Liam Neeson and Woody Harrelson will Hunt Down Bonnie & Clyde

0
0

Liam Neeson and Woody Harrelson are looking to star in a new film called Highwaymen. They will play the two Texas Rangers that hunted and killed the popular Depression Era bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde.

John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) is set to directed the film from a script written by John Fusco (Hidalgo, Young Guns). The drama "focuses on legendary lawman Frank Hamer, who was coaxed by a consortium of banks to assemble a posse and end the robbery reign of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow in the 1930s." Hamer was an old-school Texas Ranger that killed 52 people and survived over 100 gunfights. He set his sights on Bonnie and Clyde after their gang organized a jail break and killed a guard.

This sounds like it will be a very cool movie, and Frank Hamer is sure to make a fantastic character on the big screen. I've always been fascinated by the crime phase during the depression era, and I'm excited to see that this movie is getting made.

I remember my great grandma telling me a story of how she met Bonnie and Clyde when she was a little girl. She was sitting in front of a store when they drove up in their car, she said Bonnie patted her on the head and introduced herself as Bonnie and the man as Clyde. She proceeded to ask for my great grandmas name, which she gave, and then they walked into the store. When they came back out Bonnie handed her a sucker, said goodbye, got in their car and drove away. She said Bonnie was one of the nicest and most beautiful women she ever met. She was sad when she found out they had been killed. Later in life my great grandma ended up naming her own daughter Bonnie. I always that that was cool, so I thought I'd share.

The first trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is set to premiere during the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, April 14th. To tide the fans over until then, Lionsgate has launched a new website, TheHungerGamesExplorer.com. They also released the new image above featuring Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) as she returns home to her sister Prim (Willow Shields). The website also allows fans to unlock more new content by using the hashtag: #HungerGamesExplorer.

The movie was directed by Francis Lawrence and also stars Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, Woody Harrelson, Jena Malone, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amanda Plummer, Lynn Cohen, Patrick St. Esprit, Meta Golding, Bruno Gunn, Alan Ritchson, E. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER - New Suit Design Concept!

I've enjoyed what they've done with Captain America's suit designs in Captain America: The First Avenger and in The Avengers. I thought they were both pretty awesome. However, a lot of people didn't seem to care for his latest costume in The Avengers. I've been looking forward to seeing what the next version of the suit would look like in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and now thanks to CBM we have our first look at a piece of concept art that was done for the film! I love it!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will pick-up where Marvel’s The Avengers left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

The movie is set to be released on April 4th, 2014. What do you think of the new costume design? It looks like it was somewhat inspired by Bucky Barnes' heroic age suit pictured below.

It looks like we're going to get an epically chaotic conclusion in Todd PhillipsThe Hangover III. Fans of the comedy franchise are in for a hilariously awesome new adventure!

This time, there’s no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off.

The film stars  Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha, Ken JeongMelissa McCarthy, Gillian Vigman, Sasha Barrese, Jeffrey Tambor, Heather Graham, and Jamie Chung. It's set to be released on May 24th. Enjoy the trailer!

MAN OF STEEL Cast and Crew on Characters, Justice League, and Story

Earlier today, we posted some awesome new images from Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. The images come from the most recent issue of Entertainment Weekly, which includes an in depth look at the film that also features interviews with the cast and crew talking about the movie. There's some interesting stuff they reveal about the characters, but don't worry, it's nothing that will spoil the movie! Here's what Henry Cavill had to say about his character,

Imagine what it would be like to be someone like Clark Kent/Kal-El, and feel like a stranger amongst even those that you love, never developing full relationships with people for fear of them discovering how much of a freak you are. Even you don't understand exactly what you are. It's just a lonely existence. With someone who has that much power and responsibility. Although he is not susceptible to the frailties of mankind, he is definitely susceptible to the emotional frailties.

It was previously revealed that there would be no Kryptonite in the movie and that basically those emotional frailties Cavill is talking about are Superman's Kryptonite, Zack Snyder explained,

I'll be honest with you. There's no Kryptonite in the movie. It's all emotional Kryptonite.

Michael Shannon's General Zod and Antje Traue's Faora are sure also to give Superman a hard time as well. Here's what Shannon had to say about the two characters,

He actually has some affection for anybody who's a Kryptonian. Including Superman. He doesn't really have any malignant feelings toward him; he just wants him to be patriotic. Faora is a psychopath. She is an engineered being, and driven by the need and pleasure of killing.

An engineered being? That's interesting. Good thing screenwriter David Goyer explained a little bit about what that means revealing that most babies on Krypton aren't born, they're engineered.

People were bred to be warriors or scientists or what-have-you, and there's a whole element in the movie about nature versus nurture. Kal-El is unique among Kryptonian babies because he's a natural conception, free from genetic manipulation to choose his own course in life --- which also makes his existence highly illegal.

Now one thing that a lot of people are wondering is if Man of Steel lead into the Justice League movie that the studio has been developing. While he doesn't come right out and say it, producer Chris Roven does say that Man of Steel will pave the way for future DC movies saying,

It's setting the tone for what the movies are going to be like going forward. In that, Man of Steel is definitely a first step. Nolan's Dark Knight series was deliberately and smartly positioned as a stand-alone. The world the films lived in was very isolated, without any knowledge of other superheroes. What Zack and Chris have done with this film is allow you to really introduce other characters into the same world.

So it sounds like it's definitely a possibility! When asked if we would see any references to other DC characters in Man of Steel, Goyer said,

I would love to tell you yes or no, but I think it's going to be more exciting for people to keep a beady eye out and find what they can find.

They are obviously there; the fans are just going to have to keep an eye out for them. That gives us something more to look forward to when we see the film on June 14th!

VERONICA MARS Comic-Con Details Revealed

Veronica Mars is coming to San Diego Comic-Con, and Rob Thomas has revealed all of the details that he knows so far! As a fan of the series, I'm excited for the movie. I'm hoping to make it into this Veronica Mars Comic-Con event while I'm there. Here are all the details...

We'll definitely be there in July. We're still working with the organizers to figure out if we'll be holding an official, scheduled panel as part of ComicCon. I'll let you know when I hear more about that, but either way, you'll be able to meet us for autograph signings at the Warner Bros. booth.

We're throwing our own private event, just for our fans. After yesterday's update, a lot of you asked whether our SDCC event would be open to people who weren't able to get passes for ComicCon itself. And happily, the answer is ABSOLUTELY. Even if we have an official panel at SDCC, we're planning to pull out all the stops for our own exclusive event, so this is the one you'll want to be at.

The Veronica Mars Fan Event (don't worry, we'll come up with a better name for it) will happen on July 19, 2013 at 7:30 PM, in what I understand to be an intimate theatrical venue in the Gaslamp District, near the Convention Center.

I'll be there, along with as many of our cast members as I can bring along, and we'll be doing an exclusive Q & A session. And yes, since you're wondering: we will be debuting some exclusive footage from the movie, and you will be the first to see it. (Except for me and our editors, obviously.) Doors will open at 7, and admission will be first-come, first-served... unless you want to reserve a spot now.

For those of you that do, we're going to be adding a few Comic Con related reward options tomorrow (Thursday) at exactly 1:00 pm EST.

The SDCC Fan Package guarantees you a single reserved seat for the Fan Event, in case you want to roll up fashionab ly late without waiting in line, and the SDCC VIP Package guarantees you a reserved seat up front at the Fan Event and some face time with me and the cast during a brief invite-only Meet & Greet event the same day.

(For those of you who can't make it to San Diego, don't worry: we'll also be recording the entire event so that all of our backers get to see it.)

Trailer for the Amazing Coming of Age Comedy THE WAY, WAY BACK

0
0

The Way, Way Back was one of the best movies I saw up at Sundance earlier this year, and today we present the first trailer for the film! This is an incredibly well made, scripted, and acted coming of age comedy that stars Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Allison Janney, AnnaSophia Robb, Sam Rockwell, Maya Rudolph, Amanda Peet, Rob Corddry, and Liam James.

THE WAY, WAY BACK is the funny and poignant coming-of-age story of 14-year-old Duncan’s (Liam James) summer vacation with his mother, Pam (Toni Collette), her overbearing boyfriend, Trent (Steve Carell), and his daughter Steph (Zoe Levin). Having a rough time fitting in, the introverted Duncan finds an unexpected friend in gregarious Owen (Sam Rockwell), manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his funny, clandestine friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up and begins to finally find his place in the world—all during a summer he will never forget.

Rockwell steals the movie, and he gives one of his best performances ever. It also features Carell playing a jackass character that we've never quite seen him do before, and he pulls it off perfectly. Here's what Ben had to say about the film in his review.

This could end up being one of the funniest movies of the year... We've seen a lot of films with the same themes as this one, but every element comes together very well and coalesces into a really special coming of age story. The Way, Way Back is strong, confident, dramatic, and laugh-out-loud funny.

You can watch our video review of the film here. The movie opens up this summer on July 5th. There's going be a ton of big badass tentpole movies coming out this summer, but I highly suggest that you squeeze this one in there because I'm sure you're going to enjoy it. Check out the trailer!

ASSASSINS CREED: REBEL BLADES - Cool Fan-Made Short Film

I've been catching up on the fantastic stuff they've been doing over at CorridorDigital. I know many of you have seen this, but if you haven't, this is an amazing Assassins Creed 3 inspired fan made film called Assassins Creed: Rebel Blades. It features Connor Kenway coming to the rescue of a young boy who is about to be assassinated by a group of Redcoats. The short is a great representation of the game, and the fight sequences are done extremely well. When I see fan films as good as this one, it gets me excited for what we might end up seeing in the big screen adaptation.

Sylvester Stallone Wants Mel Gibson to Direct THE EXPENDABLES 3

I don't care what anyone says; all Mel Gibson craziness aside, the guy is one hell of a talented filmmaker. Sylvester Stallone recognizes that talent, and it seems like he's looking to possibly hire him to direct The Expendables 3! Stallone recently tweeted out the following,

Most of the comments seem to be on the positive side. It looks like a lot of people would love to see Gibson take on an Expendables movie, and why the hell not?! I think it would be a fun project for him to work on! I kind of hope this team-up actually happens. Maybe Gibson will even make an appearance in the film, who knows.

All I know is I really wanted to see that Viking movie he was developing with Leonardo DiCaprio. It seems like that is never going to happen.

Would you like to see Gibson direct The Expendables 3

STAND BY ME Tribute Art - "The Body"

"The train had knocked Ray Brower out of his Keds just like it had knocked the life out of his body. The kid wasn't sick. The kid wasn't sleeping. The kid was dead."

Artist Jeff Victor whipped up this marvelous piece of tribute art for the classic Rob Reiner film Stand By Me. He calls it "The Body," which is the title of the original story that was written by Stephen King. This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I absolutely love what Victor did with these characters and this scene. He's got such a fun style.

The Walking Dead’s Glen Mazzara Will Write THE SHINING Prequel

Warner Bros. in talks with Walking Dead writer and producer Glen Mazzara to write their prequel to Stephen King's The Shining. The movie was announced last year, and the story will focus on what happened before Jack, Wendy, and Danny arrived at the haunted hotel where Jack ends up descending into violent madness.

The movie would be based on a prologue for the book called "Before the Play," which ended up being cut from the original book. There is a very long and dark history to the Overlook Hotel, which starts with it being built on an Indian burial ground and extends to the caretaker Delbert Grady chopping up his family with an axe prior to Jack showing up.

King recently said that he didn't like the idea of a prequel, but the WB is moving forward with it regardless of what he thinks. But he also said that the prologue he wrote included some "really scary stuff... that wouldn’t make a bad movie."

Hopefully Mazzara will be able to write a terrifyingly fantastic script! This film has a lot of potential, and I'm excited for it! Do you think Mazzara is a solid choice to take on this horror franchise?

Dark and Gritty Fan Trailer for POWER RANGERS Film

Just because you re-imagine something as being dark, gritty, grounded, and realistic doesn't mean it's going to make it better. It's still fun to see when fans take older properties and do it though! Here's a teaser trailer for a new vision of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers directed by Dominick Sivilli and written by Alex Gavin. The teaser has pretty solid production value, and it features the Power Rangers villain. There are no Power Rangers seen in the trailer, which I was a little bummed about, but that's ok. I was never a big fan of the Power Rangers in the first place. If you are a fan, after you watch the video let us know what you thought!

First Official Look at Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds in R.I.P.D.

We've seen a few photos from the set of the big screen adaptation of the comic R.I.P.D., but today we have our first official look at Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds as the two main characters in the cool sounding fantasy crime thriller. Bridges just looks like a badass!  Here is a description of the story:

Nick is dead -- at least, that's how he remembers it -- and teams up with another deceased detective, a gunslinger from the Old West (played by Jeff Bridges), to work for the elite task force, the Rest In Peace Department (hence the title), to track down the dead on Earth. (Due to overpopulation, some unsettled spirits haven't gone where they're supposed to, and are hiding out). Technically, R.I.P.D. officers (who are overseen by Mary-Louise Parker) aren't allowed to kill anyone living, and aren't supposed to interact with anyone from their previous lives, but Nick is haunted by the fact that he was murdered by another cop (played by Kevin Bacon), and can't let it go.

R.I.P.D. also stars Kevin Bacon, James Hong, Marisa Miller, Mary-Louise Parker, and Stephanie Szostak. It's set to hit theaters until July 19th, 2013.

FRIENDS Sitcom Style Opening For BATTLESTAR GALACTICA

This is an amusing video mashup that gives us a Friends inspired opening sequence for Battlestar Galactica. It was created by Youtuber MugAGum. As different as these two shows are, it's surprising how many people enjoyed watching them both. One of the things I loved about Battlestar Galactica was that it connected with all of different kinds of personalities. A lot of people that normally wouldn't watch sci-fi shows were watching this one. This video mashup actually works pretty well.

POINT BREAK Remake Lands a Director

It's been awhile since we've heard any news on the Point Break remake being developed by Alcon Entertainment, but the production company has hired Invincible cinematographer Ericson Core to direct the film.

The new version is set in the world of international extreme sports, and like the original involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring. I'm sure they're going to try to make this movie as extreme and over the top as possible. It'll either be ridiculously fun like the original or flat out stupid like most remakes end up being.

The original 1991 film is a classic, and a movie I can't help but watch whenever I come across it. It was directed by Kathryn Bigelow and starred Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. It will be interesting to see how this remake turns out, but I'm not getting my hopes up. This is one of those films that I can see leaving people disappointed.

THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS Batman Vs. Superman Statue

DC Collectibles is selling this badass statue, which is based on the climactic fight between Batman and Superman from Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. The statue was sculpted by Derek Miller, and it's 11 inches tall. It also features Batman's sidekick Robin hiding in the wreckage beneath the fight. I've always loved that Batman armor design!

The Batman vs. Superman Statue can be purchased for $243.59 on Amazon.

THE WALKING DEAD Season 3 VFX Reel - Zombie Death Magic

I love watching these visual effects reels! I'm always surprised by what I see. Here's a very cool behind the scenes reel for The Walking Dead season 3 that was created by the team at Stargate Studios. It shows off a ton of bloody zombie kill VFX magic. This might as well be a Walking Dead zombie kill supercut. One of the most interesting things I saw in this video though was how little of the prison actually exists.

“It’s been the season of decapitations,” declares Stargate Studios visual effects supervisor Victor Scalise, reflecting on season three of AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead.’ In this series, the characters fortify themselves inside an abandoned prison while still trying to survive the zombie apocalypse. Stargate once again provided digital effects for the show, matching extensive practical and make-up effects work by KNB EFX Group (one of the co-founders of KNB, Greg Nicotero is a co-executive producer, special effects makeup artist, director and also actor on The Walking Dead).

Enjoy the VFX reel!

New Trailer for Ron Howard's Formula One Film RUSH

0
0

Here's a new domestic theatrical trailer for Ron Howard's intense looking Formula One racing film Rush, which stars Chris HemsworthOlivia Wilde, and Daniel Brühl. I'm not really that familiar with Formula One racing, but I do know it's the biggest sport in the world, and this looks like it's going to be a hell of a good movie. It tells the true story of the rivalry between drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda in 1976. Howard is a terrific director who has a solid track record, and this looks like it could be one of his better films.

The film stars Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) as the charismatic Englishman James Hunt and Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds) as the disciplined Austrian perfectionist Niki Lauda, whose clashes on the Grand Prix racetrack epitomized the contrast between these two extraordinary characters, a distinction reflected in their private lives. Olivia Wilde (TRON: Legacy) and Alexandra Maria Lara (The Reader) also star in the film.

The movie races into theaters on September 20th, 2013, and the new trailer includes a lot of new footage!

Adrien Brody to Play Harry Houdini in History Channel Miniseries

0

The History Channel is blowing up with riveting original programming! The Hatfields & McCoys, Vikings, The Men Who Built America, and The Bible have all been pretty awesome. They are now developing another miniseries based on the life of legendary magician Harry Houdini, and they've cast Adrien Brody to star in it.

As of right now the working title for the series is Houdini, and it will basically follow the magician's rise to fame. I've done a lot of research on Houdini over the years, and the guy led an incredible life. I trust The History Channel will bring us something that we'll all enjoy. This series will most likely turn out better than any of the Houdini movies that are currently in development. I like that it will tell the true life story of the man, and not overexaggerate it with fictional action set pieces.

This will be the first time Brody comes to the small screen since his 1990's TV movie Bullet Hearts. TV has changed a lot since then, and being on a TV series like this isn't downgrading. TV is getting better and better. Some of the stuff we're starting to see on television now is better than what we're seeing at the movies.

The Hatfields & McCoys relaunched Kevin Costner's career, and it could do the same thing for Brody, who hasn't really been doing anything good these days.
