KUNG FU PANDA 3 - Bryan Cranston and Rebel Wilson Join Cast

DreamWorks Animation is currently developing Kung Fu Panda 3, and they've announced that Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), and Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect) are set to join Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen, and the rest of the original voice actors in the film!

No information was released on who the new actors will be, but I can see all three of them in villain roles. The only plot details that were revealed were that the story "follows Po, the chosen one, as he continues on his journey mastering the art of Kung Fu ... and noodle slurping. Continuing on his now legendary adventures of awesomeness, Po must face two hugely epic, but very different threats:  one supernatural and the other a little closer to home."

I thought the first two Kung Fu Panda movies were equally as entertaining, so let's hope that lighting can strike for a third time. The movie is set to be released on December 23rd, 2015.

Jennifer Yuh Nelson is back to direct the movie which is being produced by Melissa Cobb, executive produced by Guillermo del Toro, and co-produced by Jeffrey Hermann and writers Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger.

PACIFIC RIM Viral Posters - Kaiju Attack Warning & Jaeger Repair

Legendary Pictures has released a couple of fun little viral posters for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim. The first one above is a Kaiju attack warning that is translated as saying, "KAIJU WARNING: Seismic activity around The Breach. Prepare for battle." The other poster comes from the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, and it basically speaks for itself, no translation needed... if you know how to speak English.

I imagine we'll be seeing a few more of these viral images leading up to the July 11th release date of the movie. I couldn't be more excited about this movie, especially after seeing the epically insane footage that Del Toro recently screened at WonderCon.

Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris ElbaRinko KikuchiCharlie Day, and Ron Perlman. The sci-fi action film is set to hit theaters July 12th, 2013.

Here's the synopsis...

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee —who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

CLERKS Inspired Animated Robot Comedy Short - SHELVED

I've got a delightful animated short film for you to check out today called Shelved, which centers on a couple of loser robots who work at a warehouse. The film was directed by James Cunningham of Auckland's Media Design School, who explains, "[the comedy is] a nod towards the early films of directors Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats) and Richard Linklater (Slacker, Dazed and Confused)." The visual effects were created by eleven Media Design School students.

The short is extremely well made, the animation is great, and I thought the characters created for the film were fantastic. I hope you enjoy the show!

FAST AND FURIOUS 6 - New International Extended TV Spot

Universal Pictures has released a new extended international TV spot for the excitingly awesome Fast and Furious 6. The Justin Lin-directed film stars Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Elsa Pataky, and Luke Evans.

The movie just looks like a ton of fun, and I think this is going to end up being the biggest money maker in the franchise. It hits theaters on May 24th, 2013. I wonder how far they plan on taking the franchise, how many more Fast and Furious films do you think we'll see?

Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian's (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin's empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

STAR WARS Vintage Photo - May I Force Luke Away From You

"...Luke we've been through this."

This vintage photo of Harrison Ford pushing Mark Hamill away as he's trying to get some action from Carrie Fisher is freakin' hilarious! It's just such an odd photo of the original Star Wars cast! I'm not sure if they're having fun, or the photographer was directing them to do something that just turned out bizarre. The look on Hamill's face is just creepily funny. I assume this photo was taken before anyone knew that Leia was Luke's sister, otherwise he wouldn't be begging so desperately hard to get in on that action.

Joseph Kosinski Says TRON 3 Delivers on the Promise of TRON: LEGACY

Tron 3 is currently in the script and concept design phase of development. Disney still has yet to give it an official greenlight, but that will eventually come. In the mean time, it's just gearing up for pre-production. Director Joseph Kosinski is currently making the press rounds for his new sci-fi film Oblivion, but everyone also wants to know about Tron 3

Empire Magazine caught up with the filmmaker recently and asked about the title. He says they have one, but won't reveal it. As of right now the working title is TR3N. He's then pressed for a little more information on the film project, and this is what he said...

Tron 3 delivers on the promise of Tron Legacy, particular the final scenes. There's a big clue there as to where we'll go with the next one. There's some characters we establish at the beginning of Tron Legacy who have a much larger role in Tron 3.

It's safe to say that one of the characters he's talking about is Cillian Murphy's Edward Dillinger Jr. When asked about the IMAX aspect of Tron 3 he said,  "I love IMAX as a format. So, yes, absolutely. It will be an IMAX film."

Tron: Legacy was such a cool movie, and I'm excited to where they plan to take the story, and how it's executed. Check out the video interview below!

GAME OF THRONES Straying Further From The Books Than I Like (Spoilers)

The first season was spot on. The second had the random switch of Arya serving Tywin Lannister as opposed to Vargo Hoat (who becomes relevant this season), and having just gotten to Sunday's second episode I have to wonder if I've made a mistake. I told myself when I started reading the series that I wouldn't have to worry about the book being better than the show or vice versa because at the time they were one in the same. While things are basically on the same path, there's a couple unforgivable in this season that are as plain as the undeformed nose on Tyrion's face.. For those of you who have not read the books and are just curious I've added a little context to why the events of season 3 are unacceptable. Oh man...I've become THAT guy, haven't I?

  • Sam did manage to get a couple of ravens out before the attack on the fist of the first men. Don't remember how relevant this is, but you can't be taking away the small victories Samwell Tarly gets. He's one of the greater characters in the novel.

  • Davos never tried to assassinate Melisandre. He was plotting it on his way to the docks and was arrested on kings command and thrown in prison before he had that chance. The show missed out on a lot of character development between the two characters in nixing that. It also shows the scale of Melisandre's powers.

  • Tyrion should be missing half his nose according to the novels. The show actually made a nod to this when Cersei commented on it when she visited him.

  • Qyburn being present at Winterfell. You may not remember him as he only had one line in the season premiere. There wasn't a reason for him to be there, and they didn't even use him for anything!

  • Jon Snow never had the pox and Lady Catelyn would've done cartwheels had that happened. In truth she is a very unlikeable character in the novels, and I wish they would stop trying to bring a sense of humanity to her. It's only going to make things harder to develop down the line.

  • The revelation that Theon Greyjoy is alive does not happen until the fifth book. This isn't really a huge deal as I think they are just covering some parts that the novel only mentioned in passing.

  • A couple of characters are missing from the band of rebels that join up with Arya and her crew. It's also worth noting that these are men who served and continue to serve the will of King Robert Baratheon, which adds yet another element to the war. PLUS THEY SANG BEAR AT THE MAIDEN FAIR AND NOT RAINS OF CASTAMERE AND I REALLY WANTED TO HEAR THAT SONG!

Not to mention the late arrival of Jojen and Meera Reed, the fact that Rickon and Osha are still with the group, and a couple other things that have made me weary on where this season is headed. Some of the calls make sense for the lack of time permitted in a standard episode...others seem done simply because they can. I know this isn't the first time the show has strayed from major events, but it's happening more frequently and beginning to turn me off to the show. Fellow readers of the series do you share my opinion? Are there any other inconsistencies that bugged you?

Two New Clips from Michael Bay's PAIN & GAIN

Here's a couple of clips from Michael Bay's version of an indie movie, Pain & Gain. The reason I say that is because I think this is the lowest budget he's ever had to work with on a movie before. It looks like a fantastic movie though, and I've also heard good things about it. One clip features a scene between Anthony Mackie and Rebel Wilson as they discuss fixing his balls. The other clip features the first initial kidnapping attempt.

Based on the unbelievable true story of three personal trainers in 1990s Miami who, in pursuit of the American Dream, get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong.

The film also stars Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, Ed Harris, Rob Corddry, Tony Shalhoub, Bar Paly, Ken Jeong, and Yolanthe Cabau. The movie hits theaters later this month on April 26th.

Custom Made STAR WARS Exploitation Film Action Figures

Sillof is known for his amazingly badass custom made Star Wars action figures. Over the years, he has brought us Samurai Warrior Star Wars, Medieval Star Wars, Retro 1940s Sci-Fi Star Wars, and more. Well, Sillof is back with more awesomeness!

Patton Oswalt reached out to the toy artist and commissioned him to create a Star Wars action figure set based on the exploitation films of Russ Meyer, but more specifically the film Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! He calls this new action figure set Faster, Empire! STRIKE STRIKE!

Here's a note from the artist about what Oswalt asked for:

He wanted me to do the re-imagining thing I do but this time rather than an era or genre he wanted me to fuse the line with the wildly fun films of exploitation film maker Russ Meyer, in particular, with the film "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!"  He gave me a few ideas  but really left most of it up to my imagination (which is the way I prefer to work).  One catch, because most of Meyers films, 99.9% to be exact,  feature busty females protagonists Patton wanted me to gender flip every character making the characters I would usually make men into woman and vice versa.  He also had a specific vision involving a mini bar and a GTO.

As you'll see this new set turned out to be pretty groovy!

Darla Vade

An Amazon of a woman with a sadistic desire to tease men with her sexuality and then violently punish them.  She is leading an all girl crew on a cross country crime spree of sex, violence, and robbery.  She is quite taken with the shapely, young Lucy and imagines the chaos that could cause with her in their ranks.

Bonita Flores

She is a deadly murderer and the real muscle behind Darla gang.  She says little, but she speaks with action, and her actions almost always leave a trail of dead men.

Ole Betty Kentworthy

Betty Kentworhy runs a dilapidated old farm on the outskirts of a small town in West Texas that hadn't yielded much more than dirt the last few seasons.  There was a drought going on and the farm was cluttered with windmills drilling down to dry wells.  Betty was disliked and dismissed by the local townsfolk for some unspoken events from the past she resides herself to a solitary existence looking over two teenagers who are not her children by birth.

Chibetta

Chibetta is the the drummer in the all girl rock band "The Milky Way Falcons".  She is actually from Mexico and speaks no English and can only communicate by relaying what she wants to her band mate Hanna.  The band is playing a dive bar in town when Lucy runs in the back door  for safety after being chased and harassed by Darla and her gang only to find the huge drummer waiting who takes her to meet the band.

Hanna "Guitar" Solo

The lead guitarist for .  She is a bit of a loner who needs no else accept the adventure of the open road, the occasional groupie, and her band mates.  The only thing she loves more than the "The Milky Way Falcons" is her old supped up grey van the band travels in.  She reluctantly agrees to help Lucy after she becomes convinced that her family may reward the band and and after Darla's girls burned up her van to stop them from getting away.

Stormy Go-Go

Stormy is the flunky and yes-girl to Darla.  What ever Darla wants Stormy does.  She is actually part of a revolving door of gorgeous henchwoman that Darla enlists and she calls them all "Stormy".

Rest / Refreshment Drink Dispenser

As Lucy and Chibetta head backstage they find the band partying amongst a small gathering of the crew and some fans.  In the center of the room is a white mini bar that is decked out with all manner of recreations substances.  Lucy over hears someone call it the Rest & Refreshment Drink Dispenser as they push it aside to make room for the terrified girl while its wheels nosily squeak and screech.

Lanna Calloway

Lanna is a foxy soul singer rock star that is one part Billy Holiday and one part Jimi Hendrix.  She is a child hood friend of Hanna's who only recently reunited with her when they formed the band, "The Milky Way Falcons".  She agrees to help Lucy, but secretly had worked out deal to help Darla to save her bandmates from the violent girl gangs retribution.  She changes her mind at the last second steals the GTO during a bar fight that broke out between Lucy and Leo and Darla's gang to help her band and the kids escape.  After a brief chase the group makes it to safety back at the farm.

Leo

Leo has the intellect God gave a bag of marbles and the muscles of a body builder.   Maybe it was all that work in the hot sun that baked his brains and gave him that impressive physique.   All of his faults aside he was dutifully loyal to Betty and fiercely protective of his sister Lucy.

Lucy

Lucy longs to break free of the boring confines of the farm.  She dream of adventure, life on the open road, and boys.  Forced to work on the farm by Betty who watches over the girl in hopes to shelter from some of the mistakes she made in her youth.

Golden Rod

One day glistening in the hot noon sun a golden GTO came tearing into town.  The old car was a little beat up but heavily modified to outrun anything the cops could throw at them.   As the car roared though main street its occupants noticed a curvaceous farm girl, Lucy, with her brother in town at the feed store buying supplies.  The car followed the kids home.

MAN OF STEEL - EW Magazine Cover Features Superman

Entertainment Weekly has released their new Man of Steel magazine cover featuring a new image of Henry Cavill as Superman. A similar image previously leaked out, but this gives us another solid look the character. When talking to the magazine about the film Zack Snyder revealed that there’s no Kryptonite in the movie, explaining that the only fresh option was not to use it, which I thought was really interesting.

There's a few other quotes from the actors in the film, such as Cavill who says, "Although he is not susceptible to the frailties of mankind, he is definitely susceptible to the emotional frailties." Amy Adams then goes on to discuss her character Lois Lane saying, "I think she’s very transient. She’s ready to pick up and go at a moment’s notice. I think that definitely could be part of what she sees in Superman — not really laying down roots, not developing trust." Producer Chuck Roven added,

You want to give the audience great spectacle. You want them to go to the movie, be eating their popcorn and be like, ‘Wow!’ But it’s just not good enough to give them the ‘Wow.’ You want them to be emotionally engaged. Because if you just have the ‘wow,’ ultimately you get bludgeoned by that and you stop caring.

It sounds like they actually got Superman right this time, and I have high hopes that it will be an incredibly mind-blowing experience.

The movie is scheduled to be released in 3D, 2D and IMAX on June 14th!

Eric Bana and Olivia Munn Join Exorcism Film BEWARE THE NIGHT

Eric Bana, Olivia Munn, and Edgar Ramirez have joined a new supernatural exorcist thriller set up over at Screen Gems called Beware the Night. Mega producer Jerry Bruckheimer is set to produce and Sinister director Scott Derrickson will helm the project from a script he wrote with Paul Boardman

According to Deadline, "Bana plays an Irish Catholic cop working a case when he meets a renegade priest. Despite the cop’s beliefs, he’s convinced by the priest that there is a demonic element and together they work to solve the case and combat the paranormal forces working against them. Ramirez plays the priest. Munn plays the cop’s wife, who also has a tie to the case."

The studio is hoping they can turn this thing into a franchise. Bruckheimer had this to say in a statement,

Beware The Night is a project we’ve been developing for many years, confident that a story which combines the paranormal with a gritty New York City police story is both original and strongly appealing to audiences. We’re excited to work with Culpepper and his team at Screen Gems, and director Scott Derrickson, who has emerged as a uniquely talented filmmaker with the ability to both entertain and terrify audiences in equal measure. We’re also thrilled to have Eric Bana, Edgar Ramirez, and Olivia Munn, three really fine actors whose strongly defined roles in Beware The Night will allow them to give full range to their skills.

As a fan of horror and the supernatural, I'm looking forward to seeing how this film develops.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Cinemosaic Poster

Paramount Pictures has released a bold new motion style poster for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness. I don't normally like motion posters, but this one is actually kind of cool. It focuses on the lead characters in the film that includes Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), Uhura (Zoe Saldana) and John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch) and uses a "Cinemosaic" style design to show them off.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

The movie hits theaters on May 17th, 2013! That's going to be a great day!

Check out this hilarious retro style parody commercial showing off the most realistic G.I. Joe action figures you'll ever see! What's funny about this fake commercial, is when I was watching G.I. Joe: Retaliation, I remember playing with my G.I. Joe toys exactly the same way that some of the scenes played out in the movie. Like many of us, Movieclips must have thought of the same thing because the movie inspired them to create this awesome video of kids playing with these ultra realistic action figures with kung fu grips and life like ammunition! Enjoy!

New Trailer for the Magician Heist Film NOW YOU SEE ME

I've really been looking forward to seeing the magician heist movie Now You See Me. It looks like a thoroughly enjoyable film. Summit Entertainment has released a second trailer for the movie that features more new footage and fills us in on a few more fun story details. It actually makes the movie look better than I originally thought!

Now You See Me pits an elite FBI squad in a game of cat and mouse against "The Four Horsemen," a super-team of the world's greatest illusionists. "The Four Horsemen" pull off a series of daring heists against corrupt business leaders during their performances, showering the stolen profits on their audiences while staying one step ahead of the law.

The movie was directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk), and has an amazing cast of actors that include Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Melanie Laurent, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Common, Michael Kelly, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman.

The movie is set to appear in theaters on May 31st! Enjoy the new trailer!

Yvonne Strahovski Returning for DEXTER Season 8!

One of my favorite parts of the seventh season of Dexter was Yvonne Strahovski's character Hannah McKay. I was kind of sad when it looked like she wouldn't be back. I'm happy to report though that she is actually set to reprise her role in a multi-episode arc in what looks to be the final season of the incredibly entertaining serial killer series!

In the last season, Dexter helped in sending her to prison so she wouldn't be able to hurt his sister Deb. Of course, she ended up escaping, so I imagine she will be coming back for the man who broke her heart. Dexter did tell her, "We both knew it would come to this, one of us dead or behind bars." Now it looks like things could end up leading to one of them actually being dead.

Strahovski was fantastic on Dexter last season, and I couldn't be more excited to see that she's coming back!

Some of the movies represented in the show include Shawshank Redemption, Alien, Game of Thrones, Band of Brothers, Where the Wild Things Are, Tron, Poltergeist, Time Bandits, and more. I've included a few pieces below. As you'll see, one image features the regular illustration, the other shows what it looks like when it's glowing. For example, the images directly above and below are the same illustration. Check them out!

Noah Emmerich (Super 8, The Americans) is the latest actor to join the cast of director Gavin O’Connor's western Jane Got A Gun. He is set to play Natalie Portman's husband in the film which also stars Bradley Cooper and Joel Edgarton. Regardless of the issues that this movie has had recently, it looks like things are back on track. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Cooper plays a character named Bishop, a man whose gang has shot up the estranged outlaw husband (Emmerich) of a woman (Portman) who knows they are coming to destroy her farm and kill her husband, because he has come home to heal. She ends up turning to her former lover played by Edgerton for help.

James Wan to Direct FAST AND FURIOUS 7!

$

Last week it was reported that Justin Lin would not be coming back to direct the seventh installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, which is completely understandable. These films are the only movies he's been making, so I can see him getting a little burnt out on them.

Universal Pictures has been on the hunt for a new director, and it looks like they want Insidious and Saw director Justin Lin to take Wan's place in the directors chair, which is a pretty damn good replacement! Wan is an awesomely talented director, and I think it would be fun to see him take on this franchise, which is completely different from anything he's ever really done before. It's definitely a change of pace, which will be good for him as a filmmaker to try something new.

I hope Wan ends up directing Fast and Furious 7 because I think he would end up doing some really awesome and different stuff with it. He'd be able to bring a fresh new take to the franchise. Even though I haven't even seen Fast and Furious 6 yet, I'm already excited for part 7 because of who they are planning on using for the villain. I just don't see how it can't be epic, and with Wan on board we know it's going to be good. Lin even gave Wan his blessing saying,

I’m extremely proud to be part of the Fast franchise, it is an experience I will always treasure. It’s time for me to move on to other things and I’m thrilled that Universal and Neal have selected James Wan to lead the franchise into its new chapter

Even though Wan is only in negotiations at the moment, it seems to Lin like it's pretty much a done deal. What do you think of Wan taking over the Fast and Furious franchise?
