25 Posts Of Geek Christmas Day 2: Top 7 Festive Geek Songs

"This is honestly the most bland picture we've ever had on the site."

Day 2 is upon us geeks, and I wouldn't have to be a gambling man to wager your Christmas songs are out of date. Luckily for you we comprised a list of geeky, off beat songs for you to have this holiday season.

Some you are sure to know, hopefully some are new to you! When you are done be sure to post your personal favorites in the comments to share with the community!

7. The Killers - "Don't Shoot Me Santa"

Imagine if Santa got tired of your s*** after years of being on the naughty list and decided to take matters into his own hands. While "Don't Shoot Me Santa" may not be the geekiest on the list, it sure would've been a welcome addition to that horrible Christmas horror film Santa's Slay.

6. August Burns Red- "Carol of The Bells"

While we are on the subject of bad movies, this next little gem on our list was able to make The Spirit look watchable (which is saying a lot). With an aggression that would make Trans Siberian Orchestra s*** it's pants, August Burns Red holds a deserving spot on our list.

5. Chewbacca The Wookie- "Silent Night"

Not official. Not real. Still hilarious. Nuff said.

4. Fountains of Wayne- "I Want An Alien For Christmas"

Considering this is the same one hit wonder band who brought us "Stacy's Mom", I'm impressed. Very catchy for believers and non-believers alike.

3. Blazer Force- "Electronic Santa"

TOO...INCREDIBLY CATCHY....MUST....RESIST....SINGING....TO SELF..........ALL...DAY.

2. Weezer- "Christmas Song"

If you feel Weezer gets a geek pass sometimes just because of they way they look...well...you'd be somewhat right. Either way this song is legit, and that you can't deny.

1. MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER- "Deck The Halls"

So awesomely geeky that I doubt any of our other songs would be around had they not blazed the trail in the 80's. With a music video in which a child gets his mind blown by a paranormal Christmas card, it's a classic and sits well deservedly at the top of our list!

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES - Full Prologue Details Revealed!

$

Warner Bros. has released the full details for that The Dark Knight Rises prologue footage that we've been hearing about recently. It's been confirmed that the special prologue will be shown in select IMAX screenings of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol starting on December 16th. Full details for the event can be found below in the official press release. It includes the 42 locations that the screening will be held. I can't wait to see this, hopefully it's playing in your area so you can see it as well!

Here's the info!

Warner Bros. Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” — the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy — is one of the most anticipated films of 2012, but moviegoers won’t have to wait until next year to see the six-minute opening sequence of the film. The film’s prologue will be unveiled exclusively in select 70mm IMAX® theatres worldwide. The announcement was made today by Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, and Veronika Kwan-Rubinek, President of International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

The Prologue will be released in North America on December 16, and in the UK on December 21, 2011. Additional international dates vary by territory and will be announced soon.

In making the 2008 blockbuster “The Dark Knight,” Nolan was the first to use IMAX® cameras in a major motion picture release, and, as now, audiences were given an advance look at that film’s prologue months prior to the Summer 2008 opening. Nolan employed the extremely high-resolution cameras even more extensively on “The Dark Knight Rises”—including the film’s prologue—to achieve unprecedented crispness and clarity and a truly immersive experience for the moviegoers.

Christopher Nolan stated, “Our experience on ‘The Dark Knight’ shooting and projecting IMAX 15 perf 65mm/70mm film was inspiring. The immersive quality of the image goes beyond any other filmmaking tool available, and in revisiting Gotham, we were determined to shoot even more of the movie in this unique format. Giving the fans an early look at an IMAX sequence is a great way to draw attention to what I believe will be an incredible way to experience our story when it comes out next summer.”

New Line developing Earthquake film SAN ANDREAS: 3D

It has been a bit since a true disaster movie has been released. The wait is over because New Line Cinema is prepping an epic earthquake disaster film titled San Andreas: 3D. According to the LA Times the script was penned by Allan Loeb. Loeb’s credits include 21, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and the upcoming Rock of Ages. San Andreas will be produced by Beau Flynn (Journey to the Center of the Earth, Red Dawn).

Get ready for “The Big One” here is the description of the film:
[T]he hero is forced to go on the road to reconcile with his children and his estranged wife, who's moved away and taken up with another man a la John Cusack's character in "2012." (According to a person who's read the script, the "San Andreas" hero makes the trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco using some rather, er, unconventional transportation.
Disaster movies are hit and miss with me. San Andreas sounds like they are not doing anything new or unique, aside from adding 3D. If the visual effects are good, then this could be decent. What are your thoughts?

EMPIRE STRIKES BACK - Never Before Seen Hoth Battle Storyboard Art

The battle that took place on Hoth in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is in my mind one of the greatest battle scenes in all of the Star Wars films. I remember seeing this scene for the first time and being completely blown away by it. Even to this day it's awesome to watch!

Here we have a never before seen collection of storyboard art detailing the Hoth battle sequence. It gives you a good look at how this scene was planned out before it went in front of cameras. According to io9, "These boards and are based on the fifth draft of the script for the movie — and most of the boards here are being shown publicly for the first time."

The work you see hear was actually done by Captain America director Joe Johnston before he became a director. He's also the guy who created the badass suit for Boba Fett. It also includes storyboard art from Nilo Rodis-Jamero.

Check out the collection of Hoth bottle storyboard art below, which is presented in chronological order of the sequence. Enjoy!

Marion Cotillard Offiered Role in ARTHUR & LANCELOT

It looks like David Dobkin's Arthur & Lancelot film has found one of it's leading ladies. It's being reported that Inception co-star Marion Cotillard has been offered the role of Morgana in the film. The character Morgana is the sorceress half-sister to Arthur.

If Cotillard decides to take on the role she will join Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) who will be playing Lancelot in the movie. There's still very little information on this film, all we know is that it will be "a contemporary re- imagining of the classic tale." The studio is still on the hunt for who will play Arthur.

Warner Bros. plans on releasing the movie on March 15th, 201.

Geek Art: Awesome Female ASSASSINS CREED Character Art

A few months ago we shared an image with you showing off what a female lead character in the video game Assassins Creed might look like. I have a new image to show you today giving us a different imagining of what a female character might look like. I think this new design gives us a much better take on the material. This image shows a more hard badass warrior look. The other image had a much softer look and doesn't look like she could kick anyone's ass.

The image above was created by CGHUB artist ChangMing. What are your thoughts on it?

Trailer for Joel Edgerton's Sundance Film WISH YOU WERE HERE

Now that the film line-up for the 2012 Sundance Film Festival has been unleashed we're going to start seeing some trailers and images for many of these movies.

Today a trailer has been released for a film called Wish You Were Here, which is set to premiere at Sundance. It stars Warrior and The Thing star Joel Edgarton. Edgerton is a rising star in Hollywood who got his big break from the Sundance hit Animal Kingdom. This new movie looks like a pretty intense pshycological thriller.

Here's the synopsis:

Four friends lose themselves in the fun of a carefree South East Asian holiday. Only three return home. Who amongst them knows what happened on that fateful night when they were dancing under a full moon in Cambodia?

The film also stars Teresa Palmer, Felicity Price and Antony Starr. It was written and directed by Kieran Darcy-Smith. Felicity Price also co-wrote the film. Wish You Were Here was shot on location in Sydney and Cambodia. The film will have its world premiere on opening night at the Sundance Film Festival on January 19th 2012. Check out the trailer and tell us what you think!

First look: HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton

Here is our first look at Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, which arrives in theaters on March 2. The story is a revisionist take on the classic fairy tale. Paramount Pictures is releasing the first trailer next Thursday, so stay tuned. The photo above gives us a good look at Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton). The movie was directed by Dead Snow’s Tommy Wirkola.

Arterton recently spoke to EW about the tone of the film and revealed that it is a mix of Pulp Fiction and fairly tale. Here are some excerpts from the interview:

How does this movie incorporate the original Brothers Grimm tale? Is that story kind of a prologue?

GEMMA ARTERON: Yes, it continues it. You see a series of flashbacks with their experience of killing that first witch, which is brilliant. I remember being on set for the final few days of that. The candy house, and the witches are really repulsive and quite frightening. The make-up is out of this world. It’s this bone-chilling scene. Very dark. The girl who plays my character is brilliant, with the horrified expression she has.
Folk-tales like this have been told over and over again, changing every time.
What’s the constant that your movie picks up?
They resonate with your fears, that’s how these fairy tales worked. They scared you into behaving. This one in particular is about abandonment and being lost and parents leaving you. The heart of it is that these kids grow up to be bloodthirsty witch hunters. It’s a bit tongue in cheek, really.
What would Hansel and Gretel be in 15 years time?
Though it’s comedic, deep down it’s about abused kids becoming kind of hyper-responsible?
But it’s also very, very dark, and bloodthirsty and there’s a lot of cursing. It’s kind of got a [Quentin] Tarantino feel, really.

Interesting. So instead of Jules and Vincent, we have Hansel and Gretel. And beyond being killers, they’re siblings who feel they need to protect each other?

We spent a lot of time thinking about that and behaving like brother and sister, making it detailed so it wasn’t just two actors kicking butt, really. That would get boring. In our minds, these are two people who grew up with no parents and they only have each other and the bond they have, and with the complexities of that, some resentment.

First Look at Sam Worthington in WRATH OF THE TITANS

$

Here's our first look a Sam Worthington as Perseus running around with big devil pitchforks in the Jonathan Liebesman directed film Wrath of the Titans. This is the sequel to the terrible Clash of the Titans remake, and Worthington looks much like he did in the first film. The movie also stars Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Rosmund Pike and Edgar Ramirez. The film is set to be released on March 30th 2012 and I can't say I'm very excited about seeing it. That remake just left such a bad taste in my mouth. What do you think about this sequel?

Here's the synopsis for the film:

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus—the demigod son of Zeus—is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius.

Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity's lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld.

Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus' godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramírez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans' strength grows stronger as Zeus' remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth.

Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon's demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Here is the red band trailer for Tim & Eric's Billion Dollar Movie. We shared the teaser yesterday. This is the stupidest piece of crap to be made into a movie ever. I would rather watch (INSERT WORST MOVIE HERE) in a loop, instead of having to watch this movie ever.

This is from the guys who did Tim & Eric Great Show Awesome Job. The title of that show should be changed to Tim & Eric Shitty Show Horrible Job while we are at it. I frankly have no idea why I am even writing this post up!?!? Oh I remember, to tell you how much of craptastic film this is and remind you to avoid it when it comes to theaters.

JOHN CARTER - 3 New Banners for the Sci-Fi Epic

$

Disney has released three new banners for their sci-fi film John Carter, and adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs classic novel Princess of Mars. Yesterday a decent looking trailer was released for the film that you should check out if you haven't already. Like many of you I really wanted this story to get the best big screen adaptation possible, and I hope this turns out to be it, but I'm not sure yet. I guess I won't know for sure until I see the movie.

After watching that last trailer do you think the movie will be better than what you were expecting?

The film has a solid cast of actors that includes Taylor Kitsch, Lynn CollinsSamantha MortonMark StrongCiaran HindsDominic WestJames PurefoyDaryl SabaraPolly WalkerBryan CranstonThomas Hayden Church, and Willem Dafoe.

Synopsis:

From Academy Award(R)-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes “John Carter”–a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

The movie is set to be released on March 9th 2012.

I absolutely love the fight choreography work in Batman: Arkham City. It's awesome to see Batman and Catwoman flipping around and kicking ass when being attacked by several thugs. Thousand Pounds Action Company got together and recreated a helluva awesome Catwoman fight scene with a stunt womannamed Mickey Facchinello who ruthlessly takes out gang of thugs with some pretty incredible combos, and of course... a whip! This is truly impressive... watch the video below and tell us what you think!

Now that M. Night Shyamalan has joined Twitter we will hopefully get some nice updates about One Thousand A.E. that stars Will and Jaden Smith. The film focuses on what happens when “a young boy and his father’s spaceship crash lands on Earth one thousand years after humans abandoned it.” Shyamalan twteeted that he is nine weeks away from shooting and announced that the film is now titled After Earth.

Here are some of his tweets:
I draw out every shot on my films. Just finished the second pass of them for After Earth. 676 shots! Four months of work.

9 weeks out from shooting After Earth. Looking at paintings/photos to find the tone of the film. Andrew Wyeth paintings always inspire me.
His co-writer, Gary Whitta, has also been tweeting about the film:
Just had a great chat with @MNightShyamalan about how pre-production is coming along on AFTER EARTH. Sounds fantastic, can’t wait to see it!

Paramount hires ORPHAN scribe to pen LAST MAN STANDING

$

Paramount has found it’s writer for the upcoming sci-fi adaptation of Last Man Standing. Variety reports that Orphan scribe David Leslie Johnson has been hired to adapt Daniel LuVisi's graphic novel. The novel was a HUGE hit at Comic-Con this year, selling out in less than two hours.

The novel was recently published by Kevin Eastman's Heavy Metal label. LuVisi took 2 ½ years to make the novel, which is now being expanded into a comic book series and multi-platform franchise property.  It tells the story, “set 600 years in the future, follows an invincible soldier created to help Earth win a war against Mars. After becoming a celebrity hero, he's framed for a heinous crime by a terrorist organization. After a nine-year prison sentence, he escapes and sets out to even the score.”

Johnson broke onto the scene with Orphan and recently penned the Red Riding Hood, and co-wrote Wrath of the Titans for WB and Legendary Pictures. Lets hope that Last Man Standing is no where near the level of Red Riding Hood. I love futuristic sci-fi movies, so I think I will like this. What are your thoughts?

Seth Green and ROBOT CHICKEN team partner to launch stop-motion animation studio

Seth Green’s Robot Chicken team have joined forces with Budy System to launch a new studio. Deadline reports that Green and Matthew Senreich’s Stoopid Monkey Prods (creators/executive producers of Emmy-winning animated series Robot Chicken) are partnering with Buddy Systems’ John Harvatine IV and Eric Towner to launch Stoopid Buddy Stoodios. The studio is set to be a stop-motion animation production facility for their joint and individual animated projects, which will be produced under the new company’s banner. The studio will also host outside stop-motion animation projects.

Their first production will be the sixth season of Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken and the shows tribute to the characters in the DC Comics universe. This means that ShadowMachine Films, the producere of the series, will no longer be involved in it. The shows 100th episode airs January 15.

Stoopid Monkey and Buddy Systems first collaborated earlier this year when they launched the YouTube live-action-meets-stop-motion animation show, Stoopid Monkey. Towner and Harvatine started as animators of seasons 2 and 3 of Robot Chicken before founding stop-motion production company Buddy System Studios four years ago. The company has had pilots set up at MTV Networks and Disney XD. Green and Senreich are also very busy. They consult for Lucasfilm’s animated Star Wars comedy series, produce online reality show www.ControlTV.com and serve as executive producers on Adult Swim’s Titan Maximum.

This sounds like a smart partnership. It will be interesting to see what type of other projects come out of the studio. What is your favorite stop-motion animation show or movie?

Benicio Del Toro not playing Khan in STAR TREK sequel says J.J. Abrams

$

0

There has been a lot of talk about who Benicio del Toro would play in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek sequel ever since it was announced he was sought for a role in November. According to Latino Review, del Toro will be playing the role of none other than Khan in the highly anticipated sequel. Not long after that news broke, HitFix is reporting that he will in fact NOT be playing the iconic character.

Who to believe?! Latino Review's El Mayimbe is fairly reliable in his news. On the flipside, HitFix's Drew McWeeny spoke directly to Abrams, who is directing the film. Based on that I personally believe Abrams over the Latino Review post. There have been instances of directors fabricating information to keep their plot undere wraps.

Here is what Abrams had to say about Del Toro as Khan - "Not true."

Alice Eve was just added to the cast this past week, and is reportedly going to be new to the canon. Del Toro may be in the film, but is not likely to play Khan. I have a feeling that Abrams, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof are a tad bit more creative than to make a rehash of Wrath of Khan.

Filming is slated to start in early 2012 with Paramount planning to release the pic on May 17, 2013.  There is still one more major role left to cast. It is rumored to be another villain, “someone who's older and in more of a supporting character to del Toro.”

What are your thoughts on this news? Who do you think del Toro will play?

Today's gift involves freaky dirty movie watching old wookies, friendly storm troopers, Carrie Fisher singing, and the whole Star Wars crew getting all Yellow Submarine for a hot minute. Yes it's the much hyped Star Wars Life Day Special, and it's all on here for you to enjoy. If I seem a little out of it, it's because my mind is blown from watching the whole thing....oh yeah, part five drags a little bit the first 25 seconds so watch out for that.

Once again to prevent browser shutdown I just uploaded the first two which you can alternate which one to buffer from there. For those of you who suck at Roman Numerals it goes, I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, IX, X, XI, XII, Ending...you really wanna watch it all...trust me lol.
