New JACK THE GIANT SLAYER Stills

$

New stills from Bryan Singer's Jack The Giant Slayer have arrived thanks to CBM. The quality of the pics is great, but the stills themselves are a bit boring and don't show any action at all -- kind of odd since they've already realeased a couple of action filled trailers. They do give us some better looks at the cast which includes Nicholas Hoult, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Eleanor Tomlinson, and Ewan McGregor. I guess we'll have to wait for the onslaught of TV spots that we'll see as we get closer to the film's March 1st, 2013 release date to see more action.

Synopsis:

"Jack the Giant Slayer" tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend--and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

As you all know we are entering award season and many of us will be rooting for our favorite movies of the year. The Hobbit and Skyfall are among my favorites of the year, and the studios have released a few "For Your Consideration" poster ads for them. Each one is looking to get a Best Picture and Best Director nominations. I'd love to see both of these movies get nominated for these, but you never know what's going to happen. What movies do you think will end up getting nominated?

Poster for Dwayne Johnson's SNITCH

Summit Entertainment has released a poster their new action thriller Snitch. It features Dwayne Johnson striking a very familiar "I'm gonna kick your ass if you cross me" pose. The movie looks like your typical Johnson action thriller, but that doesn't mean it still wont be entertaining. The film also has a great supporting cast that includes Susan Sarandon, Jon Bernthal, Benjamin Bratt and Barry Pepper

Inspired by true events featured on PBS’s Frontline, Johnson plays "a father whose teenage son is wrongly accused of a drug distribution crime and is looking at a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years. Desperate and determined to rescue his son at all costs, he makes a deal with the U.S. Attorney to work as an undercover informant and infiltrate a drug cartel on a dangerous mission- risking everything, including his family and his own life."

The movie is set to be released on February 22nd, 2013. To watch the trailer for the movie again click here.

STAR TREK 2 Villain is a Mix of The Joker, Jack Torrance and Hannibal Lecter

There's been a lot of talk surrounding the villain in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness, John Harrison. Benedict Cumberbatch has talked a lot about this character recently, but in one of his latest interviews he describes the character as being a mix of Hannibal Lecter, Jack in The Shining, and the Joker in Batman.

When J.J. described the role to me… he described someone who was, in movie terms, a mixture of Hannibal Lecter, Jack in 'The Shining,' and the Joker in 'Batman,'... He's someone who has enormous physical strength. He's someone who is incredibly dangerous, both as a physical entity and through the use of various technologies and weapons and who performs acts of what I would describe as terrorism. He's also a psychological master. He manipulates the minds of those around him to do his bidding in a very, very subtle way.

Abrams adds a little bit more info on the villain saying,

His name is John Harrison and he is sort of an... average guy who works in an organization called Starfleet, and he turns against the group because he has got this backstory and this kind of amazing secret agenda. After two very violent attacks, one in London and one in the US, our characters have to go after this guy and apprehend him. And it is a far more complicated and difficult thing then they ever anticipated. 'Into Darkness' is very much about how intense it gets and really what they are up against.

Harrison sounds like he's going to be an awesome villain, and I'm excited to see just how menacing he will be. The film hits theaters May 17th, 2013!

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - 15 New Photos Released!

A batch of new photos from J.J. Abram's Star Trek: Into Darkness have been released and scanned from Empire Magazine. The photos feature Chris Pine, Alice Eve, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Zachary QuintoZoe Saldana and Benedict Cumberbatch as the badass looking villain of insanity. There's also a couple of Star Trek covers as well!

In the wake of a shocking act of terror from within their own organization, the crew of The Enterprise is called back home to Earth. In defiance of regulations and with a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads his crew on a manhunt to capture an unstoppable force of destruction and bring those responsible to justice.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Star Trek Into Darkness hits theaters on May 17th, 2013. The movie also stars John Cho, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and Peter Weller. I'm so excited to see the story for this sequel unfold on the big screen!

In addition, here's a little more detailed story description from the magazine...

With Earth under terrorist attack from Benedict Cumberbatch’s ex-Starfleet employee John Harrison, Kirk is this time forced into a rash decision that breaks a critical Starfleet command, puts his crew in danger & costs him his captain’s chair. Now out of uniform and dressed down in space civvies of black leather jackets and boots, our three heroes have separated from the Enterprise and headed off on a mission to try and rectify his mistake.

First Badass Look at Sharlto Copley in ELYSIUM

Here's your first look at District 9 star Sharlto Copley in Neill Blomkamp's new amazing looking sci-fi film Elysium. Copley plays the villain in the story named Kruger, and he sure looks like an insane badass! There's been very little of this movie released online, but they showed a some great unfinished footage of it at Comic-Con. Hopefully the release a trailer for the film sometime in the near future! In a previous interview Copley compared his character to The Joker, but in a recent interview with Empire, he says it was a mistaken reference and explains his character a little more...

The Joker was a mistaken reference. I was really just saying that that was the last time I saw a villain that inspired me: somebody that set the bar. There’s no connection or likeness to The Joker in terms of the character. What I did with him — which I try to do with all my original characters — was draw from real life. I combined references from a very infamous South African military battalion called 32 Battalion, that fought in the Border Wars in South Africa, and a stereotype of character that you get in the south of Johannesburg, where the guys are a little bit more comfortable with violence!

The movie also stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Wagner Moura, Alice Braga, Diego Luna and here's the story description.

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

The sci-fi thriller is set to be released in theaters on August 9th, 2013!

FINAL FANTASY XIII: Lightning Returns is a Journey Through our Final Days

Whether you like the idea or not, Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns acts as the final chapter in the Chrystallis Saga of games. Lightning Returns focuses on the final 13 days of our existence, and while not much is known about the actual plot-line, how you influence the story has been somewhat revealed. As you accomplish certain things in the game, you are able to "add" more time to the countdown, which is always ticking down to 0 in the background. The game will end after the final 13 days pass, and while certainly a bit different from many RPG's, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Now, I thought Final Fantasy XIII-2 made a lot of strides toward a more traditional role playing experience, much to my delight. So far from what I've seen of LR, they seem to be going away from that again, but I'll withhold judgement until I get some hands on time with the game. I'm always up for experimentation, but I think most of us can agree that the original XIII was a bit too experimental for its own good. That said, LR looks interesting, and the stellar combat from the previous entries seems to be making a return, but not quite sure how fun it will be without multiple party members. Again though, withholding judgement. Check out the trailer and let us know what you think!

STAR WARS Droid Leg Lamp Inspired by A CHRISTMAS STORY

"The soft glow of droid sex gleaming in the window." – Max Petrosky

Check out this incredibly awesome Star Wars R2-D2 and C-3PO droid leg lamp inspired by the famous fra-gi-le leg lamp from A Christmas Story. The lamp was created by Gordon Tarpley who had this to say about it...

Based on a joke my wife (total genius) made about 9 months ago, I made a Star Wars Christmas Story leg lamp crossover from parts I had around the house. Not permanent, but fun. The parts will be returned to their proper builds in a few days.

I HAVE been planning on making a permanent version ever since she first mentioned it months ago. After this picture was posted on facebook, there have been TONS of responses asking where I got it, which has given me the motivation to build the actual lamp for next December (2013).

"It's a major reward!"

New Poster for M. Night Shyamalan's AFTER EARTH

It seems like a lot of people are willing to give director M. Night Shyamalan another chance with this latest film After Earth, a sci-fi movie starring Will and Jaden Smith. It looks visually cool, but what I'm worried about is the story, the twist that he's going to add to the story, and the bad direction of his actors.

A new poster has been released for the film and it's similar to a few other posters we've seen recently like Star Trek Into Darkness and Oblivion. Here's the synopsis

One thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.

The movie is set to be released on June 7th, 2013. Check out the trailer below again for a little reminder.

A CHRISTMAS STORY Deleted Scene with Ralphie and Flash Gordon

A Christmas Story is my favorite Christmas movie of all time, and all of these years I've been watching it, I had no idea that there was a deleted scene that featured Ralphie teaming up with Flash Gordon. Had I ever bothered to watch the end credits I would have saw that their were two actors credited for playing Flash Gordon and Ming the Merciless!

The scene was to feature Ralphie reading a Flash Gordon comic when he starts to have a day dream about the Red Ryder BB gun. He's on the planet Mongo where he and Flash battle Ming the Merciless. The photo above gives us our only look at what that scene would have looked like, but I haven't been able to find any film footage of it online. I'd really love to see this scene play out. You can read the scene in its entirety below though!

PHANTOM Trailer - Submarine War Film with Duchovny and Harris

Here's the first trailer for a great looking Submarine war film called Phantom, which stars Ed Harris and David Duchovny. I enjoy these kinds of films, and this one has a solid cast of actors. Duchovny doesn't get enough good movie roles, so hopefully this turns out to be a good movie for him. I'm definitely interested in checking it out!

Ed Harris plays the captain of a Cold War Soviet missile submarine who has secretly been suffering from seizures that alter his perception of reality. Forced to leave his wife and daughter, he is rushed into a classified mission, where he is haunted by his past and challenged by a rogue KGB group (led by David Duchovny) bent on seizing control of the ship's nuclear missile. With the fate of humanity in his hands, Harris discovers he has been chosen for this mission in the belief he would fail. Phantom is a suspense submarine thriller about extraordinary men facing impossible choices.

The movie also stars William Fitchtner, Sean Patrick Flanery, Johnathon Schaech, Lance Henriksen, Jason Beghe, Jason Gray-Stanford, and Julian Adams. It is set to be released on March 1st, 2013. Check out the trailer, and let us know if it looks like a movie you'd want to see!

GRAND THEFT AUTO V - 5 New Screenshots!

Rockstar Games has released five new screens from their highly anticipated video game Grand Theft Auto V! This is going to be the biggest Grand Theft Auto game to date, and it looks like it's going to offer hours upon hours of awesome entertainment!

GTA V is set in the fictional city Los Santos in the state of San Andreas and its surrounding areas. It based on modern-day Los Angeles and Southern California. The game includes three customizable playable characters -- Michael, Trevor, and Franklin, and you will be able to switch between characters “constantly” throughout the game. Each one of them has their own social circles. What's cool about this is that it allows players to see missions from different perspectives.

It will be released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in spring 2013. I've also included the most recent trailer for the game just for the hell of it!

Tom Hiddleston Wanted to Direct THOR: THE DARK WORLD

$

In a recent interview with Thor and Avengers co-star Tom Hiddleston, he reveals that he approached Marvel president Kevin Fegie, and asked him about the possibility of letting him direct Thor: The Dark World. When Empire Magazine asked the actor if he'd be interested in directing a Thor film this was his response,

Yes, I do. I did ask, half-jokingly, Kevin Feige about directing Thor 2 and he said, 'Do you have something to show me?' I said no. He said, 'If you made something and showed me, I might consider it.' But it's better for the world that he said no. It would be such a responsibility, but I think I'd enjoy it.

It's not uncommon for actors to make a transition into directing, and I think it would have been cool to see Hiddleston take on Thor. Maybe some where down the road he'll give a solid pitch and be able to direct one, it's awesome that Feige is actually open to the idea. But as of right now, I think Alan Taylor is the right director for The Dark World, and I love what I've seen from the set photos so far.

Would you like to see Hiddleston eventually direct a Thor movie? Or any other Marvel film for that matter?
