MINIONS Gets a New Release Date

minions-gets-a-new-release-date-header.jpg

Universal Pictures has moved the release of Illumination Entertainment's untitled Minions spin-off movie from December 19th, 2014, to July 10th, 2015. So if you were looking forward to seeing the movie, you're just going to have to wait six extra months.

The studio moved it because they were so happy with how well Despicable Me 2 did with its July release date that they are hoping to replicate that success with Minions. Despicable Me 2 has made $840.5 million to date.

I'm sure the movie will do fine regardless of when it's released. Everyone seems to love the Minions

This is the latest poster design for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. It was debuted by a fan, and it's a pretty badass image of Katniss. Apparently Lionsgate is going to the fans to help promote their highly anticipated film.  The poster was unlocked by Tori Dripple, who is the top fan of the film’s interactive viral marketing website, TheHungerGamesExplorer.com. I'm sure we'll start seeing more and more film marketing like this.

What If Bruce Timm Designed DC Comics' New 52?

DC Comics' New 52 has had a lot of mixed reviews. I personally haven't gotten behind any of the comic book reboots for DC or Marvel. The character designs for the New 52 were created by comic artist Jim Lee. Some of the art is cool, but I don't care for most of the character redesigns. What if they were designed by another another artist though... like Bruce Timm? Here's a cool series of fake comic covers that giv us a glimpse art what the New 52 would have looked like had it been designed by Timm, who is the man that created the look of the DC animated universe. What style do you prefer... Lee or Timm?

Colin Farrell and Paula Patton Wanted for WARCRAFT

Legendary Pictures and Duncan Jones are hard at working bringing the World of Warcraft to life on the big screen. They are currently in the process of casting the film, and according to Deadline, Colin Farrell has been offered a lead role, and Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol) is in negotiations. Nothing is confirmed right now with the casting, but this gives us an idea of the direction they are heading.

Jones will start shooting on January 13th 2014, and if it ends up looking like anything from the test footage shown at Comic-Con, it's going to be an amazing film.

There's also no official information on the story for the film, but it was previously rumored that the "film’s story is not an adaptation of World of Warcraft, and instead takes place around the events of the first couple of Warcraft games, ‘real time strategy’ classics of the mid-90s." To read up on more possible story and character details on the film, click here.

I can't wait to see what Jones does with this franchise. If Farrell and Patton end up being officially cast in the film you wont hear any complaints from me. I think they'll be great.

This is the full dark and moody trailer for Scarlet Johansson sci-fi, erotic, noir-style thriller called Under the Skin. In the film she plays an alien sent to earth to seduce and abduct human males. I'm not sure what reasoning is behind it, so I guess we'll just have to watch it to see. The movie comes from director Jonathan Glazer (Sexy Beast), and it will most likely be released sometime in 2014.

I've got a very different trippy and psychedelic animated short film called "Myosis." It's beautifully made, and this is the explanation that came along with it that inspired the short.

Myosis is the constriction of the iris which decreases the diameter of the pupil. It is an unconscious phenomenon which can be triggered by an intense light, fear, or the effect of epiphany.

The film was created by Emmanuel Asquier-Brassart, Ricky CometaGuillaume DousseAdrien Gromelle, and Thibaud Petitpas at Gobelins school of arts. I hope you enjoy it!

Warning - There is a bit of artistic nudity.

Cinderella_199884885858573632.jpg

Walt Disney Pictures has announced that director Kenneth Branagh has begun shooting their live-action adaptation of Cinderella at Pinewood Studios in London. They've also released the first image from the film featuring Lily James (Downton Abbey) in the title role. There's no doubt that Branagh is going to do some great things with this film. This is the official synopsis:

The story of Cinderella follows the fortunes of young Ella whose merchant father remarries following the tragic death of her mother. Keen to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother Lady Tremaine and her daughters Anastasia and Drisella into the family home. But, when Ella's father suddenly and unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella, Ella could easily begin to lose hope. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother's dying words and to "have courage and be kind." She will not give in to despair nor despise those who abuse her. And then there is the dashing stranger she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an employee at the Palace, Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul. It appears as if her fortunes may be about to change when the Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball, raising Ella's hopes of once again encountering the charming "Kit." Alas, her stepmother forbids her to attend and callously rips apart her dress. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand as a kindly beggar woman steps forward and, armed with a pumpkin and a few mice, changes Cinderella's life forever.

Below you'll find more information on the film from the press release:

Directed by Academy Award-nominee Kenneth Branagh (Jack Ryan, Thor), the film stars Lily James ("Downton Abbey," Wrath of the Titans) in the title role, Richard Madden ("Game of Thrones,"Birdsong) as the Prince, Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett (The Aviator) as the infamous stepmother Lady Tremaine, and Academy Award-nominee Helena Bonham Carter (The King's Speech, Alice in Wonderland) as the Fairy Godmother. Holliday Grainger (Great Expectations, Anna Karenina) and Sophie McShera ("Downton Abbey") play Ella's stepsisters Anastasia and Drisella, respectively. Stellan Skarsgård (The Avengers, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Nonso Anozie ("Game of Thrones," The Grey) play the Arch Grand Duke and the Prince's loyal friend, the Captain. Tony® Award-winner Derek Jacobi portrays the King.

Cinderella is produced by Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class, Elysium), Allison Shearmur (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), David Barron (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Jack Ryan), from a screenplay by Chris Weitz (About a Boy, The Golden Compass).

The filmmaking team includes three-time Academy Award-winning production designer Dante Ferretti (The Aviator, Hugo, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street), three-time Oscar-winning costume designer Sandy Powell (The Aviator, The Young Victoria, Shakespeare in Love), director of photography Haris Zambarloukos (Sleuth, Thor) and Academy Award-winning editor Martin Walsh (Chicago, Clash of the Titans).

The timeless story of "Cinderella" dates back to 1697 when first created by Charles Perrault, although it truly came to life for millions all over the world in 1950 with Walt Disney's celebrated animated feature.

Director Kenneth Branagh says: "It is impossible to think of Cinderella without thinking of Disney and the timeless images we've all grown up watching. And those classic moments are irresistible to a filmmaker. With Lily James we have found our perfect Cinderella. She combines knockout beauty with intelligence, wit, fun and physical grace. Her Prince is being played by Richard Madden, a young actor with incredible power and charisma. He is funny, smart and sexy and a great match for Cinderella."

Production on Cinderella will take place at Pinewood Studios and locations throughout England.

Cinderella will be released through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on March 13, 2015.

This is Christian Bale's audition/screen test for Christopher Nolan's Batman! It's interesting to see what he was looking to bring to the character before he even got cast. There are a few interesting things in the video to note. The first is that he's wearing Val Kilmer's Batsuit from Batman Forever. The second is that he does the read with actress Amy Adams, who was eventually cast as Lois Lane years down the road. And the final thing is that his voice wasn't as growly as it ended up in the final cut of the film, but you can still see why he ended up landing the gig.

The video is included with the Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector’s Edition, which will be released on Tuesday.

ESCAPE PLAN - New TV Spots, Clip, and Infographic

I think it's going to be fun watching Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone in the upcoming film Escape Plan. I'm sure it's going to have a lot of cheesiness, but that's one of the reason why we love watching these big action stars on the big screen.

Today we bring you two new TV spots and a film clip featuring Schwarzenegger and Stallone starting a fight as a diversion. I've also included an infographic that the studio has released.

One of the world's foremost authorities on structural security agrees to take on one last job: breaking out of an ultra-secret, high-tech facility called "The Tomb." Deceived and wrongly imprisoned, Ray Breslin (Sylvester Stallone) must recruit fellow inmate Emil Rottmayer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to help devise a daring, nearly impossible plan to escape from the most protected and fortified prison ever built.

The film also co-stars Jim Caviezel, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, and Vinnie Jones. It comes out on October 18th!

TERMINATOR 2 In The Words of Shakespeare - Trailer

Who would have ever thought that anyone would combine James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgement Day with William Shakespeare? Well, it's been done, and it actually looks really entertaining! This is a trailer for a stage production put on by Husky Jackal Theater in Nashville. Two years ago they launched a Kickstarter campaign that would allow them to perform and film their parody performance called Terminator: The Second.

William Shakespeare Presents: Terminator the Second is a parody of the film Terminator 2: Judgment Day, constructed solely of lines and phrases from the plays of William Shakespeare. Only proper nouns, pronouns and verb tenses are subject to change, enabling us to remain true to the words of Shakespeare in form, if less so in intent.

The play debuted on stage at the Nashville School of the Arts in 2011, and a DVD of the performance is in post-production. The movie will be available for download on November 1st. Enjoy the trailer!

According to Box Office Mojo, The Weinstein Company has set the release date for Jeff Bridges' big screen adaptation of The Giver for August 15th, 2014.

The film is based on the classic book written by Lois Lowry, and the story is set in a "colorless dystopian society that enforces Sameness and fears freedom. All memory of human history has been erased, emotion does not exist, and citizens' professions are chosen for them."

jeff-bridges-the-giver-has-a-release-date-header-1.jpg

Brenton Thwaites is playing the main character Jonas, the "community's Receiver of Memories who spends his days being mentored by the Giver (Bridges), who teaches him to confront and understand the lies that inform society. As Jonas comes to grips with living an unsheltered existence, he begins to acquire a taste for freedom and honesty, becoming an outcast in the process."

Meryl Streep is playing the community's Chief Elder, who maintains order in the seemingly utopian society. Alexander Skarsgard is playing Jonas' father, and Cameron Monaghan will play Jonas' best friend, Asher.

I'm looking forward to this movie, and I'm hoping the book gets the great film adaptation it deserves.

Even if you don't play Dungeons & Dragons you've got to check out this cinematic opening sequence for the spin-off MMO game, Neverwinter. I know the game was already released, but I just came across this beautifully animated sequence, and I had to share it. I figured if I haven't seen it yet, some of you haven't either.

The setting of Neverwinter takes place in a time when the eponymous city is plunged into chaos after the disappearance of the last Lord of Neverwinter. In the aftermath of the Spellplague and a Primordial Fire Elemental's almost destroying Neverwinter, as seen in the novel Gauntlgrym, the remaining citizens form factions and struggle for dominance over the populace as the dead begin to rise and attack "the city they once called home."
I hope you enjoy it!

THOR: THE DARK WORLD - New TV Spot

Marvel has released a new TV Spot for Thor: The Dark World, and they are being a little stingy with new footage. That's ok though! I actually don't mind them withholding footage. I'm already sold on seeing the movie; they don't need to show us anything else. That being said, the movie comes out in November, and I'm sure we'll get a new trailer and a bunch of new TV spots loaded with new footage before then. I'll be surprised if we don't. Thor: The Dark World hits theaters November 8th!

First Promo Trailer for Showtime's PENNY DREADFUL

After last night's disappointing Dexter finale, Showtime premiered the first promo trailer for their new supernatural, "psycho-sexual horror" series Penny Dreadful. It gives us a little tease of some of the monsters that we'll see. Here's a previously released description of the show,

In PENNY DREADFUL, some of literature’s most famously terrifying characters – including Dr. Frankenstein and his creature, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula – become embroiled in Victorian London.  The series weaves together these classic horror origin stories as the characters grapple with their monstrous alienation.

The series stars Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Eva Green, Reeve Carney, Rory Kinnear, Billie Piper and Harry TreadawaySkyfall scribe John Logan is set to write all eight episodes of the series, with the director of that movie, Sam Mendes, executive producing. The first two episodes will be helmed by director Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage).

There are a lot of solid, talented people developing this series, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Great Trailer for the Norwegian Adventure Thriller RAGNAROK

It looks like the Norwegians have made another great movie! I loved Kon-Tiki, but this new film dives into some fun, supernatural legends. It's an action adventure thriller called Ragnarok. Here's what the movie is about,

Archeologist Sigurd Svendsen (Pål Sverre Hagen) has for years been obsessed with the Oseberg Viking ship. The only inscription found on the ship is the enigmatic 'man knows little' written in runes. Sigurd is sure that the Oseberg ship contains the answer to the mystery of Ragnarok, the end of days in Norse mythology. When his friend Allan finds similar runes on a stone from the north of Norway, Sigurd becomes convinced that the runes are in fact a treasure map. Together they mount an expedition group and their adventure leads to "No man's Land" between Norway and Russia, which has been deserted for decades. Here Sigurd learns the true meaning of the runes - a secret more terrifying than he could possibly imagine.

The movie was directed by Mikkel Sandemose, and stars Pål Sverre Hagen, Nicolai Cleve Broch, Bjørn Sundquist and Sofia Helin. Magnolia Pictures will release the film in the U.S. in October of this year. I imagine it will be a limited release though. Enjoy the trailer!

A few new TV spots have been released for the new big screen adaptation of Stephen King's classic horror story, Carrie. The spots, one of which is international, feature more new footage from the movie. This movie has a lot of great talent involved, so it looks like it's going to be a great movie. Hopefully it's as good as it looks.

The movie stars Chloë Grace Moretz, Judy Greer, and Julianne Moore, and it comes out on October 18th!
