie begins. Into The Fire seems like it would be a better fit for the events that took place in The Desolation of Smaug. There's also the suggestion that the new title pays tribute to the chapter in The Hobbit titled "Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fire."

If this turns out to be true, I think the marketing team is just looking to spice the title up a bit to get more people to see the movie. The Hobbit: There and Back Again may be a better, more familiar and nostalgic title, but The Hobbit: Into the Fire definitely sounds more exciting, and people like that kind of thing. I'm not saying it's a better title. I'm just saying from a marketing stand point I can see why they would make the change.

Of course the title change isn't official, so there's always the chance that New Line is just planning some kind of movie tie-in that hasn't been announced yet, and they needed to reserve intellectual property rights. At the same time, it wouldn't surprise me if they did decide to do it.

Astronaut Wears FIREFLY Shirt in First Instagram from Space

This is the first Instagram sent from space. It's a selfie of NASA astronaut Steve Swanson, and the first thing I noticed is that he is wearing a Firefly t-shirt, rather than the beautiful blue planet behind him. How sad is that? Anyway the t-shirt he's wearing says, "Shipping & Logistics: Everything's Shiny."

Apparently the last time Swanson was in space in 2007, he took the full Firefly series and the movie Serenity along with him and left them on board the ISS space station. It's comforting to know that we actually have real hardcore Browncoats out there in space doing their thing.

BATMAN: ARKHAM KNIGHT — 15 High Res Images

We've posted some of these images from Batman: Arkham Knight before, but they were so small and over-compressed. Thanks to EuroGamer we've got very high res replacements.

Some readers are mad that the game is next gen only, but after looking at these images in high res, it's clear that it's the only way to make the game. Just look at how sharp and detailed the textures are and how far and how detailed Gotham in the distance is rendered. The game models have so much intricate detail that doing them in the previous/current gen consoles would be a huge disservice to the game.

Batman: Arkham Knight comes out later this year and is currently my number one reason I want to get a PS4.

Explosive Marvel, DC, and STAR WARS Portraits

$

Artist Florent Belmonte’s portraits of characters in the Marvel, DC, and Star Wars universes are absolutely astounding. The portraits were all created in Photoshop, but there’s this very interesting juxtaposition going on that makes the pieces feel tangible while also giving them this volatile energy. The razor blade-like cuts sketched around the characters flatten and restrain the image, but the carefully placed splatter makes it feel like the art is bubbling and about to burst off the “canvas.” It’s controlled chaos at its finest. I really hope Belmonte does a portrait of Bruce Banner/Hulk sometime, that character would really lend itself to the artist’s style.

Guillermo del Toro's THE STRAIN Has an Eerie New Promo

guillermo-del-toros-the-strain-has-a-new-creepy-promo-spot

FX has released a short, creepy new promo spot for Guillermo Del Toro's upcoming vampire TV series, The Strain. We could all use an insane new vampire story, and this could be it. The series is based on the book series that Del Toro worked on with author Chuck Hogan. It's a bioterror thriller about an outbreak in the U.S. of a virus that either kills those who are exposed to it or turns them into vampires. There's a lot of potential here for this to be an amazing series.

The tale is a high concept thriller that tells the story of “Dr. Ephraim Goodweather” (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City.  He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism.  As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

The series is set to debut this summer, and I hope it lives up to my expectations.

MAGIC MIKE XXL Joins the Summer 2015 Box Office Melee

$

In keeping with the tradition of celebrating our nation’s birth by grilling up a lot of weiners, Magic Mike XXL will grind and thrust its way into theaters on July 3, 2015, adding to the insanity of an already crowded summer release schedule. Magic Mike XXL will be going pec to pec with Terminator: Genesis, set to be released on July 1. I have a feeling they aren’t targeting the same audience, though.

Magic Mike was a surprise hit for Warner Bros., bringing in well over $150 million on a $7 million budget. But it was a pretty self-contained story, and without director Steven Soderbergh behind the camera, I don’t know if they can elevate the cliched and cheesy aspects as well as the first film did. Also, didn’t he quit stripping at the end? Is it going to be Magic Mike XXL: Return of the Thong? Dear Lord, I hope not. I guess here is where I should note that I hated Magic Mike. Turns out I really don’t enjoy the anxiety of feeling like I might miss an important plot point if I didn’t look at Matthew McConaughey’s ass.

Still, those of us who don’t want to watch Channing Tatum shake it like a polaroid picture again will have plenty of other options. In addition to the aforementioned Terminator movie, Jurassic World, The Fantastic Four, Ted 2, and Ant-Man will hit theaters in the surrounding weeks. And by July 3 you may even be all movie-ed out after having already seen Chappie, Fast and Furious 7, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Tomorrowland that spring. What I’m saying is, it’s a crowded release slate, and this sequel may have a hard time connecting among so much competition.

Chloë Moretz Goes Out-of-Body in First Trailer for IF I STAY

$
0
0

I’m so used to seeing Chloë Moretz either kicking ass as a masked vigilante or with extraordinary abilities in a horror remake (Let Me In, Carrie) that it’s always a bit jarring to see the young actress play a, you know, regular teenager. The trailer for If I Stay, an adaptation of Gayle Forman’s bestselling novel, features Moretz caressing the cello and canoodling with boys. If that’s all this story had to offer I wouldn’t have bothered posting that cloying stuff to a site dedicated to all things geek. I haven’t read Forman’s novel, so just as I was about to close the window for the trailer, the supernatural/other plane aspect of the film kicked in. Here’s the synopsis for the movie to give you a clue as to what’s in store for you so you don’t make the same mistake I almost did:

On a day that started like any other, Mia (Moretz) had everything: a loving family, an adoring boyfriend, and a bright future full of music. Suddenly, a family drive on a snowy day changes everything. In an instant, almost all of that is taken from her. Caught between life and death, Mia spends one critical day contemplating a future that is now more unknowable than ever. Is love enough to keep her here?

If I Stay looks and sounds a bit like Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones, which boasted a more famous cast and director, but ultimately fell flat with the critics and audiences. The Lovely Bones had brutal violence peppered into its remarkable imagery, while If I Stay looks to have a lighter and more consistent tone.

The film was directed by R.J. Cutler and also stars Mireille Enos, Jamie Blackley, and Joshua Leonard. It hits theaters August 22.
