Fan-Made Trailer for STAR WARS VS. LORD OF THE RINGS

Editor Alexander Luthor has taken footage from Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies and edited its heroes facing off against the villains of the Star Wars franchise. I expected the result to be a little shoddy, but this is surprisingly effective. Sure, it doesn't make any real sense why these characters would be fighting each other or existing in the same era, but once you put those concerns away and just enjoy the editing, this is pretty fun.

Explanation of How Universal's New Monster Cinematic Universe is Different From the MCU

$
0
0

As you know, Universal Pictures is planning a whole new cinematic universe based on their classic monster movie franchise. This whole thing all starts with Tom Cruise's The Mummy and it will be followed by Johnny Depp's The Invisible Man, The Wolf Man, The Creature From the Black Lagoon, Javier Bardem's Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Van Helsing, and more.

I figured that the whole plan was to interconnect these films much in the same way that Marvel is connecting all of their characters in their superhero films, but that's not the case. Universal has other plans for their monster universe and during an interview with Collider, producer Chris Morgan talks about this new slate of films and explains why he relates to these monster characters more than superheroes, saying:

"I think why people will love these monster films is the they are an homage to the originals, which means you’re gonna get complex characters. And the thing that I think is interesting about monsters is that they are always exaggerations of human attributes or human fears. For example, Frankenstein was a result of the kind of industrial and scientific revolution—are we playing God? Should we be playing God? And with the Wolfman there’s that worry of what happens if I lose control? What happens if I hurt the things around me that I love? There’s very human questions and worries and fears and darkness and cravings.

"We live in a world of superhero movies now—and by the way, I love them and I see them all and I have a great time, but I can’t identify with them as closely as I want to because I know I’ll never be perfect like that. Whereas the monster movies are saying that everybody has darkness in them, everyone has secrets and things they are ashamed of and don’t want to say or something that feels monstrous and dangerous about them. We’re just kind of embracing that and saying, ‘That’s ok.’ The films are just gonna be interesting, emotional, action-y, largely global sorts of films. I think The Mummy trailer sets up, in a really good way, kind of the tone of these films."

Morgan went on to say that they aren't going to try and force anything with these films. All of these monster movies are being developed more as standalone movies that will have bits of interconnected threads but not to the extent that Marvel has been doing.

“We kind of designed them all to be kind of standalone sorts of franchises that have kind of similar things between them. And as the scripts came in, then we started putting them in a, ‘Well this would be a good order. We reveal this here’ so now it really comes down to, again, it’s a studio decision on which film is coming out next. Just with all the films we’re working on, Bride of FrankensteinVan HelsingCreature from the Black LagoonWolfmanInvisible Man, and on and on and on, it’s a real embarrassment of riches in terms of awesome, fun characters.”

I can see the films starting out as standalone movies like Iron Man and Captain America when Marvel first started their film franchise. Who knows, though, maybe sometime down the road if this monster movies prove to be successful we'll start seeing some of these monsters together in the same movie just like Universal used to do back in the day like with Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man.

As a fan of the original Universal monster movies, these upcoming films have a lot to live up to. The Mummy hits theaters June 9, 2017.

Yesterday, Marvel unleashed the first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok and the fans went wild! It's the Thor movie fans have been waiting for and it doesn't hurt that this is the closest adaptation of Planet Hulk that we'll get! I loved everything about this trailer that was released and like many of you, I've watched it over and over again. I even took a bunch of screenshots while going through it frame-by-frame because that's what I do! Now we have a great video from Mr. Sunday Movies that breaks down the trailer and points out several Easter eggs and other things we may have missed while watching it the first few hundred times. It points out references involving Gladiator Hulk, Planet Hulk, Hela, The Infinity Stones, Loki, Sif, and more. Check it out!

I Hope Guillermo Del Toro's Lucasfilm Talks Lead to Making His Jabba The Hut GODFATHER-Inspired STAR WARS Saga

Ever since Lucasfilm announced that they would be producing at least two Star Wars films a year fans have come with all kinds of lists of films they want to see and directors they'd like to see take them on. At one point, Guillermo del Toro was said to be on a list of directors that Lucasfilm wanted to bring on board to direct something in the franchise and why wouldn't they!? They guy is a great filmmaker that tells incredibly fun stories!

We'll in a recent interview with Collider, the filmmaker confirmed that he has talked to Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy and John Knoll about some Star Wars movie ideas. When asked if he would ever consider making a Star Wars movie the filmmaker started out with this caution of talking about such things:

“In 2006, Mike Fleming at Deadline wrote an article that said ‘Guillermo del Toro is busy until 2012’ and he published 20 things I was maybe doing. Since then I haven’t been able to live down that. Every time I say ‘good morning’ somebody says ‘Guillermo is doing Good Morning!’, so I will not comment on this… I look like a kook. Neil Gaiman once said, ‘I would like to write Doctor Strange with Guillermo’ then all of a sudden in IMDb I had Doctor Strange [listed].”

Del Toro then went on to say that he has talked to Kennedy and Knoll about Star Wars:

“Saying all that caveat, I will say there’s some characters that are great, and I have talked to Kathleen Kennedy and John Knoll about ideas.”

I just hope that one day these early talks eventually lead to Del Toro directing a Star Wars movie, because the movie he is interested in directing could easily be one of the most intriguing. Back in 2015, the director said he wanted to make a Jabba The Hutt gangster film. He explained:

"I would do the sort of Godfather saga that Jabba the Hutt had to go through to gain control. One, because it’s the character that looks the most like me, and I like him. I love the idea of a Hutt type of mafia, a very complex coup. I just love the character.”

It would be a shame if this never happened. A Godfather-inspired Star Wars film that focuses on Star Wars underworld would be amazing! As you know, George Lucas was at one point developing a TV series based on this concept, which would've been amazing. I'd love for Del Toro to take his vision of this type of story and run with it. There's so much that he could do with Jabba the Hutt and all of the seedy characters that were lurking around in that part of the galaxy.

I have no idea if this is something Lucasfilm is considering or if they even still have any interest in working with Del Toro. I hope they do! It'd be awesome if somewhere down the line we get an announcement that Del Toro is directing his movie about Jabba The Hutt's rise to power!

Would you like to see Del Toro direct this movie? Are there any other Star Wars films you'd like to see him take on?

First Trailer for the Eerie New Stephen King Series THE MIST - Fear. Human. Nature.

first-trailer-for-the-eerie-new-stephen-king-series-the-mist1

One of my favorite Stephen King stories is The Mist and a series adaptation of it was announced back in 2015. Well, today the first eerie trailer has rolled in and I like what I'm seeing so far. As you'll see, the series doesn't follow the exact story that King wrote, but I understand they had to change some things up for the series. After watching the trailer, it wasn't hard for me to embrace those changes. It just helps open the world up more and I think it has potential to be a great show that will offer up some intensity and scares. I'm totally looking forward to watching it!

THE MIST centers around a small town family that is torn apart by a brutal crime. As they deal with the fallout an eerie mist rolls in, suddenly cutting them off from the rest of the world and, in some cases, each other. Family, friends and adversaries become strange bedfellows, battling the mysterious mist and its threats, fighting to maintain morality and sanity as the rules of society break down.

In an interview with EW, series creator Christian Torpe talked about his version of the story Explaining:

“I wanted to be respectful to the source material, but my feeling was there was already a great adaptation out there by Frank Darabont. The novella is 200 pages and one location, and we needed to change that to make an ongoing series. But we wanted to remain faithful to the heart of the story.
“We establish different little pressure cookers under the influence of whoever the leader would be in those locations. Each of them come up with different theories or beliefs about what’s going on. Eventually, the story lines will dovetail and turn into conflicts.
“Unfortunately, I thought it was incredibly timely to do a show about what people do when they are blinded by fear. We look around at what’s going on in the world, and everyone is constantly looking for someone to blame, or someone to lead them to the promised land. They find people to hate, either because of their gender or race or faith. Those are elements we tap into — how fear drives things like misogyny and homophobia.”

The Mist stars Morgan Spector, Alyssa Sutherland, Gus Birney, Danica Curcic, Okezie Morro, Luke Cosgrove, Darren Pettie, Russell Posner, Dan Butler, Isiah Washington, Jr. and Frances Conroy. The series is set to premiere on Thursday, June 22nd on Spike. Watch the trailer and tell us what you think!

Insanely Action-Packed New Trailer for TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT With Lots of New Footage

"For my world to live, yours must die."

The final trailer has been released for Transformers: The Last Knight and it's the best one they've released yet. It's loaded with tons of new action-packed footage from the Michael Bay-directed film and it offers news details on the story. This includes some insight into what leads Optimus Prime to go rogue.

I recently had the chance to see a collection of scenes from the film most of which didn't impress. You can watch our reaction video for that footage we saw here. There are some scenes included in the film that are poorly written, but regardless of that, the movie is definitely going to provide some insanely entertaining action sequences. In the end, The Last Knight is just going to be a big popcorn flick for fans to enjoy.

When all seems lost, a few brave souls can save everything we’ve ever known. The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock). There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours.

Transformers: The Last Knight opens on June 23, 2017.

Mickey Mouse Will Crush You With His LEGO Mech Suit

Have you ever wondered what a cheerful character like Mickey Mouse would look like operating a giant mech shaped like himself? Well, our friends over at NerdApproved pointed out this ridiculous LEGO design that answers your very specific (and very weird) desire. The design hails from Julius von Brunk, who submitted it to the LEGO Ideas page...although it doesn't seem likely that it'll ever make its way to shelves for purchase, considering Disney would have to give it their stamp of approval. It's still cool, though.

Introducing the latest in Disney technology, an armed bipedal battle unit piloted by the beloved rodent Mickey Mouse! This menacing action pod is highly-articulated and poseable, as well as durable and sturdy with the usage of Technic ball and socket joints. The top canopy easily retracts to allow our little mouse minifigure to climb inside to maintain the controls. The unit’s hands contain hinges for allowing the fingers to grip, such as holding weapons and/or enemy minifigs.

THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS: TOKYO DRIFT Was Originally Pitched as a Vin Diesel Movie

Here's an interesting piece of trivia for all of you Fast & Furious fans out there. Did you know that the third film, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, was originally pitched to be a sequel led by Vin Diesel's Dom Toretto? Dom makes an important cameo at the end of the third film, but writer Chris Morgan told Uproxx that when he originally pitched the studio about writing it, he had a different plan in mind:

"Originally, I started as a fan. I went to see the original film at a late-night showing. I just loved that brotherhood between Dom and Brian. And then I got asked to do the third movie. There was an open writing call for the third film. I think originally I came in and pitched. Essentially it was Tokyo Drift, but it was with Vin, and his character kind of had to go out and learn drifting. And there was a murder he had to solve. And they said, ‘Nah, can’t do that. We have to do high school.’ And so the movie became what the movie was. I was really proud of it. And the audience, they came to see it. A lot of people liked it. It kind of did the worst of all the films."

I'm not crazy about the third movie (I realize it has a tremendously vocal fanbase), so I think I actually would have preferred to see the version Morgan originally pitched instead of what we ended up with. But hey — I guess it all worked out in the end.

The Fate of the Furious, the eighth movie in this unlikely franchise, hits theaters this Friday.

LUDACRIS Set To Host MTV Reboot Of FEAR FACTOR

In an attempt to move away from scripted programming and return to the reality programming that put them on the map, MTV is bringing back Fear Factor. The network has tapped multi-platinum rapper Ludacris to host the series, which I'm all about...although I wouldn't have minded seeing Joe Rogan return to the series as host.

I loved Fear Factor when I was younger, and if MTV is trying to get me to watch their channel again they're certainly on the right track! How do you feel about Fear Factor coming back? Do you think the show will be a hit? Thanks Variety for the heads up.

Trailer for Orson Scott Card's Intriguing New Sci-Fi Series EXTINCT

Ender's Game author Orson Scott Card has created a new sci-fi TV series called Extinct and we have the first trailer to share with you for it today. This actually looks like it could be solid series and It definitely has an intriguing story that grabbed my attention.

The 10-episode action-packed series takes place 400 years after the extinction of the human race and follows a small group of humans who are revived by an alien civilization. The aliens claim they want to restore the human species, but the reborn humans uncover new dangers, hidden agendas and powerful secrets that challenge that claim and threaten to annihilate the human race all over again.
Extinct carries the colony of revived humans through struggles with the aliens who extinguished humankind centuries before — while trying to understand and get along with the mysterious aliens who revived them. Nothing is as it seems to be, and if they aren't careful, courageous, and unified, they'll find themselves under the control of one group or the other.

That's a pretty cool concept! I just hope that they can execute it properly. The series was co-written by Aaron Johnston (Earth Unaware, Earth Afire, Earth Awakens, The Swarm) and it was directed by Ryan Little (Saints and Soldiers, Outlaw Trail). Chad Michael Collins (Sniper, Freakish) is set to star alongside Victoria Atkin (Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate), Jaclyn Hales (Unicorn City), Yorke Fryer (How to Get Away with Murder), Jack Depew (Mad Men, The Fosters) Matthew Bellows (Grimm, Fuller House) and Jake Stormoen (Mythica).

The series is set to debut on October 20th on ByuTV. Check out the trailer and let us know what you think!

Jude Law will be taking one the role of a young Albus Dumbledore in director David Yates' upcoming sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. We've known for awhile that young Dumbledore would be a part of the story and Law is the perfect actor to play the iconic wizard character!

The actor will be joining Eddie Redmayne as Newt, Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald, and more. In a statement regarding the cast of Law, Toby Emmerich, president and chief content officer of Warner Bros. Pictures, said:

“As fans ourselves, we are thrilled to have Jude Law joining the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ cast, playing a character so universally adored. Jude has been a member of the Warner Bros. family for years and we’re excited to embark on this new adventure with him.”

The upcoming films will offer us some insight into the relationship between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. It's going to be interesting and fun to see Dumbledore's story play out throughout the rest of this series.

Josh Brolin Cast as Cable in DEADPOOL 2!

After a long extensive search for the right actor to play Cable in Deadpool 2, Josh Brolin has been officially cast in the role! Josh Brolin's name was never brought up in any of the rumors and other reports, so this comes as a huge surprise! Now Brolin has two huge Marvel roles to play with! As you know, he also play Thanos in the MCU. I wonder if that's something they'll joke around about in the movie.

Brolin was up against a group of talented actors who were up for the role including Michael Shannon, who almost got the role, Stranger Things star David Harbour, Russell Crowe, Brad Pitt and more. Brolin is definitley the best choice they could've made!

According to THR, Brolin has signed on for four movies, which I assume includes X-Force and future Deadpool sequels. I can't wait to see what Ryan Reynolds, director David Leitch, and the rest of the creative team have in store for this character in the upcoming sequel, but there's no doubt that Brolin is going to kick ass in the role! He's going to be freakin' awesome and I couldn't be more excited that he was cast in the role!

What do you all think about Brolin playing Cable in Deadpool 2!?
