Simon Pegg To Voice Bounty Hunter Dengar in STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS

Simon Pegg just landed an incredibly cool role as the bounty hunter Dengar in Star Wars: The Clone Wars! Pegg will be providing the voice of the character. I don't know if you remember who Dengar is or not, but he makes a brief appearance in The Empire Strikes Back. He's the mummy-wrapped bounty hunter who meets with Darth Vader along with Bobba Fett and the rest of the bounty hunters to track down the Millennium Falcon. As many of you already know, Pegg is a huge Star Wars fan, so this should be a great experience. Here's what he had to say about the character in a statement:

Dengar is one of the elite. If you're on Darth Vader's bounty hunter speed dial you are the best in the galaxy. It was a total honor to play this mysterious, hard man from my favorite Star Wars movie.

In the episode titled Bounty, Asajj Ventress ends up teaming with a group of bounty hunters, including Dengar, Bossk, and Boba Fett. Head over to EW.com to see a clip from the episode, as Dengar and Ventress find themselves under attack by galactic ninjas.

Ed Helms Might Star in New VACATION Reboot!

It was recently reported that Horrible Bosses writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are writing the script and will direct the reboot/sequel to the classic 80s comedy Vacation, starring Chevy Chase. The new film will follow Clark Griswold’s son Rusty, who's all grown up with a family of his own, as he takes them on a vacation just like Dad did.

Well, it looks like New Line has found their new Rusty Griswald. According to Perez Hilton, The Office's Ed Helms is at the top of their list, which I think is a great choice! Helms is perfect for this world of family nutjobs. The site specifically say Helms is “in the lead to take over the National Lampoon reigns.”

The studio is hoping to turn this into a big comedic franchise, and if Helms is cast it will definitely help its chances. I love the original Vacation films, and all I can hope for is that Chase will be back to reprise his role. It would also be amazing if they were able to work cousin Eddie in the story as well!

What are your thought's on Helms possibly taking over this franchise as Clark's son Rusty?

WonderCon 2012 just got a hell of a lot more awesome with the addition of two new movie panels! There will also be a panel for Marc Webb's incredible looking reboot of The Amazing Spider-Man, and they will be showing 8-minutes of footage for that bad boy. Both these films are on my Top 10 list of most anticipated movies of 2012, so I'm excited as hell to be able to see some new footage from them!

These panels will take place during the Sony presentation on Saturday, March 17th between 4:15 and 5:30. To see the full WonderCon schedule Click Here. Will you be attending WonderCon this year?

Geek Casting: THE COLONY and PERCY JACKSON Sequel News

In today's geek casting roundup we have some news about The Colony and Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Sea of Monsters

Deadline reports that Kevin Zegers has been cast in The Colony, and will star opposite Laurence Fishburne and Bill PaxtonJeff Renfroe is directing the independent film, which he co-wrote with Patrick Tarr and Pascal Trottier.

The story follows "a small group of survivors in the aftermath of a future Ice Age who live underground fighting for their lives in a society that disintegrates into cannibalism and violence." Zegers just finished shooting the 12-part miniseries Titanic: Blood & Steel alongside Chris Noth, Derek Jacobi, and Neve Campbell. The actor has also appeared in Transamerica and 50 Dead Men Walking, in which he starred with Ben Kingsley and Jim Sturgess

THR reports that The Artist's Missi Pyle, Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), and Mary Birdsong will play the "three fates" in Fox 2000's sequel, which is being directed by Thor Fruedenthal. Logan Lerman will once again play Percy, and both Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jason are set to reprise their roles. Christopher Columbus, who directed the first installment, will serve as producer.

I mildly enjoyed the first Percy Jackson movie and am excited to see it under the direction of Freudenthal. The Colony sounds like a cool movie, and Zegers will do just fine in the role. What would you do to survive an Ice Age?

TOUCHBACK Trailer - Time Traveling Football Drama with Kurt Russell

I don't know about you, but I've always enjoyed watching Kurt Russell's films. I'm surprised we don't see him in the movies more these days. He stars as a high school football coach in the new sports centered inspirational film called Touchback. Which follows the story of a washed-up high school quarterback with a bum leg who is sent back in time, where he gets the opportunity to replay his final high school game. It's here he has the opportunity to change the way his life turned out. "Will he avoid the injury that ended his promising career or will he choose the route that lead to his small town life?" It's kind of a silly story, but there's room in the world for inspirational films that might make us feel good, even if they are illogical. Watch the trailer and tell us what you think.

Kristen Wiig Attached to Action Comedy From DESCENDANTS Scribes

Kristen Wiig is attached to a new action comedy from the writers of The Descendants. Variety reports that Nat Faxon and Jim Rash have sold the film rights to Indian Paintbrush. The original concept will be produced by Kevin Walsh via his banner, the Walsh Co., along with Indian Paintbrush's Steven Rales and Mark Roybal. Faxon and Rash are also serving as executive producers. Wiig's deal is not officially final, but she has a strong relationship with Faxon and Rash that goes back to their days performing with Los Angeles improv troupe the Groundlings. Faxon and Walsh are currently writing a another script for Fox Searchlight and Alexander Payne. The duo will make their directorial debut this summer with The Way, Way Back, starring Sam Rockwell and Allison Janney. Rash also stars in NBC's Community, and Faxon was recently cast as the co-lead in the Fox comedy pilot Ned Fox is My Manny.
There are few details available at this time, but when they become available we will let you know. I am interested in seeing more of Wiig in other comedies and think that an action-comedy sounds like a perfect fit. What are your thoughts on this news?

Heath Ledger on the Set of THE DARK KNIGHT

Here's a collection of never before seen photos of Heath Ledger as the Joker on the set of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. The images come from make-up artist John Caglione Jr. One of the photos (pictured above) comes from the last day Ledger was on the set.

I don't think Ledger's Joker will ever be topped. What he did with this iconic villain was incredible, and as you know, it won him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He took this character to a terrifying level of insanity.

Check out the behind the scenes images below and tell us what you think. I'm sure that one day we'll see the Joker up on the big screen again being played by another actor. If that does happen, who do you think could actually pull it off? Do you think that there's an actor that could do a better job?

Here is the first trailer for Richard Linklater's Bernie. The dark comedy is based on a true story. It stars Jack Black as an assistant funeral director who plots to kill an older wealthy widow. The supporting cast includes Matthew McConaughey and Shirley MacLaine

Synopsis:

In the tiny, rural town of Carthage, TX, assistant funeral director Bernie Tiede was one of the town’s most beloved residents.  He taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Everyone loved and appreciated Bernie, so it came as no surprise when he befriended Marjorie Nugent, an affluent widow who was as well known for her sour attitude as her fortune. Bernie frequently traveled with Marjorie and even managed her banking affairs. Marjorie quickly became fully dependant on Bernie and his generosity and Bernie struggled to meet her increasing demands. Bernie continued to handle her affairs, and the townspeople went months without seeing Marjorie. The people of Carthage were shocked when it was reported that Marjorie Nugent had been dead for some time, and Bernie Tiede was being charged with the murder.

Bernie arrives in theaters on April 27th. It has been a bit since Black has been in a truly funny film. Linklater looks to have crafted solid film that shows off the talents of the cast. What is your favorite Jack Black film to date?

TOP GUN 2 Script To Be Written by THE TOWN Scribe

$

Paramount Pictures is moving forward with Top Gun 2, and they've hired The Town screenwriter Peter Craig to take a crack at writing the script. I am one of the few people that thought The Town turned out like a student film; I didn't really care for it.

As for Top Gun 2, it's a completely different kind of film and it could be a good project for Craig to work on. The movie is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and will end up being a big tent pole spectacle that I'm sure will make a ton of money.

Craig will replace Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class), who were originally hired to write the script but apparently never wrote anything. So it looks like Craig has a blank canvas to work with.

As of right now there are no plot details, but Tony Scott and Tom Cruise are expected to return to it in some compactly. The studio is very serious about the film, and it sounds like it's actually going to get made.

Where do you think the story should go with this sequel?

Jared Hess to Direct Disney's THE PET

Coming off of the success of the Napoleon Dynamite animated series on FOX, writer/director Jared Hess is planning a return to the silver screen, teaming for the first time with Walt Disney Pictures. Hess' next project will be the sci-fi family comedy adventure The Pet.

The film is centered on an ordinary man who is abducted by aliens and made the "family pet." Apparently, the film has been a "pet project" (no pun intended) for Academy Award-winning producer Scott Rudin and director David Silverman (The Simpsons Movie, Monsters, Inc.). Previous writers include Matt Lieberman (Short Circuit) and Tim Downing (This Means War), though Hess is expected to take over writing duties as well as to direct the film. I know this idea is nothing new because I read this same story as a book. I tried looking for the name of it, but I can't find it. All I know is that it wasn't a man, it was a boy, and the aliens were giant dogs. That's all I remember.

However, I am glad to see that Disney is now starting to hire talented directors for their projects - Sam Raimi (Oz: The Great and Powerful), Shane Black (Iron Man 3), Edgar Wright (The Night Stalker), Jon Favreau (Magic Kingdom), and Guillermo del Toro (The Haunted Mansion). I know that a Jungle Cruise movie is in the works with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to star, and I think it would be cool to get John Lasseter to direct it because nobody knows the ride better than he does (and he's worked with both actors already). Will Hess be able to keep this movie on a leash or should this Pet be put down?

THE HUNGER GAMES - New 1-Minute TV Spot

Lionsgate has released this new 1-minute TV spot for there highly anticipated adaptation of The Hunger Games. The trailer focuses on the early part of the story and features the song Safe & Sound by Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars. I'm looking forward to seeing this film in action; we have yet to see some of the best and most exciting parts of this story.

Heres' the synopsis:

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which "Tributes" must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

The Hunger Games was directed by Gary Ross and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks, Josh Hutcherson, Amandla Stenberg, Liam Hemsworth, Alexander Ludwig, Woody Harrelson, and Lenny Kravitz. It's scheduled to be released on March 23rd, 2012.

Tim Burton's FRANKENWEENIE Trailer Released!

After making the box office blockbuster Alice in Wonderland, director Tim Burton is bringing one of his oldest projects back to life (in more ways than one) with the new 3D stopmotion animated film, Walt Disney Pictures' Frankenweenie

The film's plot synopsis reads:

After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor's fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new "leash on life" can be monstrous.

I think the trailer is really, really good (other than the mother's schmaltzy "they never go away, they're still here in your heart" speech and the use of too familiar Danny Elfman themes). It really recaptures the heart from the original live-action short from 1984 and looks like a lot of fun. Is Burton's "pet project" alive or should it be reburied?

THE HOBBIT - Benedict Cumberbatch Talks About Working on the Film

There's no doubt in my mind that Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is going to end up being an epically wonderful film. This is one of my favorite books of all time and to actually see it being brought to life by the same team that made The Lord of the Rings is incredible. There was a chance that this movie could have never happened.

Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays two roles in the film, recently did a little interview with MTV and talked about working on the film and how much fun it was saying,

I was very lucky [to work] with Pete. As far as the experience, what an extraordinary one it was because at the time I was in my work; I was in isolation with him and this incredible tag team. And at the very cool place with that technology doing mo-cap for two characters, Smaug the dragon and another character, which will remain nameless, and it was an awful lot of fun.

It's a sort of wonderful ongoing process, I spent a lot of time recording voice as well as doing movements. So, it was sort of freeing; it was fun. It was like playing a game. It's going to be an amazing film; it's going to be a real treat. I watched 'The Lord of the Rings' again before I started working, and the way those films grow in depth of craft on every level are extraordinary. Their mark is for that.

He went on to admit that he had a hard time on set keeping a straight face when he saw his friend and Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman in costume as Bilbo Baggins. With a grin on his face he said,

It was great. I got to hang out with him, and I kept a straight face for a bit and then I started giggling because I know Martin, I don't know Bilbo. For Martin to be sitting there playing Bilbo is amazing. He's going to be amazing, he's going to be fantastic in this film.

I absolutely loved what I saw in the the first trailer that was released. And I can't wait to see more. I especially can't wait to see some more of the visual effects that are being created for the movie. The least we can expect of this film is epic. Jackson is going to give the fans everything they want to see and more.

Video of Steven Spielberg Watching the 1976 Oscar Nominations for JAWS

Steven Spielberg is one of the biggest, most talented, and most respected directors and producers in the film industry. The guy has created some incredible films in his career, but it was his classic movie Jaws that put him on the map and launched his directing career to a whole new level of the Universe.

Jaws was nominated for four Academy Awards in 1976 including Best Editing, Best Score, Best Sound, and Best Picture. They were hoping for 11. It ended up winning the first three categories, but lost the Best Picture to One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which is hard to argue with as it's one of my favorite films of all time.

But here is a video showing us a rare glimpse of the director with his friends, colleagues, and family as he watches the 1976 Academy Award nominations. He seemed pretty disappointed he didn't get the nomination for Best Director. Watch the video and tell us what you think? Should the young Spielberg have been nominated for Best Director? Do you think Jaws should have won Best Picture?
