Dwayne Johnson Shows off His HERCULES Helmet

0
0

Dwayne Johnson is following Vin Diesel's lead and going crazy with the social media, using it to share photos from the set of his latest movie, Hercules. This latest photo features the Helmet that he will be wearing in the film when in battle.

The Brett Ratner directed film also stars Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan, John Hurt, Rebecca Ferguson, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Aksel Hennie, Reece Ritchie, and Tobias Santelmann.

The movie is based on the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars, and the movie is described as a "revisionist take on the classic myth set in a grounded world where the supernatural does not exist." I might actually be excited for this movie if Ratner weren't directing; I just don't like his stuff.

Here's a synopsis for the film:

Everyone knows the legend of Hercules and his twelve labors. Our story begins after the labors, and after the legend… Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules' help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail... he must again become the hero he once was... he must embrace his own myth... he must be Hercules.

The movie is set to be released on July 25th, 2014

Trailer for Keri Russell's Comedy AUSTENLAND

Here's the first trailer for Keri Russell's new comedy, Austenland. The movie is based on Shannon Hale's novel, and was adapted for the screen by Jerusha Hess, the wife of Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre director Jared Hess. The movie premiered at Sundance earlier this year, and here's what Eli had to say about it in his review:

"Austenland is a cute comedy with an interesting premise. Mixing role playing actors and real lovelorn women can, as the movie states, 'become a complicated thing,' but it keeps your interest and keeps you laughing - even though the predictable twists don't always keep you guessing."

So it might be something worth eventually checking out. Here's the synopsis:

Jane’s life-size paper doll of Mr. Darcy and her “I Love Darcy” tote may be tattered, but even in her thirties, she hasn’t grown out of her obsession with all things Jane Austen. Careworn by love, she saves enough to fulfill her dream of stepping into Austen’s world and heads to Austenland for an “immersive” vacation to eschew all things modern. And it couldn’t be more perfect. There’s an imposing manor with verdant grounds for afternoon promenades, rosy-faced servants, trusty steeds for hunting expeditions, gilded drawing rooms for evenings spent in polite conversation, and, yes, gallant young suitors. Unfortunately, due to limited funds, she’s relegated to lesser quarters and drearier costumes than fellow bachelorette guests, but her cares melt away as she catches the eye of a young footman, and she’s swept into a romantic adventure she could never have imagined.

The movie opens on August 16th.

IMAX is my preferred movie going experience, and they've announced that Neill Blomkamp's amazing looking sci-fi action film Elysium will be released in IMAX theaters. It will be digitally remastered for optimal IMAX awesomeness and is set to hit IMAX theaters worldwide on August 9th! I've also included some cool concept art from the film as well, thanks to moviefone.

Here's some more information from the press release:

“Neill Blomkamp is the kind of innovative, creative storyteller that moviegoers seek out, and we are thrilled to bring this highly anticipated film to IMAX audiences worldwide,” said Greg Foster, CEO of IMAX Entertainment and Senior Executive Vice President IMAX Corp.
“'Elysium' is one of the most highly anticipated films of the summer, so we’re pleased that audiences will have the chance to see Neill Blomkamp’s vision for the future in IMAX’s immersive format,” said Rory Bruer, president, Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures.

The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

Here's the synopsis of the film, and if you want to watch the latest trailer, click here. Will you be seeing the movie in IMAX?

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet’s crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium – but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens’ luxurious lifestyle. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

Ivy by Crystalcosfx  Photo by: Aileen Luib

Ivy is one of the deadliest characters in the Soul Calibur series, and she happens to be one of my favorites. While the character model in Soul Calibur V was way over the top, the look is still cool, and CrystalCosFx, otherwise known as Crystal Graziano, has done a wonderful job of recreating it. The newest photos were taken by Aileen Luib, and you can catch more shots of the costume in the gallery below. If so inclined, you can even give her a like on her facebook page. Really impressive work, and can't wait to see more.

Sneak Peek and Poster for Starz Series THE WHITE QUEEN

0
0

Starz has released an official sneak peek video featurette and poster for their upcoming new historical series The White Queen, which is set to premiere on August 10th at 8pm ET/PT. The show looks like it could be a pretty fantastic series. It's nice seeing a series like this getting decent production value.

Here's a detailed description of the series:

The White Queen is a riveting portrayal of one of the most dramatic and turbulent times in English history. A story of love and lust, seduction and deception, betrayal and murder, it is uniquely told through the perspective of three different, yet equally relentless women - Elizabeth Woodville, Margaret Beaufort and Anne Neville. In their quest for power, they will scheme, manipulate and seduce their way onto the English throne.
The year is 1464, before the Tudor dynasty ruled the country, and war has been ravaging throughout England over who is the rightful King. It is a bitter dispute between two sides of the same family, The House of York and The House of Lancaster.
The House of York’s young and handsome Edward IV is crowned King of England with the help of the master manipulator, Lord Warwick “The Kingmaker.” But when Edward falls in love with a beautiful Lancastrian commoner, Elizabeth Woodville, Warwick’s plan to control the throne comes crashing down.
A violent, high-stakes struggle ensues between Elizabeth, her most fierce adversary, Lancastrian Margaret Beaufort, and Anne Neville, the pawn in her father’s power game - each woman vying for the crown.

I'll be looking forward to watching this one.

First Official Look at Electro in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have our first official look at Jamie Foxx as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and I like what I see. As you can see he faces off with Spider-Man on the new cover for Entertainment Weekly's Comic-Con Preview. I've also included a new image featuring Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan).

Peter Parker's (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens up on May 2nd, 2014. Now that you've seen Electro's finished look, what do you think?

Jeff Bridges Battles Evil in First Trailer for THE SEVENTH SON

0
0

Legendary Pictures has released the first action packed trailer for their upcoming fantasy adventure The Seventh Son. In the film, Jeff Bridges' character has been tasked with fighting against evil forces.  I really enjoy watching movies like this, and I think this looks like it could be awesome.

The film was directed by Sergei Bodrov and also stars Ben Barnes, Alicia Vikander, Kit Harington, Olivia Williams, Antje Traue, Djimon Hounsou, and Julianne Moore

In a time long past, an evil is about to be unleashed that will reignite the war between the forces of the supernatural and humankind once more. Master Gregory (Jeff Bridges), the last of the Falcon Knights, had imprisoned the malevolently powerful witch, Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore), many years ago. But now she has escaped and is seeking vengeance. Summoning her followers of every incarnation, Mother Malkin is preparing to unleash her terrible wrath on an unsuspecting world. Only one thing stands in her way: Master Gregory. In a deadly reunion, Gregory comes face to face with the evil he always feared would someday return. He has only until the next full moon to do what usually takes years: train his new apprentice, Tom Ward (Ben Barnes) to fight a dark magic unlike any other. Man's only hope lies in the seventh son of a seventh son.

The movie is set to be released on January 17th, 2014. Watch the trailer for yourself and let us know if this looks like a film you'd be excited to watch on the big screen!

Aaron Taylor-Johnson Discusses Working on GODZILLA

0

Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson is taking the lead role as a Navy lieutenant in Gareth Edwards' upcoming big screen remake of Godzilla. The movie is going to have a huge presence at Comic-Con this year, and it looks like Legendary is going to go all out promoting it to the fanboys and fangirls of the world. If you plan on attending, it looks like we're in for a epic giant lizard treat. Last year they teased some stunning test footage of the film, and this year we're going to get to see the real thing!

Taylor-Johnson recently did an interview with Total Film (Via: Digital Spy),  and in it he discusses what it was like working on the film, revealing that very little green screen was used. He also explains that working on the film is more like an independent style production, which is interesting because this is going to be a very big tentpole movie for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. Here's what he said,

"The Godzilla crew is such a small group of people that it feels more like an independent movie than anything I've ever worked on."

He goes on to talk about the lack of green screen used on the film saying,

"I've hardly done any green screen stuff for it, he's [Edwards] really clever at doing the special effects. We'll shoot everything raw on location, on the streets, and he's going to put it all around us."

Then he talks about the training he went through in preparing for the movie.

"There's an etiquette for guys in the military, so there was training for that, how to hold guns and how to run and to talk to other officers. I love all that."

Godzilla also stars Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, and Bryan Cranston. The film is set to hit theaters May 16th, 2014 in 3D. I imagine a trailer will be released shortly after they premiere it at Comic-Con. I'm excited to see what they are doing with the movie, and especially what the Godzilla ends up looking like.

Check out this insanely badass series of art featuring robot character designs for several DC and Marvel comics superheroes. These were created by Justin Currie a.k.a. ChasingArtwork, and I love how they look. It'd be awesome to see these become some kind of series.

Thanks to Justin for sending these over to us! Hope you all like them.

George Lucas Says STAR WARS Stood on the Shoulders of STAR TREK

0
0

George Lucas admits in a recent interview for the upcoming documentary Trek Nation that Star Wars stood on the shoulders of Star Trek. He basically says Star Wars wouldn't have been as successful had Star Trek not help pave the way for it by building a sic-fi fantasy fan base. Here's the exact quote from Lucas thanks to Hero Complex,

“Star Trek softened up the entertainment arena so that Star Wars could come along and stand on its shoulders. There was an effective group of people in the beginning who accepted it..that it wasn't that far out. For the studios it was way far out, [they said] 'what is this?', but there was a fanbase out there -- primarily the Star Trek fanbase -- who understood sci-fi, understood visual sci-fi, and was ready for something like this (Star Wars) to be in the feature arena."

The Star Trek documentary the chronicles "Rod Roddenberry’s personal journey to explore the importance of the legendary sci-fi franchise dreamed up by his father Gene."

So whether you take the side of Star Wars or Star Trek each side has to accept Star Trek helped make Star Wars happen. Everyone should just be happy now and end the debate.

What If Superpowers Were Real - TED-Ed Video Series

0
0

Ever since I was a kid reading comic books I dreamed of having superpowers. How could you not?! They're awesome! It would be so cool to have super strength, read minds, and fly. Thanks to Ted-Ed, we have a six-part series of videos that you can watch that break down and explain the scientific ramifications of utilizing such powers.

For example, "did you know that being invisible would render you blind? The transparent retina in your eye would be unable to reflect light, therefore providing no information for your brain to interpret as “sight.” More gruesomely, if you could fly above the clouds at any respectable speed, your face would experience extreme heat due to friction. Sure, you could slow down, but then you might get a little chilly at such high altitudes (assuming you could breathe.) You could fly below the clouds, but you’d need to be quite nimble to avoid the millions of bugs that would inevitably obstruct your path! The list goes on…."

There are six superowers explored in the series by educator Joy Lin. Those powers include super speed, super strength, invisibility, body mass, immortality, and flight. Lin explores the the scientific and logical fallacies of these powers. There's a lot of cool stuff that you could learn here that you may have never thought about.

Check out the videos and let us know what your superpower of choice would be!

Vin Diesel Talks About His Marvel Meeting - Who Is He Playing!?

0
0

Last month Vin Diesel revealed that Marvel wanted to meet with him about one of their upcoming film projects. A lot of fans were wondering what role they might want him to take on in the Marvel cinematic universe. There's still no word on who they exactly want him to play, but the meeting did happen, and Diesel talked about it on his Facebook page saying,

"Marvel meeting today. Only the people in the room can tell you what was discussed...P.s. Thanks to Our page, for pushing to make it happen... you know I get tunnel vision with my work... and after that meeting today... wow!"

Now, there are two possibilities hinted at here. In the photo he released above, he's standing in front of a poster featuring Giant Man and there's a convenient arrow pointing at the character that says, "See the new Giant Man!" The other possibility is that Diesel used the word "Vision" in his response, and last year there was a rumor about the actor possibly being considered for the role of Vision. He does thank his Facebook fan page for pushing to make it happen, so there's a solid possibility that Vision is the character he could end up playing.

Who do you think Diesel will be playing?

30-Minute Documentary on the Making of GOODFELLAS

Goodfellas is easily one of my favorite Martin Scorsese films. I can watch it over and over again and not get tired of it. It's like the Shawshank Redemption of gangster movies. For those of you who are fans like me, you're going to want to watch this 30-minute documentary that focuses on the making of the classic. There's a lot of great insight in the doc that I know film geeks will really appreciate.

It's called Getting Made: The Making of Goodfellas, and it's included on the Blu-ray release for the film. It has now been put online for everyone to see! Check it out and enjoy! What's your favorite Martin Scorsese film?

Thanks to The Film Stage for the heads up.

The Red-Band Trailer for OLDBOY Is Here!

0
0

Here's the red-band trailer for Spike Lee's Oldboy remake, and what can I say other than it looks like a remake of Oldboy? You'll notice a few changes, but for the most part it looks like the same movie that was directed by Chan-wook Park. The good thing about the remake is that the story will reach a whole new audience, who will be inspired to watch the original.

The remake stars Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sharlto Copley.

Synopsis:

OLDBOY is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

The movie comes out on October 25th, 2013. I'll see the movie because it's got a great cast, and I'm still curious to see how it turns out, especially since they changed the ending. Watch the trailer and let us know if it gets you excited to see the movie.

Disney to Reveal Big STAR WARS: EPISODE VII News at D23 Expo?

by themadbutcher - via flicksandbits

It's no surprise that Star Wars is going to be a huge part of Disney's upcoming D23 Expo. They are planning events like Darth Vader: The Evolution of a Villain, which will show the development of the character, as well as a Crash Course in the Force: Star Wars Saga 101.  There are bigger things in store for the event, though.

THR is now reporting that the studio also has big plans for Star Wars: Episode VII. Instead of revealing any news at Comic-Con next week, they are going to be stingy and save it for D23. According to insiders, Disney and Lucasfilm will be making some announcements about the film, including confirming some of the Star Wars actors that will be returning to the franchise. Apparently the actors are going to show up and make an appearance at the expo.

It would be awesome if they also announced the stand alone films they are developing as well. I don't see why they wouldn't. At this point I'm sure they know what they're doing over the next 5 or 6 years.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. We'll be there to report on everything they reveal!

Two more character featurettes have surfaced for The Wolverine. The first focuses on the character Harada, a.k.a. The Silver Samurai, played by Will Yun Lee, and the other one focuses on Yukio, played by actress Rila Fukushima. Both videos include interviews with the actors who portrayed the characters and more new footage! I've also included a third clip from the film, featuring Logan's time as a POW in World War II.

The movie also stars Hugh Jackman, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, and Brian Tee. It hits theaters on July 26th.

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan.
