GODFATHER 2 Is Joss Whedon's Model for AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

In a recent interview, Joss Whedon explains that The Godfather Part 2 is his 'guiding star' for Avengers: Age of Ultron. He also explains that Captain America: The Winter Solider will affect the events of his Avengers sequel, but also says that you wouldn't have to see Captain America to get what's going on in the Avengers storyline. Here's what he had to say to AlloCiné.fr,

"The events of Captain America [The Winter Soldier] will definitely affect the world of Avengers 2. But at the end of the day, I have to make my movie assuming that people will only have seen the first one, or possibly not even seen the first one. I can't assume that everybody went to see Thor [The Dark World], Captain America, and Iron Man 3 in-between. I have to go from one movie to the next and be true to what's happened [in the previous movies], but not be slavish to it. [...] The model I'm always trying to build from, or my guiding star, is The Godfather: Part II where a ton has happened in-between and it's a very different movie [from Part I], but you don't need any information. It's there in the film about what's happened since, what's different, and why is this a different film; why is it a different kind of structure, and why is it darker. It's all there, you're in the vernacular of the first movie and you're just ready to pick up in this new place, and hopefully that's what will happen with my movie. Obviously I'm talking about one of the greatest films ever made (The Godfather: Part II)... I hope mine will be good, but that is my guiding star."

The Godfather Part 2 is one of my favorite movies of all time, and the fact that that Whedon is using it as his inspiration for his next film is encouraging. I'm sure Age of Ultron is going to turn out incredibly well and will make fans incredibly happy. It's set to be released on May 1st, 2014!

GOTHAM: The Penguin Will Be First Batman Villain

This Batman-inspired TV series Gotham is sounding like it's going to be a hell of a series. It's shaping up nicely, and the rumors that are circulating have been exciting. It was recently revealed that Sons of Anarchy's Donal Logue has been offered the role of detective Harvey Bullock. Today, thanks to El Mayimbe from Latino Review, we've learned that the first villain that will be introduced from Batman's rogues gallery will be Oswald Cobblepot, a.k.a. The Penguin! Apparently, they are currently on the hunt for an actor in his twenties to take on the role.

FREE DC SCOOP! Wanna know 1st batvillain that will appear on GOTHAM? A guy named OSWALD (20s) aka THE PENGUIN which is currently casting. RT

This is just one of several villains that will be introduced in the series. It will be cool to see who they end up casting in these villainous roles. The series will focus on James Gordon, a young Bruce Wayne, and the villains that he will grow up to fight.

"The show won't have a bunch of characters you've never heard of. We see Detective Gordon, before he's a commissioner, all the characters you know, Bruce Wayne, the Penguin, all of them. It's Gotham teetering on the edge, and we see what makes these characters become who they are, [like] Catwoman. It's an operatic soap that has a slightly larger-than-life quality to it."

I'm really excited to see how this series turns out.

The latest trailer for Disney's Maleficent is called "Dream," and it features a lot of beautifully captivating new footage from the Robert Stromberg-directed film. It also features a haunting rendition of the song "Once Upon a Dream" from the original Sleeping Beauty animated movie. It really adds a touch of eerie awesomeness to the trailer.

The film has an amazing cast that includes Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Juno Temple, Sam Riley, Miranda Richardson, and Imelda Staunton. I really like everything that I've seen for this movie so far, so my expectations for it are growing. I think it will live up to them though.

Maleficent is the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.

The movie will be released in theaters May 30th, 2014.

Amazing Dark Vision of PETER PAN - Short Film

amazing-dark-vision-of-peter-pan-short-film.jpg

We've got a real short film treat for you you today. This is called Peter, and it's based on a graphic novel by Regis Loisel. It tells the story of Peter Pan, but this is a much darker vision of the character than anything you've ever seen before. The short was written and directed by Nicolas Duval, and it's a beautifully made film. The special effects and visual designs are pretty incredible. I was pretty impressed by the short, and I would love to see the story continue.

This short film presents the first striking stages of Regis Loisel’ s work ‘Peter Pan’ where he puts forward his dark vision of the world in the way of a fairy tale for adults. The film displays Peter as a child, years before Sir James Matthew Barrie’s one. We all know that Peter Pan is an eternal child who hates adults and whose sworn enemy is captain Crochet. But how did he come to this ? London in 1887 hunger coldness and poverty provide the setting.

Brought up by a tyrannical and alcoholic mother Peter finds his salute only in the dreams and tales which free his imagination. One night, after a violent quarrel with his mother he takes refuge on the docks. There a small and attractive fairy who needs help will take him to the imaginary country.

Thus begins the fabulous story of Peter a child from the poor area of White-Chapel who will later become Peter Pan. He will have to face the awful captain Hook in an everlasting fight for the treasure and survival of the island.

Enjoy the show!

Review for the Terrifying Horror Film THE BABADOOK - Sundance '14

$

I'm happy to tell you that this year the Sundance Film Festival movie line-up included one hell of a terrifying horror film! I've seen a lot of movies at the fest this year, some of which I thought would be scary, but instead turned out to be very disappointing. But not The Babadook. This Australian horror movie scared the shit out of me and the audience that I watched it with.

This was such an amazingly made horror film that ditched the conventional, predictable horror movie storytelling style and gave audiences something dark, disturbing and surprising! The movie not only did a great job screwing with the audience's heads, but it also featured some pretty nightmarish visuals to stimulate their fears even more.

It's not easy to successfully invent a new classic horror monster, but this movie did it perfectly. The Babadook is an insanely creepy monster that has the power to haunt your dreams. I won't lie... I was a little scared to turn off the lights and go to sleep after I watched the movie. I saw it with my brothers, and they felt the exact same way, afraid to turn out their lights at night and making sure to close their closet door before they went to bed. It was an extremely effective horror film that played with your fears and maybe even gave you some new ones!

The story followed a stressed out mother and her young, seven-year-old son who throws some crazy violent tantrums. The fits get worse after she finds and reads him a pop-up book called The Babadook that introduces the monster to the audience for the first time. As the movie goes on, the Babadook starts to terrorize the family. The mom doesn't want to believe that it's real and thinks her son is going crazy, but she comes to find that the Babadook is very real, and very deadly.

The movie is extremely intense and the actors give some pretty incredible performances. The movie stars Essie Davis and Noah Wiseman, and they both had to act out some pretty heavy situations. I was wowed by how powerful their performances were. There was stuff that they did that just made the hair on my arms and neck stand up in fear.

The part of any horror movie that always seems to go wrong is the ending. Very rarely is there a satisfying conclusion to these kinds of films, but The Babadook gives us an ending that fans of the genre will love and be proud of. There's some awesome tension and dread that builds throughout the whole film, and the payoff of it all is brilliant.

If you are a fan of horror, The Babadook is a must see movie. This is one of those films that I will gladly watch every year when Halloween rolls around. This is easily another one of my favorite movies from Sundance.

Here's the official synopsis:

“Do you want to die?!” seven-year-old Samuel asks his stressed-out single mother, Amelia. She wonders if his question is a threat or a warning. After dealing with Samuel’s frantic tantrums his entire life, Amelia suspects that her son has begun directing his violent misbehavior toward her. However, after a dark and foreboding children’s book called Mister Babadook mysteriously appears on Samuel’s bookshelf, Amelia must decide if her son is truly deranged, or if there really is a bogeyman lurking in their darkened halls at night.

First-time feature director Jennifer Kent vividly captures the vicious turbulence Samuel’s shrill outbursts, generating a real sense of horror from his aggressive unruliness, all the while subtly hinting at the weary Amelia’s own deeply troubled nature. The Babadook builds up tension and dread in this damaged family’s home before deftly introducing the terrifying possibility that something even more ominous may be stalking the dysfunctional pair.

A deleted scene from Thor: The Dark World has found its way online, and it features Tom Hiddleston's Loki sporting Captain America's costume. It's the exact same scene where he turns into Chris Evans' Captain America when talking to Thor, but in this version Loki is just wearing the suit. It's very humorous and cool to see, but still not as funny as Evans reprising his role for a few seconds. Thor: The Dark World hits DVD and Blu-ray on February 24th! Thanks to Empire for the embed.

STAR WARS REBELS - New Details and Character Reveal

REB_IA_482_L_article.jpg

There's still so much we have to learn about the new Star Wars Rebels animated series, but so far everything that has been revealed looks and sounds awesome! Thanks to executive producer Dave Filoni, we now have some new details on the series, including the reveal of a new character.

While talking to MoviePilot.de, Filoni says the series will see the return of classic Star Wars ships and that the tone of the series will be different from The Clone Wars.

"We will see many things that are famous to Star Wars, but have not appeared on screen in a while. Star Destroyers, TIE Fighters, and Stormtroopers - basically the Empire is back and that is a big change, since, for many years, we have only seen the Republic in action. The tone of the series is also different. The Clone Wars got very dark as we headed towards the end of the war and the downfall of the Jedi. Star Wars Rebels brings back the banter and faster pace that the original films were famous for."

I kind of liked the dark tone of The Clone Wars, but I'm sure there will still be some dark elements amongst the banter. The villain they have seems like he could be a pretty terrifying dude. Filoni went on to talk about the setting for the series and the new planet Lothal.

"Rebels takes place in the Outer Rim. The audience typically thinks of Tatooine as the place where Luke Skywalker grew up, when the Outer Rim is mentioned. We are on a more civilized planet, and one that profited from the Empire’s existence in the beginning. Most of the stories take place on the planet Lothal, which is a grass planet with large monolithic stones on the surface. The look comes from some Ralph McQuarrie concept paintings that were done for the original Star Wars films. We tried to make Lothal look and feel like a planet that would have been in the original film trilogy. It’s alien, but you feel like it’s someplace that you could visit on Earth geographically. Hoth, Tatooine, and Endor are all like this, so we think it fits in well."

The only confirmed character of the series until today has been the villain The Inquisitor, but Filoni has new revealed a character named Chopper, who happens to be a droid. You can check out the video below to learn more about him.

The highly anticipated series is set between the events of Episode III and IV -- "an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. It takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape."

Here's a fantastically cool series of sci-fi art that gives us a glimpse at what our future might look like with giant robots as a part of everyday life. It looks like a future in which the robot technology has been abandoned, and all that's left are landscapes, people, and dinosaurs? The art was created by Simon Stalenhag, and I really love how these turned out.

DOCTOR WHO - First Look at Peter Capaldi in New Costume

The BBC has released the first official look at Peter Capaldi in his costume as the 12th Doctor in Doctor Who

He's sporting a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, and a white shirt as well as black Dr. Martens shoes. The look was created by Doctor Who costume designer Howard Burden, and it turned out pretty cool. I like it! When talking about the outfit, Capaldi says,

"He's woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord."

Stephen Moffat adds,

"New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over - Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!"

Then Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC One, had this to say,

"Peter Capaldi's Doctor is officially recorded in history today with the unveiling of his new costume,. It's sharp, smart and stylish - The Twelfth Time Lord means business."

So do you like the new outfit?!

JURASSIC PARK Velociraptor Cage Prop Is for Sale on eBay

The actual Velociraptor cage used in the famous opening scene of Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park is now up for sale on eBay. Remember when they are trying to unload the raptor and one of the poor workers is pulled into the cage where he ends up being torn to shreds? If not, I posted a video of it below.

There's no way this thing is in condition to hold a raptor, let alone a rabid dog. It looks like it's ready to fall apart. It did not stand the test of time. It's in such terribly poor shape. But if you want it as some kind of ugly decoration, the bidding for the cage is almost up to $100,000. You can always invest more money in refurbishing it if you want, though!

Here are the details on the eBay page...

  • This is the original screen used prop seen in the opening scene of Jurassic Park
  • It is an authentic, original prop which was designed and constructed for the film
  • The Crate is featured prominently in the opening scene of the movie, as can be seen in the reference shots below!
  • The Crate is primarily wood, with some metal/steel components
  • The bottom of the crate is heavy steel
  • This is a very large and heavy prop; estimated weight is several hundred to one thousand pounds
  • Includes a full size Velociraptor prop
  • Velociraptor prop was produced for display at the premiere of the film

J.J. Abrams Talks about STAR WARS Secrecy

$
0
0

As you might imagine, there is a ton of secrecy surrounding Disney and Lucasfilm's Star Wars films. They are so intense with the security that director J.J. Abrams doesn't even get to see sunlight when working on the script for the film.

During an interview with the Daily Telegraph Abrams explained that,

"My office… I’m working on the Star Wars script today and the people in my office have covered up all my windows with black paper. I guess they wanted to make sure no one could see what I was doing. it seems rather extreme."

But it's an extreme to which they are willing to go to protect what they are working on. What they don't seem to get is that no matter how many windows they black out, leaks can come from within the orginization itself. He went on to talk about the digital age, saying,

“I do think there’s something about the digital age that is increasingly dehumanising us. We’re in this very weird place where we’re being pulled into experiences that aren’t really experiences at all. When you’re printing something on a Chandler & Price letterpress, even though it might take a long time and it’s imperfect, isn’t that the point?”

He then went on to say,

“We’re living in a moment of instant information and a sense of entitlement to that information. But I think it’s nice to remember that there’s nothing wrong with a sense of anticipation.”

One day everything we will want to know about the new Star Wars films will be revealed. In the mean time, it's incredibly fun to talk about the rumors and what we want to see from the return of the classic sci-fi franchise. I have to say that blacking out the windows seems pretty ridiculous though.

However, it is only once he experiences the power of love and desire that he is able to understand his very reason for being.
