INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US - Opening Cinematic and Launch Trailer

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released the launch trailer and opening cinematic sequence for NetherRealm Studios upcoming DC superhero fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us. This is a fun game to play, and I think DC fans are going to have a lot of fun in this crazy alternate DC universe that has been created.

The opening sequence features Batman interrogating the Joker when a pissed off Superman flies in to finish the job. This sets the tone for the whole game. Although the CG animation used isn't top notch stuff, it's still fun to watch.

"Gods Among Us" debuts as a bold new fighting game franchise that introduces a deep, original story featuring a large cast of favorite DC Comics icons such as Batman, Cyborg, Harley Quinn, Nightwing, Deathstroke, Solomon Grundy, Superman, Lex Luthor, The Flash, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Bane, Catwoman, Shazam, Black Adam, Raven, the Joker, Doomsday, Killer Frost, Ares and more. Set in a world where the lines between good and evil are blurred, players will experience heroes and villains engaging in epic battles on a massive scale.
The game will be available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U on April 16th in North America and April 19th in Europe. Checkout the new trailer and opening scene! I just don't see how Superman won't just destroy everyone.

Here's another photo of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire to check out while we wait for the first trailer, which is supposed to be shown during the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, April 14th.

The movie is set to be released in theaters and IMAX on November 22nd, 2013.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

"You have no idea what you've done."

A new poster and international UK TV spot have been released for Star Trek Into Darkness. The spot features a couple little bits of new footage. According to Trek Movie we're going to start seeing even more domestic TV spots soon. Hopefully they don't contain any crazy spoilerish footage like all those Iron Man 3 TV spots we've been seeing.

The movie hits theaters on May 17th! We're so close yet so far away!

In the wake of a shocking act of terror from within their own organization, the crew of The Enterprise is called back home to Earth. In defiance of regulations and with a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads his crew on a manhunt to capture an unstoppable force of destruction and bring those responsible to justice.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Hilarious Disney STAR WARS Fan Parody Mashup Film

Star Wars VII - Return of the Empire might just be one of the funniest and best Disney Star Wars parody mashups that I've seen. There's a lot of fun stuff included in it that fans are sure to enjoy. It's also got some pretty cheesy moments, but all-in-all it ended up being entertaining. I loved Darth Vader's Mickey Mouse voice, and the Cars style Millennium Falcon. Watch the video and let us know what you liked or hated about it!

Mondo Announces OBLIVION Vinyl and Reveals Cover Art

Mondo has revealed that they are releasing the Oblivion soundtrack as a limited edition vinyl, and they've released the awesome art that was created for it.

Director Joseph Kosinski hired Anthony Gonzalez of M83 to do the film's score, which sounds extraordinary. As for the artwork you see here it comes from artist Killian Eng who had this to say about his work,

When I was given the honor to create artwork for the Oblivion soundtrack, I wanted to convey the feeling of a world that was left behind; a place full of traces and remnants of a civilization long gone. An environment that truly makes the person exploring it feel small is a theme I often come back to in my artwork. For the front cover I wanted to describe this in a peaceful way. The warm colors of a sunset, or sunrise, adds an air of tranquility, providing the image a nice balance against the sharp, dark silhouettes in the foreground.

Thanks to Mondo for sending over all this information to us! The record goes on sale April 26th, and it will cost you $25, make sure to follow @MondoNews for all of the information.

First Reaction to Spike Lee's OLDBOY Remake

As much as I don't like the idea of Chan-wook Park's Oldboy being remade by Spike Lee, I'm still interested in it and curious to see how it turns out. It's got an incredible cast of actors that include Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, and Samuel L. Jackson. We've been hearing that it's going to be even more dark and twisted than the original, which is hard to imagine. If you are curious to know what's in store for us, a review has hit the net that was posted on JoBlo. It discusses the performances in the film, the classic hallway fight sequence, the changes in the story, and the ending.

Just a warning there are SPOILERS here, but it sounds like this could be a solidly good remake. The person that sent in the review gave it an 8 out of 10, which isn't bad. I'm actually even more excited to see the movie after having read this review. Check it out!

On Brolin's performance:

Brolin’s performance as Joe (Oh dae-su from the original), in my opinion, can be paralleled to the anti-heroics of Walter White in Breaking Bad: you feel for him, you root for him, but that does not make him a good guy. The exposition of Joe in the beginning of the film does a bit of show and a bit of tell and does the right job of showing how much of a dirtbag he is. That way, when he gets abducted and imprisoned, you say to yourself, “the dick deserves it.” This version follows Joe a little more closely during his captivity (which is for twenty years, rather than the original’s fifteen). Brolin is at his best here as your heart breaks for him and you want desperately for his mental torture and anguish to be over.

On Copley's performance:

When he came on screen, I couldn’t even recognize him. He honestly blew me away with how good he was. You can tell that he’s having a great time playing a bad guy and loves to be the cat toying with a mouse right before he eats it. He comes across as someone who has immense pity for Joe while taking satisfaction from watching him squirm.

On Olsen's performance:

While both her and Copely are in supporting roles, Copely clearly got the meatier part and owns it better. I was a fan of Olsen’s performance, and she gave the character a good amount of depth, she didn’t blow me away nearly as much as Copely or Brolin did. However, I will say that it left me wanting more and I wish that she was given more to her backstory.

On the violence and similarities to the original:

Don’t worry, this is going to be rated R. Much like the original, acts two and three are very sadistic and “wrong.” The violence hasn’t been downplayed even a little bit as its just as sick and twisted as the original. If I had to summarize the violence in three words, they would bloody, gratuitous and hammer.

On the infamous "hallway" fight:

While they are basically the same across both versions, they do have some similarities. Rather than a fight down a long hallway, Joe is tasked with fighting guys down hallways across three floors. Some people in the screening found issue with this, but personally, I loved it. It was ridiculous and over the top in all the best ways. Would it hurt to have it trimmed? No. Would it be the end of the world to leave it as is? Absolutely not.

On the integrity of the ending:

The ending is even more incestuous than the original. The “big twist?” Still in there as is. However, the villain’s character…let’s just say the best thing about incest is that it’s the game the whole family can play! The last few minutes differ greatly from the Korean film in a way that I feel fits this version very well. I don’t want to give away too much, but to me, it almost makes more sense than the original’s ending.

Final thoughts:

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie and I can’t wait to see the final version of it in theatres. Even after seeing the original, I could say that I like them equally as much. The acting, story, and action all outweigh the negatives of the film, which can (and hopefully will be) fixed up before the final cut‘s release. I’ll give it an 8/10. And, as a quick note, the film was presented without a title, so we might have to start referring to it as something else sometime soon.

Head on over to JoBlo to read the full review, which also discusses Spike Lee's direction, and the changes, pacing, and cuts.

Costume Closet: Spotlight on Nightwing

Nightwing is a character I have grown to love over the last 10 years. He's Batman with a soul if you will. That's not troll bait mind you, just how I honestly feel. We could get into a whole other ball of wax regarding his time as Batman, which I personally thought was cut way too short, but that's for another article.

That said, Mr.Grayson has gone through many different looks throughout the years, and most recently has gone with a different color scheme as well with his New 52 design. DC proper however aren't the only ones to give the former boy wonder a new look, so here's a collection of some of my favorite redesigns outside of the house that Superman built. The Nightwing above btw is from artist extraordinaire Artgerm.

Nightwing by Coran Kizer Stone

Here, Grayson is a bit older, and while he is the most respected of the Bat family other than Bruce already, this design does a good job of conveying that, while still keeping the sleekness of his previous suit. Not a fan of grifter type masks, but it works in this instance.

Nightwing by Bobby Rubio

Here we have a far edgier version of the costume with cape included. I like this design, and could possibly see this as a replacement to the costume they ultimately went with for his time as Batman. It conveys the more serious aura if you will that Bruce always gave off, but has the aerodynamic pieces to it that cater to Dick. We all know he hates capes though, so this probably wouldn't be a good match to his normal persona.

Nightwing by Shoze

I love hoods. Seriously, from Captain Marvel to Green Arrow there isn't someone in DC proper that doesn't look better in a hood, and Nightwing is no different. This seems to be a younger take on Nightwing, but if anyone was going to take on that identity other than Dick, this suit would be on the top of my list of choices.

Nightwing by Aitor Erana

Purely just for fun, but I happen to love the idea behind it. Let him be more of a nightcrawler as it were and in the middle of the fight when it starts than just watching it from up above. I also dig the thinking behind the vest underneath and the holsters on his arms.

Nightwing by Alex Ross

Evidently Alex Ross took a stab at redesigning Nightwing (who knew), and from the limited sketch it appears to be an older version. Not Kingdom Come old (though maybe that is what it was for originally) but aged nonetheless. I actually like this look a great deal, and again, hoods are cool.

Nightwing by Eric Guzman

A bit more sic fi style to the design here, and I dig the neon sign like insignia on his chest. I guess there would be no mistaking who punched you in a brawl with this costume. One of my favorite things about it is the pseudo cowl formed by the highness of the neck and wideness of his mask. A cowl without a giant headpiece fits the character, who is all about freeform and speed, and his personality.

Nightwing by Marc Maraya

Last but not least, if the Nolanverse got ahold of Grayson's threads this is what it might look like. The costume actually would lend itself to Nolan's interpretation, but with one caveat. The mask would not be enough in the movie universe to keep anyone from knowing who that is, so something a bit more involved would be needed to make this work on screen. Maybe a hood?

Well, I think that about does it. Any cool redesigns that I missed? Send them my way if you see any and let me know what you think of the ones we spotlighted today.

ROMEO AND JULIET Trailer with Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth

Here we have yet another adaptation of the classic Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet. Directed by Italy’s Carlo Carlei, this new take on the classic story has quite the pedigree in terms of cast and script, coming from Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes. With an ensemble including Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth, as well as Damian Lewis, Ed Westwick, Paul Giamatti and Stellan Skarsgård.

I think the film looks soulless, offering nothing different than previous tellings. Here's the trailer in all its "glory".  Are you excited for yet another Romeo and Juliet?

Peter Berg to Direct Damon Lindelof's HBO Pilot THE LEFTOVERS

Battleship director Peter Berg has been hired to produce and direct the pilot episode for Damon Lindelof's new HBO series The Leftovers. The series is an adaptation of Tom Perrotta's novel, which "revolves around the Rapture and follows a group of people who are left behind in the suburban community of Mapleton. They must begin to rebuild their lives after the sudden and mysterious disappearance of more than 100 people."

This sounds like it will be an interesting series, and I'm excited to see how it turns out. Berg is hit and miss for me as a director. I'm sure Lindelof will deliver a great story and script, so I'm sure this new series is going to turn out just fine.

Here's the full description of the story from the book:

What if—whoosh, right now, with no explanation—a number of us simply vanished?  Would some of us collapse? Would others of us go on, one foot in front of the other, as we did before the world turned upside down?

That’s what the bewildered citizens of Mapleton, who lost many of their neighbors, friends and lovers in the event known as the Sudden Departure, have to figure out. Because nothing has been the same since it happened—not marriages, not friendships, not even the relationships between parents and children.

Kevin Garvey, Mapleton’s new mayor, wants to speed up the healing process, to bring a sense of renewed hope and purpose to his traumatized community. Kevin’s own family has fallen apart in the wake of the disaster: his wife, Laurie, has left to join the Guilty Remnant, a homegrown cult whose members take a vow of silence; his son, Tom, is gone, too, dropping out of college to follow a sketchy prophet named Holy Wayne.  Only Kevin’s teenaged daughter, Jill, remains, and she’s definitely not the sweet “A” student she used to be.  Kevin wants to help her, but he’s distracted by his growing relationship with Nora Durst, a woman who lost her entire family on October 14th and is still reeling from the tragedy, even as she struggles to move beyond it and make a new start.

With heart, intelligence and a rare ability to illuminate the struggles inherent in ordinary lives, Tom Perrotta has written a startling, thought-provoking novel about love, connection and loss.

Kingsley, Caine, and Sturgess Join Brad Anderson's ELIZA GRAVES

Session 9 director Brad Anderson is preparing to direct his next film called Eliza Graves, which is based on the Edgar Allen Poe short story, The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor. The turn of the century story is a thriller about a "young doctor who comes to apprentice at a remote mental institution. He meets a beautiful patient, with whom he falls in love under circumstances which may be much more complicated than they seem."

Anderson has been able to bring together a stellar cast for the movie which includes Kate Beckinsale, Michael Caine, Ben Kingsley, and Jim Sturgess. This might be the most impressive cast that Anderson has worked with so far. For the most part, I'm a big fan of Anderson's films. Although, I didn't really care for his last one The Call. Not sure what happened there but I won't hold it against him.

As far as the original story goes, it's a dark comedy about "a wandering traveller who, out of curiosity, investigates an insane asylum that is reputed to employ a highly liberal method of treatment that allows patients to wander freely about the grounds, and encourages the doctors to freely indulge and even encourage their delusions. Upon arriving at the asylum, however, the traveler discovers the patients locked away in cells and is told that an incident occurred a few weeks prior that forced the suspension of the soothing system."

Eliza Graves is scheduled to start shooting on June 24th, and this should turn out to be an excellent movie!

I admit I have a man crush on Clive Owen, and Shadow Dancer looks like another superb performance and overall just a great looking film.

Academy Award winning director James Marsh is behind this British thriller which also stars Andrea Riseborough and Gillian Anderson

Single mother Collette McVeigh (Andrea Riseborough) is a Republican living in Belfast with her mother and hardliner IRA brothers. When she is arrested for her part in an aborted IRA bomb plot in London, an MI5 officer (Clive Owen) offers her a choice: lose everything and go to prison for 25 years or return to Belfast to spy on her family. With her son's life in her hands, Collette chooses to place her trust in Mac and return home, but when her brothers' secret operation is ambushed, Collette finds both herself and her family in grave danger.

The world could use more slow burning, tension mounting thrillers like this. It will be released in theaters on May 31st.
