CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Teaser Poster!

$

0

Marvel has released the first teaser poster for Captain America: The Winter Solider! Looks like that shield is going to see some epic battles. It looks pretty heavily worn.

The story picks up where The Avengers left off, "as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C. " This is going to be more of a direct sequel to The Avengers which is pretty cool. Hopefully it turns out just as good!

Captain America is one of my favorite Marvel characters, and I'm really excited about this sequel. Marvel will be holding a panel for the movie at Comic-Con where they will screen the first footage from the film. We'll be there to tell you all about it!

The Anthony and Joe Russo directed film stars Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Scarlett Johansson, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Hayley Atwell, Maximiliano Hernández, Robert Redford, and Georges St-Pierre.

The movie hits theaters on April 4th, 2014.

James Franco Joins VERONICA MARS

According to Zap2it, James Franco has joined the cast of the Veronica Mars movie.

According to their source, Franco will appear as himself in the film. "He'll be one of several celebrities in the movie who have been victims of a hidden camera scam. No, not like on 'Duped!' -- one of those reality shows where people get duped into doing stupid things like giving some stranger their car or a bunch of money. But the kind of scam where someone hides cameras in famous people's houses and tries to sell the videos."

Sounds like the perfect case for Veronica to take on. I imagine Franco's role in the story won't be very big, but it's cool that he's going to be a part of it.

The movie is being directed by Rob Thomas and stars Kristen BellTina Majorino (Mac), Percy Daggs III (Wallace), Enrico Colantoni (Keith), Daran Norris (Cliff), Francis Capra (Weevil), Chris Lowell (Piz), Ryan Hansen (Dick), Krysten Ritter (Gia), and Amanda Noret (Madison).

It was previously revealed that "life has taken Veronica away from Neptune. In the years since spoiling Keith's chances to be reelected sheriff, Veronica hasn't taken a case. But something big is about to bring her back home and back to her calling." Veronica and her former classmates will be returning to Neptune for their 10-year high school reunion. For more information on what you can expect to see in the film, click here.

Warner Bros. is set to distribute the movie, and it will have a presence at Comic-Con. For more of the Comic-Con details, click here.

Fan Made STAR WARS Ship Poster Series

Check out this awesome series of Star Wars fan made art featuring some of the main ships in the film series. They were created Vesa Lehtimäki, who has done a ton of great Star Wars art and LEGO photos over the years, some of which you can check out right here. Here's a note from the artist:

"These posters are really not much you've not seen before, by that I mean that they are channeling the works of numerous other designers before me, like the always wonderful Justin Van Genderen and Sana Sini, to name some. I tried to avoid direct copying (I don't like that), but at some point I realized I cannot make these that much different after all, originality is hard, but I try."

"The Millennium Falcon is one of the most famous and original spaceships ever designed. It's asymmetrical which was rare before it came along. Here the Falcon shoots up against Tatooine twin suns backdrop."

"The snowspeeder is a peculiar macine, aerodynamically totally awkward for atmospheric flight, yet it couldn't be more at home when roaring above the frozen mountains of the planet Hoth. One of the coolest ships ever – literally. Here, a steep ascent against the three moons of hoth."

"The X-wing, probably the fastest looking fighter ever served in space. With the biggest cannons, no less. The design was somewhat based on a 1970's dragster car chassis, no wonder it looks fast. Here's the legendary Red 5 getting ready to lock S-foils in attack position and dive down to the trench of the Death Star."

"The Y-wing, what can I say, it's my personal favourite. I really like it's design because it's so tangible, I can easily imagine one in my garage ready for taking it out to spin, I can almost smell the hot oily engines. Here pictured against Yavin and it's moon, Yavin 4."

Great Trailer for January Jones' Western SWEETWATER

How in the hell did I miss this at the Sundance Film Festival? The movie is a western called Sweetwater. It stars January Jones and Ed Harrisand the story is set in 1886. It follows a young widow who risks everything to avenge her husband’s murder at the hands of a brutal sheep rancher. It's definitely a change of pace for Jones, in a good way. This could be a great role for her. It looks like a fantastic movie, and I'm kicking myself in the ass for not seeing it at Sundance because I love a good western.

Sarah, a former prostitute living on the New Mexico plains with her husband Miguel (Eduardo Noriega), who are both having to deal with overbearing landowner and religious fanatic Prophet Josiah (Jason Isaacs). When Josiah has Miguel killed, Sarah takes the law into her own hands on an intense journey of vengeance, with a renegade sheriff (Ed Harris) hot on her tail.

There's still no word on when the movie will get a U.S. release date, but it looks like a film worth keeping an eye on. Watch the trailer for yourself, and let us know if it's something you'd want to see.

The first gameplay video for Grand Theft Auto V is out, and things of course look better than ever. In addition to graphical enhancements, it looks like they put a lot more time into small things like scuba diving, tennis, and skydiving. Perhaps the most interesting feature is the ability to switch protagonists on the fly and join them in the midst of their average day. It's all in the video, check it out for more info.

PACIFIC RIM - 14 Minute "Making Of" Featurette

The reviews for Pacific Rim have been pouring out, and most that I've read have been extremely positive. The movie finally hits theaters this weekend, and after all the positive buzz I've read, I'm even more excited to see the movie! In anticipation of the film's release, Warner Bros. has released a 14-minute "Making Of" featurette filled with footage from the film, behind the scenes footage, and interviews with director Guillermo del Toro, the cast, and crew. If the reviews I've seen are right, Pacific Rim is going to deliver on the promise of absolute awesomeness.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Two Featurettes for THE WOLVERINE - "Logan" and HBO First Look

We've got two new featurettes for James Mangold's The Wolverine to share with you. The first is called "Logan" and obviously focuses on the badass character played by Hugh Jackman. The second one is part of the HBO "First Look" movie segment. Each one features Jackman discussing the movie and his character, saying that this is the best Wolverine that there is.

The movie will open in theaters on July 26th, and I'm looking forward to seeing Wolverine go ballistic and kick some ninja ass!

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

WALKING DEAD and STAR WARS Fan Art Mashup

Here's a fan art mashup of The Walking Dead and Stars Wars featuring the Jedi Michonne taking out a horde of Stormtrooper zombies on Tatooine. This would actually make a really fun comic series. The illustration above was created by PJ McQuade and here's a little background on it:

Tatooine has been infected with zombie stormtroopers. Who ya gonna call? Michonne from The Walking Dead of course! Pay attention JJ Abrams. Given her prowess with a samurai blade, I always picture her with a lightsaber.  We all know she's a total badass, but now she has interstellar credentials. She even has a pelt of decapitated bounty hunter heads - Bossk, Dengar and she's about to collect IG-88's tin noggin. Michonne has this cloak of mystery around her so I imagined her as a bounty hunter to muddy the Jedi waters. I see her as a mercenary of sorts, not always towing the Jedi line note for note (perhaps there was a falling out) but she's on the side of good when the sugar honey ice tea hits the fan, I think...

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger will be showing up at San Diego Comic-Con this year to promote their upcoming prison break thriller Escape Plan. They will be holding a panel for the film, and we just learned that they will also be hosting a screening of the film!

Summit Entertainment has announced that the screening of the film will take place at the Reading Cinemas Gaslamp 15 on Thursday, July 18th.

This movie looks great, and I really hope I get a chance to see it.  Getting tickets to these things is never easy, but someone has to get them, so you might as well try! Here are the details on how you can get tickets.

Passes for the screening will be available through online giveaways, at the Summit Booth on the convention floor and via giveaway outside the screening location, the evening of the event, while supplies last.
The fan line will open outside the theater (701 5th Ave.) at 5:00pm. Here fans will have another chance to score a ticket to the special screening and welcome Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger when they arrive on the red carpet.
On the convention floor, Summit's booth located within the Grand Hall will highlight Escape Plan. Exclusive premium promotional items will be distributed to the attendees walking the convention floor and visitors will have the opportunity to win fan screening passes throughout the day on Thursday, July 18th.
In the October 18 release, one of the world's foremost authorities on structural security agrees to take on one last job: breaking out of an ultra-secret, high-tech facility called "The Tomb." Deceived and wrongly imprisoned, Ray Breslin (Sylvester Stallone) must recruit fellow inmate Emil Rottmayer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to help devise a daring, nearly impossible plan to escape from the most protected and fortified prison ever built.

PORTLANDIA PSA Video On Real Nerds

Portlandia   is a fantastic show. It's always good at calling out the hip trendsetters and putting them in their place. Seriously though, who hasn't met someone who claimed they were geeky because "they like Batman" or "have been playing a lot of Zelda on their brother's N64?" Please, knowingly dedicate over 80 hours of your life to a sci fi series, or find yourself killing conversations in bars because you're too into potential Justice League casting lineups, then give me a call.

Disney Developing Live-Action JUNGLE BOOK Film

$

Disney is moving forward with a live action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic novel The Jungle Book.  They've hired Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li) to write the script for the film. Disney previously adapted the book into an animated feature back in 1967, and as a live-action film in 1994. The '90s adaptation was directed by Stephen Sommers and starred Jason Scott Lee and Lena Headey.

I'm sure you're all familiar with the story of The Jungle Book, but if you've been living under a rock your whole life it follows the adventures of a young boy named Mowgli, who was raised by wolves, and is friends with a bear named Baloo and a panther named Bagheera. One of the villains of the story is a tiger named Shere Khan.

According to THR, the studio is currently on the hunt for a director, and if they bring the right person on board, this has the potential to be a solid film. Marks also adapted the sci-fi short film The Raven, and wrote an early draft of the script for Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea reboot.

LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN TV Series in the Works

Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's classic graphic novel The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is set to get a pilot episode at Fox for a possible new series.

This really was a great comic, but I didn't really care for the first big screen adaptation. There's a good chance the series the network is planning will be better, especially with the production value networks are putting into their shows these days.

THR reports that the series will be a drama about a group of Victorian age literary characters, including Captain Nemo, the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde who team up to fight a common enemy.

Michael Green (Green Lantern, Kings, The River, Heroes, Smallville) will serve as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner if the pilot gets picked up for a full series. I hope they are able to create an awesome well made series.
