Gary Oldman in Talks for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII?

Since Star Wars: Episode VII was announced we've heard a milllion casting rumors, but nothing has been confirmed. I don't think there will be any kind of confirmation until the full cast is locked in and LucasFilm unleashes everything at once. The most recent rumors include Breaking Bad star Jesse Plemons, Matt Smith, and Benedict Cumberbatch being involved with the movie.

Now is looks like Gary Oldman is in the mix. In a recent interview with Sky News, the actor was asked if he had any interest in joining the new film, and this is what he told them,

"They've called, yeah. I'm more cynical about it (casting) now, I believe it when I'm on the plane home. You know, the deal isn't done (until then). But yeah, they've inquired."

It definitely sounds like he's been in talks with them, and that there's a chance he will be in the film. Oldman is awesome in everything that he does, so of course it would be amazing to see him be a part of the Star Wars universe.

The movie will be directed by J.J. Abrams, who has co-written the film with Lawrence Kasdan. The film is rumored to focus on a new generation of heroes and will most likely include appearances by original cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford. They are expected to start shooting soon, and it will hit theaters on December 18th, 2015.

Details on Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

I was incredibly surprised and excited to hear that Jesse Eisenberg was cast in Zack Snyder's Batman Vs. Superman. I thought the choice was inspired. Not everyone is happy with his casting, but wait and see what they actually have planned for him. Maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't, but I think Eisenberg is going to be awesome as Lex.

Our friends at Latino-Review got their hands on some details on what Lex Luthor will be like in the film and some huge plot points. Maybe they managed to answer some of the questions you have. Of course, there are potential MAJOR SPOILERS in the following information if they are true.

SPOILERS
SPOILERS
SPOILERS

Here are the major points that they were revealed:

  • Lex Luthor will have a bald head.
  • Lex has a detailed sleeve tattoo of the Metropolis skyline on his right arm.
  • Lex is the richest man on the planet and was a self-made billionaire at 18.
  • Lex is obviously the CEO of Lexcorp
  • He is a tech genius, a ruthless business man, and former Metropolis street tough.
  • At 14 Lex was living on the streets and was initiated into a street gang.
  • By 15 he was running the street gang.
  • According to Lex, the act of resolving is better than strength.
  • Behind Lex's eyes "burn the fires of unparalleled genius. A powerful intellect enabling him to accomplish anything he bends his will toward. In the boundaries of his mind he is godlike but not a God."
  • Lex is introduced early on in the story when Bruce Wayne visits him at his Lexcorp Tower Penthouse. Lex watching video of Superman when he enters.
  • Bruce and Lex don't like each other. They have a past. "You see Bruce once called Lex as an amoral, arrogant brat. Lex thinks of Bruce as a trust fund baby. Lex considers he got himself to where he is at by innovation and hard work while Bruce by accident of birth."
  • Lex considers Superman "an alien, and a trespasser that doesn’t belong on this planet."
  • Bruce considers Superman an "impressive specimen."
  • Superman is only one of the reasons Bruce comes to Metropolis. He has an interest in the city’s tragic circumstances.
  • "The rebuilding of Metropolis is Bruce Wayne’s main priority."
  • Bruce will put aside his differences with Lex so they can work together by "pooling their resources" to better serve the citizens of Metropolis.
  • Even though Lex sees limitations in Wayne Enterprises, he believes he can still use the company for certain things.
  • Lex believes Superman can die and that he is not immortal.
  • Bruce sees Superman as a problem, but one that can be solved in a peaceful way. "One that doesn’t involve going toe to toe with a God."
  • "Lex doesn’t intend to go toe to toe with anybody because he believes you don’t get to be a general by charging the frontlines with the rest of the troops."
  • When Bruce leaves, Lex is thinking… maybe use the Batman

I liked some things about what was revealed and other things that I didn't like. For example, I don't really like Lex rocking a sleeve tattoo or that he was a street tough. Lex's origin story just seems a bit much, but it is a comic book movie, so we'll see how it turns out. I do like the dynamic that he will have with Bruce, though. It will be fun watching Affleck and Eisenberg working together as these characters. And even though the movie was presented to us as Batman Vs. Superman, it looks like Batman is going to try to find a peaceful solution to work with him. It probably won't start out like that though.

Legendary Hires Director for Sci-fi Thriller BRILLIANCE

Last year Legendary Pictures announced that they would be developing a sci-fi thriller called Brilliance, which will be an adaptation of the novel by Marcus Sakey. Today we've learned that the studio has hired Julius Onah to direct the film. He is the director of several short films and a feature film called The Girl is in Trouble that I'm not familiar with. It's cool to see him land such a big movie deal, and I hope he is able to make it something awesome.

The story is described as being like the X-Men, "set in a world where a rare set of people are born with extraordinary abilities and are called 'brilliants.' At the center of the story is a federal agent with great hunting gifts who is drafted to hunt down a terrorist, another such brilliant who intends to start a civil war."

There will be a trilogy of books, and I think the movie has pretty solid potential. Here's a description of the first book:

In Wyoming, a little girl reads people’s darkest secrets by the way they fold their arms. In New York, a man sensing patterns in the stock market racks up $300 billion. In Chicago, a woman can go invisible by being where no one is looking. They’re called “brilliants,” and since 1980, one percent of people have been born this way. Nick Cooper is among them; a federal agent, Cooper has gifts rendering him exceptional at hunting terrorists. His latest target may be the most dangerous man alive, a brilliant drenched in blood and intent on provoking civil war. But to catch him, Cooper will have to violate everything he believes in—and betray his own kind.

I've got a fantastically creepy horror short film for you to watch today called "LOT254." It was directed by Toby Meakins, and it tells the story of a collector who repairs a vintage cine camera "unlocking the hidden terror of LOT254." It's really kind of just a tease of what could be a fun horror film. I really liked the style and tone.

Marvel Already Prepping for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Sequel

We have yet to see the full potential of Marvel's upcoming sci-fi action film Guardians of the Galaxy, but it looks like a sequel won't be too far behind. According to JoBlo, an inside source says Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be coming out during Marvel's Phase 3 lineup. The sequel is said to be aimed for release on May 6th, 2016, which would fill the first of two previously announced release dates the studio has yet to reveal titles for.

Having seen some great looking early footage from the film at Comic-Con I knew there would be a sequel at some point. The crowd went wild! Marvel seems to know what they are doing, and I think audience is going to love what they are doing with this intergalactic team of misfits.

There's no information on if James Gunn will be back to direct the sequel, but it would be great if he does. I seriously can't wait for you to see some footage from the film if you haven't already seen it. I'm excited to see more footage, and we can only hope that the final product will blow audiences' minds.

Take it as a rumor, but remember… Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige has said they have plans for Marvel films through 2021, which means anything is possible.

Guardians of the Galaxy is set to be released on August 1st, 2014.

We now live in a world where everything is going digital, and the way movies are made is getting easier and faster. But that won't stop director Colin Trevorrow from shooting his next movie Jurassic World on good old fashioned film. The director made the announcement via Twitter saying that part of the film will be shot in 35mm and part of it in 65mm.

John Schwartzman is the cinematographer on the movie, and he has worked on films such as The Amazing Spider-Man, Armageddon, and The Rock all of which looked great!

The story takes place 22 years after the events of the first Jurassic Park movie and so far the cast includes Nick Robinson, Ty Simpkins, Josh Brolin, Bryce Dallas Howard and maybe Jason Schwartzman.

Ridiculous Plot Details for THE EXPENDABELLES and Director Announced

As most of you already know, The Expendabelles is a female take on Sylvester Stallone's action franchise The Expendables. The movie is being developed over at  Millennium Films, and they've hired Robert Luketic to direct the film, which Stallone is also producing. Just so you know, this is the same guy that directed Legally Blonde, 21, The Ugly TruthKillers, and the incredibly awful film Paranoia. Once you read the ridiculous plot synopsis (via: Deadline) you'll understand why they ended up with this director,

When America’s Navy SEALs are wiped out trying to penetrate the island lair of a deadly despot who has captured one of the world’s top nuclear scientists, it becomes clear that there is no such thing as the right man for the job and that this is a mission so impossible that only women can handle it. The only way in: some of the world’s deadliest female operatives must pose as high-class call-girls shipped in by private plane to satisfy a dictator–and instead save the scientist and the day.

This synopsis makes me want to palm-slap myself in the face. Why in the hell is this movie happening again? It sounds like it's going to be absolutely terrible in every possible way. I don't see the point of this film, but maybe it will at least be laughably bad.

I wonder what the final casting for the movie will look like. It was previously reported that Gina Carano and Katie Sackhoff had been cast. There's also been rumors of Meryl Streep (yeah right), Cameron Diaz, Zoe Bell, and Milla Jovovich possibly joining. Other females stars that could be considered are Sigourney Weaver, Linda Hamilton, Halle Berry, Carrie-Anne Moss, Geena Davis,  Jennifer Garner, Kate Beckinsale, Sandra Bullock, Michelle Yeoh, Rhona Mitra, Chloe Moretz, Uma Thurman, Lucy Lawless, Angela Bassett, Michelle Rodriguez, Lucy Liu, Pam Grier, and Brigitte Nielsen.

There's no doubt that this is going to be an incredible moviegoing experience. I'm incredibly excited to see the director's full vision of this story, because I think it's going to be even better than what we've been seeing in the trailers. And I love what we've seen in the trailers! The movie is set to be released in theaters on March 28th.

FANTASTIC FOUR Director Denies Female Doctor Doom Rumors

Yesterday a rumor hit the Internet suggesting that Doctor Doom could be played by a woman in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. The director of the film, Josh Trank, addressed the rumor on Twitter saying,

"The THR gender speculation is also bullshit. Next."

For the record, Trank also said that the leaked synopsis for the film was false, but then the Fox Legal team sent out an e-mail telling everyone to remove the synopsis from their sites. That pretty much told us it was the real deal. He even denied Michael B. Jordan being up for Johnny Storm, but now he's the only one officially attached to the project. So when Trank says the rumor is false, who knows what to believe. He did send out a follow up Tweet though, saying...

"All of the rumors I've debunked so far were really false, except for one of them."

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It's been a long time coming, but the creative team over at HISHE has finally given us an animated video showing us how Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace should have ended. These guys do funny stuff, so I think you'll enjoy this one!

Maybe if the queen focused more on making her case to the senate instead of focusing on changing in and out of elaborate costumes so much... After all she wasn't elected to watch her people suffer and die right? Thanks for watching. The prequels have been on the request list for a long time, so we're excited to finally have an episode 1.

Seth Rogen Officially Developing PREACHER for AMC

AMC has officially announced that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will be developing an series adaptation of the comic book Preacher. The two released a statement saying,

“This is amazing! We’ve tried for seven years to work on Preacher and we’re so psyched AMC is finally letting us. It is our favorite comic of all time, and we’re going to do everything we can to do it right. Humperdoo!”

The comic was created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon in the '90s. It tells the story of Texas reverend Jesse Custer who, after merging with the escaped offspring of a demon and an angel, finds himself imbued with the word of God, the power to command anyone to do his bidding. Teamed with his ex girlfriend, Tulip O'Hare, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, Custer sets out across America to track down the almighty and force him to explain why he abandoned creation.

Ennis had this to say about the project:

“Steve Dillon and I are very happy to see Preacher being developed for TV, which seems a much more natural home for the story than a two-hour movie…Obviously it’s taken awhile, but Ken levin along with Neal Moritz and his team refused to give up, long after the point when I myself grew skeptical, and their unrelenting enthusiasm for the project has gotten us where we need to be.”

For years people were trying to adapt this comic into a movie, but it never got off the ground. I think it is going to work better as a series anyway, especially on AMC.

Rogen and Goldberg will write the pilot and executive produce the series. Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) will also serve as executive producer and showrunner.

Trailer for Simon Pegg's HECTOR AND THE SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS

"Avoiding unhappiness is not the road to happiness."

This is the first trailer for Simon Pegg's new film called Hector and the Search for Happiness. If you couldn't tell by the title, it's a movie that examines the very nature of happiness. It looks like a really entertaining and inspiring film. It's based on the book by Francois Lelord, and it also stars Rosamund Pike, Christopher Plummer, Toni Collette, Stellan Skarsgard, and Jean Reno.

Pegg plays Hector, an eccentric yet irresistible London psychiatrist in crisis: his patients are just not getting any happier! He's going nowhere. Then one day, armed with buckets of courage and an almost child-like curiosity, Hector breaks out of his sheltered vacuum of a life into a global quest to find out if happiness exists. More importantly, if it exists for Hector. And so begins a colorful, exotic, dangerous and hysterical journey.

There's no U.S. release date set for the film yet, but it will be released in the U.K. this Autumn.

Paul Bettany Is The Vision in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

UPDATE:

Variety has confirmed that Paul Bettany will play The Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron, so this previously reported rumor just took another step toward being official.

A new rumor from reputable movie scoopers at Daily Mail UK will make fanboys very happy. They are reporting that Paul Bettany, who has voiced JARVIS in four Marvel movies, is going to be The Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s unknown how JARVIS and The Vision will be connected cinematically, but I’m sure the internet will now run wild with fan speculation.

Talks with Bettany have been kept super secret and reportedly have already advanced to the point that they…

“…did a series of costume, hair and make-up tests and worked with stuntmen and armourers.”

“Make-up experts were using various powders and potions on Bettany’s pale skin to bring about the Vision’s chalk-white complexion.”

In the comics the Vision is an android who was created by Ultron and is married to the Scarlet Witch. It will be interesting to see how these dynamics will be adapted to the big screen.

I really hope this rumor is true, as Bettany could bring such amazing depth to the Vision.
