RESIDENT EVIL 6: Play Arts Takes Charge with New Leon and Helena Kai Figure

Some people ring in Thanksgiving with turkey and dressing. In my case it's normally enchiladas and tamales, but if neither of those float your boat, you could celebrate with two new Resident Evil 6 figures that SquareEnix and Play Arts are releasing in November. Featuring two of the main protagonists from RE:6, Leon and Helena, these figures are loaded with articulation and come with a number of weapons and even replaceable hands to switch out to your heart's content. Granted, they come out in Japan in September, which throws my whole Thanksgiving vibe off, but either way, they will cost you around $80. Be sure to make some room on your shelf if you plan on getting the set though, as I imagine Chris, Pierce, Jake, and Sherry can't be far behind. Here's hoping SquareEnix will follow suit with a Resident Evil: Revelations set soon, as I really enjoyed my time with that game, and was a nice return to proper survival horror as opposed to the more action oriented RE:6. You can catch a closer look at the figures below, and can head here to pre-order if you are so inclined.

RED DEAD REDEMPTION Fan Film - The Hanging of Bonnie MacFarlane

Here's a fun Grindhouse style Red Dead Redemption fan film called The Hanging of Bonnie MacFarlane. It was created by Silk Dog Films, and if you're a fan of the video game, then I think you'll enjoy this. I thought it was a decently made short that was pretty entertaining. I especially liked the way it ended. I won't ruin it for you, but it's exactly what I wanted to see happen! Enjoy the show!

JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE FLASHPOINT PARADOX - First Clip and Images

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released the first film clip from their upcoming animated DC comics film, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox. They've also released a few new images from the story. The story is based on Geoff Johns' graphic novel Flashpoint, and the story centers on the Flash, who wakes up devoid of his super powers. The clip features Batman and Cyborg looking to recruit some backup to take down Aquaman and Wonder Woman in order to prevent the deaths of millions of people. This looks like it could be a decent adaptation.

When time travel allows a past wrong to be righted for Flash and his family, the event’s temporal ripples prove disastrous, creating a fractured, alternate reality where the Justice League never formed, and even Superman is nowhere to be found. Amidst a new world being ravaged by a fierce war between Wonder Woman’s Amazons and Aquaman’s Atlanteans, Flash must team with a grittier, more violent Batman and government agent Cyborg to restore the continuity of Flash’s original timeline.

The animated movie stars Justin Chambers as Barry Allen, Kevin McKidd as Thomas Wayne/Batman, Kevin Conroy as Batman, Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern, Ron Perlman as Slade and Deathstroke, Michael B Jordan as Cyborg, and C. Thomas Howell as Reverse Flash. It will be released on July 30th, and it's set to premiere at Comic-Con in a couple of weeks.

Ryan Reynolds Says DEADPOOL Is the Worst Relationship He's Ever Had

$

At this point who knows if Fox is actually going to put Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool movie into production? Now would be the perfect time. The fans want it, and the demand for superhero movies is high. The movie has been in and out of development for years. Most recently Tim Miller was attached to direct it from a script by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. That script is a hard 'R' movie, which is why we might not ever see it happen.

While making the press rounds for R.I.P.D. he was asked again about the project by Total Film, and this is what he had to say...

"That movie is alive and kicking, and then it's dead as a doornail. Then it's alive and kicking and then it's dead… it's like the worst relationship I've ever had! The character knows he's a comic-book character, he knows he's in a film, he knows who the executives are at the studio making the movie. In the current iteration of the script, Deadpool is aware of the Wolverine movie. He doesn't say anything disparaging about it but he does at one point play with the Deadpool action figure with some curiosity."

Like all of you, I'd love for this project to happen, but let's face it, if it does happen it won't be the 'R' rated version we all want to see. The studio makes these movies 10% for the fans and 90% for the general audience, because the general PG-13 audience is where they make all of their money. If they ever do make an 'R' rated Deadpool film, then hell has frozen over and pigs can fly.

For those of you who want a little comparison, Dredd was a hard 'R' film that was made 100% for the fans of the comic book. The movie was a great adaptation. I loved it, and the fans loved it. But guess what, the general audience didn't and it bombed at the box office. That's one of many reasons why Fox is scared to go for the 'R' rated film.

Do you think the movie will eventually be made? If is does, what rating do you think they will slap on it?

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Preview Their Upcoming Lineups

Legendary Pictures: Godzilla -- An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence. Gareth Edwards directs Godzilla, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, and Juliette Binoche, with David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. The screenplay is by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham. Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Mary Parent and Brian Rogers. Alex Garcia and Patricia Whitcher are the executive producers, alongside Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira. The film is from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures.

Legendary Pictures: Seventh Son -- The fantasy action adventure Seventh Son takes audiences to a time long past, where evil is about to be unleashed. Jeff Bridges stars as Master Gregory, a Falcon Knight who imprisoned the malevolently powerful witch Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore) years ago. Now escaped, she seeks vengeance, and Gregory has only until the next blood moon to train a new apprentice (Ben Barnes), the seventh son of a seventh son, to fight a dark magic unlike any other. Oscar nominee Sergei Bodrov directs an international cast that includes Alicia Vikander, Kit Harington, Olivia Williams, Antje Traue, and Djimon Hounsou. The film is from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures.

Warner Bros. Pictures: 300: Rise of an Empire -- From producer Zack Snyder, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures present a new chapter in this epic saga, based on Frank Miller's graphic novel Xerxes and told in the same breathtaking visual style as the blockbuster 300. Directed by Noam Murro, 300: Rise of an Empire takes the action to a fresh battlefield-on the sea-with a cast of both new and returning stars, led by Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Lena Headey, Hans Matheson, David Wenham, and Rodrigo Santoro. Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, and Bernie Goldmann produce, with Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad again collaborating on the screenplay.

Warner Bros. Pictures: Gravity -- From director Alfonso Cuarón comes the sci-fi Thriller Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Dr. Ryan Stone (Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, alongside veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney). On a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes, leaving them completely alone-tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further into the terrifying expanse of space.

Warner Bros. Pictures: The LEGO Movie -- From directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller of 21 Jump Street comes the first ever full-length theatrical LEGO adventure, The LEGO Movie, about a perfectly average LEGO minifigure named Emmet who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which he is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared. The original 3D computer animated story stars Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, and Alison Brie, with Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman.

Director Neil Marshall has been hired to come back to direct the final installment of the fourth season of Game of Thrones! Marshall is the talented director who's brought us films such as The Descent, Centurion, Doomsday, and the insanely awesome Game of Thrones episode "Blackwater."

I couldn't be more excited that Marshall is coming back for the season 4 finale. He's confirmed with Empire that the final episode of the season will be the battle between the Night's Watch and Mance Rayder's Wildling army at Castle Black.

I already can't wait to see how this episode turns out! Marshall is the perfect choice to bring this part of the story to life. Apparently, Marshall came on to direct "Blackwater" at the last minute and didn't have much prep time, and look how amazing that turned out! With this one he has months to prepare, so it's sure to be even better.

The fourth season will premiere on HBO in the first half of 2014. Are you excited to hear that Marshall will be coming back for more Game of Thrones?

Marvel's The Avengers team up with Disney's Phineas and Ferb in an upcoming episode called Phineas & Ferb: Mission Marvel. The first clip for the episode has been released featuring Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, and Spider-Man as they try to adapt to having switched powers with each other.

This episode should prove to be very entertaining for any Marvel fan. It premieres on August 16th (8 p.m. ET/PT) on Disney Channel. I have a feeling this is going to be a very successful episode, and I imagine it's not going to be the last time we see Marvel characters team up with Disney. Enjoy the clip!

The story follows Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor, and the Hulk "as they enter the fictional town of Danville after Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s latest “inator” scheme accidentally removes their powers and immobilizes them. In order to defeat Marvel’s super villains Red Skull, Whiplash, Venom and M.O.D.O.K., the Marvel heroes team up with Phineas and Ferb."

Here's a great piece of Batman fan art called "Revenge Poison Ivy" that features the classic villainess sitting on a giant plant that has eaten Batman.  It has a fun, cartoony pin-up style to it. It was created by CGHUB artist papaninja. I'd like to see this artist take on Harley Quinn next.

Universal Pictures has released a new featurette for the exciting looking supernatural action thriller R.I.P.D. It includes new footage from the film and interviews with the cast and crew talking about the film and their characters. The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon, and Mary-Louise Parker.

In the film based on the Dark Horse comic, veteran sheriff Roy Pulsifer (Jeff Bridges) has spent his career with the legendary police force known as R.I.P.D. tracking monstrous spirits who are cleverly disguised as ordinary people. His mission? To arrest and bring to justice a special brand of criminals trying to escape final judgment by hiding among the unsuspecting on Earth.
Once the wise-cracking Roy is assigned former rising-star detective Nick Walker (Ryan Reynolds) as his junior officer, the new partners have to turn grudging respect into top-notch teamwork. When they uncover a plot that could end life as we know it, two of R.I.P.D.'s finest must miraculously restore the cosmic balance...or watch the tunnel to the afterlife begin sending angry souls the very wrong way.

The movie comes out on July 19th!

James Cameron Still Plans to Make BATTLE ANGEL!

So, our favorite multi-Gazillionaire movie maker, James Cameron, has been rather quiet lately. Recently he decided to pop up in Mexico City to speak about what he is working on now, how he feels about 3D conversion, and his plans to make Battle Angel.

Here are some tidbits that were found over on TheFlimStage.com:

Speaking at Mexico City’s technology forum TagDF on Wednesday, the filmmaker said that, to one-up Avatar, he will be shifting his focus from creating new technologies to expanding story and characters. This trans-human exploration (themes that have “haunted” him for years) will also extend to his long-rumored Battle Angel, which the filmmaker said he will begin to develop in 2017, presumably around the time he’s in post-production on Avatar 3.

For those of you who don’t know, it has been rumored for a while that the Avatar sequels would be Cameron’s last films. However, it looks like he will be working on Battle Angel once he is through with the Navi’.  Here is an unofficial synopsis of the film from IMDB:

Alita is a creation from an age of despair. Found by the mysterious Dr. Ido while trolling for cyborg parts, Alita becomes a lethal, dangerous being. She cannot remember who she is, or where she came from. But to Dr. Ido, the truth is all too clear. She is the one being who can break the cycle of death and destruction left behind from Tiphares. But to accomplish her true purpose, she must fight and kill. And that is where Alita's true significance comes to bear. She is an angel from heaven. She is an angel of death.

Remember that is an unofficial synopsis and things are subject to change.

He continues on, talking about helping director Alfonso Cuaron with his upcoming film, Gravity. He also goes on to talk about his effect on 3D filmmaking. This is what he had to say about that:

Cameron says, “One thing is shooting in 3D and another is to convert to 3D.” He adds that his film “changed everything” and, now, with the increased use in all types of films, the control of 3D is getting away from the directors and being put into the money-hungry studios. Unlike films shot in 3D, he says that conversions do not convey the same visual depth, with the technology being pushed on directors “who are not comfortable or do not like 3D.”
Wrapping up, he says that films like Man of Steel and Iron Man 3 “should not necessarily be in 3D. If you spend $150 million on visual effects, the film is already going to [look] spectacular [and] perfect.” We’d like to think most audiences would agree with these statements.

I am always interested to see what JC is up to, and I can’t wait for what he has in store for us next. Are you a James Cameron fan or are you done with him? Let us know.

Until next time…

Russell Crowe Open to a MAN OF STEEL Prequel

A lot of fans enjoyed Russell Crowe's portrayal of Jor-El in Man of Steel, and he was getting a lot of questions on Twitter asking him if he'd consider reprising his role in a prequel to the film. Here's his response,

"A lot of you are asking about a KRYPTON prequel, if that's something you feel strongly about let @Legendary pictures know your thoughts."

He was then asked about it again and replied with the following,

"Just getting sick of reading the same question mate, however, if it came up, i'd give the tights another go."

I think a prequel set on Krypton could be really cool--I'd watch that movie! I don't think Warner Bros. would ever do it, as they are trying to figure out how to get there other DC comic book properties off the ground. Regardless, is a Man of Steel prequel with Crowe something you'd like to see happen?

As Expected, THE LONE RANGER Bombs at the Box Office

$

Disney's The Lone Ranger has bombed at the box office, and according to studio insiders it could lose up $150 million. I saw this coming from a mile away, and I'm shocked that Disney never saw it happening. I guess they bet on Johnny Depp pulling in the Pirates of the Caribbean crowd. The only problem is, this movie is not Pirates of the Caribbean, and it didn't work.  It's a western, and westerns aren't blockbuster hits these days. I hoped I would be wrong about the movie bombing, but I wasn't.

I was actually looking forward to the movie, but everything about it ended up being mediocre. It had some fun moments, but for the most part I thought the movie was a mess. I'm a fan of westerns, and unfortunately this ended up being a disappointing film.

The movie was directed by Gore Verbinski, and it was based on the 1930s radio show and 1950s television series. It's not like there was already a built in audience for the movie. The Lone Ranger doesn't really have a big following anymore. Over the last five days it made $48.9 million domestically. To put things in perspective, the studio spent $250 million making the movie and another $175 million on worldwide marketing.

THR says, "Given its poor opening and stiff July competition, box office experts now calculate that Lone Ranger will reach only $125 million domestically, if that. Overseas, it may earn $150 million for a worldwide total of $275 million. In 2011, Disney was forced to take a $200 million write-down when the ill-fated John Carter -- costing more than $250 million to produce -- topped out at $282 million worldwide." Disney executive vp worldwide distribution, Dave Hollis had this to say in a statement,

"It's very disappointing. Everything was perfect on paper, so today was incredibly frustrating."

What I want to know is: who was doing their paperwork?! That person should be fired. They could have just asked me, and I could have told them it was doomed from the beginning. I was talking about it over a year ago, saying, "This will be the most expensive western film ever made. Cowboys & Aliens only had a budget of about $160, and that had a ton of special effects and sci-fi elements, and it bombed at the box office. I have a feeling The Lone Ranger is going to bomb as well."

No Western film ever would need a budget of $250 million. Another version of this movie could have been made for less than $100 million, and it could have ended up being a better film. Look at the Coen Brothers' True Grit! They made that one for only $38 million, and guess what? It was a better film that pulled in over $251 million worldwide, which, by the way is one of the most profitable western films ever made. There was a right way and a wrong way to make The Lone Ranger, and Disney obviously did it the wrong way.

Even though this movie isn't going to do as well as Disney hoped, the studio will be fine. They've had strong box office returns for Iron Man 3 and Monsters University. They also have Thor: The Dark World coming out later on this year.

Did you see The Lone Ranger over the weekend? If so, what did you think of it? Did you expect the movie to fail?

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Villains Revealed!

$

One of the things Marvel has managed to keep secret for awhile was who the villains were going to be in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. The villain characters are being played by Benicio del Toro, Lee Pace, and Karen Gillan. There's been a lot of speculation on who they might be playing, but Den of Geek has confirmed with a "solid source" which characters they are taking on. If you don't want to know, then don't read past this point. I'm going to get right into it.

Here you go... as rumored Benicio del Toro is playing The Collector, Lee Pace is going to be playing Ronan The Accuser, and the beautiful Karen Gillan is taking on the role of Nebula in the film. Here's a little information provided on each character.

The Collector is one of the oldest characters in Marvel's universe, given that he dates back billions of years, protecting the universe in the way he sees fit. He can see, to an extent, the future, and it was he that foresaw Thanos, whose role in the Marvel cinematic universe has already been introduced, and is expected to be heavily expanded.

Ronan The Accuser, meanwhile, first popped up in Fantastic Four comics, and he's a member of the Kree, an alien race. He's got a fair number of superhuman powers, and while originally a villain, he has shown a more heroic side, too.

Nebula, meanwhile, is a villain and space pirate, who claimed to be the granddaughter of Thanos.

Of course none of this is 100% confirmed yet, but it makes sense to me that these actors would be taking on these roles in the film.

The movie also stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, John C. Reilly, and Glenn Close. The movie will be released on August 1st, 2014.

Dwayne Johnson Teases HERCULES Set Photo

Dwayne Johnson has tweeted a new photo from the set of his Hercules movie, which is being directed by Brett Ratner. The movie is based on the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars, and the film is a revisionist take on the classic myth set in a grounded world where the supernatural does not exist.

Ratner is a terrible filmmaker, so the fact that he's directing this movie makes me not want to see it. Here's a note that came along with the photo:

"Our 'Hercules' set created by award winning designer Jean-Vincent Puzos w/ great detail, I sit in awe."

Here's the description of the comic:

Fourteen-hundred years ago, a tormented soul walked the Earth that was neither man nor god. Hercules, powerful son of the god king Zeus, received nothing but suffering his entire life. After twelve arduous labors and the loss of his family, this dark, world-weary soul turned his back on the gods, finding his only solace in bloody battle. Over the years he warmed to the company of six similar souls, their only bond being their love of fighting and the presence of death. These men and woman never question where, why, or whom they go to fight; only how much they will be paid. Knowing this, the King of Thrace has hired these mercenaries to train his men to become the greatest army of all time. Hercules begins to question King Cotys' motives when he takes his army out to battle and sees them practice on innocent men, women, and children of their neighbors. Deep in his soul something stirs, but is it enough to stop a mad king and his army of the damned from marching across Greece - or even Olympus itself?!

The movie comes out on July 25th, 2014. Do you think this will be any good?

San Diego Comic-Con is a little over a week away, but that didn't stop Godzilla from stomping through and leaving its mark. Legendary Pictures has "taken over" a warehouse near the convention center, and it features the Legendary logo and giant claw marks slashed into the side. Here are a couple of photos that have popped up on Twitter. It will be cool to see what they have in store for us on the inside of the warehouse. I guess we'll find out soon!

I can't wait to get to San Diego! Legendary will be holding a panel for this film at the event, and they are going to show off some of the first footage from the film to those in attendance!

The Gareth Edwards-directed film opens May 16th, 2014 and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, Bryan Cranston, and Sally Hawkins
