HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON Animated Series Trailers

$

About a year ago, it was announced that DreamWorks would be teaming up with Cartoon Network to bring us a TV series based on the hit CGI-animated movie How to Train Your Dragon. The first two trailers for the new series have been released, and it looks like it has potential to be a decent series that the kids will enjoy.

How to Train Your Dragon, based on the book by Cressida Cowell, rolls fire-breathing action, epic adventure and laughs into a captivating and original story. Hiccup is a young Viking who defies tradition when he befriends one of his deadliest foes — a ferocious dragon he calls Toothless. Together, the unlikely heroes must fight against all odds to save both of their worlds.

In the How to Train Your Dragon television series on Cartoon Network, the characters and worlds originally created for the big screen will be explored and further developed in a number of exciting ways that will be revealed over time. TV audiences will be taken on original, new adventures with Hiccup and Toothless every week.

I'm not sure if this series will connect with the future sequels that DreamWorks Animation is working on. I have heard that the sequel to How To Train Your Dragon is shaping up to be better than the first one. Check out the trailers, and tell us what you think! Is this a series you might enjoy seeing?

Warner Bros. has released a couple new action-packed TV spots for their Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles) directed film Wrath of the Titans. The spots do contain some new footage that some of you might like to see. I guess it all depends on if you're excited for the movie or not.

The film stars Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson, Danny Huston, Edgar Ramiez, Bill Nighy, Toby Kebbell, and Rosamund PikeThe titans' wrath will be unleashed on the world March 30th, 2012... are you getting more excited about this movie?

Here's the Synopsis:

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington) --the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson)--is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity's lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus' godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans' strength grows stronger as Zeus' remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon's demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Oscar Winning Animated Short - THE FANTASTIC FLYING BOOKS OF MR. MORRIS LESSMORE

It was a surprise that Pixar was beat out for the Best Animated Short during the 84th Academy Awards this last Sunday. They always seem to have the best chance of winning everything they are nominated for, but not this time around. This year Pixar's La Luna was beat out by The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore by a couple of lively animators from Louisiana named William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg, and it's now available to watch online in its entirety. The film is great, and after having seen it I can see why it won. Here's a description of the film from their official website:

Inspired in equal measures, by Hurricane Katrina, Buster Keaton, The Wizard of Oz, and a love for books, "Morris Lessmore" is a story of people who devote their lives to books and books who return the favor. The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is a poignant, humorous allegory about the curative powers of story. Using a variety of techniques (miniatures, computer animation, 2D animation), award-winning author/illustrator William Joyce and Co-director Brandon Oldenburg present a hybrid style of animation that harkens back to silent films and M-G-M Technicolor musicals. "Morris Lessmore" is old-fashioned and cutting edge at the same time.

The short is extremely well-made, and who knows? Maybe Pixar will one day hire these two guys to work with them on a film someday. Watch the 15-minute short below, and let us know what you think!

It will be interesting to see some shots from the movie itself. At least we get an idea of how Timberlake is styling his hair. For more images click here. What do you think is the best Coen Brothers movie?

THE AVENGERS - First Official Poster Released!

After many months of waiting and countless fan-made posters, Marvel Studios has released the first official poster for this summer's superhero epic The Avengers. The film stars a massive cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom HiddlestonSamuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg and is directed by Joss Whedon.

I have to say, I'm not particularly impressed. The Photoshop use in this poster is completely undeniable; not the best first impression for people who want to see these supeheroes together. Is it really that hard to get ALL the actors together for a promo shoot? Oh well. I'm still excited for the movie. Are you ready to see the Avengers assemble?

Here's a funny piece of Geek Art called Nick Fury's Boy Band (with Black Widow). It was created by artist Berry Presh, and it features The Avengers doing a musical number. I know Joss Whedon is into musicals, but I don't think we'll be seeing one in the upcoming movie. I love how the Hulk is sad he isn't a part of it.

Would you like to see Whedon throw a musical number into The Avengers?

PROMETHEUS - Peter Weyland Viral Video

Here is a cool viral video promo for Ridley Scott's Prometheus. The video features Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland, a character very familiar to fans of the Alien film series.

You can watch the video below featuring Weyland at the 2023 TED Conference (an annual convention dedicated to human innovation currently happening in Long Beach, California) and visit www.weylandindustries.com to check out a future that has been built on his words and an explanation of the title Prometheus.

The official bio for Weyland reads as follows:

Sir Peter Weyland was born in Mumbai, India at the turn of the Millennium. The progeny of two brilliant parents; His mother, an Oxford Educated Professor of Comparative Mythology, his father, a self-taught software Engineer, it was clear from an early age that Sir Peter’s capabilities would only be eclipsed by his ambition to realize them. By the age of fourteen, he had already registered a dozen patents in a wide range of fields from biotech to robotics, but it would be his dynamic break-throughs in generating synthetic atmosphere above the polar ice cap that gained him worldwide recognition and spawned an empire.

In less than a decade, Weyland Corporation became a worldwide leader in emerging technologies and launched the first privatized industrial mission to leave the planet Earth. “There are other worlds than this one,” Sir Peter boldly declared, “And if there is no air to breathe, we will simply have to make it.”

Peter Weyland has been a magnet for controversy since he announced his intent to build the first convincingly humanoid robotic system by the end of the decade.

Whether challenging the ethical boundaries of medicine with nanotechnology or going toe to toe with the Vatican itself on the issue of gene-therapy sterilization, Sir Peter prides himself on his motto, “If we can, we must.” After a three year media blackout, Weyland has finally emerged to reveal where he’s heading next. Wherever that may be, we will most certainly want to follow.

The viral video below was conceived and designed by Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof, and the footage was directed by Luke Scott. This video may not be included in the final cut of the film, but Weyland's hubris will have a major effect on the world of the film. Does this video give you any clues about Prometheus?

THE AVENGERS - Actors Discuss Fun Details About Their Characters

$

0

Looks like this will be a big news week for The Avengers. Today a new movie poster was unveiled for the film, and on Wednesday we are going to get another new trailer, which I can't wait to see! Hopefully it ends up blowing us away like the Super Bowl spot that Marvel previously released.

Oh, by the way! The new poster above is an International UK poster, and the name of the movie has been changed in the UK to Avengers Assemble for some reason.

We now bring you a nice little collection of interviews from the actors that are starring in the film as they go into a bit of details about the characters they play. The interviews were conducted by Entertainment Weekly and you can see what they all had to say below...

Robert Downey Jr. on Iron Man:

He's trying to keep the character that he and Jon Favreau created in in Iron Man I and II.

"I’m still trying to, without moving backwards, remember the character that [Iron Man and Iron Man 2 director] Jon Favreau and I created, and be true to that."

It’s also important to be true to the original Marvel Comics history, but Downey acknowledges that they’ve had to streamline their vision over the years as the possibility of this movie loomed.

"Avengers has always been this kind of hovering [thing]. Is it really possible? I just think that it was an incredibly ambitious notion, and looking back at Marvel and their fledgling years, they always had a vision of this … although not entirely accurately.”

Downey laughs: “In one teaser I say, ‘I’m putting a team together,’ and in the other one I’m like, ‘What do you mean I can’t join the team?’ But aside from that, it kind of really tracks through.”

Chris Hemsworth on Thor:

The Avengers are all misfits.

There’s a maturity to the character because of the journey he went on, certainly. He was a petulant sort of kid at the beginning of Thor, and by the end of it hopefully you walk away thinking that he is matured and there was a grounded quality to him that wasn’t there before.

There are certainly moments where Thor says things and there’s a sideways glance from everybody: ‘What the hell is this guy talking about?’

He’s not quite the odd one out as much as he was in Thor. These guys … one of them wears an iron suit, one of them turns into a big, green monster. They all have these crazy personalities, and alter egos. They’re misfits, and that’s how they fit, in a funny way.

Chris Evans on Captain America:

Cap's a lonely soul.

“I don’t want to ruin anything, but the few people [Steve Rogers knew] who may be alive are probably in their 80’s, and for the most part, everyone is gone. He never had much family before, but anyone he could possibly consider close has gone by the wayside.”

If there’s one word that describes Cap in The Avengers, Evans says it would be “lonely.”

“Who does he have in the world? Nobody, Rogers is kind of defined by is his morals and values. In the ‘40s there was much more of value on those things. Things are a little more impersonal these days. It just lends itself to his sense of isolation.”

Mark Ruffalo on The Hulk:

Banner has an addiction problem.

Ruffalo says Banner is a reluctant part of the team, and said his metamorphosis is as painful to the character as an addiction problem – even if he can sometimes be used for good.

“The rage is something that is like going on a binger — you wake up after a blackout and you did all this f—ed up shit. Oh God, what did I do? And so we were talking about it like that, actually. At the beginning of The Avengers, “[Banner] starts like he’s sober in a weird way. He’s started a whole new life when we find him, and it’s cool. Things don’t stay that way, of course."

Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye:

The lone warrior.

One of just a few regular humans on The Avengers team, the superpower possessed by Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye is simply innate: He has a natural skill as a sharpshooter. The bow and arrow is his weapon of choice.

“I’m on such the periphery. By nature of being a sniper on top of a building, the behavior of a sniper is a loner. He gets a call and comes and does his thing.”

Scarlett Johansson on Black Widow:

You don't want to touch her because she's deadly sexy.

Johansson said that while Black Widow tries to be just another member of the team, the actress was aware of being the lone female in a cast full of boys.

“Occasionally it does come up where I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I’m the only girl in a group of 15 stunt men and seven cast,’ But I’m hanging in there. It’s fun.”

“The Widow has no time for romance. She’s a lover of all things. She has a love/hate relationship with I think everyone she meets in some way.”

Those intimidating qualities are key to the character’s appeal. “Part of what makes her sexy is she takes no prisoners. You wouldn’t grab her for a big old bear hug.“

What do you all think about what the actors had to say about their characters?

Mike Tyson Confirmed For THE HANGOVER III

The Hangover Part III is slated to start filming this summer for a May 24, 2013 release. Comingsoon reports (via The Boxing Blog) that Mike Tyson will once again star in the comedy. He will join the Wolfpack of Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis.

No plot details have been released yet for The Hangover Part III, but director Todd Phillips indicated last year that it was his intention to end the series with this third film.
Obviously we always envisioned it as a trilogy. The third would be very much a finale and an ending... I haven't discussed it with these actors yet. [It would] not follow the same template, but is very much a new idea.
Stay tuned for more news on this film as it becomes available. I like this franchise and am glad that Tyson will star again. I hope Ken Jeong returns as well to make the film complete. Would you like to see Mike Tyson in more film roles?

Marc Forster Directing COWBOY NINJA VIKING For Universal

$

Marc Forster has found his next directing project after World War Z. Deadline reports that Universal Pictures has bought the rights to the graphic novel Cowboy Ninja Viking and that Forster is set to helm. Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese penned the script, which was initially slated for Disney to develop. Universal stepped in when the project was deemed too edgy and hopes to spawn a franchise.

Cowboy Ninja Viking is based on the Image Comics graphic novel by AJ Lieberman and artist Riley Rossmo. The title character comes from "a secret government program to turn schizophrenics into assassins. The protagonist comes through the program with the skill sets of a cowboy, ninja and a viking. While most of the patients involved in the program are sent back to insane asylum after the program went awry in Iraq, he escapes and uses his skills to track down the billionaire who masterminded the program."

Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Mark Gordon, and Bryan Zuriff are producing the project through MG360, the joint venture between Mark Gordon Productions and Management 360. This marks the second graphic novel project to be picked up by Universal after being dropped by Disney. Joseph Kosinski's apocalyptic thriller Oblivion is set to begin production starring Tom Cruise

This sounds like a cool and interesting concept. World War Z is a movie I am looking forward to seeing. Do you think that Forster is a good director for this graphic novel adaptation?

DOOMSDAY BOOK Trailer - Kim Jee-woon's Sci-Fi Anthology

The director of The Good The Bad The Weird and I Saw the Devil, Kim Jee-woon, has produced and directed a new sci-fi thriller called Doomsday Book, which is a a three-part anthology about the end of the world. He's making the film with Yim Pil-sung (Hansel & Gretel). Each director took on one segment of the film, and then they collaborated on the the third.

Jee-woon directed a segment called Heaven’s Creation, "about a robot who gains consciousness and the absurdity that follows." Pil-sung directed The New Generation, "a clever action film told from the point of view of a boy who has become a zombie, this segment explores how humans lose control of planet Earth, becoming mere food for a different species." The third film is called The Christmas Gift, which was originally
"a musical movie that re-interprets the beautiful love story 'The Christmas Gift' by O Henry, this project confronts the basic instincts of a woman and her last chance to survive after witnessing the end of the world." I assume that ended up being the final film in the series.
The movie looks great; of course, I enjoy watching the director's work.

Here's an official description of the film:

Two acclaimed Korean directors unfurl three unique stories of human self-destruction in the modern high-tech era. In a hope to restore the humane compassion in the insusceptible modern age, the film displays an alternative form of genuine humanity. And thus you are stepping into the world of future, where a series of unexpected stories awaits you. All these stories originate from the earth. From the very earth you live on.

THE LONE RANGER Officially Goes into Production

$

Disney's biggest gamble of 2013, Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger, has officially gone into production. There was a point I didn't think this movie would actually happen, but here it is. Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer will lead the pack of actors into the wild west.

The reason I say this movie is a gamble is because Disney is spending $216 million dollars to make the movie, and no Western in the history of cinema has ever made that much money. The highest grossing western of all time is Dances With Wolves, and that only brought in $184 million. I can't believe Disney is pumping this kind of money into a western, because I don't think it's going to make that kind of money back in theaters. Hell, Favreau's Cowboy & Aliens only made a little over $100 million and that mixed both sci-fi and western elements! That should have been a blockbuster, and it wasn't.

Do you think the movie will make its money back? Do you think Depp wields that kind of power?

Here's the synopsis for the movie:

The Lone Ranger is a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

Here's the full press released with all of the details:

DISNEY AND JERRY BRUCKHEIMER FILMS’ EPIC ADVENTURE “THE LONE RANGER” BEGINS PRODUCTION

Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Gore Verbinski has enjoyed tremendous box office success as the innovative director of both character-driven franchises and thoughtful genre-bending fare.  Most recently, Verbinski released his first animated film, the smash hit “Rango,” starring Johnny Depp. Grossing over $240 million worldwide, the film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film, as well as BAFTA and Annie awards, and received Golden Globe® and PGA nominations. On television, Bruckheimer had an unprecedented 10 television series airing in the 2005-6 season, a record in the medium for an individual producer. JBTV’s series include “C.S.I.: Crime Scene Investigation” and its spinoffs “C.S.I.: Miami,” “C.S.I.: NY” and “Without a Trace,” “Cold Case” and the eight-time Emmy® Award-winner “The Amazing Race.”

Elizabeth Olson Offered Lead Female Role in OLDBOY Remake

According to a recent report from Twitch, rising star Elizabeth Olsen has been offered the lead female role in Spike Lee's remake of Oldboy. Olson is a very talented actress and starred in last year's Martha Marcy May Marlenethe upcoming horror thriller Silent House, and Red Lights. This woman is going to end up being a big star soon. Olson is the younger sister of the famous Olsen twins, she's just much more talented.

As previously reported, both Rooney Mara and Mia Wasikowska were offered the same role but turned it down. As much as I like those actresses, I think Olsen will be great in the role. If she accepts the part, she will join Josh Brolin who plays “a man imprisoned against his will and with no explanation for years before he is released and sets out to find and take revenge on his captor.” Christian Bale, Colin Firth, and Clive Owen have all been mentioned sought after to play the villain, but as far as I know at this point they've all turned it down as well.

I kind of hope she takes the role. I would love for this remake to be good, but I don't see how it can turn out better the Chan-wook Park adaptation. It will still be interesting to see Lee's vision of the story. I'm just happy that at least Brolin is in it.

What are your thoughts on Olson possibly being cast in the film?

It's a sad day for all of us Ghostbusters fans. After all this time of wondering and waiting to see if Bill Murray would be involved with Ghostbusters 3, it's all come to an end... and the answer is no.

Dan Aykroyd has confirmed that Murray will not reprise his role as Dr. Peter Venkman. Let us at this time take a moment of silence and shed a tear.

Aykroyd announced the sad news in an interview with the Telegraph in which he said...

At this point it's in suspended animation. The studio, the director Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis feel there must be a way to do it, but Bill Murray will not do the movie.

Damn.

He doesn't want to be involved. He's got six kids, houses all over America. He golfs in these tournaments where they pay him to turn up and have a laugh. He's into this life and living it. I know we'd have a lot of fun [but] I can't be mad at him. He's a friend first, a colleague second. We have a deep personal relationship that transcends business and he doesn't want to know.

Damn. Murray is obviously enjoying the sweet life of doing what ever the hell he wants, when he wants. Now we previously heard that if he didn't do the movie there was a possibility that he would be replaced, which would be ridiculous. When confronted with this concern Akroyd said,

We're not going to do a movie that exploits the franchise. The script has to be perfect. I'm the cheerleader, but I'm only one voice in the matter. It's a surety that Bill Murray will not do the movie, however there is still interest from the studio.

Damn and damn. If Murray won't do it, I just say scrap the project. There is no Ghostbusters without Venkman. As much as I would love to see these character return to the big screen, it would mean nothing to me without Murray.

I don't think this movie is getting made. What do you think about all this?
