Fan-Made Alternate Ending Musical Reprise for FROZEN

$

I loved Disney's Frozen, and I thought the ending of it was perfect, but a fan from Musical Catbug wrote a short musical reprise to the song "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" that would have made the ending even more perfect. The song would be sung by Elsa after Anna is frozen, and these are the lyrics….

"Yes I wanna build a snowman…
I'm sorry that it took so long…
I didn't know I needed you…I really do…
and now you're gone…
please…just ask me once more…

just one more time…I promise I'll open the door
…yes I wanna build a snowman…"

Scarlet-Glow recorded the song, and you can listen to it below! Thanks to io9!

We've got a fun animated short for you to watch today. It's called "Damned," and the story  follows an over-ambitious beaver who "goes too far when he gets the chance to realise his ultimate dream. Some dreams are just too big." The project was directed by Richard Phelan, and it was his Graduation film for the National Film and Television School. I enjoyed the short, and I hope you do too.

Cracked is good at destroying a lot of things you love in life, and Disney movies are no exception. In fact, I feel like at least 85% of the evil things I've learned about Disney have come from that site! Nothing evil here today, but they do ruin The Lion King  with a very painful conversation between Simba and Nala on how mating rituals go down between lions.

The fourth season of The Walking Dead continues on February 9th, 2014, and I can't wait to see what happens next! That mid-season finale was absolutely insane! AMC has released a promo poster for the the second half of the season with the tag line, "Don't Look Back."

What's interesting about this poster is that Carl is front and center, and Rick is in the background. Rick always seemed to be front and center on the posters for this show, so it makes me think that Carl is really going to step up and be put in a position where he will have to be a leader.

First Look at Disney's ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY

Alexander-and-the-Terrible-Horrible-No-Good-Very-Bad-Day.jpg

Disney has given us our first look at their upcoming family film, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, which is based on the classic children’s book by Judith Viorst. It features the film's stars, which include Steve Carell, Jennifer Garner, and Ed Oxenbould as the title character.

Disney’s “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” follows the exploits of 11-year-old Alexander (Ed Oxenbould) as he experiences the most terrible and horrible day of his young life — a day that begins with gum stuck in his hair, followed by one calamity after another. But when Alexander tells his upbeat family about the misadventures of his disastrous day, he finds little sympathy and begins to wonder if bad things only happen to him. He soon learns that he’s not alone when his mom (Jennifer Garner), dad (Steve Carell), brother (Dylan Minnette) and sister (Kerris Dorsey) all find themselves living through their own terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Anyone who says there is no such thing as a bad day just hasn’t had one. “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” directed by Independent Spirit Award winner Miguel Arteta (“The Good Girl,” “Cedar Rapids,” “Youth in Revolt”) from a screenplay by Rob Lieber, is a 21 Laps Entertainment/Jim Henson Company production.

The movie is being directed by Miguel Arteta, and it hits theaters nationwide October 10th, 2014.

Who doesn't love Mystery Science Theater? I enjoyed it back in the day and will catch the occasional rerun, but can't believe the following the show continues to have to this day! I guess there's a lot to be said for being the first geeks to capitalize on watching terrible sci-fi and commenting on it! Great artwork from Travis Perkins!

The 1981 version of Clash of the Titans is an epic masterpiece, and it's so much better than the remakes that we've seen over the last few years. The effects for the film were done by special effects legend Ray Harryhausen, and these Mondo posters feature the creatures that he created for the film. Both posters are very cool!

Mondo also recently announced an event they are calling Mondo Con, and it will take place in Austin, TX September 20-21, during Fantastic Fest.

Both posters go on sale Friday, January 3rd at a random time. Make sure to follow @MondoNews for the info.

This is Little Maddie, a Cthulhu-themed My Little Pony that was designed by Bigshot Toyworks for a project called “Friendship is Maddness,” which is a series of animation shorts and toys being created. I'm sure some hardcore bronies (Male My Little Pony fans) will love this. It makes me wonder how many of these fans have actually heard of this creature before.

For those of you not familiar with this creature, it's a cosmic entity that was created by H.P. Lovecraft for a short story called The Call of Cthulhu, which was published in 1928.

New Details for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Surface

Director James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy is sure to kick some major ass. I'm very excited about Marvel adding these characters into their cinematic universe. We now have a few new details on the film for you. They include Dave Bautista's role as Drax, Benicio Del Toro's The Collector, Thanos' role in the story, and Glenn Close as Commander Rael.

HitFix has some inside information on the film from a set visit they made, and when talking about Drax The Destroyer, they give some details on the character saying, "Driven by revenge, Drax has turned his body into a road map of private misery and loss, with ornate tattoos that tell the story of how he was left alone in the universe, filled with nothing now but rage." They went on to say that "Every single person we spoke to on the set talked about how blown away they were by what Bautista has been doing with the role." So basically this is going to be a hell of a badass character!

When it comes to Del Toro's The Collector they explain, "The Guardians are going to need something from him, and we'll see what happens when Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, Drax, and... Groot all show up on his planet asking for access to something in that collection." That's a nice little tease of something that sounds really exciting!

Then there's Thanos, who is one of the big bad villains in the Marvel cinematic Universe, but as we expected, he won't be a main villain in this movie. The site says, "He may well be an off-screen presence a la The Emperor in the first Star Wars movie," which makes sense. I wonder in what film they will end up revealing him in all his evil glory.

The director of the movie also clarified the role of Glenn Close on his Facebook, saying that she will be playing Nova Prima Rael. She is the highest ranking Nova Corps officer in the film. “I don't know where they got this 'Commander' stuff from."

I'm really hoping moviegoers embrace the awesomeness of these characters and this film. This isn't the most mainstream comic book, but it's going to be good!

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is presented by Marvel Studios and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gilian, Djimon Hounsou with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

The film opens August 1st, 2014.

Boba Fett Movie Being Written by Lawrence Kasdan?

Disney has yet to announce the stand alone Star Wars movies that they are currently developing. The only movies that have been officially announced at this point are Star Wars: Episode VII, VIII, and IX. I think we all knew deep down that one of these spin-off films would involve the bounty hunter Boba Fett.

In a recent interview with AMC Movie Talk, Metalocalypse director Jon Schnepp basically confirms that a Boba Fett solo movie is in the works, and that Empire Strike Back scribe Lawrence Kasdan is the one writing the script for it! The director seems pretty sure of himself too saying,

"One of them is Boba Fett. It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan."

Until we hear anything official, lets treat this as a rumor, but at the same time it does make perfect sense that Kasdan would be writing a Boba Fett movie. Now if they could only get Boba Fett creator Joe Johnston to direct the movie! That would be amazing! I'd be disappointed if Lucasfilm didn't at least approach him about it.

Details on the New NINJA TURTLES Character Designs

$

0

Up until this point, all we've seen from the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film is a bunch of set photos of the actors in motion capture suits. Thanks to Idle Hands we have some new details on the character designs for these totally radical characters! The description comes from a source who happened to see the new action figures for the film. These days it seems most of the movie themed action figures are close to the same designs that we see in the movie, they might not be exactly the same though. I think fans will be happy with the descriptions.

Here are the detail points for the Ninja Turtles:

  • Each turtle has the weapons they should have. (YAY!) 2 swords for Leo, a staff for Don, 2 sais for Raph, a pair of nunchucks and a three sectioned staff for Mikey.
  • Each turtle looks LIKE A TURTLE and not alien...at all. (BIGGER YAY!) In fact the designs are quite traditional and unremarkable, and feature far less texture than the 80's movie turtles. Eyes are fairly normal and not cartoonishly large. No beak along the nose area like some speculated. Three fingers and two toes.
  • The sort of hunched over posture present in the actors in those leaked set pictures is present here.
  • Amazingly, each character appeared to have a different physique with some (like Raphael and Leonardo) having super heroey muscle tone (though Raph appears more pumped up than Leo) and Donatello appearing slimmer..leaner. Michelangelo could possibly be slightly shorter than the rest.
  • Each turtle's mask matches the color from the cartoons.
  • Styles of dress are different as well with Leonardo in a sort of pseudo samurai gear get up including shoulder armor, some leg bits, arm bracer and foot wear up to the calf with bindings showing. He might have some armor (non metal) along his chest as well. Donatello's gear is a mix of techy, modern and a dash of samurai with more normal footwear (for a 2 toed giant turtle), some gadget on his head and gadgetry coming off of his shell. The ends of his mask are far longer than the rest, draping down to his waist. Raphael has adopted an urban warrior look with white, bandage-like wrappings on his feet, right leg, and right arm. He wears this very conan-esque loin cloth..thing..with leather straps draping down as if he were more suited for gladiatorial battle. Michelangelo's outfit seems the simplest with a hoodie wrapped around his waist, pants and sneakers with the toes cut out, wrappings on his hands and forearms, a necklace (could be puka shell beads?) and his mask ends drape down to his chest. He looks frighteningly ready to spit out some modern catch phrases.

Details for Master Splinter:

  • Again, a very traditional design.
  • Hair pulled up in a samurai..nub? Fu Manchu facial hair going on.
  • His eyes seemed a little odd but I couldn't make out what was going on there.
  • Slightly tattered samurai outfit with a blue upper half with gold accents, tan lower belted robes and blocky sandals.
  • Comes with a samurai sword.

Details for The Shredder:

  • This guy looks like he owns stock in the Ronco knife company! Pointy edges coming off of absolutely anything. He'll be the stuff of ridicule for some time. Very overcomplicated outfit.
  • Helmet is pseudo-traditional, adopting elements of the classic look (mostly the shape and key elements) with the top coming down over the eyes to the nose. Mouth area is recessed.
  • Describing the rest of this armor is a nightmare. Suffice to say, even though he's covered head to toe in metal armor or blades, his arms are still mostly bare. It's a bit comical. He's got the shoulder pieces with the blades coming off them, the shin armor with the blades coming off them, black armor areas to offset the steel parts and a cape that looks metal with blades coming down the side. I'd expect we'll see him whip that around in battle.
  • His only weapons (beyond his whole body) seem to be the bladey thingies coming off his forearm armor. The one on his right arm seems incredibly complicated..maybe a spinning blade?

Details for Footsoldiers:

  • No surprises here at all..just as drab as the goons in masks we saw on set.
  • The figure designs are a bit more colorful with a brownish scarf, blue vest, black arms, tan pants, grey knee pads and black boots. They also seem to have made the mask more of a grey than the copper look we saw on set.
  • The changes in colors and such lead me to wonder if they did that for the toy line just to bring something out for kids beyond a boring black outfit or has there been changes to the Foot Soldier's look? Our bet is the former. Makes little sense to put out figures that don't match the movie look, though....but it's not like it hasn't happened before.
  • Figure comes with a small hand gun, a larger rifle and a knife. You may be able to strap the smaller gun to his leg in a holster sculpted on.

The Jonathan Liebesman-directed film comes out later this year, and I imagine we'll get our first official look at these characters soon. The movie stars Megan Fox in the role of April O'Neil, Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo, Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick, Danny Woodburn as Master Splinter, and William Fichtner as Shredder.

The movie hits theaters on August 8th, 2014.

I love it when LEGO maniacs get crazy creative! You've got to check out this amazing build by Paul Hetherington featuring Joker's Funhouse that includes moving parts! It's pretty spectacular.

Paul Hetherington did more than merely build this colorful funhouse lair for the Joker; he also animated so that Poison Ivy's plants chomp, the Riddler runs his decoder, Penguin and his birds enjoy the Rocket Ride, and Batman and Robin do their best to stop their wicked fun.

Make sure to watch the video below to really appreciate the greatness of this Batman and Robin LEGO masterpiece.

Korean Drama Hilariously Uses English Song About Call Of Duty

$

Vampire Prosecutor was a Korean drama about a vampire lawyer that was cancelled in 2012 after a 25 episode run. Whether it was due to lack of viewership, competition,  or the fact it's first episode featured an English song about Call of Duty remains to be seen. Although I can find no evidence of it on the internet, Reddit users who allegedly lived or have lived in Korea claim this song "Camper" by Albert Kick to be a legitimate club hit among South Koreans. I remain doubtful as this serious scene is just too laughable when you know what the song is saying.

Disney Moves STAR WARS From Dark Horse to Marvel in 2015

$

0

Well, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that at some point Disney would pass the Star Wars baton to its newly acquired comics publisher Marvel.  For fans of the current status-quo, that time has finally come. Starting in 2015 Marvel will take over publishing rights for the Star Wars universe, and founder Mike Richardson passed on his thoughts on the subject. While he does admit they are saddened by Disney's decision to move the license to Marvel, he also mentions that they already have some replacements planned for the vacuum that Star Wars will leave in their schedule.

There's no word on whether any of the already established Dark Horse series will be picked up on the other side by Marvel, but we'll keep you posted. You can peep the full press release below. Just taking a temperature on the subject, are you excited by this news? Or do you feel that the move is a loss to Star Wars fans? Let us know!

The End of an Era

All things come to pass. So too, do all licensed deals. I am sad to report that Disney, the new owner of Lucasfilm, has notified us here at Dark Horse of their intention to move the Star Wars publishing license to another of their recent acquisitions, Marvel Comics, beginning in 2015. This will end a partnership that has lasted more than two decades.

For those who are new to the industry, Dark Horse revolutionized the treatment of comics based on films. After a history of movie properties being poorly handled with little regard for execution and continuity, Dark Horse took a new approach, carefully choosing licenses and approaching them with excitement and creative energy. Our goal was to create sequels and prequels to the films we loved, paying careful attention to quality and detail, essentially treating those films as though they were our own. Star Wars has been the crown jewel of this approach. We began chasing the title as far back as 1989, and with the launch of Tom Veitch and Cam Kennedy’s Dark Empire, a new era in comics was born. I’m not ashamed to admit that we were Star Wars geeks, and we have been determined to spare neither effort nor expense in the pursuit of excellence.

It is ironic that this announcement comes at a time when Dark Horse is experiencing its most successful year ever. For obvious reasons, we have prepared for this eventuality by finding new and exciting projects to place on our schedule for 2015 and beyond. Will they take the place of Star Wars? That’s a tall order, but we will do our best to make that happen. In the meantime, 2014 may be our last year at the helm of the Star Wars comics franchise, but we plan to make it a memorable one. We know that fans of the franchise will expect no less. The Force is with us still.

Mike Richardson

Press release:

The Walt Disney Company’s Lucasfilm Ltd. and Marvel Entertainment are joining forces to bring new Star Wars adventures to readers across the galaxy, with Marvel granted exclusive rights to create and publish Star Wars comics and graphic novels beginning in 2015.

The agreement marks a homecoming for the Star Wars comic books. Marvel Comics published the first Star Wars comic book, STAR WARS #1, in March 1977, which went on to sell more than 1 million copies. Marvel Comics published its STAR WARS series for nine years. In 1991, Dark Horse Comics took over the license, publishing fan-favorite titles like Dark Empire and Star Wars: Legacy. Last year, Dark Horse released The Star Wars #1, an adaptation of George Lucas’ original rough-draft screenplay for the film, garnering rave reviews and national media attention and ranking among the top-selling Star Wars comics of all time.

“Dark Horse Comics published exceptional Star Wars comics for over 20 years, and we will always be grateful for their enormous contributions to the mythos, and the terrific partnership that we had,” said Carol Roeder, director of Lucasfilm franchise publishing, Disney Publishing Worldwide. “In 2015, the cosmic adventures of Luke, Han, Leia and Chewbacca will make the lightspeed jump back to Marvel, to begin a new age of adventures within the Star Wars universe.

“We here at Marvel could not be more excited to continue the publication of Star Wars comic books and graphic novels,” said Marvel Worldwide Publisher and President, Dan Buckley. “The perennial brand of Star Wars is one of the most iconic in entertainment history and we are honored to have the opportunity to bring our creative talent pool to continue, and expand Star Wars into galaxies far, far away.”
