Jamie Foxx to Write and Direct Horror Anthology Series for SyFy

Ever since Jamie Foxx has taken on the role of Electro in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, we've learned that deep down the guy is a geek that enjoys many of the same things we do. I'm pretty sure he's also the Oscar winner that has been bugging Todd McFarlane about getting the Spawn film made. We've now learned that Foxx is set to write, direct, and produce a new horror anthology series for the SyFy Channel! He might even star in it!

According to the report it will be a 5-episode series that will premiere during Syfy’s annual 31 Days Of Halloween programming marathon this October. There's no title for the series yet, but it's described as being in the same vein as Tales From The Crypt and The Twilight Zone. It will tell "creepy morality tales with themes such as envy, jealousy and superficiality." Foxx had this to say in a statement,

This is a project that I’ve wanted to do for a long time and I’m so happy to see it come to life. Get ready to lose it when some special friends and I bring the scares this October, and who knows… maybe I’ll make a guest appearance or two along the way!

Syfy's Mark Stern added, "Jamie Foxx’s passion and unique perspective will transform these universal insights on the human condition into emotionally potent and truly scary cautionary tales." I love a good horror anthology series, and I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of fun he's planning! What do you think about Foxx taking on a series like this?

Mike Ferris (Terminator: Salvation) and John Pogue (Army Wives, Everwood) will also be working with Foxx on writing the series.

GO THE F--K TO SLEEP To Get Feature Film Adaptation

Fox 2000 is going to adapt the hilariously vulgar children's parody book Go the F--k to Sleep for the big screen. They've hired husband and wife screenwriting team Ken Marino and Erica Oyama Marino to write the script. The title for the film has also been slightly changed to Go the F to Sleep.

The book was written by Adam Mansbach who became frustrated with being unable to get his young daughter to go to sleep at night. The book was illustrated by Ricardo Cortes, and it became famous when Samuel L. Jackson ended up narrating it, which I've included below.

Here's the official description of the book:

"Go the F--k to Sleep" is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland. Profane, affectionate, and radically honest, California Book Award–winning author Adam Mansbach’s verses perfectly capture the familiar—and unspoken—tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night. In the process, they open up a conversation about parenting, granting us permission to admit our frustrations and laugh at their absurdity.

With illustrations by Ricardo Cortés, "Go the F--k to Sleep" is beautiful, subversive, and pants-wettingly funny—a book for parents new, old, and expectant.

You probably should not read it to your children.

I could see this turning out to be a great comedy, and it'd be pretty cool if they ended up getting Jackson to star in it.

Trailer for the New Surfing Doc - STORM SURFERS 3D

Check out this cool trailer for a crazy looking new surfing documentary called Storm Surfers 3D. I love watching surf documentaries! I'm a huge fan of films such as The Endless Summer parts one and two, Riding Giants, Billabong Odyssey and several more. Storm Chasers looks like it's going to make a great addition to all of those docs. Not only am I a fan of these films, but I also enjoy surfing, just not waves as big as these guys ride, because I would die.

The film centers on Aussie surfers Ross Clarke-Jones and Tom Carroll as they hunt down the craziest waves on the planet and then ride them. The movie is narrated by Toni Collette, and you can check out the first trailer here! I can't wait to see this film! It looks intense.

ROBOCOP Director to Take on THE BROTHERHOOD Crime Thriller

The director of the Robocop remake, Jose Padilha, is setting up his next film project at Warner Bros., a crime thriller called The Brotherhood. The film will be an adaptation of the book The Brotherhoods: The True Story of Two Cops Who Murdered for the Mafia, which was written by Guy Lawson and William Oldham.

The story "centers on two corrupt detectives, one working surreptitiously for the Luchese crime family, the other for the Gambino family. For years the men threw cases, scrapped evidence and even killed. Oldham is the third point in the story, a detective who spent more than seven years tracking the men, eventually bringing them to justice in a sensational trial."

This could be an incredible project for the Brazilian filmmaker, who got his big break making the gritty crime films Elite Squad and Elite Squad 2. Here's a more detailed description of the story from the book:

From inside the heart of the NYPD - The shattering police corruption scandal and the trial that stunned a city.

Detective Stephen Caracappa achieved the distinguished rank of first grade detectve while under the hire of the Luchese crime family.

Detective Louis Eppolito worked the heart of Brooklyn's mobland; he himself was the son of a Gambino crime family soldier.

Detective William Oldham, the lead investigator on major organized-crime cases, quietly and relentlessly tracked Caracappa and Eppolito for more than seven years.

The Brotherhoods is the riveting account of the notorious rogue cops charged with murdering for the mob, and the brilliant detective who stalked them. With unparalleled access to both the NYPD and organized crime, a gallery of unforgettable characters, and sweeping from Manhattan to Las Vegas to Hollywood, this is the ultimate wiseguy story, packed with psychological intrigue, criminal audacity, and paranoid, blood-soaked fury.

Now with updates on the trial's shocking outcome and the ongoing legal battle.

Here's a collection of photos that have surfaced from the set of Matt Reeve's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The images feature Jason ClarkeKeri Russell, Andy Serkis, and a bunch of other actors wearing motion-capture suits for the ape roles.

The sequel is set 15 years after the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. They also reveal that one part of the story will focus on a "group of human scientists who are struggling to survive alone in San Francisco." The other part of the story will center on "intelligent ape Caesar [who struggles to] maintain dominance over his kingdom."

Fox has set the film for release on May 23rd, 2014. Hopefully it ends up being a solidly good sequel.

McAdams Cast in New Cameron Crowe Film

Cameron Crowe is prepping up to shoot his next feature film for Sony Pictures. He's looking to cast Rachel McAdams alongside Emma Stone and Bradley Cooper.

The movie still has no title, and there's not much known about the story, but it's a romantic comedy that's been compared to Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire. McAdams will play a former lover of Cooper’s character. The two previously played a couple in Wedding Crashers.

It's been previously speculated that the movie could be Deep Tiki, the supernatural romantic comedy that Crowe was developing before making We Bought A Zoo. Crowe wrote the script and will direct the film beginning this October.

If it is Deep Tiki, the story centers on a disgraced military weapons consultant who is deployed to a dormant base in Hawaii to supervise the launch of a spy satellite. While there he discovers himself and thinks about the relationships he left behind. The story is set against the backdrop of mythical island lore and Cold War-esque diplomacy. It even involved visions of Hawaiian Gods and a volcano sacrifice.

I've enjoyed most of Crowe's films, and whatever story this movie ends up telling, I'm sure it will be a good one.

Very Red-Band Trailer for James McAvoy's FILTH

Here's an insane red-band trailer for a new film called Filth, which stars James McAvoy. The trailer is most definitely NSFW. This might just be the craziest movie that McAvoy has been a part of. The movie comes from writer-director Jon S. Baird. Here's the synopsis...

A bipolar, bigoted, junkie cop manipulates and hallucinates his way through the festive period, until he finally meets his match… himself.

Scheming Bruce Robertson (James McAvoy), a bigoted and corrupt policeman, is in line for a promotion and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Enlisted to solve a brutal murder and threatened by the aspirations of his colleagues, including Ray Lennox (Jamie Bell), Bruce sets about ensuring their ruin, right under the nose of unwitting Chief Inspector Toal. As he turns his colleagues against one another by stealing their wives and exposing their secrets, Bruce starts to lose himself in a web of deceit that he can no longer control. His past is slowly catching up with him, and a missing wife, a crippling drug habit and suspicious colleagues start to take their toll on his sanity. The question is: can he keep his grip on reality long enough to disentangle himself from the filth?

The film also has a great supporting cast that includes Jamie Bell, Imogen Poots, Jim Broadbent, Eddie Marsan, Joanne Froggatt, Emun Elliott, Martin Compston, and Kate Dickie. There's no word yet on when the film will be released, but you can watch the hardcore trailer below. Check it out!

First Look at Eva Green in 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE

Thanks to EW we have our first look at Eva Green as Artemisia, "the vengeful commander of the Persian navy." As you can see, she looks stunning. She's ready to kick some ass and send some people to hell.

The sequel is being directed by Noam Murro, and the story will have an aquatic setting and follows the Persian king-turned-god Xerxes as he leads an army against Greek forces, who have little training but are under the guidance of the general Themistokles. (The giant battle at the center of this movie is supposed to occur at the same time as the fighting in 300.) The director previously teased the epic size of the sequel saying,

[Rise of an Empire] happens over time in many different locations. The opportunities for the six distinct battles are even greater with different locations and tactics… The few against the many is still here. It’s hundreds vs. hundreds of thousands. It’s about taking on the mightiest power of all with wisdom and tactics.

The film also stars Rodrigo Santoro returning as Xerxes, Sullivan Stapleton, who plays Themistokles, Lena Headey, Hans Matheson, Igal Naor, Callan Mulvey, Jack O'Connell, and Andrew Tiernan. It's set to be released in 2D, 3D, and IMAX and August 2nd, 2013.

Morgan Freeman Joins Johnny Depp in TRANSCENDENCE

Legendary actor Morgan Freeman is the latest actor to join the cast of Wally Pfister's sci-fi film Transcendence, which Christopher Nolan is producing. Freeman joins Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany, and Kate Mara in the film. I love the story concept, and Freeman will of course make an amazing addition to the cast.

From what we know of the film right now, the story revolves around three scientists, Max and a husband and wife team, Will and Evelyn, who "have been developing a programming code for the world’s first fully self-aware computer." Depp plays a scientist whose brain is uploaded into the supercomputer creating the world’s first machine that can think for itself. The story contains themes of singularity and nanotechnology. Here's a more detailed breakdown of the story that was previously released,

A group of anti-technology terrorists assassinate Will, Evelyn uploads his brain into a prototype supercomputer. Although she at first finds the experiment seems to have gone wrong, before too long Evelyn finds Will responding in computer form.

She goes on to connect Will to the Internet so he can help make further scientific breakthroughs. Will asks Evelyn to connect a microphone and a camera up to the computer so he can see and speak to her as well.

Will creates a backup of himself to every computer in the world, and furthers his work through accessing online indexes. When the anti-technology organization finds out, they try to steal the supercomputer and destroy it, but Will no longer needs the computer to survive.

The film is scheduled to be released on April 25th, 2014. It will shoot this May in Los Angeles.

Japanese Movie Poster for THE WOLVERINE

Logan is "torn between life and death" in this new Japanese poster for James Mangold's The Wolverine. One thing we know for sure is Logan is going to be kicking some ass! It's cool to see that he'll be wielding a samurai sword in the film as well. As the trailer shows us, Wolverine will have his abilities taken away from him so that he can live a normal life, which would force him to use a sword as a weapon if he wants to slice some people up.

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

The movie slashes its way into theaters on July 26th, 2013!

Robert Redford to Play Bank Robber in THE OLD MAN AND THE GUN

Robert Redford is set to start in a new heist thriller called The Old Man and the Gun, which is being directed by David Lowery whose film Ain't Them Bodies Saints premiered this year at Sundance. I liked that movie, and I think this sounds like a fitting project for him to take on. It's being adapted from a 2003 article in The New Yorker written by David Grann. Redford is also attached as a producer.

According to the report, the film "tells the true story of Forrest Tucker, a man born in 1920 who, as a lifelong bank robber, spent most of his life in jail or escaping from jail. (He had 18 escapes under his belt, including one from Alcatraz and one from San Quentin.) The article focused on Tucker at age 78, living in a retirement community with his third wife and still having the hankering to rob banks. In fact, he was caught by police after a robbery and high-speed chase in 2000 and sentenced to 13 years. He died in 2005. Lowery’s take focuses on a specific time period in Tucker's life, though details were not revealed."

This sounds like an interesting story, and a movie I'd like to see. There's some solid talent involved with it, so I'm sure it will end up being a really good film.

TALES OF XILLIA: Just the RPG I Need

$

You couldn't tell by my current collection (which consists of Tomb Raider, Gears of War Judgement, Batman Arkham City, & soon to be Injustice: Gods Among Us), but I love JRPG's. I also love color, which while beautiful none of those games are especially filled with. Enter Tales of Xillia, which is finally being brought over to the states on August 6 of this year. What is Tales of Xillia? Let me fill you in.

The Tales Series has been going for quite some time, and while there are many reasons the series has become iconic amongst its fans, the one I would like to highlight is how unapologetically Japanese it is. True, there are other series that do this, but Tales has a certain way about it, especially as a more heavily hyped title in this day and age of the more modern (i.e. Western) RPG. While companies like Square have tried to modernize their experiences, Namco Bandai has let the Tales team do what it does best, and I say we are all the better for it. Xillia looks to deliver all the hallmarks of the JRPG's of yore, with its colorful and bright world, tons of exploration, a party of likeable characters who walk the fine line between complex and trope, and delivering a more refined version of one of the best combat systems in recent memory (though I will say that screen above does make me miss Grandia). Peep the trailer to get a glimpse of what I'm talking about.

If you played Tales of Vesperia you know how great the combat was, but one thing that was just so-so in that title was the leveling system. It's pretty standard fare; while I love learning new abilities, there wasn't a whole lot of choice in how your characters developed. In Xillia, the developer has adopted a more expansive and detail oriented approach. Much like Final Fantasy XII's License Board (which is still one of my favorite leveling up systems period) you get to really customize your character the way you see fit. You can go for that one ability you really want, or try and get a little bit of everything, but it's up to you, and that is something that was definitely missing from Vesperia.

The story revolves around 2 characters name Jude Mathis and Milla Maxwell, who end up involved in a quest to restore the mana that has been sapped from the world. Not ground breaking stuff story wise, and even a little reminiscent of Vesperia, but what Tales does so well is make you not care so much about the goal at the end, but more about how the characters get there. The cliched line of "its more about the Journey" applies heavily here, but they've done it well in the past, so there is no reason to think Xillia will be any different. Numerous small character scenes, even when on the overmap, help break up the monotony of town-battle-town-battle-battle-battle-cave-town, something that many RPG's could learn from.

So, if you're at all as interested as I am then the recent spotlight on the collectors edition of the game might intrigue you. Aside from the game itself, you get the 100 page art book, the special selection (what does that mean?) music cd, and the pretty snazzy on its own Milla figure. You can preorder now through the official page. Is anyone planning on grabbing one? Peep the screens below and let us know in the comments.

Trailer Description for THOR: THE DARK WORLD

Marvel recently showed off a trailer for Thor: The Dark World at the Disney Consumer Show in Mexico City. This is the first time I know of that they showed any footage to an audience. MarvelMexico was in attendance, and gave a little description of what was shown. It's not very detailed, but it hits the main points.

Vice President of Marvel International Nigel Cook gave the presentation and introduced the trailer. The people that saw it claim that the movie doesn't look like anything that we've seen in the set photos, which is expected, and apparently it's awesome. Cook did say that the trailer will play in front of Iron Man 3 on May 3rd, so that gives us something more to look forward to!

Here's the description...

It starts with a voiceover, is Thor, you see some scenes of a big battle and then Jane Foster and other humans running scared cause something is "coming". Thor says: "I promised I would return for you" as we see Thor arriving Earth to take Jane to Asgard.

Apparently the fight scenes are pretty awesome, and the trailer show that Thor is out of Malekith's league, in fact we can see a very damaged and tired God of Thunder. And since he's no match for the Dark Elve, the mighty Avenger will have to search for help. This lead us to a scene where we see a big crystal prision and there's someone sit on the ground. It's Loki. Thor says: I need your help, but if you betray me…I will kill you. Loki smiles and answers: What do I have to do?

Then we see another scene of Thor figthing Malekith while Jane is watching. Malekith looks threatening. Jane looks terrified. Thor looks overwhelmed. Malekith stares at Jane and Thor yells: NOOOOO!

I can't wait to see this for myself, it sounds like it's going to be an intense trailer.

Native American Style Superhero Geek Art

It's exciting when I come across new and different kind of art styles representing some of our favorite superheroes, and this is a set that many of you are sure to enjoy. These designs come from artist Jeffrey Veregge, who grew up on a reservation in the Pacific Northwest and studied traditional coastal Salish art. He ended up using his knowledge and skills to create these beautiful pieces of art. These would actually make pretty cool tattoo designs.

Here's  note from the artist:

A member of the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe, I was raised and spent a majority of my life on our reservation known locally as Little Boston, which is located near Kingston, Washington. Although I am enrolled there, I am also both of Suquamish and Duwamish tribal ancestry.

I am a honor graduate from the Art Institute of Seattle, and I have had the privilege to study with Tsimshian master carver David Boxley for a short time learning the basics of Salish form-line design . . . [My work] is a reflection of a lifetime love affair with comic books, toys, TV and film. Taking my passions and blending them with my Native perspective.
