This is the trailer for a solid looking movie called A Long Way Down, which has a fantastic cast that includes Aaron Paul, Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, and Imogen Poots

The film is an adaptation of a novel of the same name written by Nick Hornby. The story follows four strangers who find themselves on the same rooftop on New Year's Eve all wanting to commit suicide. They end up becoming friends and each other's support, and they start to form a surrogate family.

The movie also stars Rosamund Pike, Sam Neill, and Tuppence Middleton. There's no release date yet for the movie, but it looks like a good film. Thanks to Digital Spy for the embed.

How Lex Luthor Made Me Cry

It happened a little over two weeks ago. DC Comics announced that Lex Luthor would be joining the ranks of the Justice League as the new leader. I was intrigued. I always really liked Lex Luthor, not only as a villain, but as a character. I started chatting with my one of my fellow comic book geeks on his thoughts about this drastic change. We got onto the topic of villains in general. My friend compared Lex Luthor joining the Justice League to Norman Osborn taking over S.H.I.E.L.D. during Dark Reign. I thought it was more than that. I said that Lex Luthor was a more noble man than Norman Osborn, that maybe he actually has good intentions.

I look at Lex Luthor as someone who has always lived in the shadow of someone else. He is a genius, a man with unlimited potential. But his obsession with getting out of Superman's shadow drives him down dark paths. He has done some despicable acts, I mean really awful stuff. If Superman didn't exist, I believe Lex Luthor would be the hero of Metropolis and, to greater extent, DC Comics. This isn't to say Lex Luthor is a good guy.

As I talked to my friend something happened. I realized I was defending the villains. The bad guys that cause strife in the lives of millions. Why? Why was I defending these people who have done horrible things? People who have killed innocent people and put our heroes through hell? Well, I realized something. I identified more with these villains than I did with the heroes. 3 years ago I was the villain in my own life. I did some awful stuff: Manipulated friends and family, stole money, and other things I am not proud of. I bawled my eyes out. It was a difficult realization to have.

In the middle of high school I had a mental breakdown. I felt I didn't have control over my life. I blamed my fellow students, very much like Lex Luthor blames Superman. I was picking fights and isolating myself from my friends and family. But the only person to blame for my life spiraling out of control was me. I went to emotional rehab for about a year and a half and worked on myself. It was a lot of hard work.

But I believe I changed and am still changing for better.

A villain's redemption renews hope. No matter how far gone you are, you can still turn your life around, you can still start over, you can change into something you've always wanted to be. You can choose to be the hero in your story.

Your actions define you; past, present, and future. We all have regrets, mistakes we have made. We are only human after all. We look back and learn from them. We try to do better. Striving for greatness.

Lex Luthor may not be the best role model, but I hope he redeems himself in the coming months. All I know for sure is I am currently in the middle of my redemption story.

Endangered African Animals Reimagined as Killer Drones

This is a really cool series of art that reimagines endangered African animals as killer anti-poacher drones. The illustrations come from Robert Chew, and they were created for the International Anti-Poaching Foundation's campaign to help save the "big 5" endangered African land mammals.

Some of the animals in the series include the rhino, cape buffalo, elephant, lion, and leopard, and they stalk the savannah, armed with some badass advanced weaponry to get the job done. Thanks to Neatorama for the heads up on these! To see more art from the artist, click here.

This would make for an incredible sequel to The Lion King

You've got to watch this fantastically funny trailer for the upcoming Steve Coogan comedy called Alan Partridge. If you enjoy British humor, then I'm sure this is a movie that you'll enjoy watching. Coogan is a great comedic actor whose film Philomena is up for Best Picture at the Oscars.

When famous DJ Alan Partridge's radio station is taken over by a new media conglomerate, it sets in motion a chain of events which see Alan having to work with the police to defuse a potentially violent siege.

Alan Partridge is set to be released on April 4th, 2014.

Guy Ritchie to Develop Six-Part King Arthur Film Series for WB

Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie is looking to develop an epic King Arthur story that will span the course of six movies for Warner Bros. The studio has been trying to get a King Arthur  film into production for years, but it never went anywhere. Now they are looking to develop it into six films, which would be pretty incredible!

The script for the first film was written by Toby Harold, and he will also produce alongside Akiva Goldsman, Tory Tunnell, and Lionel Wigram. One of the earlier versions of the script was written by John Hodge (Trainspotting) and it was be based directly on Thomas Mallory's 15th century work Le Morte d'Arthur, which was divided into eight different books. Ritchie was previously attached to that project as well before it fell apart. The fact that Mallory's stories are basically the definitive source material for the legend of Arthur, there's a good chance that Harold's script and the other screenplays to be written will be influenced by them.

This could end up being an amazing franchise. I love the stories of Arthur, and there is so much awesome material to work from. I do find it interesting that the studio is willing to go with six films on this, but they couldn't commit to a three film adaptation of Ron Howard's Dark Tower series.

Ritchie's next film is The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which stars Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Debicki, Jared Harris, and Hugh Grant.

Elizabeth Banks will Direct PITCH PERFECT 2

Elizabeth Banks is set to make her directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2. Banks produced and co-starred in the first musical comedy which was released in 2012. Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are also expected to reprise their roles, and I imagine they aren't the only ones who will return.

Pitch Perfect was a surprisingly fun movie, and my girls absolutely love it. They watch that movie  just as much as they do some of the Disney ones. They even know several of the songs.

There's no information on what the sequel will be about, but the first movie centered on a freshman (Kendrick) who reluctantly joins a college acappella group and ends up taking them to the finals.

I'm sure Banks will do a fine job directing the sequel. The script was written by Kay Cannon, who also wrote the first film. Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley had this to say in a statement,

"Elizabeth originated the idea for Pitch Perfect and was instrumental in making the first film such a huge success. She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on and we’re thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2.”

Marc Webb Says THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is an "Aggressive Step Forward"

On February 2nd, we're going to get a new trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 during the Super Bowl. While we wait to see what awesomeness awaits us, you can read what director Marc Webb had to say about the movie in a interview with Total Film in which he says,

“It's huge. We're pushing the levels of effects, the level of action and the emotional capacity of this kid. It's an aggressive step forward. We throw around the term 'operatic' because of the spectacle and the theatre involved, which is pretty epic. There are enormous sets and great set-pieces. But really it's a very intimate song – this relationship between Peter and Gwen is very delicate and beautiful."

The movie looks like it will have some epic superhero material in it. I'm really excited for this, not only because it looks great, but also because it is going to set up two more Spider-Man films and a bunch of villain spin-off movies, which should turn out really cool!

Animated Short - GOLDEN AGE OF INSECT AVIATION

Here's a funny and very short animated project called Golden Age of Insect Aviation: The Great Grasshoppers. The short was created by Wayne Unten, and here's a description that came along with it,

"In 1903, Olivia Wright was the first to pilot the great grasshoppers of North America."

While taking my kids to the playground, I shot live-action footage of a grasshopper, using my iPhone.

This is one of many short animated clips I've made for fun. I might continue this particular clip as an Insect Aviation series... who knows :)

The outcome turned out pretty awesome, and it made me laugh. I hope you enjoy it!

Attack the Block star John Boyega is on a role with landing some pretty cool projects. He recently starred in an independent film called Imperial Dreams, which premiered at Sundance. He was also just cast as Olympic athlete Jesse Owens in a biopic. Now he's joined the cast of 24: Live Another Day. There's no information on who he'll be playing, but his character will have a recurring arc.

The upcoming limited series picks up four years after the series finale, which left Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) as a fugitive. This time he'll be running around in London kicking ass.

The series is set to premiere on May 5th, and it's going to be so cool to see Jack return! Boyega also joins Yvonne Strahovski and Stephen Fry.

In 2005, the American Film Institute revealed their list of 100 best movie quotes of all time. Designer Nathan Yau of Flowing Data took that information and used the quotes to create a poster featuring several different charts for each of the quotes. It's actually a very inventive chart that I think a lot of you will enjoy. Thanks to The Awesomer for the heads up! You can click the image to enlarge.

Will Josh Gad Play The Thing in FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot?

$

The latest Fantastic Four reboot rumor suggests that Book of Mormon star Josh Gad might play The Thing in Josh Trank's comic book film project. The rumor comes from Movies.com, and they say he is Fox's number one choice.

There's nothing official on this, but if it is true I can definitely see Gad in the role. It seems like he would have the perfect personality for it. I actually hope that the rumor is true. Gad has the ability to be serious when he needs to be, but he also easily brings the comic relief.

Previous rumors suggest that Miles Teller will play Reed Richards and Michael B. Jordan will play Johnny Storm. Neither of these rumors have been debunked, but they aren't official either. It seems like Gad would fit right in with these guys. He's a rising star, and we're going to start seeing him in more and more films.

I imagine The Thing will be fully CGI in the reboot, and if that's the case Gad would be great. He previously did voice work for the character Olaf in Disney's Frozen. I'm sure his voice has more range than that though, I doubt The Thing would sound like Olaf. Although it would be funny.

The big question is… will he be able to yell, “It’s clobberin' time” convincingly? I don't think they'd end up casting him if he couldn't.

Marvel Ready to Move Forward on CAPTAIN AMERICA 3

We all know that Avengers: Age of Ultron won't be the last time we see Captain America, or any of the other characters for that matter! But according to Variety, Marvel is already prepping for Captain America 3, and they want directors Anthony and Joe Russo back on board to bring it to life.

According to the report, "Negotiations wouldn’t begin till after Winter Soldier bows but sources say Marvel has been so impressed with the production of Winter Soldier, as well as with strong results from recent test screenings, that the studio has moved fast to attach the brothers to the next installment."

Their source also says that the Russos are already working with Marvel to put together an outline of what the third film’s story arc could be.

Marvel is obviously confident in what this directing team is capable of. I love everything that I've seen from the film, and I'm already convinced that it will be one of the best Marvel movies to date. Captain America: the Winter Soldier is set to be released on April 4th.

For years, Zelda confused me. Even though it said Legend of Zelda on the box, all of the promotional material featured Link, so I wrongly assumed Link was actually Zelda. Granted, my exposure to Nintendo was limited until the days of the N64 and Goldeneye, so once I actually got to play the game I realized my grievous error. Since then I’ve come to appreciate the numerous incarnations of the princess of Hyrule, and I don’t seem to be alone in that regard. Whether heir to the throne, fun-loving pirate, or no-nonsense ninja, Zelda is always intriguing and someone worth paying attention to. With that, here are some of the most captivating Zelda cosplays around.

BREAKING BAD’s Jonathan Banks Joins BETTER CALL SAUL

$

Breaking Bad co-star Jonathan Banks will be reprising his role as private investigator Michael “Mike” Ehrmantraut in the prequel series Better Call Saul. I loved this character in Breaking Bad, and it's awesome that he'll be back.

He will join Bob Odenkirk, who is back as the unflappable criminal lawyer Saul Goodman. The series will chronicle the evolution of Saul before he got involved with Walter White and his meth business. Banks will be a series regular, so we'll be seeing him around a lot, which is great! These are the only two actors officially attached the new series so far.

Mike is a former Philadelphia police officer who worked as the Head of Corporate Security at Los Pollos Hermano and enforcer in Gustavo Fring’s crystal meth operation. As you know, he later got involved with Walt (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse (Aaron Paul), which didn't turn out well for him, as he was ultimately shot and killed by Walt while trying to get out of the business.

Sly Cooper is a CG animated feature film adaption of of PlayStation's video game of the same name. The story revolves around three friends led by the “gentleman thief” named Sly Cooper. The other characters include Bentley Turtle and Murray Hippo. This looks like it could turn out to be a fun and entertaining film. It's being developed by Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment. It will be directed by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles director Kevin Munroe. Here's the official synopsis:

Sly Cooper is a kinetic and comedic heist film that tells the story of Sly Cooper, an orphaned raccoon thief, along with his childhood friends and partners in crime, Bentley Turtle and Murray Hippo. In the film, Sly learns of his birth family’s secret legacy; that he comes from a long line of talented and international thieves. Endowed with this knowledge, Sly and his friends are catapulted into a global adventure as they race to reassemble pieces of an ancient book holding The Cooper Clan’s family secrets before it can fall into the hands of Clockwerk – an evil Russian metallic owl bent on ending the Cooper family line. From romantic Parisian backdrops to the lush mountains of China, gritty film noir meets bright, colorful graphic novels in this origin story of the world’s greatest thief-turned-hero.

The movie is set to be released sometime in 2016. Thanks to THR for the heads up.
