THE WOLVERINE Clip - Action Packed Train Fight Scene

$

20th Century Fox has released the first clip from The Wolverine, featuring an action-packed bullet train fight sequence. This scene is pretty damn cool, and I'm sure you're going to enjoy it. I'm sure this is just a little taste of the kind of action that is in store for us in this movie. I really hope this movie isn't a disappointment, because I'm freakin' excited about it! The James Mangold-directed film hits theaters on July 26th!

Thanks to Machinima.

The movie stars Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee.

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world, he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality.

Guillermo del Toro on Connecting JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK to MAN OF STEEL

As most of you already know, Guillermo del Toro is in the process of developing his Justice League Dark film that brings together DC comics supernatural and mystical characters such as John Constantine, Swamp Thing, the Demon, Deadman, the Spectre, and Zatanna. One of the last things we heard was that the film would be called Dark Universe.

While making the press rounds for Pacific Rim he was asked by MTV if he would consider making his Dark Universe an installment in a larger DC cinematic universe, and he seemed open to the idea.

"I think the great thing about the 'Dark Universe,' you have this possibility of basically creating a supernatural group, and you can play by different rules, but I would love to see the DC Universe become as cohesive as the Marvel film universe. So if there's any correlation, I will honor it."

Whatever the studio ends up doing with their DC universe, I really hope they decide to move Dark Universe into production when it's ready. Del Toro is still working on the script, and he's still waiting on a screenwriter to become available to work on it. He was then asked about the Hulk TV series he was working on, and if Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D kind of killed it. Sounds like it did,

"I have no idea, I literally just stopped hearing from them after the movie opened. I would call to see what's going on they said we're looking for this, or we're waiting for that, and it kind of just faded away."

That's a shame. I would have loved to see this Hulk series happen. As awesome as Marvel is at developing their films, they are a little weird when it comes to their TV develoments, especially with animation.

Who knows? Maybe we'll get an update on the development from some of these projects at Comic-Con.

New Poster for Spike Lee's OLDBOY Remake

"Ask not why you were imprisoned. Ask why you were set free."

Here's a new poster for Spike Lee's upcoming Oldboy remake, which stars Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, and Sharlto Copley. This is one of the craziest revenge stories ever, and I'm curious to see how Lee handled it. This new poster for the film features an actual shot from the film, and it's got an interesting look and tone. We'll get a better idea of what's in store for us on Wednesday when the first trailer is released.

OLDBOY is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

The movie is set to be released on October 25th.  While I hate that this movie got remade, at the same time I'm very curious to see how it's going to turn out. Hopefully it turns out better than what I'm expecting.

What kind of thoughts went through your head when you first saw this poster?

Early Guillermo del Toro Horror Short - GEOMETRIA

$

0

With Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim coming out later this week, I thought it would be cool to share one of of the director's early short films, Geometria. It's a fantasy horror comedy that he made back in 1987. The story basically follows a boy who is tired of failing geometry, so he summons a demon to help him out.

The movie is loosely based a short story by Fredric Brown called "Naturally," which was originally published in Beyond Fantasy Fiction and later reprinted in the short story collection Honeymoon in Hell. This is actually the tenth short film that Del Toro directed.  The director is a fanboy who had to work his ass off to get to where he is now. He just kept at it, making fun short films, and never gave up. Now the guy is making awesome movies!

I've included the original version which has English subtitles and a shorter director's cut version that was included with The Criterion Collection's release of Cronos.

You can find a more detailed description of the short film below the videos.

A Mexican widow (Guadalupe del Toro) receives a letter from the high school attended by her son (Fernando Garcia Marin). It informs her that the boy is about to fail his geometry exams for the third time. The woman berates her son, then turns on the television, refusing to speak to him. The boy leaves the room, vowing that he will never fail geometry again.
The boy resorts to using black magic in order to pass the exam. In a dark room, he reads from a tome of sorcery, which states, "As a protection for the invocation of a major demon, place yourself inside a pentagon drawn with your own blood. This pentagon will be your only protection." The boy proceeds to follow these instructions.
While the woman sits in the living room, watching a pastiche of The Exorcist, she hears her son screaming from the next room. When she enters, she finds him standing in the middle of the bloody seal. He shouts a warning, telling her that the pentagon is his only protection. A glowing portal opens in the wall, and a demon (Rodrigo Mora) steps through. The boy asks the demon to grant two wishes. The first is that he will not fail geometry again. The second is the return of his father, Francisco, who died in an accident three months ago. The demon complies with the latter, causing Francisco to materialise immediately. However, he is now a mindless zombie. Francisco kills and eats his wife, while their son looks on in horror, unable to step out of the pentagon for fear of losing its magical protection.
The demon commands the boy to surrender, but he refuses to give in, saying that he cannot be harmed while he stands within the pentagon. The demon reasons that he has already granted one of the boy's two wishes: his family is together again. He also points out that what the boy has drawn is not a pentagon, but a hexagon, which offers no magical protection whatsoever. The demon muses that the boy's other wish has also been granted: he will never fail geometry again. Francisco approaches his son from behind and takes hold of his head, tilting it backwards. The boy laments the unfairness of his situation. The demon agrees, and reaches out a hand to take hold of his throat. The screen fades to black as ripping sounds are heard.

DEXTER Season 8 Promo and Clips - "What's Eating Dexter Morgan?"

We're two episodes into the final season of Showtime's Dexter, and it looks like we're headed toward an awesomely climatic conclusion. The cable network has released a promo for the upcoming episode along with two clips called "Why Didn't You Kill Her" and "DUI."

Each episode is sure to get more and more intense until finally everything just blows up. I'd like to think that Dexter would never kill Deb, but if they really wanted to shock the hell out of their audience that would be an insane way to do it.

Do you think Dexter has it in him to kill Deb? Because it's looking like he's going to be pushed into a corner where he will have to make that decision.

He's smart, he's good looking, and he's got a great sense of humor. He's Dexter Morgan, everyone's favorite serial killer. As a Miami forensics expert, he spends his days solving crimes, and nights committing them. But Dexter lives by a strict code of honor that is both his saving grace and lifelong burden. Torn between his deadly compulsion and his desire for true happiness, Dexter is a man in profound conflict with the world and himself. Golden Globe® winner Michael C. Hall stars in the hit Showtime Original Series.

Hot Toys has revealed another awesome collectible action figure featuring the evil version of Christopher Reeves' Superman. I love how this turned out. Like always, the detail is spectacular! Here are the details that came along with this set of photos.

Originally a brave and kind-hearted hero with a strong sense of justice, morality and righteousness due to the exposure to synthetic kryptonite in Superman III the movie, Superman has descended into darkness and becomes an evil version of Superman. The showdown between him and Clark Kent at the junkyard is a critical part of the film.
Hot Toys is happy to present the 1/6th scale Superman (Evil Version) Collectible Figure from Superman III as one of the 2013 Toy Fairs Exclusive items. This collectible is specially crafted based on the image of Christopher Reeve in the movie, highlighting the detailed head sculpt, movie-accurate costume and specially-designed figure stage.
Paying tribute to Christopher Reeve, we are pleased to support the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation and their mission to advance research into spinal cord injury and improve quality of life for people living with paralysis.

Will you be trying to get your hands on one of these bad boys?

Great Evil Dead-Influenced Horror Short - LAUNDRY NIGHT

$

I've got another great new short film for you to check out. This is a horror short called Laundry Night, and as you'll see it was kind of influenced by director Sam Raimi's Evil Dead. The movie was directed by Peter Bradley of Trilobite Pictures, and I though it was very entertaining.

A routine trip down to the basement, a frightening place we all know well. The all too familiar feeling of being watched, and the things that can happen when we’re alone. These are all elements of our newest short film, Laundry Night. It is a simple story inspired by an Alfred Hitchcock quote: “If it’s a good movie, the sound could go off and the audience would still have a perfectly clear idea of what was going on.” There is a real misconception that making something natural for the screen is easy. It’s not. And in this case, cinematic naturalism is made all the more difficult by the removal of dialogue. In a way though, this challenge is what makes Laundry Night all the more fun and scary. After all, what’s more frightening than the eerily familiar?

For those of you who don't like doing your laundry alone in a creepy basement, this movie isn't going to help the situation. I simply don't like doing my laundry. I hope you like this one!

Guillermo del Toro Wants Benedict Cumberbatch for FRANKENSTEIN

I'm happy to report that Guillermo del Toro still hasn't given up on his Frankenstein film project. He's said several times already that this would be the most personal film he'll ever make.

He revealed in a recent interview with  Daily Telegraph (Via: The Playlist) that he is looking to sign Benedict Cumberbatch to star in the film! The actor was recently cast in Del Toro's upcoming haunted house horror film Crimson Peak.

There's no word on whether Cumberbatch would play the creature or the doctor in Frankenstein, but we do know that Del Toro wanted Doug Jones take on the role of the creature and has already done test shoots with the director. Cumberbatch could do either role as he's already played both of them in in the Danny Boyle stage play opposite Jonny Lee Miller. If both actors end up in the film that would be amazing.

I really want to see this movie happen, but who knows what Universal will do, especially since Fox is already making a Frankenstein film with Daniel Radcliffe as Igor, which is set to to be released in the fall of 2014. I'm sure it will happen one day, but the sooner the better.

Del Toro also gave an update on his big screen adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five saying,

"Charlie Kaufman and I talked for about an hour-and-a-half and came up with a perfect way of doing the book. I love the idea of the Trafalmadorians [the aliens of 'Slaughterhouse-Five'] -- to be 'unstuck in time,' where everything is happening at the same time. And that's what I want to do. It's just a catch-22. The studio will make it when it''s my next movie, but how can I commit to it being my next movie until there's a screenplay? Charlie Kaufman is a very expensive writer! I'll work it out."

There are so many projects that Del Toro has been working on over the years that we would love to see made. It would be great to see some of these long gestated projects actually move into development at some point.

What do you think about Cumberbatch starring in Frankenstein? Which role you like to see him play?

Warner Bros. continues the marketing blitz for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim as they've released a new full trailer called "Resistance," and two new TV spots that claim the movie is "Star Wars for a new generation."  As you might expect, the trailers are loaded with epic new footage from the film to help get you even more pumped up to see it.

Damn... this movie looks badass. It comes out on July 12th, so prepare yourselves for awesomeness!

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Is Marvel Developing a GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Animated Series?

$

It sounds like Marvel could be developing an animated series based on Guardians of the Galaxy. The possibility was hinted at by Marvel comics editor Steve Wacker. Apparently, it was discussed at a "writing summit" for Disney XD's Ultimate Spider-Man. Here's what he said,

"Now, look, I can't officially confirm that we spent a LOT of time talking about the Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon but wouldn't that HYPOTHETICALLY… be amazing?"

If Marvel does end up doing a Guardians of the Galaxy animated series, hopefully they do a better job with it than what they are currently doing with their other animated series such as Ultimate Spider-Man, Marvel's Avengers Assemble, and Hulk: Agents of S.M.A.S.H.

Director James Gunn is currently developing the live-action version of the comic, and it stars Chris Pratt, Benicio del Toro, John C Reilly, Glenn Close and my Doctor Who crush Karen Gillan.

The movie is set to be released on August 1st, 2014. Earlier today we learned who the villains in the movie will be. In case you missed it, click here.

The CURSE OF CHUCKY Trailer has Arrived!

Curse of Chucky may be going straight to DVD and Blu-ray, but it still looks like it will be a fun sequel for the killer doll with a soul of evil. The trailer shows the doll running around and terrifying people, and I've gotta say, it looks just as entertaining as it was the first time I saw the original film.

The movie stars Fiona Dourif, A Martinez, Danielle Bisutti, Brennan Elliott, and Brad Dourif, who returns to provide the voice of Chucky. The story centers on a toddler sized doll possessed by the spirit of notorious serial killer Charles Lee Ray, who returns to settle some unfinished business. The film was directed by Don Mancini, who is the Child's Play franchise creator that has written or co-written each of the previous movies and was also the director of Seed of Chucky. This is the sixth installment of the franchise, and here's the synopsis:

In Curse of Chucky, Nica (Fiona Dourif) is grieving over the gruesome suicide of her mother when her domineering older sister Barb (Danielle Bisutti) arrives with her young family in tow to help settle their mother’s affairs. As the sisters butt heads over Nica’s plans for the future, Barb’s young daughter comforts herself with a grinning, red-haired talking doll named Chucky (Brad Dourif) that recently arrived mysteriously in the mail. But as a string of brutal murders begins to terrorize the household, Nica suspects the doll may hold the key to the bloodshed. What she doesn’t know is that Chucky has a personal score to settle. He’s determined to finish a job he started more than 20 years earlier, and this time he’s going to see it through to the bloody and shocking end.

The movie is coming to Blu-ray and DVD this fall.

First Look at Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson in OUT OF THE FURNACE

USA Today

These photos give us our first look at Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson in the upcoming thriller Out of the Furnace. This will be Bale's first film since The Dark Knight Rises.

The story follows Russell (Bale) and his younger brother Rodney (Casey Affleck) who live in the economically-depressed Rust Belt, "and have always dreamed of escaping and finding better lives. But when a cruel twist of fate lands Russell in prison, his brother is lured into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast - a mistake that will almost cost him everything. Once released, Russell must choose between his own freedom, or risk it all to seek justice for his brother."

The movie was directed by Scott Cooper, and also stars Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe, Sam Shepard, and Zoe Saldana. Here's what the director had to say in a statement,

"You often find superheroic people wearing capes and costumes in film today. But working-class Americans are the real heroes. This is the story of this man who works in a blast furnace, but with themes of justice, retribution and courage."

Bale went on to talk about his character and working on a steel furnace,

"Russell is not of that personality, nor does he wish to be. But he finds himself having to confront these people in order to do the right thing. He's only got his own fortitude and will power, nothing else.
It's long hours, unhealthy conditions and intense heat. It's dangerous work. The guys had recently lost a friend who had died on the job. But there's a great bond. And they have a love for it, despite the hardships."

This sounds like it will be a great movie.

Trailer for Kristen Bell's THE LIFEGUARD

The first trailer for Kristen Bell's coming-of-age indie drama The Lifeguard has been released, and it looks like an ok film. It's not something I'm going to rush out to theaters to see. The movie premiered at Sundance earlier this year and was met with some mixed reviews, most of which weren't good. Ben and Elijah watched the film while they were there, and you can watch their video review, in which they point out how mediocre the movie was, here.

Leigh (Kristen Bell) is almost 30, and living a seemingly perfect life in New York. But when her career and love life both come crashing down, she flees to her suburban hometown and regresses right back into teenage life and behavior. She moves into her old room with her parents, hangs around with friends who never left town, and reclaims her high school job as a condo-complex lifeguard. But as Leigh enjoys shirking adult life and responsibilities and enters into an illicit affair, she begins a chain reaction that affects those closest to her. With an all-star cast that also includes Martin Starr (“Party Down,” “Knocked Up”), Mamie Gummer (“Side Effects”) and Oscar nominee Amy Madigan, it’s a journey that’s both hilarious and heartfelt. Presented by Screen Media Films & Focus World, the alternative distribution of Focus Features.

The movie comes out on August 30th.

THE SWORD Graphic Novel To Be Adapted by David Hayter

David Hayter, the screenwriter of films such as X-Men, X2, and Watchmen, has been hired by Lakeshore Entertainment to write the script for the big screen adaptation of the graphic novel The Sword.

The comic was created by Jonathan and Joshua Luna, and it's a stylistic, action-packed tale of vengeance. It tells the story of a young paraplegic, Dara Brighton, "who leads an ordinary existence until her family is brutally murdered by a mysterious trio, possessed of god-like, supernatural abilities. Left for dead, Dara discovers an ancient sword belonging to her father, indicating that his past may have been much longer, and stranger, than she could have ever suspected. The sword not only restores her ability to walk, but it grants her a constantly evolving array of spectacular physical powers. With her new weapon in hand, and two faithful friends at her side, Dara Brighton embarks on a journey to hunt down and destroy her family’s assassins."

The graphic novel is divided into four different volumes, so the studio is hoping that this will be a big successful franchise. Production on the first installment of The Sword is scheduled to start in early 2014. Lakeshore Entertainment Chairman and CEO Tom Rosenberg had this to say in a statement,

"David has a proven track record of bringing the multifaceted, beloved characters of graphic novels to mainstream audiences and we’re excited that he’ll be joining us for 'The Sword,' Lakeshore has a history of delivering large-scale genre films at a budget that enables our international independent distributors to participate, and 'The Sword' will provide that opportunity.”

Hopefully this turns out to be an awesome big franchise for them. I've never read the graphic novel, but it sounds like it has the potential to be a great movie.

Director John Woo has started production on his next film project, The Crossing, which will be his first film in over four years. The last movie he directed was Red Cliff 2. Woo has made a lot of fun action films in his career, and this new one sounds like it could be good.

According to Variety, The Crossing is a two-part film that's set against the upheavals of revolutionary China in 1949, "the film is the story of three couples from different backgrounds who make a fateful voyage on a ship fleeing China to Taiwan."

The screenplay for the film was written by Wang Huiling, who previously co-wrote Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. This film production news was surprising. Prior to this I hadn't seen that Woo was attached to it.

Dev Patel in Talks to Join Neill Blomkamp's CHAPPIE

Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel might have finally landed another great film project. The actor really hasn't done any movie worth watching since Slumdog. According to THR, he's now in talks to join  Neill Blomkamp's sci-fi comedy Chappie, which is based on his short film "Tetra Vaal." All we know about the film's story is that it will center on a "ridiculous robot character."

The movie also stars Sharlto Copley, and according to the report, he is playing a police robot working the shanty towns.  If Patel ends up being cast in the film he will play the film’s human lead, "a young man in the impoverished town."

I'm excited to see what exactly Blomkamp has planned for this next movie. All I know is that he's proved himself to be a great filmmaker, and his short film, "Tetra Vaal," is fantastic. It's great that he'll be expending the world he created.

Behind The Kickstart: SATELLITE REIGN with Brent Waller

$

0

Thank you for taking the time to speak to me about Satellite Reign Brent, and like many I'm excited to see more from the title. That said, I do have something to confess. I am actually one of the 5 people from my age group that doesn't have any hands on experience with the original Syndicate or Syndicate Wars. Always heard about it, and have seen both games in action extensively, but have never actually played them.

While my head hangs in gaming shame, I imagine there are others like me who might stay a bit silent when others share their Syndicate gaming nostalgia, in hopes we won't be found out. For those of us who missed the train what would you say is the key thing that Syndicate (and now Satellite Reign) does that no other game does?

Apart from being a cyberpunk action/strategy game which few games can claim to be, the Syndicate games were a top-down isometric RTS that wasn’t really an RTS as we know it traditionally. There’s no base building, and apart from the taxes you generate from dominating districts, there is no resource management as such. It’s all about managing your squad of 4 agents, upgrading them with augmentations and equipment so they can go face-to-face against another corporation in all-out warfare on the streets.

Spiritual Successor is a term I've heard used quite a bit the last year or two. It would seem to be a minefield of legality depending on who owns the rights. Is there a lot of development time going towards making sure that a line doesn't get crossed? What kind of precautions do you have to take?

You should totally use the Ludacris Gun by the way.

While we are obviously inspired by the Syndicate games, we’re creating a story and universe that stands completely on its own.

The team are all diehard fans of the both the genre and cyberpunk setting captured by games such as Syndicate, but our goal is to create something of our own. Satellite Reign is going to build off the themes and mechanics everyone loved in the Syndicate games, but having an entirely new world of our own gives us the freedom to try new things without being tied down by an established canon.

Speaking of Satellite Reign, The hacker seems like it would be a really fun class to use, and the thinking behind him is right in line with what I noticed in watching gameplay of the previous titles, as it was common to just use all 4 agents together as one big unstoppable mob. Having classes helps stop that from being such an issue, but what about the hacker specifically excites you the most?

For myself, I’m excited about using the hacker to manipulate the simulated city. For example, one of your informants might come across some information about a new prototype weapon being developed at a competing corporation that you want to get your hands on.

You’ve found out some information about a scientist who works on the project, he’ll have a key or passcode to access the facility where the weapon is being held. But all you have is his name and face, you don’t know where he is at any given time. So you break into the city’s CCTV system (either via force or stealth) and hack into their systems to use their cameras to find him using facial recognition built into the cameras. The cameras pick him up getting into his car on his way to work.

So naturally you might decide the best course of action is to set up an ambush. You position your agents along a road you’ll know he’s coming down and wait. As he approaches you get your soldier to open fire on the car, the scientists accelerates and at that moment you instruct your hacker to override the traffic diversion system which forces a set of bollards to pop up out of the road in front of the car, causing it to crash.

Now it’s just a matter of wandering over, killing the scientist or persuading him to join your side at which point you’ll have access to the facility where the prototype weapon is being held. That’s just one way you could approach that mission. You could just decide to just take the brute force approach and attack the facility where the weapon is being held, but having the option for a more covert approach is what excites me the most about the hacker.

Augmentation is a big part of developing your team and enhancing their skills, so could you go into a bit more detail on how the system works?

Our augmentation system is very similar to the Syndicate, Deus Ex series of games, with options for upgrading  brain, eyes, legs, arms, lungs etc. Each augmentation will allow you to do things better or faster than you could before. Eyes might give your agents a longer line of sight, legs allow you to move faster, arms allow you to carry larger weapons, lungs allow you to sprint further and breathe in toxic environments etc. There’s a lot of options in the way you can upgrade your agent, but you’ll have to choose carefully to tailor your agents to your place style, and some augmentations will be more offensive while some are more defensive.

One of the features being spotlighted in the Kickstarter campaign is having a living, breathing city. Is it just about immersion in the game world that excites you about it most, or is it the gameplay possibilities?

I think the gameplay possibilities actually build the immersion. If the player performs a certain action in the world, you want, and would expect, to get a realistic response from the simulation of the population. Whether the player views these reactions as positive or negative will really depend on your play-style, but we’re careful not to force any morality into the impacts of your actions. We feel a realistic reaction to your actions will help build the immersion more than forcing certain play-styles down the players’ throats.

I love that, as playing in a world of grey can be a lot of fun. Speaking of your living world, the way missions are delivered to your character promotes interacting with the npc's and your environment to a great degree. I love the idea of discovering people and missions as opposed to being delivered them, as it gives you a credible reward for exploring your surroundings. Can you go into a bit more detail as to how that will work?

A little bit like an RPG but without the time consuming workload of rigid scripting. We want the players to discover the missions and objectives in the world. You can physically make the hacker break into a competing corporations office and uncover some tidbits of information that reveals a new objective or goal in the world, or bribe an informant or guard for information.

You’ll also have the option of paying for information on the black market; there’ll be places in the world where you can go and just pay someone to find the information for you. The other option is to pump some of your money and income into data mining which over time will hack into any systems in the city and give you drops of information as it finds it. All of this information will be presented to you in communication between people, emails, memos, etc.

It really seems like there are a ton of ways to interact with the world you've built, and while we're talking about the surroundings, it should be mentioned I absolutely love the art style you've gone with. Also, your soldier designs are pretty damn cool. It's gotta be hard creating a soldier or guard that doesn't look like every other soldier or guard. Any behind the scenes details on how that style was created? I'm a sucker for that kind of thing.

We have an amazing group of concept artists we contract for that. We gave one particular artist a fairly loose direction for a faceless corporate soldier that is somewhat reminiscent of Stormtrooper and his initial “rough” sketch completely nailed it first go.

You've recently added the digital novella written by Russell Zimmerman to your rewards list, who has plenty of experience with cyberpunk worlds. Is that a prequel to the story of the game, or something that takes place during?

We’ve only just brought him on board so our plans haven’t been nailed down as of yet. The universe we’re building has existed for over a century under the control of the current corporate power, so there’s going to be lots of room for Russell to stretch his legs. Whether or not his novella will directly set up the events of the game or stand on its own is still yet to be decided.

A novel gives you an ample amount of room to flesh out the world, so is there one particular part of the fiction that you wanted more room to develop?

We’re careful not to box ourselves into story elements that will dictate things for the long term. If we’re successful with this first game, we want to leave ourselves some room to explore the world beyond the one city Satellite Reign will be taking place in. Are there other cities out there? Other corporations? We want some freedom to explore in the future.

Well it's safe to say I'm convinced, and thank you for taking the time to speak with me Brent. Congrats on being over halfway funded with 20 days still to go! I sincerely hope I get the chance to play Satellite Reign, and look forward to seeing more of it.

Thanks for talking to us!
