The first trailer for the feature film adaptation of Need for Speed is here, and it looks awesome! The movie stars Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul, as well as Michael Keaton, Imogen Poots, and Dominic Cooper. The trailer shows off some great visuals, and it looks like the movie takes itself pretty seriously, which I wasn't expecting. It plays out almost exactly like a video game trailer with the voiceover and everything. but it seems like what they are doing is going to work. From what I see it captures the video game world perfectly.

The story chronicles a near-impossible cross-country race against time—one that begins as a mission for revenge, but proves to be one of redemption. In a last attempt to save his struggling garage, blue-collar mechanic Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul)—who with his team skillfully builds and races muscle cars on the side—reluctantly partners with wealthy, arrogant ex-NASCAR driver Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper). Just as a major sale to car broker Julia Bonet (Imogen Poots) looks like it will save the business, a disastrous, unsanctioned race results in Dino framing Tobey for manslaughter.
Two years later and fresh out of prison, Tobey is set on revenge with plans to take down Dino in the high-stakes De Leon race—the Super Bowl of underground racing. To get there in time, Tobey must run a high-octane, action-packed gauntlet, dodging cops coast-to-coast and dealing with fallout from a dangerous bounty Dino put on his car. With his loyal crew and the surprisingly resourceful Julia as allies, Tobey defies odds at every turn and proves that even in the flashy world of exotic supercars, the underdog can still finish first.

The movie was directed by Act of Valor co-director Scott Waugh, and it's set to be released on March 14th, 2014! I'm excited for this!

DEXTER Ending Explained and Alternate Ending Revealed

dexter.jpg

I've been a huge fan of Dexter throughout all eight seasons. I was excited for the end, but ultimately, I was really disappointed with what they gave us. This final season seemed to be headed in a great direction, and then everything they did didn't even really seem to matter in the end.

Showrunner Scott Buck  stands by his ending, saying, “This is absolutely the ending I wanted.” Unfortunately for him, most of the fans don't seem to agree. In a recent interview with THR he explains his ending. Then there's the former showrunner, Clyde Phillips, who gave his alternate vision of the ending, which I actually liked a lot better. But here's what Buck had to say about his ending,

"We wanted to leave it all in the viewers’ head. I don’t know what he’s thinking in that moment; I know he’s in this self-imposed prison and the reason he locked eyes is essentially so we can feel as uncomfortable as he does in his world. He’s someone who was just moments from taking that final step toward humanity who then has to face himself as the monster he believes he is and decide his own fate. He gives himself what he deserves. I don’t think in that moment he’s fighting the urge to kill; he’s dealing with the reality of the misery of his life in that moment."

As for the final season as a whole, he said,

"I’ve also heard that some viewers are not happy with this season, and they all have different reason for it. So much of the stuff you read is that people want the show to be like it was the first few years where Dexter would go out and kill people. If we had continued to follow that line, the show would have gotten old very fast. This is a show that’s run for eight years, and in order to sustain interest you have to continue to grow and evolve. So yes, I am happy with where we ended the show. This is absolutely the ending I wanted."

As for Phillips' thoughts on the matter, he told the Reddit fans that “They broke the code with the audience.” When asked about the eighth season, he went on to explain that, “It’s so important to keep the rules in place when doing a show like that.” Then in an interview with E!, he shared his vision for the ending of Dexter, which I actually really like.

"In the very last scene of the series, Dexter wakes up. And everybody is going to think, ‘Oh, it was a dream.’ And then the camera pulls back and back and back and then we realize, ‘No, it’s not a dream.’ Dexter’s opening his eyes and he’s on the execution table at the Florida Penitentiary. They’re just starting to administer the drugs and he looks out through the window to the observation gallery.
And in the gallery are all the people that Dexter killed—including the Trinity Killer and the Ice Truck Killer (his brother Rudy), LaGuerta who he was responsible killing, Doakes who he’s arguably responsible for, Rita, who he’s arguably responsible for, Lila. All the big deaths, and also whoever the weekly episodic kills were. They are all there.
That’s what I envisioned for the ending of Dexter. That everything we’ve seen over the past eight seasons has happened in the several seconds from the time they start Dexter’s execution to the time they finish the execution and he dies. Literally, his life flashed before his eyes as he was about to die. I think it would have been a great, epic, very satisfying conclusion."

I like that this ending gives us an official close to Dexter. I understand what they were doing with the ending we got, but it wasn't a satisfying conclusion. It's almost like they just left it open for another season.

What do you think about the ending we got compared to the ending we could have had?

Check out this incredibly cool Japanese-style Samurai art for the ThunderCats, created by Phil Postma. These designs look like they would make for a really cool animated series. There was actually a rebooted animated series that was cancelled after one season. I watched the first episode of it and was pretty disappointed. It could have been a lot better. There's no word on what's going on with the movie, but I'm sure one day it will happen. Check out the art and let us know what you think of the designs.

Here's a SyFy Channel-inspired feature film called Big Ass Spider, and it stars Greg Grunberg from Heroes. Just to be clear the movie doesn't come from SyFy, but we've seen a lot of movies like it on their network, and I'm sure one day this will play on it. This one also has much better production value, and it looks like it could be a lot of fun. Here's the synopsis:

The unlikely heroic duo of a blue-collar exterminator (Grunberg) and Latino security guard (Lombardo Boyar) must save the day when a giant spider escapes from a military lab and rampages the city of Los Angeles.

The movie comes out in theater and On Demand on October 18th. Will you be checking this one out?

During last night's premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel showed off an extended TV spot for Alan Taylor's Thor: The Dark World, and it featured some really cool new footage that you'll want to see if you haven't already watched it.

The movie opens up on November 8th, and I'm confident the movie will be as epically badass as it looks.

Bigby Wolf is a popular guy, but I'm not sure I’d want to have his status if it meant having axes aimed at my head. Bigby seems to have a great deal on his plate in this season preview from Telltale’s newest game, The Wolf Among Us. Episode 1, called "Faith," focused on characters like Mr. Toad, Snow White, Beauty, and of course, the Woodsman (you know, the guy with the axe). After the roller coaster that was Walking Dead, I can’t wait to step into the world of "Fables." I have a Telltale sized hole in my gaming life right now, so fall can’t get here quickly enough.

Legendary actor Kurt Russell was rumored to be in Fast & Furious 7, and now we have confirmation and a photo of him with Paul Walker and Vin Diesel. They're all in suits surrounded by car parts, and I'm pretty sure they're all talking about who says "family" more. Fast & Furious 7 has the most amazing cast assembled outside of a comic book movie. I think the only way to top this cast would be to make a buddy cop film with Steve McQueen and Bruce Lee.

Russell also joins Jason StathamDwayne Johnson, Tony JaaLucas Black, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Djimon Hounsou, and Tyrese Gibson. Directed by the amazing James WanFast & Furious 7 comes to theaters July 11th, 2014.

For those of you not familiar with Cuusoo LEGO sets, they are basically fan-made sets that people can vote for. If a set receives 10,000 votes, LEGO evaluates it and decides whether or not they are going to officially produce it.

This one is for a 30th anniversary-themed edition of The Goonies, which is one of my favorite movies of all time. The set features two different scenes from the movie and includes all of our favorite characters such as Mikey, Data, Mouth, Brand, Sloth, Chunk, and more. I've also included a video below.

You can check out a few more images on the official Facebook page, and if you want to vote, make sure to head on over the Cuusoo page! As a fan of The Goonies, I hope this LEGO set ends up in development.

Watch Cillian Murphy and Eion Bailey's Batman Auditions

A new special feature has been released for the upcoming The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector's Edition, and it focuses on the casting of Batman. We've already seen the screen test for Christian Bale, and now we have the video footage of Cillian Murphy and Eion Bailey auditioning for the part as well. In the process, Christopher Nolan explains why they didn't end up in the role. Both of them would have brought something completely different to Batman. I'm glad they went with Bale. He just brought a certain weight to the role that you don't see with this other two actors. But Murphy was perfect as the Scarecrow!

If you don't want to watch the whole video, Bailey's audition is at the 2:05 mark, and Murphy's starts at the 6:23 mark.

Expect Even More Death in GAME OF THRONES Season 4

expect-even-more-death-in-game-of-thrones-season-4-header.jpg

For those of you who are looking forward to seeing more death in the upcoming fourth season of Game of Thrones, it looks like you're going to get a lot of it. In a recent interview, Jon Snow actor Kit Harrington says that there are going to be more deaths in this season than any other. This was his exact quote regarding that bit of awesomeness.

"More deaths this season than any other. You'd think they'd turn the deaths down but they don't. They realize that's a successful option so they're just killing more people than we've ever killed."

People seem to love the death. I'm not sure if that's something we should be disturbed by. The fact that I'm not sure if that's disturbing or not is disturbing. All I know is that I'm excited for season 4!

He also talks a little bit about his character in the upcoming season, and you can listen to him discuss it in the video below.

This is a new UK banner for the long-awaited big screen adaptation of Ender's Game. The movie isn't going to be what most of us fans were expecting, but I still think it's going to deliver some solidly awesome, action-packed sci-fi entertainment. This is one of those book to film adaptations that you have to watch with an open mind, otherwise a lot of fans might hate it. I really do like what I've seen from the film so far, but it would have been nice had they stayed closer to the source material... and there I go losing that open mind I was just talking about.

The movie is set to be released on November 1st, 2013!

5 Live Action '80s Shows that Deserve a Reboot

$
0
0

How many times have we seen an '80s show reboot that was underwhelming at best? Knight Rider, The A-Team, Super Mario Brothers (that movie was more based on the show than anything)...the list goes on and on. However, once in a blue moon something like 21 Jump Street, V, or Thundercats comes along and makes you crave more. These five '80s shows are good enough they should (or most likely will) get a reboot before too long, so let's hope they're done right

5. The Greatest American Hero (1981-1983)

Reboot should be: Cartoon

In the age of superheroes in media, it'd be a nice change of pace to bring some comedic relief to it all. Maybe don't bring back The Greatest American Hero as a live action series this time. A quirky school teacher with an alien suit and superpowers he doesn't understand just screams children's cartoon! Of course, when you move it to that zone you get the kid audience that will keep the shows ratings high so the show doesn't exist on fanboy hate-watching alone and perhaps boost dvd sales of this underrated show.

4. Alien Nation (1988)

Reboot should be: TV Series written by Damon Lindelof

Alien Nation is a show about the acclimation of an alien species to life on earth. To sum up the tone of the show, it's pretty much District 9 except the aliens are similar to humans. Primarily, it follows Alien (or "newcomer" as they call them) cop Sam Francisco and his human partner Matthew Sykes as they battle the uprising "newcomer" underworld developing on Earth. If you watch the pilot (or just skip around to random segments), you'll see why I think Damon Lindelof needs to write this series. The series is very suspense heavy and with the mystery of the effects of prolonged exposure between two species it could certainly lead to some interesting side stories.

3. Pee Wee's Playhouse 1986-1990

Reboot Should Be: A Film

Currently a new Pee Wee film is stuck in development hell, but it sounds awesome. Last I heard, Judd Apatow was developing the script alongside Paul Reubens for a more adult-themed take on the show.  While that's all well and good, I don't think that's entirely necessary to make a good Pee Wee film in this day and age. You watch an episode of Pee Wee's Playhouse now and it still feels timeless, like you are caught in some alternate dimension that's really awesome. Paul Reubens has proven time and time again that his character can survive the ages, and I think this upcoming film would be a terrific way to send off the character we've loved for a couple decades.

2. Max Headroom 1987-1988

Reboot Should Be: A Film directed by James McTeigue

I was completely unaware of Max Headroom until just recently. This show is awesome! 20 minutes into the future, switching off your television is illegal, everyone has one, and it is the only way to consume media. The story starts when a TV reporter at the top rated Channel 2,3 Edison Carter, finds out blipverts (advertisements that shoot three ads into your mind in several seconds) are killing viewers of the television station. The station then plots to kill him and believes they did, leaving him clinically brain dead in a coma. Unfortunately for them, Edison's mind is transferred into a computer generated personality called "Max Headroom." From then on, Max and his rogue TV pirate controllers battle various networks and report the real news to this brave new world.

It's already on my must-watch list and I think it would make an incredible movie for James McTeigue to handle. Why? The whole series has a bit of a V For Vendetta sort of feel, and it seems like some parts of the movie were inspired by the show.

 1. AirWolf 1984-1986

Reboot Should Be: A Movie

Only thing you need to know? Airwolf is badass military helicopter armed to the teeth with high grade weapons and capable of traveling at the speed of sound. Screw the other '80s action shows, we are talking high tech battle helicopters and high flying action sequences that by today's standards are still pretty legit for a television show. It starts when the initial test of Airwolf goes awry when the pilot is out to keep the weapon for himself and goes rogue. We then meet Stringfellow Hawk (badass name), who is a renegade pilot (also badass) who will stop at nothing to find his brother. Because it's the '80s, a secret intelligence agency agrees to help him ONLY IF HE PILOTS A BADASS HELICOPTER AND GOES ON MISSIONS FOR THEM. Seriously, what was it with the 80's and the government being "we need you, but you need us." Did I mention he has a nemesis named Redwolf? C'mon, that's completely badass. Either way, do this as a movie, maybe make it a dystopian future with battle helicopters as the only form of combat. Here's the twist: make it cheeseball, but keep the action incredible the whole way through. Instant badass classic.

Any live action shows you want to see remade?

The early numbers say that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. might have had the biggest television debut in over a year. The first episode did a great job of setting things up, and I can't wait to see where the show takes us. It's got a perfect mix of action, humor, espionage, superpowers, gadgets, and drama.

The video gives us a great look forward into future episodes with lots of cool footage we've never seen before. I can't help but be even more excited for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. after watching it.

The series is described as a musical and visual journey into fable. The next three films are called Salvage, Her & The River, and Requiem. This one in particular was directed by Seb and Ben McKinnon, and one of the things that stuck out to me the most was the incredibly beautiful cinematography. I can't wait to see how the other ones turn out, but I'll make sure to post them as soon as they are released! I hope you enjoy the short!

FilmDistrict has released a new featurette for Oldboy. It features Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, and director Spike Lee discussing the new take on the ultimate story of revenge. It also includes some new footage from the movie. It'd be great if they could pull off an awesome movie, but I'm keeping my expectations low in hopes that it will exceed them. The movie comes out on November 27th, 2013. Check out the video and let us know if the actors and director were able to hype you up a little bit for the remake.

Catwoman Sneaks Into Sideshow's Sixth Scale Figure Line

Catwoman_Preview.jpg

Sideshow’s 6th Scale Figure line is known for its articulation and attention to detail, and both are present in their newest entry to the line, Ms. Selina Kyle, or as she is more commonly known, Catwoman. As is standard in these figures, all clothing and material on the suit is real, and Catwoman herself comes with a fair amount of accessories and interchangeable appendages, including 2 versions of her face, one flirty and the other a bit feisty. The exclusive version even comes with an Egyptian cat idol, probably similar to what inspired her Egyptian cat powers in that better off forgotten trainwreck of a movie.

Sorry about that. Just still irks me.

Anyway, Ms. Kyle here will retail for $189.99, but you can split that into payments as low as $63.33 a month, so you can, you know, eat and stuff after you order the thing. Regardless of how much it costs, Sideshow has recreated Selina stunningly, and this can't release soon enough.
