Joseph Kosinski Updates on TRON 3 and THE BLACK HOLE

$

With Tron: Legacy and Oblivion under his belt, director Joseph Kosinski is ready to focus his efforts on the development of Tron 3 and his remake of Disney's The Black Hole. While talking to Entertainment Tonight, Kosinski gave a brief update on where these films currently stand.

"Both projects are being written right now by two really talented writers. Jon Spaihts is writing Black Hole and Jesse Wigutow is writing TRON 3. Both scripts are in progress, I'm really excited about both. The fundamental ideas of both are really interesting. The TRON sequel kind of takes where we left off with 'Legacy,' that idea presented in the last few minutes of the film and really expands on it in a really exciting way."

The director is then asked about The Black Hole and it's a remake or a reboot. This was his reply,

"I guess I would call it a reboot because the fundamental concept is there but we are taking it in our own direction."

When it comes to movies, do you think that reboots and remakes are the same thing? Or is there a difference in your mind? I think reboot is just a nicer way to say remake.

Whatever the case may be, Kosinski is a talented visual director, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he ends up doing with both of these films. I'd like to see him get to Tron 3 first though. He gave that franchise such a cool look! Hopefully the script turns out a little better this time around.

Hilarious Red-Band Trailer for HELL BABY!

"I assure you... the devil is real, and he's a dick."

Here's a new red-band trailer for the horror comedy Hell Baby, and it's a lot better than the first trailer they released. This one gives you a better look at what this movie is really like, and how funny it is. This trailer is NSFW due to vulgarity and some nudity.

Rob Corddry (“Children’s Hospital,” Hot Tub Time Machine) and Leslie Bibb (Iron Man) star in Hell Baby, a horror comedy about an expectant couple forced to enlist the help of the Vatican’s elite exorcism team after they move into a haunted fixer-upper in New Orleans. The hilariously zany feature directing debut of writing-acting duo Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon (Night at The Museum, Reno 911!: Miami), Hell Baby also stars Keegan Michael Key (“Key and Peele,” Due Date), Michael Ian Black (This is 40), Riki Lindhome (Million Dollar Baby), Rob Huebel (“Children’s Hospital,” The Descendants) and Paul Scheer (“The League”).

The horror comedy comes from Reno 911! creators Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant. They wrote and directed the film, which stars Rob Corddry, Leslie Bibb, Keegan Michael Key, Riki Lindhome, Paul Scheer, and Rob Huebel.

I had a blast watching this movie. It was one of my favorites at Sundance, and you have to see it! It really is packed full of great comedy and unexpected twists and turns. You can read my review for it here and watch our video review here.

The movie hits VOD on July 25th and in theaters on September 6th.

Talks are Underway for ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Season 5!

For those of you like me who enjoyed Arrested Development season 4 and were looking forward to a season 5, you'll be happy to hear that negotiations are underway! Executive producer Brain Grazer told Bloomberg that they are in talks with Netflix saying,

"We are in conversations with them to do another. They are interested in doing that."

Of course they are! Netflix CEO Reed Hastings had this to say about a month ago,

"Arrested is unique, because [whether or not it comes back is] really up to the talent. If the talent were willing to do more, and interested in that, I’m sure we would be willing."

I truly hope they can make it work and bring the team back together for another season! I'm sure they already have some great ideas with what they would like to do with these hilarious characters. Are you looking forward to a fifth season of Arrested Development?

THE GUIDED FATE PARADOX: Strategy Dungeon Crawling Outside the Box

The Guided Fate Paradox is a new title from fan favorite developer of the weird and zany, Nippon Ichi. They're also developers of the cult hit Disgaea, and you can definitely see some similarities in their new title, from its overall look (higher res 2D Sprites on 3D backdrops) to certain aspects of its gameplay. While that's great news on its own, what really gets me giddy is how you are no longer restricted to one plane. In the trailer you can see the characters walk on multiple sides of the environment, and have abilities that take advantage of that as well (as seen in the tower image above). That opens up a ton of strategic options in a game that at its core is a strategy dungeon crawl. As for the story, well, its a wonderfully ridiculous tale of a high school student named Renya who wins the lottery in a mall, and the prize is not money, but the chance to become a god. Throw in an interesting group of angels and you've got yourself 60 to 80 hours of crazy fun.

Also saw a prinny hat being worn in one of the screens, so there are hats too. Not a huge feature, but I like hats. Stop looking at me like that.

Anyway, I can't wait for this game, as its the perfect amount of "wha?" and "amazing" I've been craving this year. Make sure to check out the screens and the trailer below, and if you like what you see make sure to check the game out when it releases later this fall.

EW

J.J. Abrams' new sci-fi series Almost Human is headed to Comic-Con and Fox has released a poster in anticipation of the pilot screening taking place on Wednesday. The series stars Karl Urban and Michael Ealy, and here's the story summary:

Almost Human is a high-tech, high-stakes action drama set 35 years in the future, when police officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids. An unlikely partnership is forged when a part-machine cop (Urban) is forced to pair with a part-human robot (Ealy) as they fight crime and investigate a deeper cover-up in a futuristic new world.

I've included a couple of promo trailers for the series below. It looks like it will be a really cool series.

ELYSIUM - International TV Spot and Featurette

Neill Blomkamp's Elysium could very well end up being better than District 9. The sci-fi action film looks amazing. Sony Pictures has released a new international TV spot and featurette from Moviefone with new footage that you can check out below.

Elysium stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Wagner Moura, Alice Braga, and William Fitchner. It opens in theaters on August 9th.

There will be a panel for the film at Comic-Con, and I can't wait to hear more about the film and see what they have to show us!

Elysium - Clip No. 1

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet’s crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium – but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens’ luxurious lifestyle. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

X-FORCE and MAGNETO Movies Confirmed by Rob Liefeld

Yesterday news hit the internet that 20th Century Fox had registered the domain name X-ForceMovie.com, leading many people to believe that the studio plans to make an X-Force film, which isn't too far-fetched. Especially since X-Force creator Rob Liefeld confirmed it on Twitter, as well as a Magneto movie.

It all started when X-MenFilms.com found the domain name and Bleeding Cool revealed that Fox will be using Comic-Con to make the official announcement during their panel for X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

"This past week or so, we’ve been “off camera,” chasing rumours that Fox are on the verge of announcing plans for their extended X-Men movie universe. We were tipped off that they will – unsurprisingly – be using their panel at Comic-Con as the launch pad."

Liefeld said that he was informed that the X-Force movie was in development in March, and went on to say,

"And by informed, I mean told that an X-Force film was in the planning stages. Much different than shooting a film."

Then he confirmed that the studio is still developing their Magneto film!

"When they cast an X-Force film then its reason to celebrate. They have a Magneto film in 'development' as well. Proceed with caution."

The last thing I saw him tweet was,

"Cross your fingers and hope for good things for X-Force. Being ON the radar is much better than not!"

There's a strong possibility that the studio could be announcing more than one new X-Men universe movie as well. I really hope Deadpool is another! We could also see New Mutants, X-Factor, and X-Statix.

The panel kicks off in Hall H at 4.15 PM on Saturday July 20th. Would you like to see Fox make an X-Force movie?

X-Force was launched in the early 90s by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld. The team is a more militant and aggresive counter part to the X-Men. The original team consisted of characters such as Cable, Cannonball, Domino, Warpath, and Deadpool, and later incarnations featured Wolverine, Psylocke, Sunspot, and Colossus.

Incredible Trailer for a Fantasy Short Called DUST

Hot damn! You've got to watch this trailer for a short fantasy film called Dust. The production value is off the charts, and it looks incredible. The special effects are also extremely impressive. I'm sure this is going to be picked up by a major studio and adapted into a full length feature film.

The short was directed by Mike Grier, who shot it in 11 days in abandoned rural areas in Japan. The project was funded by Kickstarter last year, and he took the money and put it to good use! Here's the synopsis:

Dust takes place in a world of rapid evolution. Each year new species and adaptations alter the balance of their ecosystems. Technology and deep tradition exist as symbiotic opposites dividing people who live in the countryside from those who live in walled cities. Amidst this cultural turmoil, nature offers up an unexpected challenge.

Watch the trailer below. I can't wait to see the full short! Hell, I can't wait to see the feature film! The filmmakers will have a booth at Comic-Con next week, so I'll have to make sure to stop by and give them a high five.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 - New Details on Spidey's Suit

$

0

We've been seeing a lot of great photos from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 recently, and now we've got some possible new details on the film. Some of the information focuses on Spider-Man's new suit, revealing that it now has a built in MP3 player. There's also some speculation on Gwen's death and how Andrew Garfield felt about the script that was written for it.

Here are the details that were posted on the Superhero Hype Forums (via: CBM) by a user who has had a pretty solid track record of posting stuff about the film. Here it is.

I'll post the facts...I can't post the pics with the pop ups because they don't all pop up at once and it would be too many pics but by this point you all know what Spidey looks like...and i misquoted Avi..when it comes to changing the costume he says they listened to the world..at that point, Marc, the costume designer and others set out to redesign it
Eyes-"We've got the best eyes of any suit," says Webb. "Really big, very warm white eyes." Unlike the eyes in the last suit, which were smaller and yellow, these are as large as possible given the size of Andrew Garfield's head. "They're very expressive in their own way," says costume designer Deborah Scott.
Web Symbol -Traditionally, the Spidey suit has a weblike graphic on the chest. This time, costumer took an extremely mathematical and precise approach, says Scott, plotting out the design on a computer in 3-D form. The little-red brick patter is intended as an homage to the Tobey Maguire era suit. "You don't want it flat," she says. "That wouldn't be interesting."
The color -One of the biggest challenges was determining the exact shades of red and blue for Spider-Man's suit. Scott chose hues that are much darker than the last suit's, she says, with richer tones.
The belt -sharp-eyed viewers of the 2012 film noticed that spider-man didn't wear a belt. "It's there in the source material, so this one does," says Scott. Why exactly does Spidey need a belt? "I don't know," she says. "He just always has. There are rules to comic-book characters."
Web shooters-When redesigning the apparatus that Spidey uses to shoot webbing, there were practical questions to consider. "We wanted ours to have an MP3 player in it," says Scott. "You'll see early on in the film that he can turn music on that he's listening to inside the costume through his web shooter."
Reading it again, Webb says about all the speculation that Gwen dies: "You don't want to make those kinds of assumptions." When asked about the blog speculation and pictures online, he says he's bummed about some pics showing up online but he expected it.
"But we do want to maintain some mystery. Whatever you think is going to happen, you're going to be surprised.
And here's Andrew's exact quote about the script:
"One of the big struggles we had on the first one was to reinvent this already perfect character. This time we have this very, very good script that makes a lot of sense."
When Garfield first read the story for part 2, by screenwriters Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner, he was impressed by the careful balance it struck between Spider-Man's trickster humor and Peter's emotional depth.
"I almost cried," he says. "Because I was like, 'THIS is what we needed and this is what we were missing a bit on the first one.' I just felt like this warm rain of reassurance rushing through my soul. I was like, 'Okay, we're fine.' If we mess-up, it's my fault now."

You've got to watch this incredibly fun clip from a Wonder Woman animated short that will be shown this Saturday on Cartoon Network's DC Nation. The short was written and directed by Robert Valley, and it's got a great retro '70s style feel to it.

This short airs on Saturday, July 13th, at 10 AM EST/PST on Cartoon Network. Make sure to check it out! The last short release was Bat Man of Shanghai, and if you haven't seen it yet, I've included it below for you to watch as well.

I hope you enjoy these!

Martin Freeman Finishes Shooting THE HOBBIT

Director Peter Jackson has announced that Martin Freeman has officially finished his work on the last two Hobbit films. He posted a couple of photos on Facebook, one of which features Bilbo waving goodbye. Here's a note from Jackson,

"Tonight Martin Freeman finished his last shot as Bilbo Baggins. The end of an incredible two and a half years. I cannot imagine anyone else in this role - a character that Martin has nurtured and crafted with love and great skill.
We have said goodbye to our elves, humans, wizards and now the hobbit. We now enter our final 2 weeks of pick-ups, and it's wall to wall dwarves. These pick-ups have been gruelling and intense, but I'm so happy with what we've been shooting. These next two movies are going to be pretty great!"

I kind of hate that after these next two Hobbit movies come out Peter Jackson will never make another Middle Earth film. Do you think these movies will be remade by another director one day? I sure hope not!

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be released on December 13, 2013, and The Hobbit: There And Back Again has been set to open on December 17th, 2014.

Another Stunning U.S. Trailer for THE GRANDMASTER

The Grandmaster is finally set to be released in the U.S. on August 23rd, and a new trailer has been released for the badass looking martial arts film!

The film is based on martial arts legend Ip Man and was directed by Wang Kar Wai. The fight choreography was done by Yuen Woo-ping, and it stars Tony Leung, Zhang Ziyi, Chang Chen, Zhao Benshan, and Song Hye Gyo. The movie has already been released in Asia, and from what I've seen, the reviews have been solid.

Here's the synopsis for the film:

With martial arts getting more popular in the Thirties, more people seek to learn them via the professionals at Foshan in Southern China. Some of the experienced masters like to challenge their counterparts and undergoing battles. To have their whole concentration, it is their practice to lock up the venues and no one is allowed to leave during battles. No food and no rest before reaching any results.

Ip Man is a young rich man extremely talented in martial arts, but he chooses to keep a low profile. Yet this doesn't keep him out of these troubles ahead. One day he is trapped in this battleground so he has to use every means in order to get out of there. The masters are amazed by his abilities. Master Kung and his daughter Kung Yi are amongst, and the latter is attracted to this newcomer.

A high warlord is assassinated by his own guard Yi Xian Tian. All masters in Foshan vow to take Tian down no matter what....

I can't wait to see this thing!

KICK-ASS 2 Director Developing X-FORCE Movie!

It's been a big news day for Marvel's X-Force! Over the last few hours, news of a movie based on X-Force went from speculation about a domain name registered by Fox to X-Force creator Rob Liefeld that confirming it's in development.

Now THR is reporting that Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow is writing the script, which he could end up directing. They also say that X-Men franchise producer Lauren Shuller Donner is producing the film.

It's crazy how fast news can develop on projects like this. Fox is expected to make the official announcement at Comic-Con. Kick-Ass 2 looks like it's going to be a great movie, so I'm sure Wadlow will be able to give X-Force a solid adaptation.

X-Force was launched in the early '90s, and the team the original team consisted of characters such as Cable, Cannonball, Domino, Warpath, and Deadpool, and later incarnations featured Wolverine, Psylocke, Sunspot, and Colossus.

What do you think about Wadlow taking on X-Force?

Edgar Wright has been working on his Ant-Man script for YEARS! But he's now confirmed that he and Joe Cornish are finally finished with it.  The script has gone through several rewrites over the years, but the most recent one was to bring it in line with the rest of the Marvel cinematic universe.

Ant-Man will be the first film released in the third phase of Marvel's plan, and it's set to be released on November 6th, 2015. It will be interesting to see who they actually cast in the role. It's rumored that Armie Hammer is in the running, but we'll see how that pans out.

Here's the interview Wright did with Digital Spy

Guillermo del Toro Discusses His Apocalyptic HELLBOY 3

$

There's been a lot of talk about Hellboy 3 recently, and the talk continues. This time Director Guillermo del Toro chimes in with another update on Empire's Podcast, saying,

"[The groundswell of support for Hellboy 3] has been very active. It’s really quite big. And we need to do it in the next six or seven years because Ron [Perlman] isn’t getting any younger, and I don’t think you want Hellboy chasing anyone in a Rascal. We need to do it soon!
I could tell you the story from beginning to end right now. He turns into the beast of the apocalypse – spoilers there for those who like the comics – and needs to bring some apocalypse down. Right now, that bar has been raised considerably in the last three or four movies of the summer. Really bringing down the apocalypse is going to be a little expensive!
I haven’t seen [The World’s End] yet, but I’ve seen Star Trek Into Darkness, where accidentally they destroy half of San Francisco. I’m not sure if Hellboy 3 will happen. I asked Mike [Mignola, the creator of the Hellboy comics for Dark Horse Comics] if I could do it as a comic instead, and he said the comics were his domain. ‘In the comics, Hellboy does what I tell him to do,’ he says. That’s fair.
So if that doesn’t work out, I’ll hold camp fires and sing Kumbayah and tell the story to everyone who wants to listen to it. Let’s do this: the moment Ron gets a Rascal, I’ll come back to the podcast tell you all the whole story."

Sitting around a campfire listening to Del Toro tell his Hellboy 3 story!? I'd be up for that! He should do it at Comic Con in Hall H next week. I'm sure everyone would love to hear it!

Of course I'd love to see the movie happen, but at this point who knows if it ever will? Del Toro doesn't seem too confident that the studios will give him what he needs to make it happen.

Dark Sky Films has released a new trailer for Frankenstein's Army, and it looks absurdly fantastic! I enjoy watching movies like this, and this one looks like it will be extremely fun! I love the monster army creation designs!

The was directed by Richard Raaphorst, it stars Karel Roden (Hellboy, The Bourne Supremacy), and here's the synopsis:

In the waning days of World War II, a battalion of Russian soldiers find themselves lost in enemy territory. Stumbling upon a village decimated by an unseen terror, they discover that a mad scientist (Hellboy's Karel Roden) conducts experiments to fuse flesh and steel, creating an unstoppable army of undead soldiers. Johnny Depp Will Reprise Mad Hatter Role in ALICE IN WONDERLAND 2

Johnny Depp is going to continue keeping Disney happy by returning as the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland 2. According to Deadline, he's in final negotiations with the studio to star in the film which is being helmed by Muppets director James Bobin. That's right, if you haven't heard, Tim Burton won't be back, and I think that's a good thing because I didn't really care for what he did with the first movie. I think it could have been a lot better.

Depp recently starred in The Lone Ranger, which completely bombed. But a couple bad movies like that and Dark Shadows won't hurt his career. The actor is very much in demand, and Disney still wants to be in business with him. The Lone Ranger does prove, though, that even Depp's name can't save a bad movie that people don't want to see.

The actor is also set to star in Pirates of the Caribbean 5 with Kon Tiki directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. He's also in negotiations to star in another non-Disney film called Mortdecai, which is an an adaptation of the book The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery by Kyril Bonfiglioli.

Are you excited to see that Depp is coming back to play the Mad Hatter?

12-Year-Olds Go to War in Must Watch I DECLARE WAR Trailer

You've got to watch this fantastic trailer for an upcoming movie called I Declare War, which centers on very intense game of capture the flag between two teams of 12-year-olds. The story is a mix of reality and fantasy, and the line between the two becomes blurred as the game goes on. Here's the synopsis,

Armed with nothing more than twigs, their imaginations and a simple set of rules, a group of 12-year-olds engaged in a lively game of Capture the Flag in the neighborhood woods start dangerously blurring the lines between make-believe and reality. Rocks = Grenades. Trees = Control towers. Sticks = Submachine guns. The youthful innocence of the game gradually takes on a different tone as the quest for victory pushes the boundaries of friendship. The would-be warriors get a searing glimpse of humanity's dark side as their combat scenario takes them beyond the rules of the game and into an adventure where fantasy combat clashes with the real world.

The film was directed by Jason Lapeyre and Robert Wilson, and it's being distributed by Drafthouse Films. It will be available on VOD, iTunes, and for digital download on July 26th and in select theaters on August 30th. Watch the trailer, and let us know if this is a movie you're looking forward to watching.
