21 JUMP STREET Sequel Already Being Written

The Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum 21 film Jump Street doesn't come out until March 16th, but that isn't stopping the studio from prepping for the sequel. The studio has given the thumbs up on a script that Hill is currently writing. Here's what he told E! at the Oscars:

We are writing the sequel now. We got [the greenlight] by the studio to start writing the sequel.

Hill went on to talk about the movie saying,

It's punk rock. It's total mayhem. It's two young-looking cops going to back to high school and they party with high school kids and go crazy.

I'd say it's the funniest movie I've ever been in—that and Superbad. It's like a two-hour or hour-and-a-half party.

I think that the movie looks funnier than I was expecting, so I'm looking forward to seeing it. It seems like Hollywood isn't waiting around these days to see if a movie does well before they start working on the sequel. I guess they just want to be prepared if they think it will be a big hit.

Does 21 Jump Street look like an entertaining film to you?

Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, and Ben Foster To Join Peter Berg's LONE SURVIVOR

Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, and Ben Foster are currently in talks to join Peter Berg's next film project, called Lone Survivor. If they are cast in the movie they would play three of four Navy SEALs, and just wait until you read about what it's about.

Lone Survivor will be an adaptation of the book by Marcus Luttrel which tells the harrowing true story "of how Luttrell and his Navy SEAL team members fought to stay alive after being ambushed in Afghanistan in 2005 by Taliban forces during a covert mission in the Hindu Kush mountain region, where the team went to kill a terrorist leader." According to Deadline, Wahlberg would play Luttrell in the film.

Berg is a huge supporter of the military, and I think he will be in his element making a movie like this. It looks like he did a great job with Battleship, and I thought The Kingdom was a solid film as well. I guess we have Bin Laden's death to thank for all of these upcoming Navy SEAL and military films. Berg gave a more detailed description of the story to Deadline in a previous interview saying,

Bin Laden’s death has cleared the way for this, a movie that will be an unapologetically patriotic film that honors and pays homage to an incredible group of badass guys who do this. The film will be a bit like Black Hawk Down, but it will focus on the quartet, which is fewer guys than that film.

The mission was similar to the assassination mission that got bin Laden, but things got complicated when they ran into three kids and an old man. Under the rules of engagement, they could have killed them, but they decided to let them go and take their chances, even though they knew these people would likely talk.

Shortly after, the mission had to be aborted when the SEALs found themselves under fire from about 250 Al-Qaeda soldiers. When the dust cleared — and after a rescue helicopter was blown up by a rocket-propelled grenade, 15 SEAL members were killed, and the lone survivor was Luttrell. A massive land assault was carried out, but by then Marcus was brought to shelter by an Afghan tribe that fought off the Taliban until Luttrell could be rescued. The team’s leader, Mike Murphy, was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

This sounds like a hell of a badass movie, that I would love to see. I also think that Wahlberg, Kitsch, and Foster would make a hell of a great team in a military movie like this! I'd like to see them get cast, but even if they're not, I'll still be just as excited about seeing the movie. It just sounds like such a great story.

What do you all think about this potential cast for the film?

Brian Kirk in Talks To Direct Robert Ludlum's THE OSTERMAN WEEKEND

Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire director Brian Kirk is currently in talks to direct the feature film adaptation of Robert Ludlum's novel The Osterman Weekend

The script for the film was written by Simon Kinberg and Jesse Wigutow, and the story sounds pretty awesome. I've read a few of Ludlum's novels over the years, but not this one. According to Deadline, the story is a conspiracy murder mystery that follows the man on the run. "On the eve of an annual weekend getaway with friends, John Tanner is visited by a reporter who tells him his friends aren’t who he thinks they are. When the reporter turns up dead, Tanner gets caught in downward spiral of doubt and paranoia and, ultimately, a desperate fight to stay alive long enough to figure out who he can trust and who’s out to kill him."

This would be the second time the book was adapted into a film. There was also a version made back in 1983 starring Rutger Haur, John Hurt, Craig T. Nelson, and Dennis Hopper. I've never seen the film, but with a cast like that, I just might have to check it out soon.

Kirk is currently developing a couple other projects such as Paper Wings at Sony with the possibility of Tom Cruise starring, as well as the Guillermo Del Toro-produced Universal Pictures film Midnight Delivery. I think this could also be a good project for him to take on, what are your thoughts?

Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz, and Andy Samberg To Join ONE HIT WONDERS

Ryan Murphy, the writer and producer of Glee, Nip/Tuck, and American Horror Story is developing a movie at Sony Pictures called One Hit Wonders. The studio made a seven figure deal with Murphy to develop the film, described as a musical comedy that he'll build around Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz, Beyonce, and Andy Samberg. Murphy will also direct the movie from a story he hatched with Paltrow, Witherspoon, and Diaz. Apparently they've all been looking to do a project together, and this is the one they decided on.

According to Deadline, "Paltrow, Witherspoon and Diaz will play three singers who each scored a top hit song in the 1990s before watching their careers go down the drain. They decide to form a super group. Samberg and his Lonely Island cohorts will be involved in generating music for the film."

Glee's Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan will co-write the script with Murphy, who will also produce along with Paltrow. Murphy is looking to direct the movie after he completes another project he's working on called The Normal Heart.

I enjoy watching the TV shows that Murphy has worked on over the years, but I have no idea what to expect from this. I guess if it turns out to be as entertaining as most of his shows, then it could be something to look forward to. What is your favorite TV series that Murphy has worked on, and what are your thoughts on this movie he's going to make?

Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men…all will play the Game of Thrones.

Dr. Seuss Books Humorously Re-imagined for Future Hollywood Films

With the big screen CG animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax coming out, io9 commissioned artist DrFaustusAU to create a series of funny cover art re-imagining some of Seuss' classic books that might make some fun Hollywood films.

As you may have heard already, according to FoxNews, The Lorax is brain washing our kids against capitalism. And for some reason The Lorax is also being used to help sell SUVs, which doesn't really make any kind of sense at all, as the story carries a heavy message about saving the environment.

Check out the new Dr. Seuss books below, and let us know which one of them you think would make for an good movie. The site also mentions that Zac Efron would be attached to each project. Head on over to io9 to see more.

Fossilized Five Foot Prehistoric Penguins Found In New Zealand

Guardian says archaeologists in New Zealand uncovered the first known bones of prehistoric penguins, giving the world an idea of the size of the penguins in the lost prehistoric film March of The Prehistoric Penguins. Unlike the water fowl of smaller stature, these penguins were about 5 ft tall and 130 lbs, giving it a full foot and some poundage over modern day emperor penguins.

Who doesn't appreciate a penguin? To celebrate this day we gathered some humorous penguin pics and of course a socially awkward penguin meme for your pleasure.

For those of you looking forward to continuing the bloody Piranha 3D feeding frenzy, here's the trailer for Piranha 3DD. The killer fish have plenty of boobies, butts, and other kinds of human flesh to fulfill their appetites. I wasn't the biggest fan of the first film, but it had its moments. I'm sure this one will as well, so I'll check it out.

The movie was directed by John Gulager and stars stars Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, Clu Gulager, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, and Paul Scheer.

Here's the Synopsis:

Having awoken from their spring break extravaganza at Lake Victoria, the swarm heads upstream where they look to make a meal out of Big Wet, a local water park where when it comes to fun, nobody does it wetter! Thought they came to get wet, get loaded and get some, the staff and patrons get more than they bargained for when they must face the fiercest, most bloodthirsty piranhas yet. Lead by the strong-willed, studious Maddy and her friends, Barry and Kyle, the trio must dive in and take on these man-eating creatures using every ounce of their being...but can they be stopped?

Are you excited for the return of the killer Piranhas?

It's been awhile since I posted anything from Robot Chicken, but here's a fun clip from the show featuring Twilight: The Game. It completely nails Bella's character.

I've also included one of their older Twilight skits just for more of a laugh.

FRANKENWEENIE - New Image Released for Tim Burton's Film

Above you'll find another great image from Tim Burton's highly anticipated black and white 3D stop-motion animated film Frankenweenie. It's an adaptation of a lovable live-action short film Burton made back in the 80s that Disney turned down because of its dark tone. Disney has since repented of their sin and are now producing the movie. It's great to see Burton come back to revisit these characters that he created so long ago. The trailer is set to be released tomorrow so stay tuned!

Here the plot synopsis:

After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor's fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new "leash on life" can be monstrous.

Frankenweenie features the voices of Winona RyderMartin LandauMartin ShortCatherine O'HaraConchata Farrell, and Tom Kenny, will be released in Disney Digital 3D, Real D 3D, and IMAX 3D on October 5th.

Vintage 1978 STAR WARS Lightsaber Toy Commercial

I love the old school Star Wars toys, but as you will see in this vintage 1982 Star Wars lightsaber commercials, they've come a long way. I owned one of these lightsaber toys sometime in the 1980s. I love how that they have to point out in the ad that you can "pretend to have powers" as if the lightsaber was actually going to give us powers of the force, and then the kids are attacking balloons. We all know in real life they would be beating each other with those sabers, blindly swinging at each other in the dark. Enjoy the commercial!

Did you ever own one of these oldschool lightsabers?

Batman Dances With Android Robots, Then Gets Rejected By Batgirl

I'm not really sure what to make of this. There's Batman, smart phone mascots, a rejected proposal, dancing, and a lame MC struggling to keep a freestyle going. For all intents and purposes, this video should have been awesome. So why do I feel so awkward? Other questions you might want to ponder...

  • Why did someone film this?
  • How many people at Intel lost thier jobs after this debacle?
  • What woman wouldn't want to be proposed to after being "party-boyed" by cylindrical green aliens?
  • Why are there cosplayers at a phone event?

 I can only guess.

The first name in adventure is finally on Blu-Ray! Comingsoon reports that Steven Spielberg and George Lucas' quadrilogy of Indiana Jones films--Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull--is coming to Blu-Ray in 2012! This news follows Spielberg's confirmation that Blu-Ray editions of Jaws and E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial are in the works. Crystal Skull has previously been available on Blu-ray, but this marks the first time that Raiders, Temple, and Crusade have appeared in the format.

Though no specifications or cover-art have been released, here is the announcement from Paramount:

The man with the hat is back – and looking better than ever! The world’s favorite globe-trotting archaeologist is, at long last, embarking on his greatest adventure – when "The Complete Indiana Jones Blu-ray Collection" comes to Blu-ray Disc from Lucasfilm Ltd. and Paramount Home Media Distribution. The Complete Indiana Jones Blu-ray Collection will be excavated in the fall of 2012 and will include all four of Indy’s thrilling adventures, using the highest possible high definition picture and audio presentation – along with a “best of” collection of documentaries, interviews, featurettes and a few new surprises.

Will you be buying the set or waiting to see if the original trilogy of films will be sold separately on Blu-ray a la Star Wars?

Tim Burton Talks DARK SHADOWS

$
0
0

2012 seems to be the year of Tim Burton, with three projects carrying his name. He is directing two films - Dark Shadows and Frankenweenie - and producing one, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. His first film of the year, Dark Shadows, is coming out May 11th (so far with no poster, no trailer, few photos and little publicity other than the names of Tim Burton and star Johnny Depp). Burton was interviewed by horror magazine HorrorHound and discussed the film.

On why he took the film, Burton said, "The reason I liked Dark Shadows was that it was a weird family story. It just happened to have supernatural qualities to it." When asked if the film will be marketed as a comedy (similarly to Burton's Beetlejuice), Burton responded with confusion, "It's news to me... I always start things with the most serious of intentions. I sometimes find humour in things that aren't funny and vice versa."

One of the notable things about Dark Shadows is the look of Johnny Depp's character, Barnabas Collins. Depp is known for his strange characters in Burton's films from Edward Scissorhands to Alice in Wonderland. When asked about Barnabas' appearance, Burton said, "We wound up with a nod to [original actor] Jonathan Frid's Barnabas. Because of the sensitive nature of the character, I liked the idea of his fingernails being long, a bit more tactile."

Burton came under fire after the release of Alice in Wonderland for overuse of visual effects, and he has apparently been listening to his critics, saying Dark Shadows uses effects only when it needs to. "I want to rely on the characters... We were trying to keep it as human and personal as possible. Every effect should not seem like an effect." Will Burton and Depp rise from the Dark again or will they be lost in the Shadows?
