action-packed-full-trailer-for-the-raid-2-berandal.jpg

We've got the full international trailer for The Raid 2: Berandal to show you today! Holy shit this thing looks like it's going to be even more badass than the first movie! Director Gareth Evans sure knows how to make an insane action film! There's just no way he would be able to pull off this kind of stunt work in the U.S. so it will be interesting to see what he does if he ever starts making American action movies. In the meantime, enjoy the awesomeness of the new trailer. It starts out a little slowly, setting the story up, but then goes right into the action of the film.

THE RAID 2 picks up right where the first film left off and follows Rama (Iko Uwais) as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force. His mission is to get close to a new mob boss, Bangun, by befriending his incarcerated son, Uco. Rama must hunt for information linking Bangun with corruption in the Jakarta Police Department while pursuing a dangerous and personal vendetta that threatens to consume him and bring his mission–and the organized crime syndicate–down around him.Matt Flannery (THE RAID: REDEMPTION) and Dimas Imam Subhono served as cinematographers with Joseph Trapanese (THE BOURNE LEGACY), Aria Prayogi (THE RAID: REDEMPTION) and Fajar Yuskemal (THE RAID: REDEMPTION) scoring the picture.

The Raid 2 will premiere at Sundance and hit theaters on March 28th, 2014

Robert Downey Jr.'s character, Sgt. Lincoln Osiris, aka Kirk Lazarus, remains my sole reason to watch Tropic Thunder any time it's on TV. Of course, due to my disappointment upon seeing it in theaters I never picked up the DVD release, but now after watching this documentary I wish I had! This special feature follows Osiris after the events of the film in which he experiences PPSD and abuses and takes his fake family hostage. It's a very funny 8-minutes of RDJ without the disappointing performances of Jack Black or Ben Stiller!

Marvel has released the first official photo from James Gunn's The Guardians of the Galaxy. The photo features the main characters in the film, played by Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel. Just so you know, this movie is going to be awesome!

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team — the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the blanace. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is presented by Marvel Studios.

The film comes out on August 1, 2014!

Peter Capaldi Will Be Keeping His Scottish Accent for DOCTOR WHO

peter-capaldi-will-be-keeping-his-scottish-accent-for-doctor-who.jpg

Peter Capaldi will be keeping his Scottish accent to play the Doctor in a move by the BBC which is causing some controversy amongst UK Doctor Who fans. In the past, the series has required actors, including Scottish David Tennant, to adopt a more English accent. Put that way, it seems like a real kick in the teeth, but I'd be willing to bet that outside of Europe very few of us would pick up on Capaldi's changed dialect in relation to past Doctors had we not read about it. What is important is that Capaldi got something the almighty Tennant did not, which means the show will have an even larger magnifying glass on the new Doctor when the show resumes in 2014! Thanks to Mirror UK for the report.

PORTAL - For Science. You Monster. Art by David Saavedra

For those who love Portal, there is no shortage of cool things to gawk at, and thanks to David Saavedra that surplus of cool just got bigger. You might be a bit surprised that this incarnation bears a huge resemblance to Olga Kurylenko, star of Oblivion and Quantum of Solace, and that happens to be on purpose. While we all might have our favorite pick for who could play Chell if a Portal movie really did happen, I think we can agree that she looks pretty formidable here, and that’s not even counting the portal gun. I love the way the orange just leaps off the page (with a nice cameo from Glados in the background), and "the cake is a lie" on the wall is a nice touch. Hopefully, this isn’t the last of these we’ll see from David. I nominate  Steven Seagal for Heihachi, who's with me?

(crickets)

Well crap, guess that's not going to happen.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER - New Photos and Story Details

Thanks to Empire we have a few new photos from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, along with some more details about Steve Rogers' story arc and S.H.I.E.L.D. During the interview with the magazine, co-writer Christopher Markus talks about Rogers' arc in the story, explaining,

"What helps us get past the pious Boy Scout that he could turn into is that he doesn't really want to be this guy. He would prefer to be Steve Rogers just walking down the street, helping people sometimes. He felt the call when the War came. He's kind of the still centre and things happen around him and are influenced by him. It's interesting in this movie, for instance, to watch his relationship with Black Widow, who of course has a very different outlook. It can make it difficult with executives who often want arcs. It's very difficult not to sound lazy when you go, 'Well, he doesn't really have an arc'”

tumblr_myngablRcp1rtmiv4o6_500.jpg

Director Anthony Russo goes on to talk about the role of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the story. Empire reveals that the defense organization will be using surveillance in the form of drones. Of course, the development of the drones was inspired by current real-world controversies.

"What made '70s thrillers interesting is that it was a very complicated time. We were peeling back the curtain with Watergate and realizing how corrupt the system was. Now, again with the proliferation of social media, you can blow the whistle on the NSA and it can be round the world in 30 seconds. And we have the morality of drones. It is right to preemptively use them to kill suspected terrorists prior to any sort of trial? So the times we're living in are even more complex."

The movie is set to be released on April 4th, 2014, and I'm extremely excited for it! Everything I've seen from the film up to this point has been badass! I think it will end up being one of the best Marvel movies so far.

STAR WARS REBELS - Inquisitor Action Figure Revealed

inquisitor_figure_2.jpg

StarWars.com has revealed the first action figure design for their upcoming new animated series Star Wars Rebels. The figure is of the main villain in the series known as The Inquisitor. I really like the look and feel of the new series, and I'm excited to see how it turns out.

The Inquisitor, the Empire's Jedi hunter and a major new villain in the highly anticipated Star Wars Rebels animated series, was unveiled by Lucasfilm at this year's New York Comic Con. Today, StarWars.com is excited to present the official reveal for the character's first ever 3.75-inch action figure from Hasbro.

The figure -- the first to be seen from the upcoming Star Wars Rebels Saga Legends line -- features five points of articulation, show-accurate accessories, and is sculpted in the art style of the series. Look for the Inquisitor and the Star Wars Rebels Saga Legends line to hit store shelves in fall 2014

The series is set between the events of Episode III and IV -- "an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. It takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape. Star Wars Rebels will be produced by Lucasfilm Animation, featuring many of the key talents that made Star Wars: The Clone Wars."

The show is scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel and will be followed by a series on Disney XD.

Top 10 Favorite Films of 2013

$

2013 was another great year for movies! I had a blast going to the theater and watching movies this year. I have to say that something strange happened this year with me. When making my list end of the year Top 10 favorite movie list… none of the big budget superhero movies ended up on it. I enjoyed those films, I had a great time watching them, but there were just a lot of smaller films out there that were better made. They may not have pulled in a ton of money, but they are all amazing films that I think people need to see. I surprisingly found it easy to pick out the films that I enjoyed.

I felt that all of these films on my list had incredible scripts, stories, direction, and acting. If you haven't seen any of these things you need to watch them!

top-10-favorite-films-of-2013-10.jpg

10. Ender's Game

I grew up reading the book that this movie is based on. I was a huge fan before the movie came out. I have to admit, I thought this movie was going to suck, but I walked out of that theater with a huge smile on my face. It's one of the few films this year, that I actually saw in theaters more than once, and I hope we get to see some sequels!

top-10-favorite-films-of-2013-9.jpg

9. Trance

I haven't seen this film on anybody's top 10 list that I've read, and I don't understand why. Danny Boyle's Trance was bloody insane, and I loved it! This is one of the most jacked up heist thrillers I've ever seen, and if you haven't seen it yet you need to!

top-10-favorite-films-of-2013-8.jpg

8. The Kings of Summer

The first time I saw this film was at The Sundance Film Festival, and it stuck with me ever since. This is a movie I've seen a ton of times over the year. It's a hilarious coming of age drama that has the same feel as some of the movies I watched in the '80s. It was just entertaining from start to finish, and I absolutely loved the characters it introduces us to.

top-10-favorite-films-of-2013-7.jpg

7. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Peter Jackson continues to blow me away with his Middle Earth films! The Hobbit is one of my favorite books ever, and I love what he's done with bringing that story to life so far.  I'm sad that there is only one Middle Earth movie left, and then he will never make another one again. This last film was just entertaining as hell!

top-10-favorite-films-of-2013-6.jpg

6. Her

Spike Jonze's Her was by far the most unique movies that I've seen this year. It was one crazy love story, and it was told in the most beautiful way. I love Jonze's filmmaking and storytelling style.

top-10-favorite-films-of-2013-5.jpg

5. American Hustle

This was such a fun movie with great, well-developed characters that I enjoyed watching. Director David O. Russell is is going to help keep the old school style of Hollywood storytelling alive. All of his films are just incredibly entertaining, and American Hustle is a fantastic addition to his body of work. I can't wait to see what he does next.

top-10-favorite-films-of-2013-4.jpg

4. The Wolf of Wall Street

Damn Scorsese, you did it again! I'm such a huge fan of Martin Scorsese's work, and I absolutely loved what he did with The Wolf of Wall Street. On top of that, the acting was phenomenal, some of the best I've seen all year, and Leonardo DiCaprio deserves to finally get his best actor award.

top-10-favorite-films-of-2013-3.jpg

3. The Conjuring

I love a good horror film, and James Wan's The Conjuring was freakin' amazing! This was one of the best and scariest horror movies I've seen in a long-ass time! This was just good solid storytelling, and I was extremely entertained from start to finish.

top-10-favorite-films-of-2013-2.jpg

2. Saving Mr. Banks

This was the feel good movie of the year! It was really cool to see the untold story of how Mary Poppins finally made it to the big screen, and I thought this story was perfectly told. One of the things I liked most about the film was the good feeling it left me with when it was over. I also really enjoyed the humor. I found myself laughing a lot through the movie, but it also dealt with some serious dramatic issues. It had a great balance of humor and drama. I don't see how anyone can watch this movie and not like it.

top-10-favorite-films-of-2013-1.jpg

1. Gravity

How could this not be on the top of my list!? This film had everything that we love about movies–drama, suspense, humor and it was an inspiring tale of survival. It took the me to a place I have never really seen in that way before, and it simply blew me away and left me in awe. This is just one of those movies that helped change cinema.

Here are eleven more honorable mentions that didn't make my final list above:

Kon Tiki - It actually came out in 2012, but I didn't see it until 2013. It would have been number 1 on my list, if it had come out this year.

Frozen

The Secert Life of Walter Mitty

Pacific Rim

The Way Way Back

Rush

Iron Man 3

Stoker

Thor: The Dark World

The Book Thief

PhilomenaThis is a very small film that was highly recommended by a few people. I'm glad I went and saw it because it was a great movie. It's nothing like what I expected it to be, but it was a solid mystery style film based on a true story. Steve Coogan wrote, directed, and starred in the film alongside Judi Dench. If you haven't seen it yet, you've got to check it out!

Disney Animation's BIG HERO 6 to Be Co-Directed by Chris Williams

The co-writer and co-director of Disney's Bolt, Chris Williams, has joined director Don Hall (Winnie the Pooh) in the animated production of Marvel's Big Hero 6. Williams also has writing credits for films such as Mulan, The Emperor’s New Groove, and Brother Bear

I think Big Hero 6 is going to be an incredibly fun animated feature. I love the concept art and character designs that I've seen from it, and the story seems like it will be pretty awesome.

“Big Hero 6” features brilliant robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo. With the help of his closest companion—a robot named Baymax—Hiro joins forces with a reluctant team of first-time crime fighters on a mission to save their city. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action and all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studio.

The stereoscopic 3D CG film hits theaters on November 7th, 2014.  I'm really looking forward to this movie.

Hopefully I'm not alone in this, but I find Emma Frost to be one of the most entertaining characters in comics. She's one of the ultimate femme fatales, and she walks a wonderfully fine line between hero and villain so often that the sides have completely blurred at this point. Powerful, beautiful, and loyal to those few who have earned it, the White Queen is one of the more complex mutants around, so it would stand to reason she would be the focus of some splendid cosplays. The community certainly did not disappoint, so put on your fancy clothes and enjoy some of the best White Queen cosplays around!

Universal Pictures has released the first official photo from Seth MacFarlane's new western comedy, A Million Ways To Die In The West. It features the main cast in the film, which includes MacFarlane, Charlize Theron, Neil Patrick Harris and Amanda Seyfried. It also stars Liam Neeson and Giovanni Ribisi. I love MacFarlane's comedy style, and I can't wait to see what he has in store for this movie.

The story has been described as a Blazing Saddles-style comedy that will include contemporary humor, "with one undercurrent being just how dangerous and painful life really was in the late 1800s."

The story follows a sheepish farmer named Albert (MacFarlane) who chickens out of a gunfight and sees his girlfriend (Seyfried) leave him. When he meets the wife (Theron) of a notorious outlaw who offers to teach him how to shoot, the farmer at first sees a chance to win back his love but slowly falls for the woman. Complications ensue when the outlaw returns and reclaims his woman. Ribisi is playing MacFarlane’s character’s best friend Edward, "a simple shoe repairman who bears up with a girlfriend," played by Sarah Silverman, "who engages in all sorts of lewd activities but refuses to have sex with her fiancé, believing that as Christians the couple should wait until marriage before lying down together."

The movie comes out on May 30th, 2014.

Paramount Pictures has released the first clip from their new horror film Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. The clip features the main character going down into a basement, which is something a person should never do in a horror movie because bad things are bound to happen. I've also included a new TV spot for the film for you to check out.

The movie is set to be released on January 3rd, 2014, and it looks like a ridiculous addition to the franchise. I won't be rushing to the theaters to watch this one.
