We don't have to wait much longer for the return of The Walking Dead! It's scheduled to air on February 9th, and in anticipation, AMC has released seven new photos from the second half of the fourth season. From the pics it looks like Glenn is in the worst shape. Hopefully he makes it through this season alive! Which major character do you think will die by the end of the season?

Following the devastating events of the mid-season finale, Rick and the group are still reeling from the loss of their home, family, and friends. With the destruction of the prison, we see the group of survivors broken apart and sent on divergent paths, unsure of everyone else's fate. What was a challenging life behind fences and walls grows that much more perilous and precious as they are exposed to new dangers, new enemies, and heartbreaking choices. They will have their faith thoroughly tested — a faith that breaks some of them and redeems others.

fantastic-trailer-for-the-horror-anthology-fear-paris.jpg

I just came across this teaser trailer for a really interesting and cool-looking horror anthology called Fear Paris. They are gearing up to start shooting the full film, but this teaser is pretty impressive.

The movie will feature several connected stories that will come from directors such as Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Burbs), Xavier Gens (Hitman), and Timo Vuorensola (Iron Sky). They will explore the supernatural side of France’s capital city.

The producers behind Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Iceman join forces on the genre bending FEAR PARIS, an ambitious new film of unique interconnected stories exploring the dark underbelly of the city of lights.

Helmed by directors Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Hole), Xavier Gens (Hitman), and Timo Vuorensola (Iron Sky), the genre bending and connected stories will present a Paris unlike anything seen before, in a combination of fantasy, horror and science fiction. Casting is under way as the film will go into production this Summer/Fall. Two additional directors will join the line up soon.

This is a movie I definitely want to see! I hope you all enjoy the teaser! Thanks to /Film for the heads up.

Chris Carter, the creator of The X-Files, is bringing a new horror series to Amazon Instant this month! Not much is known about The After (including the release date)but the whole thing has a mysterious vibe with an unknown threat and a tinge of the supernatural blended with horror. You'll see in the first clip the effects aren't the most stunning, but it's the creator of The X-Files, so give it a shot when it premieres sometime this February! It's best to watch the first clip for an understanding of the series, and then the second clip to get much more excited about the show.

WORLD WAR Z Director to Adapt the Sci-Fi Novel RED RISING

World War Z director Marc Forster is set to direct the feature film adaptation of the sci-fi novel Red Rising. The script for the film was written by the book's author, Pierce Brown

The story "takes place on desolate Mars, where the protagonist is caught in a class system that thrives on oppression and secrecy. He is a Red, the lowest member of society, born to toil in the bowels of the planet in service to the sovereign Golds. When Darrow suffers a devastating loss and betrayal he becomes a revolutionary, out to bring about social justice. Questions of fate, duality, and loyalty, evolve in a cruel test of war between the sons and daughters of the ruling elite."

According to the report, this will be the next project that Forster will work on. I thought he did a great job with World War Z, which was supposed to be a big flop, but ended up being a huge success. Red Rising sounds like a solid project for Forster to take on.

Director Josh Trank and Fox are still in the process of casting the main characters for their reboot of Fantastic Four. As of right now, Michael B. Jordan is attached as Johnny Storm and Miles Teller will most likely end up in the role of Reed Richards. THR is now reporting that Kate Mara and Emmy Rossum have tested for the part of Sue Storm. The report also says that an actor named Christian Cook has tested for Ben Grimm, a.k.a. The Thing. I have no idea who he is, though. But this is the interesting part of the article!

Buried in the article is a quote that says Doctor Doom could actually be played by a woman, which would be incredibly interesting. This is the statement,

"The studio is likely to go for a big name and isn’t ruling out switching genders for the role."

The thing I'm most looking forward about this news is what the fan reaction will be if the studio actually does cast a woman in the role. I personally don't care because I never really found the villain that interesting anyway. Making the villain a woman will definitely turn some heads though.

We also previously posted a leaked plot synopsis for the movie. You won't be able to read it at this point because the Fox legal team made us take it down, which only tells me that the story and character details we posted were in fact true.

This animated short was written and directed by Hisko Hulsing, and it's pretty amazing. The short tells the powerful and compelling story of a man who is robbed and stabbed on a metro train. As he lies dying, a friendship from his youth flashes before his eyes. This is such a freakin' great film, and it's beautifully animated. It has one of those endings that just kind of hits you in the gut. This is a must watch, so check it out when you get a chance.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Will Lead Right into AGE OF ULTRON

It's no secret that Captain America: The Winter Soldier is going to be more like an Avengers film than a standalone movie. Joss Whedon himself said that The Winter Soldier is basically The Avengers 1.5. We also recently reported that the post credits sequence would involve some Age of Ultron awesomeness. If you want to know the details on that, click here

Now we have word from Disney CEO Bob Iger that the movie's storyline will "set critical events in motion” that lead into Age of Ultron which comes out on May 1st, 2015. I seriously can't wait to see what The Winter Soldier has in store for us. As much as I loved The Avengers, I think that this movie will be even better. Iger went on to say,

“I’ve really been impressed with the early buzz that we’re seeing for the Marvel films. Captain America 2 is just huge and it takes the Captain America story to incredible new levels."

I'm sure it will, and we'll get to see it on April 4th!

Evangeline Lilly to Join Marvel's ANT-MAN

It looks like Ant-Man has found its lead actress. Marvel is is currently in talks with Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) to be in the Edgar Wright-directed movie. If cast, she will join Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, and Michael Pena.

According to Variety, there's a possibility that she will play Hank Pym's daughter and Scott Lang's love interest. This isn't confirmed, and you should probably know that Pym didn't have a daughter in the comics. But that doesn't mean Wright and screenwriter Joe Cornish couldn't have added a new character to the story. Of course, the other possibility could be Wasp.

We'll eventually find out everything we want to know. Whoever the character is, it seems like Lilly would be a great addition to the Marvel cinematic universe. The film is set to go into production in April.

Brilliant Hayao Miyazaki Art Portrait Using Elements from His Films

"In order to grow your audience, you must betray their expectations."

Hayao Miyazaki wasn't only a talented artist and animator, he was an incredible storyteller. He brought so many wonderful characters and worlds to life. Deviant Art user C3nmt created this tribute portrait of the man using familiar elements from the movies that he has made. As you can see, it turned out brilliantly.

Hayao Miyazaki (born January 5, 1941) is a Japanese film director, animator, manga artist, producer, and screenwriter. Through a career that has spanned over fifty years, along with Isao Takahata, co-founded Studio Ghibli, a film and animation studio. The success of Miyazaki's films has invited comparisons with American animator Walt Disney.

Stephen King's AYANA to Get a TV Series Adaptation

Universal TV is set to adapt Stephen King’s short story Ayana into a new TV series. I'm not really familiar with this story, but it's set in the world of miracles and "features complex and powerful characters who are touched with just a hint of unexplained magic that triggers profound change in their lives."

The story was written in 2007 and published in The Paris Review, and it was later included in King's short story collection Just After Sunset in 2008. The series is being written by Chris Sparling (Buried). Here's a more detailed plot summary,

A man recounts his father's battle with pancreatic cancer in 1982, culminating in the intervention of a blind seven-year-old girl named Ayana. After being kissed by the mysterious child, "Doc" Gentry makes a miraculous recovery from the edge of death, and the narrator discovers that his own part in the working of miracles is only beginning. Over the following decades, he describes visits from a man who delivers him to others in need of their own miracles.

This sounds like it could be a great supernatural drama. King is such a talented writer and storyteller. The things he comes up with are amazing, and most of the time their adaptations are pretty decent. Hopefully this turns into something we will enjoy.

Disney has released a new trailer for their upcoming animated adventure Planes: Fire and Rescue. The first Planes movie was surprisingly good, and if you liked that movie, then the sequel looks like it's worth checking out.

Planes: Fire & Rescue is a new comedy-adventure about second chances, featuring a dynamic crew of elite firefighting aircraft devoted to protecting historic Piston Peak National Park from raging wildfire. When world famous air racer Dusty (voice of Dane Cook) learns that his engine is damaged and he may never race again, he must shift gears and is launched into the world of aerial firefighting. Dusty joins forces with veteran fire and rescue helicopter Blade Ranger and his courageous team, including spirited super scooper Dipper (voice of Julie Bowen), heavy-lift helicopter Windlifter, ex-military transport Cabbie and a lively bunch of brave all-terrain vehicles known as The Smokejumpers. Together, the fearless team battles a massive wildfire and Dusty learns what it takes to become a true hero.

The movie will be released in theaters on July 18th.

Amusingly Strange Trailer for James Franco's MALADIES

It always fun to see James Franco get a little whacky in his movies, and this latest film Maladies looks very strange and very entertaining. I enjoy off-beat films like this, though. The movie was directed by Carter (yes, it's just Carter,) and it also stars Catherine Keener, David Strathairn, Alan Cumming, and Fallon Goodson.

MALADIES charts the struggles of an unstable former soap opera star in 1960’s New York as he tries to restart his floundering creative career. Hoping to find clarity and new purpose as a writer, he holes up with his eccentric sister at the seaside home of their best friend. But as he disappears further into his own mind, reality begins to slip through his grasp. A daring new film from internationally acclaimed multimedia artist Carter, MALADIES is a heartfelt but defiantly unconventional exploration of the creative mind.

The movie opens in select theaters starting on March 21st, 2014 and will be available nationwide on VOD and iTunes on March 25th, 2014.

Harry Potter star Emma Watson is set to star alongside Ethan Hawke in an upcoming thriller called Regression. Unfortunately, we have absolutely no details on what the film is about. It is being directed by Alejandro Amenabar, who directed the ghost story The Others.

Watson is such a fantastic young actress, and it's nice to see her take on new roles. The next film we'll see her in is Darren Aronofsky's incredible-looking Noah. We'll make sure to update you on Regression as soon as any details become available.

Matthew McConaughey to Star in Gus Van Sant's SEA OF TREES

There was a time when I didn't really care for Matthew McConaughey. Can you blame me, though? He was making a lot of crappy movies! He's made a big change recently, and the guy has taken on some great roles in some fantastic films! Right now I'm enjoying his performance in the HBO series True Detective. He's also set to appear in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar

The actor is now attached to another film, this one set to be directed by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting). The film is called Sea of Trees, and the story was scripted by Chris Sparling.

The plot follows one man, played by McConaughey, who is planning to kill himself in the forest at the base of Mount Fuji. While in the “sea of trees,” he comes into contact with another man, played by Ken Watanabe, who has been contemplating his own suicide. Together the two men “begin a journey of reflection and survival.”

Elton John and his Rocket Pictures are looking to produce an animated big screen adaptation of the classic musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. They've already acquired the rights to the musical from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.

Producer Steve Hamilton Shaw had this to say in a statement,

"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is one of the most popular musical experiences ever conceived. We are excited about the huge potential of a contemporary animated version, and we're thrilled to bring this to the big screen in partnership with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice."

I was never a big fan of this musical, but if done properly I can see it being a very successful animated movie. After all, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is the most performed musical in history, and almost everyone is familiar with it.

The story is based on the "coat of many colors" story of Joseph from the Bible's Book of Genesis. It was also the first musical from Lloyd Webber and Rice to be performed publicly.

Lionsgate has released the first poster for their poltergeist horror thriller The Quiet Ones, which really looks like an awesome movie. It's based on the true story of a professor who with his students created a poltergeist in the early '70s. The movie is being directed by John Pogue and stars Jared Harris (Mad Men, Sherlock Homes: A Game of Shadows) and Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman, Catching Fire).

Inspired by true events, The Quiet Ones tells the story of an unorthodox professor who uses controversial methods and leads his best students off the grid to take part in a dangerous experiment: to create a poltergeist. Based on the theory that paranormal activity is caused by human negative energy, the rogue scientists perform a series of tests on a young patient, pushing her to the edge of sanity. As frightening occurrences begin to take place with shocking and gruesome consequences, the group quickly realizes they have triggered a force more terrifying than they ever could have imagined.

The movie also stars Olivia Cooke, Erin Richards, and Rory Fleck-Byrne. Lionsgate will release the movie on April 25th, 2014. Make sure to check out the trailer for the film here!

Check out this amazing series of superhero figurines that are made out of peanuts, including some other popular geek culture icons. They were created by Steve Casino, and as you can see, they look great.

Casino spends hours getting each one just right; the painting alone can take upward of 10 hours. And he starts each project with three potential peanut canvases, because he assumes two will break.
