Netflix is Developing a Horror Series Adaptation of THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE

Netflix has announced that they are developing a untitled horror series which will be a modern-day adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s classic 1959 novel, The Haunting of Hill House. The series is being produced by Steven Spielberg and his Amblin TV and it's being created by Mike Flanagan, the filmmaker behind Ouija: Origin of Evil, Oculus, Hush and the upcoming film adaption of Gerald’s Game. He will write, direct, and executive produce the series.

The streaming service has ordered ten episodes of the series and as a fan of the horror genre, I'm excited to see what comes of it. The Haunting of Hill House has already been adapted twice before as films, the first was in 1963 and the second was the Liam Neeson version released in 1999. Both of them were titled The Haunting. For those of you who need a reminder of what the story entails:

The Haunting of Hill House has been hailed as a perfect work of unnerving terror. It is the story of four seekers who arrive at a notoriously unfriendly pile called Hill House: Dr. Montague, an occult scholar looking for solid evidence of a 'haunting'; Theodora, his lighthearted assistant; Eleanor, a friendless, fragile young woman well acquainted with poltergeists; and Luke, the future heir of Hill House. At first, their stay seems destined to be merely a spooky encounter with inexplicable phenomena. But Hill House is gathering its powers—and soon it will choose one of them to make its own.

With Spielberg and Flanagan working on this project and Netflix giving their filmmakers the freedom to realize their visions, this new series could be a creepy cool horror experience.

The people behind How It Should Have Ended and Screen Junkies have teamed up for a show called After Credits, which imagines fake post-credits scenes for popular movies. While we wait for a new season of The X-Files to move forward, hardcore fans can enjoy an audio dramatization from Audible called The X-Files: Cold Cases. What's so cool about this is that this is a full cast dramatization that includes David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their roles of FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully along with several other members of the original cast.

The X-Files: Cold Cases is based on the comic books by Joe Harris, which had creative direction from series creator Chris Carter. We've got a promo teaser for the audio series that you can check out below.

Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe and providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved – dubbed cold cases – by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the US government and forces not of this world.

The audio version of The X-Files: Cold Cases was produced by Dirk Maggs (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Alien: Out of the Shadows). As a longtime fan of The X-Files, I'll definitely be listening to this.

Aubible Originals releases The X-Files: Cold Cases on July 18th.

The animated spy series Archer has made the move to FXX and transitioned into a 1940s noir for its new season, Archer: Dreamland. I don't think the answering machine as we know it today had been invented by the 1940s, so that means we're not likely to see a continuation of Sterling Archer's elaborate voicemail hoaxes...at least, not this season. But take a look at this supercut of every time his ridiculous voicemails have tricked his friends and family over the years in the video below.

Marc Webb is Proud of His AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Movies: "They Weren't Disasters"

After bursting on the scene with 500 Days of Summer, director Marc Webb was handed the keys to the kingdom on Sony's Spider-Man franchise. The result? Two Amazing Spider-Man films that didn't quite live up to expectations, and a scuttled franchise that reboots this year with Spider-Man: Homecoming, a co-production between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios.

The director spoke with Collider and was asked about his biggest regret, and this was his response:

It’s hard for me to think about it, in terms of regrets. There are so many things that I’m proud of. There was an ambition with the second movie, in particular. The idea that it’s a superhero that can’t save everybody is something that I’m really proud of. I’m really proud of the ambition of that because it’s an important message, and I believe in that. I believe in what we were after. They’re really, really difficult movies to make. They’re complex in ways that people don’t fully understand. They weren’t disasters. But in terms of regrets, I don’t think of it in those terms. I felt really, really fortunate to have that opportunity. That’s a whole other long, in-depth conversation that I probably shouldn’t have publicly. I loved everybody involved. I really did. I didn’t have an adversarial relationship with the studio, at all. There were a lot of very smart people. These are just incredibly complicated movies to make. I am proud of them, in many ways, and I stand by them. I’m certainly not a victim, in that situation.

I think Webb managed to capture some pretty nice moments between stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone with his Spidey movies, but the scripts left a lot to be desired. It should always come down to the story first, and to me, it just didn't seem like Webb had good enough stories to work with on these movies.

The latest promo spot for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 put the focus on the legendary sibling rivalry of Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula (Karen Gillan). These two characters have a lot of things to work out with each other that would probably normally take years and years of therapy. Regardless of their feelings toward each other, we know that they reluctantly team up in Vol. 2 to help save the galaxy. Hopefully, while they are on this adventure together, they find a new found respect for each other.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

The movie stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord,  Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki, and Chris Sullivan.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released on May 5, 2017. Tickets go on sale today! Make sure to check out all of our news for the film here.

This New Trailer for Edgar Wright's BABY DRIVER is a Ton of Fun!

One of my most anticipated films of 2017 is Edgar Wright's Baby Driver. I'm a big fan of the filmmaker and this movie is going to be a blast! We've got a new trailer to share with you today that gives you a taste of how much of a wild ride this movie will be.

The film stars Ansel Elgort as a getaway driver who wants to leave his life of crime behind after falling for a girl who is being played by Lily James. What makes the character so interesting is the fact that he suffers from tinnitus and the “movie’s action is choreographed to the music he plays to drown out the ringing in his ears.”

I recently had the opportunity to see an entire scene from the film play out while I was at CinemaCon and it was one my favorite things that I saw at the event. You can listen to us excitedly talk about that scene in a video you can watch here. The movie also has a wicked talented cast that includes Jamie Foxx, Elsa Gonzalez, Lily James, Jon Bernthal and Kevin Spacey. Here's the synopsis:

A talented, young getaway driver (Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. When he meets the girl of his dreams (James), Baby sees a chance to ditch his criminal life and make a clean getaway. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss (Spacey), he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.

Baby Driver hits theaters on June 28th and I hope the title of the film doesn't drive people away from watching it. I've talked to some people who initially had no interest in seeing it because of the title.

Brutally Action-Packed New Trailer for Charlize Theron's ATOMIC BLONDE

Charlize Theron's upcoming action film Atomic Blonde looks like it's going to be a shit-ton of fun! If you're excited about this movie, we've got a new trailer for you to watch offering great new footage that features the actress brutally destroying people.

Theron went through hell for this role and got so deep into the action that she got bruised, bloodied, and battered. She even lost some teeth in the process! She put everything she had into this role and it looks like the pain she went through is all going to pay off!

Atomic Blonde is based on the Oni Press graphic novel by writer Antony Johnston and illustrator Sam Hart. The film was appropriately directed by John Wick co-director David Leitch and here's the synopsis:

Atomic Blonde offers a breakneck action-thriller that follows MI6’s most lethal assassin through a ticking time bomb of a city simmering with revolution and double-crossing hives of traitors.
The crown jewel of Her Majesty’s Secret Intelligence Service, Agent Lorraine Broughton (Theron) is equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery, willing to deploy any of her skills to stay alive on her impossible mission. Sent alone into Berlin to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through the deadliest game of spies.

The movie also stars John GoodmanTil Schweiger (Inglourious Basterds), Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan), Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond, The Mummy), and Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger).

Atomic Blonde hits the big screen July 28 and I can't wait to see it!

Manu Bennett Returning As DEATHSTROKE To The DC Television Shows

Deathstroke will be returning to the CW DC shows, but will it be on Arrow? Coming Soon initially revealed the news that Manu Bennett would be reprising his role as the Season 2 villain on Arrow, but that claim was directly refuted by Bennett...

So where could Deathstroke be headed? Part of me would love to see the villain on The Flash, but with the way this season of The Legends Of Tomorrow went I can see him fitting on that series much better. Where would you like to see Bennett play Deathstroke?

Luc Besson's VALERIAN is The Most Expensive French Movie Ever Made

By now, I'm sure you've seen the trailers for Luc Besson's dazzling new sci-fi epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. But I just learned that Besson's upcoming film is the most expensive French film in cinematic history.

The Playlist brings word from Cineuropa, who reports that The Fifth Element director's flashy, colorful new movie cost €197.47 million (about $210 million) to make. That crushes the country's previous record, which was only around $82 million.

Besson is very hit-or-miss as a director, but I'm hoping Valerian delivers on the promise of its original graphic novel and the wild, fun-looking trailers we've seen so far. We'll find out if the film can earn back that record-breaking budget when it debuts on July 21, 2017.

Here's The First Trailer For Amazon's I LOVE DICK with Kevin Bacon

This is going to be one of those trailers where you're going to watch it and still not know whether you want to watch it or not after it's done. I Love Dick is about a struggling couple (Kathryn Hahn and Griffin Dunne) who travel to meet a professor named Dick (Kevin Bacon). What begins as a wife trying to cheat on her husband with this bizarre professor quickly turns into some crazy tale that you'll get the gist of when you watch the trailer.

From Jill Soloway, the two-time Emmy winning director and creator of Transparent, comes I Love Dick, which tells the story of a struggling married couple (played by Kathryn Hahn and Griffin Dunne) who move to Marfa to study with an enigmatic professor, Dick (Kevin Bacon). As the couple become drawn to Dick, their lives are turned upside down with unintended, but exciting consequences.

Check it out below and watch it on Amazon Prime Video May 12th.

James Gunn Wants to Bring Marvel Villain Wilson Fisk to the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Franchise

Director James Gunn is doing great things with the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and fans can't wait to see Vol. 2. We aren't really sure what's going to happen with these characters and the franchise after Avengers: Infinity War, but one thing that the director would like to do is bring in an unlikely Marvel villain to play in that outer space universe. That villain is Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin, who made his MCU debut in Netflix's Daredevil series!

Gunn talked about wanting to bring Kingpin into the Guardians franchise during an interview with Fandango, saying:

"The one guy I would love to bring into outer space is the Kingpin from the Daredevil TV show, so I don't know if I'd want to bring an Avenger into outer space. But I wouldn't mind bringing Wilson Fisk up there to see what he would do in outer space."

That would be amazing! I'd love to see how Gunn would utilize Kingpin in a Guardians of the Galaxy movie! He's one of the most interesting villains in the MCU and I hope that Marvel intends on using him more. I seriously doubt we'll ever see him in a Guardians of the Galaxy film because the Marvel Netflix series' are being kept separate from the movies, but it's an idea I can totally get behind!

Regardless of the impossibility of this, I can't help but imagine how amazing it would be to see the Guardians go up against Wilson Fisk in space. If anyone could effectively make that work, it's Gunn. Would you like to see Fisk in a Guardians movie?

David Harbour Says To Expect Changes From Sheriff Hopper In STRANGER THINGS Season 2

Sheriff Hopper is undergoing some changes in Season 2 of Stranger Things according to actor David Harbour. A recent AMA (via Comicbook) has revealed the sheriff is on a bit of a bender following his heroics in Season 1. Looks like the sheriff will let defeating the Upside Down get into his head a little bit...

“Hop starts season 2 in a completely different place than season 1.  he saved will and has found a renewed interest in life.  so his arc for s2 in my mind becomes more about butting up against the places where his hero fantasy can’t take him.  the places where that hero complex may force him to make the wrong decisions. it's a satisfying, completely different journey in s2.  You’ll get to see exactly Hop’s taste in music this season, so I won’t spoil it for you.  there’s a great moment in ep2 where Hop and music are a big thing.  and you may get to see him … well, I won’t say more.  it was very very fun to film tho.”

That sounds promising...interesting? It's not like Hopper is the focus of the show, but it's definitely good to see we're going to see more of his character fleshed out in Season 2. Stranger Things will return this Halloween for Season 2 on Netflix!

Will Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam Be the Main Villain in MAN OF STEEL 2?

Dwayne Johnson has been teasing a showdown between Superman and Black Adam for about a year already. It started with the actor saying nothing would make him happier to see the two DC characters battle each other and that Superman's "got it comin'." Later on, he posted a photo of himself hanging out with actor Henry Cavill that came with the following note:

Today we drink like gentleman and come together as friends. We’re excited for what the future brings.. #DangerousGentleman #DCWorldsWillCollide #Superman

Now a rumor has surfaced says Black Adam will be introduced as the villain in Man of Steel 2. The rumor comes from a Reddit user, who says they have some inside information from the DC Entertainment creative team. This is an untested source, but there is evidence that there is some truth to the rumor.

MTV recently talked with Dwayne Johnson and they asked him about where the Black Adam and Shazam movies currently stand and he said:

“We’ve had great discussions with Geoff Johns over at DC. This is a really fun, cool time for DC right now because they’re really in the process of truly world building, and building out. We’re seeing that with Wonder Woman and Aquaman. We have a few surprises down the line. What we decided to do is create a scenario where Black Adam is having his standalone movie and Captain Marvel, Shazam, will have his stand alone movie. That way we’re building our world up and then we can come together at some point.”

We already know that Black Adam and Shazam will get their own solo movies. That's not a surprise, but there is a surprise coming and Johnson is extremely excited about it! He says:

“We have a surprise for Black Adam coming up. I can’t tell you what it is but…it’s gonna be fucking awesome."

Could this surprise be the announcement that Black Adam will officially appear in Man of Steel 2? That would certainly be a "fucking awesome" surprise that fans would flip over! It seems like that's what all this teasing is leading up to.

Director Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class, Kickass) is still in talks to direct Man of Steel 2 and I hope he takes it! I imagine the studio will release official details on the film when they announce that they have a director locked in to develop the film.

While we wait for this big surprise to be revealed, tell us what you think the possibility of Black Adam being the villain in Man of Steel 2.

The BLACK PANTHER Team Had Fun Messing With GET OUT Star Daniel Kaluuya on Set

If you've seen Jordan Peele's horror film Get Out (and you really should — it's fantastic) and you're on Instagram, you've probably seen the #getoutchallenge hashtag, in which people recreate one of the scenes from the film in which a character creepily runs directly at star Daniel Kaluuya before peeling away at the last possible second.

Well, Kaluuya is a cast member of Marvel's upcoming Black Panther film, and Pajiba pointed me to this excellent video in which the actor himself was trolled on the set of that movie with the cast and crew's version of the #getoutchallenge. First, co-star Lupita Nyong'o posted this video:

#GetOutChallenge: When one of you still hasn't seen the movie! @danaigurira #comicrelief #zerosenseofdirection #rebelwithoutacause #BlackPanther #bts

A post shared by Lupita Nyong'o (@lupitanyongo) on

And then there was this one, which involved Kaluuya himself:

The Ultimate #getoutchallenge is when #danielkaluuya is down to play! #blackpanther cast #bts shenanigans #ChrisMakesACameo #ChrisFinallyGetsOutAtAppropriateMoment #cantgetenoughofit. Celebrating @getoutmovie @mtv awards nominations!

A post shared by Lupita Nyong'o (@lupitanyongo) on

What are you waiting for? Go see Get Out if you haven't yet! And Black Panther hits theaters on February 16, 2018.
