MARIO WARFARE - Awesome Fan-Made Parody Web Series!

Here's the first two episodes of an awesome new web series called Mario Warfare, which is based on the classic Nintendo Mario Brothers video game franchise. It was created by YouTubers beatdownboogie, and it's very entertaining, and a hell of a lot more badass than the original movie was!

Bowser's airships rain destruction on the Mushroom Kingdom.  The King is missing, presumed dead.  The Princess is on the run.  A couple plumbers answer the call of duty and sign up to fight.  Now Mario, Luigi (and a team of old school video game characters) are thrown into the gritty new world of first person shooters like COD and Battlefield.

Imagine "Super Mario Brothers meets Blackhawk Down." With a healthy dose of humor.  That's our new web series, Mario Warfare!  It's a loving parody of classic video games and epic action-films.

There's a Kickstarter Campagin that's been created for this series to help make more episodes, and it's doing pretty well! It looks like we'll get to see more of these actually get made! I think you're going to enjoy this...

Cool Concept Art Upcoming Pixar Films!

Here's a great set of concept art that Pixar has released teasing several of their upcoming CG animated films! Pixar always manages to pump out great films, and I'm looking forward to seeing all of the films represented here.

This first image above give us our first look at The Good Dinosaur, which is being directed by Bob Peterson, and here's the description.

What if the cataclysmic asteroid that forever changed life on Earth actually missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct?

The film is set to be released on May 30th, 2014.

This next piece is from Pete Docter's Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside the Mind. The official description is as follows...

From director Pete Docter ("Up," "Monsters, Inc.") and producer Jonas Rivera ("Up"), the inventive new film will take you to a place that everyone knows, but no one has ever seen: the world inside the human mind.

The movie comes out on June 19th, 2015.

Then there's the untitled Pixar movie about Dia de los Muertos or The Day of the Dead. The Lee Unkrich directed film has been described as follows,

From director Lee Unkrich and producer Darla K. Anderson, the filmmaking team behind the Academy Award®-winning "Toy Story 3," comes a wholly original Pixar Animation Studios film that delves into the vibrant holiday of Día de los Muertos.

This movie is set to be released sometime in 2016.

The final piece of artwork comes from Pixers next film, Monsters University, which is a prequel to Monsters Inc., and it's art that we've already seen before. Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Dave Foley, Julia Sweeney, Joel Murray and Peter Sohn, are all voicing characters in the film which is set to hit theaters on June 21, 2013.

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. “Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

Epic Superhero Art from Pixar Artist Everett Downing

Pixar artist Everett Downing (Wall-E, Up and Ratatouille) decided 3 years ago that he was going to attempt to draw one superhero a day for a full year. The project called 365 Supers features heroes with some interesting names, such as "The Man Handler", "Dober-Man", "Epidermis", "Blacksmith", and more.

The project was initially started to break through a creativity block he was facing. While he did not complete his resolution, the art he did create is pretty darn cool. Check it out and share your thoughts.

A hilarious photo circulating the web features the heroes of The Avengers features the awkward years of some of our favorite actors...some more than others. The crown piece definitely has to be the mullet Jeremy Renner is rocking in the bottom right, although the sweater hunch combo worn by Mark Ruffalo is also a nice touch. Below you will find a school picture of one Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L Jackson. If you had to give these guys a "most likely" what would it be?

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Director James Gunn talks to NASA Scientists

Slither and Super director James Gunn is currently prepping for his epic Marvel feature film Guardians of the Galaxy. Gunn recently talked with some NASA scientists recently from the Jet Propulsion Laboratories to talk about the possibilities of space travel and alien life as research for his big sci-fi adventure film. Here's what he had to say on his Facebook page,

Yesterday I spent a few hours with one of NASA's representatives from Jet Propulsion Laboratories, part of a group of scientists who consult [with] the movie industry (for free) to help bring a greater understanding of science to films. It was an utterly fascinating few hours with one of the most intelligent and knowledgeable guys I've ever met... [W]e made our way through a ton of information on the possibilities of space travel, alien life, etc...

He didn't really reveal much about the film but he did talk about global warming, and what the scientists had to say about it. Head on over to his Facebook page to read more about that if that interests you.

I'm excited about Guardians of the Galaxy, especially with Gunn at the helm! It would be awesome if it implemented some of the actual scientific theories into the story that they learned at JPL.

New WALKING DEAD Season 3 Promo Trailer

AMC has aired a great new promo trailer for the second half of The Walking Dead season 3. It may be a low res video, but there's a few bits of awesomely intense new footage that's featured in the spot.

The series comes back on February 10th, 2013, and I can't wait to see where the story goes! Do you think they'll kill off any other major characters before the season ends? It was recently announced that there would be a fourth season, but that showrunner Glen Mazzara will no longer be a part of it. Hopefully the series continues to get better, because it's going to be hard to top season 3!

New JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie Character Details Emerge

Let's kick off the new year with some new Justice League movie details that have hit the internet! The information provided here comes from an inside source of Cosmic Book News. Please consider this a rumor for now, since I don't know much about this site, but a lot of the info does seems consistent with information that I've previously heard. The site also offers a history of this source being right with previously released information.

The info provided gives us a breakdown of the characters that will be involved with the film, and reveals that the Superman used in the movie is basically the same character from Man of Steel, and that Zack Snyder is helping write the character. It's also revealed that Alfred Pennyworth and Lois Lane will have small roles in the story.

Check out the info and let us know what you think!

• Superman is essentially the same character from Man of Steel, and Zack Snyder is consulting regarding the writing of the character.

• Batman: The strategist of the group. Batman doesn't really want to be involved with these super powered beings he considers too powerful. Easily the most complex written.

• Wonder Woman: She has only been in man's world a few short months. The Wonder Woman script MichaelGoldenberg is developing will be set before the Justice League movie.

• Green Lantern: Will be Ryan Reynold's character from the Green Lantern movie, but will be freshly written with a more serious tone.

• Flash: The most popular hero in civilian eyes who loves media attention, but when called upon is very serious.

• Martian Manhunter: Alien who has lived on Earth in secret for over a hundred years who has knowledge of Darkseid and his reign.

• Aquaman: Will be the King of Atlantis who has a key role in the film.

• There will also be a heavy military presence in the film which in future rewrites could include characters featured in Man of Steel or even Amanda Waller (Angela Bassett) of which neither are included in the first draft.

• Alfred Pennyworth is in the film in a minor appearance.

• Lois Lane is also in the film in a cameo.

• Darkseid's Elite will be featured who go up against the Justice League early on in the film.

We previously learned that the story for Justice League in based on Gerry Conway’s 1980 Justice League Of America 183-185 is the story that we'll see brought to life on the big screen. Basically the three issue arc features the superhero team coming together to stop Darkseid from destroying Earth by blasting it with a death ray that’ll move Apokolips into the Earth’s place.

Will Beale is currently writing the script for the film which will be released in 2015. Hopefully the WB hires a solid director to bring it to life.

Check out this incredibly fun and entertaining CG animated action short called Catzilla. It features a giant monster cat destroying a city, and it eventually ends up battling another cat creature. It was hard not to laugh at the ridiculousness of this short, but it was done incredibly well, and it turned out awesome!

Catzilla was directed by Bartłomiej Kik and Jakub Jabłoński. Here's a note from the Vimeo page,

Catzilla is our latest project to date. It's a realtime PC benchmark that will get all the juices from your PC. Finally we had some time to make a proper demo. It was made with a nice collaboration with Platige Image. We did the code, they did the art. The music was made exclusively by Bent 'subsquare' Stamnes. Thanks for watching!

Enjoy the show!

I think Monsters University is going to end up being just as entertaining as Monsters Inc. if not more so. These are such great characters, and I'm excited to see the origin story of how all these monsters met in college and got to know each other.

Disney has released an incredibly fun new promo video featuring the campus in which the monsters study the craft of scaring children.

Get a glimpse at the wide variety of creatures and schools that make Monsters University the premiere destination for academic excellence. Now is the perfect time to find out if MU is right for you!

I guess if I were a monster this would be the place I'd want to go to college. It looks like a great campus, and the Ivy League of monster colleges.

Cool Lizard Concept Art for Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN 2 and More

Concept artist Constantine Sekeris has released a collection of incredibly cool pieces of concept art for several movies that he's worked on over the years. Some of the art gives us a look at what Sam Raimi's Lizard would have looked like in Spider-Man 2, and also includes a Reaper from Blade II, a werewolf from Cabin in the Woods, a couple of Hellboy creatures and more.

At one point in the production process of Spider-Man 2, Raimi wanted the Lizard as one of the villains alongside Doc Ock and Green Goblin. That idea was obviously scrapped, which is good because another villain might have ruined the perfectly good film that it was. The designs done for the character are pretty cool though!

Check out the collection of concept art below and let us know what you think of the designs!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Looking to Join GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

$

Joseph Gordon-Levitt had a hell of a great year in 2012. He was in Looper, The Dark Knight Rises, Premium Rush and Lincoln. The guy has a pretty awesome career ahead of him, and he's now in the running to play the lead role of Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy!

It was previously revealed that Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas), Lee Pace (Lincoln and The Hobbit), Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables), Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), James Marsden (X-Men) and Sullivan Stapleton (Animal Kingdom) were all up for the same role. There's no word on if anyone has been offered the role yet, but Gordon-Levitt is definitely in the mix.

As a fan of Gordon-Levitt I think it would be great if he got the part! I certainly wouldn't complain! But, I also wouldn't complain if the part went to Marsden, Hedlund or Pace either.

Guardians of the Galaxy follows a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants. Star-Lord is the pilot and leader of the space superhero team in the film.

What do you think about the possibility of Gordon-Levitt landing the part?

Open Road Films has picked up the distribution rights of Five Star Feature Films' Steve Jobs biopic, jOBS. The movie is set to premiere at The Sundance Film Festival later this month, but Open Road has announced that it will be released in theaters in April of 2013.

The movie was directed by Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote) and stars Ashton Kutcher as Jobs. He definitley looks the part, and it will be interesting to see if he can act his way through it. Mark Hulme of Five Star Feature Films had this to say in a statement,

We set out to find the perfect partners to present jOBS to audiences worldwide, and we feel we have found one with Open Road. They were as impressed as we were with Ashton Kutcher's inspiring and unforgettable performance as Steve Jobs and are excited to distribute the picture in the U.S.

The filmmakers were granted unprecedented access during shooting to the historic garage in Palo Alto, that served as the birthplace to Apple Inc. The film also stars Josh Gad as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak; Ahna O’Reilly as Jobs’ girlfriend Chris-Ann BrennanLukas Haas as Apple employee DanielKottke; Dermot Mulroney as former Apple CEO Mike Markkula; and Matthew Modine as former Apple CEO John Sculley. Here's the synopsis...

The film covers Jobs from his early years as an impressionable youth and wayward hippie, through his initial successes and infamous ousting, to his storybook return and ultimate triumphs as a man who set out to change the world and did just that.

jOBS chronicles the 30 most defining years of Steve Jobs’ life, as seen through his, colleagues’, and friends’ eyes. Dark, honest, and uncompromising, jOBS plunges into the depths of his character, creating an intense dialogue-driven story that is as much a sweeping epic as it is an immensely personal portrait of Steve Jobs’ life.

A rousing narrative of this business and tech icon, jOBS pulls no punches and does not speculate, telling only the candid and captivating account of the life of Steven Paul Jobs.

We're heading up to Sundance this year, and we'll make sure to let you know if this one will be worth watching or not.

THE LAST EXORCISM PART II Gets Another Twisted Poster

I guess the more twisted and distorted the body is the scarier it's supposed to be. CBS Films has released this poster for The Last Exorcism Part II, and if the sequel is anything like the poster, then it looks like we're going to get the same horror film all over again. I actually thought the first film was ok, hopefully the sequel gets a little bit more inventive in its storytelling.

The movie was produced by Eli Roth, and directed by Ed Gass-Donnelly from a screenplay he wrote with Damien Chazelle. Here's the synopsis...

Teenage Nell Sweetzer (Ashley Bell) is found dirty and terrified in the woods having just escaped a demon ritual in which a cult helped her give birth to a demon baby.  Confused and scared, Nell is examined by doctors but she doesn’t remember much about the previous few months except that as a result of everything, her family is now dead.  She is moved into Davreaux – a girls’ halfway house in New Orleans, where she will try to put her life back together with the help of the therapist, Frank Merle.  She even begins to date a boy named Chris and starts a job at a local hotel.  But something doesn’t feel right to Nell.  She is being sought after by the demon who possessed her in the first LAST EXORCISM.  It wants Nell, but in a different way than before…

Is A Middle Earth Theme Park Being Planned?!

    $
    0
    0

I've always wanted to see a Middle Earth theme park become a reality, and now there's a rumor out there that suggests it could actually happen at Universal Studios!

According to a user on Orlando United’s theme park forum, "Universal asked Warner Bros. to approach the Tolkien family since the Tolkien's trust WB with the success of the LOTR series. WB described how Universal was willing to work with JK Rowling and how the 2 of them (WB and JK) held Universal's feet to the fire to uphold Rowling's vision of the IP. And I believe that the Tolkien's may have actually talked to JK Rowling. This was before Universal said a word to the Tolkien's. So after WB stoked the fire, Universal entered the picture with an impressive plan. As of now there is a lot of hammering out to go, but Universal has gotten a lot farther than Disney ever did."

I would love it if this actually happened! There's no doubt that it would make an incredible theme park! It's also perfect for fans like me that may never make it out to New Zealand to visit the real Middle Earth. This is all just a rumor for now, and nothing has been confirmed by Universal or Warner Bros. There's also no information on where the theme park would be built.

The one part about this whole thing that seems a bit off is where the source says that the Tolkien family trusts Warner Bros. with the success of the LOTR series, because I was under the impression that the Tolkien's didn't like the movies, and that there is some bitterness, especially after all of the lawsuits. J.R.R. Tolkien's son Christopher said this in a previous interview,

They gutted the book, making an action movie for 15-25 year olds. And it seems that The Hobbit will be of the same ilk. Tolkien became…devoured by his popularity and absorbed by the absurdity of the time. The gap widened between the beauty, the seriousness of the work, and what it has become is beyond me. This level of marketing reduces to nothing the aesthetic and philosophical significance of this work.

He doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would want to see his father's work turned into a theme park, but ya never know, money has a way of talking people into things. It's also hard to believe that a major studio would need to go through Warner Bros. to make this happen. These kinds of deals are all made through lawyers anyway.

What do you think of the possibility of a Middle Earth theme park? Mount Doom would make for a hell of a roller coaster ride!
